The television world is in mourning as iconic Friends actor Matthew Perry has passed away at the age of 54.
TMZ is reporting that Matthew Perry’s cause of death is due to an apparent drowning. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that Perry was found at a home where first responders rushed over after a call for cardiac arrest. No foul play is suspected, nor were there any drugs found at the scene.
Perry famously played Chandler Bing on Friends, which ran for 234 episodes over 10 seasons. He also appeared in other television hits such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Ally McBeal, Growing Pains, Scrubs, The West Wing, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Growing Pains, and more. The actor also appeared in several comedy movies, such as The Whole Nine Yards, Fools Rush In, and others. He hadn’t acted since 2017, although he recently appeared on the Friends reunion.
Perry has been open about his issues with substance abuse, primarily with painkillers and alcohol, having been in rehab several times. The actor recently put out a book in which he was open about his struggles and delivered behind-the-scenes stories.
ComingSoon sends condolences to Perry’s friends and family during this trying time.
We love heady dramas and foreign films as much as the next cinephile, but sometimes it’s nice to just turn our brains off and consume compellingly dumb trash TV. No disrespect to game shows everywhere, but most (with the exception of something like Jeopardy! or Only Connect) don’t require a lot of brainpower to follow while sitting on our couches with a pint of ice cream late at night, and that’s why we enjoy watching them so much. You don’t have to be a professional to love watching celebrities successfully (or not) becoming ballroom dancers, and you don’t have to have a million tracks on Spotify to appreciate a talented singer.
But greatness can’t exist without its opposite, and through the decades we’ve all been exposed to some pretty terrible game shows—most of which didn’t last longer than a season. For this list, we’ve plumbed the depths of the worst of the worst, the bad, the boring, and the reprehensible, and found ten truly terrible game shows that somehow got approved, filmed, and put on our TVs. From drama-mongering dating shows to competitions judging people only on their physical appearance, these are the worst game shows of all time.
The 10 Worst TV Game Shows of All Time
From boring to overcomplicated to just plain offensive, we’ve plumbed the depths of the last few decades of reality game show television to bring you the worst of the worst.

Few franchises in history can boast the longevity of Doctor Who. The series survives in part on the basis of a clever premise that allows endless new variations on the concept of an alien time traveler: Every so often the Doctor “regenerates” into a totally new form (and a totally new actor) enable the character’s adventures to theoretically continue indefinitely.
For the character’s 60th anniversary, the show has hit upon a clever way to honor that unique history. The latest Fourteenth version of the Doctor is played by David Tennant — who also played the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010, who remains one of fans’ favorite incarnations of the character. Tennant’s new Doctor will star in a trio of specials marking the character’s anniversary — all of which will stream here in America on Disney+. You can watch the trailer for the shows below:
The three specials, titled “The Star Beast” (Nov. 25), “Wild Blue Yonder” (Dec. 2) and “The Giggle” (Dec. 9) will reunite the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Temple-Noble (Catherine Tate) as they come face-to-face with their most terrifying villain yet: the Toymaker (played by Neil Patrick Harris in his “Doctor Who” debut). Doctor Who is the longest running action-adventure television series in the world spanning 60 years and winning over 100 awards. This quintessentially British show has a huge global following, with 9.6m fans across social platforms/channels and 100m video views on YouTube in the last year alone.
The Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials premiere on Disney+ starting on November 25. The next season of the show, with Ncuti Gatwa replacing Tennant as the Fifteenth Doctor, will stream on Disney+ next year.

Though Ankita tried to sort things out with her but instead Mannara called her cunning. While the wait for the final season of Stranger Thingsdrags on — and it is still quite a ways off thanks in part to the long writers’ strike and the ongoing actors’ strike — there is at least this to look forward to: The first Stranger Things stage play, which is set in the official continuity of the series as a prequel that will reveal the previously unknown backstory that illuminates most of what has transpired on the hit Netflix series so far.
Dubbed Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the show will debut next month in London. One would assume it will transfer to America and Broadway at some point if it’s successful. And one also assumes this show will be quite successful. (Is Stranger Things as popular in the U.K. as it is in the U.S.? I guess we’re about to find out.)
With the show less than a month away from its first public performance, its official Instagram account posted some behind the scenes photos of the cast rehearsing the material. You can see all the new images below:
Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach. Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.
The First Shadow has also announced they will be offering 11 pairs of lottery tickets to performances. These “Shadow Seats” will be available on the TodayTix app.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow has its first performance at the West End’s Phoenix Theatre on November 17.
Actors Who Quit Movies During Production
These actors were all set to play key roles in famous movies — until they dropped out at the last minute. (Or, in some cases, after the last minute.)
Here’s what you have to look forward to on Max in November: New seasons of Julia and Rap Sh!t, plus the debut of Chuck Lorre’s new series Bookie, starring Sebastian Maniscalco, about an L.A. bookie “as the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatens to upend his business for good.”
Other than that, there are some library titles (the showbiz drama The Bad and the Beautiful is a must-watch if you’ve never seen it) and a ton of holiday-themed reality and cooking shows. Like, so many. Christmas is coming slightly early if you are into that sort of thing. (Not that early; it’s already November.)

Today is apparently “Fallout Day” which doesn’t make any sense because today is also apparently National Talk Show Host Day. How can one date on the calendar have two totally different phony holidays attached to it? It does not compute.
Regardless, one nice part about this B.S. holiday is that Fallout fans now know precisely when the long-awaited TV series based on the video games is going to debut on streaming on Amazon’sPrime Video. The news was revealed on a post from the official Fallout X account.
In a press release, Amazon revealed that the TV show is “set in the future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and world of Fallout, the series is an original story based on Fallout that will be part of the canon of the games.” Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of HBO’s Westworld, are executive producers on the Fallout series. The series cast includes Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, and Michael Emerson. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner serve as Fallout’s showrunners.
Although the show has been long in coming, Prime Video has not released much in the way of footage from the show yet. This image is basically all we’ve got to go on so far, plus this new teaser.
At the time the Fallout television series was first announced back in 2020, Joy and Nolan had this to say about the project:
Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.
Fallout will premiere on Prime Video on Friday April 12, 2024.

Before the era of streaming services, TGIF and Must-See TV reigned supreme. In the 1990s, networks like ABC and NBC stocked up on comedies and realistic dramas, while relative newcomer Fox had its own arsenal of groundbreaking shows. Even cable networks like HBO and Cartoon Network started upping the ante with quality programming, marking a turning point in television history. Viewers had more options than ever to get their entertainment fix.
Stacker compiled data on all 1990s TV shows in English with over 7,500 votes on the Internet Movie Database and ranked the top 100 according to IMDb user score (as of February 2023), with ties broken by votes.
Do you remember the cop show that introduced (partial) nudity and crude language to primetime TV? Or the Nickelodeon show that launched the career of a future cast member of Saturday Night Live? How about the NBC crime drama that has had more spinoffs than there are presidents on Mount Rushmore? We include those shows and more, plus transcendent British comedies, genre-bending cartoons, and the sketch show that birthed the careers of many of the top comedians of the ’90s.
It is a testament to the power of ’90s TV that many of the shows on the list, while still holding up on their own, are being rebooted for newer generations. Each slide includes a hodgepodge of information like notable cast and crew, accolades won, the show’s legacy, and other interesting tidbits.

Black Mirror — which initially premiered on Channel 4 in 2011 — has provided audiences with a variety of bleak, ironic stories. But since the show moved to Netflix back in 2014, some fans claim the show “lost its edge,” with some episodes suddenly becoming all “sunny and happy.” Responding to criticisms, series creator Charlie Brooker revealed he just didn’t want to “keep doing bleak-a-thons.”
During his keynote session at the International Convention Centre SXSW (via The Guardian), Brooker debunked the idea that Netflix caused the show to lose its so-called “edge.” Instead, the series creator admitted that he “wanted to mix it up a bit” for international audiences.
“One of the criticisms we sometimes get is, ‘I prefer the show when it was British and everyone in it was miserable and everything smelled a little bit of shit and all the stories were horrible. And then it’s gone to Netflix and suddenly everything’s sunny and happy and everyone has wonderful teeth, and it’s full of Hollywood stars and it’s lost that edge,” said Brooker.
According to Brooker, the happiest episode in Black Mirror was San Junipero, and he claimed that Netflix had nothing to do with it. “I just did that off my own back.”
“I was aware we’re going on a global platform now, so we’ve got to make these stories a bit more international. And I wanted to mix it up a bit, as in not just keep doing bleak-a-thons.”
The release of Season 6, however, seemingly proved the point that Black Mirror has somehow lost some of the elements that viewers have grown to love over the past years. But for Brooker, the Loch Henry episode was “f-cking nasty — nasty as anything [they’ve] ever done.”
Black Mirror’s Move to Netflix Was Not as Bad as Some Fans Claim
The first episode of Black Mirror, titled The National Anthem, paved the way for more tragic tales, including The Entire History of You, Be Right Back, and White Bear. But the move to Netflix was not bad at all, with Nosedive, Shut Up and Dance, USS Callister, Crocodile, and Black Museum being some of the best episodes the show has ever released.
By all means, San Junipero — despite having a more upbeat energy, complete with neon and retro aesthetics — still had the Black Mirror flare in it.
All seasons of Black Mirror are available to stream on Netflix.
Episode 3 of LokiSeason 2 might be the most important episode yet — and perhaps the most important episode of anyMarvel show in the Multiverse Saga so far. It even gives us what seems to be the actual origin of Kang the Conqueror, and it sets up one thing — the TVA handbook — as perhaps the key MacGuffin of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as it stands right now.
In our latest Loki video we break down this all-important episode, explain why it’s so crucial, and also show you all of the Easter eggs, little details, and Marvel references you might have missed in Episode 3 of Loki Season 2. We’ll explain why we think this whole season is an ouroboros, which also happens to be the name of Ke Huy Quan’s character on this season. Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie, Ranked From Worst to Best
It started with Iron Man and it’s continued and expanded ever since. It’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 31 movies and counting. But what’s the best and the worst? We ranked them all.
Television networks and streaming services are always scouring foreign production companies’ big hits and attempting to scoop up the rights and make their own version. Sometimes they end up with hits, like The Office, one of the most popular American shows of all time which was itself based on a British series that was equally popular (but not as long-running) in its home country. Reality competition shows like Dancing with the Stars and American Ninja Warrior (imports from the U.K. and Japan, respectively) are as inescapable as dramas like Homeland (based on Israeli series Prisoners of War) and Survivor (based on Swedish show Expedition Robinson).
But, sometimes—statistically, most of the time—foreign hits just don’t translate to American successes. Maybe the humor just doesn’t work, or the content isn’t something Americans are interested in, or a competition or sport that’s popular in another country just doesn’t break big over here. Whatever the reason, the history of TV is full of flop adaptations, as well as one or two just as awful successes, that remind us to think twice whenever we get the notion that what’s popular over there could take off over here. Some of these might be surprising—Did you know The Slap was originally an Australian show??—while others, like Coupling or The Inbetweeners, you may shudder to remember. We apologize in advance to any fans of The Good Doctor.
The 10 Worst American Remakes of Foreign TV Shows
They may have been hits overseas, but the Americanized versions just didn’t translate.
For the first time since 2015, new episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force are about to debut on Adult Swim. This 12th season of the show also features original stars Carey Means, Dana Snyder (“Squidbillies”) and series co-creator Dave Willis as, of course, Meatwad. The new season consists of five new episodes.
Originally launched in very late 2000, the series became one of the early stapes of the Adult Swim programming lineup — and its anarchic and surreal humor helped to define the channel’s identity. Over 130 episodes have been produced to date, along with two anarchic movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters in 2007, and Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm, which premiered last fall on home video — and clearly did well enough that Adult Swim thought it was time to bring the show back in full force. (The series’ original run on the channel concluded in August of 2015.)
“AquaTeen Hunger Force” is back to make television watchable again, and to fill your empty, content-starved lives with a magical season 12! Don’t call it a comeback! Even though by all accounts it seems to be just that. It’s a micro-itty-bitty-mini season, five brand new episodes of attention-whittling stupidity – but don’t worry, the laugh-per-episode density is far higher than anything else you willingly agree to place before your swollen, encrusted eyes. The new season picks up where we left off in 2015, as Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad have returned to solve all of life’s modern issues, and Carl returns because he can’t sell his crappy house because he lives next door to food. Look for your favorite trio of “detectives” to go head-to-head with A.I. appliances, join an apocalyptic fitness cult, and search for friendship through ancient Egyptian pyramid schemes. In the end, all problems shall be solved, and all brains shall be melted. Did Adult Swim mess with a winning formula? You better believe it! Master Shake now has two all-new facial expressions…“Bemused” and “Lips Pursed in Thought”! And Shake can close his hands now, as if to hold things! Also, Frylock is sixty stories high and Meatwad bounces to get around. Tune in to see if we’re telling the truth!
The new episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force debut on Adult Swim on Sunday, November 26 at 11:30PM ET. The episodes will also be available on Max the day after their premiere on cable.
The Weirdest Animated Movies Of All Time
These trippy and strange cartoons are decidedly not for kids.
Netflix stock is up today after the company reported it had added 9 million new subscribers. But apparently it’s not up enough — as the company also announced today that it was immediately adjusting (i.e. raising) their prices on several of their plans.
While we mostly paused price increases as we rolled ou tpaid sharing, our overall approach remains the same—a range of prices and plans to meet a wide range of needs, and as wedeliver more value to our members, we occasionally ask them to pay a bit more. Starting today, we’re adjusting prices in the US, UK and France.
So here’s how the new prices shake out: Netflix’s plans with ads and its “Standard” plan will remain the same — $6.99 and $15.49, respectively. If you subscribe to the Basic or Premium plans, those prices are going up, to $11.99 and $22.99 a month, respectively. (The Standard plan is 1080p video quality, ad-free viewing on assorted devices, and two devices that can download content at any time; Premium subscribers get 4K streaming, better audio, and downloads on six devices.) That means if you’re a Premium Netflix subscriber, you’re now going to pay $275 a year just to watch The Great British Baking Show. (And by you, I mean me.)
Netflix has been raising prices pretty regularly of late. In late 2021, that Premium membership plan cost just $17.99 a month. (It then jumped to $19.99 before it jumped to its latest price.) That means in the span of about two years, that plan alone has increased in price by around 27 percent. That’s … not nothing! And Netflix is one of many streaming services that has raised its prices lately; Disney raised the prices of Disney+ and Hulu earlier this month. If only someone would invent some sort of bundle of various channels, perhaps sent via a cable, that could be then purchased for one low price each month… wouldn’t that be nice?
The Worst Netflix Blockbusters
On many occasions, Netflix has tried to make their own big-budget movies in an attempt to compete with theatrical tentpoles. The ten movies below were … not their strongest efforts.
Rick Riordan “wrote off Hollywood” after being left frustrated by the Percy Jackson films.
The 59-year-old author has never watched either of the movie adaptations of his work – Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters – and refused to consider other takes on the books as the flicks had deviated from the source material so much.
In an interview with Variety, Rick said: “After the movie experience, I basically wrote off Hollywood for a long, long time. I really didn’t want to have anything to do with the film industry.”
“There were many years of me saying, ‘I don’t want to engage. I don’t want to think about other adaptations. I’m done.’”
Percy Jackson is now returning to the screen in a Disney+ TV series that will premiere in December and Rick ultimately relented on his anti-adaptation stance.
He explained: “But when it started to become clear that something was going to happen with me or without me, I had a long talk with Becky, my wife. We said, ‘Well, if something’s going to happen, it’s probably best to give it one more shot.’”
The new TV series features Walker Scobell as the titular young demigod alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri and Rick is convinced that the small screen is a better fit for Percy Jackson.
The writer said: “My feeling was always that television was the better format for Percy, because it allows us a larger canvas to tell more of the story.”
“And to be more faithful to the source material, which is what the fans of the books really would love to see.”
Rick felt that one of the “fundamental mistakes” made in the movies was to age up the main characters but he couldn’t be more pleased with the trio that will lead the TV show.
He said: “Having been through the production process, I totally get why they did that. It’s much easier to work with older actors.”
Rick added of the new cast members: “They’re perfect, and they’ve only become more perfect.”
The 13 Best TV Shows With Huge Casts
Sometimes all you need to make a great TV show is an enormous number of actors.
Baz Luhrmann’sAustralia debuted in 2008 with an incredible cast, headlined by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, an epic story, and a subject close to Luhrmann’s heart. But the film didn’t quite connect with audiences in the ways that Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! seemed to, and it only got so-so reviews and grossed a little over $200 million against a massive $130 million budget.
But now, 15 years later, Luhrmann is getting an unusual chance to retell his story, as Luhrmann has recut the movie Australia into a TV miniseries, which is now called Faraway Downs. This longer version, featuring material that wasn’t in the original film will premiere later this fall on Hulu.
Here is the trailer for the series, which certainly looks like Australia (as it should)…
In a new interview, Luhrmann said he had the idea to recut Australia during the pandemic. “I got the idea … and realized I’ve shot enough to do it as episodic storytelling through a revisiting of the piece, not necessarily as a better film than Australia, but a different variation on the themes.”
Although it’s certainly not typical, Luhrmann isn’t the first director to recut his film as a TV series. A few years ago, Quentin Tarantino released his feature The Hateful Eight on Netflix as a four-part miniseries. The experience may not have improved on the original film, but it was certainly an interesting experiment.
Here is Faraway Downs’ official synopsis:
The story centers on an English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) who travels halfway across the world to confront her wayward husband and sell an unusual asset: a million-acre cattle ranch in the Australian Outback called ‘Faraway Downs’. Following the death of her husband, a ruthless Australian cattle baron, King Carney (Bryan Brown), plots to take her land and she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) to protect her ranch. The sweeping adventure romance is explored through the eyes of young Nullah (Brandon Walters), a bi-racial Indigenous Australian child caught up in the government’s draconian racial policy now referred to as the “Stolen Generations.” Together the trio experiences four life-altering years, a love affair between Lady Ashley and the Drover, and the unavoidable impact of World War II on Northern Australia.
Faraway Downs will premiere on Hulu on November 26.
The Worst Movies Based On Good TV Shows
Sometimes horrible movies happen to bad television series. Here are the worst offenders.
