R&B icon Missy Elliott will be in Orlando for her first-ever headlining tour on Tuesday at the Kia Center. Elliott’s “Out of This World: The Experience Tour” brings out all of her unforgettable earworm beats and rhymes, augmented by the support of musical friends and creative family Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland.
In 2001, Elliott made her name with the seminal album Miss E … So Addictive, featuring singles like “Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man.” “Get Ur Freak On” won multiple awards, including a Grammy and ASCAP awards for Rhythm and Soul and Pop Music.
She repeated the Grammy feat in 2003 with her single “Scream a.k.a. Itchin’.” She appeared in the 2015 Super Bowl with Katy Perry, which landed her the Innovator Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, and last year Elliot became the first woman rap artist to enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Orlando theme park SeaWorld will implement extended hours on Saturdays starting this week on July 13 and running through early August.
Starting this weekend, the park will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., to give early birds a chance to experience the park before the stifling heat and/or rain comes rolling in.
Something new for park guests to check out is the Penguin Trek family coaster, now open to the public with its snowmobile styled cars for a jaunt through Antarctic environments with speeds up to 43 mph. (Though our own Seth Kubersky was less than enthused.)
Other new doings at SeaWorld this summer include the Bands, Brew & BBQ live music and food experience, along with the Xceleration show and the Shamu & Crew parade. As part of these extended hours, guests can partake in dance parties and other shows after the sun sets on top of their Ignite Fireworks show.
SeaWorld’s extended Saturday hours of operation run until Aug. 3.

Theresa Caputo, The Long Island Medium, is coming to Orlando this October for a chance for Central Florida fans to experience her skills up close.
Theresa Caputo Live! The Experience will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 16-17, at the Plaza Live in the Milk District.
The Lifetime show Raising Spirits star and best-selling author will (theoretically) give attendees a chance to communicate with loved ones who have passed on. There will be a full-stage video set up to make attendees feel like they’re in the center of the action.

The “Fighting My Demons” rapper, whose relationship with Orlando includes being arrested outside the Grand Bohemian Hotel in 2021 and performing with fellow Opium artist Destroy Lonely in 2022, is kicking off his tour at the Orlando Amphitheater on Monday.

The tandem of Cassidy Jones and Daniel Harris Mendoza might be better known to local margin-dwellers as two-thirds of cyber-thrashers C0mputer [or maybe that’s just our bias showing], but they’re also each gifted and outside-the-lines visual artists.
No Gods, No Masterpieces is their joint show opening this weekend at Stardust Video, boasting new collages and paintings from Jones and Mendoza. Their work is stunning and mordantly funny and thought-provoking all at once; these are visual pieces that chronicle the collapse of society under out-of-control capitalism, and how sometimes brief fragments of beauty and joy can be found under the bottom lines and outside he profit margins.
“Why not abandon the notion of masterpieces? What happens when we stop striving to create the next masterpiece and simply strive to make art?” shared the two in a statement sent to Orlando Weekly. “We become ungovernable, we become uncuratable — and we think that is beautiful.”

For those who like their headbanging scattered, smothered and covered, here’s a heaping sampler of trailer-park metal. That’s not me being condescending — just ask Orlando headliner Bodybox, whose frenzied, drug-obsessed death metal comes in titles like “Doublewide Stomp,” “Angeldust” and “Resin Scraper.”
As for Virginia’s Restrictor Plate, well, let’s see: They’re a death-grind band named after a racecar part and their music is self-described as “NASCORE.” In the event those clues were too subtle for you, songs like “Slamtona” and “Earnhardt Stomp”should complete the picture.
Finally, Florida’s Chain Gang specialize in the kind of tough-guy beatdown sound that’s custom-built for cage fighters to enter the ring. Oh yes, maximum ass will be kicked.

The five-member Korean boy-band A.C.E. are back and coming to Orlando this Friday for their Rewind US tour.
Fresh from two years of mandatory military service in South Korea, the band is traveling to 14 cities across North America. (In true Elvis Presley fashion, the band dropped everything to serve in the country’s armed forces, but have regained momentum with ease.)
The reconvened A.C.E. in quick succession has dropped new mini-album My Girl: My Choice and the single “Supernatural”; My Girl: My Choice boasts a blend of English and Korean love songs with slight jazzy elements meshing with their signature pop flair. A.C.E promises to play fan favorites like “Savage,” “Under Cover,” “Goblin (Favorite Boys)” and more. And that’s an order.

There are few more dedicated boosters, archivists and chroniclers of the unhinged and overlooked far reaches of the Central Florida underground than Todd Lynne. Now known best as cryptic solo dream-pop phantom Haves&Thirds, Lynne has a long musical life dating back to his teens — and one of his most infamous outlets was skronk-rampagers Hepatitis Youth.
Lynne had been piecing together a documentary on the band, with the iconic title Just Say ‘No’ to No Wave, for several years now. This early-2000s noise-rock unit were infamous for both their uncompromising sonics and tendency to rip a set in unconventional spaces (including a hapless mall food court). They got a lot of their adventures on VHS and now you get to see it all. Also on the menu are a few other deep-Central Florida short films and a performance from Skeleton Warrior-adjacent (more vintage Central Floridian strangeness!) experimental duo Malverde.

The full lineup for this year’s Eat to the Beat concert series has finally been unveiled, with a mix of new and nostalgic acts across genre providing a sonic accompaniment to the International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot.
From late August through early mid-November, a rotating procession of acts from the 1980s through to the present day — including new-to-the-fest acts like Yellowcard, the Wanted and David Archuleta — will entertain attendees at the theme park’s popular International Food & Wine Festival.

Traveling music festival Punk in the Park promises plenty of punk and hardcore legends, along with craft beer, in Orlando for the first time late summer.
Set for mid-September and happening at the fairgrounds, Punk in the Park’s lineup includes Alkaline Trio, The Vandals, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, T.S.O.L., The Dwarves [OK, sold] and Swingin’ Utters, with plenty more bands to be announced. Bands will be sprawled over two separate stages.
The day is also billed as a “Craft Beer Tasting Festival” so put down your cider and lager [olddddd punk reference that will fall flat].
Punk in the Park happens at the Orlando Amphitheater on Saturday, Sept. 14. Tickets are already on sale through the Festival’s website.

Steve-O said he’s transitioned from “celebration mode” to “acceptance mode” since celebrating his 50th birthday earlier this month.
Of course, for him, accepting age looks like performing back-to-back stunt shows in Orlando this weekend and then getting launched out of a pontoon boat at Mike Busey’s Sausage Castle the following day.
The stunt-performing star of the Jackass MTV show and films will bring his newest tour, tentatively titled “Steve-O’s Gone Too Far,” to the Dr. Phillips Center’s Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater for two shows at 5 and 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.
The multimedia event will combine live stunts with video footage from old, unaired Jackass sequences cut from the original films because they were deemed unairable, Steve-O says.
“The powers that be would want to have completely scrubbed them from existence. But unfortunately, I have all the video,” he says. “I was nervous about it because I genuinely felt that maybe the stuff I’m presenting is just too horrific.”
But Steve-O has been delighted by audiences’ enthusiastic reactions at the shows he’s performed so far, he says. He considers live reactions the “only way” to get honest feedback — as opposed to comments on his podcast or YouTube channel, which can be disingenuous.
“A whole room can’t pretend to laugh out loud … people can’t fake their response in a live situation, so it’s really the only way to find out which jokes work,” he says. “That’s what this run is all about.”
Over the past 13 years, Steve-O’s live performances have come a long way from a simple stage and microphone. This tour will be his second to include multimedia elements after he introduced the format during his 2023 tour, “Steve-O’s Bucket List.” But after wrapping Steve-O’s Gone Too Far, he may retire from live physical stunts, he said.
“I don’t care to have to keep pushing the boundaries of all the physical stuff that I do anymore,” he says. “But to get better and better at something and then just stop entirely might not make sense, so I just don’t know what the future looks like.”
Steve-O recounted a conversation with media personality Caitlyn Jenner where she compared him to Elton John. The beloved British songwriter used to perform in increasingly elaborate, outrageous outfits on tour, until at a certain point he couldn’t keep topping himself, relates Steve-O.
At a certain point, John gave up and started wearing normal suits. Steve-O compares this tour to his “Elton John moment,” while his next tour may feature him donning a metaphorical suit, dropping physical stunts in favor of a simple microphone.
Performing for Florida is a homecoming of sorts for Steve-O, who lived in the state off and on throughout his childhood and graduated from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in Sarasota in 1997.
Steve-O still has family in Florida, including his father, who will attend his performance in West Palm Beach a couple of days before the Orlando stop. Although nervous for his father to attend the show, Steve-O says he has no plans to tone it down for his sake.
“I’ve always said about my live comedy, ‘Dad, don’t judge the show based on what you think of me,’” he says. “‘Judge the show based on how the audience responds to it.’”
The Jackass MTV series was filmed partially in Orlando, including a stunt from the first episode of Season 3 when Steve-O walks down Rosalind Avenue in an Uncle Sam costume and stilts and exaggeratedly falls over to gauge reactions from passersby.
Steve-O hopes his return to Orlando will leave Dr. Phillips Center audiences horrified by exploits ranging from “feats of anal penetration” to gun-shooting stunts, he says.
“I’m an entertainer, which I believe is synonymous with ‘attention whore,’” he says. “I want everyone to pay attention to me, and I want them to be glad that they did, because they had a good time at my show.”

Blue-hued juggernauts the Blue Man Group have announced their long-awaited return to an Orlando attraction, but maybe not the one you’re thinking of.
On Thursday, the fan-favorite performance artists confirmed their return to the Orlando tourist sector, but now they will be calling Icon Park home for a performance residency, rather than their old stomping grounds at Universal CityWalk. The cobalt fellows held court at Universal for a long run that ended in 2021.
“There is no greater world stage than Orlando for exciting family fun, making it a natural choice as a home base for Blue Man Group,” said Jack Kenn, managing director of Blue Man Group, in a press statement. “Our fans are eager for the Blue Men to be part of their Orlando vacations, and our creative team is thrilled to create a new type of experience that is even more immersive and personalized to Orlando.”
The Blue Man Group will be getting blue at a brand-new 500-seat theater, to be built and open for business by the end of the year.

do seem to be going all out, with reportedly over 200 vendors confirmed. So expect plenty of crepuscular art, taxidermy, “morbid antiques,” collectibles, jewelry, costumery and cosplay accessories — as well as food and drink.
Oh yes, and a creepy carnival so you can get your midyear frights before Halloween. Don’t worry; this one’s indoors, so you don’t have to sacrifice your fell fashion to the cruel sun.
