The 2023 Emmys Are Officially Postponed

    [ad_1]

If you were looking forward to catching the Emmys in September, it seems you’re going to have to wait. The delay was expected by many since we’re still in the throes of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. These strikes have an effect on a few different levels when it comes to awards shows. The actors who are taking part in the strike are expressly forbidden from promoting anything. Writers involved in the WGA strike aren’t permitted to do so much as write jokes for the hosts of the event.

With all of these factors coming together, the TV Academy and Fox have decided that there’s really nothing else they can do. Vendors were the first to be notified since there are tons of moving parts. While we see the ceremony itself on TV, it’s a whole extended event. There are producers and event staff who also need ample time to make arrangements.

The TV Academy recently released a statement on the decision to push everything back.

Like the rest of the industry, we hope there will be an equitable and timely resolution for all parties in the current guild negotiations. We continue to monitor the situation closely with our partners at Fox and will advise if and when there is an update available.

This marks the first time since 2001 that the Emmys have had to be postponed. Back in 2001, the Emmys were pushed back once as a result of the 9/11 attacks and then pushed back again. This year, it seems that the plan is to hold the ceremony in January 2024. At least for now.

  • The Worst TV Superhero Costumes of All Time

The Worst TV Superhero Costumes of All Time

    [ad_1]

    Look! Up in the sky!

On second thought, look away. Look away.

Throughout the first century of the television medium, it has proven exceedingly difficult for many shows to accurately and convincingly create superhero costumes. To be fair, that’s been a tough task for a lot of major theatrical movies as well, and those are typically made with budgets many times larger than the ones available for TV shows. If a movie like Green Lantern — which had a reported budget of $200 million — couldn’t get a Green Lantern suit right, what chance does some cheapo TV pilot have?

(Wait, they spent $200 million on Green Lantern? Guys, I could have made you a terrible Green Lantern movie for $20 million! Hell, you could have given me $2 million, pocketed the other $198 million, and we all would have come out ahead.)

READ MORE: Every Marvel TV Series, Ranked From Worst to Best

Anyway, you can’t always say that if a TV show has bad superhero costumes it’s doomed to fail. Sometimes some really enjoyable superhero series have screwed this up — although there are definitely examples where a really hideous costume served as the kind of Black Canary in the coal mine.

So the terrible TV superhero costumes below come from series (and TV movies [and busted pilots]) both good and bad. The suits themselves though? They are all uniformly terrible. (You heard me; uniformly! If we can’t enjoy a good clothing pun in a list of bad superhero TV suits, what are we even doing here?)

And now, let’s get to our picks for the worst TV superhero costumes…

    The Worst TV Superhero Costumes

These costumes from superhero television shows, films, and pilots, were absolutely awful.

    The Worst Superhero Movie Costumes

Superhero movies costumes have gotten incredible sophisticated in recent years. But they weren’t always that way — and even today, there are still some costumes that don’t quite work out.

Other contestants of the house had to help with the task. As the buzzer went on, Elvish, Bebika and Jiya started their task on the good note. However, Abhishek Malhan and Avinash Sachdev’s fight made it horrible. Abhishek and Avinash got into a massive fight as Fukra Insaan blamed the other one for being a biased sanchalan. ‘Grease’ TV Series Gets Home Video Release After Removal From Streaming

    [ad_1]

Despite its recent removal from Paramount+, it seems that fans of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will still have a way to watch the show. Following the merger of Paramount+ and Showtime, a number of programs that hadn’t been performing well with viewers were removed from streaming. Those titles included Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game, and Queen of the Universe. Despite Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies being nominated for two Emmys, the streaming service decided the series was more useful as a tax write-off than as an ongoing piece of available content.

But unlike a lot of the other shows and movies that have been removed from streaming lately, seemingly to vanish forever, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies — a prequel to the beloved musical film of the 1970s starring John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton-John — will at least still be available to fans, with Paramount announcing today that the show will get a digital release this week.

Here is the series’ official synopsis:

GREASE: RISE OF THE PINK LADIES tells the origin story of the infamous 50’s girl gang. It’s 1954, four years before the original Grease, and the moral panic over juvenile delinquency, sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll in Rydell is reaching a fever pitch and the adults are desperate to get control. Enter four outcast teenage girls who band together to become rebels with a cause. Together they’ll shake Rydell out of the silent 50’s and into the new rock n’ roll era.

Luckily, the series will be available on VOD, rather than just disappearing into the ether.

‘The Boys’ Debuts Live-Action Spinoff With First Teaser

    [ad_1]

Gen V is the first live-action spinoff to Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys, the ultra-dark superhero series. (In this context, it calls to mind the ’90s Marvel comic Generation X, about a group of school-aged mutant heroes studying to become the next era of X-Men. Something tells me Gen V will have a bit more graphic violence than that book, though.)

While the series’ main cast includes Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi, The Boys fans can expect appearances from Jessie T. Usher, Claudia Doumit, Colby Minifie, and P.J. Byrne as well. Clancy Brown and Jason Ritter also appear as guest stars.

You can watch the first teaser for Gen V below:

READ MORE: The Worst Superhero Movie Costumes of All Time

Well, it certainly looks like this spinoff maintains the same look and tone as The Boys. Gen V is technically the second spinoff to The Boys, following The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series set within the same fictional universe.

Here is Gen V’s official synopsis:

From the world of The Boys comes Gen V. Young, aspiring heroes have their physical and moral boundaries put to the test while competing for Godolkin University’s highly coveted top ranking. When the university’s dark secrets come to light, the students must come to grips with what type of heroes they are going to become.

Gen V is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 29. Three episodes will go online on that day, with new episodes weekly after that through Friday, November 3.

‘Star Trek’ Is Doing Its First Ever Musical Episode

Space: The final frontier. These are the dances of the Starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: To explore the physical space. To seek out new moves and new syncopations. To boldly sing where no one has sung before.

Sorry, this is probably the only chance to do that. Because, for the very first time, Star Trek is doing a musical episode.

    Wait, this doesn’t count?!?

Okay, that was a movie; this is a TV show. Specifically it is an upcoming episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the very fun current Star Trek series that chronicles the voyages of the Enterprise under the command of Anson Mount’s Captain Pike, the man who led the ship’s crew prior to Captain Kirk. As announced today at San Diego Comic-Con, the upcoming episode “Subspace Rhapsody” sees the crew encounter a strange interstellar phenomenon which inexplicably puts a song into the hearts of Pike, Spock, Chapel, Uhura, and more.

Here’s the trailer for the episodes, which looks like it should be a lot of fun:

Musical episodes of non-musical TV shows have become something of a tradition in television in the last few decades, thanks in large part to the success of the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Once More With Feeling.” In the years since, there have been musical episodes of The FlashFringeCommunityPsych, and even Grey’s Anatomy.

New episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds air on Paramount+. The show is currently in its second season. A third season of the show has already been announced.

Netflix Gained Millions of Subscribers After Password Sharing Ban

    [ad_1]

Despite the extreme unpopularity of Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing, it seems to have worked out, at least in the short-term. Even though the service lost one million subscribers in the second quarter of 2022, Netflix’s subscriber numbers made a comeback. In its most recent quarterly report, Netflix boasts a gain of almost six million subscribers.

Increasing Netflix’s stock price demands a near-constant stream of new subscribers. As the service grows and grows, there are a fewer and fewer ways to do that. Provided they retain almost everyone already using the service, they need to draw new viewers in with “can’t miss” programming. They can also extract new value from people who are already using the service — like by cracking down on people who were sharing their Netflix password and forcing them to pay a smaller monthly fee for additional users.

READ MORE: 10 Flops That Became Big Hits on Netflix

Netflix recently released a letter to investors where they shared the following:

The cancel reaction was low and while we’re still in the early stages of monetization, we’re seeing healthy conversion of borrower households into full paying Netflix memberships as well as the uptake of our extra member feature. We are revenue and paid membership positive vs. prior to the launch of paid sharing across every region in our latest launch … now that we’ve launched paid sharing broadly, we have increased confidence in our financial outlook. We expect revenue growth will accelerate in the second half of 2023 as monetization grows from our most recent paid sharing launch and we expand our initiative across nearly all remaining countries plus the continued steady growth in our ad-supported plan.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is crossing over into another streaming universe.

While the MCU makes its streaming home on Disney+, Marvel is going to put the first three episodes of their current series, Secret Invasion, on the company’s sister streamer, Hulu.

The series, inspired by the Marvel comic of the same name, follows Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury as he uncovers an plot by a militant group of Skrull aliens living in secret on Earth. The series also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

After a slew of Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series in 2020, 2021, and 2022 — all of which aired on Disney+ — Secret Invasion marks just the first MCU show of 2023. Even before the dual writers and actors strikes, Marvel seems to have slowed their TV output considerably, focusing instead on their big budget movies. Future series include IronheartAgatha: Coven of ChaosDaredevil: Born Again, and a second season of the animated What If…?

The Secret Invasion episodes “Resurrection,” “Promises” and “Betrayed” will be available on Hulu starting tomorrow, July 21 and continuing through August 17. The full series will remain available on Disney+. The show’s season finale airs on Wednesday, July 26.

‘Golden Bachelor’ Reveals Star of Senior Dating Series

    [ad_1]

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. But can you teach him to be a romantic reality TV star?

We shall soon find out. Because this fall ABC is unveiling a new twist on their long-running reality dating series The Bachelor: A version of the show starring a senior citizen. They’re calling this spinoff The Golden Bachelor, and they’ve also revealed that the show’s first title star is “retired restaurateur and doting father and grandfather, Gerry [GAIR-ee] Turner.”

ABC’s official site claims Gerry [GAIR-ee] “lives in his dream house on a beautiful lake in Indiana” and is “often busy hosting barbecues, playing pickleball, cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, four-wheeling and spending time with friends and family at restaurants and local haunts.” He was married to his high school sweetheart for 43 years, until she “suddenly fell ill and passed away in 2017.”

Now, he’s headlining The Golden Bachelor, presumably for the “right reasons.” You can watch the first teaser for the show below:

Why Are the Avengers Not in ‘Secret Invasion’?

    [ad_1]

Secret Invasion has revealed a pretty huge detail about the current Marvel Cinematic Universe: The Avengers no longer exist. This is a massive plot point in the overarching narrative of the MCU. Apparently, after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the heroes decided — for reasons that frankly are unclear and don’t really make a ton of sense — to break up their greatest team.

This detail has huge repercussions, not only for Secret Invasion but for the future of Marvel at large. That’s the subject of our latest Secret Invasion video. We try to figure why the Avengers might have called it quits, what the heroes are up to during the events of the show (when, y’know, they could be a big help fighting this massive Skrull invasion), and go through other recent MCU shows and movies and see how the reflect this huge change in the MCU.
