TikTok Says Glossy Lids Are Here to Stay—20 Products to Help You Get the Look

“Glossy and vinyl eye makeup is high impact and fairly simple to achieve,” says celebrity makeup artist Courtney Hart. Hart’s celebrity clientele includes XO Kitty’s breakout star Anna Cathcart and millennial icon Hilary Duff. “It takes elements from current makeup trends we have adapted from shows like Euphoria and plays with textures reminiscent of the early 2000s. It’s a very fun, colorful, and artistic trend,” she continues. “No doubt it will continue to grow on platforms like TikTok and be seen on upcoming red carpets and editorials.”

Makeup novices and enthusiasts can rest easy knowing that creating and pulling off this makeup look is relatively easy—a win for anyone hesitant to try the Y2k-inspired trend. “Some cream and powder eye shadows are designed to look wet and reflective when applied,” begins Hart. “I always use an eye primer with these types of looks to get as much color payoff as possible.” This look can be achieved by applying an eye gloss on top of your chosen eye shadow. However, upkeep may be difficult over an extended amount of time.

She favors keeping the skin fresh and somewhat matte when creating a reflective or high-impact eye look. “The contrast of the glossy eye and soft skin allows the eye to be the star of the show,” Hart says. She also identified the products she uses to achieve the viral makeup trend, from heavily pigmented, metallic eye shadows to liquid eye shadows for a long-lasting ‘wet’ look. Keep scrolling to discover three of her favorites and her biggest tips and tricks.

Anyone who has ever tried to take a selfie (aka everyone) knows that there’s an art to it. But once you’ve figured out those key components, there is a way to get outside help, in the form of beauty products.

See, aside from the sheer je ne sais quoi of being photogenic, makeup, skincare and haircare products can sculpt features, tame flyaways, and otherwise add to your natural photo-readiness. • Dull Eye Pencils Are the Worst—We Found the Best Sharpeners With Rave Reviews

Dull Eye Pencils Are the Worst—We Found the Best Sharpeners With Rave Reviews

    [ad_1]

We’re pretty eyeliner obsessed—from the best waterproof liners to drugstore pencils, no liner goes underappreciated around here. But even the best pencils eventually go dull. And anyone who has ever ruined one of their favorites knows that when it comes to eye pencil sharpeners, there is definitely a class above the rest. Not only will a great sharpener keep your pencil pointy and precise, but it also reveals a fresh layer of product, which can help reduce the spread of bacteria.

According to celebrity makeup artist Allie Renee, a great eye pencil sharpener is an unsung hero in your tool kit. “Cosmetic pencil sharpeners are the most sanitary and efficient way to keep your products performing at their best,” she says.

So what separates the good sharpeners from the great ones? I’m glad you asked. “Because pencils come in many shapes and sizes, I like to have a sharpener with two size options,” Renee says. “A sharp blade is a must, too! I also look for something with a housing that can be removed or opened so I can clean it.”

Better yet, even prestige sharpeners tend to be fairly inexpensive. You only have to spend a few dollars for a tool that will last years and that will keep your eye, lip, and brow pencils in fighting form.

Simply put, says the makeup pro, “It’s a must-have in your beauty collection, even if you rarely ever think about it.” If you’re in need of an upgrade, keep scrolling for 10 of the very best eye pencil sharpeners, plus pencils to pair them with.

MAC Cosmetics’ Whitney Houston collection is here, and it’s chock-full of the hyper-glam, 1980s-perfect staples with which the late vocalist remains associated to this day. Marked by bold smokey eyes and bold red and metallic-brown lips, Houston’s beauty regimen was as iconic as she herself was, throughout all her decades of fame. And now that it’s shoppable in luxe gold packaging, fans can get a small piece of her cult of personality, created alongside and approved by the Whitney Houston Estate itself.
