How ‘Ahoksa’ Sets Up Rey’s New ‘Star Wars’ Movie

    [ad_1]

Obviously the Star Wars: Ahsoka TV series set up the crossover film that is currently in development from Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni that will supposedly unite the heroes of all the Star Wars Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. But the Ahsoka show actually introduced a ton of new concepts to the Star Wars canon, some of them inspired by old Star Wars novels and comics. And some of the concepts are directly connected to another upcoming Star Wars movie: The Rey Skywalker film that will star Daisy Ridley in the role she played in the recent sequel trilogy.

In our latest video, we’ll explore how Ahsoka sets up Rey’s new movie through its use of old Star Wars concepts from Heir to the Empire and New Jedi Order. We’ll also give you some theories on what they Rey movie will actually be about, and why it’s so connected to Ahsoka even though that film and this show are set decades apart. • Alien FX Series Cast: Timothy Olyphant Joins Noah Hawley Series

Alien FX Series Cast: Timothy Olyphant Joins Noah Hawley Series

    [ad_1]

Acclaimed actor Timothy Olyphant was revealed to have joined the cast of Noah Hawley‘s upcoming Alien series.

Deadline reported that the Deadwood lead will be starring opposite Sydney Chandler in the forthcoming show. No official details involving his character have been made known, but the outlet’s sources suggest that he is playing a synth named Kirsh who serves as a mentor to Wendy — Chandler’s meta-human character. This isn’t Olyphant’s first time working with FX, as the actor previously played a recurring character in Fargo Season 4.

The FX Alien series will be the first-ever Alien story set on Earth. According to Hawley, the series will explore the more grounded aspects of the franchise. The director also touched on the inclusion of Weyland-Yutani — the massive corporation that’s found in nearly every Alien property — and how he plans to deliver a series that both captures the horror-action aspect of the Alien franchise and explores other themes established in the world.

Who is writing the Alien FX series?

The untitled Alien series is written and directed by Hawley and stars Alex Lawther, Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) as Dame Silvia, and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Slightly. Further details about its plot are still being kept under wraps, but it was reportedly developed as a prequel story set before the Sigourney Weaver-led movies.

The project is executive produced by Hawley, Ridley Scott, and Dana Gonzales, with Chris Lowenstein production. In addition to the upcoming FX series, 20th Century Studios is also set to release a brand new installment to the Alien film franchise titled Alien: Romulus, which hails from director Fede Álvarez.

    25 Classic Thanksgiving TV Episodes

    [ad_1]

Ah, Thanksgiving. The annual holiday when families pause and take a moment to appreciate everything they have – before stuffing their faces full of food.

But turkey and carbs aren’t the only things people binge during this annual holiday. Many households will gather around the TV to indulge in some festive holiday programming, too.

While most minds conjure up thoughts of NFL games or the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade when they think about turkey day television, many classic sitcoms and dramas have used the holiday as a means to air special episodes.

READ MORE: How Paul Simon Ended Up Wearing a Turkey Suit on ‘SNL’

Arguably the most memorable serving of Thanksgiving TV came from WKRP in Cincinnati in 1978. Then in its first season, the series struck comedy gold with its plot centered on a radio promotion gone horribly wrong.

Likewise, the classic sitcom Cheers counts a Thanksgiving episode among its most memorable, as the gang of bar friends assembled at Carla’s house for a nontraditional Thanksgiving dinner. The episode’s food fight became a famous TV moment, though it also spawned boycotts among some viewers.

Many classic Thanksgiving episodes came from places you’d expect, like heartwarming turns from The Wonder Years and The Brady Bunch. Others have seemingly come out of nowhere: Did anyone really expect a Thanksgiving episode from The A-Team?

Of course, classic Thanksgiving television has not been limited to live-action shows. Both The Simpsons and South Park have delivered memorable holiday episodes, with the latter unforgettably introducing the world to a special turkey by the name of Gobbles.

‘Cape Fear’ TV Series Coming From Scorsese and Spielberg

    [ad_1]

Cape Fear has a long history. It’s not just the Martin Scorsese movie we all know. It’s come in many forms, the newest of which will be a TV series. It started as a novel, called The Executioners. It was made into a film for the first time in 1962, and once again in 1991, directed by Scorsese. It was parodied in The Simpsons a couple years after that in 1993, giving rise to one of the show’s most memorable memes in the form of Sideshow Bob stepping on an endless supply of rakes.

The 1991 remake of the film tells the basic story that develops in both the book and the older version, with a few changes. The story follows a lawyer who helped in the conviction of an extremely violent and single-minded criminal. Despite representing the criminal, Max Cady, the attorney didn’t do things by the book, knowing that he couldn’t let Cady out on the streets.

After being sent to prison for 14 years, Cady learns the law so he can get back at the man who put him there, Sam Bowden. Cady is released and begins terrorizing Bowden’s family. as revenge for the conviction he received. In the Scorsese film, Cady was played by Robert De Niro, while Nick Nolte played the attorney.

The movie’s backstory is just as interesting as the plot. Initially, Scorsese was working on Schindler’s List, while Steven Spielberg was working on Cape Fear. Spielberg left the director’s chair, deciding the film was too violent for him. So, they switched projects. Given the way both of the movies turned out, it may have been for the better.

Now both Scorsese and Spielberg are backing the new Cape Fear TV series, with Nick Antosca functioning as the showrunner. Deadline says the show will be an “unconventional take” on the concept, making it a “a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is coming for a pair of married attorneys when an infamous killer from their past gets released after years in prison.”

‘Ahsoka’s Dave Filoni Is Now Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer

    [ad_1]

For years, writer/producer/director Dave Filoni has taken an increasingly central role in the creation of the Star Wars universe. And now he has a job title to match.

A new profile of Filoni in Vanity Fair reveals he has been promoted to the “chief creative officer of Lucasfilm.” In this position he says he will more directly with company president Kathleen Kennedy, as well as the company’s head of development. His job: “To originate and shepherd the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies.”

“In the past,” he explained, “in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways … when we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”

Filoni worked his way up in animation for television, and then served as the director of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated feature and was heavily involved in the spinoff Clone Wars animated series. Later, he served as an executive producer on Star Wars Rebels and created the Star Wars Resistance television series.

While he has continued to over see Lucasfilm’s animated series, he has also begun working  in live-action since Star Wars became a centerpiece of the Disney+ streaming service. He is a director, writer, and producer on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and he also created the recent Star Wars: Ahsoka series. Filoni is also in line to direct a movie that will combine the storylines from all of these TV shows into a single feature. ‘The Crown’ Rules Over Netflix TV Top 10; ‘The Killer’ Takes No. 1 For Film

    [ad_1]

Audiences were eagerly awaiting the final season of The Crown.

Part 1 of Season 6 debuted on November 16, quickly racking up 11.1M views in its first few days on Netflix. That was enough to boost it to No. 1 on the English-language TV charts for the week of November 13 to 19. According to Netflix, the new episodes were No. 1 in 44 countries and among the Top 10 in 85.

The final episodes are set to debut on December 14, meaning that The Crown is likely to appear in the Top 10 through the end of the year.

In second place last week was Matt Rife’s new stand-up special, Natural Selection. The special managed 7.4M views in its debut week. That was followed by All The Light We Cannot See, which was down from first place the week prior, with an additional 5.7M views. Netflix says the World War II limited series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries.

The TV list was rounded out with some unscripted content, including Escaping Twin Flames and Season 7 of Selling Sunset.

  • Rick and Michonne Return in First Teaser for ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff

Rick and Michonne Return in First Teaser for ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff

    [ad_1]

Although The Walking Dead is technically over, the Walking Dead universe is somehow more busy than ever. (There may be a metaphor about zombies in here somewhere, I’m not sure.) There’s no less than three different spinoff shows on or coming to AMC, including The Walking Dead: Dead City, featuring Maggie and Negan, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon featuring, um, Daryl Dixon, and now The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which might be the most anticipated of the bunch.

That’s because it will feature the long-awaited returns of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, who left The Walking Dead during its ninth season, and Danai Gurira’s Michonne, who followed suit in the tenth season. Rather than kill Rick off when Lincoln decided to leave The Walking Dead, his character was wounded and taken by the CRM. Most of the characters believed he had died, but the audience (and Michonne) knew better.

When Gurira left in Season 10, her character went on a quest to find Rick — and now we‘ll finally get the followup to both those cliffhangers on this new show, which was created by Scott M. Gimple and Danai Gurira. Watch the first teaser below:

READ MORE: 10 TV Spinoffs Better Than the Shows They Were Based On

Here is the series’ official synopsis:

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead … And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

In other words, it turns out the real walking dead … was love. Or maybe it was the friends we made along the way? I’m not sure. We’ll have to tune in to find out when The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is scheduled to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on February 25, 2024.

Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, Hawley confirmed that they’re currently planning to resume the Alien series production in Thailand around January or February of 2024.

“We’re getting back into production as quickly as possible,” Hawley said. “We’re shooting in Bangkok, a half a world away; shooting again in the New Year.”

In addition, the Fargo creator revealed that he was able to start editing some of the footage they got before production was halted. “I got some footage. Some of the first hour was shot before we had to shutdown. It’s stuff to play with and edit.”

Who’s involved in FX’s Alien series?

The untitled Alien series is written and directed by Hawley and stars Alex Lawther, Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) as Dame Silvia, and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Slightly. Further details about its plot are still being kept under wraps, but it was reportedly developed as a prequel story set before the Sigourney Weaver-led movies.

It will be the first-ever Alien story set on Earth.

  • Terrorbytes Documentary Series Charts the History of Horror Games

Terrorbytes Documentary Series Charts the History of Horror Games

    [ad_1]

The creators of the extensive horror movie documentary movies In Search of Darkness are turning their bloodshot eyes toward horror video games for In Search of Darkness Presents: Terrorbytes; a five-part documentary series on the history of horror gaming.

    Horror Gaming History Uncovered

Horror has grown into one of the most popular genres of video games over the past few decades, from the survival horror of Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil to more commercial horror-flavored fare like CoD Zombies, and importantly the surge in indie horror games that have led the way for the industry over the last 10-15 years.

The documentary series promises to go in deep on a wide variety of horror game history stories, and include insight from those in the know behind the games and those who live for them (I’ll assume they’ve not got around to asking for me yet as they’re very busy).

CreatorVC, the makers of the documentary, are asking for fan feedback on the website, and detailing exactly what its plans are with the series.

The official synopsis is as follows.

”In Search of Darkness Presents: Terrorbytes – The Evolution of Video Game Horror is a deep dive, retrospective documentary series covering the rich history, evolution and emotional core of the horror gaming landscape. Through separate episodes that each put a specific horror gaming topic under the microscope, viewers will be taken on a journey from video game horror’s humble beginnings to its explosion of popularity today — exploring throughout the series such thematic ideas as why we love scary games, how the design sensibilities of horror gaming break away from and upend traditional video game power fantasies, how horror games both draw from and inspire other mediums, and more.

From the formative ideas of 3D Monster Maze (1981) and Haunted House (1982), to the smash hits of Resident Evil (1996) and Silent Hill (1999), to the now thriving indie scene and the off-the-beaten-path obscurities, no stone will be left unturned in chronicling, analyzing and understanding the vivid and varied world of horror gaming.

With a huge scope displaying over 50 years of horror gaming history, Terrorbytes will discuss the psychology, themes, narratives, mechanics, visuals and development of these games with some of the most prominent figures involved in their creation as well as accomplished writers, academics, and horror talent.”

The episode titles and details are as follows

    Enter the Survival Horror

An examination of horror gaming’s most famous sub-genre. Survival Horror birthed classics such as Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, and Dead Space. A solid place to start a series on horror gaming, that’s for sure.

    Lethal Licences

A look at the use of licenses in horror games. As far back as the ’80s, horror movies were made into video games, and that’s not really stopped. These days, more horror movies and their characters appear in games than ever before, with the likes of Dead by Daylight collecting them in a single place and studios like Gun Media giving loving care to the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in game form.

    Full Motion Frights

FMV horror is a curious thing. It was certainly unique back in the ’90s, but it had a poor hit rate. A resurgence in the format has given this strange sub-genre new life.

    The Indie Revolution

Indie horror is the lifeblood of the horror gaming scene. It blew up with the emergence of YouTube Let’s Plays, and has taken horror to new heights with games such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, FAITH, Murder House, and Five Nights at Freddy’s paving the way over the years.

    Cursed and Controversial

Documents the history of horror gaming’s most cursed and controversial moments, including Rockstar’s Manhunt, and Capcom’s Rule of Rose.

The Last of Us Season 2 Sets Early 2024 Production Start Date

    [ad_1]

According to the Film & Television Industry Alliance, production on HBO‘s highly-anticipated The Last of Us Season 2 has been scheduled to begin on January 7, 2024. The listing also states that the horror drama’s filming location will take place in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Season 2 was originally slated for a late 2023 filming start.

What is The Last of Us about?

“The live-action series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed,” reads the synopsis. “Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-pandemic America.”

The Last of Us currently stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Season 2 is expected to be based on Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game sequel The Last of Us Part II, which will feature a significant time jump introducing a now grown-up Ellie. Due to the 118-day-long actors’ strike, new casting announcements for Season 2 have not yet been made.

The series is executive produced and co-written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and original game writer Neil Druckmann, who is also serving as one of the directors. It is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions. Executive producers are Carolyn Strauss, Naughty Dog President Evan Wells, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.

Season 1 is now available for streaming on Max.
