  • Here’s What Actually Happens to Eleven at the End of ‘Stranger Things’

Warning: This story contains major spoilers for the series finale of Stranger Things. Tread with caution.

The final-ever season of Stranger Things came to an epic, emotional close this past Wednesday (Dec. 31) when the finale premiered on Netflix. It’s been a thrilling near-decade-long ride for fans who have tuned in to watch the mysterious adventures of Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas ever since the ‘80s-set sci-fi coming-of-age series first premiered in the summer of 2016.

Now that it’s all over, we know how the story ends—with Vecna and the Mind Flayer defeated, the Upside Down destroyed for good, and Eleven seemingly left for dead following a heroic sacrifice to stop the government from using her blood to restart their experimental program to develop psychic children.

Does Eleven Really Die at the End of Stranger Things?

Eleven’s gut-wrenching apparent death comes when she decides to stay behind in the Upside Down—revealed in an earlier episode to be a wormhole connecting Earth to a far more sinister planetary dimension called the Abyss—as it collapses into the void of space. Persuaded earlier by her sister Kali, AKA 008, El seemingly decides to die in the Upside Down during a remote explosion so that the evil Dr. Kay cannot use her to restart their corrupt program with other kids, essentially ending the cycle of abuse. Before she sacrifices herself, Eleven briefly connects with Mike on the psychic plane, where the two share a passionate kiss and he pleads with her not to leave him.

However, during the finale’s epilogue, Mike suggests during a game of Dungeons & Dragons with Lucas, Max, Dustin, and Will that Eleven is still alive. He theorizes that a dying Kali, who was earlier mortally wounded by the military at the lab in the Upside Down, projected an illusion of El inside the portal to the Upside Down just moments prior to its destruction, leading everyone to believe El had died.

Mike believes that in the chaos of their capture, Eleven actually snuck away and escaped using one of the tunnels leading to the underground of Hawkins. He theorizes that from the lab in the Upside Down, Kali used the last of her strength to project an image of El, making everyone believe she had been destroyed along with the Upside Down.

According to series co-creator Ross Duffer, there was “never a version of the story where Eleven was hanging out with the gang at the end.”

“She represents magic in a lot of ways and the magic of childhood. For our characters to move on and for the story of Hawkins and the Upside Down to come to a close, Eleven had to go away. We thought it would be beautiful if our characters continued to believe in that happier ending even if we didn’t give them a clear answer to whether that’s true or not. The fact that they’re believing in it, we just thought it was such a better way to end the story and a better way to represent the closure of this journey and their journey from children to adults,” he shared in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.

“Eleven had to go away” is an interesting choice of words here. While it’s ultimately left up to the audience to decide whether or not Mike’s optimistic story is true or just a coping mechanism for the heartbroken teen and his friends, I don’t think Eleven’s fate is quite as ambiguous as the Duffer Brothers have presented. In fact, I’d say she’s absolutely alive—and I think can prove it. Here’s why.

Kali Showed a Change of Heart After Hopper’s Speech to Eleven

For most of Season 5, Kali is adamant in her belief that the military will never stop pursuing Eleven and that El must die for the “cycle” of abuse to end. She never wavers from this ideology, and even during her scenes back in Season 2, it’s clear Kali is stalwart in her beliefs, pessimism, and mistrust of others, including Hopper.

However, you can physically see Kali’s feelings toward the situation shift during Hopper’s speech urging El to survive when they’re in the lab in the Upside Down. “I have to end the cycle,” Eleven explains to Hopper when he discovers her plan to sacrifice herself when they later destroy the Upside Down for good.

“You will, but not like this; not with more violence, not with more pain. There’s already been so much pain. From the moment you were born your mother was taken from you, your childhood was taken from you. You’ve been attacked, manipulated, abused by terrible people. Life has been so unfair to you, so cruel. But you never let it break you and I need you to fight, kid. I just need you to fight one last time. Fight for the happy days on the other side of this, fight for a world beyond Hawkins,” Hopper tells her.

It’s a poignant moment that appears to move even stubborn Kali, whose expression changes dramatically as she lowers her gun, which up until then has been pointed at Hopper. It’s made clear to the audience that Kali’s mind has been changed, and it’s very likely the moment that inspires her to later help El escape so that her sister can indeed “fight for a world beyond Hawkins.”

Eleven Couldn’t Have Slipped Past the Military Back Into the Upside Down

After the military intercepts the gang when they return from the Upside Down, they force everyone out of Murray’s truck and detain the kids against the vehicle. If you watch closely, you can see Eleven jump down out of the truck, but that’s the last time we see her. With military personnel flanking all sides, including near the portal, it would have been impossible for Eleven to make her way back into the Upside Down.

However, in the chaos, and with Kali’s help keeping El hidden via an invisibility illusion, El could have easily slipped into Radio Shack to make her escape, considering how close the storefront was to the truck. Her slipping away into an area no one was really paying attention to makes much more sense than her somehow crossing to the other side of the wide, busy street and making her way past dozens of military guards who were specifically looking for her.

Eleven Contacted Mike Using Her Psychic Abilities Despite the Sonic Devices

It’s been established that Eleven cannot use her psychic powers whatsoever in the presence of the military’s high-frequency sonic devices, AKA the “Kryptonite,” which have rendered El nearly immobile a number of times in Season 5. It’s also made incredibly clear during the scene after she and the gang flee the Upside Down after defeating Vecna that Dr. Kay and the military are actively blasting more than a few of those devices in her proximity. So, why doesn’t Eleven react in pain, panic, and discomfort like she normally does?

Like Mike suggests, if El were physically standing in (or even just past) the portal to the Upside Down, she would absolutely have been in range of the high-frequency blasts, which means she would not have been able to contact Mike for their heartbreaking farewell. It stands to reason, then, that she had already gotten far enough away from the sonic blasts to briefly connect with Mike using her abilities.

Eleven Didn’t Have a Nosebleed After She Tapped Into Mike’s Mind

During the entirety of the series, not once when Eleven has used her abilities to tap into the psychic plane has she not had a nosebleed afterward, but somehow the Eleven we see standing in the portal to the Upside Down shows no signs of blood on her face after she contacts Mike. Either this marks one of the most obvious continuity errors in a major TV series, like, ever, or it’s a sign that the Eleven we see standing in front of us is, in fact, an illusion.

Eleven Basically Tells Mike He’ll Figure Out the Truth Someday, and He Does

During Mike and Eleven’s final goodbye when she taps into his mind, Eleven tells Mike that while he may not understand now, “someday” he will realize why she made the choice she made. “I need you to talk to the others. I need you to thank them for me, for being so kind to me and teaching me what it means to be a friend … Mike, I need you to help them understand my choice,” Eleven says.

“But I don’t understand,” Mike replies.

“I know, but you will. One day you will. You understand me better than anyone. You always have, from the day we met,” she tells him.

It’s a bittersweet bookend to their childhood romance, as Eleven is basically telling Mike that he always made her feel understood and accepted. But it’s also a deeper hint that pays off 18 months later during the epilogue, when Mike, whose memory is jostled by an audio speaker during graduation, realizes that Eleven couldn’t have possibly used her abilities in her supposed final moments due to Dr. Kay’s sonic devices. This is the revelation El knew Mike would eventually make; the revelation that he would be able to share with their friends at the right time.

    attachment-Kali Stranger Things

Kali Could Have Survived Longer Than We Thought

Many have argued that Kali could not have projected the illusion of El because she would have died during the timed explosion on the roof of the lab. However, if you pay close attention to the explosion, it doesn’t destroy the lab, but simply destroys the exotic matter sphere floating above the facility, with the bright blue blast shooting outward in the sky. The walls of the wormhole then begin to break down, no longer held stable by the exotic matter.

If the lab is the epicenter of the wormhole, then theoretically, Kali would have been able to survive until the very end of its destruction because the walls of the wormhole would have broken down first, sucking all matter inside the Upside Down into the void of space outward moving in. As such, Kali would have been the most protected and lasted the longest at its epicenter, allowing her illusion of El to linger for as long as it did.

Eleven Doesn’t Get Sucked Into the Void — She Simply Vanishes

With buildings and cars and massive structures being pulled violently into the void of space all around her, Eleven stands suspiciously still and remains untouched by the thousands of particles of dirt and debris flying in the air for an unusual amount of time as the Upside Down collapses around her.

If she were physically standing there, she would have likely been pulled away into the void long before the moment we finally see her suddenly vanish. If anything, she would have at the very least swayed or showed some physical reaction to the storm-like environment around her. Instead, it stands to reason that the moment we see El disappear, seemingly behind a wash of grey debris, is actually the moment Kali finally dies, releasing her illusion of El.

You Can Hear Eleven’s Breath and Heartbeat After She ‘Dies’

Seconds before Eleven disappears in the collapsing Upside Down, she closes her eyes and you can hear a deep exhale. Then, she’s gone. What should have been her final breath, though, isn’t so final, as immediately after the wormhole vanishes and everything goes quiet, we hear another breath. My theory is that the first breath is Kali taking her final breath, while the second breath we hear is El inhaling as she takes the first breath of her new, free life, indicating she is alive and well somewhere off screen.

What’s more, if you listen very closely on high volume, you can also hear a faint heartbeat immediately before the epilogue begins, when the screen is still completely black. You can easily miss it as it’s very subtle and is immediately followed by the sound of a construction worker laying bricks as Hawkins gets rebuilt. Still, it’s very much there, and the only explanation for it is that it’s a hint that Eleven is alive.

Mike’s Basement Bookshelf Offers a Subtle Hint

At the end of the series finale, we get a fleeting look at the bookshelf on which Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max store their D&D game books. If you look closely, you’ll find a title by John D. MacDonald called The Empty Copper Sea. (It’s especially visible in the behind-the-scenes image at the end of this Instagram gallery.)

Written in 1978, the mystery novel is about a man who fakes his death and flees to another country after seemingly drowning during a storm at sea. Sure, it could be a coincidence, but as we’ve seen historically during the series, there’s usually a good reason for these sorts of period-accurate references and Easter eggs. As for me, it’s more than enough to convince me that Eleven survived and is living her well-deserved best life. I believe.

  • Infamously Bad TV Series Finales That Are Actually Good

There are few things in this life worse than spending years watching a great TV show only to be totally disappointed by its final episode. This happens more often than it doesn’t—seriously, the list of all time great series finales is pretty short—but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting. It’s gotta be tough to close out something as long and complex as a television show in a way that will satisfy absolutely everybody watching it, and even harder if your long and complex television show happens to be very popular, but the pop culture landscape is littered with universally despised final episodes.

Because we’re feeling contrarian, we’ve decided to look back at some of these so-called worst TV finales of all time and see if they really are as bad as we remember. And what did we find out? Well, a lot of them are actually pretty good. Or, if not good good, they are at least thematically appropriate. Maybe it helped that we went into this expecting the worst. Maybe certain shows’ endings only work if you already know what they are. And maybe we were all way too picky way back when and didn’t know how good we had it.

Whatever the case, here are ten of the most unfairly maligned television series finales, and all the reasons why it’s worth giving them another shot. Some of these, we’ll admit, aren’t the best episodes out there, but a lot of them still work with what the show itself was going for. Even if something is unsatisfying, sometimes that dissatisfaction is still thematically appropriate. There are still bad finales out there (looking at you, eternally hated St. Elsewhere snow globe), but these deserve a rewatch.

  • ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Trailer Reveals the Show’s Story

Life’s still unfair for Malcolm in the Middle.

The much-anticipated first teaser for the series’ streaming revival, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, is now online, and it reveals the basic outline of the four-episode show, which takes place 19 years after the original: Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) doesn’t want anything to do with his family now that he’s grown up, but he’s forced back into the fold for a special party for his parents (Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek). Malcolm in the Middle-style chaos ensues.

Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer created and executive produced the new show as well. You can watch the first trailer for Life’s Still Unfair below:

Almost the entire original cast of the hit Fox sitcom, which aired 151 episodes across seven seasons from early 2000 to May 2006, returned for the revival. Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, has retired from acting; his role is portrayed in the new show by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. Jamie, the fifth son of the family, is played by Anthony Timpano. (A pair of brothers played Jamie on the old show.)

The original series followed Frankie Muniz’s Malcolm, a child prodigy, as he struggled to survive amidst his dysfunctional family. Here is the revival’s official synopsis:

After shielding himself from his family for over a decade, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is dragged back into their orbit when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair premieres on Hulu on April 10. The revival will run for four episodes.

Whether they’re best of, worst of, or a little more neutral, we’ve got lots of opinions and plenty of room to expand upon them in these lists of ours.

In this case, we’re talking television, and since nobody’s got time to watch a bad TV show (seriously, we’re leaving those habits behind in 2026), we’re focusing our energies on all the shows from this year that were actually good—and worth bingeing now that most of us are taking a much-deserved break before the start of the new year. • Poker Face: Natasha Lyonne Talks Peter Dinklage Replacing Her, TV Show’s Future

Golden Globe nominee Natasha Lyonne has finally opened up about Poker Face‘s Peacock cancellation and not returning as the lead in the mystery comedy’s potential third season. In the show, Lyonne portrayed the role of lie detector Charlie Cale for two seasons, which earned her an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Why is Natasha Lyonne exiting her lead role in Poker Face?

During a recent interview with THR, Lyonne confirmed that the creative team already knew about Peacock‘s looming cancellation even during the production of Poker Face Season 2. Because of this, she’s glad that she and creator Rian Johnson were able to direct the final episode together.

“We weren’t shocked! Isn’t that funny, how that happens? ‘News to some people,’ is what it should say! ‘New news to just us who haven’t been keyed in on the news as it was unfolding in real time,’” she shared. “I’m so grateful that Rian and I directed a finale last season called “The End of the Road” — that should have been a little clue, folks. We literally threw the car off a cliff! We also threw Root Beer in the shot day of — an improvised cameo by my beloved, tiny baby puppy who is 15 but doesn’t look a day over one, thanks to extensive plastic surgery.”

Lyonne also finally explained the reason why Game of Thrones vet Peter Dinklage will replace her as the lead in the possible Poker Face Season 3. Despite her exit, the Orange Is the New Black alum will remain as an executive producer and is still currently involved in the process of the show trying to find a new home.

“I adore Dinklage. Game of Thrones is obviously one of my favorite shows, but Peter is also one of my favorite people of all time. It’s kind of all good news,” Lyonne revealed. “For me, baby’s gotta direct some movies. I’ve been talking about it long enough. I’m very grateful I got to direct TV and write so much of it. I love what I do very much; I’m so grateful that I get to do it. And the unfortunate thing about a human timeline is that, much like the sand in the hourglass, these are the days of our lives.”

She continued, “I gotta get these movies under my belt, and I’m also excited about my Sky show with Matt Berry, Force & Majeure, a sci-fi retro endeavor. When we’re done talking, I’m going to get back to that writers’ room to finish that finale. We shoot in September.”

Poker Face was created, written, and directed by Rian Johnson in his first-ever TV project, with Tony Tost serving as its showrunner. The latest season featured guest stars Cynthia Erivo, John Mulaney, Simon Rex, Giancarlo Esposito, John Cho, Awkwafina, Method Man, Ego Nwodim, Kumail Nanjiani, Melanie Lynskey, Taylor Schilling, Katie Holmes, Alia Shawkat, and more.

  • Classic TV Shows With Only One Surviving Cast Member

It feels strange to realize that a TV show you’ve watched your whole life — thanks to endless reruns — now has just one surviving cast member.

Iconic shows like All in the Family came from a different time, but their special place in popular culture keeps them from ever feeling truly old. They’re always there in the background, still popping up in reruns and conversations decades later.

Time Does Not Stand Still for Classic TV

With the tragic passing of Rob Reiner in December 2025, All in the Family — widely seen as one of the most influential sitcoms, if not television programs, ever made — now has only one surviving core cast member: Sally Struthers.

    Sally Struthers and Rob Reiner

In a statement to Deadline, the veteran stage and screen actress expressed her heartbreak over the loss, saying, “There are no words. This is beyond devastating, and my heart is with [the Reiner] family.”

Struthers portrayed Gloria Stivic, the daughter of Archie and Edith Bunker and the wife of Reiner’s Michael “Meathead” Stivic. While Danielle Brisebois joined the series later as Stephanie, Struthers is the last living member of the show’s original core cast of four.

All in the Family is one of just a handful of classic TV sitcoms where only a single main cast member remains alive today. Below, we take a look at other iconic series that have reached the same bittersweet milestone.

  • ‘The Muppet Show’ Returns in New Revival Trailer

It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights. It’s time to give The Muppet Show another shot on TV.

It hasn’t been the best couple years for Jim Henson’s signature creations. It’s been years since they got a big-screen theatrical release (2014’s Muppets Most Wanted) and most of their straight-to-streaming shows and specials have gotten so-so reviews and very little attention. Over at Disney’s parks, the beloved Muppet*Vision 3D attraction — the last Muppets film Jim Henson personally worked on before his death — was permanently closed to make way for a new Monsters Inc. roller coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

So we’ll see how this latest Muppets revival does. This one is an attempt to resurrect the classic Muppet variety show of the 1970s, now executive produced by Seth Rogen.

The new show is, at least for now, is being billed as a “special event” and not a series; it will air on ABC and stream on Disney+.

You can watch the teaser for the Muppet Show reboot below.

Here is the new Muppet Show’s official synopsis:

It’s “The Muppet Show!” Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppet gang are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!

The Muppet Show premieres on Disney+ and ABC on February 4.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery Rejects Paramount’s Hostile Bid

The board of Warner Bros. Discovery has rejected Paramount’s hostile bid for the company.

In a statement, the chairman of the WBD board, Samuel A. Di Piazza, Jr., said…

Following a careful evaluation of Paramount’s recently launched tender offer, the Board concluded that the offer’s value is inadequate, with significant risks and costs imposed on our shareholders …This offer once again fails to address key concerns that we have consistently communicated to Paramount throughout our extensive engagement and review of their six previous proposals. We are confident that our merger with Netflix represents superior, more certain value for our shareholders and we look forward to delivering on the compelling benefits of our combination.

Paramount offered WBD $30 per share in cash for the company, more than Netflix in the deal that it and WBD agreed to earlier this month.

But Netflix’s deal is for just the Warner Bros. studio, HBO and HBO Max, and a few other components of the company; Paramount’s larger bid is for the entire company, including its linear cable companies like CNN, which under Netflix’s deal (and in a plan that has already been in motion for months) would be spun off into a separate company.

Part of Paramount’s argument in favor of their bid is that theirs is the one that holds the best chance of getting approved by the government, because of their supposed close relationship with President Trump and the current U.S. administration.

But just yesterday Trump was complaining about Paramount and CBS on social media, writing “for those people that think I am close with the new owners of CBS, please understand that 60 Minutes has treated me far worse since the so-called ‘takeover,’ than they have ever treated me before. If they are friends, I’d hate to see my enemies!” (Trump was responding to a recent interview on 60 Minutes with Marjorie Taylor Green that he didn’t like.)

Paramount’s rejected bid also included funds from Jared Kushner’s investment firm, Affinity Partners. But earlier this week Kushner’s group pulled out of the deal as well, writing in a statement “with two strong competitors vying to secure the future of this unique American asset, Affinity has decided no longer to pursue the opportunity. We continue to believe there is a strong strategic rationale for Paramount’s offer.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warners’ rejection of Paramount’s hostile bid was expected, and not necessarily the end of the battle for control of the media giant. Per their sources “Ellison and the Paramount team were waiting to see WBD’s response before deciding their next move. If Paramount comes back with a higher bid, Netflix will have the chance to match it, or respond with their own counter, effectively kicking off a new bidding war.”

  • The Worst Food I Ate in 2025 Inspired By Movies and TV

I still consider myself a film critic by trade. But more and more I eat movies and TV shows for a living.

A slight exaggeration, perhaps. But consuming a bunch of weird Denny’s food inspired by Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four one time ten years ago has turned into a decade of devouring bizarre dishes, snacks, drinks, and treats all based on films and television series. Do I have any regrets? Are you kidding? Of course I do! It’s pretty much all regret! But I made my bed and now I have to lie in it while digesting a Little Caesars pizza with four different flavors on a single pie.

That wasn’t the worst thing I ate for my job in 2025, and given the concept of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it was a fairly logical themed food item. But I ate some real doozies in 2025. My stomach hurts just thinking about them — although to be fair, my stomach hurts constantly no matter what I do lately.

But let’s just assume it hurts at this specific moment it’s because I’m thinking about some of the worst and weirdest things I consumed in the name of content this year. See the biggest offenders (ranked from almost edible to so bizarre they made me question the nature of reality) below — and if you want to read about all the movie food I ate over the last year, you can go to this page. And remember: Never do anything as a joke you’re not prepared to keep doing professionally for the next decade.

  • Amanda Seyfried to Star in Prime Video TV Show That HBO Max Passed On

Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried has signed on for the leading role in the upcoming series adaptation of Skinny Dip, based on Carl Hiaasen’s 2004 caper novel. Before Amazon MGM Studios acquired the project, it was originally set up at HBO Max earlier this year.

What do we know about Amanda Seyfried’s Skinny Dip show?

According to Deadline, Seyfried will be playing the role of Joey Perrone, a woman who is pushed off a cruise liner by her cheating husband. She managed to survive the fall, giving her a chance to plot revenge with a former cop. It is being written and executive-produced by Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.

“Perrone’s second anniversary didn’t go quite as planned. She expected earrings, but instead, her husband Chaz had alternate plans,” reads the show’s logline. “After unexpectedly finding herself on the other side of those plans, she vows to get revenge. Teaming up with a disgraced ex-cop, Joey sets out to make Chaz pay.”

In addition to leading the cast, Seyfried is also serving as an executive producer along with Bill Lawrence for Doozer, Hiaasen, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer. The Prime Video adaptation is a production by Warner Bros. Television.

Seyfriend’s most recent TV project was the Peacock miniseries Long Bright River, which debuted last March. She will next be seen in the psychological thriller The Housemaid with Sydney Sweeney and in the musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee with Lewis Pullman. The latter recently earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

  • ScreenCrush’s 2025 Holiday Gift Guide For Film and TV Fans

Every year, the staff of ScreenCrush offers their personal picks for the coolest gifts for movie and TV fans. While there are plenty of very cool options out there this fall — from Kino Lorber’s new edition of Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr. (complete with commentary from ScreenCrush’s Matt Singer) to the incredible (and massive!) new book on the making of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — this year we’re doing things a little bit differently.

That’s because this year we’ve got our very own ScreenCrush store, and it’s recently been expanded to include 4Ks, Blu-rays, DVDs, vinyl, comics, books, and more. There’s so much stuff in there that we’re highlighting a dozen of the coolest items with their own gift guide — with direct links to all of our favorites. Happy holidays and happy shopping to one and all.

    Dune (1984) 4K Special Edition

Prove to that special someone in your life that they are the Lisan al-Gaib of your heart with the Arrow 4K edition of David Lynch’s Dune. The disc’s special features include a new restoration of the film, two new audio commentary tracks from historians and film critics, and numerous documentaries and featurettes about the making of the cult sci-fi classic.

    Stay on Target Mug

Palpatine knows I can’t get anything done in the morning without my first (and second [and eighth]) cup of coffee. And this handsome mug will remind you the whole reason for the beverage inside: Caffeinate as fast as possible in order to stick to the task at hand, whether that be blowing up a moon-sized space station or returning an email to your boss.

    Good Is Dumb Shirt

Look, Star Wars and Star Wars parody merchandise is all well and good, but Spaceballs is the franchise in 2025 with real juice — especially with a new sequel finally in production nearly 40 years after the original movie. So what better time to honor the original movie’s most lasting legacy with a shirt devoted to its most profound line of dialogue? (These days, people might not realize it’s a joke, but whatever.)

    Predator 4-Movie Collection

Predator: Badlands reignited a lot of lapsed Predator fans’ love of the franchise, and a lot of them are going to want the Blu-ray box set of the first four Predator films. The set includes PredatorPredator 2Predators, and The Predator, along with a bevy of valuable and insightful special features.

Raiders of the Lost Ark Vinyl Soundtrack

The ScreenCrush store has a lot of movie soundtracks on vinyl, including a bunch of classics from composer John Williams. If you ask me, the one every film score fan should own on vinyl is Raiders of the Lost Ark — since that’s the format Indy himself would have used to listen to music back in 1936.

The Return of the Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake

Did you know an official sequel to The Blues Brothers came out this year? It’s set in 1997 (before the events of Blues Brothers 2000, phew) and it involves another mad pursuit of Jake Blues following a jailbreak. Co-written by Luke Pisano (son of Judy Belushi) and Dan Aykroyd’s daughter Stella (with a foreword from Dan Aykroyd himself), the hardcover continues the adventures of the world’s most legendary rhythm and blues band that debuted as a gag on Saturday Night Live.

Batman: The Complete Animated Series Box Set

When it comes to timeless animation, few series from the ’90s hold up better than Batman: The Animated Series. It helps that the show took place in a sort of futuristic past, which means its visual style hasn’t aged a day in the 30 years since it premiered. Neither have its incredible stories, which stand as some of the strongest ever told about the Dark Knight. The 12-disc set includes a dozen commentary tracks, a new featurette, and the movies Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero.

The DC Comics Encyclopedia, New Edition

If you have kids you want to introduce to the world of comics, books like The DC Comics Encyclopedia are essential. They’re filled with beautiful artwork and easy to understand mini biographies of all the greatest heroes and villains of the DC Universe. (Heck, if you haven’t read DC Comics in a while, you might find it very educational yourself.)

DC Comics Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures Vol. 1

If you’re buying DC-related gifts for someone who’s already seen (and maybe even owns) Batman: The Animated Series and a good DC reference book, try something a little more off the beaten path — like this collection of little-seen cartoons that originally aired in between the segments on the Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure and features the adventures of the Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and the size-changing hero the Atom. There are also bonus films featuring the entire Justice League and Teen Titans.

    Xeno’s Hoodie

Aliens on Earth? I’m not afraid, thanks to the wholesome and nutritious taste of new Xeno’s! They’re chest-bursting with delicious alien fruit flavors — and this hoodie will keep you warm even if you have to run for your life from a queen alien in a rapidly decompressing hangar bay.

100 Years of Warner Bros. Vol. 4 Box Set

In honor of Warner Bros.’ 100th anniversary, the company released a series of themed box sets containing many of the company’s greatest releases. Vol. 4, which is themed to “Thrillers, Sci-Fi & Horror,” is particularly stacked and contains classics like King Kong2001: A Space OdysseyBlade RunnerThe ShiningGoodfellasThe MatrixInception, and many more. It also includes several pins, and a booklet filled with production info and rare images. If you’re buying gifts for someone who’s growing tired of all their streaming subscriptions, it’s a great way to jumpstart a physical media collection.

    Nintendo Switch 2

The hot game console of the moment, and it even comes with Mario Kart World. If you want to buy one and send it to me, I won’t complain. It would save me the hassle of trying to find one for my kids.

  • The ‘Stranger Things’ Characters Most Likely to Die in the Final Season

It’s officially the end of an era as Stranger Things comes to its epic conclusion over the next few weeks, but will any of the beloved main characters meet their end in Season 5?

Since its streaming premiere in 2016, Stranger Things hasn’t exactly been shy about killing off characters, even in pretty horrific ways. We’ve lost fan-favorites such as Barb Holland, Bob Newby, Dr. Alexei and Eddie Munson; major characters such as Dr. Brenner and Billy Hargrove; as well as plenty of side characters and bad guys.

Show co-creators the Duffer brothers recently revealed that Season 5 will include the “the most violent death of any season.” That raises some alarm bells regarding who, exactly, will receive such a grisly end. (How any death on the show could possibly top the Mind Flayer turning its victims to oozing puddles of guts before absorbing them in Season 3, or Vecna mangling teens’ limbs and popping their eyeballs inside their skulls in Season 4, is a little beyond my comprehension.)

With the final season of Netflix’s smash ’80s-set sci-fi series finally here, here are my best guesses as to who will live, who’s in danger and who will die in Stranger Things Season 5.

    Safe-Bet Survivors

Dustin Henderson: One character I would argue is completely safe is Dustin, AKA the “Bard.” The beloved fan-favorite, who has held the group together with his sweet demeanor and optimism since Season 1, is simply too precious to kill off. Plus, everything he went through in Season 4 with Eddie’s death — and its lasting psychological impact on him in Season 5, judging by the trailer and teaser clips — demands resolution, and more pain and suffering just doesn’t feel right or fair for our little Dusty Bun.

Lucas Sinclair: Lucas similarly feels safe. The determined “Ranger” of the group had a rough Season 4 navigating high school basketball star Jason’s wrath, as well as the absolute horrors he witnessed when Vecna attacked Max. The group’s core warrior is needed more than ever now, especially to protect Max in her vulnerable comatose state, but I don’t see him not having a happy ending when all is said and done. He deserves it.

Max Mayfield: That said, let’s talk about Max. The fiery “zoomer” could have died at the end of Season 4. In fact, she pretty much did; she was only brought back from the abyss by Eleven’s psychic powers, but even so she suffered a sort of death already that has presumably left her consciousness trapped in Vecna’s dark realm with the rest of his victims. Her limbs may heal after being mangled during his attack on her, but it’s possible when Max inevitably returns (I’d be very surprised if she didn’t) that she’ll be perhaps blind and/or paralyzed to some extent. It seems unreasonable — and unusually cruel — to keep Max lingering just to kill her again.

READ MORE: Netflix Debuts First Look at Stranger Things Cartoon

Mike Wheeler: Then there’s Mike, the leader of the party; the “Paladin.” I don’t think he’s going anywhere. The connective tissue between so many important characters — Eleven’s boyfriend, Will’s best friend, Nancy’s brother, etc. — is too interconnected and important to kill off. It would be a massive blow to nearly all the characters, but it also wouldn’t make much sense to kill the “heart” of the group. I think he’s very safe.

Nancy Wheeler: Nancy won’t come out completely unscathed, but she’s gonna be just fine. (They don’t call her Nancy “Walk ’Em Down” Wheeler for nothin’.) Like her brother, Nancy serves as the connective tissue between a number of characters and storylines, especially the older teen crew, and she’s had one of the strongest and most interesting character arcs across seasons. I can’t see her story ending with anything other than Nancy becoming a powerful career woman with a bright future ahead. (And probably an advocate for concealed carry.)

Joyce Byers: It’s safe to say Joyce has been through quite enough throughout the course of Stranger Things. The stressed-out single mom fought tirelessly to find and save her missing son (“My boy!”) twice, watched her devoted boyfriend Bob die a gruesome death and then saw her best friend-turned-lover seemingly die, after which she trekked all the way to the frozen Soviet Union to rescue him from evil Russians and vicious Demogorgons. Homegirl’s been through it, and even though I believe Joyce would obviously sacrifice every inch of herself to save her kids and loved ones, I’m confident she’ll be rewarded with a peaceful ending.

Other characters: Speaking of Wheeler women, I also don’t think Nancy and Mike’s mom Karen is at risk of dying, and I highly doubt they’d kill younger sister Holly off either, especially considering she plays a more important role this season. Lucas’ quick-witted little sister Erica Sinclair is undoubtedly safe too (Vecna would rue the day if he even tried it). I also really don’t think they’d kill off Robin Buckley, whose death would be needless. Plus, she deserves her high school happy ending with her crush, Vickie.

    Better Watch Your Back

Eleven: There’s very likely a version of Stranger Things that ends with Eleven tragically sacrificing herself to seal the Upside Down once and for all. Since she is connected to Vecna, and since she is the one who sent One/Henry Creel into the Upside Down in the first place, it’s possible she’ll need to close the Upside Down from the inside, or that Vecna’s defeat could end in some sort of destruction for her. But I think this girl has suffered enough already, and I can’t see Eleven, the most iconic character in the series, not having a happy ending when all is said and done. If anything, my theory is that Eleven will ultimately lose her powers defeating Vecna. There could even be a fake-out death for the teen, but that would be treading old ground (see: Season 1 finale).

Will Byers: Like Eleven, Will is tethered to Vecna, which leads me to believe he could be in serious danger this season. It’s possible the group’s sweet “Wizard,” AKA “Will the Wise,” might have to die for Vecna to be truly defeated. But, like Eleven, Will has been through the most trauma in the series, and I think it’d be too cruel to kill off a character who hasn’t known much else but suffering ever since he was first taken to the Upside Down. When it comes to the main kids, Will and Eleven are most at risk, but I believe they’ll ultimately survive.

Jim Hopper: Hopper is most likely safe this season. After all, he’s already nearly died twice already, with his Season 3 fake-out demise playing a huge role in the events of Season 4. While it’s possible the Hawkins chief of police could die sacrificing himself to save Joyce or El, his death would be too huge a blow, and honestly too unfair considering all he’s lived through these past few seasons and all his character growth. Eleven needs her dad (she’s still got some papa trauma, after all), and both Hopper and Joyce deserve to go on that long-postponed dinner date at Enzo’s finally.

Jonathan Byers: Jonathan unfortunately hasn’t been given much to do in the show — other than serve as one third of the Nancy-Jonathan-Steve love triangle — since Season 1. Still, he’s a pillar of support for his mom Joyce and younger brother Will, and I think his role will only get more involved in the final season, with Will needing him more than ever. His death would be absolutely gut-wrenching for Joyce. Imagine if she spent five seasons trying to protect one Byers boy, only to lose the other? It would be ironic, even poetic, but much too cruel. I don’t think Jonathan’s 100 percent safe, but I think he’ll make it out in the end.

Steve Harrington: Everyone’s favorite babysitter has been on borrowed time since the beginning. The franchise fan-favorite was never meant to make it out of Season 1 alive, the Duffer Brothers once confirmed, but actor Joe Keery was so adored on set that Steve’s destiny as the quintessentially doomed ‘80s jock bully with fabulous hair was rewritten, making him a core part of the cast. Here’s the thing: Steve dying isn’t an impossible notion, as I could easily see him sacrifice himself to save Dustin, Nancy or Robin. It would have a huge emotional impact on fans, but I also think it would be too harsh, and too predictable, to kill off one of the show’s most lovable characters. I think Steve’s going to make it. (And if not, I’m cancelling my Netflix subscription.)

Dr. Owens: Dr. Owens has been on the chopping block ever since he nearly died at the claws of the Demodogs back in Season 2. The good-natured doctor formerly in charge of the Nina project has served as one of Joyce, Eleven and friends’ allies for the past few seasons, but fans last saw him handcuffed to a pipe in his and Dr. Brenner’s secret facility at the end of Season 4. The building he was in exploded, but it was left ambiguous whether or not he made it out in time and survived. I think we’ll see Dr. Owens again in this final season, but if we do, I can also see him sacrificing himself to save Eleven and/or the kids.

    It Was Nice Knowing You

Vecna: There’s not a chance Vecna’s making it out of the final season unscathed. While a tragic backstory might come to light this season, making Henry Creel a more sympathetic figure, Vecna has done too much evil to walk away alive. (He mangled innocent kids and imploded their eyeballs, for goodness’ sake!) There’s no redeeming him — El’s going to kick his ass upside down, right-side up and every which way.

Murray Bauman: Ah, Murray. The former investigative journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist has provided both comedic relief and necessary exposition ever since he was first introduced in Season 2. He has fantastic chemistry with Joyce and Hopper — especially during Season 4, which put the character to great use during the whole Russian prison escape subplot. He’s a little crazy, and a whole lot of ride-or-die … but that’s why I think Murray will meet his end this season. As well-liked as he is, the character doesn’t hold much emotional weight in the grand scheme of things. I think he’ll go out in a wild blaze of glory — like, literally a big explosion or similar, taking down a bunch of Demogorgons or bad guys out with him.

Ted Wheeler: The Wheeler family has been through some serious s– throughout the course of the series, but they’ve somehow managed to all make it out alive and in relatively good condition … until now. It’s clear from the trailer and teasers that Mike’s little sister Holly will be targeted by Vecna this season, and that she and mom Karen will have a frighteningly close encounter with a Demogorgon in their home. There’s a shot of Nancy sobbing as she cleans blood off her hands frantically in the trailer. Whose blood is that? Is it her dad’s? Sadly, I suspect tired ol’ Ted will tragically meet his end this season, giving the Wheeler family a permanent scar and raising the stakes for Nancy and Mike in a big way.

Other characters: Two new major characters will be introduced in the final season. According to Netflix, scientist Dr. Kay (played by Linda Hamilton) will be a brand-new “adversary” for the group as she mercilessly heads up the military operation in Hawkins and hunts for Eleven. Based on the deaths of previous season-based villains, such as Season 1’s ruthless Agent Connie Frazier and Season 3’s Soviet Terminator dupe Grigori, it’s obvious this strategy isn’t going to end well for her. On the other hand, we’ll also meet Derek Turnbow, a little boy in Holly Wheeler’s grade, who — based on the teasers — will seemingly team up with the kids this season. My guess is Derek will be that lovable, sweet character that inevitably dies a very horrible death. (RIP Bob, RIP Alexei, RIP Eddie.)

  • The Duffer Brothers Finally Squash Creepy ‘Stranger Things’ Vecna Fan Theory

The creators of Stranger Things are finally setting the record straight on a persistent theory about the series’ villain that has plagued die-hard fans since Season 4.

Ever since Vecna was revealed to be pulling strings behind the scenes since the show first aired back in 2016, many viewers have been wondering if Eleven’s nemesis — AKA Henry Creel, AKA One — was secretly present during a specific scene in Season 1 of the hit Netflix show.

Now, thanks to a new interview with the Duffer brothers, we finally have an answer.

Is Vecna in Season 1 of Stranger Things?

Fans have long been wondering if Vecna makes a secret appearance in the first season of Stranger Things. The oft-debated moment comes during one of the first episode’s earliest scenes, a few minutes into the episode, right before Will Byers goes missing while biking home from his friend Mike Wheeler’s house.

As Will bicycles home down a foggy, dark street, a mysterious, humanoid figure emerges from the darkness, scaring Will and making him fall off his bike. After tumbling into the woods, he runs home, where the creature eventually follows him and, after a brief, terrifying game of cat and mouse, pulls Will into the Upside Down.

Some fans have thought that the strange figure in the street, though initially believed to be the Demogorgon, was actually Vecna this whole time. However, that isn’t the case. Speaking to Digital Spy UK, the Duffer brothers squashed the fan theory that Vecna is the figure Will sees in the road in Season 1, Episode 1. It really is just the Demogorgon after all.

“What’s interesting, ‘cause Will’s biking, and he sees sort of a silhouetted figure in the road… I’ve seen people claim that that’s Vecna or that we went back and changed it. But that was, I swear, the demogorgon,” Ross Duffer told the publication.

“Back in Season 1 … we obviously hadn’t designed Vecna or anything. There was a more sentient evil behind everything in the Upside Down. But obviously this is long before Vecna had been designed,” he added.

Matt Duffer added that even though some viewers believe they’ve been retroactively editing previously aired episodes, that isn’t the case: “It would have been cool if we had done it. Also, we’re not George Lucas-ing anything! I think the fans think we’re doing that. If you think we’ve done that you’re hallucinating and you can check the Blu-rays.”

However, there’s another fan theory about Vecna’s presence in Season 1 that might actually hold some water. During the same scene, when Will arrives home to hide from the Demogorgon, something unlocks his front door using psychic powers.

It’s a spooky moment we’ve never had a real answer for, but it seems Season 5 will finally provide that answer — and Vecna, who actually has telekinesis, makes a lot of sense now that we know he was after Will all along.

“I will say, you know the lock that gets opened telepathically… the Demogorgons aren’t telepathic, so I’ll say that much. People have noticed that,” Ross hinted.

Stranger Things Season 5 premieres with four episodes on November 26. Three additional episodes will stream on December 25, with the finale out on New Year’s Eve.

  • Paramount+ TV Show Sets New Viewership Record for Streaming Service

Following last Sunday’s Season 2 premiere, Taylor Sheridan’s oil rig drama Landman continues to exceed expectations as it breaks another viewership record for Paramount+. This new update comes ahead of the release of the Billy Bob Thornton-led show’s Season 2, Episode 2, titled “Sins of the Father,” which will air this November 23.

“In Season 2, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets – and Tommy Norris’s breaking point may be closer than he realizes,” reads the Season 2 synopsis. “Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller, and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble – it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.”

How well did the Landman Season 2 premiere perform for Paramount+?

According to THR, the first episode of Landman Season 2 has already garnered a record-breaking 9.2 million views worldwide, a few days after its premiere. It actually performed three times better than the show’s Season 1 debut last year. Because of this, it has now become Paramount+’s biggest season premiere to date.

Landman is created and executive-produced by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. The ensemble cast includes Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez, with Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña as guest stars. The series was executive produced by David Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin, Jason Hoch, J.K. Nickell, Megan Creydt, and Peter Feldman. It is a production by MTV Entertainment Studios.

“Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, the series is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs,” reads the show’s logline. “Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.”

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Spoiler? Noah Schnapp Drops Mysterious Hint About Vecna

Will Vecna get a redemption arc in the final season of Stranger Things?

During a recent interview with TV Guide, Noah Schnapp and Millie Bobby Brown were asked about which villains from their hit Netflix series they consider “misunderstood,” and Schnapp might have inadvertently dropped a major clue about the upcoming final season with his somewhat mysterious — albeit cut-short — answer.

“Low-key Vecna, because like…” Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on the show, begins.

Brown suddenly interrupts Schnapp’s answer before he can put his foot further in his mouth. “Really? No, shut up. That’s it, now be quiet,” the actress who plays Eleven on the series says, laughing.

When pressed by the interviewer if Vecna could be considered “misunderstood” based on his gruesome actions in Season 4, Brown effortlessly steers the conversation away with her media training.

“Let’s just not even [go there], because today has been a day and we want to do so much for you, but we’re not smart enough to dance around these questions,” she says playfully.

Fans online are already buzzing about the implications of Schnapp’s answer. Could this mean that Vecna will somehow be redeemed? Does Vecna, AKA Henry Creel, AKA One, have some ultra-tragic backstory we’ll discover as Season 5 rolls out over the next few weeks? (To be fair, the Broadway stage show Stranger Things: The First Shadow does go into Henry’s upbringing and includes a lot of pretty important exposition, but I won’t spoil all that here.)

Still, while it seems unlikely that Vecna of all people — or, erm, interdimensional beings — could see some character redemption after mangling, sucking the eyeballs out of and seemingly trapping the souls of innocent teenagers in his nightmare realm last season, stranger things have happened. (Sorry.)

Fans have long theorized that Vecna will use Will, who was connected to the Mind Flayer in Season 2, against Eleven in the upcoming fifth and final season. Now, it seems that will indeed be the case following the official Season 5 trailer, which revealed Will will be used as Vena’s pawn and under his control, in some capacity.

Meanwhile, a recent clip of the forthcoming season’s opening scene reveals what really happened to Will when he first went missing in the Upside Down all those years ago, including his first horrifying meeting with Vecna.

Season 5 takes place in the fall of 1987. Netflix’s official synopsis for the season reads:

Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.

Stranger Things Season 5 will be released in three parts: The first four episodes will hit Netflix on November 26, the next three episodes will begin streaming on Christmas (December 25), and the series finale will air on New Year’s Eve (December 31).

Episodes will be available to stream beginning at 5PM PT/8PM ET on their respective dates.
