    Founded in 2005 in a dive bar in Brooklyn, Dr. Sketchy’s has now spread to more than 100 cities around the world.     Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Concert

    The 46th iteration of this Cleveland Orchestra concert honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. takes place tonight at 7 at Mandel Concert Hall. More than 100 orchestra musicians and about 150 singers will be on hand for the celebration. The concert is free, but tickets are required. The concert will also stream on the orchestra’s website and be broadcast live on WCLV 90.3 and WKSU 89.7.

    Krautrock Brunch

    The Beachland Tavern hosts a special edition of its Sunday brunch today as DJ Stanislav spins psychedelic rock from Germany’s first post-Nazi generation.     New Year’s Eve with Dominic Farinacci & Friends

The concert begins at 9:30 p.m., and he’ll be back at the venue at noon tomorrow for a special New Year’s Day brunch.

Then, at 7:30 p.m., the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young tribute performs in the Supper Club and local favorites the Sunrise Jones play at 9 p.m. in the Concert Hall.

    Barons vs. Hershey Bears

    For a few select games this season, the Cleveland Monsters will become the Cleveland Barons as a nod to the hold Cleveland pro hockey team. They kick off a two-game contest against the Hershey Bears with tonight’s game at Rocket Arena. The puck drops at 7. The two teams will play again at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the arena.

    Josh Blue

    Winner of the 2006 edition of Last Comic Standing, comedian Josh Blue received rave reviews for his 2011 Comedy Central special. Recently, Blue, who has cerebral palsy and often references that in his routines, debuted the one-hour Showtime special, Sticky Change. Blue, who likes to joke that he’s a “white African-American” because he was born in Africa, performs tonight at 7 at Hilarities, where he has shows scheduled through Saturday.

    Blue Oyster Cult

    The classic rock group performs at 6:30 tonight at the Agora. The band is still a staple on classic rock radio thanks to hits such as “”(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” “Godzilla” and “Burnin’ for You.” It is also the inspiration for the Saturday Night Live sketch “More Cowbell.” Local rockers the Rick Ray Band open.

    Dvořák’s New World Symphony

    Gary Owen

    Comedian Gary Owen has been entertaining audiences across America for more than a decade. He’s not limited to the stage either, as he’s had roles in the film Think Like a Man and in Tyler Perry’s show House of Payne. Owen says he was always the class clown growing up and it has followed him into his adult life. Ebony magazine proclaimed him to be “Black America’s Favorite White Comedian.” Owen’s set mainly focuses on his personal life and racial stereotypes. He performs at 7 tonight at the Funny Bone, where he has shows scheduled through Sunday.

    Steve Martin and Martin Short: In Conversation

    The two comedians and actors who have struck gold with their Hulu hit Only Murders in the Building come to Akron Civic Theatre for a night of comedy and conversation. The show begins at 7:30.

    Iam Tongi

    The Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter who won Season 21 of American Idol performs at 7:30 p.m. at the Kent Stage. His single “Road to Hana” typifies his good vibes approach and comes off as a jangly country pop number about a Maui tourist destination.

    The Abnormal Heart

    Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers

    Tonight at 7 at Rocket Arena, the Cavaliers play the Indiana Pacers, the team that beat them in last season’s playoffs. The Pacers will be without their star player, Tyrese Haliburton, but will still be a formidable opponent. The game begins at 7 p.m. The Cavs will play at home again on Sunday at 6 p.m. when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers.

    CLE Mixtape Live

    Local musicians collaborate with composer-arranger Dan Bruce for this concert featuring “intimate storytelling with innovative orchestration. ” In addition, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales and all merchandise sales from this celebration benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, supporting vital programs that fight hunger. The performance includes original music by Ray Flanagan, Liz Bullock, Jinari Kemet and Gretchen Pleuss. It begins at 7 p.m. at Cleveland Museum of Art.

    Night Ranger

    Singer-drummer Kelly Keagy and guitarist Brad Gillis founded this band in 1979, and it would go to have some commercial success in the 1980s thanks to hits such as “Sister Christian” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.” Director Paul Thomas Anderson effectively uses “Sister Christian” in a pivotal scene in his 1997 movie Boogie Nights. The group returns to MGM Northfield Park — Center Stage. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

    They Might Be Giants

    The quirky alternative rock band plays the Agora as part of its the Big Tour. The group’s career stretches back decades now, and press materials boast that the band will play wildly different sets when it performs for multiple nights in a single city.     Third Friday

    From 5 to 9 p.m., many of the 78th Street Studios resident artist studios and galleries will be open as part of this monthly event.     Annual Panza Foundation Benefit

    A few years back, local philanthropist and rocker John Panza started a foundation to help local bands succeed. The organization hosts an annual benefit to raise money for its grant recipients. This year’s even takes place at 8 p.m. at the Happy Dog. It’ll feature performances by this year’s four grant recipients, and music gear and other items will be raffled off during the proceedings.

    Blondeshell

    Sabrina Teitelbaum, who records and tours as Blondeshell, brings her tour in support of her sophomore album, If You Asked for a Picture, to the Beachland Ballroom. She’s just released an expanded version of the album that includes new and live Blondeshell songs along with a few choice covers of songs by influences such as Conor Oberst, Samia and Folk Bitch Trio. The Sonder Bombs open, and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

    Crocker Park’s Annual Tree Lighting

    An annual tradition, Crocker Park’s annual tree lighting festival takes place today with live entertainment, a special vendor market and face painting. Food trucks will be on hand, and Santa will roll into the event at 6 p.m.

    Frost

    Tropidelic

    The local act that’s become a nationally touring band returns to the Agora. Tropidelic formed in 2008 in Kent and built a following after self-distributing more than 10,000 free copies of its self-produced first EP, Rebirth of the Dope. During the course of its nearly 20-year career, the group has opened for acts such as Slightly Stoopid, 311, Pepper, the Dirty Heads, Sublime w/Rome, Soja, the Wailers and Flobots. It’s now a legitimate headliner. Atrikal Sound System, Grieves and Land of Panda open. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

    Trey Anastasio Band at the Akron Civic Theatre

    The Phish singer-guitarist brings his solo show to the Akron Civic Theatre. The concert begins at A founding member of the jam band Phish, singer-guitarist Anastasio has released more than two dozen studio and live albums as a solo artist and in addition to Phish, he’s toured on his own and with the Trey Anastasio Band, Classic TAB, Trey Anastasio Trio and other iterations. The concert, which will feature Anastasio and his band along with a horn section, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre.

The group boasts that it is the longest continuously performing Pink Floyd tribute act in the world. Doors open at 7 p.m.

    Zainab Johnson

    Having grown up in Harlem as one of 13 siblings in a Muslim family, comedian Zainab Johnson has plenty of material at her disposal.     Bryan Adams: Roll with the Punches

    Perhaps best known for his ’80s hit “Summer of ’69,” singer-songwriter Bryan Adams returns to Rocket Arena. Adams has a new album out and at least a few tracks will come from it, including the rousing title track, “Roll with the Punches.” In keeping with the show’s nostalgic nature, ’80s icons Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo will open.     ChargeFest at Public Hall

    ChargeFest celebrates the return of NBA G League basketball to return to Public Hall. The event, which takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. will give fans an exclusive first look at the new Charge court and a chance to meet the new head coach. Local rock band Trailer Park Ninjas will provide entertainment while fans can shoot a free throw on the court, take locker room tours, and meet mascots such as Pozzie, Sir CC and Moondog.     Dia de Muertos 2024

    Though it might not sound like it, the Detroit Shoreway’s Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration is a family-friendly affair. Vendors will set up inside Cleveland Public Theatre’s Parish Hall, and Gordon Square Arts District bars and restaurants will have specials. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and goes until 10 p.m.

    Eric Church: Free the Machine Tour

    The country singer-guitarist known for his epic live shows comes to Rocket Arena. The current tour supports Church’s ninth studio album, Evangeline vs. The Machine.     An Evening with Live

    The ’90s rock act performs at 8 p.m. at MGM Northfield Park — Center Stage. Led by emotionally charged singer-guitarist Ed Kowalczyk, the group delivered a huge hit in the mid-’90s with the anthem “Lightening Crashes.” While it hasn’t followed up with anything quite as massive, the band has remained active.

    Kevin Gates

    Harvest Festival

    This annual event that takes place today and tomorrow at Hale Farm & Village will feature cooking demonstrations, wagon rides provided by Trail Light Farms, early American crafts and trades, daily performances from Johnny Appleseed (portrayed by poet and educator Ray McNiece), seasonal games and activities, farm animals and Hale Farm’s MarketPlace.     Now in its 16th year, the Spooky Pooch Parade attracts hundreds of dogs to Lakewood’s Madison Park.     The Notebook

    Our Town

    Shuler King
    When he isn’t on the road performing at comedy clubs and special events across the country, Shuler King, who holds a degree in mortuary science, works as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Georgia and South Carolina at his family’s funeral business in South Carolina. Hard to imagine a story or two from the day job won’t be part of the set when the comedian performs at 7 tonight at the Funny Bone, where he has shows scheduled through Sunday.

    Lorna Shore

    Pain Remains, the 2022 effort from this metal band, is an epic affair that clocks in at just over an hour and commences with the riveting “Welcome Back, O’ Sleeping Dreamer,” a tune that begins with an orchestral flourish before howling vocals and deafening drums take over. On tour in support of the just-released Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me, the group plays at 5 p.m. at Jacobs Pavilion. The Black Dahlia Murder, Shadow of Intent and Peelingflesh open.

    Last Artist Standing Talk & Book Signing

    Artist and educator Sharon Louden’s latest book, Last Artist Standing: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life, Over 50, explores what it means to “sustain a lifelong creative practice. It offers 31 artists’ insights into building a durable, fulfilling career at any stage of life. She speaks tonight at 6 at MoCa Cleveland.     The Mountain Goats

    The indie rock group that’s the project of talented singer-songwriter John Darnielle comes to the Agora. Doors open at 7 p.m. The group’s roots date back to the early ’90s, and the band’s latest release, 2023s Jenny from Thebes, sounds poppy than ever as the group presents a sequel to 2002’s All Hail West Texas.

    Ravel’s Boléro
    Franz Welser-Möst conducts the Cleveland Orchestra as it plays Ravel’s Bolero along with Richard Strauss’s “Dance of the Seven Veils” from Salome.     Sunday in the Park with George

    John Waite
    Singer-songwriter John Waite first came to prominence as the vocalist and bassist of the English rock outfit the Babys, best known for pop-rock hits such as “Isn’t It Time?” and “Every Time I Think of You” in the late 1970s. That group disbanded in 1980 (after a final performance in Akron), but Waite kept going and scored a No. 1 U.S. hit with “Missing You.” The singer-songwriter comes to the Kent Stage at 6:30 p.m.

    Crocker Park’s Food Truck Challenge
    Cleveland’s best food trucks will be lining up on Main Street to compete to win one of the “best of…” categories being judged.     BabyTron

    The rapper straight out of Ypsilanti, MI comes to the Agora Theatre. ShittyBoyz, a hip-hop group of which BabyTron is a member, open the show.     Jokes on You

    After a 20-plus year hiatus, the locally produced independent film festival returns this weekend.     Autopolitan

    Chico Bean

    An Evening with David Byrne —Who Is the Sky Tour

    Chalk Festival

A modern expression of a Renaissance tradition from 16th-century Italy in which beggars copied paintings of the Madonna by Raphael and his contemporaries using chalk on the plazas outside cathedrals, the festival takes place from noon to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow.

    Cleveland Pickle Fest

    The Darkness

    Leonid & Friends — 2025 Or 6 To 4
    Originally formed as a studio project in Russia, Leonid & Friends became an international sensation when renditions of Chicago’s songs went viral.     Most of comedian Mark Normand’s material comes from observations of everyday life.     Texas Headhunters
    The three members of this blues trio — Ian Moore, Johnny Moeller and Jesse Dayton — represent the last wave of the late Clifford Antone’s discoveries.     Mike Farley & Friends
    A fixture on the local music scene in the early 2000s, the Mike Farley Band dissolved in 2003 as band members went their separate ways. The group planned to reunite for a show in 2020, but Covid-19 wiped that gig out, so the group instead released an album of previously unreleased songs and demos, B-sides and rarities. Now, they’ve finally booked their reunion concert. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at Brothers Lounge.

    Model Martel Release Party
    In the past, the members of Model Martel have played in local acts such as Echoes of Harpers Ferry, Worship This, Sleeper Horse, Seafair, but when those groups dissolved, they formed Model Martel. They’ve just released a new music video for the catchy tune “Mitt” that they filmed locally at TRG Studios, and their new album comes out this week on Denver-based punk label Snappy Little Numbers.     The Notebook

    Alison Krauss & Union Station

    Our Town

    LoveMuffinPalooza
    This annual concert serves as a fundraiser for the Gathering Place, a cancer support center with locations in Beachwood and Westlake.     One World Day
    Since 1945 the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation (CCGF) has celebrated this day-long event that exemplifies the theme Peace through Mutual Understanding. With the streets closed to traffic, visitors can stroll, bike, scoot or ride the free shuttles throughout the 250-acre area and visit many of gardens. The Parade of Flags, which takes place at noon, will feature more than 1,000 people from 50 cultures marching with flags and traditional clothing of their heritage. Admission is free.

    PNWK Showcase

    Reggae Sundays

    All Dolled Up: 200 Years of Dolls and Miniatures Film Viewing Party and Exhibition Grand Opening

    From porcelain and rag dolls to Barbie and American Girl, this exhibit at Western Reserve Historical Society includes dolls alongside life-sized fashion and historical images of children from the WRHS collection. In some cases, dolls or objects will be displayed alongside their life-sized counterparts, while other vignettes will open a window into the secret world of dolls. A film viewing party and exhibition grand opening takes place today from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is included with general admission to the museum.

    The Black Dahlia Murder & Dying Fetus
    The two hard rock acts bring their co-headlining tour to the Agora. Black Dahlia Murder, which just released its tenth studio album, is riding high from the success of its new single, the heavy “Mammoth’s Hand,” which is partly inspired by a scene from Don Coscarelli’s 1982 film, The Beastmaster. The veteran metal band Dying Fetus recently released their new album, Make Them Beg For Death. Spite, Angelmaker and Vomit Forth share the bill. Doors are at 5:30 p.m.

    Chagrin Documentary Film Festival
    Filmmakers many of their subjects from around the country will be on hand for this annual festival that takes place at venues in Chargin Falls.     Harding Conducts Schumann

    Historic Haunts Walking Tour
    Held in the residential areas surrounding the Gordon Square Arts District, Historic Haunts offers an immersive experience that blends Cleveland’s rich history with “spine-tingling urban legends” such as Ray Caldwell, Garrett Morgan, May Dougan, and Bessie. West Clinton Historic Haunts runs today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and tomorrow and Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm with tours leaving every 10 minutes.

    Ohio Mart

    Uz Jsme Doma
    The art rock band out of Prague returns to the Beachland Tavern. Expect to hear Zappa-inspired music that embraces unconventional rhythms and beats. The show begins at 8 p.m. Da Land Brass Band opens.

    Cleveland Beer Week Neighborhood Crawl — Kamms Corner

    Cleveland Beer Week kicks off with this special event that features eight special beers brewed for the occasion. Check in at West Park Station at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. Advance tickets preferred, but tickets will be available at the door only if space remains. Proceeds benefit Rec2Connect, Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter and the Malone Scholarship Program.

    A Midsummer Night’s Dream

    MIX: Bailamos

    My Morning Jacket
    To date, this terrific Kentucky-based band has released nine studio albums that provide a showcase for eccentric singer-songwriter Jim James. On their most recent release, 2021’s My Morning Jacket, they tried to capture the intensity of their live shows and songs such as the bluesy “Never in the Real World” feature gritty guitars and synthesizer swells.     Negativland + SUE-C: We Can Really Feel Like We’re Here

    Marc Lee Shannon Release Party

    Sarah Shook & the Disarmers

    Clutch and Rival Sons

Co-headliners Rival Sons can’t lay claim to the same legacy, but they’ve embraced the heavier side blues rock with the same enthusiasm as Clutch.     Crawlers
    Earlier this summer, this UK-based indie rock act performed on the main stage at Reading to tens of thousands of screaming fans.     An Evening with Smoke Screen
    Chemist (Thomas Sheridan) and Mooke (Rodney Mynatt), the duo that formed the local hip-hop group Smoke Screen some 15 years ago, were friends long before the group came to fruition.
