    In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles, the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) and the Ambassa police seized marijuana worth Rs 70 lakh from the Ambassa area in Tripura’s Dhalai district, according to an official statement from the Assam Rifles on Sunday. The seized marijuana weighed 160 kilogrammes, it added.

    Marijuana is a kind of drug extracted from the cannabis plant. “Based on credible information, a joint operation was launched by the Assam Rifles Battalion in Radhanagar, the CRPF and Ambassa PS. The team seized 160 kg of marijuana worth Rs 70 lakh and one heavy vehicle, said the official statement.

    “Seized contents were handed over to Ambassa PS, Dhalai District, Tripura, on December 17, 2023 for further investigation and legal proceedings,” it added. Earlier this month, the Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department recovered marijuana worth Rs. 10.73 lakh in the general area of Zote in Assam’s Champhai district and arrested two Myanmar nationals.

    The Marijuana was being brought from Darkhai, Myanmar to the Indian side. (ANI)

    AGARTALA: Assam Rifles Battalion apprehended two persons and seized 257 Kg of marijuana with an approximate cost of Rs 1 crore in Gen. A Ambassa, under Ambassa PS, Dhalai District, Tripura, on Friday, officials informed through a statement. Acting on a tip-off, an Assam Rifles team launched a joint operation with police representatives from Ambassa Police Station in the general area of Ambassa, under Ambassa PS, Dhalai District,Tripura. The apprehended individuals, along with the seized contents, were handed over to Ambassa PS for further investigation and legal proceedings.

    Earlier on Tuesday, in a joint operation, the Assam Rifles and Kamalpur police station seized 23 grams of drugs worth over Rs 9.2 lakh and apprehended a person in Tripura’s Dhalai district, officials informed through a statement. Based on a tip-off, an Assam Rifles team of Radhanagar Battalion, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (E), launched a joint operation with a team from Kamlapur police station in the general area of Erarpar Bazar. During the operation, the joining team apprehended one person and recovered 23 grams of grade-1 heroin worth approximately 9.2 lakh from his possession, as per the statement. (ANI)

    DHALAI: Assam Rifles on Saturday recovered 498 kg of marijuana worth Rs 2 crore from a person in the Dhalai district of Tripura. Assam Rifles said the accused was apprehended in the Ambassa area of Dhalai following the seizure of Marijuana. “Radhanagar Battalion of Agartala sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) yesterday apprehended one person from Ambassa, Dhalai district of Tripura and seized 498 kg of Marijuana worth Rs 2 crore from the accused,” an official statement informed.

    Earlier, on June 30, Tripura Police arrested two persons with over 3 kg of heroin valued at Rs 13.8 crore in the international market from the Ambassa area in Dhalai district. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha praised the police over the seizure, saying that it highlights their commitment to end the drug menace in the state.

    “Tripura Police and other security agencies have been continuously working towards the goal of making Tripura drugs-free. In a remarkable achievement, Dhalai district police during an anti-narcotics drive seized contraband items worth about Rs 14 crore from a vehicle and arrested two persons in this connection. This is the single biggest seizure of drugs in the state. Such efforts highlight the Police’s commitment to end the drug menace,” CM Manik Saha said. (ANI)
