  • A message from Prince William County: Don’t be so trashy – WTOP News

Prince William County, Virginia, has put a lot of effort into cleaning up roadside trash over the last few years, but county leaders hope people will do better.

Prince William County, Virginia, has put a lot of effort into cleaning up roadside trash over the last few years, but county leaders hope people will do better.

At a recent board of supervisors meeting, Khattab Shammout, director of Prince William County Public Works, said in 2025, about 167,000 pounds of trash were collected by three county crews.

“We’re going to continue on, this is not a one-time thing. You clean the roadway, and in half an hour, it may get dirty,” Shammout said.

In 2026, the county will have five crews picking up trash and expect to collect closer to 180,000 pounds of wrappers, bags, cups and all sorts of other things.

Prince William County also partners with a nonprofit to pick up litter on private property and encourages people to participate in Dumpster Day events, where county residents can drop off trash. According to a county report, about 20 tons of trash total were collected at 12 events in 2025.

On the recycling front, the Recycling Program Unit connected with over 3,000 community members at more than 35 events in 2025.

A social media campaign featuring a mascot called Trashy the Racoon is also underway. In addition to that, the county plans to connect with local homeowner’s associations, make presentations in schools and explore a placement of a litter prevention campaign message on the county tax mailer.

  • Thousands Of Pounds Of Litter Removed From OR Rivers, Streams, Creeks – KXL

PORTLAND, OR – On Wednesday, October 15, SOLVE, in partnership with Clackamas Water Environment Services, hosted the final event of the Waterway Cleanup Series at High Rocks Park, marking the conclusion of its eighth year.

With the dedication of 41 volunteers, 490 pounds of trash was diverted from the Clackamas River. This wrap-up event capped a summer-long initiative that mobilized more than 1,700 volunteers across 60 events, resulting in the removal of over 31,000 pounds of litter from rivers, streams, and creeks across the region, roughly equivalent to removing the weight of 200 tires from Oregon’s waterways.

Running from May through October, the Waterway Cleanup Series focused on protecting the health of rivers and streams across the Pacific Northwest, including the Molalla, Rogue, Siletz, Willamette, Clackamas, and Columbia Rivers. Volunteers tackled litter before it could flow downstream and harm wildlife, helping to ensure cleaner water for recreation and for future generations.

“Each bag of litter collected is a small but powerful act of care for our rivers,” said Kris Carico, Chief Executive Officer of SOLVE. “I know it can feel overwhelming to pick up the total amount of debris accumulating in our waterways, but every single piece removed makes a difference. It’s the combined effort of volunteers across the region that keeps our rivers cleaner and healthier for everyone.”

The partnership between SOLVE and Clackamas Water Environment Services has been a part of this effort for eight consecutive years.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Tells INSANE Story About Time She Fed A Very ‘Hungry’ Robert Pattinson Food Out Of Her Trash! – Perez Hilton

Jennifer Lawrence is reflecting on a time she did Robert Pattinson SO dirty.

The Oscar winner appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday and told an INSANE story about her Die My Love co-star:

“I had my girlfriends over. We were in our pajamas. We were watching Little Women. It was December … And he was like, ‘Hey, I just wrapped something like a block away from you.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god!’ because Rob is one of the girls. Like, he wants to gossip, he is just one of the gals. And so I was like, ‘Come over!’”

Hilariously, J.Law noted the Twilight star manifests a certain “maternal” instinct in her because of his tendency to neglect self-care:

“He’s also like my daughter — he’s a great father, he’s a professional, he shows up on time, but I wouldn’t trust that he would put a coat on … He’s not going to eat on time. He brings out a very maternal [side].”

    She continued:

“So he comes in and I give him a hug, and he’s like, ‘Do you have any food? I’m so hungry.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, come in, come in.’ And then he goes to the bathroom, and I do have food, but it’s in the trash.”

Too bad, right? No… Jennifer went dumpster diving to fish it out! She continued:

“And so while he was in the bathroom, I was just, like, pulling food out of my garbage can.”

The No Hard Feelings star said her friends were shocked by her questionable actions, but that she continued nonetheless… We hope they had JUST tossed their leftovers out! Hopefully still contained in takeout boxes or something!

The Silver Linings Playbook actress recalled The Batman star coming out of the bathroom and chowing down no questions asked:

“And then, so, he eats it and we’re all just, like, watching him eat this trash. And then when he was finished, he was like, ‘I’m still hungry, is there more?’ And I’m like, ‘Well there is, but it’s in the garbage.’”

Any thoughts on what happened next? Rob scoffed in disgust?? Questioned if the food he had already been eating was from the garbage? NOPE. Jennifer continued:

“He’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t mind.’ And he just pulled it out of the trash and just kept eating it.”

    OMFG!

Norton joked he “sounds like the ideal house guest.” Ha! Watch her tell the story (below):

Well, be warned if you’re ever at J.Law’s house and she serves you food, it might be from the trash!

Reactions, Perezcious readers?? Would YOU eat Jennifer Lawrence’s garbage?! Let us know in the comments down below!

  • Sacramento neighborhoods deal with used illegal fireworks trash after Fourth of July

Sacramento neighborhoods deal with used illegal fireworks trash after Fourth of July

Illegal fireworks lit up Sacramento’s sky this Fourth of July, sparking fires in some areas and leaving others to deal with the trash. KCRA 3 drove around Sacramento for two hours and spotted several piles of used illegal fireworks dumped on the sides of the streets. In Sacramento, leaving used illegal fireworks trash on the street is considered illegal dumping. The city is calling on residents to report it. Jesa David with the city’s Recycling and Solid Waste Division said by reporting it, the city is made aware of where it is and can get it cleaned up. “We want to be sure to be extra careful to dispose of those properly,” said David. “They have a very high potential to start a fire.”David said whether they’re used or unused fireworks, they should be soaked in water for at least 15 minutes and wrapped in a plastic bag before putting them in the garbage container. People can call 311 or make a report online. If the report leads to someone being prosecuted, the person who made the report could get a reward. • Searching for ‘Forever Chemicals’ From an Endless Landfill Fire

Searching for ‘Forever Chemicals’ From an Endless Landfill Fire

Testing done by ADEM, Butler said, also did not assess water samples taken from sites closest to the dump. And while PFAS compounds are certainly common, he said, experts have concluded that elevated levels in the human body can be a warranted health concern.

At this month’s meeting, many residents agreed with Butler, expressing a lack of confidence that ADEM—or any government officials—are looking out for residents in and around the Moody site.

Jeff Wickliffe, chair of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, told those gathered that he believes more data is needed to fully understand what impacts the site could have had on those living nearby.

Because there are no natural sources of forever chemicals, Wickliffe said, it’s difficult to believe claims that only vegetative material was burned at the site given the levels present in the water. Other waste was likely present, he argued, in order to produce the levels of PFAS compounds present in discharge from the Moody site.

Questions around the source of PFAS in residents’ blood, if present, can be addressed by taking background measurements of individuals who weren’t exposed to the impacts of the fire and resulting pollution, for example, Wickliffe said.

Testing residents’ blood or urine for the presence of such compounds, then, may allow locals to document at least one avenue of potential impacts from the Moody site on their health, he said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), increases in exposure to PFAS compounds can increase cholesterol, decrease birth weight, lower antibody responses to vaccines, and increase risks of pregnancy-induced hypertension, preeclampsia, and kidney and testicular cancer.

The risk of health impacts from PFAS is determined by exposure factors like dose, frequency, and duration, as well as individual factors like sensitivity or disease burden, according to the federal agency.
