  • Tamar Braxton Steps In On Wifey Duty With Birdman At VERZUZ In Toni’s Absence: ‘I’ma Hold It Down For Her’

    Tamar Braxton may have just proved to everyone that she is, in fact, her brother-in-law’s keeper as she popped up to support Birdman at the Cash Money/No Limit Records VERZUZ in Las Vegas while Toni Braxton was away.

    On the heels of an explosive episode of The Braxtons in which her sister Towanda accuses her of sleeping with Toni’s men in the past, Tamar decided to take her sister-in-law duties to the max by coming onto the stage during Birdman’s performance and wiping the sweat from his forehead. Well, the internet clearly clocked it as possible fuel for the “sleeping with your sister’s man” fire. However, Tamar claims she was simply holding it down for her big sis.

    “Cause she couldn’t be here and she love her husband so ima hold it down for HER AND MY BROTHER!!! TF!!??,” she said in response to a fan question.

    In recent years, it’s been unclear where Toni and Tamar’s relationship stands because of repeated public conflict between them. As BOSSIP previously reported, Toni wished Tamar “Happy Birthday” via Instagram while claiming she’d been blocked by the “All The Way Home” singer and had no choice but to make a general post. Tamar accused the eldest Braxton sibling of “gaslighting” her and later said she wanted to be “left alone” as she was “not bothering a soul.”

    Nonetheless, the relationship seemed smooth as Birdman and Tamar FaceTimed the “Unbreak My Heart” singer after the show. The trio was all smiles and were properly hyping up the living legend for looking good, as always.

    The internet spent the night backing that thang up to the hits of both Cash Money and No Limit Records in a special VERZUZ performance from ComplexCon in Las Vegas with many fans split on who really took the crown on the night. Noticeably absent was Lil Wayne, who many thought would make a special appearance for the occasion. However, it’s been many years of an apparent fractured relationship between he and Birdman, who he once referred to as his father, and the pair have never really seemed to get things back on track.

  • One Musicfest Showcases the Women of Today’s R&B Sound

    The landscape of R&B music is constantly changing, from the singing-in-the-rain type yearning to self-assured women owning their femininity. There’s a debate on whether real R&B is dead and gone, but as long as there is love, the genre will never cease to exist, even if it sounds a little different. R&B is in good hands, and the women at Saturday’s One Musicfest showcased that.

    The day started with UK girl group FLO, who, as a trio, have been bringing back the essence and power of girl groups. Renée, Jorja, and Stella can easily be compared to girl groups of the past, such as Destiny’s Child, and the influences are certainly there, but the girls have blended their own form of fun and sensual music. They commanded the stage with silky, cohesive harmonies and a synergy only seen from a group that had been friends first. They ran through hits from their EPs and debut studio album, such as “Immature,” Fly Girl,” “Walk Like This,” and their breakout debut single “Cardboard Box.”

    Atlanta native Jai’Len Josey has been steadily building a name for herself in the city she calls home, and it’s not hard with a voice as soulful as hers. With a unique texture and grit to her voice, she serenades whether it’s an intimate crowd like her set at OMF’s Toyota Stage or a concert venue. Josey opened up with a cover of “Need U Bad” by Jazmine Sullivan, her inflections mirroring those of the powerhouse songstress. Backed by Vibe Ktrl, Poetry on Peter’s resident band, she moved into her own songs, “Southern Delicacy,” “New Girl,” and “Willie’s Interlude,” the latter a dedication to her late grandfather. 

    Kehlani rounded out the new age R&B acts for the night. Her confident persona on stage was a testament to her longevity in the music industry, with over a decade of hits complemented by smooth vocals, effortless dance breaks, and a boldness that can’t be taught. Kehlani’s set was one filled with gratitude. The singer-songwriter acknowledged how, even a decade later, her career continues to grow in ways she never imagined, evident by her latest song “Folded,” which has taken over the charts and snared the hearts of listeners and R&B legends such as Brandy, Toni Braxton, and Tank. She began her set with a teaser of the song before moving into hits such as “The Way” featuring Chance the Rapper, “I Hate the Club,” “Can I,” “Nights Like This,” and “After Hours.” She ended the set with “Folded,” but it was more of a collaborative effort. The audience swayed, hugged, and waved their hands as they sang along to every word.

    Toni Braxton Denies Rumor Claiming She Secretly Married Birdman In Mexico: “We Are Both Single”

    Toni Braxton is setting the record straight following rumors that she had secretly tied the knot with Birdman.

    As The Shade Room previously reported, the claim stemmed from a post on X that had spread like wildfire on the social media platform.

    Toni Braxton Didn’t Marry Birdman

    Allegations surfaced that Braxton flew out to Mexico to marry the music mogul, whom she first began dating in 2016.

    But in a post shared to her Instagram on Sunday (December 31), the ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’ singer not only denied the rumor, she also made it known that she and Birdman were both single.

    She shared a screenshot of a side-by-side photo of her and Birdman with a headline that read, “Congratulations! Toni Braxton & Birdman Married In A Private Ceremony In Mexico.”

    The hashtag #FakeNews was added right below. In the accompanying caption, the Grammy winner wrote:

    “My dear friend @birdman and I are not married…never been married. We are both single.”

    Her sister, Tamar, who initially spoke on the rumor in an Instagram Live session on Saturday (December 30), took to the comment section under The Shade Room’s post to add her two cents.

    “My dear friend is wild,” she commented. “And ima mind my business and ride for my sister till the wheels fall of and then we walking or someone to drive us.”

    One day before Toni made her statement, Tamar said she had no idea her sibling had tied the knot after seeing the headlines on X.

    While on her way to Disneyland with her fiancé, Jeremy Robinson, and their kids, she went Live, telling her followers that she even had to call their mother, Evelyn, to verify the news.

    “I can definitely tell she knows something, because I was like, ‘Why you can’t just give me a straight answer? I don’t know,” the singer said.

    But she did express her happiness for the pair, despite her confusion about why her sister had decided to keep her wedding plans from her.

    Toni Braxton And Birdman Dated In The Past

    Back in 2016, Toni and Birdman started dating after their almost two-decades-long friendship evolved into a full-blown relationship,

    Toni, who had previously collaborated with Birdman on the 2002 song ‘Baby You Can Do It,’ opened up about their romance in an episode of ‘Braxton Family Values,’ where she gushed about the sentimental things he had done to show her just how much he loved her.

    “Luckily for me, he likes to do things to show that he cares about me, like sending flowers. I’m a flowers girl, what can I say?” she said, per Essence.  “He’s an undercover gentleman and he makes me feel adored.”

    The R&B icon announced her engagement to Birdman back in February 2017, just one year after they started dating, and released a song together, titled ‘Heart Away.’

    Even though the couple had already put their wedding plans into full effect, Toni hinted at a break-up in a New Year’s Eve post she shared on Instagram that same year, per PEOPLE.

    Her resolution for the new year was to start a new chapter, which “isn’t always an easy choice,” she said, “but ALWAYS choose to be chosen.”
