  • Rich Cultural Vacations Await At These Central And South American Countries

    [ad_1]

Central and South America are having something of a moment in the travel world. From the elegant sophistication of Buenos Aires in Argentina to the fascinating Indigenous communities hidden away in the mountains of Bolivia and Peru, there are stunning and unusual places to discover from the top to the bottom of Latin America.

There are plenty of spots in Central and South America that are already world-renowned vacation destinations, but there are also some truly stunning places that are getting more attention this year. Not only are these spots incredibly beautiful, but they also offer a rich, cultural experience that is truly hard to beat. With an extraordinary cultural diversity on show, Latin America provides a unique and fascinating array of traditions, history, art, and culture that makes it one of the world’s best regions to explore.

We looked at some of the most authoritative travel guides in the world and cross-referenced several Best Travel Destinations for 2026 lists. From these sources, we’ve chosen five of the most exciting countries in South and Central America: Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, and Brazil. These destinations should definitely be on your radar to visit in 2026 for a rich cultural experience.

    Panama

Panama is sometimes seen as just the country of the Panama Canal and retired expats, but there are a whole lot of other reasons why Panama should be your next travel destination. This small, beautiful, friendly country boasts a fabulous climate, some amazing beaches and rainforests, and stunning colonial relics, and it is a wonderfully affordable place to visit as well.

One of the emerging places in Panama that is set to be a standout destination for 2026 is the Chiriqui Province, on the Pacific Coast, about 300 miles southwest of the capital, Panama City. It is a fantastically diverse region, offering a combination of stunning natural beauty, fascinating history, and castaway-style vibes. It is one of Panama’s biggest coffee-producing regions, and the Feria de las Flores y Del Café in the picture-perfect town of Boquete is a wonderful way to experience the culture surrounding this industry. Even if you miss the festival, a coffee-tasting at one of the many plantations surrounding the town is a great experience.

Chiriqui’s natural environment is one of its biggest draws. La Amistad International Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site covering nearly 1 million acres and Central America’s largest nature reserve. The Gulf of Chiriqui National Marine Park is also worth visiting, particularly from July to October during the humpback whale migration. The region is also famous for its farm-to-table cuisine, with spots like Finca Lerida in Boquete serving up fabulous Panamanian flavors using local organic produce.

    Colombia

For many years, Colombia has had a reputation as one of the most dangerous South American destinations to visit, but the last few years have seen it shake off this image, and there are some excellent destinations set to be huge in 2026. The vibrant city of Medellin is emblematic of Colombia’s evolution, having gone from the narco capital of the country to one of the most exciting food cities in South America in just two decades. Famed for its buzzy nightlife and ingenious urban sprawl, the cluster of hillside communities that make up this vibey city is filled with incredible places to eat and drink, and the arrival of the $100-million Wake development is set to turbo-charge this foodie atmosphere.

Colombia’s rich cultural offerings continue in the fortified seaside city of Cartagena de Indias. With its wonderfully preserved stone walls, charming historic city center, gorgeous Spanish colonial architecture, and magnificent museums, it is a treasure trove of historical and cultural experiences. Don’t miss the Museo de Oro Zenú and the Museo Histórico de Cartagena for a chance to explore Colombia’s varied and at times dark past.

    Brazil

Brazil is hardly a hidden gem in South America. From the endless white-sand beaches and vibrant nightlife of Rio de Janeiro to the lush Amazonian rainforests, Brazil has been a bucket list destination for many travelers for years. But there are still plenty of undiscovered gems in this vast country ready to be discovered.

One spot that is being heralded as a breakout star for 2026 is Minas Gerais. One of the largest states in Brazil, it has been overlooked by international tourists for years but is an astonishingly rich and diverse region with a wonderful gastronomic culture, beautiful colonial architecture, and vibrant boteco nightlife. Its capital, Belo Horizonte, is sophisticated and lively in equal measures, with an astonishingly hip and forward-thinking dining scene boasting a series of young, talented chefs like Caio Soter and Bruna Rezende. It is one of the best places in Brazil for contemporary art, with spots like Mercado Novo, Albuquerque Contemporânea, and the recently-opened Galeria Ficus in the city itself, and Inhotim, Latin America’s largest open-air art museum, just over 30 miles out of town.

Another fantastic yet underappreciated gem in Brazil is the lush, stunning wetlands of the Pantanal. The world’s largest tropical wetland, this enormous region has a truly staggering variety and amount of wildlife, from jaguars, capybaras, and giant otters to caimans, tapirs, and the legendary hyacinth macaws. A seasonal floodplain of epic proportions, it is exceptionally remote and quite a challenge to visit, but this makes it all the more worthwhile.

    Chile

Chile is an extraordinary country. A long sliver of land sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and Argentina, it runs around half the length of South America, bordering Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. Often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbors, it offers an astounding variety of landscapes, ecosystems, and cultures, from incredible wines and gaucho culture to the wide-open skies of the Atacama Desert and the soaring peaks of the Andes.

Right at the southern tip of the continent, Patagonia is a famous destination for adventure travelers, with Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park a favorite. But recently, the lesser-known delights of the north of the region have begun to gain popularity, thanks to its unspoiled natural beauty, incredible wildlife, and magnificent hot springs.

Another relatively underexplored spot in Chile that is primed for a huge 2026 is the Colchagua Valley, Chilean wine country. Chilean wine is often slept on, overlooked in favor of its noisier Argentinian cousin, but the Colchagua Valley boasts some of the world’s most impressive wineries, as well as being the center of Chilean cowboy culture. With 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of Chile’s Wine Route, it is looking like it will be a big year for this area in particular.

    Bolivia

Bolivia is one of South America’s true hidden gems. Known by international tourists and photography fans primarily for the bizarre and beautiful shimmering bone-white landscape of Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, the rest of the country is far less explored. But there’s a tremendous amount to discover, and 2026 might be the year it gets the recognition it deserves.

Potosí is the region that surrounds the otherworldly expanse of Salar de Uyuni and has plenty of other attractions to recommend it to adventurous tourists. The capital city, Potosí, has an extraordinary history intertwined with the silver mines of the Cerro Rico, and popular legend has it that at least one street in the city was literally paved with silver! A UNESCO World Heritage site, the city boasts some truly gorgeous Mestizo-Baroque houses, churches, and theaters, as well as the Casa Real de la Moneda, the former mint now converted into a museum.

The rest of the region is splendidly weird, from the looming summit of Cerro Rico (known as the mountain that eats men due to the vast number of people who died working in its mines) to the crimson waters of the Laguna Colorada. One of the main attractions is the bubbling thermal springs that pop up from the volcanic energy below the surface of the Earth, like the Termas de Polques and the mythical Ojo del Inca, usually known as Laguna Tarapaya.

To curate this list, we looked at lists of travel destinations for 2026 from authoritative sources, searching for compelling arguments in favor of particular countries or destinations. We prioritized popular countries with regions or cities that have, up to now, been underexplored or overlooked, as well as places that have a particular anniversary or occasion that would suggest increased tourist interest in 2026. Other considerations were areas that offered specific experiences that were similar to those elsewhere in the country but with fewer visitors.

  • Luxury cruise line goes ‘adults only’ to create more ‘tranquil environment’ for guests

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A major cruise line is officially going adults-only, joining a growing group of brands betting that travelers are seeking tranquility over kid-friendly activities.

Oceania Cruises, a Miami-based company that operates eight luxury ships sailing across Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Africa and Australia, announced this month it will begin welcoming only guests age 18 and older for new reservations.

“Our guests have consistently shared that the tranquil environment aboard our ships is one of the primary reasons they return time and time again,” Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement. “By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey — one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery.”

CRUISE LINE AMBASSADOR REFUTES ‘NONSENSE’ RUMOR ABOUT HIGHER DRINK PACKAGE LIMIT

The company said that the policy shift reflects its commitment to providing a “relaxed atmosphere of genuine hospitality and meaningful connection.”

All bookings made before Jan. 7, 2026, that include guests under 18 will still be honored, the company added.

Many guests already thought Oceania was only for adults because there were so few kids aboard many of its ships, Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Hickman told USA Today.

The average Oceania passenger is in his or her mid-60s — and Hickman joked that the extent of their kids’ programming had been a “ping-pong table on the pool deck.”

“We’re not trying to be all things to all people,” Hickman told the outlet. “We’re going to be very narrowly defined, and we’re not even changing who our target guest is. It’s the same person.”

The change will help the cruise line “manage expectations,” he added.

The new policy also further differentiates Oceania from its luxury sister line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises — which still welcomes travelers under 18, the website Cruise Critic noted.

Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, along with Norwegian Cruise Line, all operate under the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings umbrella.

Fox News Digital reached out to Oceania Cruises for comment.

“Adults-only cruising is appealing to a wide range of travelers — and that goes for travelers who don’t have kids, as well as those who do,” Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, told Parade.

“Adults-only cruise lines are consistently some of the highest-rated among reviewers on Cruise Critic, and the adults-only experience is often the most-praised part of the cruise for those travelers.”

While cruises can be great for families, travelers say they sometimes need “a break,” according to experts. (iStock)

“Sailing with families is a wonderful part of cruising, but our cruisers tell us [that] sometimes, they’re just looking for a break,” McDaniel added.

Only a handful of cruise lines are completely adults-only, including Virgin Voyages and Viking Cruises. The concept is expanding both through new adult-exclusive policies such as Oceania’s, as well as designated adult-focused sailings on mainstream lines.

Carnival Cruise Line recently announced it will add more adults-only sailings in 2026 through its SEA (Sailings Exclusively for Adults) program, which features invite-only cruises reserved for guests 21 and older with expanded casino access and themed parties, according to multiple reports.

Some cruise lines also restrict certain areas of their ships to adults.

That includes Carnival’s Serenity Deck, which is open to guests 21 and older; Royal Caribbean’s Solarium, an adults-only oasis with pools, hot tubs and loungers for passengers typically 16 and up; and Norwegian Cruise Line, which offers designated adult-only areas on its ships.

Even Disney Cruise Line caters to adults, offering designated adults-only pools, upscale lounges and fine-dining restaurants separate from kid’s spaces.

The two moved to London in 2020 with their son, Jack, and later welcomed their daughter, Isabella, in 2022.

“We love the schools, the education,” she said “They’re growing up British with their little British accents, which was important for us, and we have a great support system here. Jay’s parents live up the road and see the kids most days. My family come to visit every six or eight weeks. • A tiny island was just ranked safest in the Caribbean — here’s why travelers love it

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

If safety is at the top of your vacation checklist, one tiny Caribbean island just earned top honors for peace, calm beaches — and a world-class food scene.

Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory just north of St. Maarten and east of the Virgin Islands, was named the safest destination in the Caribbean, according to a 2025 ranking from World Population Review, which evaluates crime, policing and political stability based on data from the Global Peace Index.

“Anguilla crime rates are the lowest in the Caribbean, with very few violent or petty crimes to mar its reputation as a tropical oasis,” the report found. “Tourists can feel safe and at ease in tranquil Anguilla.”

URGENT ADVISORY FOR EXOTIC DESTINATION WARNS OF ‘CRIMINAL GANGS’ AND ‘VIOLENT CRIME’

While the review noted that drug-related offenses are “moderate,” it added that such crimes rarely affect visitors.

The U.S. Department of State also lists Anguilla at a Level 1 travel advisory — the lowest possible risk level — advising tourists to simply exercise normal precautions.

“Here, peace isn’t found, it’s felt,” the Anguilla Tourist Board wrote on social media after the report was released. “From 33 beaches to the warmth of our community, safety is simply part of island life on Anguilla.”

AMERICA’S WEALTHY ARE QUIETLY BUYING THEIR WAY OUT WITH ‘GOLDEN’ VISAS

Following Anguilla in the World Population Review’s safety ranking were Barbados, St. Barts, Martinique, the Cayman Islands and Aruba.

John Rose, chief risk adviser for ALTOUR, a global travel management company, said Anguilla’s ranking stems from several distinct advantages. “Its isolation and limited access points also reduce cross-border criminal activity, and tourism is managed in a more controlled, boutique environment,” Rose told Fox News Digital.

The designation is a meaningful recognition not only for traveler confidence but also from a tourism economics perspective, he added.

It’s also not the first time Anguilla has earned international praise for its appeal.

Anguilla was also recognized by Travel + Leisure’s 2025 World’s Best Awards as one of the top islands globally — and the highest-ranked in the Caribbean — earning praise for its friendly hospitality, diverse cuisine and luxury resorts.

Experts and travel blogs often highlight Anguilla as a remote, exclusive escape free of shopping malls, cruise ships and high-rises where travelers can soak up crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches and fresh seafood feasts.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the island “is noted for its easy-going atmosphere and magnificent beaches and waters.”

Erin Schroeder, an Atlanta-based travel adviser and founder of Major Traveler, told Fox News Digital she agrees that Anguilla stands out as one of the best destinations in the Caribbean.

“The island of Anguilla being named the safest country in the Caribbean is an incredible win,” Schroeder told Fox News Digital. “Safety in the Caribbean is a top-three deciding factor when travelers are weighing various islands.”

In addition to safety, travelers also seek destinations that offer easy transportation and walkability — both of which Anguilla has, she added.

“I personally love the ability to walk along the beach at night to local restaurants, or exercise on the island’s flat roads, knowing that it’s safe to do so,” Schroeder said.

She noted that Anguilla’s exclusive, off-the-beaten-path appeal also makes it a little harder to reach, with only one direct flight option from the United States. “There’s a high price of entry, as travelers have to fly to St. Maarten and take a boat, which costs about $115 per person each way for a shared ferry,” she said.

Peaceful shores and welcoming locals have helped Anguilla earn the title of the Caribbean’s safest destination. (iStock)

Rose offered additional travel tips — take a “layered” approach to safety by reviewing local advisories, checking with hosts or advisers for up-to-date information, and practicing common-sense precautions such as limiting displays of wealth and using registered transportation.

“Safety is dynamic, not static,” he said. “The best travelers prepare by gathering accurate information before they go, monitoring while they’re there and staying ready to respond if something changes. That’s how you travel smart, not scared.”

A beachgoer in Ibiza made a grisly discovery Friday morning when a human foot washed ashore on one of the island’s busiest beaches, Playa d’en Bossa.

Local outlet Diario de Ibiza reported that the remains appeared among storm debris and were spotted by an unidentified man walking along the shore. The witness immediately alerted authorities, and by around 8 a.m. local time, several Spanish National Police patrol units had arrived at the scene.

Images published by The Sun show police officers and investigators in high-visibility vests inspecting the area as onlookers gathered nearby. Authorities closed off part of the beach to collect evidence and prevent contamination of the site.

The man who made the discovery reportedly secured the foot with a stick to keep it from being swept back into the water, according to Diario de Ibiza.

  • East Coast beaches hit with ‘fecal contamination’ warnings ahead of Labor Day weekend

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Labor Day vacationers across the East Coast are facing “fecal contamination” warnings at their beaches this holiday weekend.

Water quality warnings have struck costal areas from Maine to Florida this week, with advisories saying high levels of bacteria could cause nausea or rashes.

There have been closures this week at some of the country’s most popular beach destinations, including Keyes Memorial Beach in the Cape Cod village of Hyannis in Barnstable, Massachusetts, and Benjamin’s Beach on Long Island in Bay Shore, New York.

A report from Environment America assessed beach safety by examining whether fecal bacteria levels exceeded standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that trigger an alert to avoid the water. Fecal bacteria at those levels can cause illness in 32 out of every 1,000 swimmers.

AMAZON’S SECRET OUTLET LABOR DAY SALE: KITCHENAID, CARHARTT AND MORE UNDER $50

Beaches across the East Coast are showing higher levels of “fecal contamination” this Labor Day weekend. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

John Rumpler, clean water director and senior attorney with Environment America, said aging sewer systems are to blame for much of the contamination.

“These beaches are a treasure for families across New England and across the country. They are a shared resource,” said Rumpler. “We need to make the investment to make sure that literally our own human waste doesn’t wind up in the places where we are swimming.”

Nevertheless, many people plan to enjoy the ocean anyway this weekend. Despite a two-day warning of elevated fecal indicator bacteria last month at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, beachgoer Yaromyr Oryshkevych was not concerned.

“I really don’t expect to be in any kind of danger of fecal contamination,” Oryshkevych, a retired dentist, told the Associated Press.

He said he didn’t think Rehoboth was close enough to notable pollution to be concerned, and he expected the ocean’s natural currents to take care of any problems with contamination in the area.

In North Carolina, five beaches were under advisories in late August because of elevated levels of fecal bacteria. The beaches are open, but swimmers are advised that going in the water could be risky, said Erin Bryan-Millush, environmental program supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

Bryan-Millush said that heavy rain from storms like the recent Hurricane Erin exacerbated the issue in parts of the East Coast, noting that “storm drains carry everything” out onto costal beaches.

“It could be really bad for someone who is immune compromised,” Bryan-Millush said.
