  • Fans disappointed after Brandy’s abrupt exit during Chicago ‘The Boy Is Mine’ concert

    [ad_1]

Singers Brandy and Monica performed on Saturday in Chicago, as part of their “The Boy is Mine” Tour. But fans were disappointed and confused when Brandy, 46, left the United Center stage abruptly due to what seemed like technical difficulties.

    What we know:

“Give me one second y’all I gotta get my…,” the Grammy winner said and then exited the stage. Monica, 44, performed the final songs on her own, and five songs, including the title song, “The Boy Is Mine,” were not performed at all.

According to attendees, Monica closed the show, but no one seemed to understand the show was over. Lights at the arena came on and fans were encouraged to leave.

On Sunday, Brandy posted a statement on social media saying she experienced dehydration, and even though she tried to rejoin the show, technical issues wouldn’t allow her to do so.

“To my Dear Fans in Chicago,

Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and—most importantly—your prayers.

I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.

I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling ok. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, Unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.

I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support.

I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward. Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me.

I look forward to returning to the stage—stronger and more grateful than ever—alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis.

    With all my love,

    Brandy

    #TheBoyIsMineTour”

The pair is scheduled to perform in Indianapolis Sunday night, and will be back in Chicago on Oct. 25 at Wintrust Arena.

It’s been over two decades since the duo’s collaboration of the chart-topping song “The Boy Is Mine” in 1998.

    What we don’t know:

It’s unclear if refunds will be issued to ticket holders of Saturday’s event or if any reimbursement will be offered to fans.

  • 2 Chicago suspects charged after cars used to impede agents, leading to shooting

    [ad_1]

Two people are facing charges in connection with the use of cars to ram and block federal agents on Chicago’s Southwest Side on Saturday, which led to a shooting.

Federal prosecutors charged Marimar Martinez, 30, and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, 21, with forcibly assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal law enforcement officer, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Illinois.

    What we know:

Prosecutors said federal agents had conducted an operation on Saturday and Border Patrol agents acting as security detail were followed by a “convoy” of cars.

Prosecutors allege that civilian cars began to follow the agents near Oak Lawn and were driving “aggressively and erratically,” sometimes coming very close to the agents’ car, disregarding red lights and stop signs, and driving the wrong way on one-way streets.

Around 10:30 a.m., Martinez and Ruiz allegedly used their cars to hit a vehicle being driven by a Customs and Border Protection agent near the intersection of West 39th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. The car driven by Martinez side-swiped the driver’s side of the CBP car, prosecutors said.

Martinez loudly referred to Border Patrol agents as “la migra,” according to court documents, which is common Spanish slang for immigration enforcement officials.

After hitting the agent’s car, the suspects then allegedly boxed in the vehicle, which held a total of three agents at the time.

Prosecutors included multiple images of the damage they say was caused by the suspects’ vehicles.

The agents were unable to move their car and got out. One agent fired five shots at Martinez, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the accounts of events by federal agents was corroborated by body-worn camera footage.

Martinez then allegedly drove off, but paramedics found her and her car at a repair shop about a mile away near 35th Street and California Avenue. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital where she received treatment for her gunshot wounds.

Ruiz also allegedly off, but officers later found him at a gas station about half a block away.

They were both in law enforcement custody pending an initial court appearance in Chicago.

  • Illinois officials decry Trump post threatening Chicago with deportations: ‘Disgusting’

    [ad_1]

President Donald Trump on Saturday morning appeared to threaten the City of Chicago with deportations on a post on Truth Social in which he used an AI-generated parody of a war movie.

The post has already received strong criticism from at least Illinois member of Congress.

    What we know:

In the post timestamped at 10:38 a.m., Trump wrote, “’I love the smell of deportations in the morning…’

“Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

He then included an AI-generated image of him dressed in a uniform labeled “US ARMY” much like the character played by Robert Duvall in the 1979 movie “Apocalypse Now,” a fictional story about soldiers in the Vietnam War. In the image, the words “Chipocalypse Now” are also seen in the font used on the “Apocalypse Now” movie poster.

President Donald Trump on Saturday morning appeared to threaten the City of Chicago with deportations on a post on Truth Social in which he used an AI-generated parody of a war movie.

The president also mentioned the Department of War, which he recently ordered renamed from the Department of Defense.

It was still not entirely clear on Saturday exactly what plans the administration had in terms of the anticipated immigration enforcement measures it had been signaling for weeks.

Multiple Mexican Independence Day festivities planned in Chicago and surrounding suburbs were either canceled or postponed amid fears that such immigration operations could target the attendees.

    What they’re saying:

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) decried the post on Saturday during remarks before a parade in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.

“This tweet this morning was disgusting, to suggest that the troops are coming into Chicago or that the Department of War is going to be engaged is an embarrassment.”

Gov. JB Pritzker also criticized the post on X:

“The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city. This is not a joke. This is not normal. Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson also reacted to the post on social media.

“The President’s threats are beneath the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our Constitution,” Johnson wrote. “We must defend our democracy from this authoritarianism by protecting each other and protecting Chicago from Donald Trump.”
