It’s hard to imagine that an ugly Christmas sweater dress could be super cute, but somehow this snowman option from Tipsy Elves manages to do just that! We love the waist-cinching scarf, chic white sweater material and that mini length.

    Women’s Santa Sweater Dress

If Mrs. Claus is your vibe this year, we found just the dress for you. While the big white collar and black buttons are ultra-traditional, Tipsy Elves added in a mini-dress length and a sparkly belt to liven this number up.

  • This tunic might be the trendiest sweater of the season | CNN Underscored

This tunic might be the trendiest sweater of the season | CNN Underscored

    CNN
     —

Whether you live on the East Coast or the West Coast, in Florida or Minnesota, when fall rolls around, you’re ready to pack away the thin tank tops and the gauzy dresses and slip into something warmer. Cozier. Bigger.

After scrolling endlessly through Instagram, we’ve noticed fashion influencers and bloggers have collectively latched onto a sweater that satisfies all these requirements. From Free People, the oversized pullover is dubbed the Ottoman Slouchy Tunic, and it comes in a rainbow of hues, from a soft cream to a punchy bubblegum pink, that will easily transition with you as the temperatures drop.

First unveiled in 2015, the Ottoman has been rereleased each year in a slew of new colors that devotees then clamor to buy before they sell out. What’s actually so great about the sweater? Chief among its high points is its versatility. “The Ottoman Slouchy Tunic is a classic Free People piece that works with any style,” Free People senior managing director of creative Ana Hartl tells CNN Underscored. “The tunic can be paired in multiple ways, allowing for the customer to style it however she sees fit.”

    underscored-ottomantunic-white2

Among devotees, the Ottoman’s mock neck is one of several design details worth raving about. Roomy and flattering, the cut provides more coverage than a crewneck but in a way that isn’t as constraining as a standard turtleneck. Next up: It’s stretchy! Made of cotton, nylon and spandex, the tunic isn’t a limp noodle; instead, it hugs in the right places, despite its slouchy, oversized shape. Lastly, the heavy-knit ribbing lends texture, which goes a long way to camouflage any bulges you’re looking to keep under wraps, and it’s a great defense mechanism against spills and stains too.

Instagram influencers have hopped on the bandwagon too, with the likes of fashion blogger (and former Ralph Lauren buyer) Kate Brennan of The Chic Series recommending the cozy sweater to her 71,000 Instagram followers. “It’s suitable for any activity of my life,” she tells CNN Underscored, adding that she owns the tunic in six colors. “I wear it with leggings over my tank when I head to Pilates, I wear it with skinny jeans and sneakers on the sidelines of the soccer field, and if I want to dress it up I will pair it with Spanx faux leather leggings and over-the-knee boots. Also, I have sensitive skin and I’m allergic to wool, and this is one of the few winter sweaters that I have found that is cozy, comfortable and not itchy.”

Along with Brennan, fashionistas including former bachelorette and HGTV “Love It or List It Vancouver” star Jillian Harris, Texas-based blogger Bridget Barbier-Mueller and countless others have rocked the ottoman slouchy. If you want to get in on the trend, shop it at Free People for the most color options, or check it out at Nordstrom, Macy’s or Zappos. Oh, and be sure to size down, as the tunic runs big!

  • The 15 best sticky bras, according to experts and editors | CNN Underscored

The 15 best sticky bras, according to experts and editors | CNN Underscored

A bra might be the most supportive garment you own, but sometimes the straps get in the way. When it comes to plunging necklines, strapless silhouettes and backless styles, a sticky bra is your discreet savior. More invisible than strapless bras and offering more coverage and support than going braless, adhesive bras can help you feel confident in even the most daring silhouettes.

“There are so many styles of sticky bras these days that you can get away with just about any neckline,” Hollywood stylist Tracy Shapoff says. “V-neck, scoop neck, plunge and sweetheart are all fully capable of being worn, as there are great sticky options for all of these styles.” The material of the garment you’re wearing is also a factor when choosing a sticky bra. “I think sticky bras work best for backless/low-back pieces and are great for lightweight fabrics like silks where you want a very smooth finish but also need a little added lift or shaping,” shares editorial stylist Daniel Gaines.

Plus, sticky bras come in a variety of shades and sizes, so plenty of people can wear them. “There have been so many advancements in boob innovation and there is truly something for everyone, regardless of your bust size or skin tone,” explains professional stylist Ariel Tunnell. “It’s incredible and so exciting for anyone who has ever said ‘I can’t wear that because my boobs are too big!’”

While wearing stick-on undergarments might sound risky, especially if you’re in a situation where sweat is a factor, you’d be surprised at how well the best sticky bras stay put — but the pros have some tips to ensure all-day wear, too. All the stylists we consulted said that applying adhesive bras to clean dry skin is key. “Avoid using body oil or moisturizer before applying or otherwise they won’t stick or stay in place,” Tunnel advises. She and Gaines recommend cleaning the bust area with rubbing alcohol, letting it dry and then applying the adhesive cups. And for placement, Shapoff says, “Always make sure to match both sides identically so that they are even underneath clothing.”

Ahead, the stylists and Underscored editors share their favorite sticky bras and nipple covers for when you need truly invisible undergarments, and how to properly clean them for the most wears.

$47 at Shopbop or from $45 at Amazon

All the stylists we spoke to said Nubra is the best — Tunnell calls it the “gold standard of sticky bras.” She and Shapoff chose the Seamless Push-Up as their favorite, but mentioned that the brand makes several styles that are all excellent.

    From $14 at Amazon

Mitaloo Push Up Strapless Self Adhesive Bra

“This winged shape from Amazon is surprisingly effective at creating cleavage and lift,” Tunnell says. “Excellent value too!”

    $30 $24 at Amazon

    Just Behavior Strapless Sticky Bra

For more coverage, contributing editor Tobey Grumet recommends this option. The push-up style features transparent wings and it comes with a clear, removable halter strap in case you need some extra support.

    From $19 at Amazon

Niidor Adhesive Strapless Invisible Push-Up Bra

A favorite of social lead Stephanie Griffin and TikTok strategist Hannah Lauson, this sticky bra is both push-up and backless. “I’ve used it around eight times now and it’s still really sticky and lasts all night,” Lauson says.

    $65 at Amazon and Revolve

    Nubra Silicone 3D Bra

“Nubra is still the leader in my opinion,” Gaines shares. “I like the silicone ones for volume.” The backless style hooks in the middle to enhance cleavage, too.

From $30 at Amazon or $38 at Shopbop and Revolve

    Nubra Feather Lite Bra

For a lighter option, Gaines recommends Nubra’s Feather Lite Bra. “The ‘featherweight’ ones, which are made out of a light foam, are great for maximum lift because the silicone can be a little heavy if you are already working against gravity,” he explains.

From $36 at Amazon or $40 at Shopbop

Fashion Forms Voluptuous Backless Strapless Bra

Shapoff says Fashion Forms has great backless sticky bras, like this seamless sculpted style. The stylist notes the brand has a broad size range from B to H cups, but could have more shade options.

    From $14 at Amazon

    Mitaloo Sticky Push Up Bra

This style is a favorite of Grumet. The lace-up front allows you to control the push-up effect, plus it’s fully backless.

$25 at Target or $31 at Walmart

Fashion Forms Women's Amazing Adhesive Strapless Backless Bra

Griffin says she picks up this backless silicone bra whenever she goes to Target.

    $29 at Intimissimi

    Itimissimi Transparent Back Strapless Bra

“I have been a big fan of Intimissimi for many years when I discovered it while living in Italy,” Shapoff says. “The quality is always great, with a lower cost than most companies and they [often] have a special deal.” This backless sticky bra features an invisible underwire and transparent wings that add extra support.

$13 at Amazon or $15 at Ulta

    Hollywood Fashion Secrets Silicone Coverups

Tunnell says these are “truly the best in the game. They come in two sizes and four colors that disappear under clothing more seamlessly than other brands.” A clear favorite among stylists, Shapoff agrees these are among the best. “Hollywood Fashion Secrets is one of the most used brands in my styling kit,” Shapoff says.

From $26 at Amazon, Bloomingdales and Shopbop

Nippies Skin by B-Six Adhesive Nipple Covers

I traded out my full sticky cups for these smaller, lightweight nipple covers a few years ago. They are completely seamless, won’t show through tops and are a great option for smaller chest sizes. Plus, they’re washable and reusable — I’ve been using the same pair for over a year.

    $33 at Amazon and Shopbop

Nippies Skin by B-Six Lift Nipple Covers

Shapoff is also a fan of Nippies. In addition to the original version, the stylist recommends these lifting nipple covers. She also notes that the brand carries a variety of shades.

    $46 at Amazon and Shopbop

Commando Top Hats Reusable Nipple Covers

Gaines notes that finding great nipple covers can be tricky, but his go-to are these silicone adhesives (which Shapoff also likes for their convenient case). “My most used ones are the round silicone ones,” he says. “They can add a little extra roundness, but if the fabric is too thin you will see the outline of the full cover which essentially makes the visibility more prominent.”

    $2 at Temu

    Fabric Nipple Stickers, 50-Pair

Another option is to use disposable flat petal nipple covers, but again, Gaines says you’ll want to be cautious of wearing thin garments on top or else the shape might show. He recommends these lightweight fabric stickers that you can buy in bulk, or you can pick up a similar style from Amazon. In a pinch, the stylist says even a Band-Aid can work, “but make sure to pull taut when applying.”

Like other undergarments, you’ll want to be delicate when caring for your sticky bras. “The best way to wash a sticky bra is to create a soapy solution using a very mild fabric detergent or specialty bra soap and give it a careful [hand] wash and rinse,” says Tunnell. “Leave it out to dry and it will be newly sticky and ready for another wear!”

And in between wears, Shapoff recommends keeping the cups in their original packaging. “I like to also stick the plastic [film] back to each cup as an extra layer of protection,” the stylist says. “Always keep your sticky bras in a secured container when not wearing them.”

    $20 at Amazon

    The Laundress Delicate Wash

A gentle laundry detergent, like the kind made for washing undergarments, can effectively clean your sticky bras without deteriorating the adhesive.

    $9 at Nubra

    Nubra Nu Wash

Stylist-favorite Nubra makes a cleanser specifically for its adhesive bras, so you know you can get the most out of their sticking power.

  • The 22 best clogs for fall, according to fashion experts | CNN Underscored

The 22 best clogs for fall, according to fashion experts | CNN Underscored

There are few shoe choices that are as divisive as clogs. Like the Birkenstocks and Ugg boots that came before them, the similarly controversial shoe trend is back for fall 2022. Dries Van Noten, Celine and Hermès all showed clogs on their respective fall/winter 2022 runways, and like most fashion trends, they’ve already trickled down to stores — and celebrities, editors and influencers alike can’t stop wearing them. It makes sense. While the best clogs for fall may seem hard to style, the right style is really just a great, fashion-forward stand-in for sneakers. (Even more, they’re just as comfortable.)

Content creator and brand consultant Kellie Brown is a huge proponent of the trend, as she’s been known to pair clogs with everything from a knit cut-out dress to jeans and a tee. “I say style everything however you feel like it,” she says. “I’m into the unserious juxtaposition of a summery dress gaining a life extension via corky layers, clogs with cozy socks, a baseball hat and an overly fancy, chic tiny purse.”

She’s not the only one getting in on the trend. Ahead, the best clogs to shop for fall and beyond.

    $425 at Shopbop and Ssense

“I’m a sucker for anything Ganni does,” says Abby Price, founder of NYC pop-up-turned-brick-and-mortar store Abbode. “I love how these have the classic wood heel, but the silver adds an elevated detail to easily take them from work to dinner out.”

    $145 at Aerosoles

    Aerosoles Violetta Clog

Brown loves a clogs-with-socks moment — and these slingback clogs are perfect for it.

    $80 at Amazon and Ugg

    Ugg Tasman X Waterproof Clog

    $140 at Zappos and Birkenstock

    Birkenstock Boston Oiled Leather Clogs

The ultra-comfortable Birkenstock Bostons are a classic for a reason. Pair the genderless style with leggings or jeans and a cozy sweater and you have your fall uniform sorted.

    $430 at Ssense

    Marge Sherwood Black 70s Clogs

Marge Sherwood already makes some of this season’s trendiest styles, but this clog is a must-have for fall.

    $150 at Nordstrom and Revolve

    Dolce Vita Camdin Heels

Dolce Vita’s Camdin clog has a wood-block heel for an extra-chunky look.

From $15 at Amazon or from $38 at Crocs

    Crocs Classic Platform Clog

A lifted version of the brand’s classic style. We think Crocs are some of the most comfortable clogs out there, especially for travel.

    $690 at Shopbop

    Isabel Marant Suede Flats

Another favorite of Price’s, this green clog is one fall’s trendiest hues. “I love a take on the classic Birkenstock, and think a fun colored shoe is a necessity,” says Price.

    $57 at Amazon

World of Clogs AM100 Swedish Wooden Clogs

The classic style from Swedish brand World of Clogs would look great with bootcut jeans.

    $555 at Nordstrom

    Simon Miller Bubble Clog

“The bubble clogs from Simon Miller have to be my favorites right now because they’re a unique take on the traditional clog,” says content creator Stephanie Arant.

    $100 at Asos

Asos Design Mia Leather Clog Mules

Extra-large studs make this pair extra ‘90s-inspired.

    $120 at Ugg

    Ugg Fuzz Sugar Clog

A part of Ugg’s environmentally friendly line, these fuzzy clogs are made with Tencel Lyocell recycled fibers that mimic the plush shearling Ugg is known for, as well as soles made with renewable sugarcane and recycled rubber.

    $402 $281 at Farfetch

    Clergerie Round Toe Clog

“My favorite clogs are the Mia Clogs by Clergerie,” says content creator Megan Adelaide of the now-sold-out style. “I love them for many reasons but mainly because they’re not your average clog — they’re conversation starters.” They may not be available anymore, but the sister style is just as chic — and currently 30% off.

$120 at Nordstrom, Shopbop and Bloomingdales

    Sam Edelman Kaye Clog

A closed-toe clog with horse bit detail like this one from Sam Edelman is a chic, affordable option.

    $295 at Ba&sh

    $219 at Nordstrom and Bloomingdales

White clogs are never not a statement shoe. But if that’s not your jam, they also come in a retro orange, bright blue or classic black.

    $150 at Nepenthes NY

Needles x Troentorp Collaboration Model Clogs

A recommendation from stylist Jon Tietz, these brown sole clogs are made in Sweden — not too far off from the shoe’s Dutch roots.

$100 at Birkenstock or $105 at Ssense

    Birkenstock A630

“These are my favorites currently,” says Tietz of the chunky lug-sole style.

    $130 at Amazon and Dansko

    Dansko Karl Antique Brown/Black Sole

These Dansko styles — a recommendation from Tietz — are a classic. (Anyone that’s ever worked in a restaurant can vouch for their comfort.)

    $80 at Birkenstock and Zappos

    Birkenstock Super-Birki Clogs

Another classic (and another one of Tietz’s favorites), this pair comes in a breadth of fun colors.

$100 at Bloomingdales, Zappos and Ugg

    Ugg Classic Slip-On

For around the house or running errands, these shearling-lined clogs are simple and comfy.

  • Allbirds’ new Mizzle releases are perfect for wet winter walks | CNN Underscored

Allbirds’ new Mizzle releases are perfect for wet winter walks | CNN Underscored

Allbirds’ sustainable shoes, whether you go for the wool version or eucalyptus, are made to be worn for leisure or working out, rain or sunshine. Its latest drop, officially out to shop today, is a trio of new Mizzle performance shoes made for all the grossness this season showers us with.

The new shoes are all made to get wet — and to keep you warm, dry and ventilated while you put in the miles on damp streets and soggy trails. Colorways are vibrant and cheerful; think bright teals, pinks, and more. Each style is made in both a men’s fit and a women’s fit, and they’re purpose-designed for trail-running or city streets, as you prefer.

Here’s the breakdown of the new styles:

Perfect for slippery runs, these super-tractioned running shoes are made for city streets and outdoor tracks. The PuddleGuard technology woven into these is ideal for keeping feet dry and cozy step after step.

These booties go a little higher than regular sneakers, making them a great pick if you want to protect your ankles against the cold and puddles, too.

Made with a bio-based SwiftFoam midsole, these shoes are made for distance running in less-than-perfect conditions.

Great for slippery leaf-strewn trails and outfitted with great grip and cushioning, the SWT Mizzles are all about performance for the toughest runs.

The big deal here is that these shoes are waterproof not because they’ve been doused in chemicals, but because the wool the shoes are made from naturally makes it so. Waterproofing agents are pretty terrible for the environment too, so there’s some bonus eco-cred to be had here. All in all, these are a win-win for your feet, the environment and your brand-new PR.

  • The essentials list: Fashion icon Jenna Lyons on her style and beauty staples | CNN Underscored

The essentials list: Fashion icon Jenna Lyons on her style and beauty staples | CNN Underscored

Jenna Lyons is a force in the fashion world. The designer and creative dynamo, celebrated for turning J.Crew into one of the most coveted brands in the country, is equally lauded for her own signature style. Classic with a twist, offset with a bold red lip. Now out on her own, Lyons has infiltrated the beauty world with the launch of her own lash brand, LoveSeen, just unveiled a lipstick collection in collaboration with Beauty Pie and stepped in front of the camera to let us in on her style secrets on her new HBO show, “Stylish with Jenna Lyons.” Most recently, she was announced as part of season 14 of the Bravo show “Real Housewives of New York.”

CNN Underscored spoke with Lyons to get the scoop on her fashion and beauty essentials.

    A red lipstick

“I never leave the house without a red lip. I just did a lipstick collaboration with Marcia Kilgore of Beauty Pie. There are eight shades and mine is ‘Jenna’ our orange-red. We called the collection Unlipstick because it’s unlike any other lipstick out there. It’s so sheer and so conditioning when it first goes on and it genuinely does build in intensity with more layers, but not in an old-fashioned loaded-up lippy way. The lipsticks have an understated blotted finish, so they look really modern and you can keep things soft and blurry or use a lip liner to make it a bit more precise.”

    The best lipsticks we’ve tested

    Classic shirt

“The thing I buy on repeat that I’m a little obsessive about is button-down shirts. I’m a really weird size, my arms are really long, I’m kind of like a monkey and I’m a little narrow through the waist. So once a year I go to Ascot Chang and have my shirts made — it’s the best thing ever. They ask you to make four shirts at a time, so I always do two white, a blue and a stripe. I do an end-on-end blue, broad cross stripe and the 300 singles white, which is very fancy, but I love it.”

    Phone wallet case

“It’s funny, but I don’t carry a bag anymore. My favorite is my Amazon phone case wallet. It has my credit cards and my keys, and it’s changed my life, honestly. Do you know how many times I got locked out? I had keys all over the city with all my friends because I was constantly locking myself out. Then I got a strap from Chaos Club [similar to this one on Amazon], so this is my new bag.”

    Vintage jeans

“I’m also a very obsessive vintage jeans shopper. Vintage Levi’s are all I own; I don’t participate in stretch ones. I just only buy old men’s ones in any color, as I’m tall so they fit better.”

    Fake lashes

“I don’t have natural lashes, which is what inspired me to create my own brand of eyelashes, LoveSeen, as there wasn’t anything out there I could really wear. I do love wearing them; it’s one of those things where I’ve started to do it more and more. My favorites are definitely Noor, Iris and Cate. Ironically, mascara is the No. 1 purchased product in the United States in all of beauty, but because I don’t have any eyelashes, that’s not even on the table for me.”

    Signature scent

“I also never leave the house without perfume. My perfume is Creed Silver Mountain Water; I’ve been wearing it forever. I’ve tried to change, but my son won’t let me. I think it was the first scent I ever wore and every time I’d hug someone they were like, ‘Ooh, you smell so good,’ and somehow this has become a thing. My son used to spray it on his blanket when he was little.”

Our editors’ favorite perfumes and scents

    A face scrub

“My skin care essential is Beauty Pie Wonderscrub. I’m an avid exfoliator. I’m getting old, so if I don’t exfoliate, my skin looks dull. So I do it all the time — face and my entire body. It makes an immediate difference.”

The best facial cleansers, according to experts

    Aviator sunglasses

“My glasses are DITA. I did a collab with them, as I’ve worn their glasses for a while and they are great. I have the Flight 009 aviator style.”

    • CNN Underscored’s favorite sunglasses for men and women

    Shoes, glorious shoes

“I’m not the most loyal shoe person. I love, love, love the Nike x Sacai collab. I have almost all of the sneakers in every color. If you look in my closet you’d see a lot of old Celine and Birkenstocks. They are shearling, they are leather, they are suede, they are plastic. They are in my car, under the bed, at the beach, they are everywhere.”

18 of the most comfortable sneakers for walking

    Cute swimsuits

“I have a house in Amagansett and I do love to garden. I’m a Californian girl, so I usually do this wearing my swimsuit — I can’t help myself. I love Left on Friday, I have a bikini and they are so cute. And Dos Gardenias, they do the hottest one-pieces, they are double layered, so they hold it all in.”

37 Spirit Halloween costumes and decorations we can’t get enough of this year | CNN Underscored

    CNN
     —

Spirit Halloween is the Halloween superstore. Whether you’re looking for the hottest new costume, the scariest animatronic figures or lights to illuminate a pathway, Spirit Halloween has it all.

But with an inventory that massive, treasures are easy to miss. So we combed through the entire store, leaving no (grave)stone unturned, to find the spookiest, creepiest and downright scariest things at Spirit Halloween, from costumes and makeup to lighting and decorations. Check out more indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations here.

Spirit Halloween introduced a new suite of Monster High costumes for 2022, including Draculaura. The costume kit includes a dress, necklace, boot covers and lace cuffs.

Adult Top Gun Maverick Jumpsuit Costume Deluxe

“Top Gun” costumes are perennial favorites, but with the release of “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022, there’s sure to be a big revival of Maverick, Goose and Charlie costumes this year. Spirit Halloween has the officially licensed “Top Gun” costume, which comes with a flight suit and cap.

Adult Mirabel Dress Costume - Disney Encanto

Another new option for 2022 are Spirit Halloween’s “Encanto” costumes. In addition to the Mirabel costume for adults, there are versions for kids and for toddlers, as well as Bruno costumes for kids and adults.

Adult Sam Costume - Trick ‘r Treat

The Sam costume is one of Spirit Halloween’s creepiest new looks for 2022. The officially licensed Sam costume features a one-piece jumpsuit and a hooded mask; a burlap trick-or-treat sack is sold separately.

Adult Eleven Dress Costume - Stranger Things

Spirit Halloween has loads of costumes from your favorite binge-worthy TV show. Big “Stranger Things” fan? You’ll want to know about this Eleven dress costume. If Eleven isn’t your vibe, check out all the “Stranger Things” costume options that Spirit Halloween has to offer.

Rip Wheeler Costume Kit - Yellowstone

“Yellowstone” is a massive hit with a massively devoted following. If you want to get in touch with your inner Rip this Halloween — and who wouldn’t?!? — this Rip Wheeler costume kit is for you. If you identify more as a Kayce than a Rip, there are more “Yellowstone” costumes to choose from.

Adult Ted Lasso Track Suit Costume

This Ted Lasso is another new TV-inspired costume idea for Halloween 2022. Want to make it a group costume? There’s a full line of Ted Lasso costumes to choose from.

Adult Flamin' Hot Cheetos Bag Costume

The Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Bag costume takes everyone’s favorite super-spicy snack and turns it into a dashing outfit. Spirit Halloween has a whole section devoted to Cheetos, which the snack enthusiast in your life will want to know about.

Adult Chicken Rings Costume - White Castle

If Cheetos aren’t your bag, Spirit Halloween has plenty of other food options, including officially licensed White Castle costumes. You can choose from these delicious-looking chicken rings, or go for a classic slider. Or order both and make your couples costume a combo deal meal!

Baby Faux Fur Lil' Raccoon Costume

Spirit Halloween isn’t just for adults; it also offers loads of infant, toddler and kids’ costumes. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this Lil’ Racoon costume for babies is so cute we could melt.

    Kids Peacock Costume

It’s a little on the pricey side, to be sure, but this kids’ peacock costume is beautiful. The set comes with a dress, feathered back piece and headband; the back piece attaches to the dress with Velcro strip, allowing you to remove it if it becomes annoying or irritating to your little peacock.

    Adult Scooby Doo Union Suit

Pajama costumes solve two major Halloween costume problems: They are comfortable, and they are warm. If you’re over spending the entire night hobbling around in painful high heels or adjusting a heavy, bulky costume, a onesie-style costume will be a welcome relief. And if you know you’ll be outdoors in the cold, these PJ costumes like this Scooby Doo union suit will keep you from catching a chill.

See Spirit Halloween’s entire collection of pajama costumes.

    Adult Box Of Wine Costume

The wine lover in your life needs to know about this box of wine costume. Why? Because it is an absolutely hilarious costume, and that’s more than enough to make it one of the best things we found at Spirit Halloween!

    Vampire Nails

There are plenty of ways to show your Halloween spirit without sporting a full costume. Press-on nails, which have come a long way since the ’80s, are a great way to add a bit of spooky flair to your look.

    Black Spider Lace Hand Chain

    Black Spider Lace Hand Chain

Accessories for the hands don’t just stop at fanciful nails — hand chains are a striking way to gussy up your paws. We love the high gothic vibe of this Victorian-inspired hand chain designed to look like a spiderweb.

    Sequin Pineapple Bra

Macabre motifs aren’t the only way to go on Halloween, of course — there are loads of brightly colored, high-spirited costumes and accessories to choose from. We love the pizzazz of this sequined pineapple bra, with its exuberant fronds flocking the shoulders, so much that we would consider wearing it for a day at the beach!

    Adult Unicorn Poncho

Hooded ponchos are a great way to show your Halloween spirit without going full dress-up. They’re also a great choice for the person who’s on trick-or-treat duty because they’re easy to slip on over street clothes for an instant costume, and they’ll keep you warm when you open the front door to greet little witches and goblins.

    Avocado Hat

Look, this avocado hat is just plain funny, and that’s good enough for us!

    Roman Bendable Snake Headband

    Roman Bendable Snake Headband

Fanciful headwear is honestly irresistible at any time of the year, but Halloween provides the perfect excuse to invest in some ornamentation for your luscious locks. The best part about this Roman snake headband is that when you’re not sporting it to complete a toga ensemble, you can put it on to freak out the ophidiophobic person in your life.

    6-Foot Lord Raven Animatronic

Spirit Halloween has a bunch of new animatronic Halloween decorations for 2022, including this 6-foot Lord Raven, which is perfect for the person who really, really hates their neighbors and wants to ensure they do not sleep a wink for the entire month of October!

    6-Foot Bog Zombie Animatronic

Another new animatronic offering from Spirit Halloween is this 6-foot Bog Zombie, featuring yellow LED light-up eyes and a moving mouth that emits zombie moans and swamp noises.

    3-Foot Bag O’ Bones Animatronic

If you’re looking for something a little smaller — and a little friendlier! — this 3-foot animatronic skeleton pops out of the burlap sack he was abandoned in.

    6.5-Foot Bloody Shredded Fabric

This bloody shredded fabric piece is a great way to add instant spookiness to a doorway, window or tablescape. And at under $10, it’s also a budget-friendly option to add a bit of Halloween spirit to your home without breaking the bank.

    The Haunted Mansion Doormat

Doormats are another option for adding some Halloween flair to your home without a lot of money or effort. This year, Spirit Hallowen has a suite of Disney’s Haunted Mansion decor, including this “Our Tour Begins Here” doormat.

    Evil Pumpkins Single Door Cover

Transform your garage door with Spirit Halloween’s Evil Pumpkin Single Door Cover. The menacing evil pumpkins design is printed on durable material that’s easy to set up, and that allows the garage door to remain fully functional while the door cover is attached.

Reaper Graveyard Garage Double Door Cover

For a different look, this garage door cover mimics the look of a spooky graveyard by the light of the full moon.

    5-Foot Body Bag Prop

    5-Foot Body Bag Prop

Okay real talk: This body bag prop is so realistic looking that you probably won’t want to put it outdoors, because you will end up with ceaseless visits from law enforcement checking on the call they got about a discarded body on your lawn.

    Fogging Skull Pile

This fogging skull pile is basically four effects in one. You’ve got the pile of skulls, the lights that illuminate the eye sockets, haunting sounds that emit from the skulls and, of course, the fog. Oh? You’d like your fog to be scented? Well, sure, Spirit Halloween has got you covered: Would you prefer the Mildew Fog Scent ($4.99) or the Pumpkin Spice Fog Scent ($4.99)?

    10-Foot Light-Up Green Spiderweb

A giant glowing spiderweb is perfect for people who love the look of exterior holiday lights but don’t want all the work that goes with stringing them up.

Whirl-A-Motion LED Green Spiders Projection Spot Light

If you’re going to go big and install a giant cobweb over your entryway, why not go even bigger and project a clutter of spiders onto the front of the house too? This LED projector will cast green spiders on any surface, and is designed for both indoor or outdoor use.

    LED Creepy Lantern Pathway Markers

Illuminated pathway markers aren’t just decorative — they also serve an important function by adding more light to create a safer walkway for ghosts and goblins of all ages. This set of three purple and black lanterns features a spiderweb and spider motif that will light up your walkway in the spookiest fashion.

    Mystic Arts Crystal Trinket Dish

Turn small spaces into your home into Halloween hidey-holes by adding mystical touches to your decor. This geode crystal-effect trinket dish can be used on a tablescape or in a powder room to hold a bar of guest soap.

The Haunted Mansion Candle Holders 3 Pack

The Haunted Mansion Candle Holders 3 Pack

Votive candle holders are another way to add a big splash of Halloween flair to a small space. If you’ll be lighting up the votives in a space that will be largely unattended, like a guest bathroom, opt for flameless votive candles rather than the wax version to prevent a fire.

    Ouija Board Party Pack

This ouija board party set includes two sets of premium paper plates, two sets of paper napkins and a set of premium paper cups featuring the unmistakable Ouija board motif. These are perfect for a casual Halloween gathering at home or for wrapping up homemade treats to share with friends and family.

    Damask Gothic Noir Pillar Candle

    Damask Gothic Noir Pillar Candle

To be honest, more than a few of us would display this luxe-looking black-and-red gothic-style pillar candle year-round. These are a great addition to a spooky mantlepiece display or to light up a Halloween-themed dinner party table.

    6 Ft. Grim Animatronic

It’s not the most expensive animatronic item Spirit Halloween offers, but this 6-foot skeleton takes the giant skeleton trend up a notch by adding movement and sound to the pile of bones.

    6.2-Foot Harvester of Souls Animatronic

This attention-seeking monster has a message for lost children, “Look at me, just as all the others have. Now that I have you, your soul will be mine … FOREVER …*creepy laugh*” so if your goal this Halloween is to terrify the neighborhood, look no further!

The essentials list: Actress and founder of The Honest Company Jessica Alba shares her beauty and style must-haves | CNN Underscored

Jessica Alba is an actress, mom of three and mega-successful entrepreneur. After growing up in Hollywood as a teen star, Alba came to be a style and beauty inspiration. Today, her influence is still apparent in the success of The Honest Company, which she founded in 2011 to bring safe, nontoxic diapers and baby wipes to the market — and is now worth an estimated $550 million. Featuring products across beauty, baby, home, cleaning, health and wellness collections, Alba continues to be a resource and role model for women who lead lives as busy as her own.

And, if Alba’s skin is anything to go by, we’ll have what she’s having. Here, she shares with CNN Underscored her style, beauty and wellness favorites.

    Oversized button-up shirt

“When it comes to my style, it’s important for me to be comfortable. I gravitate towards more timeless and classic silhouettes versus trendy pieces. I have been wearing a lot of oversized button-up shirts lately. The Frankie Shop and Toteme are go-tos.”

    Favorite denims

“I pair my shirts with trousers or jeans. As a busy mom of three, I live in jeans and tees. My favorite denim is Levi’s; I like the 501 style. For trousers I love Dissh (it’s classic and affordable) as well as Joseph, Wardrobe NYC and Marni. I tend to purchase high-quality, elevated basics that I can re-wear season after season.”

    Everday bag

“My current go-to bag is this sling style by Cuyana. It’s simple and classic, and I love that it is made from upcycled 100% Global Recycle Standard-certified landfill plastic.”

    Signature scent

“I love Sana Jardin Paris Vanilla Nomad. It’s a beautiful scent that feels feminine and grounding. It’s earthy yet sweet and soft at the same time.”

    Skin care staples

“For me, clean skin is the foundation, so I start my daily routine with a gentle gel cleanser infused with chamomile and calendula extracts to calm and refresh without overdrying. Next, I apply our Vitamin C Radiance Serum to give my skin that lit-from-within glow and follow with our Hydrogel Cream. This incredible moisturizer contains two sizes of hyaluronic acid to help retain moisture in the different layers of the skin. If my skin needs a little extra love, our Beauty Calm + Heal Melting Balm is my secret weapon for staying moisturized even in the coldest weather, as it has allantoin to relieve chapped skin and our signature Calming Phyto-Blend to calm sensitivity and support the skin’s healthy barrier.”

    Wellness ritual

“I have been very into journaling lately; it provides an outlet to look inward, and putting pen to paper to capture my thoughts has been very helpful. I like the Ariana Ost Intention Journal. This father-daughter duo makes the most beautiful pieces centered around crystal healing. In addition to journaling, I use the Aura Balancing Small Flower of Life Healing Crystal Grid to activate my intentions and generate positivity — it also serves as cute home decor.”

    Makeup must-haves

“I always use our Fresh Flex Concealer as my base. It has medium, buildable coverage, so I can control how much I want. I like to contour using one that is a couple of shades darker than my true skin tone. The formula is extremely flexible and blends seamlessly into my skin, and like almost all of our makeup, it has skin-loving benefits like vitamins B3 and E, hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin and shea butter for skin health and wellness. To accentuate my eyes, I use our Extreme Volume Mascara + Bold Lash Primer. This game-changing primer has three sizes of fibers, and the blue pigment delivers instant drama to give me a falsie look. I keep my lips smooth and hydrated with our Gloss-C Lip Gloss in Moonstone. It’s a gloss and a lip treatment in one and packed with vitamin C. I also always carry a Tinted Lip Balm with me. Right now I’m loving the berry shade, Plum Drop. One swipe gives me the perfect wash of nourishing color.”

    Bedtime routine

“I love to end my day by lighting a candle and winding down with a relaxing bubble bath. Honest x Musee Calm + Clarify Bath Fizz is a clean, mineral-infused bath fizz made in partnership with Musee, an incredible organization that gives back to the community by hiring women and people in recovery.”

    Clevr Frother for Perfect Prep

As many of us learned during the Dalgona coffee craze, a milk frother is such a simple tool that can make your morning coffee so much more satisfying and tasty. I love how easy this one is to clean, store and charge. I usually go for a normal cup of joe topped with almond milk foam, and this little whisk whips it up into a beautiful fluffy froth every time. I kept seeing H&M home products, so while I was redecorating my apartment I picked up a few items like this little tray, some vases and curtains. This is one of my favorites because it’s so cute and small but fits all of my jewelry. Everything from H&M Home is also really affordable, so I highly recommend it! — Hannah Lauson, TikTok strategist

    From $16 at Parade

Double Strap Micro Crop Cami and FreeFlex High Rise Brief

Parade has become my go-to loungewear and lingerie brand. You’ve probably seen some cool kids on your Instagram wearing their pieces. The fabrics are so, so soft (and sustainable) and they have new colorways and drops to browse all the time. While their underwear is just as cute and comfy, it’s their loungewear that I really love. They have a bunch of mix and match options that are great for your base layer or just wearing at home. The Double Strap Micro Crop Cami and FreeFlex High Rise Brief are a couple of my latest and favorite Parade purchases. — Sophie Shaw, associate beauty editor

    $150 at Hillhouse

Hillhouse The Crepe Ellie Nap Dress

Nap dresses have been all over my Instagram Explore page for years and I finally caved — then proceeded to yell at myself for not buying one sooner. I, of course, went with the OG of nap dresses and bought myself a Hill House Home Ellie Nap Dress and it was a summer staple. I’m also toying with the idea of throwing a turtleneck under it to wear into fall. — Lindsey Smith, associate editor

    From $120 $79.99 at Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch Strappy Plunge Corset Maxi Dress

Before this little black dress went viral on the stunning Gym Tan (who I’ve followed since her early days on TikTok), Olivia McDowell’s show-and-tell video showed up on my For You Page and it was all that was needed to convince me to immediately order it from my phone. It’s the perfect balance of dressy and casual, and the lightweight poplin still looks breezy even in black. I was thrilled that it’s available in petite sizes since finding a maxi dress as a 5-foot-2-inch person can be challenging. The Size Small/Petite goes all the way to my ankles so I’d like to get it hemmed a couple inches for a more cropped look, but I’m glad I can still wear it for now without it dragging on the ground. The first time I wore it out to an event for work, I got tons of compliments and yes, a couple people stopped to ask me if I was wearing “the Abercrombie dress.” While it’s often sold out, it comes in a few other colorways that I’m sure are just as cute. — Sophie Shaw, associate beauty editor

    $48 at Terrelique

    Terrelique Relaxation Slippers

I’ve raved about Terrelique slippers before, and I’m still just as obsessed with them. The bright colors caught my eye on my Explore Page and since I have a “no shoes” policy at my apartment I was so happy to find cute slides to wear. They’re recycled and fully recyclable and are also ethically made. There are a lot of dupes out there, but the real thing is worth it. — Lindsey Smith, associate editor

    $59 at Sheertex

    Sheertex Classic Sheer Rip-Resistant Tights

Tights are a fall and winter staple, but every year I found myself having to buy multiple new pairs because of the inevitable rips and runs that would appear — until I tried Sheertex’s rip-resistant tights. The Instagram ads of the tights being pulled at and poked with scissors — and never tearing! — convinced me to give them a try. I have both the classic and the Shaping tights, and they both look and feel great. Two years later, and I’ve never had so much as a snag appear. They are a bit pricey, but they’ll last you (hopefully) forever. — Sophie Shaw, associate beauty editor

$40 at Charlotte Tilbury and Sephora

    Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand

Six months, a 50,000-person waitlist (and probably a prayer or two) later, I finally got my hands on Madison Beer’s can’t-live-without beauty product — the Beauty Light Wand — and I can confirm it’s well worth the wait. This shimmering rosy pink highlighter-blush hybrid is incredibly easy to use, packed with pigment, blends perfectly into the skin and can be built up to make more of a statement, which is what myself, Madison and pretty all of TikTok does to really give you that lit-from-within glow. Mercury Retrograde must really be lifting because currently, the product is in stock and you can buy up to five at a time! Don’t walk, run!!! — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

    $13.99 at Target

    Megababe Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant

I could barely go a day without seeing the MegaBabe Rosy Pits deodorant in videos. After users swore by it and the incredible scent I caved and bought it. I was already a huge fan of the brand’s Thigh Rescue so it’s no surprise I ended up loving this too. The Rosy Pits candle is next on my list. — Lindsey Smith, associate editor

    From $20 at Kov Essentials

    Kov Essentials Daily Clip

Claw clips are such a cute trend, but it’s always been difficult for me to find ones that can actually keep my very long and thick hair up all day. I saw one of Kov’s videos on TikTok and was influenced to give it a try. Their large clip is literally the only claw clip I’ve tried that keeps my hair up, and they even have an XL for even thicker and more textured hair. Kov’s clips, which come in four sizes, are super durable and even have a six-month warranty in case your does break. I’ve had mine for a year now and it hasn’t let me (or my hair) down. — Sophie Shaw, associate beauty editor

Black Girl Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Let’s be honest — and our TikTok sunscreen tests prove it every time — not all sunscreens are made with people of color in mind. When I found out through an Instagram ad that Black Girl Sunscreen exists, I was super excited to try for myself! I’ve tested the Broad Spectrum on my body and the Make It Matte sunscreen for the face, and it’s so nice to know that I can protect my skin without looking like chalk. I use this sunscreen every day, whether I’m inside or outside my apartment, and I’ve even convinced my dad to give it a try. — Sarai Thompson, social coordinator

    Ouai Detox Shampoo

I’ve been seeing a ton of people on my FYP raving about clarifying shampoos to remove product build up from your hair, so I did a little research and found that many people loved this one. I use it once every two to three weeks and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my hair since I started about three months ago! — Hannah Lauson, TikTok strategist

Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro Light Mask

Beloved by TikTokers and celebrities like Jimmy Fallon and Charlotte McKinney, I regret to inform you that this viral LED mask (which I was 100% influenced to try) is absolutely worth the hype. Aside from the steep price tag and petrifying my pup every time I use it, there is pretty much nothing I dislike about this product after owning it for over a year. It uses 162 LED lights over your entire face to target both wrinkles and breakouts, works in just three minutes, is FDA-cleared, comes with a detachable head strap and storage bag and, best of all, actually works. As someone who is acne-prone, I use it consistently every single night and have noticed a major improvement in my uneven complexion and acne scarring, and have even experienced less breakouts. This is your sign to treat yourself! — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

    $30 at Amazon and Sephora

    Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil

I’ve repurchased this bottle three to four times now and it’s my favorite hair care product. It’s the only thing that I’ve been able to find that tames my frizzy hair and keeps it hydrated all day. Plus, a little goes a long way so each bottle lasts me a couple of months. — Hannah Lauson, TikTok strategist

    $58 at Amazon and Credo

    Mara Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil

I am a skin care enthusiast in pursuit of glazed donut skin so naturally, I turn to Hailey Bieber for pretty much everything product-related. Recently on her YouTube channel, she raved about the Mara Beauty cleansing oil in her nighttime routine (that has over 2 million views) and I added it to my cart faster than I’ve ever done anything in my life. After just one use, it truly blew me away; it’s a makeup-dissolving cleanser-meets-mask and is a velvety soft, gentle formula that includes a mix of algae extract, jojoba, chia, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit and pumpkin enzymes. It melts away makeup in seconds and after cleansing twice — because that’s what Hailey does! — my sensitive skin is left soft, supple and clear. The true testament, though, is how glowy and hydrated my skin looks and feels the next morning. — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

  • The best work bags, according to people who go into an office every day | CNN Underscored

The best work bags, according to people who go into an office every day | CNN Underscored

Picking out a new outfit for work every day can be quite the headache, but if there’s one thing that makes our mornings easier, it’s a trusty work bag that stands up to long commutes, meetings, mountains of paperwork and more. From stylish work bags you can take from the boardroom to the bar to functional work bags that keep all your documents (and meal-prepped lunches) safe and secure, there’s no shortage of work bag options on the market that’ll actually make getting — and being — at your day job that much more of a breeze. We spoke to folks who go into the office every day about their favorite work bags from top brands like Beis, Cuyana, Frank & Oak and Ted Baker, and you can shop them all right here.

Don’t sleep on backpacks that get you to and back from work pain-free. “I love that it’s versatile … and easy to clean so if anything spills it’s easy to wipe off,” says Margaret Simonelli, a clinical counselor. “As an added bonus, it has a cup holder for that morning brew.”

“I was lost in the internet world of totes and crossbodies when I finally found this perfect tote,” says Rachel Lubitz, Underscored senior lifestyle editor. “Made of supple textured leather and featuring two straps, a snap closure and plenty of room for my laptop and essentials but not the entire kitchen sink too, it’s been a dream to carry these past few weeks. It feels elevated and a little fancy without screaming that you spent too much, and I just love the bright color coral too.”

The Louis Vuitton Neverfull might be out of budget for most, but given how “the LV Neverfull is the best,” says Ashley Mosseri, a podiatrist, it may just be worth the splurge. “It can fit everything, including my laptop, so the name is very appropriate, and it’s super sturdy and doesn’t get dirty. It comes with a little pochette inside and I wear it to travel too. It’s expensive and I got it as a gift, but it’s amazing. Definitely worth it.”

Work bags with functionality are a must, but bonus points for a playful design. “This Ted Baker lunch bag is my ultimate go-to for work,” says Roxanne Stein, an administrative/executive assistant. “I use it daily as a lunch bag and as my carryall. It’s spacious for a smaller bag and it’s easy to clean because of its material, but it’s also really, really pretty.”

“It’s surprisingly difficult to find a work bag that 1) fits a laptop, 2) has a zip top and 3) can be worn crossbody, but Cuyana has managed to nail all three requirements with its newly released Easy Zipper Tote,” says Chelsea Stone, Underscored senior editor. “And on top of all that, the bag comes in three sizes, the leather is super smooth and you can choose from a range of great colors. I opted for the small, and it still fits my computer and wallet and water bottle and more.”

Whether in the office or an overnight trip with your colleagues, this professional bag makes for the perfect plus-one. “I love my Beis Convertible Mini Weekender bag for work trips,” says Rachel Rappaport, a senior consultant. “It’s a perfect carry-on size and easily doubles as a purse. I love the zip-off compartment on the bottom to stash my work pumps, plus the wire frame opening makes it easy to see exactly what you’ve got packed. My little secret: For bigger trips, I just zip off the bottom and carry it on board as my purse. It’s the perfect ‘personal item’ size for most airlines.”

“I live in a small apartment in Boston, so everything in my closet needs to be able to do double, triple, quadruple duty,” says Todd Plummer, a writer and avid traveler. “This tote comes with a durable crossbody strap and is just large enough to carry my laptop, a notebook and some papers, but is also a great carry-on for airplanes or a grocery bag if I’m picking up a few things at the store. It’s an investment for sure, but it’s made by a New England company that, in my opinion, produces leather that rivals any luxury brand.”

With a design this practical, you’ll find yourself reaching for this bag every morning. “It is the perfect bag,” says Geneviève Guertin, vice president of life sciences at a venture capital firm. “My laptop fits in it perfectly, you can tuck it under the seat of an airplane, it can be used as a backpack and you can wash it in the machine.”

Puffer jackets are all the rage, but a puffer bag adds something even more surprising to your work fit. “I had my eye on this bag for as long as it’s been listed,” says Katelyn Thomas, a news reporter. “I’m obsessed with the quilted pattern and the color, and the fact that it’s a sturdier take on a classic tote. It’s spacious and fits everything I need for work, plus it’s made with sustainable materials, so it was a guilt-free purchase.”

Thanks to this bag’s waterproof material and roomy interior, you’ll find yourself reaching for it every morning without fail. “I’ve been using the Rains bag for years after too many precarious snow-in-tote-near-my-work-laptop moments,” says Kendra Sharp, a digital marketer. “It zips closed to be totally waterproof, meaning I can walk to work in the rain as much as I need to. It’s also lasted me almost four years now, so I’d recommend it to anyone.”

To save your back — and your sanity — grab this sleek yet roomy Matt & Nat backpack with the appeal of a purse. “This backpack fits everything so I don’t need to bring three bags,” says Cassandra Chase, a talent acquisition advisor. “It sits comfortably on my back so I’m not lopsided and as a bonus it’s made of vegan leather.”

Coach bags are making a comeback in a serious way, and if they aren’t part of your daily work wardrobe, you’re missing out on all the convenience they offer. “I use a standard Coach tote bag. It has textured leather so I just have to wipe it down to clean the outside,” says Kyra Tuwaig, a corporate lawyer. “I like it because I can zip it up to close it and it fits my laptop. I got it as a gift when I first started my job and I haven’t had a need to replace it since.”

Whether you’ve got a career in the visual arts or you travel with lots of gear, this Amazon’s Choice convertible bag is bound to come in handy. “We used to have four bags for our cameras and drones and this is big enough for all my cameras and tripod,” says Peter Sawinski, a wedding photographer. “I can roll it on its wheels or wear it as a backpack. Even though I use it for photography, I also use it as a travel bag.”

You can’t go wrong with this roomy cruelty-free tote with a center compartment clasp closure, dual slip compartments and adjustable and detachable crossbody strap. “I got this a few years ago and use it every day for work,” says Rachel Sheiner, an elementary school teacher. “It’s still in perfect shape and it cleans nicely.”

For a practical briefcase with the style appeal of a streetwear bag, opt for this statement tote. “I love it because it’s extremely versatile and I can organize all of my essentials in it without my bag being too bulky,” says Claudine Grondin, a buying manager. “I also love the fabric and color as it’s a nice twist on a classic tote bag shape.”

When I’m conducting in-person interviews for articles, I’m likely running around the city afterward. This lifesaver of a bag features thick and padded straps that don’t dig into my shoulders when it’s holding everything from my laptop to my lunch to a change of clothes. It has several genius compartments that make it easy to keep my clutter organized.

This one’s more of a grower than a show-er. From the outset, it looks like your typical athletic backpack, but it fits a shocking amount of stuff, from my laptop to portable Yeti rambler to extra sweatshirts for when I inevitably start to freeze after a couple hours of working. The outside compartment is roomy enough to serve as its own bag, making the actual main compartment a sort of cherry on top. I love that its backing is padded enough not just to protect my valuables but my back, so I don’t necessarily need to ensure I place flat items at the end before wearing it.

It doesn’t get better than this soft-to-the-touch tote bag with more than 58,000 Amazon reviews. It features a large main compartment and a small side pocket for valuables, and a decorative tassel to keep it looking super chic. From versatile hues like Apricot to Ash Gray, it’s at once professional enough for the boardroom and chic enough for a night out on the town. And at that price, you’ll want to grab one for every day of the week.

Gone are the days of worrying whether your laptop will actually stay safe in your bag during your commute. Designed with military-grade protection, water-resistant fabric and reinforced edges that absorb impact, this bestselling laptop bag shoulder bag with more than 13,000 Amazon reviews makes for an all-around wise investment.

Designed with a sophisticated water-resistant waxed canvas and cowhide leather, this practical messenger bag with nearly 13,000 Amazon reviews evokes the nostalgic aesthetic of a newspaper delivery boy with all the updated bells and whistles of a modern work bag. It has an adjustable and removable shoulder strap for a personalized fit, a magnetic snap to easily secure your belongings and a padded sleeve to protect your laptop of up to 15.6 inches.

We napped in all the best nap dresses — these were our favorites | CNN Underscored

This article is part of Spring Fashion Month, where we’re breaking down your must-have fashion pieces for the next few months. From denim jackets to comfy sandals, we’re asking editors, influencers and experts about the go-to pieces they wear through spring and beyond.

Easy, breezy and totally comfortable. The Nap Dress, trademarked by lifestyle brand Hill House, is just one of the latest iterations of house dresses. And while house dresses have been around for decades and potentially even centuries (the style is said to have originated from a Victorian gown), the romantic garment is experiencing quite the renaissance.

Nap dresses are “loose-fitting, flowy and feminine” says Amanda Sanders, a lifestyle expert and stylist to celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Rock and Jennifer Coolidge. Often the only fitted part of the dress is around the bust, and other key features include “heavy smocking, over-exaggerated puff sleeves and a typically long, slightly pleated skirt.” While nap dresses may be comfortable enough to sleep in, their purpose goes far beyond that of a nightgown. The brilliance of the nap dress and similar house dresses is that they’re generally dressy enough to wear to the office, comfortable enough for running errands and romantic enough for a weekend date.

Ahead, we’ve not only tried but napped in our favorite nap dresses we own and love. They check all our boxes when it comes to comfort, versatility and — of course — style.

When I think of nap dresses, my mind immediately goes to Hill House, the brand that undoubtedly started the viral trend. Everyone wants to get their hands on the Ellie Nap Dress and I was lucky enough to try it for a size-inclusive test I’m a part of for our social channels (coming soon!). As expected, the fabric is absolutely top-notch and the French-inspired ‘Pink Stripe Vine’ pattern is both dainty and feminine. It truly is comfy enough to nap in but the ruffled shoulders, elasticated smocking and tiered midi skirt is elevated and sophisticated enough to wear to fancy drinks or dinner this spring and summer. It’s also important to note that after hours of sleeping or general movement in the dress, it never once wrinkled! One word: obsessed. — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

I love how flattering the Daphne is and the fact that it has pockets that are deep enough to hold my phone, which is always a plus in my books. While this dress does feature a structured bodice that makes it more restrictive up top than the Ellie, it is still just as comfortable to wear (and yes, to nap in)! Basically, I love everything about this dress from the cute, whimsical print to the elegant, ruffled shoulders to the flowy bottom. — Rachel Dennis, editorial coordinator

This dress lives up to the name! The fabric feels cooling and soft like my sheets so I didn’t really notice it while sleeping. It feels like the perfect dress to wear while laying in the park or on the beach. Definitely recommend! — Hannah Lauson, senior digital content strategist

Behold, a puff-sleeve dress that doesn’t overwhelm you! I’m just 5-feet-tall, and puff sleeves can often make me look like I’m about to fly away. These on the Louisa Nap dress fit my proportions exactly, and it really is so comfy. I got it in the Black Cotton and while it feels stiff at first, it just gets softer and softer with each wash. It’s so stretchy that I’d definitely recommend ordering your regular size or actually one size down, especially if you have narrow soldiers since the neckline is so wide. Speaking of neckline, it hits perfectly so I can actually wear a bra with it, and it can easily be dressed up with heels and jewelry or truly be the perfect nap dress. — Rachel Lubitz, senior lifestyle editor

It’s a classic for a reason. The Ellie Nap Dress from Hill House Home is so light and floaty, that’s really not hard to actually nap in it. This gingham print reminds me of picnics in the parks and is perfect for summer, and the ruffled sleeve is a fun touch that makes this dress both cute and comfy. — Chelsea Stone, senior editor

The vividly colored material is actually a rayon/cotton blend (not solely cotton), which makes it super lightweight and almost silky against the skin. My fear that the fabric would overwhelm my 5-foot-4 stature was put at bay as soon as I put it on. While it’s certainly loose, the dress is definitely not huge. The midi length is my favorite detail, as it hits a flattering point between my knees and ankles. The dress — that others are paying more than $300 for from high-end designers — easily transitions from drab to fab, letting you live out your cottagecore fashion fantasies. — Courtney Thompson, Underscored contributor

I’m calling it right now: This is going to be the dress I wear (or sleep in!) the most this year. Not only does it have the key features of a nap dress — a heavily smocked bodice, over-exaggerated puff sleeves and a long, loose-fitting skirt — but it’s quite literally the cutest, comfiest and most-flattering dress I’ve ever worn. The 3D embroidered flowers are a unique, spring-y touch and the sleeves aren’t too billowy, which I love. Since I’m on the shorter side, I often get swallowed in maxis, but the fit is just perfection and fits every body to a tee. It needs no explanation that the other seven colors are sitting in my Free People cart right now! — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

If you’re looking for an incredibly chic nap dress that has the type of material that’ll last you til the end of time, don’t sleep on Daily Sleeper (pun very much intended). The material is so thick and durable, yet lightweight and breathable enough to wear during the warmer weather months — and to every kind of occasion might I add. The elasticated smocking and skirt accentuate the body in all of the ways a woman wants it to, and it’s so comfy, I truly never want to take it off. My favorite feature though, are the sleeves, which are overly-exaggerated to perfection and can be worn on or off the shoulders. Take it from me: it’s worth every single penny. — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

OK, yes, this dress looks dark and heavy but listen — this is truly the easiest, breeziest dress I own. I first wore this to an absolutely sweltering wedding last summer and since then it’s been in my work-from-home wardrobe because it feels like wearing the lightest cotton imaginable. The two slits on either add some sex appeal and also make it cool to walk in, and it’s got a ton of elastic so it really hugs your curves in a beautiful way. I’ve worn it with a (faux) diamond necklace as much as I’ve worn it barefoot around the house. And yup, you can wear a regular bra! — Rachel Lubitz, senior lifestyle editor

Any time I slip this dress on, I never want to take it off which is ideal, because it can also double as a nightgown! Cut from super soft, lightweight materials, this happy orange and pink dress is perfectly oversized and features a shirred bust and elasticated cuffs that can be worn up or down. The keyhole back is the perfect feminine touch and overall, it’s incredibly versatile and can be worn on all occasions. — Stephanie Griffin, social lead

If you’re looking for a shorter and less expensive version of the ultra-comfy nap dress, snag The Athena.

Ready to work some more cottagecore vibes into your summer wardrobe? With a dainty floral print, this maxi dress from Lulus is perfect for all your get-togethers, daily errands or sun-soaked relaxing.

With a sweet tie back, square neckline and ruffled hem, this maxi from Free People has us completely obsessed. Perfect for those days when you want to feel a tad more feminine but also want that breezy, all-day comfort.

Sanders suggests larger patterns, as opposed to small floral prints, when it comes to looking more in fashion and less like you’re wearing a nightgown you’d actually sleep in. This embroidered dress is one take on that bolder pattern, which reviewers say garners tons of compliments.

This option from Lulus, one of our favorite places to shop for affordable yet high-quality dresses, features the nap dress’s signature smocked bodice and flowy skirt, but swaps big sleeves for short off-the-shoulder ones. With thigh-high slits, the whole dress is sleek, and just a little sexier than your typical nap dress.

Sanders explains that many maxi-length nap dresses can be “overwhelming to most women who are under 5’7”.” Short nap dresses feature everything we love about their maxi-length counterparts, but are friendlier to petites. This option from Free People comes in seven stunning colors, and features a cute tie in the back so you don’t have to fret about buttons or zippers.

The 22 best sunglasses to rock this spring, according to style experts | CNN Underscored

Just like your shoe or bag collection, sunglasses are something you likely don’t overhaul season after season. You likely have a few go-to styles that you’ve worn with some regularity over the last few years in addition to your trusty face sunscreen, supplemented by some on-trend styles that ebb and flow by the year.

But with so much anticipation ahead of spring, we asked fashion experts for their absolute favorite, top-rated, under-$150 sunglasses styles.

The consensus? While frame shapes and styles are susceptible to the trend cycle, there are a few perennial favorites that crop up year after year, no matter what. “In my opinion, every well-dressed person should have a pair of oversized aviators in their arsenal,” says Shelby Hyde, a shopping editor at Harper’s Bazaar. “Along with a chic design, they are extremely versatile and can be worn with just about everything. Not to mention they look great on all face shapes.”

Ahead, top-rated under-$150 sunglasses that fashion editors recommend.

These aviators give a little bit of ’80s flair to any outfit with colored lenses and a retro style, including molded nose pads and a sleek brow-bar detail.

    Marc Jacobs Women's Cat-Eye Sunglasses

“Every woman’s collection needs a cat-eye pair — a trend that Marc Jacobs dressed up by tying in glitter accents,” Naer says. “These are a personal favorite of mine for their edgy sophistication.”

Le Specs Outta Love Oval Sunglasses

Tortoise is the perfect choice if you want to opt for a more versatile sunglass coloring. They pair seamlessly with “head-to-toe black outfits just as well as, say, a tangerine sundress,” says Naer.

    Le Specs Recovery

“Much like aviators, all-black sunglasses that cover the majority of your eyes are a daily essential,” says Hyde. “They’ll come in handy, for early morning flights especially.”

    Lyon Men's Sunglasses

These simple black sunglasses match with nearly everything, and their clean, rectangular shape and small blue detail ensure you’re looking sharp everywhere you go.

    Margot Chunky Rectangle Sunglasses

“To add a pop of color to your eyewear collection, stick with lucite pastels for a more subtle approach,” Hyde recommends. “This pair is particularly great for its featherweight but sturdy design.”

    Sulu Eco-Friendly Sunglasses

These sunglasses come in a nice array of colors, which will be a perfect pairing with bright shirts. Plus, they’re are eco-friendly and 100% biodegradable.

Warby Parker Rhea Sunglasses in Truffle Tortoise

These tortoiseshell-framed sunglasses are one of Warby Parker’s staff picks. “They’re modern and timeless at the same time,” the Warby Parker staff says.

    Le Specs For-Never Mine Sunglasses

“I always need a funky, novelty pair of sunnies for those days I want to make a statement,” Melero says.

    Poppy Lissiman Stevie Sunglasses

“These sunnies are fun and bold,” says Micaéla Verrelien, a New York City-based model and influencer.. “Everyone needs one pair of shades with a print.”

The Forme Power Bra aims to correct your posture — and we tried it out | CNN Underscored

My posture is a problem. Point in fact: It doesn’t matter how many minutes I work out in a day. I know — I just know — I’m undoing half the benefits by spending the rest of my day hunched over my laptop or melting into my couch as I scroll through my phone. The worst part? I know my sedentary habits are having an effect on my workouts (a fact my massage therapist loves to remind me of as she tries to work out all the knots in my upper and lower back).

Which is why I was intrigued by Forme’s posture-correcting Power Bra. The company bills this sports bra as a wearable that “immediately trains alignment … while treating and correcting posture for improved lifestyle and athletic performance.” (They also make workout clothes like shorts and leggings aimed at alleviating back pain, sciatica or hip pain; t-shirts and long sleeves designed to correct posture disorders; and socks that help eliminate sore or flat feet).

A sports bra that can stand up to high performance activities and help me embrace more efficient form — while possibly combatting my poor posture during work hours? I was ready to be wowed. Here’s what I thought after several weeks of testing.

The Forme Power Bra is a wearable that aims to help women correct their posture throughout the day. Comfortable and lightweight, we felt it helped make us more aware of our poor posture rather than actively changing it. Plus, it’s fashionable enough to wear as a cropped tank. However, without authentication from the FDA and an expensive price tag, the only way most women can afford this is to use their insurance (which Forme makes available).

The first time I put on Forme’s Power Bra, I instantly felt it pull my shoulders down and backwards, the same way a fitness class instructor might cue you to do before a certain exercise. It felt good! The bra is made using six fabrics of varied tension (think of it like a set of resistance bands, which range from light to heavy) and eight double-fabric panels, which the company claims will work together to deliver correction and balance in your spinal posture.

I don’t really think it realigned my spine in any significant way, but that initial change in positioning was a nice physical reminder to check in with my body while sitting at my computer and working out. Unfortunately, because there’s nothing in the bra to force my body into that position for long periods of time, the initial feedback wore off quickly; when I wore the Power Bra on an 11-hour flight to Japan, for example, my posture sagged back to its standard slouch after directly boarding.

I ran, did yoga, pilates, and strength training classes, and weight lifted in the Power Bra, and it felt like any standard sports bra during all of those workouts. The straps and underband are wide and comfortable, the fabric is smooth and lightweight, and the extra length allowed me to wear it as a crop top. The website suggests stretching the armholes a few times before wearing the bra for a more comfortable fit, and I found that to be true; due to the tension fabrics, it can be a slightly tighter fit overall, but after the first wear, I didn’t have any issues.

Forme says its apparel is FDA-registered, which sounds nice — but that does not mean the FDA has authenticated, validated or approved the products in any way. One 2019 scientific review published in the Scandinavian Journal of Pain declared that “there’s no good quality evidence to support recommendation of posture-correcting shirts as a management strategy for musculoskeletal pain.” Even if there are some short-term benefits, adding a posture modification system to a compression garment “is not intended as a therapeutic device to correct posture abnormalities or as a long-term solution to less-than-ideal posture,” according to a 2021 study published in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics.

I don’t care what a sports bra purports to do, charging $168 is not financially feasible to me. Even Lululemon bras max out at $108! Unless a piece of apparel that’s being marketed as a medical device is thoroughly backed up by science and vetted by the FDA, I’d have a hard time spending as much as I pay for a monthly gym membership on one single sports bra.

Forme’s apparel uses tension fabrics to encourage postural changes. Similarly, AlignMe uses a “matrix of bands, panels, and seams,” which the company refers to as Neuroband technology, to support the alignment of the chest, neck, scapula, and spine in their Zipper Posture Sports Bra for Women, which is available for $95 (it’s also not FDA-approved). FWIW, you can use insurance to pay for the Forme bra, but not for AlignMe’s bra.

Before you invest in a posture-correcting sports bra to counteract slouching at your desk all day, consider this: There’s no single correct definition for “good posture.” People think of good posture as a straight-backed position, while slouched gets classified as bad posture. What actually matters is varying your movement and strengthening your body — two things that fall by the wayside when you’re sitting for upwards of eight hours a day.

Forme recommends wearing it for four to six hours throughout the day for four to six months in order to see posture improvements; instead, I’d suggest changing up your position throughout the day and incorporating strength training into your routine two to three times a week. And then if you still want to spend $168 on a bra, that’s on you.

Balletcore is trending: Here’s how to get the look, according to stylists and influencers | CNN Underscored

Though the balletcore movement has been making the TikTok rounds for about a year, it’s had a greater staying power in comparison to other fashion trends on social media that are out almost as soon as they’re in. This spring, balletcore is out in full force — the dancewear-inspired aesthetic is still dominating TikTok, featured in everything from trend predictions to get-ready-with-me videos.

“Dance, movement and ballet in particular is such a huge part of self expression,” says Luna Montana, an influencer known for documenting her life as a ballerina online. “It’s using your body to tell a story. In many ways people use fashion to portray the same things so it’s natural that the two things would collide to create a trend such as balletcore.”

With celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid at the helm of the trend since last year — Jenner’s tights-only outfit and Hadid’s off-duty sweatsuit-ballet flat ensemble made headlines in the fall — and designers like Miu Miu, Molly Goddard, Simone Rocha and more bringing the ballet influence to their collections, it’s no wonder that balletcore still has momentum among consumers this season.

Historically, ballet and fashion have been intertwined for far longer than its recent renaissance on the runway (and social media). “The relationship between the two is an inherent thing,” says celebrity stylist Aimée Croysdill. One of her clients is “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan, whose standout red carpet fashion has often employed some of balletcore’s central style elements like tulle and pastels. “Aside from the history, right now both industries have always celebrated one another.”

Though the resurgence of balletcore hasn’t been without its concerns of inaccessibility, personal stylist and image coach Amanda Limardi says that the trend isn’t just meant for the so-called “ideal” ballerina body. Balletcore takes a traditionally exclusive industry and makes it accessible to everyone in the form of everyday clothing — and the aesthetic isn’t dependent on a certain size.

“I think we put a lot of limits on ourselves of like, you’re too tall, you’re too short, you’re too fat, you’re too skinny to wear something, but if you really love something and it makes you feel like you when you’re wearing it, there’s always a way to make it work for your body type and for your lifestyle,” Limardi says.

If you’re looking to find out how you can incorporate balletcore into your day-to-day style, we asked stylists and influencers to break down the trend and share their favorite pieces — read on to learn how to add the aesthetic to your wardrobe.

Limardi sees balletcore as divided into two categories: ballet rehearsal-style athleisure and ultra-feminine performance wear. The prior involves leg warmers, leggings, wraps and the like — where comfort and movement is key — while the latter is more elevated, working with materials like tulle and satin. You don’t have to commit to one or the other, however, as they can easily be mixed together.

Croysdill, who danced from a young age and describes how the “aesthetic, discipline and understanding of form” has impacted her styling decisions, explains that “the softness and sheen of the satin mixed with the delicate pastel hues make for the most feminine aesthetic.”

Montana says that overall, balletcore communicates comfort and youth as well. “For many people being a ballerina was their childhood fantasy,” Montana explains. “Dressing in balletcore allows people to live out that dream in an everyday way that works for them.

At its heart, the aesthetic taps into the longstanding relationship between ballet and fashion, and so evergreen shapes and fabrics like knits are its staples. “The pieces are timeless, easy to mix and match and they’re also non-specific,” stylist and influencer Hannah Miller says.

In addition to pastels and light neutral colors, sheer fabric and mesh — both of which are also very big in fashion at the moment — are also balletcore go-tos, according to Miller. “Mesh and lycra seem to be the most stand out materials, but for colder months, the leg warmers and even knitted boleros can offer some much needed warmth,” she says.

Hence, what makes balletcore ideal for spring, during the transition from colder to warmer weather. Both Montana and Limardi stress that layering is of utmost importance to achieving the balletcore look, whether it be leg warmers on top of tights, for example, or a shrug over a bodysuit.

Gone are the days of uncomfortable heels — Limardi recommends this simple and sleek Jeffrey Campbell flat to complete the ballerina look, which is an easy way to step up any outfit.

If you want to dip your toe into the trend and don’t want to commit to a pricer option, Limardi suggests A New Day’s ballet flats, which come in beige, black, blush and silver — so if you want to tap into the metallic trend, you can get the best of both worlds with this shoe.

Still a bit wary about a totally flat shoe? Try adding a little height with Steve Madden’s Cherish ballerina heels, which come in a sleek black patent, red, a knit-looking material and even denim. These are an almost perfect dupe for the popular, several-hundred-dollar Repetto Camille Ballerinas that have been seen on the likes of Lily-Rose Depp.

If you’re still not sold on the basic flat, Miller says “you can go with a platform chunky ballet pump that can easily be swapped into your outfit in place of trainers.” Case in point, these fun, retro platforms that give off an edgier ballerina vibe, especially in the light pink colorway.

Limardi picks a satin midi skirt to lean into the more elevated side of balletcore, which can be styled in a plethora of ways. “It’s such a cool piece and you can really edge it up with a T-shirt, but then you could do it with the elegant wrap sweater and the ballet flats and just be a little chic woman on the go,” she says.

On the other hand, if you want to lean into the athleisure side, try out these Athleta sweatpants, which come in balletcore-approved baby blue. To add a layer of interest to the outfit, maybe even pair them with a ballet flat to blend fancy with casual.

These types of comfortable workout items are what Montana thinks draws people to the trend. “I think balletcore has stuck because ballet is a form of movement and working out is a part of everyday life for most people,” she says.

Miller suggests adding a wrap skirt to your wardrobe to give off ballerina vibes, and this chiffon Aerie one is sheer and flowy, both central elements of balletcore. “[They] can be worn in the autumn with tights, layered over trousers in winter, or worn alone in the summer,” she says. “They add a casual effortless element to any outfit.”

A sportier counterpart to the straight up wrap skirt, Free People’s aptly named skort is perfect if you’re aiming to bring the ballet look to the gym — or anywhere, really.

Tiny shorts over tights is a simple yet interesting way to communicate “ballerina,” and these Lovers and Friends knit shorts come in a fitting pastel pink. If you’re wanting to recreate the Kendall and Kylie Jenner-approved “tights with no pants” trend, yet you don’t want to ditch pants entirely, Limardi suggests bike shorts with tights as a nice practical alternative.

    Balletcore tops and bodysuits

Montana says that if you want the “real authentic look,” you should turn to dancewear shops’ warm-up sections, like Bloch’s. “I like to try to style balletcore items with things you wouldn’t think of, like baggy jeans with a pink wrap top or a skirt with leg warmers but an oversized off the shoulder sweatshirt overtop,” she explains.

Leotards are a ballerina staple, so it makes sense that bodysuits are frequent pieces in the aesthetic. To top it off, this Parade option also features the sheer fabric and scoop neck that balletcore loves — and you can get two for $40 right now.

“You could start with a plain bodysuit with jeans and a slick[ed] back bun just to get a feel for it at first,” says Miller. “Like any trend, you should always try mixing singular pieces with your own personal style so the aesthetic is catered to you and will be timeless within your own wardrobe.”

Sustainable and size inclusive, Girlfriend Collective’s scoopback one-piece is a superb basic. It comes in a subtly ribbed, knit-looking fabric that adheres to balletcore’s athleisure elements.

As established, layering is a must, and Miller recommends a bolero to add “fun texture and layering to any outfit.” She says, “[They] can be perfect for the summer in a thinner more fitted material or can be worn in the winter as a chunky knit.”

Miller says bodysuits are “super flattering, can be worn with literally any outfit and are a real staple for your wardrobe that you’ll find yourself reaching for all the time,” and this SKIMS option is beloved by most wearers — including us at Underscored — and sits at nearly five stars with over a thousand reviews.

Tulle is one of the more on-the-nose elements of balletcore, but you don’t need to wear a tutu to work the ultra-feminine material into the aesthetic. Lingerie-as-clothing has been popular for the past couple years, so this sheer slip can either be worn as-is or layered with other pieces.

With the pastels, puff sleeves and flouncy skirt, Selkie’s romantic puff dress delivers ballet performance wear in the best way. “It’s extremely flattering with the open neckline and somehow makes your legs look long and lean, even without an accentuated waistline,” one reviewer praises.

Montana also loves Frankies Bikinis’ Pilates Princess activewear line, which she thinks “incorporate[s] ballet elements into everyday workout clothes.” The pink Pirouette dress in particular has been a hit among many social media users, with its bodysuit-style top half and layered skirt bottom.

Of course, leg warmers are a must, and Montana suggests dancewear brand Capezio’s option if you’re trying to go for authenticity. They are perfect for the spring weather, as well, since they’re ideal layering pieces.

“I would say a pair of legwarmers, any type of warm up wrap top, some bows in your hair, or even taking an everyday shirt and cutting out the neckline for an off the shoulder look would give you the balletcore look,” Montana says.

To get the Miu Miu-style footwear look, donning chunky socks and scrunching them down is a great way to dress down fancier flats — and add even more comfort.

Easy and feminine, ribbons and bows have been on-trend for the past year or so among TikTok users, and Miller and Montana say they are key hair accessories for balletcore. “Bows in the hair at the end of plaits tie in perfectly with this trend and can really pull an outfit together,” Miller explains.

Bows are one of Croysdill’s go-tos when styling Coughlan. “The use of bows and tulle has been an ongoing theme for [me and Nicola] because we love how it moves, feels and celebrates femininity,” she says.

If you want your bow to be more of a statement piece, Anthropolgie’s shimmery bow barrette has a strong dancewear feel.

Tights as a layering basic are essential, and Capezio’s come in a range of light neutral colors, and you can go footed or footless. 60 reviews have put the pair at five stars, with several saying they last longer and snag less easily than other brands.
