A Disney on Ice performer fell from a lift and remains in critical condition.

On Saturday (Feb. 10), the traveling show was at Target Center in Minneapolis. During the morning show about 40 minutes into the first half of the show, the figure skater portraying Belle from Beauty and the Beast, was taking part in pair skating alongside a male skater who was portraying The Beast/Prince. During a lift, she somehow fell to the ice, though it is unclear what exactly happened to cause her to fall.

In videos posted to social media, the Belle skater was seen seizing while the Beast/Prince skater was looking on. Three workers dressed in black were surrounding her off the ice while one used a walkie talkie, presumably to get help. The music and other skaters were still performing until moments after she began seizing in which the music stopped. The other skaters then cleared the ice.

According to eyewitnesses, within 20-30 seconds of the fall, the arena made an announcement saying that the show would be paused and proceeded to turn off direct spotlights, seemingly for privacy. The medical crew on site were able to transfer her off of the ice and put up a tent in the section where the ice met the floor. Later on, the show did continue on to its completion.

The skater was later taken to the local hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center. As of Sunday, reports from the medical center stated that she was still in “stable but critical condition.”

“Disney On Ice appreciates the well wishes from our fans as our team member recovers,” Feld Entertainment, the company that owns the traveling show, said in a statement. The remaining shows in Minneapolis will continue as scheduled through Feb. 11.

One of the mainstay characters in the early seasons of The Mandalorian was Cara Dune, a former Rebel turned mercenary whose path crosses repeatedly with the title character. Dune was played by Gina Carano, who Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau supposedly had in mind when he first envisioned the character.

Cara Dune was in seven episodes of The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2. There were also rumors that she would star in a Mandalorian spinoff show that Lucasfilm announced but never made, titled Rangers of the New Republic. But then after Season 2 Carano began drawing an enormous amount of attention and controversy due to posts she made on her Twitter account. (Among the subjects she tweeted about, Carano made a post comparing the treatment of Republicans in America to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany, and one claiming that Jeffrey Epstein was murdered.)

Eventually, the noise around Carano’s statements grew so large that Lucasfilm released a statement that read “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

At the start of Mandalorian Season 3, Cara Dune was written out of the show. Carano hasn’t been seen in the Star Wars universe since. Now she has decided to take her removal from the show to court, and has filed suit against Disney for wrongful termination and discrimination.

In her suit, according to The Hollywood Reporter, she “seeks a court order that would force Lucasfilm to recast her” along with at least $75,000 and punitive damages.

Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter) is funding Carano’s suit; in a statement, the company said “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination.”

In a statement of her own, Carano claimed “some of us have been unjustly singled out, harassed, persecuted and had our livelihoods stripped away because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions, and refused to go along with the mob.”

Carano first gained fame as a mixed martial artist, before shifting into a career making action movies. Her big break in Hollywood came in 2011, when Steven Soderbergh cast her in the lead of his spy thriller Haywire.

If you’re a Disney+ subscriber, you likely received an email today alerting you to the fact that the service was updating its “Subscriber Agreement.” The new rules took effect on January 25 for first-time users, while they go into effect on March 14 for existing subscribers.

The email notes several changes to the company’s policies.. Among the changes highlighted in the email: “We’re adding limitations on sharing your account outside of your household, and explaining how we may assess your compliance with these limitations.”

When you look at the new subscriber agreement, you can read this policy spelled out in clear detail. According to the section on “Account Sharing,” the agreement explicitly states that you “may not share your subscription outside your household” — with a household defined as “the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”

If you do violate the agreement the Subscriber Agreement document further states Disney “may limit or terminate access to the Service.”

The previous version of the Disney+ Subscriber Agreement (which you can read here) never even uses the word “household,” much less defines it as it pertains to giving someone outside your home your Disney+ password. It does note that as a Disney+ subscriber you agree not to “share your login credentials with third parties.”

Do I think Disney+ is going to start running around canceling people’s subscriptions if they share passwords with a girlfriend or a child or a neighbor who walks their dog sometimes? No. But the language in the Subscriber Agreement says they are well within their rights to do so if they want to.

It also indicates the company is serious about their promise from last summer to crack down on password sharing. At that time, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company was “[considering] the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family” and that they would “roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.” Iger also asserted his belief that if they worked to “eliminate [password sharing] it will convert to growth in subs.”

Disney is not alone in wanting to cut down on password sharing between households. Netflix began cracking down on the practice last year, and even began offering subscribers the opportunity to add others to their account at a slightly discounted rate or $8 a month. So far, Disney has not announced their own version of such a plan, if they intend to implement one.

After an initial season that made it one of the biggest international hits in the history of television, Squid Game is back in 2024 with a new season. Netflix confirmed today the new episodes of the show would premiere on the streaming service later this year — although they did not offer an exact release date yet.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk returned to write and direct this second season of the series, which became Netflix’s most-watched show in history. (It was watched by more than 142 million Netflix homes in its first month on the service; collectively 1.65 billion hours of the show were watched.) The first season followed an underground game played by 456 players, all competing for a massive cash prize. One winner got the money; the losers die.

It remains to be seen whether the second season repeats the premise in some way, or if it explores new stories and themes. All Netflix had to say about the actual plot of Season 2:

Gi-hun abandons his US plans after a mysterious call and embarks on a chase with a motive. The new season will also welcome other beloved characters back like Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Adding to the intrigue, a new character played by Park Gyu-young makes her debut, sparking curiosity about the new character.

Squid Game Season 2 premieres later in 2024 on Netflix.

During a mini Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion on Shannen Doherty’s Let’s Be Clear podcast, she and Jason Priestley admitted that their characters had some… odd sibling chemistry.

The two actors played twin siblings Brenda and Brandon Walsh on the hit ’90s teen drama.

“Brenda and Brandon were always so interesting because we had an interesting relationship. There was this sexual undertone of Brenda and Brandon that to this day is hysterical,” Doherty explained.

Doherty also recalled how during a convention, a fan asked her to sign a photo of the pair.

“I was like, ‘This is inappropriate for brother and sister,’” she said of the photo she signed.

The stars also discussed a 1992 Rolling Stone cover photo shoot they did.

“I’m like, straddling you. So bizarre. There were a lot of bizarre things that happened with us,” Doherty laughed.

“It’s pretty funny,” Priestley agreed.

According to Us Weekly, Doherty previously addressed the strange photo shoot during 90s Con in September 2023.

“He’s, like, behind me, and we’re all, like, sexy, and I’m like, ‘Oh, no, this is wrong. This is crazy.’ But we were always sort of an inappropriate brother and sister … so it was fantastic,” she said.

The duo’s chemistry sparked off-screen dating rumors during their time on the show, but Priestley denied them during a 1993 Howard Stern interview, per New York Post.

The actor also vaguely discussed the rumors in his 2015 self-titled memoir, writing, “Various combinations of people slept with each other over the years. Nobody ever got attached. We never let it get in the way of what we were doing. I will let you know that nobody ever got — work always superseded everything.”

Priestley starred on 90210 for all of its 10 seasons, while Doherty left after Season 4. On her podcast she explained that her personal life behind the scenes impacted her work, leading to her eventual firing from the show.

Saturday Night Live has turned plenty of sketches into feature films — Wayne’s World, MacGruber, Coneheads, and unfortunately A Night at the Roxburry to name just a few— but the show itself has never been the subject of a fiction film before.

At least, not until Jason Reitman’s SNL 1975. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Juno director’s next project is reportedly about “about the debut night in October 1975 of the NBC sketch show that is currently airing its 49th season.”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it also has an impressive cast of young talents taking on some of the famous figures in the real-life story of SNL, including The Fabelmans star Gabriel LaBelle playing show creator Lorne Michaels, Licorice Pizza’s Cooper Hoffman as NBC network executive Dick Ebersol, and Bottoms’ Rachel Sennott as SNL writer (and Michaels’ ex-wife) Rosie Shuster.

The film is supposedly based on interviews that Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan did themselves with “all of the show’s living cast, scribes and crew.”

The original cast of SNL was Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Michael O’Donoghue, Gilda Radner, and the late John Belushi. (Actor George Coe also appeared as a cast member in just the first episode — so if Reitman’s film is just about that first night, theoretically he should appear in the movie as well.)

SNL is certainly a brand in American comedy, and its early days were quite fascinating, as chronicled previously in books like Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live by Doug Hill and Jeff Weingrad and Live From New York: The Complete, Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live by James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales. There’s definitely enough material there for a fiction movie — although finding actors who can convincingly play these very famous personalities (including Michaels himself) could be tricky.

LaBelle played a thinly veiled version of the young Steven Spielberg in The Fabelmans — which means this guy would have played both Spielberg and Lorne Michaels by the time he’s about 23. Pretty impressive.
