  • Khloé Kardashian Recalls ‘Slapping’ Tristan Thompson Over THIS Romantic Gesture: ‘It Was Mortifying’

    [ad_1]

    • Khloé was uncomfortable with Tristan’s romantic gesture, despite Giveon’s professional performance.
    • Khloé and Tristan have maintained a co-parenting relationship despite their personal differences.
    • Despite past hurt, Khloé recognizes Tristan’s role as the father of her children.

Khloé Kardashian is not one to put her feelings aside for a grand romantic gesture.

The reality star recalled opened up about a time when her ex-boyfriend surprised her with a serenade by Giveon during a recent episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. While the Good American founder enjoyed the R&B singer’s performance, she wasn’t happy with Tristan, who she had been dating on and off at the time following his infidelity.

“There was one time I was serenaded, and it was I think just a random day because I wasn’t expecting it,” Khloe said on the Valentine’s Day-themed episode of her podcast, which was released on Feb. 11. “This was years ago. Tatum wasn’t born. Yeah, it was just True.”

The Kardashians star shares daughter True, 7, and son Tatum, 3, with Tristan.

After being instructed by her then-boyfriend to “come outside,” Kardashian recalled just how uncomfortable she felt while Giveon sang to her.

“Giveon wasn’t who he was now. And he is just singing,” she began. “I remember I hated Tristan and I was like, ‘Why are you doing this?’ And Giveon is pouring his heart out. And Tristan’s trying to sit next to me and I’m like, slapping him, and poor Giveon is still singing. It was mortifying.”

Khloé felt so awkward that she had to call in backup, getting on their daughter in an effort to help relieve some tension.

“I was like, ‘God, this guy is such a great singer. I love this guy.’ And I remember going inside to get True because I was like, ‘I just need like a third person to get [away from] Tristan,’” she explained. “I was so annoyed with Tristan.”

Despite her thoughts about the gesture at the time, Khloé now looks at the surprise with a good attitude, explaining, “It was so funny. Until this day, when I see Giveon he’ll be like, ‘Remember? If I could sing live for you two while you guys were fighting, [anything’s possible].’”

“Like, Giveon was so professional,” she continued. “He was so great. He didn’t break his song at all. He’s amazing, I love him. But how awkward for him? Poor guy, I love you, Giveon.”

Tristan made several attempts to repair his relationship with Khloé, but to no avail. The pair ultimately broke up for good in late 2021. Their final split came shortly after the NBA player welcomed son Theo, now 4, with Maralee Nichols–just as he and Khloé were preparing for Tatum’s arrival.

Despite being so hurt by her ex’s past actions, Khloé has maintained a good co-parenting relationship with Tristan. The former couple even live close to each other so that Tristan—who is also dad to son Prince Oliver, 9, with ex-girlfriend Jordan Craig—can be fully present for their children

“What I find so funny is that people are always like, ‘How do you let Tristan back in?’” Khloe said during an episode of her podcast back in November. “And I’m like, ‘Well, Tristan is not back in.’ He’s just the father of my kids, so he’s going to be around his kids and I’m really grateful that he is.”

  • Presidents’ Day sales 2026: The best early tech deals to shop this week from Apple, Sony, Samsung and others

    [ad_1]

You can find a lot of good deals for Presidents’ Day, but to say it’s a tech-deal boon would be an overstatement. The best Presidents’ Day deals are usually on mattresses, appliances and furniture, but you can find some decent tech sales thrown in as well. This year, Presidents’ Day comes right after Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl 2026, which means there are even more chances to save as sales and discounts overlap. If you’re looking for a new streaming device, a fresh iPad or an upgraded vacuum so you can enter the spring-cleaning season properly, we have you covered. These are the best President Day sales on tech we could find this year.

    Presidents’ Day deals under $50

Disney+ and Hulu bundle (one month) for $10 ($3 off): You can get one month of Disney+ and Hulu access for only $10 right now. That represents a small savings over the standard $13-per-month price for the bundle, but a 58-percent discount when you compare it to the price of paying for both services separately. It’s a good way to test out the bundle without paying too much before you decide if you want to subscribe for the long haul.

Anker Nano 45W USB-C charger for $30 ($10 off): Anker’s latest 45W charger has a small smart display on it that can show you real-time charging stats. It’s compact design is great for travel, as are its foldable prongs.

Blink Mini 2K+ — 2 cameras for $45 (50 percent off): Blink’s latest plug-in security cameras support 2K video and improved audio quality. Like previous versions, these cameras have two-way talk, motion alerts and support for Alexa voice commands.

Anker Nano 5K ultra-slim magnetic power bank for $46 (16 percent off): This Qi2 power bank measures less than a half inch thick and snaps onto the backs of the latest iPhones for wireless charging. Its 5K capacity will be enough to top up your phone when it’s close to empty, preventing you from searching for a charger or outlet.

Presidents’ Day deals on Apple devices

Apple iPhone Air MagSafe battery pack for $79 (20 percent off): This magnetic power bank will add up to 65 percent additional battery charge to the iPhone Air, but note that it only works with Apple’s new, ultra-slim smartphone. We’ve tested plenty of others that also work with other iPhone and smartphone models.

Apple Magic Mouse for $68 (14 percent off): Apple’s sleek wireless mouse has a multi-touch surface that supports gesture control, and its battery should last about a month in between charges. And yes, it has a USB-C port.

Apple Watch Series 11 for $299 ($100 off): The latest flagship Apple Watch has excellent performance, a boosted battery life and a lightweight design that you can comfortably wear all day long — and even into the night to track sleep.

iPad mini (A17 Pro ) for $399 ($100 off): The updated iPad mini runs on the A17 Pro chip for improved performance, plus it has an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, a 12MP ultra wide camera with Center Stage, USB-C charging and compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro.

Beats Studio Pro for $170 (51 percent off): Beats updated these cans to have improved sound quality, and you can really hear the difference from models that came before it. These headphones also have solid Transparency mode, good voice performance and USB-C audio.

Beats Solo 4 headphones for $130 (35 percent off): These on-ear headphones support spatial audio and dynamic head tracking, and they have up to 50 hours of battery life. The “fast fuel” feature allows them to get up to five hours of playback time with just a quick 10-minute power-up.

Beats Studio Buds+ for $100 (41 percent off): These tiny buds have both active noise cancellation and transparency mode, and they’ll work just as well with either Apple or Android devices.

  • Garlicky Lobster Fettuccine Alfredo – Simply Scratch

    [ad_1]

This Garlicky Lobster Fettuccine Alfredo is delicious and so simple to prepare. Lumps of steamed lobster tail is tossed with tender fettuccine noodles in a garlic infused, white wine and parmesan cream sauce. Serves 6 (or more) depending.

You know it’s true love when you both can enjoy a garlicky dish on Valentine’s Day.

And this garlicky lobster fettuccine alfredo is the perfect romantic dish for such an occasion. Normally Pat and I don’t really celebrate Valentines Day – we’ve been married nearly 25 years and together for even longer than that, and both agree we do not need gifts. Instead, we focus on food. Obviously.

Since Pat isn’t a fan of lobster (although he wishes he was) I decide to treat myself to an early Valentine’s Day meal that includes seafood, carbs and cheese. It was absolutely dreamy. Garlicky but not too garlicky. Creamy, cheesy and with the most delectable lumps of tender lobster.

Safe to say I’ll be dreaming of this dish in the weeks to come.

Fettuccine Alfredo isn’t difficult by any means. However it does move quickly so it’s very important to have everything prepped and pasta water near boiling, lobster cooked and diced before starting on the sauce.

To Make This Garlicky Lobster Fettuccine Alfredo You Will Need:

    • unsalted butterLends fat for sautéing and adds flavor to the sauce.
    • shallotOr substitute with finely chopped yellow onion.
    • garlicAdds distinct punchy flavor.
    • lobster tailsThaw beforehand if completely frozen.
    • dry white wineLike sauvignon blanc or (un-oaked) chardonnay, pinot grigio or muscadet (to name a few).
    • fine sea saltUsed for seasoning pasta water.
    • fettuccine noodles (dried) – Or use linguine.
    • heavy creamLends rich creaminess and is the base to the sauce.
    • parmesan cheeseFreshly grated will lend nutty flavor, richness and some saltiness.
    • kosher saltEnhances the flavors in the sauce.
    • freshly ground black pepperLends distinct bite and flavor.
    • parsley (fresh) –Adds a pop of color and herbaceous freshness.
    • lemon juiceLends subtle citrus flavor and helps brighten the sauce.

butter, shallot and garlic in pan.butter, shallot and garlic in pan.

    Prepare the Lobster and Pasta:

First, bring a large pot of salted water to boil. It’s a good idea to have this already going, before starting the sauce, as this recipe moves quickly and you will need to drop in the pasta halfway through steaming the lobster.

Heat a large 12-inch deep sided pan on medium to medium-low, satuéeing the shallot and garlic in 2 tablespoons of butter until tender.

add lobsters to sauteed garlic and shallot.add lobsters to sauteed garlic and shallot.

Once shallots are tender, place the lobster tails (roughly 18 ounces total) into the pan.

pour in dry white wine, cover and steampour in dry white wine, cover and steam

Pour in 1/3 cup dry white wine. I used chardonnay but Sauvignon Blanc would work just as well. Make sure to use a wine you enjoy to drink.

Immediately cover and steam the lobster for 6 to 8 minutes.

Fully cooked, the shell should be a bright reddish orange and the lobster meat opaque.

Remove the pan off of the heat and transfer the cooked lobster tails to a cutting board to cool slightly.

Use a clean kitchen towel to protect your hands and to hold the tails while you use sharp kitchen shears to cut the shell down the middle on both the top and bottom. I stop right before the end of the tail and pull the meat out. Dice the cooked lobster into bite-size pieces.

NOTE: Halfway through the lobster steaming, I drop the pasta into the boiling water. If you’re not experienced with removing lobster meat from the shell, drop in the pasta after the lobster is done steaming to give yourself time.

    Make The Alfredo Sauce:

Return the pan to the heat and add in the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter.

    Build The Pasta:

First, reserve some of the pasta water before draining the fettuccine.

Immediately add the hot cooked fettuccine noodles to the sauce along with the chopped lobster meat, 2 tablespoons minced parsley and the juice of 1 small lemon, or about 1 to 2 tablespoons (to your preference).

  • Mount Airy is getting a 21-plus circus prom this Valentine’s Day

    [ad_1]

Prom is getting a second act in Mount Airy. This time, there are trapezes and a cash bar.

The Philadelphia School of Circus Arts (PSCA) will host its first Adult Circus Prom on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at its Circus Campus on Greene Street. The 21-and-over event transforms the former church space into a dance floor beneath aerial silks and trapezes, with circus artists performing short acts throughout the night.

A live DJ will spin hits from the 1970s through today, while guests pose for printed keepsake photos and make their own origami corsages and boutonnieres. During one act, a performer suspended above the crowd will pour champagne into raised glasses, and a cash bar by Tired Hands Brewing Company will serve beer and soda throughout the night.

The event is meant to recreate the fun of prom without the parts many people would rather forget. There are no cliques, no curfews and no judgment. It’s designed to be welcoming to anyone who skipped prom, felt out of place at theirs or simply wants another chance to dress up and dance. The school, which emphasizes accessibility in its programming, describes the night as an inclusive event where all are welcome.

While the prom takes place upstairs, a supervised childcare program for kids 5 and older will run in the lower gymnasium. Children can take part in circus games, activities and a movie while parents stay to dance or head out to dinner nearby before returning to the party.

Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple. Childcare is $30 per child, with a sibling discount available. Tickets are available through the school’s website.

  • Pink Sauce Pasta Recipe – Simply Scratch

    [ad_1]

Pink Pasta Sauce is a silky and robust tomato cream sauce (which gives this dish its richness and pink-ish tone) that is infused with red wine, crushed San Marzano tomatoes, red pepper flakes, lots of fresh garlic and studded with crispy diced pancetta. Yields 4 to 6 servings depending.

    Pink Pasta Sauce Recipe

I can’t think of a better pasta for Valentine’s day.

What is pink sauce? The short answer is that it’s a tomato and cream sauce. The long answer is that it’s a silky, robust sauce that’s studded with crispy pancetta and infused with red pepper flakes, red wine, crushed san marzano tomatoes, garlic and heavy cream. The method of preparation is similar to pasta alla vodka but the ingredients are obviously different. Once pancetta is crispy, shallot and garlic sauté in butter and reserved pancetta fat, tomato paste is then added and caramelized before pouring in a little full-bodied red wine (this also gives the pasta sauce more of a pink-ish tone) and crushed san marzano tomatoes. Heavy cream is added last giving this sauce its creamy, luxurious consistency and lightens the color quite a bit.

I happened to snag a box of heart shaped rigatoni (Barilla – not sponsored) at the grocery store last week and knew these two would be a match made in heaven.

What Type of Pasta Works Best In This Recipe?

A short tubular past works best. I found these heart shaped pasta (perfect for Valentine’s Day) at the grocery store. Mezze rigatoni would be the best choice in my opinion, however; or penne rigate, shelbow or rigatoni will also work.

    • To make the garlic steak butter, combine butter, garlic, salt, and pepper. Transfer the mixture to parchment paper; shape into a log. Roll in parchment to 1 ½ inches in diameter, twisting the ends to close. Refrigerate until ready to use, up to 1 week.

1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter, 3 Cloves Garlic, 1/4 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper, 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt

    • Preheat oven to broil. Place an oven-proof skillet, we prefer to use our Lodge Cast Iron Skillet, in the oven.
    • Using paper towels, pat both sides of the steak dry. This is essential to get a nice caramelization on the steak. Drizzle with olive oil; season with salt and pepper evenly to taste.

3 Rib-Eye Steaks, 4 Tablespoons Olive Oil, Kosher Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper

    • Remove the skillet from the oven and heat over medium-high heat on the stovetop.

    • Once the pan is hot, place the steak in the middle of the skillet and cook until a dark crust has formed, about 1 minute. Using tongs, flip, and cook for an additional 60 seconds.

    • Remove the skillet from the stove.

    • Place your skillet into the oven and cook until desired doneness is reached, about 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, flipping once. Let rest for 3-5 minutes, tented, not wrapped with foil.

    • Serve immediately with a slice of garlic butter.

Steaks can be tricky to buy. The ribeye is one of the most flavorful cuts of steak, however a filet, New York or T-bone would work as well.
To reheat, place leftover steaks on a wire rack set in a rimmed baking sheet and warm them on the middle rack of a 250-degree oven for about 30 minutes.

  • Yes, You Can Cook Filet Mignon at Home

    [ad_1]

This post may contain references to products from one or more of our advertisers. Oh Sweet Basil may receive compensation when you click on links to such products.

Cooking filet mignon can feel a little intimidating because no one wants to mess up an expensive steak. But here’s the truth: once you know how to cook filet mignon the right way, it’s actually one of the easiest, most forgiving cuts of beef you can make at home.

No grill required, no fancy chef skills needed, just a simple method that works every single time. Tender, juicy, restaurant-quality filet mignon made right in your own kitchen.

In college there were only a couple of restaurants and quickly Texas Roadhouse became my favorite. A Dallas filet, loaded baked potato, no sour cream and house salad with ranch. It was my go-to and I’ve never forgotten that Dallas filet!

Over the years, I have become such a home body though. Is that normal? Once you become “middle-aged”, hitting the town starts to lose it’s appeal? Is that thing? Well, it’s a thing for me, and going out for Valentine’s Day along with every other human just sounds blah! So I’m cooking a fancy (but so easy) dinner at home again this year. Filet mignon it is! All the fancy restaurants can eat their heart out!

What You Need to Cook Filet Mignon at Home

You only need a few simple ingredients to add flavor to the filets, a good cast iron skillet and a pair of tongs. It really is that easy! Oh, a meat thermometer is very helpful too if you have one!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    • Filet Mignon: A tender, buttery cut of beef that cooks quickly and stays incredibly juicy.
      • PRO TIP: Look for evenly sized steaks so they cook at the same rate.
    • Kosher Salt: Enhances the natural flavor of the steak and helps create a beautiful crust.
    • Ground Black Pepper: Adds just enough warmth and bite to balance the richness of the filet without overpowering it.
    • Oil: Used to get a hot, even sear. Choose a neutral oil with a higher smoke point so the steak browns beautifully without burning.
    • Unsalted Butter: Melted into the pan at the end for basting, adding richness and that classic steakhouse flavor.
    • Garlic: Cloves infuse the butter with savory flavor as the steak finishes cooking.
    • Fresh Rosemary: Adds a subtle, woodsy flavor that makes the steak extra delicious.
    • Fresh Thyme: Brings a soft, earthy note that pairs perfectly with beef and butter for a restaurant-quality finish.
a cast iron skillet with two seared filet mignons and a large spoon in the skillet

How to Make Juicy Filet Mignon

    1. Prep: Pull the steaks from the fridge to come to room temperature. Season each steak heavily with salt and pepper. Preheat the oven to 475°F.
    2. Sear: Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat for 3-5 minutes, then carefully drizzle with oil. Using tongs, gently place the steaks salted side down and sear for 2-3 minutes.
    3. Flip: Season the other side then flip the steak using the tongs and sear for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat.
    4. Finish in the Oven: Add the butter, garlic and herbs to the skillet and place the skillet into the oven. Cook for 4-7 minutes.
      • NOTE: Use a meat thermometer in the thickest portion of the filet and pull from the oven when the internal temperature is 5 degrees below your desired doneness (see section below).
    5. Rest: Remove from the oven and tent with foil for 2-5 minutes. This step is crucial for a juicy filet mignon. Don’t skip it!
    6. Baste: Baste with butter and serve.
a perfectly seared filet mignon in a cast iron skillet with a spoon next to it full of melted butter and herbs

How to Tell when Filet Mignon is Done

Everyone has their preferred level of doneness when it comes to steaks, so it’s completely up to you. Here are the internal temperatures for filet mignon:

    • Rare: 125°F (red with red juices)
    • Medium Rare: 130°F (deep pink with reddish juices)
    • Medium: 140°F (light pink with clearer juices)
    • Medium well: 150°F (gentle pink center with clear juices)
    • Well done: 160°F (fully cooked through, no longer pink at all, all grey meat)

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

One of the biggest mistakes when cooking filet mignon is starting with a cold steak. It needs to be pulled out of the fridge early and brought to room temperature. Cooking a cold steak leads to uneven cooking.

Filet mignon needs to be both pan seared first and then finished in the oven. A pan seared filet mignon has a delicious crust on the outside, but that isn’t enough to cook it all the way through. Finishing in the oven brings the steaks to a safe internal temperature. This is the best way to cook filet mignon.

Once a steak is done, it’s so tempting to jump in and devour it, but the resting period is crucial. The juices redistribute while it rests making it even more tender and melt-in-your-mouth.

the cross-section of a filet mignon with a pink and juicy center

What to Serve with Filet Mignon

For me, the perfect meal is filet mignon with some vegetables on the side, a starch and a carb…bread, yes, always bread! Here are a few of my favorites:

Vegetables: Roasted Broccoli, Grilled Asparagus, or Strawberry Spinach Salad

Starch: Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Herb Potatoes, or Baked Potatoes

Bread: Herbed Focaccia, Crusty Artisan Loaf, or Potato Rolls

    Storing and Reheating

Filet mignon is best eaten fresh, but if you have leftovers, they should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for 4-5 days. I actually prefer to slice leftovers so they are easier to reheat.

When leftovers are cut into slices, then I just give each slice a quicky little sear in a skillet on the stove before serving. If the steak is still whole, I prefer to reheat it in the oven at 250 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. When I’m feeling really ambitious, I’ll reverse sear each side for about a minute to get that yummy crust back.

  • Jam Heart Butter Cookies – Simply Scratch

    [ad_1]

Jam Heart Butter Cookies are an adorable and delicious sweet treat! Tender and crisp butter cookies with a heart pressed into the middle filled with either raspberry (or strawberry) jam. The perfect Valentine’s Day cookie! This recipe yields 24 cookies.

    How Cute Are These Cookies?

These simple cookies start with a one-bowl butter cookie dough. With ingredients like butter, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla and almond extract and flour – it’s likely you have all of this on hand already! This dough comes together rather quickly and can be rolled out and baked without needing to chill in the fridge first – which I love. To make the hearts I use the rounded end of a teaspoon and then use my impeccably clean hands to smooth and press the insides of the hearts flat. This part is more tedious yet enjoyable at the same time. Lastly, pipe jam in to the hearts and bake!

The end result is buttery and crisp cookies that resemble stained glass ♥️. These cookies aren’t overly sweet, because we have the delicious jammy heart middles to add that extra touch of sweetness.

  • I Made These Jam-Filled Thumbprint Cookies for Valentine’s Day—and They Disappeared

    [ad_1]

This post may contain references to products from one or more of our advertisers. Oh Sweet Basil may receive compensation when you click on links to such products.

Sweet, buttery, and filled with fruity jam, these Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies with Jam are the perfect treat for sharing the love. With soft centers, crisp edges, and a drizzle of creamy white chocolate, they’re as beautiful as they are delicious.

Simple ingredients and a whole lot of heart make this Valentine’s cookie recipe one you’ll want to make year after year.

This classic thumbprint cookie recipe uses just the right amount of butter, while still delivering that rich, buttery flavor! They’re shaped into sweet little hearts, baked with love, and perfect for Valentine’s Day!

The first time I had a thumbprint cookie, I was in elementary school and my mom had this little cookbook for kids. That was so cute with these darling little graphics of kids cooking almost precious moments style. Remember those little kids that were so popular? The only problem was the recipe turned out dry and boring.

I’ve been hesitant to share a thumbprint cookie ever since, but this one is absolute perfection and it’s almost like a cross between a sugar cookie and a melt in your mouth butter cookie. I prefer to use a seedless jam, but do whatever you’ve got on hand. My extra touch? A little drizzle of white chocolate and making the indents into the shape of a heart really takes these to the next level for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day thumbprint cookies arranged on a plate with jam-filled centers and white chocolate drizzle.

Ingredients For Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies

You don’t need anything fancy to make these Valentine’s thumbprint cookies! Just a handful of pantry staples that come together to create the perfect treat.

    • Butter: Creates a rich, tender cookie base.
    • Sugar: Sweetens and helps the cookies spread.
    • Brown Sugar: Adds moisture and a soft texture.
    • Egg Yolk: Binds the dough and keeps it chewy.
    • Vanilla: Enhances the overall flavor.
    • Almond Extract: Adds a light, nutty warmth.
    • Salt: Balances the sweetness.
    • Flour: Gives the cookies structure.
    • Cornstarch: Keeps the cookies soft and thick.
    • Seedless Jam: For the jam filling for each thumbprint. Strawberry, raspberry, and cherry work best for Valentine’s Day.
    • White Baking Bark/White Chocolate Chips: Adds a sweet, creamy finish.

I love making these cookies while my kids are at school, so when they come home, a sweet Valentine’s treat is waiting for them.

    How to Make Thumbprint Cookies

These thumbprint cookies are a fun take on a classic, and they’re easy enough for kids to help make. Here’s how to bake them step by step:

    1. Prep Chocolate: Chop the white baking bark or white chocolate chips and set aside.
    2. Cream Butter: Beat the butter until soft and fluffy.
    3. Add Sugars: Mix in both sugars and the salt until smooth.
    4. Mix Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg yolk, vanilla, and almond extract.
    5. Add Dry Ingredients: Slowly mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
    6. Shape Cookies: Roll dough into balls, place on a lined tray, and press a thumbprint in the center.
    7. Chill Dough: Freeze cookies for 30 minutes so they hold their shape.
    8. Fill & Bake: Warm the jam, fill each thumbprint, then bake at 375°F until edges are golden.
    9. Cool: Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
    10. Drizzle: Melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the cooled cookies.

  • Fluffy Egg-Free Red Velvet Waffles That Feel Special (Perfect for Kids & Holidays)

    [ad_1]

These Fluffy Red Velvet Waffles are egg-free by design and made for families who want fun, safe, and reliable breakfast recipes. With over 12 years of egg-free cooking experience, I’ve tested this recipe until it delivers fluffy centers, crisp edges, and classic red velvet flavor using simple ingredients. Perfect for holidays, birthdays, or weekend mornings, they’re also freezer-friendly for busy days. No one should ever feel left out at the breakfast table — and these waffles make sure of that.

Looking for more egg-free waffle recipes to try at home? Check out my Eggless Classic Belgian Waffles, Eggless Chocolate Waffles, Eggless Banana Waffles, and Eggless Bacon Cheddar Savory Waffles.

    Oriana’s Thoughts On The Recipe

Oriana Romero, creator of Mommy's Home Cooking and egg-free baking queen.

These fluffy red velvet waffles were born because my boy loves anything red velvet, and I wanted him to enjoy a fun, special breakfast without a single worry. Red velvet always feels a little extra, and I love being able to bring that feeling to our breakfast table safely.

This recipe is egg-free on purpose, just like everything I make. I didn’t want a “good enough” substitute — I wanted waffles that are truly fluffy inside, crisp on the outside, and worthy of a slow weekend morning or a special celebration.

What really matters to me is that food allergies don’t take away those moments. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, a birthday morning, or a random Saturday when everyone wakes up hungry, these waffles help make those memories feel just as joyful and normal as they should.

Why You’ll Want to Try My Recipe

    • Egg-Free by Design: No swaps, no compromises — this recipe was developed from the start to work beautifully without eggs.
    • Fluffy with Crisp Edges: Soft, Belgian-style centers with lightly crisp edges, just how waffles should be.
    • Family-Friendly Red Velvet Flavor: All the classic red velvet vibes without feeling fancy or intimidating.
    • Perfect for Special Mornings: Ideal for holidays, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, or any morning you want to make feel special.
    • Freezer-Friendly: Make a double batch and thank yourself later on busy mornings.

    • All-Purpose Flour: Gives structure and keeps the waffles soft but sturdy.
    • Cocoa Powder: Just enough for that classic red velvet flavor without overpowering.
    • Cornstarch: Adds a little extra crispiness on the outside. You can skip it, but I like the texture it gives.
    • Granulated Sugar: Adds sweetness and helps with browning.
    • Baking Powder & Baking Soda: Work together to create fluffy, tall waffles without eggs.
    • Salt: Balances the sweetness and brings out the cocoa flavor.
    • Buttermilk: Adds moisture and tenderness while activating the baking soda. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make your own. Check out my Easy Homemade Buttermilk Substitute [Video] post.
    • Unsalted Butter: Adds richness and helps create crisp edges.
    • Oil: Adds moisture and helps with browning. Think vegetable, canola, or avocado oil.
    • Vanilla Extract: Rounds out the flavor.
    • Red Velvet Bakery Emulsion (Optional): Enhances color and flavor but isn’t required. This is the bakery emulsion I use.
    • Red Gel Food Coloring: Gives that signature red velvet look without watering down the batter.

This recipe is naturally egg, nut, peanut, soy, sesame, fish, and shellfish-free, making it suitable for most dietary needs, but always check labels for hidden allergens.

    • Dairy-Free: To make this recipe dairy-free, you can easily swap out the dairy ingredients for non-dairy alternatives.
      • Butter: Substitute butter with dairy-free butter substitutes. Miyoko’s Creamery Organic Vegan Butter, Trader Joe’s brand vegan butter, and Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Sticks are my favorite butter substitutes for baking. For the best flavor, use a vegan butter that tastes good. Use sticks or blocks, not tub (spreadable) butter.
      • Buttermilk: Make a homemade buttermilk substitute by mixing 1 cup of non-dairy milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice and letting it sit for a few minutes until it curdles.
    • Gluten-Free: Use a gluten-free, all-purpose flour blend. Look for a gluten-free flour blend specifically formulated for baking, as it will have the right combination of flours and starches to mimic the texture of wheat flour. My favorite is Better Batter Original Blend. I also like Doves Farm Freee Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour, but this blend does not contain xanthan gum, so you need to add 1/4 teaspoon of xanthan gum per cup (140 g) of gluten-free flour blend.

    Recipe Tips For Success

    ➤ Troubleshooting Tips:

    • Waffles Feel Dense: Overmixing the batter can weigh it down. Pro Tip: Mix just until everything is combined and smooth, then stop.
    • Color Isn’t Bright Enough: Red velvet color can vary by brand. Pro Tip: Use gel food coloring and adjust slightly if needed for that classic red look.
    • Waffles Stick to the Iron: Cocoa batter can cling more than plain batter. Pro Tip: Lightly spray the waffle iron before each waffle, even if it’s non-stick.
    • Not Fluffy Enough: Skipping the rest time can affect texture. Pro Tip: Let the batter rest for the full 10 minutes so the leavening can do its job.
    • Always measure cocoa powder properly — too much can dry out the waffles.
    • Letting the batter rest really makes a difference in fluffiness. Don’t skip it.
    • Lightly grease your waffle iron before each batch, even if it’s nonstick.
    • Watch the steam, not the clock — when the steam coming out od the sides of the waffle maker slow downs, your waffles are usually ready.

    • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.

    • Combine the buttermilk, melted butter, oil, vanilla extract, red velvet bakery emulsion (if using), and red gel food coloring. Mix just until smooth.

    • Mix dry and wet ingredients with a whisk, just until combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the waffles heavy. Let the batter rest at room temperature for 10 minutes.

    • Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    • Lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the batter into the waffle iron. Note: The amount of batter needed will vary depending on the size of your wafflemaker. For standard waffle irons, about 1/2 cup of batter per waffle works well.

    • Cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually 3 to 4 minutes, or until the waffles are cooked through. Tip: Your waffles are usually ready when steam stops coming out of the sides of the waffle maker.

    • To keep waffles warm while cooking the remaining batter, place them directly on the oven rack in a single layer in a 200°F (95°C) oven. This allows air to circulate and helps the waffles stay crisp.

    • Serve warm with a drizzle of cream cheese glaze, whipped topping, or maple syrup, and finish with fresh berries for a classic red velvet touch.
