  • Chris Rock Will Be the First Artist to Perform Live on Netflix

Chris Rock Will Be the First Artist to Perform Live on Netflix

It’s been quite a 2022 for Chris Rock, and not always in a good way. You might have heard about this incident at the Academy Awards this year, it was sort of discussed a little bit. Will Smith slapped Rock in the face, on stage, in the middle of the ceremony, after Rock made a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense.

That was probably not a 2022 highlight for Rock. But at the very least, it could potentially give him some material to draw on for his next big project: The first-ever live stand-up special — or live performance of any kind — on Netflix. The streaming service announced today that Rock would star in “the company’s first-ever live, global streaming event” in early 2023.

Netflix’s vice president of standup comedy, Robbie Praw, had this to say about the announcement:

Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation. We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.

Chris Rock previously released a standup special on Netflix, Tambourine, in 2018. It is still streaming there now.

There’s no guarantee Rock will discuss the Will Smith incident and its aftermath on the special — although if he doesn’t, that would be a bit of a surprise. This will be a massive forum; certainly Rock’s biggest since the Academy Awards back in March. People are going to want to hear what he has to say about the slap. Thus far, Rock has largely avoided discussing it at length in public. He also turned down an offer to host the 2023 Oscars, comparing the choice to asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.”

The exact timing of Rock’s live Netflix special will be announced at a later date.

  • ‘The Penguin’ Series Bridges the Gap Between ‘The Batman’ Movies

‘The Penguin’ Series Bridges the Gap Between ‘The Batman’ Movies

Despite all the upheaval and changes behind the scenes of Warner Bros. Discovery, it appears (key word appears) that HBO Max is still moving ahead with a television show starring the version of the DC villain the Penguin, as played by Colin Farrell in the recent movie The BatmanFarrell himself recently said he had read the script for the premiere episode and described the whole show as very “unusual.” (Well, yeah. Not too many television shows about comic-book super-villains!)

As for when we can expect this show, HBO Max head of originals Sarah Aubrey told Variety that the series takes place “immediately after the end of The Batman” and before the events of the planned big-screen The Batman sequel. She added:

The show will come out in between the two movies. Now beyond that, it’s fun for the audience to know that it will be a bridge between the two, but the actual release date, I’m not at liberty to say.

In The Batman, Oswald Cobblepot runs the Iceberg Lounge, a Gotham City nightclub affiliated with the Falcone crime family. Rather than squawking like a bird and zapping Batman with gimmicked umbrellas, he’s more of a scheming underworld figure. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a squawking, umbrella-waving super-villain if that’s who you are. This was just a different, darker take on the character, as pretty much everything in The Batman was.

HBO Max has yet to announce and official release date for their Penguin series or The Batman 2.

  • Media narrative of US election: Bad news for Trump, GOP

Media narrative of US election: Bad news for Trump, GOP

NEW YORK — Americans awoke Wednesday to Election Day outcomes that remained nearly as murky as the night before: “House, Senate control still hangs in the balance,” a CNN caption blared.

Yet if the results of midterm elections hadn’t solidified, the media narrative clearly had. Good night for Democrats. Bad night for Republicans. Bad night, especially, for Donald Trump.

This quick analysis took shape despite the very real possibility that Republicans would wind up wresting control of one or both houses of Congress from the Democrats. From the coverage’s perspective, Republicans had failed to meet expectations.

“Republicans wildly underperformed, and heads should roll,” conservative commentator Ben Shapiro tweeted.

The Washington Post’s website headlined, “Congress Hangs in the Balance as Democrats Defy Expectations.”

The New York Times headlined, “Control of Congress Hinges on Closely Fought Races.” Yet further headlines on the newspaper’s site said there were no signs of a red wave that Republicans expected, and the lead analysis story was about why an expected GOP rout fell short.

The Times’ closely watched “Needle,” which barely budged much of Tuesday night, predicted Wednesday afternoon that the Democrats had a 66 percent chance of controlling the Senate, and the Republicans an 83 percent chance of winning the House.

Trump, who opted not to announce a 2024 candidacy the night before the election, faced a particularly rough media assessment.

A Washington Post analysis explained, “why the 2022 election was such a disaster for Trump.”

The New York Post, overlooking the governor’s race in its home state, put Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Trump rival on its cover, standing before a huge American flag. “DeFuture,” was the headline.

Fox News’ website ran a steady stream of stories with damaging headlines: “Trump-endorsed Vance doesn’t mention former president in victory speech.” “Republican Brad Raffensperger, reviled by Trump, wins again in Georgia.” And “Conservatives point finger at Trump after GOP’s underwhelming elections results.”

“This ended up being a referendum on crazy,” said MSNBC commentator Donny Deutsch on Wednesday.

Armed with statistics and projections on election night, television networks were wary of drawing conclusions about the closely divided nation’s political future. The night’s first big story, DeSantis’ big win, was favorable for Republicans.

But as Tuesday night slipped into Wednesday morning, the story of what was not happening for the GOP became the main talking point.

“Republicans will have some soul searching to do here,” said Fox News Channel’s Dana Perino.

Kellyanne Conway, the former Trump aide who was a commentator on Fox, grew impatient at one point with on-set discussions about Republicans not performing up to expectations or hopes.

“It’s enough,” she said. “We’ll take it.”

Television networks made an extra effort on Tuesday to have personnel on hand to deal with threats to democracy, such as election deniers or attempts to prevent voting. Instead, there wasn’t much for them to do.

Through it all, news organizations stressed transparency, and how counting election results had become more difficult because of increased early voting and different state rules in how the vote was counted.

“This is more complicated than it was 10 years ago,” CNN’s John King said, “because people are voting in different ways.”

  • Disney Wants to Make an ‘Indiana Jones’ TV Series

Disney Wants to Make an ‘Indiana Jones’ TV Series

Disney has already turned Marvel and Star Wars from movie franchises into Disney+ properties. Now, they’ve reportedly begun exploring the possibility of an Indiana Jones series. This news comes as the company is finishing a fifth Indiana Jones film, which was recently filmed; Harrison Ford is set to star in the latest sequel, which will presumably be his last outing in the character’s signature fedora.

According to Variety, Disney and Lucasfilm “have specifically been bringing up the possibility of a streaming show set in the world of the globe trotting archaeologist in general meetings with writers of late.” That suggests the concept is in extremely early stages, so it is totally unclear whether this show would reboot the Indiana Jones concept, or be tied in some way to the upcoming Indiana Jones 5.

This would not be the first Indiana Jones television series. George Lucas created The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in 1992, which followed the adventures of young Indy at two different ages: As a young boy and as a teenager. The show lasted for two seasons of 28 episodes, plus a handful of television movies.

James Mangold is directing Indiana Jones 5, and it would seem that he makes a great fit. He’s helmed a number of extremely successful films, including Logan3:10 to Yuma, and Walk the Line. George Lucas had actually worked on a potential fifth Indiana Jones prior to selling Lucasfilm to Disney, but nothing ever came of it. David Koepp and Jonathan Kasdan also jumped onto the project to write for a while, but that script was scrapped as well. The current version was penned by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Technically, Steven Spielberg is the only director the series has ever had, but that ends with this entry. He vacated the director’s chair back in 2020, and instead took a producer role.

Indiana Jones 5 is due for release in movie theaters on June 30, 2023.

World Cup ambassador from Qatar denounces homosexuality

BERLIN — An ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar has described homosexuality as a “damage in the mind” in an interview with German public broadcaster ZDF only two weeks before the opening of the soccer tournament in the Gulf state, highlighting concerns about the conservative country’s treatment of gays and lesbians.

Former Qatari national team player Khalid Salman told a German reporter in an interview that being gay is “haram,” or forbidden in Arabic, and that he has a problem with children seeing gay people.

Excerpts of the television interview were shown Monday on the ZDF news program Heute Journal. The full interview, which is part of a documentary, will be shown Tuesday on ZDF.

About 1.2 million international visitors are expected in Qatar for the tournament, which has faced criticism and skepticism ever since the gas-rich emirate was selected as host by FIFA in December 2010. Concerns about LGBTQ tourists attending the World Cup have also been expressed for a long time.

In the interview, Salman also said that homosexuality “is a spiritual harm.”

“During the World Cup, many things will come here to the country. Let’s talk about gays,” Salman said in English, which is simultaneously dubbed into German in the TV segment. “The most important thing is, everybody will accept that they come here. But they will have to accept our rules.”

The interview was cut short by a media officer of the World Cup organizing committee after Salman expressed his views on homosexuals, ZDF reported.

  • Netflix Launches Tier With Ads, But Some Shows Are Missing

Netflix Launches Tier With Ads, But Some Shows Are Missing

Those who cut the cord in favor of Netflix as an alternative to television with ads … well, you can still pay a few bucks extra and watch that way.

But for those wanting to save a few dollars who don’t mind sitting through a couple of ads, Netflix has officially launched a version of their streaming service that is cheaper but does include commercial interruptions. According to Netflix’s official website, it’s called “Basic with Ads — a plan with everything people love about Netflix, at a lower price, with a few ads in-between.”

They claim that “Tiffany & Co.’s ad featuring Beyoncé was the first ad to ever run on the service in Canada on November 1, and members in twelve countries can expect to see ads from several of the world’s most recognized brands, such as GM, L’Oreal, McDonald’s, LVMH, Subway, Target, Heinz and Carnival Cruises.” If that matters to you.

The new plan costs $6.99 a month, compared with $9.99 for the Basic Plan without ads, and $15.49 for the Standard Plan, and $19.99 for the Premium Plan. Here’s how each shakes out:

While the vast majority of Netflix’s catalogue is available on the “Basic With Ads” tier, not everything that comes with the Standard plan is included there. Ad tier customers can’t watch House of Cards, for example, which was technically made by an outside production company, not Netflix. The same goes for other popular titles like Arrested DevelopmentThe CrownCobra Kai, and Peaky Blinders. They’re only available at tiers without ads.

As the graphic above also indicates, if you sign up for Basic With Ads you lose the ability to download titles to watch them later offline. If you watch Netflix a lot on a tablet while traveling, that might be a dealbreaker.

Kang’s Surprising Connection to the MCU’s Magic Weapons

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer gave us our first good look at Kang, and his kingdom in the Quantum Realm. And one particular aspect of his home caught our eye: The enormous rings that circle around the central pyramid. Any Marvel fan knows: These rings look very familiar. They’re basically bigger versions of the Ten Rings, the magical weapons wielded by Shang-Chi in his movie. And they don’t look that much different from the bangle worn by Ms. Marvel on her show either.

In our latest video, we explore how all of these places and objects — Kang’s palace in the Quantum Realm, Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings, Ms. Marvel’s bangle — might all be connected. And we examine how the Quantum Realm might be the source of all mystical power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plus, we speculate about what all of this means for QuantumaniaThe MarvelsAvengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Check out the full video below:

  • Netflix Renews ‘The Sandman‘ For Season 2

Netflix Renews ‘The Sandman‘ For Season 2

The Sandman premiered on Netflix way back in early August, and spent most of that month at or near the top of Netflix’s most-watched shows list. (In its first week on the air, Netlfix users watched 69.4 million hours of the series. In its second week, they watched 127.5 million more.) But for whatever reason — maybe the budget, maybe the fact that unlike most Netflix originals, the material is owned by another massive media company, that being Warner Bros. Discovery, whose DC Comics is the literary home to the Sandman character (and whose HBO Max is home to almost every other DC TV series) — they were very slow to order a second season of the show.

The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman has been keeping fans up to date on developments with the series and its future since August. Back in September, he posted this on his Twitter account.

This week, he posted a much happier message.

The TV series version of The Sandman spent years in development, following decades spent trying to turn the acclaimed comic series into a movie. The show that finally arrived on Netflix was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg and starred Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, the personification of dreams and the lord of the Dreaming. The first season of the show largely adapted the first volume of The Sandman comics, Preludes & Nocturnes. The original Sandman comic originally spanned 75 issues and 10 volumes, and Gaiman has expanded on the story with various spinoffs and sequels through the years, so there is still loads of material the show can adapt.

The first season of The Sandman is now streaming on Netflix. Here’s our full season breakdown:

  • ‘Andor’ Episode 9: Full Easter Egg Breakdown

‘Andor’ Episode 9: Full Easter Egg Breakdown

Before he made Star Wars, George Lucas directed a hard sci-fi movie titled THX 1138 about a dystopian future where humanity takes drugs to suppress their emotions. (While the movie is fairly obscure, you probably know its title because Lucas named his sound company, THX, after it.) This week’s episode of Andor is full of references to THX 1138, mostly visual ones: The way the characters wear all-white jumpsuits and live in all-white rooms, while they toil away in underground facilities.

That’s one of the many Easter eggs, Star Wars (and George Lucas) references, and little details you might have missed in Episode 9 of Andor. In our latest Star Wars video, we break down all of them, including the recurring image and idea of fish trapped in nets, parallels between the Rebel and Imperial characters plotlines and life situations, the scene that echoes a near-identical shot from Star Wars: A New Hope, and the connection between Andor and The Shawshank Redemption. Watch them all below:

  • If You Gave Up on ‘Andor,’ It’s Time To Give It Another Shot

If You Gave Up on ‘Andor,’ It’s Time To Give It Another Shot

If I did not help run a website that covers Star Wars, I would have given up on Andor after two episodes. That was likely clear if you read what I wrote the week of Andor’s debut, “If You Like Watching Diego Luna Walk Around, You’ll Love Andor.” Reader, I do not like watching Diego Luna walk around, at least not at that length or with that much frequency. I thought big chunks of the three-episode premiere were flat-out boring.

Six episodes later, I think Andor, created by Tony Gilroy, has evolved into one of the best Star Wars shows on Disney+. It’s certainly the most interesting.

Admittedly, it’s still not the most thrillingly paced. For the second straight week, the show’s title character has spent the entire episode locked up as a prison laborer for the Empire. His main adversary, an Imperial Security Bureau officer named Dedra Meero (Denish Gough), made very little progress in her investigation into Rebel activity — and she still does not know that Andor has already been imprisoned (under an alias) for a minor crime. (Andor, meanwhile, does not even know Meero exists.) Several key characters, including Stellan Skarsgard’s Luthen Rael, do not play a role on this week’s Andor. This is not a Star Wars TV series for people who want non-stop action. (Or, for that matter, intermittent action.)

But there are plenty of Star Wars movies and shows that provide that sort of stuff. Andor, like its title character, has taken a different path. It focuses on the nuts and bolts of life in the Star Wars galaxy, showing the step-by-step process by which the Rebel Alliance grew — and the step-by-step process by which the Empire controlled its citizens through fear and overwhelming power. Although the show does not treat the Rebels and Empire as moral equivalents — the Rebels are fighting for freedom while the Imperials torture their enemies and imprison them in perpetuity after sham trials — it does empathize with the mindset of the individuals within the Empire, who must navigate the personal and professional pitfalls of life within a corrupt and sadistic organization. While Andor remains in a literal prison, all of its main characters are trapped in one way or another.

While Andor’s time in prison hasn’t been especially eventful from a story standpoint, it’s been a tonally effective chapter of the series’ overall story. His work on an assembly line building pieces of Imperial technology (likely for use in the Death Star) serves as a metaphor for the entire show: How repressive governments create a system of control, and how they make their subjects accessories to their own oppression as cogs in an enormous machine designed only to enrich the few at the very top of the chain of command.

In hindsight, these prison scenes also add interesting context to those early episodes where Andor wandered endlessly on the planet Ferrix. Now Andor’s freedom has been stripped away; one wrong step in any direction can get him fried by the Imperial prison’s deadly, electrified floor. The way Andor’s existence has been upended serves as a microcosm of the way the Empire is tightening its grip over the entire galaxy. It’s bleak stuff — like the final act of The Empire Strikes Back stretched across multiple hours.

Another pleasant aspect of Andor: It is a prequel that is almost impossible to anticipate from a story perspective. Sure, Cassian Andor himself can’t die; he’s got to escape that space jail eventually and show up at the start of Rogue One to steal the Death Star plans. But from episode to episode, his journey, along with the evolution of many of the supporting characters, has defied prognostication. (Did you think Andor would spend two episodes in prison hanging out with Andy Serkis? I sure didn’t!)

The season’s final three episodes (and Andor’s upcoming second season) will wrestle with many enticing questions. Will Syril Karn (Kyle Soller), the obsessive former “corpo” who first recognized Cassian Andor’s illicit activities, convince Meero to help him? Will Syril rise through the Imperial ranks, or will he grow so frustrated with his inability to navigate its bureaucracy that he eventually joins the Rebels? Will Serkis’ character aid Andor’s budding escape attempt or expose it? We just don’t know — a refreshing change of pace from just about everything else in Star Wars in the last few years, which has been occasionally fun and exciting, but rarely this unpredictable.

I’m still not sure Andor couldn’t have worked just as well at, say, nine episodes instead of 12. But I will admit I have gone from dreading having to watch this series every Wednesday to actively looking forward to it. And suddenly I find myself thinking the plan for the rest of the series — which will supposedly compress the next four years of Andor’s pre-Rogue One life into a quartet of three-episode arcs — does not seem like an expansive enough palette to conclude this story in satisfying fashion. Then again, if Season 2 features this caliber of writing with a lot less aimless walking, it could be the perfect Star Wars TV show.

HBO Announces ‘The Last Of Us’ Premiere Date

Naughty Dog really are the kings of cinematic games. Their Uncharted series was obviously inspired by films like Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone, and then got a movie of its own earlier this year starring Tom Holland. Next, their epic zombie saga, The Last of Us, will be turned into a sprawling TV series on HBO. After months of anticipation, the show now has its official premiere date. The Last of Us (the TV show) will premiere on HBO on Sunday, January 15 at 9PM ET/PT.

The show is drawn closely from the PlayStation games (Game co-director and writer Neil Druckmann wrote and produced the show with Craig Mazin), and stars Pedro Pascal as Joel opposite Bella Ramsey as Ellie. The rest of the cast includes Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, and Storm Reid.

There is a new poster for the series as well.

If you missed the trailer for the show when that debuted in September, you can watch it below.

Here is the series’ official synopsis:

THE LAST OF US takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The first season of The Last of Us will span nine weekly episodes. The shows will be available in 4K on HBO Max.

  • Marvel Finds Star For ‘Wonder Man’ TV Series

Marvel Finds Star For ‘Wonder Man’ TV Series

A hero (and villain!) from DC is crossing over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It looks like the reported (but not officially announced) Marvel TV series based on the long-running Avenger character Wonder Man has found its lead actor. Variety reports that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been chosen to play Simon Williams, the man who becomes the Marvel hero known as Wonder Man.

The character has a somewhat complicated backstory in Marvel Comics, so it remains to be seen how much or how little of his established continuity gets utilized in the series. In the pages of The Avengers, Williams first appeared as a villain who blames Tony Stark for his going to jail after a business scheme gone wrong. He is given super powers by Baron Zemo and joins the Avengers as a spy on Zemo’s behalf, but then decides to use his powers to help the team and dies a hero.

Years later, Wonder Man was resurrected and became a long-standing member of the Avengers and West Coast Avengers teams; he frequently fought with his brother, who became the super-villain known as the Grim Reaper. In one of Wonder Man’s more famous periods, he uses his powers of strength and invulnerability to become a successful Hollywood stuntman. Variety claims it “does seem likely” that this will be the version of the character in the TV show “as Ben Kingsley is set to return as failed-actor-turned-reformed-villain Trevor Slattery, which he originated in 2013’s Iron Man 3 and reprised in Shang-Chi.”

Abdul-Mateen previously appeared as Doctor Manhattan in the HBO miniseries version of Watchmen. He also plays the villainous Black Manta in Aquaman and its upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Of course, Abdul-Mateen would be far from the first actor to play both Marvel and DC superheroes (or supervillains).

The Wonder Man series is being developed at Marvel by writer Andrew Guest and director Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously made Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and is also expected to direct the upcoming Avengers sequel, The Kang Dynasty.

  • A ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series Is Coming to Peacock

A ‘Friday the 13th’ Prequel Series Is Coming to Peacock

For much of the 1980s and into the 1990s, the Friday the 13th series was as dependable as death and taxes. Every year or so, Jason Voorhees would rise from the grave to torture the latest batch of visitors to Camp Crystal Lake or, eventually, folks in Manhattan or even outer space.

The entire franchise was rebooted in 2009, but while the movie was a financial success like almost every other Friday the 13th film, it marked the end of the franchise, at least in the short term. Various sequels or reboots were developed, but nothing ever made it to the screen. Jason finally got to enjoy a few Fridays off, that lucky guy.

But it looks like Camp Crystal Lake is about to see a major uptick in teenage murders, as Peacock has announced they are developing a Friday the 13th prequel series. Dubbed Crystal Lake, the show will be created by Bryan Fuller, the man behind the Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs prequel television series Hannibal. Fuller’s other shows include American Gods and Star Trek Discovery.

Also involved is Victor Miller, the man who wrote the original Friday the 13th screenplay. Last year, Miller, who is an executive producer on the show, won a lawsuit that granted him the rights to his original script — although it’s worth noting that (spoiler alert!) in the original Friday the 13th movie from 1980, it was Jason‘s mother rather than Jason himself, who was the killer. Additionally, Jason never appeared in the original film in his trademark hockey mask. That could perhaps explain the decision to make a prequel, since Jason wouldn’t be the killer on such a show anyway.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning

Fuller seems like a smart choice for this sort of material; he knows how to make something interesting and modern with preexisting IP, and how to make a disturbing TV series. It may be worth noting this is not the first Friday the 13th show; a syndicated TV series aired for three seasons in the late 1980s. That show, though, had essentially no connection to Camp Crystal Lake or Jason Voorhees or any of the events of the movies.

We’re gonna guess the new show will be a little bit closer to the source material.

  • Bigg Boss 16: Salman Khan orders Abdu Rozik out of the house

Bigg Boss 16: Salman Khan orders Abdu Rozik out of the house

Bigg Boss 16 is getting dramatic every day. The dramatic nominations this week saw names of contestants like Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia, Gautam Vig, Gori Nagori, Tina Datta, Soundarya Sharma, Abdu Rozik and Shiv Thakare. Salman Khan is not happy with the participants. He has said that as everyone has nominated Abdu the fact that he has a lot of fans and shall not leave the house, the singer is leaving the house. Salman gave an order to Abdu to come out of the house immediately. Abdu is seen standing from his place with a sad face.

Soundarya Sharma and Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia cannot believe the truth and Nimrit is seen breaking down into tears. She even tries to stop Abdu. Earlier, Salman had revealed that Abdu was the only contestant in the Bigg Boss show who was playing the game without any filter. He has not done any arguments in the show till now. He has not gotten into any arguments on the show till now and his points are conveyed in front of the audience. When he was upset with Sajid Khan, Sumbul Touqeer and Archana Gautam, his anger and sadness were seen clearly by all.

Watch the video of Abdu Rozik leaving Bigg Boss 16 house.

Salman on the other hand is also seen giving a taunt to Ankit Gupta and saying that Abdu’s calm nature is working for the fans as he knows where and how to react. He knows about the changing dynamics in the Bigg Boss house and Abdu is not someone who likes to change. Reportedly, as per a report by the Khabri channel which is a Bigg Boss fan account, Abdu will not leave the show as no evictions took place this week. Meanwhile, Ankit is calm but that part of him is creating chaos in his own game as he is not standing out as a participant. Salman even thanked Abdu for not listening to Archana’s piece of advice about being angry and doing things that were right for him.

  • Vision TV Series Reportedly In Development

Vision TV Series Reportedly In Development

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness built directly off the events of the WandaVision television series, to show what happened to Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch after she lost her family. But as compelling as Wanda’s story was in Multiverse of Madness, a crucial aspect was missing. Vision, played by Paul Bettany, never showed up in the film even thought he wasn’t technically dead.

The end of WandaVision introduced a second version of the Vision, clad all in white, which was essentially a reanimated version of the original Vision’s body without his personality. (Stay with us.) Then in the season finale, this white Vision actually received some measure of the Vision’s mind and memories.

This dangling plot thread was left hanging through the rest of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is about to wrap up in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever next month. But if the latest rumors are true, we may see it resolved a year or two down the road on Disney+. According to The Hot Mic YouTube show, Marvel is in the process of “opening a writer’s room for a Vision show titled VisionQuest.” The room will supposedly get to work on hashing out the material “next week.”

In Marvel Comics, the phrase “VisionQuest” was used by writer/artist John Byrne as the title of a key storyline during his run of the West Coast Avengers comic. (In the 1980s, the main Avengers book got a spin off title, featuring a group of heroes based in California; the main Avengers were headquartered in New York City.) During the “VisionQuest” storyline, the Vision is kidnapped and disassembled, and his mind is erased. The Avengers rescue him, but when they put him back together, they can’t restore his full memory or personality. In the process, Vision also loses his red and green coloring and becomes bright white from head to toe — in other words, he looks like the version of the character who appeared at the end of WandaVision.

    2. The Vision Mirrors His Comic Book Storyline
    Marvel

Given where things stand at the end of Multiverse of Madness (and the fact that there are no West Coast Avengers in the MCU), a VisionQuest Disney+ series would have to be very different in terms of plot than Byrne’s version. But the basic idea — of Vision rediscovering or reshaping his identity, perhaps with the help of some of his old Avengers allies — could absolutely be the focus.

Marvel has yet to announce the release dates for any of its upcoming Phase Five Disney+ TV series, but both Secret Invasion and What If…? are expected to premiere at some point in early 2023. You can watch the full episode of The Hot Mic below.

  • Marvel May Have Revealed Emilia Clarke‘s ‘Secret Invasion’ Role

Marvel May Have Revealed Emilia Clarke‘s ‘Secret Invasion’ Role

Marvel‘s always extremely careful to keep new developments under wraps. That’s why it’s so strange that they may have leaked the identity of Emilia Clarke’s character. Fans have known that she’d be appearing in Secret Invasion for a while, but nobody knew who she was playing. The show is coming to Disney+ next year, and it has huge implications for the MCU going forward.

Marvel was reportedly adding gifs from Secret Invasion into the Tenor GIF database. Eventually, they added one of Emilia Clark saying the phrase: “It’s the beginning.” When fans took a look at the filename in the database, they realized something. The filename was “it’s the beginning abigail brand.” They matched it against the other files of known characters, which pretty much followed the same format.

That seems to mean that Emilia Clark is almost surely playing Abigail Brand on Secret Invasion. But who exactly is Abigail Brand? In Marvel Comics, she’s the leader of S.W.O.R.D., which is a sister organization to S.H.I.E.L.D. S.W.O.R.D. is responsible for defending the Earth from extraterrestrial threats. Aside from all of her affiliations, she’s also just a really interesting character on her own.

In general, a lot of people tend to be fairly wary of Brand, especially Nick Fury. At least in the comics, Brand is also half-alien, with her father belonging to an unnamed race. While Nick Fury is a little suspicious of Abigail Brand, she’s extremely important to the Secret Invasion storyline. When the Skrulls show up and start wreaking havoc on earth, she quickly becomes one of the main players in driving them away.

As of now, there’s no official date for the Disney+ premiere of Secret Invasion. All we know is that it’ll be streaming on the service sometime next year.
