  • Bright Eyes Announce EP, Share Video for New Song Featuring Hurray for the Riff Raff

Bright Eyes are back with a new EP that serves as a soft accompaniment to last year’s Five Dice, All Threes. Kids Table EP is out September 26 via Dead Oceans. The indie-rock band has also shared the new song “Dyslexic Palindrome” featuring Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Alynda Segarra, who joined Bright Eyes on their recent tour to duet “Lua” together. Check out that song and its accompanying music video below.

“Alynda Segarra is one of the most soulful people I have ever encountered,” said Conor Oberst. “Everything that passes through them is haunted by the weary ghost of American music past. I have had the good fortune of recording and performing with them on many occasions and I am always blown away by Alynda’s ability to channel what is both intangible and universal. Seemingly walking along in a second line of skeletons. Blowing on a valiant horn. I know it sounds crazy but, yet, there Alynda is. Always so very present but with one foot on the other side.”

Kids Table EP spans eight songs in total, including “Dyslexic Palindrome” and the July single “1st World Blues,” in which Bright Eyes go ska. Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott also opted to cover the 1980 Lucinda Williams’ track “Sharp Cutting Wings (Song to a Poet)” for the upcoming EP.

Bright Eyes are currently on tour in support of their recent album. After making their way along the west coast this fall, with support from Saintseneca and Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch, the band will fly to Asia for concerts in Tokyo, Osaka, and Singapore. Check out their full list of tour dates after the jump.

So this is not the bat that the Yankees were using to pound out 36 runs in 3 games. This is not *** torpedo bat. This is like *** traditional bat. Yeah, if that’s the bat they were using, we wouldn’t be talking about. Oh there you go. What is going on here with this? I, so basically the Yankees have apparently over for 2 years have been working on this, and they have figured out. That all the all the rules say *** bat needs to be is it can’t be bigger than *** certain length it can’t be fatter than *** certain, but otherwise, as long as it’s ***. Straight stick that the fattest part fits within these measurements and they’re hitting it out they they move the barrel basically down and they’re taking guys like Anthony Volpe where they collect so much data now, right? They know where Anthony Volpe typically hits right and if he’s not consistently hitting it on the barrel. Their solution was let’s not teach Anthony Volpe to hit different. Let’s just move the barrel. So they basically so simple bats that are customized to these hitters and to where they’re making contact. It’s, I mean, it’s very unusual and when they come out of the gate like this with *** 20 run game where, you know, like 9 homers in the game, it’s gonna get *** whole lot of attention, but by the rules this seems to be allowed. It’s just wild to see *** team do it and come out like this, right? And it’s the Yankees. Oh, it’s the Yankees, Chad. So, um, so there’s gonna be *** tension there anyway, but it’s, it’s fascinating. And I mean, who, you know, is this something that’s gonna catch on? We’re, I think everybody 2 my other teams my outlet included are all trying to chase this going where, where is this going, you know.

  • Travis Kelce and Parents Donna and Ed Attend The Kingdom Premiere

Donna Kelce and Ed Kelce stepped out in support of a new docuseries featuring their son Travis Kelce.

Attending the Sunday, August 24, Kansas City red carpet premiere of ESPN’s six-part The Kingdom, Donna, 72, and ex-husband Ed, 74, individually stopped and spoke with reporters about their adoration for Travis, 35.

Travis, whose early days with girlfriend Taylor Swift is explored in the series, was also in attendance, posing for photos on his own in a tailored charcoal suit and dark sunglasses. He paired the sleek ensemble with his famous wide grin before flashing a peace sign at photographers.

Donna, who split from Ed after 25 years of marriage after Travis and older brother Jason Kelce graduated from college, said in a red carpet interview shared via YouTube’s “Sports Videos on SI” account on Sunday evening that she was proud of her two boys.

Ed Kelce/Instagram; Donna Kelce/Instagram Ed Kelce and Donna Kelce may no longer be married — but they still have a great friendship. The twosome met in the late ‘70s and welcomed son Jason Kelce in 1987 followed by son Travis Kelce two years later. After 25 years of marriage, the former couple called it quits […]

“I know my children and I know the people that surround them and they’re just two very special individuals,” Donna was seen telling a group of reporters in the video. “They just have a knack of being able to be relatable individuals. It’s been so much fun over the years just being able to do and see and be introduced to people I never thought that I’d meet.”

Donna also replied to a reporter who asked if she’d listened “to any good podcasts lately,” a question that cheekily referred to Travis and Jason’s “New Heights” podcast episode that saw guest star Swift, 35, unveil details into her forthcoming 12th studio album.

“That was very enlightening … just a fun interaction between family … and I think when they [Travis and Jason] interview individuals they bring the best out of them and make them confident,” Donna said. “They [guest interviewees] feel safe. Individuals feel safe with them, that they’re not going to do something that they shouldn’t be doing or asking.”

For Ed’s part, he spoke to the same group of reporters separately, as captured via a YouTube clip posted by the same account on Sunday. In the video, Ed was seen telling the reporters that he is “just very happy for him [Travis].”

He also spoke directly about Travis’ relationship with Swift: “They are two people that truly deserve each other.”

Ed also commented on the family’s newfound spotlight, noting that he wasn’t “quite as much … red carpet life” as “our mom is,” but he was glad to “just share my joy with these boys.”

Elsewhere on the evening’s red carpet, Travis’ Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes posed for photos alongside wife Brittany Mahomes. The pair were captured laughing with one another and gazing adoringly into each other’s eyes as they enjoyed a rare date night. (Patrick, 29, and Brittany, also 29, share three children: daughter Sterling, 4, son Bronze, 2, and another daughter, Golden, 7 months.)

  • Some Guard units in Washington are now carrying firearms, Pentagon says

Some National Guard units patrolling the nation’s capital at the direction of President Donald Trump have started carrying firearms, an escalation of his military deployment that makes good on a directive issued late last week by his defense secretary.A Defense Department official who was not authorized to speak publicly said some units on certain missions would be armed — some with handguns and others with rifles. The spokesperson said that all units with firearms have been trained and are operating under strict rules for use of force.Video above: President Trump greets, thanks National Guard and federal agents during trip into D.C.An Associated Press photographer on Sunday saw members of the South Carolina National Guard outside Union Station with holstered handguns.A statement from the joint task force that has taken over policing in the nation’s capital said units began carrying their service weapons on Sunday and that the military’s rules say force should be used “only as a last resort and solely in response to an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm.” It said the force is committed to protecting “the safety and wellbeing” of Washington’s residents. The defense official who spoke to The Associated Press said only troops on certain missions would carry guns, and that would include those patrolling to establish a law enforcement presence throughout the capital. Those working in transportation or administration would likely remain unarmed. The development in Trump’s extraordinary effort to override the law enforcement authority of state and local governments comes as he is considering expanding the deployments to other Democratic-led cities, including Baltimore, Chicago and New York.Earlier Sunday, the president threatened to expand his military deployments to more Democratic-led cities, responding to an offer by Maryland’s governor to join him in a tour of Baltimore by saying he might instead “send in the ‘troops.’” He earlier said he was considering deploying troops to Chicago and New York.Thousands of National Guard and federal law enforcement officers are now patrolling the district’s streets, drawing sporadic protests from local residents.Trump made the threat to Baltimore in a spat with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a Democrat who has criticized Trump’s unprecedented flex of federal power aimed at combatting crime and homelessness in Washington. Moore last week invited Trump to visit his state to discuss public safety and walk the streets. In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said Moore asked “in a rather nasty and provocative tone,” and then raised the specter of repeating the National Guard deployment he made in Los Angeles over the objections of California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom. Video below: National Guard deployment increases in Washington, D.C.”Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other ‘Blue States’ are doing,” Trump wrote, as he cited a pejorative nickname he uses frequently for the California governor. “But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime.”Moore said he invited Trump to Maryland “because he seems to enjoy living in this blissful ignorance” about improving crime rates in Baltimore. After a spike during the pandemic that matched nationwide trends, Baltimore’s violent crime rate has fallen. The 200 homicides reported last year were down 24% from the prior year and 42% since 2021, according to city data. Between 2023 and 2024, overall violent crime was down nearly 8% and property crimes down 20%.”The president is spending all of his time talking about me,” Moore said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “I’m spending my time talking about the people I serve.”Trump is “spouting off a bunch of lies about public safety in Maryland,” Moore said in a fundraising email. In Washington, where Trump is surging National Guard troops and federal law enforcement officers, a patchwork of protests popped up throughout the city over the weekend, while some normally bustling corners were noticeably quiet. In some of the most populated areas, residents walked by small groups of national guardsmen, often talking among themselves. Videos of arrests and detainments circulated on social media.Trump has said Chicago and New York are most likely his next targets, eliciting strong pushback from Democratic leaders in both states. The Washington Post reported Saturday that the Pentagon has spent weeks preparing for an operation in Chicago that would include National Guard troops and potentially active-duty forces.Asked about the Post report, the White House pointed to Trump’s earlier comments discussing his desire to expand his use of military forces to target local crime.”I think Chicago will be our next,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, adding, “And then we’ll help with New York.”Trump has repeatedly described some of the nation’s largest cities — run by Democrats, with Black mayors and majority-minority populations — as dangerous and filthy. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is Black, as is Moore. The District of Columbia and New York also have Black mayors. The Rev. Al Sharpton, speaking during a religious event Sunday at Howard University in Washington, said the Guard’s presence in the nation’s capital was not about crime: “This is about profiling us.””This is laced with bigotry and racism,” he later elaborated to reporters. “Not one white mayor has been designated. And I think this is a civil rights issue, a race issue, and an issue of D.C. statehood.”Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, said there is no emergency warranting the deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago.”Donald Trump is attempting to manufacture a crisis, politicize Americans who serve in uniform, and continue abusing his power to distract from the pain he’s causing families,” Pritzker wrote on X. “We’ll continue to follow the law, stand up for the sovereignty of our state, and protect Illinoisans.”Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city doesn’t need “a military occupation” and would sue to block one. He said there has been no communication from the White House about a possible military deployment.”We’re not going to surrender our humanity to this tyrant,” Johnson said Sunday on MSNBC. “I can tell you this, the city of Chicago has a long history of standing up against tyranny, resisting those who wish to undermine the interests of working people.” Cooper reported from Phoenix.

Trump is “spouting off a bunch of lies about public safety in Maryland,” Moore said in a fundraising email.

Videos of arrests and detainments circulated on social media.

Trump has said Chicago and New York are most likely his next targets, eliciting strong pushback from Democratic leaders in both states. The Washington Post reported Saturday that the Pentagon has spent weeks preparing for an operation in Chicago that would include National Guard troops and potentially active-duty forces.

Asked about the Post report, the White House pointed to Trump’s earlier comments discussing his desire to expand his use of military forces to target local crime.

“I think Chicago will be our next,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, adding, “And then we’ll help with New York.”

Trump has repeatedly described some of the nation’s largest cities — run by Democrats, with Black mayors and majority-minority populations — as dangerous and filthy. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is Black, as is Moore. The District of Columbia and New York also have Black mayors.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, speaking during a religious event Sunday at Howard University in Washington, said the Guard’s presence in the nation’s capital was not about crime: “This is about profiling us.”

“This is laced with bigotry and racism,” he later elaborated to reporters. “Not one white mayor has been designated. And I think this is a civil rights issue, a race issue, and an issue of D.C. statehood.”

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, said there is no emergency warranting the deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago.

“Donald Trump is attempting to manufacture a crisis, politicize Americans who serve in uniform, and continue abusing his power to distract from the pain he’s causing families,” Pritzker wrote on X. “We’ll continue to follow the law, stand up for the sovereignty of our state, and protect Illinoisans.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city doesn’t need “a military occupation” and would sue to block one. He said there has been no communication from the White House about a possible military deployment.

“We’re not going to surrender our humanity to this tyrant,” Johnson said Sunday on MSNBC. “I can tell you this, the city of Chicago has a long history of standing up against tyranny, resisting those who wish to undermine the interests of working people.”

    Cooper reported from Phoenix.

  • Ciara Slams Spectators Who Call ‘Corny’ Husband Russell Wilson A ‘Simp’: Have You Ever Been Loved Right?’

Ciara isn’t concerned with anyone calling her man “corny.”

    Source: Amy Sussman / Getty

The singer stopped by The Breakfast Club for an interview on Friday, Aug 22, where she discussed the opinions of the outside world on her relationship.

During their conversation, Charlamagne Tha God asked Ciara what she thinks of the people who call her husband “corny,” to which she quickly said, “I don’t even have to reply to that.”

“Why would I even respond to that, you know what I’m saying? I know what I know, and that’s all that matters,” she continued.

The mother of four went on to praise her husband, calling the New York Giants quarterback, “the most amazing human being you can know.”

“The smartest, most intelligent Black man that I have ever known, you know,” she gushed “What you see with him is really who he is. So, it’s beautiful, it’s different.”

Still wanting to get a reaction out of Ciara, Charlamagne went on to note the men on The Breakfast Club have had conversations about why Wilson often gets called “a simp.”

In response to this, the “Body Party” singer had a similar response, insisting the opinions of people on the outside have no place in her relationship.

“Well, I think it depends on…well, who’s the man saying it?” Ciara said. “I’m not gonna go down a specific lane, I’m just saying, who’s the man saying it?”

She continued: “It’s like someone’s saying the person doesn’t love someone, but have you ever loved someone right? Have you ever been loved right? So, sometimes, people, to me, speak out of pocket because they just don’t know.

In response to all of the negative attention her relationship gets, Ciara would rather say “God bless them” than get mad.

“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but we don’t have to live, I don’t have to live my life to prove anything to anybody,” she explained. “I think sometimes, too, people just have a perspective because of the way they see life.”

The singer concluded, “And that might just be their way, but, you know, to me, too bad for them if they want to live life a certain way and love people a certain way. Too bad for them.”

  • SOPHIE and Liz Collaboration “Sunscreen” Finally Released

In 2018, SOPHIE and Liz reunited to make a follow-up to their 2015 collaboration “When I Rule the World” at SOPHIE’s Nichols Canyon home studio. That song, “Sunscreen,” did not immediately see the light of day, though it leaked on streaming platforms and occasionally popped up in DJ sets. Now, Liz is back, and she is releasing the finished song to mark her return. Below, watch the song’s video, shot on the Greek island of Mykonos. James Orlando directed it, and co-designer Renata Raksha drew from an idea conceptualized with SOPHIE.

Liz wrote on social media, “After all the years of rips, leaks, lore, and speculation, SUNSCREEN is finally here. SOPHIE always wanted me to put this song out, and I’m so grateful to Benny and Emily Long for being the loving and classy individuals they are, and for trusting me with the vision for this release.”

She added, “And to SOPHIE… your brilliance, your spirit, your friendship—I carry all of it with me. Thank you for believing in me. You continue to shape me and so many others; your impact is eternal. SOPHIE FOREVER.”

  • Tiffany Haddish Finally Addresses Rumor She Welcomed A Child With Jason Lee: ‘The Whole World Has Lost Their Mind Over This Beautiful Baby’

Tiffany Haddish is finally setting the record straight on her rumored baby, whom fans were convinced she welcomed with Hollywood Unlocked‘s Jason Lee.

    Source: Chelsea Guglielmino / Getty

The actress and comedian continued her weeklong guest-hosting gig on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, Aug. 19, and during her monologue, she finally addressed claims that she had welcomed a baby with her good friend Jason Lee.

This comes a few weeks after the star left fans wondering if she had secretly welcomed a child after she posted a snap with Lee while holding a baby. Though the pair were obviously trying to stir up some drama with the post, captioning their joint baby pic with, “Cats out the bag,” Haddish acted like she didn’t understand all of the confusion around her upload.

“There is a personal matter I feel must be addressed,” she began during her monologue. “Two weeks ago, I put something on the Instagram that made everyone go a little crazy. It was a picture of me and my friend Jason Lee posing with the baby and the caption, ‘Cats out the bag.’ ”

She continued, “For some reason, people saw this and thought I had a baby. “Like, there were articles about this everywhere. Even my own relatives were asking if I had a secret baby, which is kind of insulting because they are all living in my house and blocking me from getting any d**k.”

Haddish went on to ask Lee, who was in the audience, what he thought about the rumors. He also played coy, once again acting like he didn’t know why the post was met with so much confusion.

“The whole world has lost their mind over this beautiful baby,” he said, with Haddish adding, “We just took a picture with a baby and then that went crazy so now we got a godbaby.”

The comedian continued, “Jason, the offer still is on the table if you want to make a real baby together,” she teased, adding, “You know I’m traditional.”

Lee responded, “And I’m still gay.”

That’s when Haddish addressed the claims head-on, saying: “So just to be clear, I did not have a baby, but I am open to it…Wide open to it.”

“I even have a list of potential baby daddies,” the actress continued, naming stars like Tom Cruise, Jason Momoa and Brad Pitt. She also included New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, broadcaster Melvin Robert, Jimmy Kimmel Live! producer Ken Crosby, actor Pedro Pascal and the character Marcus Winfield, played by Toby Sandeman, on the Netflix series Running Point.

“Now, if you or someone you know wants to put a baby in me, please reach out on social media using the hashtag #PastramiMommy,” Tiffany concluded.

  • Woman thinks getting puppy will help her wake up early—she has other plans

A woman who got a dog thinking that it would help her to get up earlier and be more productive was in for a shock when she began to learn her new puppy’s personality.

Lynde, 35, an assistant at Gilson Doodles breeders, lives in Idaho and is the proud owner of teacup goldendoodle, Lucy, whom she described as having “mastered the art of napping.” And while this is adorable, Lynde told Newsweek, it means “she’s not the best ‘accountability partner‘ when it comes to waking up early.”

There are proven benefits to owning a dog, including easing isolation thanks to their companionship, easing stress, and helping you be more active, according to Harvard Health.

Dog owners are less prone to loneliness, anxiety and depression, and also have lower blood pressure, healthier cholesterol levels and a lower risk of heart disease, ongoing research suggests.

But while many canines might be up at the crack of dawn to demand breakfast and a morning walk, this didn’t exactly happen with Lucy, as Lynde, who didn’t give her surname, revealed in a viral video.

Posted to Instagram account @gilsondoodles on 30 May, Lynde wrote: “Getting a dog will help me wake up earlier and be more productive.”

However, a video montage shows an average day in Lucy’s life: at 8 a.m., taking a nap; at 9 a.m., relaxing on the sofa; at 10 a.m., stretching out on her owner’s bed; and snoozing in the sun at 11 a.m. And after a long day of napping, at noon and 1 p.m., Lucy rewards herself with a well-deserved nap.

“My accountability partner,” Lynde wrote in the caption, asking followers: “Is your dog a lazy loaf?”

The clip had a big reaction, racking up more than 12,000 likes, as one described Lucy as the “pawfect dog for me.”

“I could sit and watch my dog all day sleeping it’s just the best thing,” another said, while a third posted: “I wish my Leo would let me sleep in!”

Lynde told Newsweek that Lucy has plenty of other hobbies apart from napping, including “walkies,” and “hiding all of our socks under the couch with her other collections.”

Lynde said: “Going hiking, chasing birds but never actually wanting to catch them, and getting spoiled with a pup cup from Starbucks on special occasions” are some of Lucy’s other favorite things to do.

And, of course, she “loves ending the night snuggling in bed and watching Netflix.”

  • Kelly Clarkson Supported by ‘The Voice’ Family Amid Ex-Husband’s Death

The Voice is in the midst of filming their 28th season, but behind the scenes the cast and crew are mourning the death of producer and talent manager Brandon Blackstock.

“It’s been tough,” Carson Daly — who hosts the reality competition series — told Us Weekly exclusively at the opening night of Broadway’s Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride in New York City on Monday, August 18. “We all knew Brandon well, and we are a family.”

Us confirmed on August 7 that Blackstock died at the age of 48 after battling malignant melanoma for three years. He was previously married to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, and they shared two children, River Rose, 11 and Remington, 9.

Blackstock was also the stepson of Reba McEntire, who was married to his father, music manager Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.

Reba McEntire and Brandon Blackstock’s dad, Narvel Blackstock, split a decade ago, but the country superstar was still there for the family in the months leading up to Brandon’s death. “Reba has spent more time with the Blackstock crew in the past year than in years prior,” an insider exclusively tells Us Weekly, adding that […]

McEntire, 70, is currently a coach on season 28 of The Voice, alongside Michael Bublé, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg.

“I was working with [Reba] last week, everything was fresh, so we’ve just been sending our prayers and support to them,” Daly told Us. “It’s a terrible situation.”

Daly’s wife, Siri Pinter, added: “The Voice has always been a huge family-first atmosphere. Our kids were even raised there.”

Daly and Pinter, 44, share four children: Jackson, 16, Etta, 12, London, 10, and Goldie, 5.

Blackstock is survived by his parents, his siblings, his four children and his grandchildren. Blackstock shared Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18, with first wife Melissa Ashworth, in addition to his two children with Clarkson, 43.
