  • Muslim civil rights group CAIR sues Texas over Abbott’s ‘terrorist’ designation

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A prominent Muslim advocacy organization is taking Texas to court, arguing that Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to brand it a “foreign terrorist organization” tramples both the U.S. Constitution and state law.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin chapters filed a federal lawsuit Thursday seeking to overturn Abbott’s proclamation issued earlier in the week.

“This attempt to punish the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization simply because Governor Abbott disagrees with its views is not only contrary to the United States Constitution, but finds no support in any Texas law,” the group said in its lawsuit.

Founded in 1994, CAIR operates 25 chapters nationwide, including a small Texas staff of eight employees and two contractors, according to the filing.

TEXAS GOV ABBOTT DECLARES CAIR, MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AS TERRORIST GROUPS, PREVENTING LAND PURCHASES

“CAIR-Texas and the Texas Muslim community are standing up for our constitutional rights by directly confronting Greg Abbott’s lawless attack on our civil rights,” CAIR-Texas said in a statement. “We are not and will not be intimidated by smear campaigns launched by Israel First politicians like Mr. Abbott. Mr. Abbott is defaming us and other American Muslims because we are effective advocates for justice here and abroad. We plan to continue exercising our constitutional rights, defending civil rights, and speaking truth to power, whether in defense of free speech, religious freedom and racial equality here in Texas or in defense of human rights abroad.”

Abbott’s order extended the “terrorist” label to the Muslim Brotherhood, even though federal authorities have never classified either group that way.

The governor’s decree also bars CAIR from purchasing land in the Lone Star State under a new statute aimed at curbing purchases tied to “foreign adversaries.”

The group’s filing contends Abbott relied on “inflammatory statements with no basis in fact,” selectively citing remarks by affiliates to paint CAIR as sympathetic to terrorism.

“The lawsuit we have filed today is our first step towards defeating Governor Abbott again so that our nation protects free speech and due process for all Americans,” CAIR Litigation Director and General Counsel Lena Masri said in a statement. “No civil rights organizations are safe if a governor can baselessly and unilaterally declare any of them terrorist groups, ban them from buying land, and threaten them with closure. We have beaten Greg Abbott’s attacks on the First Amendment before, and God willing, we will do it again now.”

The Muslim Legal Fund of America also said it is “proud to defend the constitutional rights of CAIR-Texas and the right of all Texans to engage in free speech and uphold civil rights without facing lawless and defamatory attacks by Greg Abbott.”

“Mr. Abbott’s unconstitutional proclamation undermines the very foundational notions of due process that our system depends upon and it must not stand,” said Muslim Legal Fund of America attorney Charlie Swift. “For the sake of our nation’s basic freedoms, Greg Abbott’s latest attack on the American people must be defeated.”

Earlier this year, Texas Republicans sought to stop a Muslim-centered planned community around one of the state’s largest mosques near Dallas.

Abbott and other Republican state officials opened investigations into the development linked to the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC), claiming the group is attempting to create a Muslim-exclusive community that would implement Islamic law.

EPIC City representatives called the attacks alleging Islamic law misleading, dangerous and without basis.

The U.S. Justice Department closed a federal civil rights investigation into the planned community without bringing any charges or lawsuits.

  • Immigrants fined up to $1.8 million for remaining in US sue Trump administration

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A lawsuit was filed Thursday against the federal government on behalf of immigrants facing fines reaching up to $1.8 million each for staying in the U.S. illegally.

Daily penalties of $998 have been levied against more than 21,500 immigrants, whose lawyers say they were attempting to comply with federal immigration laws. The fines were implemented to encourage immigrants to leave the country.

The lawyers said their clients were slapped with “ruinous civil fines” that are “grossly disproportionate to the gravity” of any immigration violations, arguing that the fines are unconstitutional.

The lawsuit, filed in Massachusetts on behalf of two immigrant women, seeks class-action status to represent people facing fines that lawyers say have totaled more than $6 billion under President Donald Trump’s mass deportation policies.

“The people we serve are doing exactly what the law requires — pursuing legal relief through immigration courts and immigration agencies,” Hasan Shafiqullah, a supervising attorney with The Legal Aid Society, one of the groups representing the immigrants, said in a news release. “In return, the government is threatening to seize their wages, cars, even their homes.”

One of the two plaintiffs, a woman residing in Florida who was identified in the complaint only as Nancy M. to protect her from retribution, was instructed to leave the U.S., but also had an “order of supervision” and was meeting annually with immigration officials as she attempted to become a legal permanent resident.

Despite this, she received a bill earlier this year for about $1.8 million, which appeared to be reached through daily $998 fines for the past five years.

The Department of Homeland Security purported that the lawsuit was “just another attempt to nullify federal immigration law through activist litigation.”

“The plaintiffs in this case are here illegally and are suing so they can remain in the country illegally without any consequence or penalty – contrary to decades-old federal law,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Shortly after Trump returned to the White House in January, his administration revealed a series of moves to encourage immigrants to leave the country, including DHS’ announcement in February that illegal immigrants could face “significant financial penalty” if they choose not to self-deport.

Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem “have a clear message for those in our country illegally: leave now,” McLaughlin said in February.

“The Trump administration will enforce all our immigration laws — we will not pick and choose which laws we will enforce,” she added at the time.

  • Tacoma Mall shooting hero uses humor to inspire 20 years after tragedy

    [ad_1]

Thursday marked 20 years since one of the darkest days in Tacoma when a 20-year-old man opened fire inside the Tacoma Mall

    The backstory:

On November 20, 2005, Dominick Maldonado shot 7 people and took four hostages, which included two workers, a customer and a young boy.

Tacoma Police took him into custody later that day, and he was convicted and sent to prison in 2007.

All 7 victims survived the mass shooting, but were left with life-changing trauma and injuries.

FOX 13 talked to one of the heroes from that day, a man from Yelm, who drew a weapon and tried to save others before he was shot himself.

“I tend to lose track of things and then start doing jokes,” said Dan McKown, injured in Tacoma Mall shooting.

Opening with a joke is the way Dan McKown likes to roll.

“Run over the camera, got it,” he said, joking with FOX 13 photographer Adam Sotelo during the shoot.

The professional comedian has been making people laugh since the 80s. He said his first joke, played on a childhood classmate, had him hooked on comedy.

The young man asked, ‘When does February begin?’ He was trying to date his page. I let that marinate and I said, ‘The 1st,’” said Dan, explaining the joke. “That one probably won’t make the cut,” he added, laughing.

But, what he faced on the grey day at the Tacoma Mall in 2005 was no laughing matter.

“Twenty years ago I got shot five times and I got paralyzed,” said Dan.

Dan McKown, Tacoma Mall shooting victim

Dan said he was working as an assistant manager at a cutlery shop when Maldonado walked into a different store and started shooting.

Dan happened to be armed, and the master of stand-up decided it was time to stand up for others.

“Drew my gun, threw myself in the frame of the store where I could look down,” said Dan.

When he didn’t immediately see Maldonando, he started to put his gun away.

“I thought, ‘I’ll put my gun away, but I’ll put my hand on it. That way, if I need it, it will be there,’” he said. “I take one step and that’s when he comes into view.”

Dan hesitated to shoot someone so young and tried to talk to him instead.

“I said, ‘Young man, I think you need to put your weapon down,’” said Dan. “He responded by filling me full of bullets.”

Dan was hit five times in the area of the stomach and leg, and was rushed into hours of surgery after finally reaching the hospital. He was paralyzed and still suffers from pain and other injuries.

“I think it’s important that we seek God because that’s really kind of what manages things in the big picture,” said Dan.

Dan revisited the spot where he was shot 20 years ago and sent us this photo of the location below.

    Dan McKown at Tacoma Mall

With Maldonado later convicted and sentenced to more than 160 years behind bars, Dan hopes the life he spared in deciding not to shoot will be a life changed.

“He’s got an extension on life. Hopefully he doesn’t waste it,” Dan said about Maldonado.

    Maldonado is pictured below.

    Dominick Maldonado, Tacoma Mall shooter

Though the shooting took much of his mobility, Dan’s spirit and humor remain as strong as ever.

“I love the fact I have a lot of footnotes in medical journals,” said Dan.

He’s now gotten into podcasting and makes others laugh on his YouTube channel and at Danmckown.com

“We’ve got a big foot hunting sketch on there, I think is kind of fun,” said Dan.

Some heroes don’t wear capes, but wield a microphone and inspire others with a joke and a mean set of wheels instead.

“What I want to speak about, is the fact that we choose to be courageous or not,” said Dan. “Courage is a choice. Choose courage.”

  • Olympic Pipeline shutdown: Jet fuel leak in Everett, WA could impact SEA Airport

    [ad_1]

Work is underway to repair a pipeline that delivers jet fuel to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after a leak prompted it to be shut down.

    Timeline:

The Olympic Pipeline fuel leak was reported on Nov. 11 in an agricultural field several miles east of Everett. Now, over a week later, a 24-hour effort is underway to excavate, contain, clean and repair the leak. There is no timeline for when the pipeline will resume delivering fuel.

    Olympic Pipeline leak site

Olympic Pipeline leak site (via BP)

Washington Governor Bob Feruguson issued an emergency declaration to ensure adequate fuel is delivered to Sea-Tac Airport during the pipeline shutdown. The governor’s office said airport operations would be “significantly affected” if it doesn’t start back up by Saturday.

No flights at SEA Airport have been affected yet. However, in anticipation, Gov. Ferguson waived the number of hours jet fuel tanker operators can drive while ensuring safe-driving measures remain in place.

The pipeline temporarily restarted on Sunday, Nov. 16, after a successful leak test. Fuel deliveries resumed to the airport, but the pipeline was shut down again on Monday due to additional leakage at the response site.

The Olympic Pipeline transports refined petroleum products to sites in Seattle, SeaTac, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Portland. The system consists of two pipelines, including a 20-inch pipeline and a 16-inch pipeline. The 16-inch pipeline is the one that leaked.

    What they’re saying:

The Washington State Department of Ecology issued the following statement regarding the fuel leak response:

“Our cleanup includes using a vacuum truck and adsorbent materials, along with cleaning up contaminated soil. Responders are still determining the amount spilled.”

Alaska Airlines also released a statement regarding possible impacts at Sea-Tac International Airport:

“We are working to mitigate a potential impact from the Olympic Pipeline fuel leak. We are not currently experiencing any disruption to our operation at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

“To ensure our scheduled service is maintained without significant disruption, we are preparing contingency plans, which include fuel management strategies such as tankering in fuel on inbound flights to Seattle, assessing tech stop options along certain routes to conserve fuel, and maintaining and expanding our trucking operation to bring in additional fuel supply.

“We remain in close communication with Olympic Pipeline, refineries, and our airport partners and will communicate if we begin to see operational impacts.”

SEA Airport says multiple airlines have been working on contingency plans if the pipeline shutdown persists.

At one point, deputies used a grapple – a device designed to hook onto the back tire – to slow the car. It worked briefly, until the line snapped in half. Seconds later, sirens blared as deputies tried to catch up with the man, who weaved through traffic at speeds up to 117 mph. Deputies eventually got close enough to perform a PIT maneuver, causing the suspect's car to veer off the road, roll and eject the driver. Sheriff Sanfers said the suspect survived with only minor injuries. An AR-15 with a 60-round magazine was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Deputies said they also found additional guns inside the car. As of Friday morning, the 20-year-old had been booked into jail after receiving medical treatment. He is expected in court Thursday.

  • Holiday crime fears grow as ‘jugging’ thieves target shoppers carrying cash and gifts: ‘Only a matter of time’

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Authorities throughout the country are warning shoppers to remain vigilant ahead of their holiday errands as thieves are turning to a popular crime trend to make off with quick cash.

The trend – nicknamed “jugging” – involves criminals following victims from ATMs, banks or stores in an effort to steal their cash or new purchases, according to the FBI. Law enforcement officers typically see a rise in incidents around the holiday season, with shoppers often walking around with large sums of cash or high-cost gifts.

“Jugging is just, in my opinion, a slang term for crimes of opportunity,” retired NYPD officer Bill Stanton told Fox News Digital. “Think of predators, where there are crocodiles or water creatures that hang out by the watering hole, right? And in this case, it’s an ATM or an ATM-type machine.”

Numerous instances of individuals falling victim to the trend have made national headlines, with the most recent incident striking a Texas man earlier this month.

ATM ‘JACKPOTTING’ CRIME WAVE GROWS AFTER THIEVES WALK AWAY WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS IN CASH

Surveillance video shows the moment two men allegedly broke the windows of an empty pickup truck and stole a cash envelope after following the victim from an ATM to a gas station in Houston, Texas, on April 28, 2025. (Houston Police Department)

On Nov. 10, a 70-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint as he was visiting an ATM in a Walmart parking lot in Houston, according to FOX26.

Police said the suspect forced the victim to withdraw cash from the machine, then shot the man after he handed over the money. The unnamed man was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

A similar incident unfolded on April 29, when police say a Houston man was followed from a Wells Fargo Bank ATM to a car wash, where an unidentified male suspect brandished a firearm in an attempt to rob the victim, according to the Houston Police Department. The suspect then fled the area on foot, before entering a white SUV and driving off, police said.

One day earlier, a man was followed from a Chase Bank in Houston, where surveillance video captured two suspects pulling up next to his vehicle on each side while the man entered a gas station convenience store, according to police. Video then captured the two suspects – who are believed to be the same individuals involved in the robbery on the following day – breaking both front windows of the victim’s vehicle before removing a cash envelope from the center console.

BLUE CITY POLICE BLASTED FOR ‘EMBARRASSING’ TIPS TO ROBBERY VICTIMS AS CRIME SPIKES, VETERAN OFFICER SAYS

An ATM worker is held to the ground during a robbery

Johnny Juwan Clark pleaded guilty earlier this year to the “jugging” robbery of an ATM technician in Houston, Texas, on July 3, 2024. Surveillance video captured Clark forcing the technician to the ground while two codefendants allegedly stole nearly $250,000 in cash from the machine, according to the Department of Justice. (The Department of Justice)

Earlier this year, a Houston man was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to the “jugging” robbery of an ATM technician, according to the Department of Justice.

According to prosecutors, 33-year-old Johnny Juwan Clark was out on supervised release for a separate robbery incident when he, along with three others, forced an ATM technician to the ground and forcibly removed hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash from the machine in Midlothian, Texas.

The group was working within a Houston-based criminal organization called the “Hiram Clarke Money Team” when Clark admitted following the technician to multiple stops, before approaching the victim from behind and forcing him to the ground in front of a Chase Bank ATM, according to the DOJ.

Clark kept his fist to the back of the technician’s head as two alleged accomplices stole approximately $248,000 in cash from the machine, prosecutors said. The group then allegedly fled the scene and met at a nearby apartment complex, where the stolen money was loaded into the back of a Range Rover and driven back to Houston.

Once the cash was transported, Clark and another codefendant used a portion of the money to purchase an S-Class Mercedes-Benz and jewelry, according to prosecutors.

Clark’s attorney and the Houston Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

“It’s more of a want issue,” Stanton said. “And if the economy isn’t going in their favor, it’s more of a motivating factor – that, and the holidays.”

According to Stanton, criminals often seek out victims that look as though they are not paying attention to their surroundings when in a public place.

    GHOST-TAPPING SCAM TARGETS TAP-TO-PAY USERS

“If you give the impression that you are prey, that you are lunch or dinner by way of giving up your money, it’s only a matter of time,” Stanton told Fox News Digital. “It’s not a matter of if, but when. Just because it’s never happened before, doesn’t mean that you’re untouchable – it means that you’re lucky.”

Stanton urges shoppers to take precautionary measures to protect themselves, especially during the holiday season.

He, along with the FBI, suggest shoppers should look around for anyone who may appear suspicious before approaching an ATM or exiting their vehicle in a parking lot.

ROBBER’S FAKE LIMP VANISHES DURING BANK HEIST CAUGHT ON CAMERA, POLICE SAY

Additionally, the FBI urges individuals to vary their banking habits and stay away from a traceable routine, while also concealing their cash when leaving an ATM or store.

“Don’t make it easy for them,” Stanton said. “Take the money, put it deep in your pocket and go right to the car. Don’t be fanning the money, counting it out while you’re on the phone.”

Stanton also implores shoppers who may find themselves in a dangerous situation to simply hand over the money if they are approached by a criminal.

“If you’re in the middle of it, give it up,” he said. “Whether the money is from the ATM, that can be replaced – not your life. Toss the money and run the other way if you’re able to.”

As Americans are taking to the stores to get a jump start on their holiday shopping, Stanton urges buyers to keep personal safety at the forefront of their minds as they buy their gifts for the season.

“While you’re doing your holiday shopping, so are the bad guys,” Stanton said. “While you’re looking for that deal or to buy that expensive item, they’re watching you and are like, ‘Oh, I like that person’s taste. That’s what their gift is, and it’s going to be my possession.’ You know, put that in your mind, and it makes you a little bit more aware.”

  • Texas father dies in accidental shooting on hunting trip, daughter says family is ‘heartbroken’

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A Texas family is mourning the sudden loss of a husband and father who, according to state officials, accidentally shot and killed himself during a weekend hunting trip.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) game wardens responded just after midnight Saturday to a hunting accident in Northeast Texas that claimed the life of Jose Ramirez, 45, of Grapevine, the agency said.

Ramirez, a father of three, was identified in a GoFundMe campaign created by one of his daughters.

“My father, Jose Ramirez, passed away unexpectedly, and our family is heartbroken. My dad meant the world to me,” the GoFundMe reads.

Ramirez was removing his firearm from a vehicle when it discharged, local outlet KLTV reported, citing TPWD. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

His daughter described him as “the pillar of our home, the provider for our family, and the one who always made sure we were taken care of.” She added that the “light of his life” was his infant granddaughter.

“He taught me the most important lessons in life — to never give up, to work hard for what you want, and to always do what makes you happy, no matter how small it may seem,” she wrote of her father. “He believed that true success comes from loving what you do and living with a happy heart.”

Ramirez grew up in Grapevine and was active in the community, working at many restaurants in the Dallas suburb over the years, according to the Facebook page “Grapevine Edit.”

“Most recently, he worked at Son of a Butcher, Silver Lake Marina’s Rockin’ S Express Bar & Grill, and spent over a decade at Kirby’s Steakhouse,” the page wrote in a post honoring Ramirez’s life. “His family wants the community to know of his passing because they know how many coworkers, customers, and locals cared about him and would want to know.”

The TPWD said game wardens are trained to investigate hunting-related incidents, but “always wish a tragedy like this could have been avoided.”

The agency encouraged all hunters to “take safety seriously” and added a few reminders for handling firearms in a Facebook post.

  • Man arrested in 2021 homicide of missing person in Kent, WA

    [ad_1]

A Des Moines man is now in custody in connection to the 2021 murder of a missing person in Kent.

The suspect was arrested for second-degree murder in connection to the disappearance of 36-year-old Austin Leming, who hasn’t been seen since December 2021.

Leming’s last known location was reported to be in Puyallup, where there were indications that he might be missing under suspicious circumstances. He was then traced to an apartment in Kent.

During the intense, four-year investigation, Kent detectives uncovered that Leming was last known to be with the 46-year-old suspect, and a search of his apartment led to the discovery of blood and evidence that Leming was in the apartment prior to his disappearance.

Kent police and Valley SWAT arrested the suspect on Monday, Nov. 17, after surrounding his home. He has a long criminal history stretching back to the early 2000s, including 14 felonies for assault, eluding, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest marks a significant step in the lengthy investigation into Leming’s disappearance, where police pursued all types of leads, served multiple search warrants, and conducted many interviews in attempts to find him.

“This case is a perfect example of the dedication and commitment our detectives have to bring closure to the family of the victim, and justice to those who committed this heinous crime. We continue to work to locate Austin’s remains as we support his family through this difficult time” noted Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla.

However, Leming’s remains have still not been located. Anyone with information about the case or Austin’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Kent Police Tip Line at 253-856-5808, KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-222-8477. If your tip is urgent, call 911.

  • No, Mount Rainier isn’t about to erupt. Seattle scientists debunk rumors

    [ad_1]

Scientists with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) are pushing back against a viral online report that falsely claims Mount Rainier is showing signs of increased seismic tremor activity.

    What they’re saying:

“There is currently no unusual seismic activity at Mount Rainier,” the PNSN said in a statement this week. “The signal being referenced is actually radio interference, most likely due to rime ice buildup on the antenna of one of our seismic stations.”

    mount rainier photo

Mount Rainier, from Carlyon Beach, southern Puget Sound, Washington. (Marli Miller/UCG/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)

The misleading claim originated from a Daily Mail story that circulated widely on social media, suggesting that “America’s deadliest volcano” had entered a “tremor phase” possibly signaling an eruption. The story cited one seismic graph that appeared to show strong, continuous shaking — data scientists say this is not from the ground, but rather from the station’s aging radio equipment.

What scientists say the data really shows

    seismograph image

    (Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN))

    What we know:

According to the PNSN, the apparent tremor comes from station STAR (EHZ UW 01), located just west of Mount Rainier’s summit. STAR is one of the last remaining analog stations on the volcano, transmitting data through a low-power radio link that can be disrupted during storms.

“When the radio receiver loses signal, like the static you might hear on your car radio when a signal fades, the seismic signal becomes just strong noise,” the release explained.

In short, the “tremor” is electronic noise — not a geologic event.

For comparison, the PNSN provided another seismogram from station RCS, located about 2.5 miles to the northeast. That nearby digital station showed normal, low-level background activity: brief spikes from wind shaking, small glacier slips and minor rock or ice falls — all typical for a high-altitude glacier environment.

    seismograph image

    (Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN))

If there were real tremor or earthquake activity beneath the volcano, experts say it would appear simultaneously across multiple stations around Mount Rainier, not just one. “Any unusual seismic activity (significant earthquakes or volcanic tremor) would show up on both of these stations — and several others — and would be detected and reported by us within a short time,” the PNSN said.

Weather, not the volcano, is to blame

    Dig deeper:

The recent stormy weather on Mount Rainier likely caused the interference, the PNSN said.

When ice forms on the antenna of analog equipment, it can block or distort the radio signal that transmits seismic data, producing a noisy trace that looks like continuous shaking.

Meteorologists also reported heavy snowfall and freezing fog around the summit area at the same time, consistent with conditions that can cause such interference.

Scientists urge caution about misinterpreting data

    Local perspective:

Seismologists stressed that misinterpretations like this can create unnecessary alarm.

“Sloppy journalism by non-scientists who don’t understand seismology nor check with those that do can generate confusion in the public,” the PNSN said.

The organization reminded the public that any genuine volcanic unrest would be promptly detected and communicated through official channels — as occurred in July when a small earthquake swarm was quickly analyzed and explained.

For now, Mount Rainier remains quiet and stable.

    How to verify seismic information

    What you can do:

The PNSN encourages anyone interested in real-time monitoring to view live, verified data directly from its network at pnsn.org. The network operates dozens of instruments on and around Rainier, continuously tracking earthquakes, volcanic tremor, and other ground motions across the Pacific Northwest.

For now, scientists say there’s no cause for concern — only another reminder that weather, not magma, was responsible for this week’s viral noise.

  • Curacao, Known for Offshore Casinos, Qualifies for World Cup

    [ad_1]

    Posted on: November 19, 2025, 11:11h.

    Last updated on: November 19, 2025, 11:21h.

    • Curacao has qualified for its first World Cup
    • The Caribbean island nation is the smallest country to ever make the World Cup
    • Curacao is known for being an offshore casino gambling haven

The tiny Caribbean island country of Curacao is headed to the 2026 World Cup.

On Tuesday, Curacao made history by becoming the smallest-ever nation to qualify for the World Cup. The country’s ascent to global soccer’s main stage came after a 0-0 draw against Jamaica on Tuesday to finish atop its four-team Concacaf group (Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football).

The island nation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands went undefeated in its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Curacao beat St. Lucia 4-0 and Haiti 5-1 in June, tied Trinidad and Tobago, and beat Bermuda 3-2 in September, and beat group favorite Jamaica 2-0 to open their October window before tying Trinidad and Tobago again.

In November, Curacao made easy work of Bermuda 7-0 to reach the group finale. The Jamaica rematch resulted in a tie, sending the nation that’s home to only 156,115 people to soccer’s main event.

Curacao easily becomes to smallest country to ever qualify for the World Cup. Iceland previously held the mark, the country home to more than 352K people, making the 2018 tournament.

Curacao poached many football players from the Netherlands, as approved by FIFA, to help the nation reach its debut World Cup.

    Curacao Casinos

Part of the ABC islands, along with Aruba and Bonaire, Curacao is less reliant on tourism than most other Caribbean countries and territories. Curacao has large financial services and trade industries relevant to its size.

The nation also relies on its gaming industry. Along with land-based casinos, the country is known for being a hub for offshore online casinos and sports betting platforms.

Until 2023, obtaining an online gaming license in Curacao was a rather easy process. The country updated its compliance regulations that year to include stricter anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards.

The changes, which additionally included more stringent oversight of licensees’ gaming operations, were to improve the country’s poor global reputation for being home to many offshore gambling entities.

Once scorned by countries from the United States to China for allowing their licensees to take bets from people abroad, the Curacao Gaming Authority now goes by the motto, “Elevating the Curacao Gaming Industry.”

The Curacao Gaming Authority strives to protect the interest of the public and the integrity and stability of the Curaçao gaming industry by ensuring that all gaming is conducted honestly, responsibly, competitively, and free from criminal and corruptive elements, thereby elevating the Curacao gaming industry,” the regulator said.

The focus of the online gaming updates has dealt with protecting consumers and combating money laundering and terrorism financing. The regulatory reforms haven’t appeased foreign nations wishing for Curacao to prohibit its iGaming concessionaires from targeting players in their countries.

    World Cup Odds

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted throughout North America in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Host cities include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Atlanta, Boston, Miami, New York, and Philadelphia.

The odds are long that Curacao will make a deep run. FanDuel has Curacao at 1000/1 to win the Cup. A $1 bet on that unthinkable coming true would net $1,000.

  • Texas investigating USTA for possible violation of law banning biological males in women’s sports

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has opened an investigation into the U.S. Tennis Association Texas League for a possible violation of state law that prohibits biological males from competing in women’s sports.

The probe comes as Republicans nationwide push to restrict transgender participation in female athletics, arguing it’s necessary to preserve fairness and safety in competition.

“We will defeat the radical left, which is obsessed with crushing the dreams of so many girls by allowing men to compete against women in sports,” Paxton said in a statement.

Paxton’s office issued a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) to the USTA Texas League, seeking documents and policies related to transgender athlete participation. The attorney general’s office says it wants to determine whether the organization’s practices violate the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act or other consumer protection laws.

“If USTA is allowing biological males in women’s matches and misleading players about who they are competing against, my office will take all necessary action within our power to defend Texas women and girls,” he continued.

According to Paxton’s office, the CID requests details on how players are informed about “delusional men competing under the guise of calling themselves ‘transgender’ competitors.”

The USTA has sued Paxton’s office, challenging the CID and its underlying claims.

Earlier this year, Paxton sued the NCAA over its transgender eligibility policy, which allowed biological males to practice with women’s teams but not compete. He accused the association of failing to fully comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order banning biological men from competing in women’s sports.

Paxton’s aggressive legal campaign against transgender inclusion in women’s athletics has also targeted U.S. Masters Swimming and local school boards, part of a broader Republican effort to tighten enforcement of Texas’ gender-based athletic laws.

  • Hundreds line up for Thanksgiving meal provided by Tacoma, WA community

    [ad_1]

Hundreds of families packed the Tacoma Dome parking lot Thursday for a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway that organizers say grows bigger every year — and so does the need.

The event is a partnership between Coordinated Care, Tacoma Police, nonprofits and local volunteers who come together to make sure families can still afford a holiday meal.

The line started before sunrise, stretching across the lot as police officers, volunteers and even Seahawks legends loaded turkeys, canned goods and sides into cars.

    Why you should care:

For many, this drive-thru giveaway is the only way Thanksgiving is happening this year.

The sound of gratitude echoes through the makeshift drive-thru, “Happy Thanksgiving” is heard from volunteers as cars rolled forward.

Stu DeWitt was first in line — arriving just before 4:00 a.m.

“I thought I had the wrong day! I got here and I looked, and there was nobody here,” Dewitt said.

DeWitt said he heard about the giveaway online and rushed out to make sure his family had a meal. He wasted no time getting in his van and heading down to the Tacoma Dome.

    What they’re saying:

“I’m like, ‘Oh jeez, that would be great, that would really be a big answer to my problems,’” Dewitt said.

Organizers say the need has jumped significantly.

“The price of a turkey is, what, $20 bucks? So think about the $20 impact that had on a family that doesn’t had very much income coming in,” said Martha Davis with the Toy Rescue Mission in Tacoma. “That $20 can be a tank of gas to get to work, it can be a bus pass, it can be cereal and milk for the children — that’s a lot they can do with that money that they would’ve spent on the turkey and the sides were giving out here today.”

Coordinated Care, one of the main sponsors, said a total of 730 turkeys, sides and canned goods were given out. They say another round of 400 turkeys are ready to go Thursday, with another 700 expected Saturday.

“Just the smiles on faces as we’re able to help so many,” said Andrea Davis, vice president of external affairs. “We know times are tough, the shutdown is over, but many families are still making very difficult decisions… we’ve seen the need is even higher this year.”

Tacoma police officers worked alongside volunteers to move the line as quickly as possible.

“We’re giving back. This is the community that supports us day-to-day,” said Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelby Boyd.

Even Seahawks legends Marcus Trufant and Blitz showed up to help hand out meals.

“I’m excited to be here,” Trufant said. “People are struggling all the way around mentally, physically and it’s really tough if you don’t have those bare essentials food, shelter  this is just a little bit to help.”

    Local perspective:

Tacoma Police Chief Patti Jackson said events like this help rebuild trust and connection.

“They want to get to know their police agency, and we’re responding to that,” Jackson said. “We’re here to show up, and to help all these incredible individuals. It just warms my heart.”

Cars continued rolling through for about an hour and a half — no red carpet, just cold pavement and a long line of volunteers doing what they could to make the holiday brighter.

“I’m very grateful,” DeWitt said. “Now this grandfather can have time with his grandkids on Thanksgiving and not be ashamed.”

There are two more drive-thru turkey giveaways in Tacoma this weekend:

    • Saturday, Nov. 22: Eastside Community Center (1721 E 56th St), starting at 10:00 a.m.
    • Monday, Nov. 24: People’s Community Center (1602 Martin Luther King Jr. Way), starting at 6:00 p.m.

    [ad_1]

A traffic stop in Sedro-Woolley took a turn when police found several illegal items in someone’s car. The driver has since been booked into Skagit County Jail.

    Timeline:

Around 4 p.m. on Monday, officers reported stopping a pickup on the road whose driver had a third-degree suspended license. This prompted them to take the driver into police custody.

When the K9 unit, Yogi, arrived, the dog alerted law enforcement to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. This is when he was officially detained and later booked into jail.

Once inside the vehicle, responding officers say they found a tennis ball made into an explosive device, a handgun, and a “large amount of drug paraphernalia.” As a convicted felon, the driver faces charges for having a gun as well.

Sedro-Woolley Police find illegal items in the car of a man arrested Monday, Nov. 17

Bellingham Police Department assisted to safely recover the tennis ball device.

“Officers found evidence that the gun belonged to the male suspect, who is an admitted gang member from Eastern Washington. Both the driver and passenger have multiple felony convictions, including convictions for unlawful possession of firearms,” according to a statement from the Sedro-Woolley Police Department.

  • Granddaughter of ‘Charlotte’s Web’ author blasts DHS for use of book title in Charlotte immigration sweep

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The granddaughter of E.B. White, the author of the classic 1952 children’s book “Charlotte’s Web,” slammed the Trump administration on Monday for using the book’s title as an inspiration for its immigration raid in Charlotte, North Carolina, which officials are calling “Operation Charlotte’s Web.”

Martha White said her grandfather, who died in 1985, would not support the immigration sweeps in Charlotte and across the country, as she denounced the Department of Homeland Security’s reference to her grandfather’s beloved tale.

“He believed in the rule of law and due process,” Martha White, who works as her grandfather’s literary executor, said in a statement. “He certainly didn’t believe in masked men, in unmarked cars, raiding people’s homes and workplaces without IDs or summons.”

She emphasized that in “Charlotte’s Web,” the spider devoted her life on the farm to protecting a pig named Wilbur and securing his freedom.

The administration and Republican leaders have used various catchy phrases for immigration operations as they seek to carry out President Donald Trump‘s mass deportation agenda, including by naming migrant holding facilities Alligator Alcatraz in Florida, Speedway Slammer in Indiana and Cornhusker Clink in Nebraska.

Gregory Bovino, a Border Patrol official now leading the operation in Charlotte, was the face of the “Operation At Large” in Los Angeles and “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago earlier this year.

“‘Wherever the wind takes us. High, low. Near, far. East, west. North, south. We take to the breeze, we go as we please,’” Bovino quoted from “Charlotte’s Web” in a social media post on Sunday, shortly after the immigration sweep in North Carolina’s largest city began.

“This time, the breeze hit Charlotte like a storm. From border towns to the Queen City, our agents go where the mission calls,” he continued.

The immigration sweep began over the weekend, and DHS said on Monday that more than 130 migrants were arrested in two days. The agency also said nearly 1,400 detainers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement have not been honored by local authorities.

Officials in Charlotte have vowed to resist the immigration sweeps and stand up for the migrant community.

In a joint statement on Monday, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education Chair Stephanie Sneed said the raids are “causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty in our community as recent operations in other cities have resulted in people without criminal records being detained and violent protests being the result of unwarranted actions.”

“Our organizations believe that our diversity makes us stronger,” the statement reads. “And with that belief, we are unwavering in our commitment to a safe and welcoming community where everyone can grow and thrive. It is critical for all residents to feel secure in our community and know they can live their lives without being fearful while walking down the street, going to school, work or the grocery store.”

“We want people in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to know we stand with all residents who simply want to go about their lives, contributing to our larger community,” it added. “Each of our organizations have made commitments to the people we serve to protect their rights and dignity. We are committed to following the law and to protecting the rights of all people who call Charlotte and Mecklenburg County home.”

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein also stated that the operation is “stoking fear and dividing our community.”

“We’ve seen masked, heavily armed agents in paramilitary garb driving unmarked cars targeting American citizens based on their skin color, racially profiling and picking up random people in parking lots and off of our sidewalks,” Stein said in a video posted to X.

Trump has targeted Democrat-led cities for migrant sweeps as part of his mass deportation plan. His administration earlier this year reversed a Biden administration rule that prohibited raids in sensitive areas such as churches, schools and hospitals.

  • 17-year-old arrested after group smashes into The Kushery cannabis shop in Everett, WA

    [ad_1]

A teen has been arrested after he was accused of being part of a group involved in a smash-and-grab burglary at a cannabis shop in Everett.

The crime was caught on security video at a neighboring business. The group led law enforcement on a chase following the break-in.

    The backstory:

Security video shows the moment thieves smashed into The Kushery cannabis shop.

Early Sunday, two cars appeared in the video first. The driver in one of the vehicles first pushed a cement bollard out of the way, then rammed the storefront, triggering an alarm.

At one point, the group appeared to jump out of the getaway car and tried to run into the store, but there was one more secure barrier that the car had not punched through inside the store. The driver had to reset, ramming the entrance again, before the group could run into the store.

Law enforcement was on the scene, just as video showed the group jumping back into a getaway car and speeding away as they gave chase.

    What they’re saying:

Regular customer Tina Littlefield says it was disappointing to hear about the theft.

“I really support local businesses, this is a local business, so I hate to see anything bad happen,” Littlefield said.

Mill Creek Police and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office say officers and deputies pursued the group in what they now believe was a stolen Kia Optima.

The pursuit ran from the cannabis shop south to the Maltby area where law enforcement used spike strips to damage the car’s tires near 180th and SR 9. The driver eventually crashed into a ditch.

“I don’t know what possesses people to even think about doing stuff like that. It’s not something I would have ever done, even at 17,” said Littlefield.

Law enforcement said six people dressed in masks, gloves and hooded jackets ran from the car.

“My only comment was, ‘I hope they caught them and prevent them from committing further crime,’” said Littlefield.

A King County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit helped to track the group east to a large property where the 17-year-old was located and taken into custody.

“I hope that people just think things through a little more, like I said, with local businesses it’s hard enough to keep going,” said Littlefield.

Anyone with information, or who can identify the additional suspects involved, is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 425-388-3845.

  • Man shot, killed by law enforcement in Port Angeles, WA

    [ad_1]

A suspect who had a U.S. Marshals warrant was shot and killed by law enforcement officers in Port Angeles on Monday.

    The backstory:

Deputies with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, and Port Angeles Police Department responded to a neighborhood to arrest a man on a U.S. Marshals warrant for assault.

Port Angeles Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada said the suspect ran away from officers, prompting foot pursuit, during which he appeared to pull out a handgun.

After another series of events, at least one officer fired at and incapacitated the suspect. The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is now leading an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Police say there is no additional danger to the public at this time.
