    The following post contains SPOILERS for The Mandalorian Season 3, as evidenced by the headline which specifies that this is all the stuff that wasn’t explained in Season 3. But I just want to be sure you understand that. 

    Well, it’s been quite a year on The Mandalorian. A second actor was added to the main cast (Katee Sackoff, who plays Bo-Katan). New alliances were forged. Darksabers were exchanged and wielded (and — gasp — broken). Old villains returned to menace our heroes for a second time. Dead allies were turned into vehicles for other characters to ride around in. A lot changed. Things happened. Stuff went down.

    But not everything was resolved; not even some of the new twists that this season introduced then seemed to forget about amidst a swirl of new storylines, settings, characters, and conflicts. And some of our biggest questions going into the season were not only left unanswered, they were never even addressed.

    Now that The Mandalorian is back in a Bacta tank recharging for its eventual and inevitable Season 4, let’s take a look back at the past eight episodes, and all of the questions they left unresolved.     He may not have actually appeared onscreen until last week’s episode, but the big villain this season of The Mandalorian (much like last season, even though he was captured at the end of last season, life is funny like that sometimes) is Moff Gideon.     Former Nickelodeon child star turned musician Drake Bell has had a storied career. That’s why there was so much concern over him going missing. Bell went missing for a bit on Wednesday night. Specifically, he was reported “missing and endangered” by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Bell was found the next day.

    The Daytona Beach Police Department then issued a statement on the situation: “** UPDATE: 4/13/2023 1:26p.m. – At this time, we can confirm law enforcement officials are in contact and Mr. Bell is safe.”

    After the situation calmed down, Bell explained his “disappearance,” tweeting a quip about how he had just left his phone in the car for the night. In the replies, fans are still expressing concern.

    Bell worked steadily in Hollywood from an early age. In addition to his starring roles on Nickelodeon shows, he also appeared in a series of Fairly OddParents movies, and has released several albums of music. He is also known for his voice work; he played Peter Parker and Spider-Man on the popular Ultimate Spider-Man Disney cartoon, and reprised the role on several other Marvel animated series.

    Bell has had run-ins with the last in the past. He was arrested in 2015 for driving under the influence, and in 2021 he pled guilty to a charge of attempted child endangerment over “inappropriate social media messages” he allegedly sent to a minor. (Bell later claimed he did not know the victim’s age at the time of the messages.) Bell was ultimate sentenced to probation and community service in the case.

    You never know who you might be sitting next to on an airplane. And these days, if that person is wearing a face mask of some kind, it can be really tricky.

    Check out this video for proof of that. It comes from The Office star Rainn Wilson, who shared a clip from a flight where he was seated next to an unnamed man who had absolutely no idea he was sitting next to said Rainn Wilson. In the video, which was recently posted to Wilson’s Instagram story, the actor very slowly pans over to show his neighbor on the flight eating some food and watching his television — specifically watching an episode of The Office. In fact, Wilson shows up onscreen during the video. It’s kind of surreal actually.

    The guy next to Wilson is seemingly oblivious to the fact that he’s sitting next to the dude who starred on nine seasons of The Office as Dwight Schrute. (Do you think he ever told him? Do you think someone who knows him saw the video and showed him?)

    Man, face masks must be a godsend for celebrities who want to travel or go out in public. Suddenly you’re anonymous again. There’s no way the dude sitting next to Wilson wouldn’t have recognized him without the mask. With it, he’s just another guy sitting on a flight.

    If you don’t have Rainn Wilson looking over your shoulder and you want to watch The Office at home, the full run of the series is currently available to stream on Peacock. We hear it’s available on most in-flight seatback entertainment systems as well.

    Eddie Munson Is Getting a ‘Stranger Things’ Origin Story Book

    Fans of Stranger Things fell in love with Eddie Munson when the character debuted in Season 4. Now, the character is getting his very own origin story in a prequel book set before the events of the series’ fourth season.

    Written by Caitlin Schneiderhan, Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus takes place in 1984, two years before the events of Season 4 of Stranger Things.

    According to Entertainment Weekly, the book’s plot centers around Eddie as he meets a music producer named Paige. In desperate need of money to make his dreams come true, Eddie gets involved with his father’s shady business dealings.

    Schneiderhan, who is currently working on the writing team for Season 5 of the hit Netflix show, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her excitement to share a new part of Eddie’s journey with fans of the show.

    “I’m so excited for fans to go with him on his journey towards becoming a hero, to experience the messy and uncomfortable decisions that led him to become the brave misfit we all know and love,” Schneiderhan told EW.

    Schneiderhan also revealed why she thinks the lovable D&D-playing metalhead has resonated so much with so many fans of the show.

    “Eddie is a person who is unfailingly, unapologetically himself, which is irresistible enough on its own. But add on the fact that he encourages the people around him to be the same? Who wouldn’t want to be friends with that guy?” Schneiderhan said.

    As part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s ongoing merger, they’re doing away with HBO Max. It is no more!

    In its place, there is now only Max — a new streaming service that will feature programming from both HBO (and other Warner Bros. properties) and from the Discovery library of content.

    In addition to the existing programming that will be on Max, today the company announced a whole host of new and returning shows, including:

    Per this tweet from the HBO Max Twitter account (which really needs to be renamed ASAP) the new service goes live on May 23.

    I’ll be honest; I do not entirely understand the impetus behind changing the name of HBO Max to Max if you are going to advertise it with the tagline “Max – The One to Watch For HBO.” Wasn’t that already clear when the service was called HBO Max?

    WBD is touting that the new service will include “premium video playback,” personalization options, more Kids content, simplified navigation, plus more 4K UHD content (at an extra price, of course). But ultimately, it’s a lot of hullabaloo for what amounts to a splashy rebranding of an existing service. HBO Max already has a lot of Discovery content on it, and some of the “new” programming that was just announced has been held over from the early days of HBO Max. (That Gremlins series was first announced way back in 2019, for example.) So make of this news what you will.

    It’s been almost a decade since True Detective debuted on HBO and became a sensation thanks to creator Nic Pizzolatto’s grittily poetic writing, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s kinetic direction, and stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s memorable performances. The second season of the anthology crime drama, starring Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, got great ratings too, but fared a lot worse with critics; the third season, featuring Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo, saw ratings drop precipitously even as reviews improved.

    That was over four years ago. Finally, True Detective is back with a new cast, a new bunch of creators, and a totally new setting: Northern Alaska, where another pair of detectives — played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis — will have to solve a mysterious disappearance at a research station. (It’s not the Thing, is it? You always have to be on the lookout for Things at icy, remote research stations.)

    This year of True Detective episodes was written, directed, and showrun by Issa López; additional producers include Jodie Foster and Barry Jenkins. The season’s cast besides Foster and Reis includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, and Anna Lambe.

    Here is the season’s official synopsis:

    When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

    True Detective: Night Country will premiere later this year on the Max streaming service.

    How many prequels can a single television series get? It seems like HBO is determined to find out.

    As part of their enormous announcement of new programming coming to Max (the former HBO Max, which you are no longer allowed to call HBO Max, ever under any circumstances) HBO revealed that they had ordered a second Game of Thrones prequel to compliment the ongoing House of the Dragons. This one has the somewhat unwieldy title A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

    Here is how the new show is described:

    A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

    In other words, this is the long-rumored “Dunk and Egg” prequel series that has previously been mentioned as a potential Game of Thrones continuation on HBO.

    The Dunk and Egg characters come from a trilogy of novellas by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. The first was titled The Hedge Knight (followed by The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight). The later collection that grouped all three novellas into a single volume was titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — hence the slightly confusing title of the new television series. The novellas are set about 100 years before the start of the primary Game of Thrones books.

    HBO also recently announced that House of the Dragon Season 2 is now in production, and is expected to premiere some time in 2024. Other Game of Thrones prequels beyond these two shows are also rumored to be in development at HBO.

    From in-joke on the Disney+ Hawkeye TV show to an actual stage show at Disneyland; Rogers: The Musical is coming to a theme park near you.

    The Broadway-show-within-a-TV-show debuted in Hawkeye, as a stage musical celebrating the life of Steve Rogers that was playing in New York City during the events of Hawkeye. Hawkeye himself, Clint Barton, was none too impressed by the production. But Marvel fans got a kick out of the cheeky humor in the show’s big musical number, “Save the City.” And within a matter of months, the musical will be making its way to Disney’s California Adventure park, where it will be playing five days a week at Hyperion Theater.

    Accoring to a press release, attendees can expect “a talented cast of singers and dancers telling the story of Steve Rogers – Captain America – joined by Peggy Carter, Nick Fury and select members of the Avengers,” along with a musical that “will take the audience on a journey from Steve’s humble beginnings during World War II to becoming Captain America, leading the Avengers and beyond. It’s a classic tale of heroes, time travel, and romance, oh … and Nick Fury sings!” (Samuel L. Jackson must be thrilled about this.)

    ‘Stranger Things’ Animated Series Coming to Netflix

    Stranger Things may end with its upcoming fifth season — at least that’s what we’ve been told by Netflix and the series’ creators — but the world of the show is only going to get bigger in the years ahead. Netflix has previously announced Stranger Things would get a live-action spinoff (its details have yet to be announced), along with a prequel that will take the form of a stage play. Today they revealed another adjacent project: A Stranger Things animated series.

    The details at this point are few and far between, including exactly what characters will be the focus of the show, or whether any of the actors from the live-action Stranger Things will appear on this animated version. We do know that the project is being headed by animator Eric Robles, who previously created Nickelodeon’s Fanboy and Chum Chum.

    The show comes from Leslye Headland, who previously was a creator on Netflix’s Russian Doll. The new show, set during the end of the “High Republic” era when the Jedi were at their most powerful, is billed as a “mystery-thriller” set in “a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers” and follows “a former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.” Headland and the film’s cast were on hand in Star Wars Celebration to give a few glimpses of early footage from the show (which will not be made available online, at least not yet).

    Although not entirely confirmed, the word is that The Acolyte will essentially be about “The Rise of the Sith,” filtered through this mystery story. Which … sounds awesome? The fact that it’s set in a distinct Star Wars time period is great too. You don’t need to watch five shows to get the complete story; it should be relatively self-contained.

    This week’s episode of The Mandalorian “Guns For Hire,” was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. And it serves as a bit of a sequel to the Season 2 episode “The Heiress,” which introduced Bo-Katan to the world of The Mandalorian (and to live-action TV) and also introduced her fellow Mandalorians, Axe Woves and Koska Reeves. It also features the planet Trask, which is mentioned on “Guns For Hire” as well. So guess who directed “The Heiress.” You got it: Bryce Dallas Howard.

    But that’s just one of the many Easter eggs, little details, and Star Wars references you might have missed on The Mandalorian. We’ll also tell you all about the Mon Calamari, the references to Disney World and Epcot in the design of this episode, the reference to guest star Jack Black’s band, Tenacious D, and the teeny tiny homage to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining that you almost definitely did not spot. Check out all the Easter eggs below.

    Another ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Is in Development

    Man, this Game of Thrones … kind of a long game imo.

    Even though the actual Game of Thrones television series ended back in 2019 after eight beloved but sometimes contentious seasons, HBO has no intent to ever wind down the overall Westeros franchise, at least not in the immediate future. They’ve already got one Game of Thrones prequel series on the air, House of the Dragon, with more episodes of that show coming soon. And now there’s word they another prequel series is in development at the channel as well.

    According to Variety, this show would be about “Aegon and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys,” and how they “ used their army and their three dragons to conquer six of the seven kingdoms on Westeros with the exception of Dorne.” This show would be set “approximately 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.” (House of the Dragon takes place about 200 years before Game of Thrones.)

    They also note that the project could actually start life as a feature film that could then continue in an ongoing television series. (They don’t specify whether that film would be intended for HBO and HBO Max or for theaters)

    HBO has pursued a variety of Game of Thrones spinoffs since the show went off the air. Before House of the Dragon made it to series, they produced a pilot starring Naomi Watts that would have been a Thrones prequel set even further back in Westeros history; this show never made it to the air. HBO also has a project in development based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg. About a year ago, there were reports of three more spinoffs that HBO was considering. There are also rumors of a Jon Snow series as well.

    This new prequel is supposedly in its earliest stages of development and does not even have a writer attached to it at this point. The second season premiere date for House of the Dragon has yet to be announced.
