KUALA LUMPUR, MalaysiaβA U.S. military helicopter and a jet fighter from the same aircraft carrier crashed into the South China Sea within 30 minutes of each other on Sunday.
The two aircraftβs five crew members were rescued and are in stable condition, the U.S. Pacific Fleet said on X. Both aircraft had taken off from the USS Nimitz, Americaβs oldest aircraft carrier that is returning to its home base on the U.S. West Coast for decommissioning scheduled for next year.
HAMILTON β Rico Lauranzano, a 31-year-old Beverly resident, died from severe injuries received in single motorcycle crash Thursday night on Bay Road.
On Thursday around 7:50 p.m., Hamilton Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 651 Bay Road, Route 1A, for a possible crash involving a motorcycle. Hamilton police arrived to find a severely damaged motorcycle on the sidewalk across from 651 Bay Road and a helmet in the roadway. After searching the adjacent property, officers found a man, later identified as Lauranzano, who was severely injured.

Two experienced and well-trained firefighter/paramedics have joined the Gloucester Fire Department as lateral transfers from the Amesbury Fire Department.

SALEM β An ordinance signed into law by Mayor Dominick Pangallo Monday eliminates Salemβs minimum parking mandates for new multifamily housing developments with three or more units.
The ordinance, intended to address the hundreds of unused parking spaces throughout the city, requires new multifamily housing projects receiving a Site Plan Review to identify how they will address residentsβ transportation needs by submitting a βTransportation Demand Management plan.β

BOSTON β Scofflaws take notice: The MBTA announced Thursday it will launch a renewed effort to collect subway fares with written warnings and fines of up to $150 early next month.
A wide-ranging transportation bond law in January 2021 spurred the restructuring of fare evasion penalties, and the T has not issued a warning or citation for the offense since at least that year, according to its annual reports. The T put 16 “fare engagement representatives” to work around the subway system starting in October and saw fare collection increases of up to as 35% at stations where the representatives were on-site.

SALEM β The city of Salem recently expanded its bike share program with the introduction of 20 pedal-assist electric bikes that are now available to ride at Bluebikes stations around the city.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportationβs Shared Streets and Spaces grant program will fully fund the purchase of the e-bikes and fund continued program operations costs. The 20 new e-bikes, as well as about 100 conventional bikes, can be found at 18 stations in Salem.

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA β A two-car accident on the northbound side of Route 128 in Manchester-by-the-Sea late Wednesday night forced authorities to close a portion of the highway and sent two victims to area medical facilities, both suffering non-life threatening injuries.
Manchester fire Chief James βJakeβ McNeilly said he believed one male passenger and one female passenger sustained injuries in the accident. The accident was reported to Manchester police and fire officials by North Shore Regional 911 at about 10:56 p.m. on Wednesday.

GLOUCESTER β Police arrested a 48-year-old Lynn man and charged him with defacing property and wanton destruction of property at the train platform on Railroad Avenue on Tuesday at 5:41 p.m., according to a police report.
