  • Exclusive Interview: Elizabeth Nichols Talks All Things ‘I Got A New One,’ and More!

    [ad_1]

When we look at the bright new class of country music, one of the stars shining the brightest is undoubtedly Elizabeth Nichols! From her breakout hit ‘I Got A New One’ to her newest track ‘Daughter,’ we are getting to watch an artist fully come into her own, discover her sound, and get better with each song.

We were lucky enough to chat with Elizabeth Nichols all about her success so far, new music, and receiving the coveted Kelly Clarkson treatment.

    Listen to ‘Daughter’ here!

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for chatting with us! To start us off, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
I’d say probably clever and honest. Those are two elements that I see in all my favorite songs. I try to balance the two. I don’t want to be too clever that I’m not honest, or too straightforward that it kills the clever.

‘Tough Love’ is officially out! This acts as your debut multi-track project! What emotions have been going through your head as these seven tracks now live out in the world?
I am so grateful. If you had told me one year ago that this is where I would be, I would have never believed you. The idea that some group of girls in another state is in the car with their friends, singing one of my songs, is the most surreal part of it all. Music is such a beautiful part of life, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to make it.

The video for ‘I Got A New One’ perfectly encapsulates each lyric of the track! Can you tell us a bit about that creative process and crafting the visuals?
I grew up on Taylor Swift music videos. I love when a video really tells a story in the same way a song does, so it was important to me to really bring that visual side to life. We got to work with amazing creative directors, and it was so fulfilling to see the story turn from words on a page to a scene I got to be a part of.

What has it been like for you to see the way people have latched onto ‘I Got A New One’? Did you have any inkling that this song would be one that people took to?
I Got A New One’ was the first single I’d ever released, so I had no idea what to expect at all. I am so grateful that people like it and it’s connected the way that it has—that song truly changed my life.

We know that ‘Ain’t Country’ was your first jump into writing a country track. What changes about the songwriting process when you’re writing with a genre in mind?
I was about 10 years old the last time I had written any kind of song, so ‘Ain’t Country’ was the first song I’ve written as an adult, and I think that country sound just kind of naturally came out of me because that’s what I grew up listening to. I also love storytelling and lyricism, and country music is a genre that really celebrates those things and makes space for that part of the craft.

Ahead of the release of Tough Love, was there a song you were most looking forward to seeing fans’ reactions to?
I was most excited for fans to hear ‘Tough Love’ because it was the one song that I hadn’t teased at all before its release, so nobody had heard a single note of it. It was also the newest song out of the seven—I wrote it only a few weeks before the EP came out. There is something about how honest it is that I hoped fans would connect with.

We have to ask, ‘I Got A New One’ has officially received the Kelly Clarkson treatment! What was that like for you?
I was and am extremely grateful. Kelly Clarkson is literally an American icon. She is so unbelievably talented, so the fact that she liked a song I wrote enough to cover it is a huge compliment—my family and I were so excited when it happened.

Once again, thank you so much for chatting with us! Before we let you go, what can fans look forward to as we round out the last few months of 2025?
Some more music! I have a new single coming out in August. I’m also playing some shows throughout the end of this year, which I’m really excited about. I love meeting people out on the road.

Check out more of our exclusive interviews here!

We would love to hear from you! What is your favorite song off of Tough Love by Elizabeth Nichols? Let us know by commenting below or by tweeting @TheHoneyPOP! We are also on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok!

Soundcheck Recap: Shawn Mendes, Halsey, And More!

    [ad_1]

Blotched with pink and white swirls, slapped with a plane sticker, or—if you’re one of those minimalist types—just a classic sky blue, what most would call ‘travel luggage,’ we true fans know as ‘concert time!’ It’s our one foolproof excuse to drop everything, pack up, and spend a few glorious days watching our faves flounce on stage. That’s why we become the frazzled Gollum upon collecting even more digital tickets, snarling “my precious” whenever we join the headache-inducing queue. Luckily for you, we’re about to give you even more chances to experience live music with a series called Soundcheck Recap! We’ll review the latest touring news each week, recount the best moments, and show you how to make your ticket list scroll for days.

    Busted Vs. McFly

It’s the ultimate toss-up of the boy bands, or if you’re more of a lover than a fighter, you’re probably cheesing at seeing all of them on stage together. Just imagine the shenanigans! In a moment we captured, Busted and McFly announced that they would travel around Europe together late next year. The tour will begin in Birmingham and then wrap up in Belfast, and though the general sale kicked off on the 18th, the ticketing gods have still favored latecomers by having plenty still available.

    Shawn Mendes

Where thou art, Shawny boy? It turns out that despite the album release—that doesn’t take a liking to our nickname for him but just his first name itself—moving from October 18th to November 15th, it’s still rolling out with a bang. One that features an extreme screen, popcorn brewing until our fingers taste buttery. Shawn Mendes: For Friends And Family Only (A Live Concert Film) will appear at selected worldwide cinemas just one day before the album comes out, so November 14 for those who aren’t human calculators. The exact locations and ways to purchase tickets will shuffle out at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET on October 24.

    Shakira

‘Whenever, Wherever’ may just have to be the answer for American fans when it comes to Shakira’s shaking hips as she’s upgraded those dates to full-on stadiums! We should’ve known that was coming, as she’s been a titan lately, stealing Taylor Swift’s lucky number 13 and making it her own by selling out that amount of stadiums for her international leg in under two hours. Woah, wiping sweats off our brows and still not being able to think about anything as prestigious as we can do in that time frame. Next year is shaping up to be her year with the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour!

    Carrie Underwood

Las Vegas is the likely place to see someone slash their cheating exes tiers, so it’s a good fortune that Carrie Underwood has been there singing such sassy tunes for her REFLECTION residency. However, soon enough, they will have to find another singer to give them that pep talk as its final dates have been announced. The residency will wrap up on April 12th. Tickets for these final dates also went on sale on Friday, but as always, there are still a few to choose from, so it’s better to be late but not wholly late.

That repetitional damage wasn’t in evidence Friday night, when she took the stage for the first of three sold-out shows in the redder-than-red state of Florida. Perhaps the crowd was bolstered by out-of-town celebrities who were also in attendance—TMZ spotted Tom Brady, Miley Cyrus, Serena Williams, Hoda Kotb, and Savannah Guthrie in the crowd.

Also present was Jason Kelce, the brother of Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The former Philadelphia Eagle either fell asleep or pretended to during the show, reports the Post. But by keeping his eyes closed, he missed some surprises: BuzzFeed notes that she debuted four new costumes for this final run of shows, while the Miami Herald reports that Florence Welch appeared on stage for “Florida,” her duet with Swift from her most recent album, The Tortured Poet’s Department.

We Spent A Night Out With Badflower In Los Angeles

    [ad_1]

If you’re a fan of music artists such as My Chemical Romance, Arrows in Action, and Linkin Park, you’re going to LOVE Los Angeles-based band, Badflower. We caught them on night two in Los Angeles on their ‘No Place Like Home Tour’ and we’re not gonna stop talking about how good it was!

Image Source: Jay Flores for THP

This was our first time seeing the band, and our expectations were surpassed, to say the least. Josh, Joey, Alex, and Anthony gave one of the best shows we’d ever seen. And, of course, how could we ever dislike a band that gives us silly little banter on stage? From ordering a fan Chipotle to eating a banana on stage, Josh Katz is one of our favorite silly frontmen.

They sang some of their top hits like ‘Don’t Hate Me,’ ‘Johnny Wants to Fight,’ and ‘Promise Me,’ which not only tugged at our heartstrings, but also made us scream the lyrics at the top of our lungs. There’s no way to avoid finger-pointing at the lead singer while singing out your favorite lyrics, is there? (Because if there is, we don’t wanna know the solution.)

Along with having bop after bop after bop on the setlist, the only other thing we could focus on was their HAIR. Joey and Alex with their long, luscious hair, and Josh’s his pink hair. We couldn’t look away!

To close out the show, the band sang their newest single, ‘Detroit,’ as well as two of their other top hits, ’30’ and ‘Girlfriend.’ If there is one tour that we would want to go to over and over and over again, it would be this one! Hands down!

We can’t wait until they stop by Los Angeles again on their next tour! Check out our full gallery below!

    POPDUST ON RECORD: charlieonnafriday

    [ad_1]

charlieonnafriday is living the dream. Many grow up yearning to be a singer, some even go as far as making music in their garages with their friends…and while he did both of those things, his dream has extended a bit longer than most.

Thanks to his fun-loving, genre-bending tracks, fans quickly became enthralled with charlieonnafriday’s music. Quickly amassing a social media following that most only dream of: 2.9 million TikTok followers alone, where he’s constantly teasing new tunes, or showing viewers a little peek inside his hectic life, or even interacting with fans. And that’s not to mention his 2.5 million monthly Spotify listeners
    or 763k Instagram followers.

charlieonnafriday is one of the examples of how social media can take your life and change it forever…but he’s completely deserving. After spending his high school years making music with his friends in his basement in Seattle, and by 2022, charlieonnafriday had released his debut album,
    OnnaFriday, with Island Records.

What’s refreshing about his sound is that it’s not to be pigeon-holed into one category. charlieonnafriday’s music can span from rap, to pop, to country, without missing a beat. He’s staying authentic to himself by making music that he can relate to. One instance, he mentions, occurs with writing songs for his new album.

During a stint in Nashville, Charlie was not in the mood to write about heartache and breakups. What was resonating with him was having a good time with your friends, and when he overheard the words “Bottle Go Down,” he knew he had a song within him. His new album,
Wild Child, is a summation of his life right now: some fun-loving party anthems, some country influence, and a lot of heavy hitting anthems. You can listen to the album here:

We knew he had the star power, with previous songs like “After Hours” from his debut album going platinum…but his sophomore submission is possibly even better than his first. It’s proof that charlieonnafriday, who has now toured with Tate McRae, Macklemore, and more, has found his stride in the music industry.

For our second episode of Popdust On Record, we spoke to Charlie about Wild Child, his current solo tour, and more! Watch the full episode here:

‘Mind-blowing’ moment: Whale-watching tour spots white shark feeding off Santa Barbara coast

    [ad_1]

A whale-watching tour got the photo opportunity of a lifetime when they spotted a rare white shark feeding from an elephant seal about 30 miles west of Santa Barbara.

The group of about 50 people were aboard the Condor Express, which conducts whale watching tours daily through the Santa Barbara Channel, according to Capt. Dave Beezer, who has been working for the company for nearly 20 years.

On Aug. 30, the group spotted the floating carcass of a dead elephant seal about 14 miles off the coast of Gaviota and Beezer knew to stick around in the area, he said. The seal’s head was missing so he thought a predator could be involved. Soon after, a 16-foot adult white shark emerged from the water and started feeding on the carcass.

The Condor Express whale-watching tour near Santa Barbara spotted a white shark feeding on an elephant seal on Aug. 30.

    (Robert Perry / CondorExpressPhotos.com)

“It was digging its jaws into the side of the seal and taking out big chunks and then it would go out of sight,” he said.

White sharks, sometimes called great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias), are the species featured in the 1975 classic film “Jaws.” The northeastern Pacific white shark population is on the rise and not at risk of becoming endangered in U.S. waters, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The shark circled the boat and surfaced about four or five times to take a bite out of the seal. Robert Perry, who has been photographing the ocean since the late 1960s, was also onboard, acting as the Condor Express’ staff photographer. The only time he’s ever taken photos of white sharks was when they were swimming around or under a dead whale so they weren’t fully visible.

Perry managed to capture several images of the white shark feeding.

“It was completely mind-blowing and a rare opportunity,” Perry added. “It was the shot of a lifetime.”

Beezer said he’s seen a white shark feed about four or five times in his lifetime. He emphasized the importance of the white shark to the region. Because San Miguel Island serves as a breeding ground for seals, the area has some of the largest seal populations in the world. White sharks keep some of those populations in check, he said.

“It’s not this mindless, killing machine that we should all be terrified of,” he added. “It’s a calculating predator that plays an important role in the ocean ecosystem.”

Joshua Bassett Truly Put On A Show In Los Angeles

    [ad_1]

The Golden Years Tour kicked off in Phoenix, Arizona on July 30th and ended its North American leg on September 3rd in Los Angeles, California and we were there to see it all. Stemming as a promotional tour for his debut album, The Golden Years, Joshua Bassett lit up the stage and brought an insane amount of energy to Los Angeles.

Jay Flores for the Honey Pop

Not only did Joshua sing some of our favorite songs from his new album, he also sang some our favorite songs from his EP, Sad Songs in a Hotel Room and some of his other popular singles. Saying the fans screamed their lungs out when he surprised us with an acoustic version of the song ‘Sad Songs in a Hotel Room’ would be an understatement.

Before each and every song, Joshua gave us a brief introduction and walked us through the thought processes behind his songs. He really made us feel like we were more than just his fans. But don’t get it twisted, for every slow, heart-wrenching song, there was an upbeat dancing song that made us forget it was a Tuesday night. We were dancing like there was no tomorrow with some of his top songs like ‘Secrets’ and ‘Feel Something.’

Halfway through his set, Joshua brought out Jenna Raine to sing their song, ‘Don’t Let Me Down,’ as well as pulling three fans up on stage during ‘Circles’ to line dance with him. Joshua was so happy to be on that stage, and he made it very clear when he talked about how his music not only inspired him to keep going, but hoped that it inspired other people to keep going and not give up on their dreams.

During ‘Different,’ towards the end of his set, Joshua walked through the crowd and gave soooo many fans little handshakes as a small token of gratitude for helping him get to where he is now. It was so touching and sweet, and we were beyond excited to be there, experiencing this moment with everyone else.

Back in August when Joshua first released The Golden Years, we were absolutely taken aback by the songs, and hearing them in person just made the songs that much more connectable. He put on a show of a lifetime in Los Angeles and we would do anything to see it again!

Check out the rest of the gallery from the show! You can still catch Joshua on tour on the European leg of The Golden Years Tour by getting tickets now!

  • 3 Short Stories From Merging Jonas Brothers And Mimi Webb Lyrics Together To Celebrate FIVE ALBUMS. ONE NIGHT.’s Europe Leg

3 Short Stories From Merging Jonas Brothers And Mimi Webb Lyrics Together To Celebrate FIVE ALBUMS. ONE NIGHT.’s Europe Leg

    [ad_1]

The Jonas Brothers have been taking us on a “journey” for a while now. We don’t just mean a musical one, flipping through their discography and piecing it together through cringy side fringes and the dreary notes of turbulent loves. But rather, we’re stealing a word from Nick. He often parrots it in the opening speech for their FIVE ALBUMS. ONE NIGHT. tour, which is as decadent as it sounds. From the three of them—Joe and Kevin, in case we’re having a momentary Wattpad story memory blank—springing up on stage like fabric-printed Powerpuff Girls to taking over the visuals for a kiss cam, there’s not a moment when we’re not chowing down our Rob’s Backstage Popcorn.

Having just finished creating a pleasurable frenzy in Latin America, they’re switching international borders to raise their pinkies for a cup of Joe with the Europe leg. And we’re nowhere near wanting to erase it. Despite their opening act, Mimi Webb’s latest song, ‘Erase You.’ In a universe-realigning moment, as she was supposed to sing during their Royal Albert Hall gig, she took to TikTok in June. She was a flailing mess just like us to ‘S.O.S.’ We’re still looking for help because we have no idea how to survive their glorious team-up!

    Short Stories

But we do have some of an idea, at least, like a pinching our two fingers slightly together semblance. Why not mosaic their lyrics together to create a short story? Whether it’s stealing a line from one of their verses to match something else hidden in the latter or playing with the themes of their songs. We’ll string together a stanza-filled short story from two of them. Then, since we’re already manifesting a duet, we’ll extend the idea of fleshing the short story into an entire mashup they can perform in Europe.

“I got vacation eyes / But I keep on runnin’ through these red flags.”

As stated, the Jonas Brothers claimed red as their favorite color in the early 2000s (not to be confused with taking a trip to another year one gets upon adding an extra thousand), but it’s also Mimi’s! If we were to look into her ‘Vacation Eyes,’ we’d probably see a collective string of ‘Red Flags.’ What’d be interesting about this mashup is that it delves into the relationship scarries we have around love bombing, the elusive honeymoon phase before we discover that they’re a narcissist. We’re quick to say “bye-bye.”

“I’m slippin’ into the lava / And I’ma try to keep from goin under / If somеbody goes and calls the brigade / I’ll alrеady be too far away.”

One has the classic hip-swaying drum riff amid ‘Burnin’ Up’ for their crush, while the other uses the same fire element to turn their cheating ex’s ‘House On Fire.’ So, if we had to bet on the ideal mashup, we’re looking at these two respective hits! Then, notably, Mimi’s adlibs are added to classic lines like “You’re cold” for Joe’s “I’m hot” to showcase that there might still be some hidden feelings in a toxic cyclone. And it’s bound to be a crowd-pleaser.

“Cold feet turned into cold weather / We had love, now it don’t matter / But every time the lights go out / I see you there when you’re not around.”

Isn’t it funny to think that the Jonas Brothers literally sat as a poltergeist on our shoulders at one point? They continued to remind us that they had all split up and we would never have them in the same room performing again. Yeah, that didn’t age well! And we’re glad it didn’t. Because if it had, we wouldn’t have gotten Happiness Begins. It’s obviously where our own joy skyrocketed because it meant looping ‘Used To Be’ for hours. Then Mimi threw on a baby blue, feathery frock and stood on an elegant balcony. And we realized even more that the ‘Ghost Of You,’ whether ex-loves, friends, or even fill in relative terms here __ were better left in the past!

The Jonas Brothers may be late to the party (the Europe leg of the tour was initially slated for May), but they’ll never forget the scratching vocals centered around “Red dress.” Every prolonged ‘s’ riffing between Joe and Nick marks a celebration of the venues being decked in nostalgic merch tees, copycat looks from iconic callbacks, and dresses dipped in all shades of maroon. As stated by Live Nation in the banner below, the Europe leg will kick off in Manchester next Thursday. It’ll wrap up in London on the 17th. Already have your fingers wrapped around a ticket? Shout at us on our social media, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, over which show you’re going to. Then, play the game of match by finding someone else with the same ticket type you have.

Exclusive Interview and Review: We Had One More Chat with Only The Poets, On Their One More Night Tour!

    [ad_1]

If you’ve been around for a hot second, you know our love for indie-rock giants Only The Poets. It has been an incredible few years for this exploding Reading UK band, from supporting so many incredible artists on tour, to massive EP releases, festivals, a monumental record label signing, and international headline tours. It’s been a priviledge to watch this generationally-talented band achieve their dreams, while staying true to themselves and their fans. Whether it’s an EP review, a single celebration, or just a general feral fangirling moment, we will always ‘JUMP!’ at the chance to show Only The Poets some THP love! And if you think we were excited to attend their One More Night Tour concert in Manchester, you know we broke our legs running to interview OTP before the gig!

We popped along to Gorilla Manchester to chat to frontman Tommy Longhurst, and as we settled in at the venue’s upstairs bar, Tommy’s black and silver in-ear monitors still hanging around his neck, the feeling of OTP family has never been more felt. You know how some people just have a way of making others feel at ease? Yeah, that’s Only The Poets. This was a bucket list interview for The Honey POP! We’d love to take the opportunity to thank the OTP team, and especially to Tommy Longhurst for such a heartwarming and open chat. With all that being said, check out our interview with Only The Poets’ Tommy Longhurst below, as we talked all things touring, One More Night and better on the internet EP’s, bowling skills (or lack of), mental health advocacy, fan appreciation, and what’s next for the future of Only The Poets!

Stream One More Night – Deluxe, now!

Welcome to The Honey POP Tommy! We know you’ve just got back from Reading Festival and you have a packed day with soundchecks and a record signing before tonight’s show. We appreciate you sitting down with us to answer all of our burning questions!
You’re absolutely welcome! All good mate, all good!

The final leg of the One More Night Tour is underway and it’s the end of this era, as you’ve been saying on your socials! What’s it meant to you and what have been your highlights so far?
Wow, well firstly it’s definitely felt like the most special tour we’ve ever done. I think, with some of the venues we’ve played and I think we took a step up with like, the production, you know with the lights and everything. It’s an era that we’re really proud of and we’re very very excited about what’s to come. But yeah, I think, we’ll look back very fondly and miss this One More Night era. Because what I loved about this whole thing was when we decided to name the EP One More Night, that song is actually about looking back on time, at fond memories and being full of nostalgia, so it’s actually ended up becoming quite a full circle thing where like, actually, we will look back on this era very fondly, and it kinda represents what that song was about conceptually. It fell into place very naturally which is kind of why we thought it’d be good to name the tour after it. So yeah, it’s been a blast, it’s been an absolute blast. We’re very excited about tonight. We always have great shows in Manchester, and it’s sold out, so we’re very excited!

We’re gonna miss this era too!
    Awwwww!

One More Night is one of the best bodies of work we’ve heard in a long time, we’re obsessed with it, it’s impeccable. Which is your favourite song to perform?
Hmmm, ‘All The Time?’ Probably? We actually haven’t… we actually didn’t play it on all of the tour. We’ve just started playing it for these UK shows and it’s been a breath of fresh air and I love it! And I think it’ll be a main stay for a while ‘cos it just feels quite unique and we don’t really have anything like it. And what’s been great about all those songs is like, at one point it [favorite song to play] was ‘One More Night,’ at one point it was ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend, and at one point it was ‘It’s Okay (Not To Be Okay),’ so it keeps changing, which is nice. Thank you for saying you love it!

It’s absolutely stunning! What about to listen to? What’s your fave to listen to, and do you listen to your own music?
I think… I do, but when something’s out there, because we’re constantly listening to things we’ve written recently and we have to critique it when we’re doing mix notes and actually being in the studio, you hear the song for 10 hours straight *giggles*, so it can start becoming a bit mind-numbing. But certainly when it goes on Spotify, I’ll have a few blasts in my car and it’s a really proud moment. You know, every time you release something into the world it’s terrifying but equally exciting. So yeah, I do listen occassionally!

What’s your fave to listen to when you do?
From the One More Night era? [THP: Yes, or any!] Ooh! I love ‘Crash!,’ always have done. It’s just a real… I think it’s underrated. I think it got slept on a bit! Not by the fans, the fans loved it. I mean, I think it’s just a really special tune that I love to play as well. [THP: “So justice for ‘Crash!’?] Yeah! And I’d say for the One More Night era, ‘One More Night’ the song feels like a real moment in the set and obviously naming the tour after it, yeah that feels special in it’s own right as well.

You just surprise dropped the Deluxe EP of One More Night! In fact, we planned these questions and had to come back and change it up because of the surprise drop! [Tommy: hahahaha, sorry! THP: Don’t be, we couldn’t think of a nicer reason to change the questions!]. The Deluxe EP features the previous vinyl exclusive ‘Black and Blue’ – a beautiful way to round off this era, and it’s bold to assume we can all handle an acoustic right now. What’s the story with ‘Black and Blue?
It’s all about kind of like, the feeling of moving on feeling so alien to you, because you’re so hurt by a previous relationship. I think it’s almost that idea that they probably think you’re doing okay but you’re not. It’s a real honest one, basically talking about how moving on isn’t easy. And the beautiful thing about music is it doesn’t necessarily need to be a romantic song. It’s all just about the breakdown of a relationship, like a lot of our songs are, navigating your way through love and loss and things like that. So yeah, I just think that reaction, the reaction of doing it on this whole run just made us think “we should give the fans this!” Because obviously everyone getting the physical product is amazing, and we wanted to give you a little nugget of something that’s a bit of a surprise and a bit of an exclusive, but it felt right to put that on [The Deluxe EP]. And obviously ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend – Acoustic’ is very different to the original song, so we sort of flipped it on its head. And ‘Gone By Now’ as well, fan favorite, we all love that tune, it worked really well acoustically, so we just wanted to give everyone a few more tunes before we cap of this end of an era.

You’re about to soundcheck with fans, and you’re doing games with those fans too, before tonight’s show. That to us just sums up the relationship you have with your fans. [Tommy: Yeah, it’s fun man!] As a fan owned and run publication, we strongly believe in the power of fans and clearly so does Only The Poets. What do your fans mean to you?
Oh, they are the absolute sole reason why we get to do this. So, just constantly reminding them of that and just, I mean people talk to me, people who aren’t in music, they’re like “oh you’re so engaged with your fans,” and we’re like, but that’s how… we know no different! Like, for us, that’s what we absolutely want to do, show our appreciation. Because without them, there is no Only The Poets. You know, what the fans always say is “Oh you’ve really helped us,” but like, what a lot of them probably don’t realise is they actually have helped us way more. The power of music and bringing us all together is beautiful. All we want to do is keep this family building and let’s hope we can do it. Yeah, you know, we just have a really special relationship and we wouldn’t change it for the world. We think more people should be like this. Because I do think some people kind of forget that at times, like, we will never do that. And also, all of the artists we’ve supported have shown the same level of appreciation. It feels like there’s a running theme there, people that are successful but have this real honest relationship with their fan base. We think that’s really great.

They are the absolute sole reason why we get to do this. […] Without them, there is no Only The Poets. You know, what the fans always say is “Oh you’ve really helped us,” but like, what a lot of them probably don’t realise is they actually have helped us way more.

Tommy Longhurst on what Only The Poets’ fans mean to them

And to a degree, there’s also some shared fans between you and those artists too? Fans gravitate to artists and people who have that talent but also put out that energy and mutual respect.
Totally! Like, Louis Tomlinson was in one of the biggest boy bands in the world, and is SO greatful to his fans. We just did some shows with Dom (YungBlud), and it’s just the same level of appreciation. You know, it’s not why we do it but it’s just interesting isn’t it, that you can see that and go “Ahh that’s part of your success is looking after the people and remembering who got you where you are.” [THP: And fans always remember that appreciation too, we hold that close. Tommy: Yeah, totally!]

Our One More Night bias is ‘It’s Okay (Not To Be Okay)’ which is rooted in a topic you’ve always been very open about discussing in your music, which is mental health. Why does it matter to Only The Poets to put that into the world?
I think just, there was a phase when I was writing songs and I was having a bit of a bad time, and I like, kinda of was scared to be that open and honest in my songwriting. And we released ‘Waking In The Dark,’ which was a good while ago now, which is a similar kind of concept to that song. That moment and the way people took that song and told us that it was helping them, certainly suddenly I was like “this is how I need to be now, just be honest.” Because I’m an emotional guy, we all are, and we think like, we have a platform as artists to raise awareness for really important things. I think music is therapy to a lot of us. And songwriting for me, I was going through a rough time in that period, and I was like “I’m gonna write a song that I think people need to hear and want to hear.” It’s such a powerful moment in the set now, and I think it’s one of the proudest I’ve been of a tune. We always joke that ‘It’s Okay (Not To Be Okay)’ is the evolution to ‘Waking In The Dark.’ I think ‘Waking In The Dark’ is beautiful and I love it, but like, with ‘It’s Okay,’ we call it ‘Waking In The Dark’s’ big brother!

What relationship is it to ‘No More Lonely’ then?
Oooh I don’t know about that, that’s going way back!

You just dropped the better on the internet EP, which really feels like a gift between the fans and you. [Tommy: That’s exactly what it was!] What’s the story with this EP and were any of them debated to go on the One More Night EP?
Yes! They were! What it was, I can’t say too much because I want to keep it all a surprise, but we all sat down and were like, we want to do things differently moving forward, like sonically, musically, lyrically and everything. And we were like, we have all of these great songs, there was like 50 of them on a hard drive, and Marcus and Clem have worked on loads of them. So us and our manager were like, to cap this era off let’s just give the fans four songs out of nowhere. Everyone went crazy which we knew would happen! I loved it because we’ve never done a release like that. Just seeing the reaction. Those four songs were top of the list and I’m so glad that we did it, because we’re playing some of them now. We did Reading Festival yesterday and played it, and they feel like a bit of a step up, even these four. So we’re really striving to bigger and better things now. It just felt like they deserved to be out there!

Stream better on the internet, here, right now. Go!

Okay, so with Better On The Internet already feeling like a step up, is this EP maybe a hint of things to come?
Actually…. no, not really! Hahahahahaha! That’s the beautiful and interesting thing. And you probably thought I was about to go “Yeah!” but actually no! There’s a bit of an evolution there already, and maybe there’s dribs and drabs of it but certainly, it is about capping off this era. There’s some tunes in there, like ‘Indigo’ could have really lived on that body of work [One More Night EP], it’s like an indie tune. I love those four songs a lot and the reaction’s been amazing.

You’ve alluded quite excitingly (and stressfully), to the fact that things are about to change. Without saying anything you shouldn’t, please keep any secrets you need to keep… but what can you tell us about what’s next to come for Only The Poets?
We’re just thinking bigger! We’re thinking just, trying to not put us in any genre boxes. We’re being way more open with our songwriting and the production, and the shows are gonna be different. We just wanna like switch things up, is what i’m gonna say. And I’m really bad at giving things away, so I’m gonna have to stop talking! I’ll trip over myself!

    Show Time!

After our goodbyes and the obligatory selfie and hug, came show time! And what a show it was! Opening support act, scottish singer-songwriter Kerr Mercer brought all of the feels with his delectably rich vocals and moody reflective lyrics. We were also treated to a surprising cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please, Please, Please,’ which got the crowd belting the chrous (in several interesting pitches…). A well needed and placed vocal warm-up prior to screaming along to OTP’s set! Mercer owned his opening-spot as a rising star, and with upcoming music releases planned, we’re excited to see what this young talent does next, including his headline gig in Manchester, in October!

Then came the main event, and as the red lights filled the stage and air as Only The Poets took to the stage, the vocalised support of their dedicated crowd roarered and ripped through the room. In fact, if this gig was a recipe, its ingredients would just say “Red Bull, tears and gravel.” The energy and emotion of Only The Poets’ music and lyrics, coupled with the concert production, insane instrumental talents of Marcus, Clem, Andrew (Roo), and Tommy, and their rock-fuelled vocals, had us jumping in the air and falling to our knees. A fitting reaction to what Tommy would later call “one of our favourite headline shows ever!”

The Honey POP! on Only The Poets’ One More Night Tour, Manchester UK

Highlights of the night included the straight-out-of-the-gates opening ceiling raiser ‘Crash,’ which set the energy level for the entire night; and the stripped-back and sob-inducing ‘Black and Blue’ which saw Tommy and Clem leave the stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar, a microphone, and a dream; and join fans on the GA floor for a stunning performance surrounded by the love and warmth of fans and the star-freckled glow of their torches. An instrumental interval before our beloved ‘Even Hell’ saw Marcus, Roo and Clem shine with their respective instuments as they jammed around Marcus’ drumkit for a shining moment of their collective foundation of OTP’s sound. ‘All This Time’ delivered tenfold as a previously discussed “breath of fresh air,” and the sold-out audience matched Tommy’s vocal as if years of school assemblies had finally come into use!

Our first live experience of One More Night‘s title track left no question mark over the merit of this song’s position and weight on the EP, with it’s euphoric live sound and mirroring of our feelings of never wanting the night to end. Our own personal bias, ‘It’s Okay (Not To Be Okay)’ made certain there wasn’t a dry eye at THP or across the venue, and gave us everything we hoped for from this emotional reset of a tune.

Through every up-tempo number, Tommy’s hip-action left nothing behind as he bopped around the stage like Manager Sam had put new batteries in him. These weren’t the only times Tommy left fans squealing though – as previously alluded to during our chat, OTP sent fans into a tail spin as they shared that future new music was going to “flip Only The Poets on it’s f**king head,” which ensured the entire room lost its final collective braincell.

The last song before the encore served as instruction, as the crowd moved as one for the crescendo of the bouncy sweat-dripping demands of ‘JUMP!’ And of course, our babies ‘Ceasefire’ with its swaying twinkle of crowd torches, and ‘Emotional’ with its nostalgia, mosh pit and euphoria; ended our night in the perfect flavour of Only The Poets. An incredible night of OTP family unity came to an end as fans filed out of Gorilla Manchester with smiles, memories and ringing ears. Chants of “One More Night,” declared that the love and pride in Only The Poets is only going from strength to strength. We’ve been to many an Only The Poets gig, and we couldn’t agree more with the band, as we close this coverage of the One More Night tour and interview… it was our favourite OTP headline show ever too, and this certainly is… “Errr, family?”

Worried you’re going to miss them too much? You can still score tickets for One More Night in Bratislava, or tickets for the One More Fright Halloween show, in Rotterdam on October 30th!

Exclusive Interview: Amy Shark Is Here To Indulge Your Sunday Sadness

    [ad_1]

The rumors are true, we haven’t stopped listening to Amy Shark’s new album Sunday Sadness since our first listen-through. From songs like ‘Can I Shower At Yours,’ to ‘I’m Sorry,’ we are simply hooked. We were lucky enough to chat with Amy Shark about the in’s and out’s of this record, as well as her time coaching The Voice, her past work, and more! Let’s jump in!

    Listen to Sunday Sadness here!

Hi Amy! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us! To start us off, if someone was diving into your music for the first time, how would you describe your sound?
I think I would describe it as honest, gritty, indie pop.

‘My Only Friend’ has just come out! What can you tell us about working with Tom DeLonge and how that partnership came about?
The whole blink collaboration was never a part of the plan. They just happen to be my favourite band but I never in a million years did I think that I would be able to do a song with even one of them let alone all of them. Tom was the hardest to lockdown just because he’s so busy with other commitments, movies, aliens, etc but after I sent him the song he made it very easy. He loved the verse I wrote and he tracked his vocals in San Diego and sent them over to me. I worked on it with my producer and the rest is history. It’s one of the coolest songs I have in my entire catalog.

Upon listening to ‘My Only Friend’ we thought back to a track you released last month ‘Two Friends,’ to us, it seemed like ‘My Only Friend’ was ‘Two Friends’ softer counterpart, is there an intentional string between the two?
I feel like I have unintentionally written an album about two friends haha. Every song can kinda hold hands with the next. It’s kinda cool.

As we are writing these questions Sunday Sadness comes out in twenty days, how are you feeling? What are the emotions leading up to your first album release since 2021?
I’m quietly confident, but I’m still a little nervous. I really want people to love it as much as I do. But then again, it is my third album so by this time I really know what my fans love. They’re going to love this album and hopefully, it’s good enough to grab more Amy Shark fans along the way.

When talking about Sunday Sadness you said that this record was specifically written on Sundays, what do you think it is about Sundays that allows you to create so freely? And when did you realize that a creative pattern was forming?
There was one specific Sunday where I was finishing a song, it was the last song on the album ‘Our Time Together.’ It’s a pretty emotional song full of memories. I think that’s when I realized that Sundays have always been the emotional day that I can’t escape. Even when I try and work on a Sunday by finishing songs the songs end up emotional.

We were lucky enough to be able to listen to Sunday Sadness a bit early to prep for this interview, and it’s incredible. What really struck us is the range of emotions that the listener is taken through with these tracks, it really feels like getting an inside look at your diary. With that range in mind, are there two lyrics on the record that you think perfectly represent two opposite ends of the emotional spectrum?
Yeah, totally! I’m so glad you picked that up. I love the very opening line to the record in ‘Slide Down The Wall’,“ doesn’t matter what I do. I always get emotional with you”. But then you hear the line “tell everyone you’re dead to me” in the song ‘Gone’ and I love how this album feels like a series of mini-movies! So many ups and downs but a lot of love throughout.

For us, eleven tracks is such a sweet spot for an album, but we know that the number of songs that could have been on the record was probably a much higher number, was there a song that you wrote during the process of making Sunday Sadness, but that didn’t make the album that you hope still sees the light of day in some capacity?
Yes, this always happens to me. It’s very sad. But it’s like sport. Only the strongest get picked for the team, unfortunately. But it doesn’t mean I don’t care about those on the bench.

We know that crafting an album takes a village, and there are so many thank you’s that could be said to the people involved, but something that is often hard for people to do is to pat themselves on the back. What is something that you accomplished during the process of crafting Sunday Sadness that you are proud of yourself for?
I explored every single avenue for every single song on this record. I wasn’t lazy. I worked really hard to make sure every song could stand strong on its own. Even if I had to heavily compromise or lose a guitar riff that I was attached to. I did everything I could to make this album as strong as I believe it is. I’m proud of that.

We have to take a minute to ask about Australian Idol, was there a piece of advice that you were able to give a constant on that show that you wish someone would have given you when you were starting out?
Music isn’t a sport, no one can tap you on the shoulder and tell you to retire because you’re not strong enough or fast enough. You can keep making art all day every day for the rest of your life! There’s no age to making music. So just because it’s a ‘no’ today. Just get up and get after it again tomorrow.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what is the rest of 2024 shaping up to look like for you once the record is out?
I plan on promoting this album to every part of the world!

Exclusive Interview: Andrew McMahon Talks All Things Something Corporate Comeback And More!

If you’re anything like us, then the name Andrew McMahon is a staple when you think of the music that has soundtracked your life. From Something Corporate to Jack’s Mannequin to Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Andrew has quite the discography in his back pocket. We were lucky enough to get to chat with Andrew all about Something Corporate reuniting, releasing ‘Death Grip,’ and now ‘Happy,’ as well as going on tour!

    Stream ‘Happy’ now!

Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today! To start us off, how would you sum up who you are as an artist to anyone who is going to dive into your music for the first time?
First and foremost, I’m a lyric-focused songwriter. I’m trying to tell stories with my songs and to tackle the conflicts and questions that arise in my daily life. I get a lot of joy from experimenting with sounds in a studio setting. While there is a pretty clear, pop-minded approach to my writing, you’ll hopefully identify a diverse palate of sounds and arrangements throughout my recordings.

You’ve been a part of so many projects over the course of your career (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). How has your creative process changed as you move between projects?
I think my process has become a lot more collaborative. The more time you spend making things, the easier it is to articulate what you want and the more fun it is to translate everyone’s ideas into the work.  I’m far less obsessed with the outcome these days and so much more interested in digging deep with collaborators and going on an adventure in the studio and on the stage.

Something Corporate is officially back! What made you want to reach out to your old bandmates and get the ball rolling working together again?
I had the band out for a surprise set during my birthday show a couple of years back, and the vibe was so good we decided to get back together properly for the When We Were Young fest. There was such a beautiful energy at those shows and, for the five of us, there was palpable joy being back in practice and hanging out in dressing rooms and laughing together. The shows were such a pure connection between us as band members and the audiences we were playing for that we decided to book more and keep the party rolling.

Working with Something Corporate this time around comes about a bit differently, as you’re working as Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. What has coming from the mindset of the art you’ve been making brought to working with the band again?
Working with other projects has made me a better collaborator and it’s given me a real appreciation of the unique chemistry of Something Corporate. There is something magical about the bond we share, having grown up learning to play music together as kids. I am able to fully appreciate and celebrate the rarity of that connection now and it’s made this reunion a really peaceful and joyful moment in my life and I think the other guys’ as well.

‘Death Grip’ is the first single back! Were there other songs that were completed that you chose between to get to this track? What was it about this track that made you guys want it to be your comeback?
‘Death Grip‘ happened really organically. I wrote it in Nashville a month or two before we left for tour. I loved the song and wanted it out into the world. The decision wasn’t made through the lens of this is your comeback track. It was made out of love for the song and the band being excited to be back in the studio together. The song itself is about letting go, receiving life as it comes, and giving back what the universe gives to you. It gave us this song, and we gave it back.

Upon crafting ‘Death Grip’ could you automatically tell what you wanted the live performance of that song to look like?
Not necessarily. I think the biggest shift for me post-Something Corporate has been letting the music evolve in the studio first and then crafting the show separately. ‘Death Grip‘ was very much created through that process. Hence, the Wilderness/SoCo Collab. The production of the next single that’s coming out was approached a little more like a traditional Something Corporate song, and on that one, we will flip the collaboration order to SoCo/Wilderness to reflect that.

You guys just kicked off the Out Of Office Tour. What can fans expect from these shows? Are we going to be getting unreleased music played?
The show itself has a beautiful production incorporating video that weaves in moments from the early days and I think does a beautiful job of connecting fans to the band’s history while creating beautiful new memories to hang on to once you leave. The nearly two-hour set manages to cover the majority of our catalog with some deep cuts from night to night. We also have two new songs that will be out by the time we get to the second leg of the tour, and we will be throwing one of those in per night going forward. We’re really proud of both of them.

The Out Of Office Tour isn’t a typical tour since you’ve said that you’re all having to work around your current jobs. What’s been the hardest and most rewarding parts of touring now compared to back when you only had to focus on SoCo?
Honestly, I’ve been hoping to reimagine the way I live, work, and tour for some time now. The way we structured these dates has afforded me and the band the opportunity to play for lots of fans and have incredible weekends together while still making it home to take care of our families and the careers we’ve built since moving on from Something Corporate in ‘05. The other guys would be able to speak more to the challenges, I’m sure, as some of them are definitely juggling work fields outside of music.

Let’s talk about your partnership with Big Loud Rock! How did that come about? And how has that unfolded for you thus far?
The truth is I’m pretty cagey when it comes to record deals these days. After Tilt came out, I was pretty hell-bent on stepping back from music for a bit and seeing where the wind blew. The day I wrote ‘Death Grip’ I was so excited by it. I started sending music around, and the Big Loud guys were so genuinely stoked about the song and the potential of releasing more that they made me a really fair deal based on mutual trust, and the rest is history. It’s early still but working with them has been a breath of fresh air. So many labels these days simply obsess over data and TikTok and make all their decisions based on fear. These guys love music and building artful campaigns around their releases. It has really been a joy to work with them.

The Holiday From Real cruise kicks off this fall! Obviously, we and all the other fans are so excited. But what aspects are you most excited about?
Playing shows with all of my favorite musicians and friends on a single weekend is going to be incredible. I know people look at these projects as separate entities, and, in many ways, they are, but for me, it’s my life and my music. Bringing that all together in one place, especially a vacation setting, just feels right to me.

Now that the single is out and the tour is underway, what does the rest of 2024 look like for you? What can fans expect?
We’ll be dropping our next single, ‘Happy,’ on July 26, and I have high hopes for that song. It’s about to get busy with more regular shows and lots of travel, but I’m ready for it. We built this show to celebrate the magic that found me and my bandmates in my parent’s garage back in 1998 and the beautiful years of music that followed. I just want people to feel alive at these shows, to use this music as a time machine and make contact with the moments in their lives when this music was the soundtrack. Most importantly, I want fans to walk away with a new formative memory of all of us doing what we love most. Giving ourselves over completely to music for a couple of hours and singing these songs together. I want it to be visceral.

Exclusive Interview: Greyson Chance Talks All Things ‘Haymaker,’ and What’s Next!

    [ad_1]

It’s no secret at this point, we are huge Greysons Chance fans, and have been for years, so this is a pretty huge moment for us! We got to pick Greyson’s brain about his latest releases, and about what’s next, as well as about his relationship with his fans and about displaying vulnerability in his music. We are still processing getting to have this conversation! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

    Stream ‘Haymaker’ here!

Hi Greyson! Thank so you much for taking the time to talk with us today! To start us off, how would you describe who you are as an artist to someone who is just tuning in for the first time?

Oh that’s rather hard isn’t it? Ever so often I have to tell my story in full, starting from the YouTube video to where I am now; and the whole thing really does read out like a movie. It’s a bizarre story. But if someone is truly tuning in for the first time, I would say my career started with me singing at the piano. And now 14-years-later, I’m still singing at the piano.

‘Rearview Mirror’ marked the start of this next musical journey you’re on, what was it about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made you want it to be the first introduction to this new era?

There was something very classic about ‘Rearview Mirror’ that made me want to make it the lead. I am always chasing that feeling of nostalgia everyday I go into the studio, to make things that feel bigger than me and to make things that will stand the test of time. From the jump, ‘Rearview Mirror’ felt that way, and I didn’t second-guess it.

‘Haymaker’ is the track following ‘Rearview Mirror’ and you’ve said the track was born out of a place of conflict within your family, what was it like to be able to work that out through music? Was writing the healing process, or had that already come and writing was the result of the healing?

I’ve gone through a lot in my life, but nothing quite stings like the emotions of family conflict, and for three years, I watched my family crumble before my own eyes. It was awful. Writing was certainly the healing process for me, and it’s been that way since I started writing songs. I told my cowriter Sam Harris the day we wrote ‘Haymaker’ that a thousand pounds were lifted off of my shoulders once those words hit the page.

You’ve always been very personal with your music, with your songs chaptering parts of your life. Can you pinpoint something that you were hesitant to put to music, but ended up in a song that you released and got to see it resonate with people?

I was very hesitant to release ‘Haymaker,’ because it is my real life. I haven’t really spoken to my brother in a few years, so ‘Haymaker’ is this an encapsulation of everything I would say to him if I had the chance. So for these lyrics to be the first words he hears from me? Yeah, that shit’s raw, it’s ugly, it’s nuanced, but it’s necessary. Good art comes from vulnerability, I’ve always believed that.

Palladium was the last record, what is something that you learned during that album rollout/creative process that you’ve taken with you into creating the next project?

I learned through Palladium that I am an album artist, and I always will be. I want to world build, I want my music and my visuals to paint a scene for the listener, to bring them to a place that feels disconnected from their own reality. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that the world needs to be complex, it just needs to be purposeful.

You’ve been in the industry for a long time, and because of that, you’ve had fans that have been around for a decade+ going to shows and supporting the music, what has having the support that’s allowed for breaks (like going to college and stepping away from music) while aways sticking around meant?

When I tell you I am the luckiest artist, you have no idea. My fans know my life, they know what I’ve been through, they know that I’ve suffered a lot, both mentally and physically since I was kid … they keep me upright. Think of someone you’ve known for 14-years of your life? That’s the type of relationship I have with my fans. I don’t feel a pressure to make music for them, if anything I feel a pressure to be healthy and happy for them, because I know that is what they want for me more than anything. My relationship with them is the coolest thing I get to experience in my life.

We know that crafting any form of art takes a village and it is often easier to thank the other people involved and harder to pat yourself on the back, but what is something you’ve been really proud of yourself for during the process of crafting ’Rearview Mirror’/’Haymaker?’

I am proud of myself for pushing forward and continuing on no matter the adversity I’ve gone through. Music is a cutthroat industry, and it’s full of rejection. But the older I get, the more I realize the power in just surviving, waking up everyday and focusing in on the silver lining. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, and that feels like a huge accomplishment.

When you look back at your discography is there a song for you that you have recently felt reconnected to? Maybe a track that you hadn’t revisited in a while and realized it still hits as hard as when you made it?

Boots, a song I released as a stand alone single around four years ago. “I’ve been western before all of these punks,” hits way hard in 2024. Don’t get me started on these fake cowboys out here right now.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we finish out 2024? What’s on the horizon?

I’ve been working on this record for the past year and a half, and ‘Rearview Mirror’ and ‘Haymaker’ are just the first two songs; I’m ready to show everyone the full world. So I guess to answer your question … more music, and a lot of shows. That’s what is on my horizon.

Genre-blurring country music artist Kane Brown took his “In The Air Tour” to the heights of Raleigh’s PNC Arena Friday night as he made a dramatic entrance from a suspended platform high above the stage.

The entrance seemed symbolic as Brown continues to reach new heights in country music. He has racked up a slew of singles and albums that have hit the top of the country charts, including the song “What Ifs” (with Lauren Alaina), “I Can Feel It,” “Lose It” and “Good as You.”

The award-winning Georgia native built his career while opening for major country acts Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line. Today, he’s touring at big city arenas with stops planned at five stadiums. Publicity materials note he made history in 2023 by being the first Black artist to sell out Boston’s Fenway Park in the venue’s history.

Singer Tyler Hubbard and N.C.’s own Parmalee opened Friday’s show.

Here are photos from the concert.

  • A New Bucktown Cocktail Bar Makes Magical Malort Shots and More

A New Bucktown Cocktail Bar Makes Magical Malort Shots and More

    [ad_1]

Authentic dive bars, not merely the spaces that have adopted the aesthetic — those pretenders are filled with vintage neon signs and serve marked-up cans of domestic beer — are plentiful in Chicago. There’s a dedicated cohort of independent tavern owners who take pride in keeping these shot and beer spots alive.

On the other hand, the city’s cocktail bars have been dominated by larger hospitality groups. While customers can see semblances of DIY culture in many of those bars, some can be more glitz than substance. In recent times, Chicago’s bar scene has experienced a revolution, with taverns like Lemon and West Town and Moonflower in Portage Park showing drinkers that not all independents need to have sticky floors like a dive.

A case in point is Truce, an intimate drinking den that debuted before Memorial Day at 1935 N. Damen Avenue in Bucktown. The opening was pushed back a few times, but the final product is worth it. Stepping into the narrow space along Damen Avenue visitors will find a unique warmth rarely seen at a bar open for only a few weeks. The staff is friendly, the menu offers many options without feeling like a dense atlas, and nothing feels out of place — including the customers; there’s a welcoming and accepting vibe.

Two couples run and own the spot: David Mor and Matthew Hunnel, plus Rami Ezzat and Sarah Kmiec. Their hospitality experience runs the gamut, including from Robert et Fils, Bavette’s, and Cindy’s.

Mor is behind the drink list. He’s associated with Zubair Mohajir, the chef behind the casual Lilac Tiger and the Indian tasting menu restaurant the Coach House, both in Wicker Park. Mor is also a partner in Mohajir’s upcoming Mexican-Indian restaurant, Mirra — opening this summer around the corner from Truce. He’s using Mohajir’s masala chai recipe in his triple chai daiquiri, a viscous concoction made with Mount Gay rum. Mor put serious thought to the fancy drinks on the menu, but his bartenders quietly suggest more folks drink the simple strawberry vermouth and sparkling water. Truce celebrates various cocktail cultures, including Chicago’s. That explains a shot — RBF, which is made with cacao, Aperol, lemon, and Jeppson’s Malört. For folks who stay away from the famously bitter spirit, RBF does the unthinkable — it delivers a bright and sweet flavor while retaining a hint of that famously bitter flavor. Making Malört would strip the spirit of its essence,

Truce is also open in the mornings with coffee from Valparaiso, Indiana-based Yaggy Road Roasting Company. It’s the base for several “latte-like” drinks, which are also available later in the day for folks who don’t want to drink alcohol. There are small bites like bagels and overnight oats, too.

Walk through the space below. Truce is now open.

    Truce, 1935 N. Damen Avenue, open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. from Thursday to Monday

    David Mor pours a drink.

Jennifer Lopez Reconnects With BFF Leah Remini Years After Huge Fight Over ‘Selfish’ Ben Affleck: SOURCE – Perez Hilton

    [ad_1]

    Um… silver lining??

It really sounds like the early reports about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck‘s marriage being in trouble were understating it if anything. Recently we’ve heard they aren’t so much on the road to divorce as they’ve already arrived, parked, and checked their coats. A report from Deux U Thursday had a source claiming lawyers were already working hard to finalize it so they could announce. Damn. It sounds like Bennifer 2.0 is already over.

So who does J.Lo turn to in such a devastating time? When the man she thought was her destiny, the love of her life, is leaving her again? How about the one friend who told her not to fall for his BS??

Related: Ben Affleck Wants Jennifer Lopez ‘To Overhaul Her Career’

Big fans may recall back in 2022 there was a report about how Jen was feuding with her BFF Leah Remini over this exact issue. An insider told Radar Online at the time how Leah doesn’t like Ben and advised her bestie not to take him back:

“Leah was there for Jen when Ben broke her heart. Leah knows everything, all the ugly details about what went down between her best friend and Ben. No wonder she doesn’t like him. Jennifer might have been ready to move on and forgive Ben, but Leah hasn’t and is worried it will happen again.”

Well, on Friday a source told Page Six that was 100% the reason J.Lo and Leah haven’t been on speaking terms for two years! They say the King of Queens star blasted Ben “because he is selfish and is not fully committed as a partner.” That caused Jen, who wanted to believe the best, to ice out her girl:

“J.Lo was so mad, she cut off all ties.”

The source says Leah wasn’t even invited to the wedding! So that’s why she wasn’t there! Damn!

Obviously she could have been vindictive, took a victory lap and said, “I told you so.” But according to the insider, she reached out privately to offer her support in this difficult time. Because first and foremost she cares about Jen.

Damn. That really warms the heart.

J.Lo could really use a shoulder and an ear at the moment, too. Not only is she losing her man, she’s taking a big career hit this year, canceling her entire tour after disappointing ticket sales (though some claim it’s for personal reasons). Innerestingly, a LiveNation rep did say J.Lo “is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.” Now we have to wonder if one of the closest friends right now is the one who just had her best interests at heart, even if it meant pissing off her girl.

What do you think of this reconciliation, Perezcious readers? Have YOU ever lost a girlfriend over a guy, only for the guy to go bye-bye this quick? Tell us your stories in the comments!

  • 50 Friendship Bracelet Ideas For Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism Tour’s Asian Leg

50 Friendship Bracelet Ideas For Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism Tour’s Asian Leg

    [ad_1]

Dua Lipa’s idea of a ‘Training Season’ is watching various boys with buzzcuts surround her in a chic cafe. Each flirtatious, animalistic quip sends her closer to finding an exit in the gentleman’s bathroom—do note that she’s the man around here. But in the fan girl world, things are a bit different! The annual World Cup, if you will, is that glorious second when our eyes befall upon our favorites right in front of us. That period between is essentially our “go time.” When someone blows the whistle, aka tickets go on sale, we’re set on doing things swiftly. Whether it’s banners, our outfits, or even, in this case, friendship bracelets, we’ve got it down to the minute. We know exactly how to be so organized that the end product is glorious! It’s just the fan girl way.

So, see Dua Lipa announcing Asian dates for her Radical Optimism Tour as perching the whistle right between her dazzling teeth. The sound that blasts out is the frantic go sign. Never fear, though. We’ll help you! We’ve got a list of 50 ideas, from lyrics on the album to inspired phrases, that’ll look so cute on friendship bracelets. We’ve even helped you one step further by listing various charms and beads accompanying its theme! So you’ll be the disco ball of your concert!

    ‘End Of An Era’

Oceanic blues and shadows of ivory matching a shark’s tail are bound to be your color scheme for these bracelets. But what about pinks? If we’re truly diving into the eras of Dua, then Future Nostalgia should also be showcased here, right? Therefore, these “Sky Aurora Cloud Beads” are perfect! You can also use these confetti-flecked letter beads to spell out the below lyrics and phrases:

    • “The sweetest pleasure”
    • “Makes me an optimist”
    • “Another girl falls in love”
    • “Hopelessly romantic”
    • “In the clouds”
    • (Dua’s Version)
    • Eras of Dua

    ‘Houdini’

What could get more magical than our celestial Queen, who’s most likely on another space road trip, the moon in her rearview? Well, these charms! How about pendants shaped like colorful opaque stars with rims going around them so they look like planets? They’re here! Or we haven’t shaken ourselves out of the childlike excitement of glow-in-the-dark anything! So, of course, we’re obsessed with these star-like globe charms. Why not continue with the theme by using these letters?

    • “Solar eclipse”
    • “Catch me, or I go”
    • Accio Dua

    ‘Training Season’

Sure, the ‘Training Season’ that Dua’s referring to may link to a human dating pool. However, such lyrics about horses relate to her ‘Love Again’ music video. So, obviously, we’re about to run with the animal theme here! We’re thinking of these rocking horse charms, horseshoe pendants, and cowboy hats and boots for the whole cowgirl experience! We’re galloping over and snatching up these acrylic brown letter beads to spell out the below:

    • “Poison that I’m drawn to”
    • “Compass in your nature”
    • “Love feels like a rodeo”
    • “Hits me like an arrow”
    • “Play fair”
    • “Convеrsation overload”
    • Enlisted by Dua

    ‘These Walls’

If ‘These Walls’ surrounding the making of our Dua-inspired friendship bracelets could talk, it would probably wonder just how one could find charms to fit this song. Heh! It doesn’t have us now, does it? Playing on the wall’s personified communication, we could look into mouth-shaped charms such as these! Then continue with the playing of reds not only seen in the lips but also Dua’s top on the ‘These Wall’s visualizer through these letter beads!

    • “Walls could talk”
    • “Go and face your fears”

    ‘Whatcha Doing’

‘Whatcha Doing?’ Continuing to make friendship bracelets, of course. That is until every new friend that we make during Dua’s Asian leg of the Radical Optism Tour’s arms get covered in them. But you probably already knew that and how easily our retort flowed out from that song-titled-laced question! We’re thinking of “Crystal Floral Cross” pendants and snazzy bath ducks with black sunglasses and hats. Is there ever going to be a jazz-inspired ‘Whatcha Doing?’ We need it! Perhaps use these letter beads with Dua’s black and white coat in the visualizer?

    • “Headin’ for collision”
    • “Lost my 20/20 vision”
    • “Control is my religion”

    ‘French Exit’

We have more ideas for you before you make a ‘French Exit’ from this friendship bracelet session! What about these clock charms for where you’re constantly searching for the time? Watching the hands slowly tick by? Or perhaps an Eiffel Tower pendant to bring some French culture to Asia? These perfectly match the iconic blue, white, and red letter beads!

    • “I just can’t relate to the words of this love song”
    • “Everybody’s still dancin’”
    • “Filer à l’anglaise”
    • “Only fix is time”

    ‘Illusion’

There’s absolutely no ‘Illusion’ here! With our help, your friendship bracelets will be the hit of the Radical Optimism Tour. How many have you made thus far? Reckon, is there time for some more before you do the finishing touches on your outfit? We’re thinking of royal flushes with these adorable ace charms for this one. Then, these colorful disco beads are perfect for dancing through a crowd full of red flags! It’s a no-brainer that we’re also using red letter beads.

    • “Miss a red flag”
    • “Lover on a pedestal”
    • “Play your cards right”
    • “Fall for an illusion”
    • “Dance with the illusion”
    • “Dance all night”

    ‘Falling Forever’

We’re ‘Falling Forever’ for Dua. We mean, quite clearly, as we’ve written it down in our inspired phrases to put on our friendship bracelets! But we need to make that love known, you know? Thankfully, there are so many cute love heart charms to choose from. What about these early 2000s-inspired candy heart charms with “Be Mine” written across them? Or spell out Dua’s initials with these colorful hearts with letters engraved inside them? Or, if you’re settling for something simple, these rhinestone hearts are so pretty! We’re genuinely in the mood for love here, so with continuing with the theme, why not splurge on these heart-shaped letter beads, too?

    • “Every flame has to get colder”
    • “Tomorrow and beyond”
    • “Eternity’s impossible to measure”
    • Falling for Dua

    ‘Anything For Love’

We could play off the above theme with ‘Anything For Love,’ as it also deals with love hearts! But we wanted to do something different, so we’re looking at the candy-coated line centered around Danny (most likely British producer and composer Danny L Harle). These glittering sweet packet charms, or perhaps fruit clay reminiscent of rock candy, exist. How about some gummy bears? We’re in love with these acrylic letter beads to finish your bracelet off!

    • “Salted licorice”
    • “Too many options”
    • Anything for Dua

    ‘Maria’

Say your romantic partner hasn’t embraced singlehood forever, so they have a string of exes. Instead of a remake of a bitter country song, Dua sees her lover’s past interests as cupids, those who made him the person she adores today. Therefore, we have an ode to ‘Maria.’ We can play on this with metallic heart-shaped pendants of cupids or even arrow charms! Then, diving into heart-shaped letters once again.

    • “Somewhere in his heart”
    • “Love comes young”
    • “Lovers that make you change”
    • “Time after time”

    ‘Happy For You’

Similarly in tune, ‘Happy For You’ touches on being content with someone who was once dear to you moving on. There are no frowning lines here or resentful eye-rolls. Instead, our faces match these multi-color cartoon smiley face pendants and similar beads! You could even go with something that makes you happy, like flowers or donuts. The options are endless! Then, to match a fiery lyric, we can write it out with flaming red letter beads.

    • “Hot as h*ll”
    • “Everything you deserve”
    • Happy for Dua

    Bonus Round: Asian Leg Themed

What are we missing? Friendship bracelets inspired by the actual place, duh. Of course, we need some for the actual leg of the tour she’s about to go on. Think of this like those tourist shirts sold on street corners where the place follows a massive heart because we love this continent so much. And so does Dua. We also can’t stop raving about the food, so these sushi charms are necessary! As for the color scheme of our letter beads, we’re going with blue. Blue is on the ASEAN member states flag and symbolizes peace and stability.

    • [selected Asian stopover]’s Radical Optimism
    • Tetteitekina rakkan shugi
    • Dualingo [language of your selected Asian stopover. For example, Japanese!]

Dua’s synonymous with “selling out immediately,” so may the odds forever be in your favor of snatching up these tickets! Look below at the various dates, and if one catches your attention, head over to her website for more information. And if you are one of the lucky ones with infinite amounts of Radical Optimism to get you through those stressful hours, glance over the relevant information closer to the date. A plastic baggie, for example, does wonders when carrying your friendship bracelets.
