The Last of Usis definitely not dying (or being reborn as a fungal-infected monster) any time soon.
HBO announced today that it had officially renewed its new hit series, based on the PlayStation video game, for a second season. The renewal comes a few days after the second episode of The Last of Us was watched by 5.7 million viewers on the channel as well as HBO Max. Those numbers actually represent a 22 percent increase from the premiere — the largest such week two jump in the history of HBO. Meaning much like the infection that brings about the end of civilization in the show, The Last of Us is spreading rapidly.
Here was The Last of Us co-creator (and The Last of Us game writer and co-director) Neil Druckmann had this to say about the renewal:
I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you!
Druckmann and co-creator Craig Mazin have previously said they wanted to make more seasons of the show — but not forever. The first season airing now on HBO adapts the first The Last of Us game. While they have said adapting the second game, The Last of Us Part II, may require more than one season of television, they plan to make those seasons then end. They do not intend to keep the story open-ended. (“I don’t see this as something that runs on and on and on. We don’t have that ambition. Our ambition is to tell the story that exists, as best as we can, in a different medium,” Mazin said.)

HBO Max’s The Last of Us is proving to be incredibly popular. That’ll only be helped by the fact that they’ve made the first episode free on their platform. Reviews for the show have been resoundingly positive everywhere, which is kind of huge. It’s not often that TV and movies that use video games as source material come out to much fanfare, but The Last of Us has managed to pull it off. The first season of the show is nine episodes long, and it follows Joel (portrayed by Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they navigate their way through a post-apocalyptic environment. The world has been ravaged by the Cordyceps fungus, turning most of humanity into creatures very much resembling zombies.
Perhaps one of the main reasons for the show’s success was the cinematic nature of the original games. They’re filled with well-acted and well-directed cutscenes. Additionally, Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director behind the games in the franchise, co-created the series for HBO with Craig Mazin. This obviously made for an incredibly faithful adaptation. So far, it’s widely considered to be one of the best video game adaptations ever.
Initially, the series was going to be a feature-length film, but after years stuck in development hell, plans changed. Eventually, in 2020, it was announced that a TV series was in its planning phase. There were a few stumbling blocks here and there, but overall, the production was smooth. In fact, it’s believed to be one of the biggest productions in Canadian history.

Every Video Game Movie Ever Made, Ranked From Worst to Best
It’s not slowing down anytime soon, anyway. Fox announced today that they had renewed the longest-running scripted primetime series in history for two additional seasons. That will bring the show to its 36th season on the air, which will be in the fall of 2024 through the spring of 2025. At the same time, Fox also renewed its other long-running (though not that long-running) animated sitcoms, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers.

To put The Simpsons renewal into perspective: When the show first debuted the first George Bush was President of the United States. Seinfeld debuted that same year, and then ended its run on TV nine years later … which was in 1998, 25 years ago. And The Simpsons has been producing new episodes every single year since then. (Yes, this year is the 25th anniversary of The Simpsons’ ninth season, which included such classic gags as the Canyonero.)
And yet after all that time Bart Simpson is still in the fourth grade. Man The Simpsons makes me feel old.
New episodes of The Simpsons continue to air — as they have for more than 30 years now — on Sunday nights at 8PM ET on Fox.
In the increasingly competitive world of Super Bowl ads, one surefire way to attract attention in recent years is for a brand to partner with established actors or a show and bring back beloved characters that viewers haven’t been seen in a while and have them hawk life insurance or luxury automobiles or toilet paper or whatever. Last year, for example, viewers got to see Meadow and AJ Soprano again … in a commercial for Chevrolet (directed by The Sopranos creator David Chase, no less).
This year, a chip company has engineered a similar reunion, as PopCorners has already begun teasing a commercial featuring the stars of Breaking Bad: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, each reprising their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in a spot about the company’s snacks.
In one, Walter and Jesse are seen back in their signature R.V., PopCorners in hand.
In another, Paul is seen seated near the R.V. indulging in the crunchy and wholesome popped-corn snack while on the telephone.
Y’know “white cheddar” does sound like some kind of euphemism for drugs. So I guess that sort of works? Otherwise, I never really pictured Jesse and Walter slamming popcorn chips. (Maybe the bright blue bag was the connection they were going for, since it vaguely shares the same color as Walter and Jesse’s famous meth? I don’t know, I’m reaching here.)
Since the end of Breaking Bad in 2013, Paul and Cranston have appeared together in the Breaking Bad movie El Camino in 2019, and in the final season of the spinoff series Better Call Saul back in 2022. The Super Bowl airs on Sunday, February 12 on Fox. Look for the full Breaking Bad “reunion” then.

Expect major changes to Rick and Mortyin the near future.
That’s because Adult Swim announced today that they had cut ties with the series’ co-creator — and the voice of the two title characters — Justin Roiland, after news broke earlier this month that he had been charged with domestic violence.
In a tweet posted to the official Rick and Morty Twitter account, the network wrote “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7.”
As Roiland previously voiced both Rick and Morty, the roles will need to be recast for all future episodes.
The charges against Roiland date back to an incident in 2020 involving an unnamed woman Roiland was dating at the time. Roiland was charged in May of that year with two felonies: Domestic battery with corporeal injury, and false imprisonment. Roiland has pled not guilty to the charges.
A trial date in the case has not yet been set; another hearing is scheduled for April. When news of the case broke earlier this month, Roiland’s attorney stated “it is hard to overstate how inaccurate the recent media coverage of this situation has been. To be clear, not only is Justin innocent but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence. We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”
Since its debut in 2013, Rick and Morty has become one of Adult Swim’s biggest shows. It was renewed for an astounding 70 episodes back in 2018. To date, just 30 of those episodes have been produced and aired, leaving another 40 for the remaining cast and crew to create.
The fate of Roiland’s other projects remains unclear. His animated series Solar Opposites was renewed by Hulu in the fall of last year. Hulu also has the rights to a new series, Koala Man, which debuted on the streaming service just a few weeks ago. Hulu has yet to publicly comment on the charges against Roiland, or his fate with the company. But Roiland’s video game studio, Squanch Games, announced just a few hours ago on Twitter that Roiland had resigned.

I would say it reflects on your personality. It shows who they are in.” She says that she told Archana Gautam not to comment on people’s profession on the show. Soundarya Sharma tells us that she saw the video clip where Priyanka Chahar Choudhary was laughing about her along with Shalin Bhanot, Tina Datta and Sreejita De. “I was appalled to see her in that discussion. But then God bless them. They are complex people. I would say they are like trolls,” she says. Talking about Archana Gautam, she said, “I do not have insecurity about people stealing my limelight. I never felt threatened by Archana Gautam. I only told her to be a good listener. Our bond is genuine and not one made out of convenience. We will be friends.” Commenting on Shalin Bhanot and Tina Datta’s much-talked about love story, she said, “They are two matured individuals. They know what are doing on the show. Now, the whole world knows what they share.” The model and actress is angry with the two. She says, “Shalin Bhanot is a crackpot. He has said the shittiest things about me. Even Tina Datta. Yeh naa unke sanskaar main hai. I have never ignored all this. There are people who have laughed with him when he made such comments. Now, they are talking about women empowerment. She says Priyanka Chahar Choudhary is a selective Sacchai Ki Murat on the show. “She stuck to people who spoke rubbish. When Shiv Thakare raised the matter of Gautam Vig no one stood up for me. Inside, people when they say something about others, they want to feed that narrative to fans. But you cannot rise by pulling others down.” The actress’ says now everyone will talk about women empowerment, sexism and what not. “People who did not stand up for me, it reflects on them. Now, they need content so they will raise such issues on the show,” she signs off.

The following post contains SPOILERS for the first two episodes of The Last of Us.
The Last of Us isn’t just a great adaptation of a video game; it’s an extremely faithful one. Besides the characters, the backstories, and the premise, the first two episodes of HBO’s adaptation include images and even lines of dialogue lifted straight out of the game. Some moments combine both — like when Ellie gazes out at the ruined skyline of Boston and remarks “But man, you can’t deny that view.” Heck, a lot of the characters wear the same clothes as in the game.
For all those similarities, though, there is one really major change to the world of The Last of Us on television, and that’s how the Cordyceps fungal infection is spread. In The Last of Us games, the infection can be passed through bites, just like all good zombie infections get passed from person to person. But in the games they can also be passed through spores which hang in the air.
Episode 2 of the show makes it clear that that’s not the case in this version of The Last of Us. While bites are still just as deadly — at least for people who aren’t Ellie — the uninfected no longer need to worry about Cordyceps spores, or carry around gas masks like they did in the game. Instead, like some real-life fungus, the Last of Us show’s infected share a kind of hive mind that is also connected to the Cordyceps that’s all around our heroes as they make their way through the ruined city. And because all the infected are connected, a noise in one place can awaken hundreds of zombies somewhere else, who will then race to wherever that sound was heard.
In the “Inside the Episode” aired after The Last of Us Episode 2 on HBO, series co-creator Craig Mazin explained why this fairly significant change was made to the series’ zombie mythology. “In the game,” Mazin said, “[the infection] spreads through biting and saliva but it can also spread through the air, through spores. And while that works in a video game environment, in real life spores move around everywhere. And it’s just harder to buy into the notion that spores localize and don’t spread.”
It might seem at first glance like the TV series would be less scary than the game if the characters can’t catch the infection at any moment just by breathing in a stray spore. After all, the first episode of the show played up the connections between the show’s fungal infection and our own pandemic of the last few years, when an errant cough or sneeze has felt like a potentially fatal act. Removing the airborne component of the Cordyceps infection could potentially blunt some of the show’s allegorical impact.
In practice, though, this Last of Us episode was still extremely scary. By turning the infected into a hive mind that works along what Mazin calls the “wood-wide web,” and can be activated at any moment, the show has even more dread than segments of the game. Now any wrong step can put the characters in peril in seconds. The change also gives the show room to try new things; to surprise viewers with sequences they won’t anticipate because they’ll also be different from the game. After all, scares aren’t quite as terrifying if you know they’re coming.
Plus, now The Last of Us doesn’t have to stick Pedro Pascal in a gas mask for 20 minutes every week or two.

One of the things that made people curious was the Dubai angle of Soundarya Sharma. Shalin Bhanot said that Gautam Vig told him stuff about Soundarya which he cannot say on the show. She tells us, “I met Tina, Shalin and Gautam on this show only. I understood on the show that Tina Datta knew me through social media. As far as I know, Gautam can never say anything so derogatory. He knows to respect women. I believe in visuals. Soundarya Sharma said that Tina Datta and Shalin Bhanot have said the most derogatory and demeaning things about women on Bigg Boss 16. She says, “Tina Datta has said the shittiest of things about me, my clothes and what not. She has indulged in slut-shaming of every woman. What do I say about Shalin? He has crossed all his limits. This is baseless. I do not care about what they have said.”
She says this just reflects on their upbringing and she does not wish to indulge in such dirt.

He told him that they would arrange a therapist/ psychiatrist for him if he had mental health issues. He said that the loneliness was playing with his mental health. After four movies and six seasons, The Karate Kidsaga will finally come to an end.
That’s the word from Netflix today, as they announced that Cobra Kai, the sequel series to the original Karate Kid films, will return for a sixth season on the streamer — but that that season will also be the end of the series.
As part of the news, series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg sent a letter to fans, which reads in part:
Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming Season Six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger.
The news also came with a video teaser for the sixth season:
Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg’s letter also did say “we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line.” But they didn’t specify what that means. Sony recently announced a new Karate Kid movie, which these same trio of creators then revealed they were not connected to and not working on. They did say at that time that they would “love” to make a Karate Kid or Cobra Kai movie someday, so perhaps that is what this announcement is teasing.

The much-anticipated third season of Ted Lasso will premiere soon, Apple announced this week. The series hasn’t been seen since the summer of 2021, when Season 2 aired weekly on Apple TV+. The streaming service has yet to announce a specific date for Season 3; saying only for now that it’s coming in “Spring 2023.”
Apple also unveiled a first image from the season which shows Ted squaring off against his former protégé turned rival Nate (Nick Mohammad), who is now coaching AFC Richmond’s sworn rivals, West Ham United. (The club is owned by Richmond’s former owner Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head), who’s seen in the background behind Ted and Nate.

There, Mando had second thoughts about leaving Grogu with Luke Skywalker to train to be a Jedi, which was essentially how The Mandalorian Season 2 ended. (If you watched The Mandalorian but skipped The Book of Boba Fett, uh, you missed a lot.)
