    HBO’s Green Lantern Series Finally Casts Hal Jordan

    After a near-endless casting and development process, it looks like DC’s Green Lantern series is finally almost ready to begin production.

    HBO and Max have spent years developing a show based on the classic DC Comics sci-fi property. Their version has always been described as a kind of police procedural set in outer space, but exactly which Lanterns are the focus (and who is doing the focusing behind the camera) has been in flux. The latest version of the show, called Lanterns, is from DC writer Tom King, Damon Lindelof, and Chris Munday, who is the showrunner on the series.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, they have picked Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler to play Hal Jordan, the most famous of all the Green Lanterns, on the series.

    THR describes the show as having “a gritty, True Detective vibe” and will focus on an older Hal Jordan mentoring “reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart,” with DC reportedly looking for a younger actor to play opposite Chandler, who is best known as the inspirational high school football coach Eric Taylor from five seasons of the great NBC drama. On the big screen, Chandler has appeared in Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

    DC previously adapted Green Lantern into a notorious big-budget disaster starring Ryan Reynolds as a younger version of Hal Jordan. A few years later, Warner Bros. began looking into the possibility of a Green Lantern TV show. The version of the show that first came together would have been produced by Seth Grahame-Smith, and was going to star Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine as several other members of the Green Lantern Corps, Guy Gardner and Alan Scott. That iteration of the series fell apart in the fall of 2022.

    This new Lanterns is intended to be part of the new DC Universe headed by James Gunn. Per THR, it is looking to begin production early in 2025.

    Emily in Paris Season 5 has been confirmed at Netflix, with lead star Lily Collins opening up about the return of the popular romantic comedy.

    What did Lily Collins say about Emily in Paris Season 5?

    Collins, who plays the titular Emily Cooper, is also a producer on the Netflix series. She announced the renewal news on Good Morning America. In subsequent comments, the actress shared that she was excited to see what would unfold between Emily and her new squeeze Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

     “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” Collins told Tudum about Emily in Paris Season 5. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

    Show creator Darren Star echoed Collins’ remarks, sharing that Marcello and Emily’s connection will be explored further in the upcoming installments. But as for what that means for Emily’s turbulent relationship with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Collins teases that her ex will have a tough hill to climb: “Unfortunately,” Collins said. “Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice.”

    Collins is referring to the fact that Gabriel decided to end his relationship with Emily. He later realized, in the closing moments of Emily in Paris Season 4, that he wanted to be with Emily. However, the couple has had their share of troubles and complications that they’ll have to get over first.

    Along with Collins, Bravo, and Franceschini, the Emily in Paris cast includes Ashley Park (Mindy), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Camille Razat (Camille), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie). The most recent season also introduced a new character: Genevive, who is played by Thalia Benson.

    Emily in Paris is created, written, and executive produced by Star, who has created series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, and Sex and the City. Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Alison Brown, and Robin Schiff executive produce, with Stephen Brown, Grant Sloss, and Joe Murphy as co-EPs. Collins, meanwhile, produces Ryan McCormick, Raphaël Benoliel, and Jake Fuller. It’s produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Jax Media, and Darren Star Productions.

    Cassie is one of the main characters of the show. She struggles with rumors about her sexual history and initially begins dating the school’s football star, Chris McKay. After that relationship falls apart, she grows close to Nate Jacobs, the abusive former boyfriend of her best friend Maddy Perez. In the Season 2 finale, Cassie disrupts her sister Lexi’s play about her (Cassie) life. Maddy attacks her backstage and that leads to a brawl between the two. Afterward, Cassie reveals to Maddy that Nate has ended their relationship.

    Euphoria premiered on HBO on June 16, 2019, with Season 2 airing from January 9, 2022, to February 27, 2022. Since then, Sweeney has established herself as one of the most bankable young stars of Hollywood, further solidified by the success of the 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You.

    Alan Wake was already a cinematic game series, but now it is going to be developed as both movies and TV shows.

    According to a press release, Annapurna is partnering with game studio Remedy to “develop and produce their award-winning Control and Alan Wake franchises for film, television and other audiovisual formats.” In addition, Annapurna are working “as a co-production and co-financing partner for the upcoming game Control 2.”

    In Alan Wake, players control the title character, a novelist suffering from writer’s block who must investigate his wife’s disappearance, and then encounters shadowy supernatural beings that can only be hurt after they’re exposed to light. The sequel expanded the mythology of the franchise, and not only continued Alan’s story and added a new protagonist, an FBI Agent named Saga Anderson, solving a strange series of murders that are connected to Alan.

    The first game was released in 2010 and became a critical and commercial hit; Remedy released its first full sequel, Alan Wake II in 2023, when it quickly became the company’s fast-selling title.

    While video games were long considered poor subject matter for movies and TV shows — and almost exclusively yielded absolutely dreadful live-action adaptation, that has changed in recent years. HBO had one of his biggest hits of the decade with their version of The Last of Us, and Sonic the Hedgehog has become one of Paramount’s biggest film franchises. (Then again, the movie version of Borderlands is one of the biggest flops of 2024, so you never know.)

    Still, Alan Wake seems like it does have the makings of a great film or television series, if the material is handled properly. We’ll see how it goes.

    The host for the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards has been revealed.

    The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5, 2025, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET (5 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT) on CBS. They will also be available to stream on Paramount+ in the United States.

    Who is hosting the 2025 Golden Globe Awards?

    Per Variety, comedian Nikki Glaser has been tapped to host the 2025 awards show.

    “I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes,” Glaser said. “It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so). It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).

    “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (‘Below Deck: Sailing Yacht’ Season Four will be nominated, right?).”

    Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne added, “Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes. She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.”

    Glaser — who previously released stand-up specials such as 2022’s Good Clean Filth and 2024’s Someday You’ll Die — follows Jo Koy, who hosted the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. 

    Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will executive produce the awards show, while Dick Clark Productions will plan, host, and produce the event.

    One of the biggest villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to make a surprising return.

    Ultron will reportedly appear on Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series built around Paul Bettany’s android Vision. The series is tentatively set to begin production next year; Terry Matalas of the later seasons of Star Trek: Picard, is the executive producer and showrunner of the Vision series. As in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the evil robot will be played by James Spader.

    According to Variety, “jow Ultron will return for the series is unclear. For Age of Ultron, Spader performed the role via performance capture, but that process remains an expensive proposition for a TV series.”

    Spader’s Ultron first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was also the first time Bettany — who had previously provided the voice of the artificial intelligence inside Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor — played Vision. In that film, Ultron creates Vision himself, using some vibranium and one of the Infinity Stones. (Ultron himself was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, using the same Infinity Stone and some of Stark’s technology.)

    In Marvel Comics, the characters’ origins are somewhat different, but still intertwined. There, it was Hank Pym who created Ultron — who then, in turn, created Vision as a spy and double agent who could destroy the Avengers from within. Instead, Vision decided to become a hero and remained a longtime member of the Avengers team.

    In the MCU, Bettany’s original version of Vision died during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. In the Disney+ series WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch used her magic to recreate him temporarily — while a government organization rebuilt Vision’s original body (and gave him a new white paint scheme) without his original memories. In the WandaVision finale, Wanda’s recreated Vision was erased, but not before he restored the “real” (white) Vision’s memories.

    Presumably the new show will focus on that version of the character — and, in some way, Ultron.

    The Acolyte will not get a second season.

    The latest Star Wars television show will reportedly not return for further episodes — even though the series ended on multiple cliffhangers. They will apparently never get resolved, at least not on The Acolyte.

    That’s according to Deadline, who reports that Lucasfilm has chosen “not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot.” They claim that after a strong start with viewers, “The Acolyte could not sustain the momentum, dropping out of the [Nielsen] Top 10 in Week 3 and staying off before returning at No. 10 after the release of the finale.” (They also note that its performance is “believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars series finale.”)

    The news has to be considered a disappointment, as The Acolyte had a major creative pedigree, including Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, and a cast that included Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Manny Jacinto. Despite impressive fight sequences, an intriguing villain played by Jacinto, and plenty of mysterious subplots, the show also struggled to connect with some viewers.

    Perhaps most disappointing, though, is the fact, that the series will leave behind numerous unresolved storylines. The final episode teased major new directions for its two lead characters, twin sisters Mae and Osha (Stenberg), and featured cameos from the long-discussed but never seen Darth Sidious, plus good old Master Yoda. How both of these characters fit into the events of the first season will now not be explained — or if they are, that will have to come in a comic or a novel or some other ancillary Star Wars content.

    Star Wars still has numerous shows planned for Disney+ in the future. Andor will return for a second season, and a new series titled Skeleton Crew is set to debut on the streaming service on December 3 of this year. Although it hasn’t been finalized yet, a second season of Ahsoka is being developed as well.

    According to Deadline, The Acolyte has been canceled after its debut season. The Star Wars show, which starred Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae, proved to be quite divisive and wasn’t able to retain its viewership as the season went on. The report states that its season finale is believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars TV show, with 335 million minutes.

    For fans of the show, this news will be disappointing. The Acolyte Season 2 had been pitched by showrunner Leslye Headland, who openly discussed that she had plans for a second season and was hoping for a renewal.

    “In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….” said the official synopsis.

    Lucasfilm is currently working on other Star Wars projects, including shows like Skeleton Crew, Andor Season 2, and Ahsoka Season 2.
