  • Experts Love This Prototype Evening Skincare Routine for All Ages and Skin Types

Experts Love This Prototype Evening Skincare Routine for All Ages and Skin Types

Celebrity aesthetician Ian Michael Crumm encourages tailoring your routine to your skin’s specific needs, as everyone’s skin is unique. “If you have specific skin concerns, consult with a dermatologist or aesthetician for personalized guidance,” he suggests. If you have aging skin, for example, Crumm recommends opting for products with retinol, peptides, and antioxidants. In that same vein, your skin type (combination, dry, oily, or normal) should be taken into consideration while piecing together an effective evening skincare routine. Even a change in weather pattern or season can influence the behavior of your skin! Your age can also majorly influence what products should be a part of your nightly skincare routine.

Up until a couple years ago, my skin type was normal, but within a month or so of my 24th birthday, I noticed it was feeling a lot drier, which called for transitioning products in and out of my skincare routine. For dry skin types, board-certified dermatologist Teresa Song, MD, FAAD, of Marmur Medical recommends using a non-foaming, hydrating cleanser followed by moisturizer, retinol, and then a second application of moisturizer, also known as the sandwich method, to offset potential retinoid irritation. “If still feeling dry, one can even add in a hydrating serum prior to moisturizer application,” says Song.

Alternatively, oily and acne-prone skin can benefit the most from foaming or non-foaming cleansers alternated with a sulfur-based face wash twice a week. According to Song, if cream-based moisturizers feel too heavy, but your skin tolerates retinol well, consider moisturizers with water-gel textures. If you fall into this category, prescription retinoid usage may also be effective. Unsure of where to start? There’s a fast and easy way to determine which products to try without breaking the bank or putting your skin’s health at risk.

20 Nordstrom Beauty Products to Snag Before Gen Z Buys Them All

For most people, November signifies the long-awaited beginning of the holiday season, but for those of us whose careers are based in fashion and beauty, this month happens to be one of our busiest. When we’re not tackling our overflowing email inboxes or deep in a writing hole, we’re taking note of the standout products that have defined our year. This time around, I’ve scoured the far corners of social media and took hints from Gen Z to pinpoint the beauty products that no doubt will by flying off the shelves as soon as this year’s biggest holiday sales begin.

It’s almost time for Nordstrom’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday savings event, and I’m beyond excited to get my hands on some high-performing (and, dare I say, aesthetic) products by innovative skincare brands like Sunday Riley and The Ordinary and ultra-luxe makeup brands such as Westman Atelier and Hourglass. I’ve fully convinced myself that I want the 20 products below, and I’m more than willing to try to beat my fellow Gen Z members to the punch. May the shopping odds be ever in your favor!

  • The Ordinary Is Boycotting Black Friday With An Epic Month-Long Sale

The Ordinary Is Boycotting Black Friday With An Epic Month-Long Sale

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, StyleCaster may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

Deciem is standing out from the pack this holiday season, just like the company has done the past four years to great success. The parent company for The Ordinary’s Black Friday 2023 sale is an anti-Black Friday blowout, a boycott of the day when we often spend too much and buy things we don’t need because we’re moving too fast.

It’s all about “Slowvember” for Deciem. That means you won’t be able to shop on November 27. The website and stores will be closed. But don’t worry — you can still pick up the brand’s affordable skincare at a discount throughout the entire month of November.

“At Deciem, we are working towards minimizing the impact our products have on the earth, including looking at our packaging, water and energy use across our offices and supply chain globally,” Jackie Kankam, Director of Sustainability and Social Impact at Deciem, previously said in a statement. “Whilst we have started our journey, we are still not a sustainable company. Initiatives such as our Slowvember campaign encourage everyone to do better for a lasting planet.”

You have the whole month to shop so you can decide what to grab on your own time. This way, we’ll only pick up what we really need and keep excess products from ending up in landfills. And when we say sale, we mean sale. Everything from Deciem is 23 percent off. That includes The Ordinary and Niod (science-focused skincare at a higher price point).

Want to save even more money? The Ordinary created limited-edition, only-only product collections for unique skin types, such as The Smooth Skin Collection to target uneven skin texture. It comes with Glucoside Foaming Cleanser, Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, and Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan, at an additional 5 percent off if you buy the whole set together.

As if that wasn’t enough, on November 10, you’ll be able to shop bigger sizes of two best-sellers: a 240mL Squalane Cleanser and 100mL Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Solution.

Feeling overwhelmed? Get started by shopping some of our favorites, below.

Every Skincare Staple Our Beauty Team Is Using to Transition From Summer to Fall

If there’s one thing Who What Wear’s beauty editors can agree on, it’s the importance of adapting our skincare routines to whatever it is our skin demands from us each season, which can be a lot. My skin, for example, falls into an unfortunate cycle of dryness and uneven textures deterred only by heavy hydration efforts. Facing off against dull, lifeless-looking skin is another one of my skin struggles that rears its head by mid-November.

Now that we’ve reached the end of summer and are beginning our transition into all things fall, I thought it would be an ideal time to reflect upon the products my fellow beauty team members and I swear upon to lead the charge into this next season. • Sunburn Remedies For Those Who Forgot SPF

Sunburn Remedies For Those Who Forgot SPF

    I’m from New Jersey
(I know, hide your horrified gasps), which means I spent Memorial Day Weekend “down the shore.” In case you’re unaware, to inaugurate the start of summer, the entirety of the state flocks to the beaches to party the way Snooki intended. It’s every bit as lawless as you could imagine, but it’s tradition nonetheless.

And while your perception of New Jersey may be fake tans and tanning beds galore, my pasty pale skin begs to differ. Although I can develop a tan over the summer, those first few beach trips scorch my skin to no end. I can’t even imagine the deep fine lines and wrinkles I’ve accumulated from just this past weekend alone.

Even if I do have a small base tan from a short vacay during the winter, I need to remind myself that I’m not stronger than the literal Sun. I’m not “built differently” by any means and I can’t leave the house without sunscreen. It’s the epitome of laziness on my part, unable to take five minutes to slather some lotion onto my body.

So yes, I write this as I’m sunburnt and peeling. I’m regretting my actions, because they were totally preventable and wholly my fault. However, I’m now in stage two of sunburn grief: full determination to turn it into a lasting tan. If I can’t win in one way, I’ll win in another.

I’ve spent the past 20 or so summers of my life on the beach. I know how to transform a sunburn quickly from painful and scorching to a nice cocoa tan. And it’s honestly not as hard as you’d think.

How To Care For Your Sunburn, The Right Way

Let’s be real: your skin is literally screaming for help when you get sunburnt. Your skin has lost a lot of hydration, so the key is to look for ingredients that will remedy that. Just like your face, your skin barrier can be disrupted anywhere on your body. It’s why your skin can be dry year-round. Your entire body’s skin barrier is essentially broken when you get a sunburn.

@drclairewolinsky My top picks to heal a sunburn #sunburn#sunprotection#sunscreen#dermatologist#doctor#foryou#tips♬ original sound – DrClaireWolinsky

You’ve depleted skin cells, which means you’re going to want to stay super hydrated. Regenerate those cells from the inside out.

But that’s not all. Getting a moisturizing cleanser for your body with good moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil or shea butter can help restore some of that lost moisture. A light moisturizer is recommended post-shower, like an aloe vera so you don’t trap in the heat from your skin.

If you’re in dire trouble, a hydrocortisone cream can reduce redness and inflammation. By acting quickly, you’re mitigating the chance of damaging your skin long-term.

    Quick At-Home Sunburn Remedies

If you’re in a pinch and can’t make it to the store for your sunburn remedy needs, there are a few at-home sunburn cures that can help. By soaking paper towels in cold milk, you can pull the heat away from your body. If you apply yogurt to your skin, the vitamin E will help with inflammation.

@dermguru Or don’t burn in the first place 🤷♀️ #sunburn#skincarehack#learnontiktok#dermatologist#dermguru#fyp#foryoupagw♬ Beggin’ – Måneskin

The same goes for cucumbers, which are known for reducing inflammation in skin (it’s why you put them over your sleep-deprived eyes). You’ll also want to take ibuprofen to reduce your inflammation and frequent cold showers to keep your body temperature down.

    Best Sunburn Remedies

However, there’s no easier way to cure a sunburn than keeping around a few clasic store-bought products. I’ve been impartial to a few after-sun care brands like Maui Babe and Hawaiian Tropic for years now…but thanks to TikTok, I’ve found so many different ways to cure my sunburn quickly. Here are my findings:

Best Aloe Face Serum:The Ordinary Aloe 2% + NAG 2% Serum

If you’re a skincare enthusiast like myself, you know The Ordinary has the best serums at affordable pricing. This aloe serum has it all: hydrating aloe vera to cool down that sunburn…plus it reduces the appearance of pores and scars, uneven skin tone, and strengthens your skin barrier all at once!

Best Classic Aloe:Banana Boat Soothing After Sun Gel

Growing up, I was confident that if I went into my bathroom cabinet, this Banana Boat After Sun Gel would be front and center. It was always on-hand for beach vacations when I would somehow scorch my baby skin after layers of SPF applied. It’s a tried-and-true, pro tip: keep in the fridge to cool your body down even more.

Best Aloe + SPF:Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF 50

Another skincare bestie is Cosrx, who is known for their Snail Mucin. The K-Beauty brand also has a very popular aloe face cream for those who battled the sun and lost. The best part about this cream? It also has SPF so you’re already prepared.

Best After Sun Lotion:Hawaiian Tropic Weightless Hydration After Sun Lotion

Dermatologist recommended, Hawaiian Tropic is one of the world’s favorite suncare companies. It contains moisturizing shea butter and aloe vera to make your skin feel rejuvenated and, more importantly, less burnt. It feels (and smells) like an everyday lotion, with extra moisturization to heal your burn fast.

Best For Developing Tan:Maui Babe After Browning Lotion Tan Enhancer & Healer

You’ve probably heard of the Maui Babe Browning Lotion from TikTok, but trust me…this After Browning Lotion is probably twice as good. It has super-hydrating ingredients like Glycerin, Macadamia Nut Oil, and Aloe Vera and gives me the healthiest, glowing tan I could want. It’s worth all the hype, I would know because I’ve been using it for years.

Best After Sun Spray: Sun Bum After Sun Cool Down Spray

If you’re anything like me, you prefer spray cans of SPF and aloe to lotion. My current fave is the Sun Bum Cool Down Spray, which goes on as a matte oil-consistency, and gets the job done quickly.

  • We Asked the Experts, and These 5 Eyebrow Trends Will Be Huge In 2023

We Asked the Experts, and These 5 Eyebrow Trends Will Be Huge In 2023

Not too long ago, there was a time when your brows needed to be filled in, perfectly arched, and blocky to prove you were up to date on the latest eyebrow trends. Bold brows were everywhere, with multi-step brow routines inspiring a boom in the creation of brow pomades, gels, pencils, and powders.

However, in recent years, makeup trends have evolved toward a more natural-looking approach. Eyebrow trends have followed suit, with fluffy, brushed-up (verging on unruly) brows dominating both the catwalks and our Instagram feeds. “I’ve definitely been using less in my brows, and I know my clients have too,” says makeup artist and brow specialist Lucy Hart. “Brows are definitely a lot softer compared to previous years, and I think for 2023, fluffy, natural brows are here to stay.”

  • The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Dupes

The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Dupes

TikTok’s hottest trend has been drugstore dupes for luxury products. Whether that be skincare or makeup, everyone’s trying to save their money on their everyday routines. Blame inflation, blame the job market, but saving money never goes out of style.

And while I’ll fling all my paycheck over to brands like Sunday Riley and Charlotte Tilbury because I love how their products make me feel, I just can’t keep up with my influencer lifestyle. So I must start looking into dupes, but I don’t want to sacrifice quality for savings.

Luckily, drugstore brands like e.l.f. and NYX are cracking down on the luxury beauty market by creating their own dupes. With most of these products you get the same ingredients for about a quarter of the price. And seriously, there’s no difference.

@mualesandro Comparing every product e.l.f has duped! #drugstoremakeup#affordablemakeup#elfcosmetics#dupes#makeupdupe#makeup#BeautyReview♬ Sex and the City (Main Theme) – TV Sounds Unlimited

Who’s going to know if I’m using e.l.f.’s latest moisturizer as opposed to Charlotte Tilbury’s $150 Magic Cream? Sincerely, no one. And who can tell if my lip oil is $40 Dior or $6 NYX?

I’ve been paying close attention to drugstore dupes over the past few months…so if that contour wand isn’t in stock, or you simply can’t afford it, fret not. Here are some brilliant dupes:

A dupe for the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream

    Tatcha

Tatcha moisturizers can cost around $100…and while I love them, no one should spend that much on face cream. People love the plumping and hydrating effect the Dewy Skin Cream has with a blend of hyaluronic acid.

The perfect dupe is the e.l.f. SuperHydrate Moisturizer, which has hydrating ingredients like Squalane and Niacinamide to give you the ultimate radiance. The gel consistency is fabulous for oily skin, and the niacinamide helps control your oil levels so your skin won’t look greasy.

A dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

    Lily James

    Charlotte Tilbury

Another $100 moisturizer that works great, but falls short in the money-saving department. With peptides, vitamins C + E, and hyaluronic acid, it fights aging and gives you a great glow. But there’s certainly a dupe on the market that won’t drain your bank account.

The Pacifica Dreamy Youth Day & Night Face Cream contains similar ingredients like shea oil, peptides, and vitamins E and B5.

A Dupe for Sunday Riley Good Genes

    Sunday Riley

Lactic acid and licorice root are the two main ingredients of the famed Sunday Riley Good Genes serum…it gently exfoliates the skin, brightening the surface and reducing wrinkles. It’s the ultimate jack of all trades.

However, a large bottle of Good Genes costs about $110…and for a three month supply, that’s way too much for me right now. But I still crave the same glowy, youthful skin. The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% Serum will help exfoliate your skin so your makeup will go on flawlessly, for only $9.

A Dupe for Sunday Riley CEO Serum

    Sunday Riley

Again, I adore Sunday Riley products but I cannot afford to integrate an $80 serum in my daily skincare routine…no matter how much I want to. The CEO 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum illuminates your complexion and boosts vital skin bounce. Of course I want that same effect but at an intelligent price range.

The INKEY List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Brightening Serum does the exact same thing for only $16. Affordable skincare can be tricky and even cause breakouts, but The INKEY List and The Ordinary are two brands you can genuinely trust to use whole ingredients. And at a fantastic price point.

A Dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Wands

    Charlotte Tilbury

These wands are the hottest product on the makeup market right now. Constantly sold out online and in-store, the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Wands are the It Girl of beauty wands. Easy to blend and apply, with innovative packaging that competitors have been trying to mimic for months.

Luckily, e.l.f. is coming for Charlotte’s neck with their gorgeous Halo Glow Wands. That’s right, their signature blush, highlight, and contour wands are available at the low price of $9.

A dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter

If you’ve heard of the Charlotte Tilbury wands, you probably know about the equally iconic Flawless Filter. Depending on the shade, this product can serve as highlight, contour, primer, or foundation. It blurs, smooths, and illuminates for an all over glow that is simply angelic.

Although it’s close to $50, people are raving about it. However, the e.l.f. Halo Glow is an exact replica.

A Dupe for Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops

    Drunk Elephant

Influencer Alix Earle has driven Drunk Elephant D’Bronzi Drops sales. They’ve been sold out for months on end! And now that I just got my hands on a gift set sample, I’ve fallen in love and want a full size. However, the beauty world’s hottest product isn’t always in stock.

Dupes have been matriculating for a while, but I personally recommend the luscious Milani Glow Luminizing Liquid Bronzer. It’s the same summer-y glow, but you can drench it all over your entire body!

  • The New Gen Of Kar-Jenners: North West Is Starting A Skincare Line

The New Gen Of Kar-Jenners: North West Is Starting A Skincare Line

In between posting dance videos, chaotic lip syncs, and performing a social experiment on Ice Spice to fully imitate her, North West is certainly TikTok’s busiest nepo baby. At all hours of the day, you can find @kimandnorth alive on the app. Whether it be North forcing Kim Kardashian to do dances created by Charli D’Amelio or posting sped-up videos of Drunk Elephant products – it’s wild.

And nine-year-old North West isn’t the only child of the Kar-Jenner clan who has entered the TikTok world to give us even more unnecessary shots into the Kardashian lifestyle. There’s also an account for @pandkourt (Penelope Disick and Kourtney Kardashian). But perhaps we have given the two children
too much attention for the time being.

What happens when you give the nine-year-old daughter of ego-maniac Kanye West and ultimate influencer Kim Kardashian a couple of million followers on TikTok? That’s right, a skincare brand. The old axiom is “the devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder,” but you weren’t even
    ready for momager Kim Kardashian.

The Kar-Jenner’s have what Kris Jenner didn’t have at this age: the biggest following collectively on Instagram and enough influence to dictate trends moving forward. This means it’ll be a hell of a lot easier for them to get their children the same platform and force them into the spotlight as the Next Gen of the Jenners.

    Kim Kardashian has already
filed trademarks for both a toy and skincare line on North’s behalf. The skincare line will feature non-medicated skin preparations, moisturizers, lotions, creams, and cleansers with the possibility of products like serums, haircare, and bath products in the future. As for the toy brand, expect dolls and action figures with the possibility of educational toys.

It’s borderline insanity to think that North West will be pushing skincare products to nine-year-old girls. While I’m all for the “doing what makes you feel good” mentality, not every young girl needs to be thinking about what serum to use. But maybe it’s just me.

Maybe I grew up in a different time and all nine-year-olds absolutely
have to have a routine because all TikTokers have one. Who’s to say! But I do know this is the beginning of the end. Not only do we have Kim’s Skims, Khloe’s Good American, Kylie’s Kylie Cosmetics, Kendall’s 818 and Kourtney’s Poosh, but now we are adding the children’s brands into the mix.

    @kimandnorth#duet with @icespicee ♬ Ac r7sheed – rhy 🎸🍃 🕸️

A clothing trademark had already been registered for North in 2019, just the mere beginning of what I’m sure will be a long line of influencing from here on out. Not to mention rumored trademarks for Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott’s first child, Stormi Webster, and Penelope Disick have flown about. I’m sure Khloe’s not far behind with True.

I shouldn’t be as shocked as I am, considering North
loves a good skincare TikTok. Whether it be trying SKKN by Kim or her plethora of brightly packaged moisturizers, she is already an influencer in the making.

Who knows if North even pays attention to good ingredients – we know she has the money to afford top-notch skincare that isn’t necessarily accessible to the rest of us, so before you buy SKKN, or North’s impending skincare line, here are my recs:

  • The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Skincare And Makeup

The Ultimate Guide To Drugstore Skincare And Makeup

I will admit it – I get most of my makeup from Sephora and have spent well over $100 for three products in a small black and white striped bag. That’s not to say I’m happy about it.

I just moved into a new apartment, which means I need to budget. I can no longer afford the Sephora routine in which I repurchase the Kosas concealer every few months.

It’s easy to find influencers who plug Sephora’s newest releases, but have you ever noticed that every TikTok makeup routine costs $300 for a full face?

Knowing I need to budget and that I can’t afford the TikTok routines, I’ve gone back to my humble beginnings of drugstore makeup. From products that I’ve loved for years to TikTok’s DS recs, here are full skincare and makeup routines with prodcuts all from the drugstore.

    Your Drugstore Skincare Routine:

    Cleanser:La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser

La Roche-Posay is my favorite drugstore skincare brand. Each product has effective results at my ideal price range. This cleanser is ultra-hydrating for the winter so you can keep that skin barrier strong and healthy.

BHA Toner: Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner

I’m a fan of Paula’s Choice BHA/AHA Exfoliant, but $34 may be a bit much. Peach Slices makes the perfect dupe that works just as well to clear your pores.

    Serums:

I believe that every person should have a few serums in their skincare routine. A hyaluronic acid helps with hydration, while niacinamide brightens your complexion. Then, salicylic acid for breakouts and retinol a few nights a week wil work to prevent signs of aging.

    Moisturizer:La Roche-Posay Cicaplast

This balm/moisturizer changed my life. It saves my dry, flaky skin and can even be used on dry areas like elbows, cuticles, and hands.

Night Cream: CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream

CeraVe is another great drugstore skincare brand that you can’t really go wrong with. This night cream targets dryness and aging, and I’ve used it forever and it gives me glowing skin by the AM.

    Your Drugstore Makeup Routine:

    Primer:Revolution Beauty Blur Stick +

I swear by this primer. It’s formula is infused with vitamins and makes your foundation look flawless. I haven’t found anything quite like it.

Foundation: wet ‘n wild Dewy Photo Focus Foundation

This foundation is comparable to the NARS Light Reflecting or Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin. It provides full coverage, a next-level glow, and looks expensive – but it’s $5.

    Concealer:L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer

TikTok’s current princess, Alix Earle, has been an advocate for this $5 concealer, so we have to trust it. It covers up dark circles and blemishes without caking or drying out. Did I mention it was $5?

    Blush: Milani Baked Blush

Makeup’s hottest must-have is blush. This Milani one is highly pigmented and has a little glow to it. It’ll last forever on your face and in your makeup drawer.

Bronzer: wet ‘n wild Megaglow Contour

A contour stick that isn’t messy and sculpts your face? Sign me up. It’s easy to use, so beginners and makeup gurus alike will love it.

    Highlight:e.l.f. cosmetics Baked Highlighter

This highlighter packs a punch. You can never go wrong with e.l.f. products, but this highlight is my favorite.

Setting Spray:NYX Cosmetics Matte Finish Setting Spray

One of the most popular setting sprays on the drugstore market, you probably recognize the NYX Matte Finish. It glues your makeup to your skin for the night, which is all you can really ask for.

Setting Powder: Maybelline Fit Me Loose Setting Powder

The Maybelline Fit Me collection is a 10/10 across the board. The concealer, foundation, and setting powder will give you a flawless base for under $30. Worth the money every time.

    Mascara:L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara

I use this every. single. day. I swear by L’Oreal Telescopic and I will forever get compliments on my lashes when wear it. If you buy one product from this list, make it this one.

Why Charlotte Tilbury Minis Are A Scam…And Minis You’ll Love More

Over the summer, I was traveling around from place to place, lugging around hoards of makeup products in a huge bag. It was disorganized. It was chaotic. And tragically, it ended with exploded products and, often, tears.

Throughout my travels, I found it very difficult to fit my full-sized makeup, skincare, and brushes into a tiny travel bag. When I attended Coachella, TSA threw out half of my makeup and an expensive Olaplex set because they were too large. I’m still traumatized.

full-sized The Ordinary serums for the price of one mini Charlotte Tilbury. Make it make sense.

While Charlotte’s full-sized products are well worth your dollar, their minis are an instant skip. An abomination to the mini makeup community. A laughable joke, if you will.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened my Sephora bag, so to save you this heartbreak, I compiled a list of the best minis for your travel bag. May your makeup bag be locked and loaded at all times.

    Mini Makeup Forever Foundation

This classic foundation is full-coverage and gives your skin a flawless finish. It’s perfect for your travel bag to get you through your vacation without having to lug your full-size bottle with you.

    Milk The Starter Pack Set

There’s no better way to build your makeup bag than with a set of minis. This set contains the mini Hydrogrip Primer and Setting Spray, RISE mascara, and full-sized Matte Bronzer. All for $28.

    Tarte SEA Power Flex Concealer

This mini concealer is currently on sale at Sephora and is super hydrating. With a near five-star rating, it’s full coverage and glowy.

Rare Beauty Mini Kind Words Matte Lip Duo

You need a lip kit in your travel bag, and Rare Beauty is one of the best. This $20 lip kit is the perfect natural rose tone and is ready to go at all times. It contains both a mini lipstick and lip liner, all you need.

    NARS Mini Orgasm X Blush

The NARS Orgasm blush shade is famous for a reason. This highly pigmented powder in the mini size will last you forever and give you a sun-kissed look year-round.

The INKEY List Winter Skin 101

INKEY List is similar to The Ordinary because they are both affordably priced, effective skincare brands. This set has everything you need while traveling to keep up with your skincare routine: Cleansing Balm, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Retinol Serum, and Caffeine De-Puffing Eye Cream all for $25.

Sephora Collection Essential Mini Brush Set

This $20 set of mini brushes has only the essentials: a foundation brush, concealer brush, shadow brush, and crease brush. It’s only the basics, but you’ll thank yourself when your bag isn’t packed with all of your huge brushes.

Don’t waste your money on Charlotte Tilbury minis when you can get 4x the products for the same price…and happy traveling!

SKKN By Kim is Not Worth the Hype: Here are the products we recommend instead.

You’ve probably heard a lot about Kim Kardashian’s new skincare line, SKKN by Kim.

It first entered the news cycle just by virtue of being Kim’s brand. After shutting down KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance, everyone wondered what Kim was going to do next. Surprisingly, her popular apparel brand Skims gets rave reviews for quality and comfort. So when she launched SKKN, she inevitably made headlines.

SKKN claims to be “an innovative line of uncompromising skincare developed by Kim Kardashian. Through a visionary nine-product ritual, SKKN By Kim delivers nourishment, renewal, and an indulgent at-home experience.” But what is it, really?

The packaging claims to be sustainable but was accused of greenwashing. Womp womp. The nine-piece collection also raised eyebrows for its price range, with products ranging from $43 to $95. The full collection includes a cleanser, toner, exfoliator, a hyaluronic acid serum, vitamin C8 serum, a face cream, an eye cream, oil drops, and night oil. It’s a luxury line, she said in defense, so expectations were high.

Because at this point, celebrity brands are ubiquitous. Even Brad Pitt, who allegedly didn’t wash his face twice a day until his twenties (ew), has a new skin line. So what’s Kim bringing? Just her name? Her beige packaging — which is practically all she brought to her Beats collab?

In SKKN’s press release, she stressed the quality of materials and the dermatology-first approach. “What began as a psoriasis diagnosis became the catalyst for my journey of skin-care discoveries, inspiring me to learn more about my skin and how to care for it,” she said. “Working with some of the top dermatologists and estheticians over the years has given me the incredible opportunity to learn from their expertise, and I knew I had to share my learnings.”

SKKN has been around for a few months now, so we can safely say we’ve had a chance to sit with it and get past the hype to give you a real review.

So is it worth it? Our editors say … no.

Though it isn’t just another flop celebrity brand, there’s nothing special about it. And now, with Rhode Skin making headlines for introducing unique, versatile products at an affordable price point, SKKN products aren’t bringing anything new to the table.

So what should you buy instead? We’re breaking down each reason you might have been tempted to add SKKN products to your cart or your wishlist — and what you can get to scratch that itch instead.

You might think SKKN is reasonably priced…

With skincare, I’m not afraid of paying higher prices for higher quality. But most SKKN products are pretty mid and their ingredients are nothing noteworthy (more on that later). The markups are a result of good marketing and Kim K’s affiliation with the brand. I don’t know about you, but I’m not down with the Kim tax.

Brands like The Ordinary have proven how accessible it is to get high efficacy ingredients at an affordable price. But if you don’t want to do the work of decoding which ingredients at The Ordinary work for you, try brands with lower price points, similar clean ingredient values, and overall better products. We like the skincare offerings from Kosas or Indie Lee

    .

You might think SKKN is prestigious because it’s made by Kim Kardashian…

Hate to burst your bubble, but very few “celebrity” brands are made by the celebrity. I’m sure you didn’t think Kim was in the lab cooking up your cleanser, but she probably wasn’t very involved in much of the ideation process either. She simply wrapped the products in her signature beige with her name on the label. And there’s not much that’s prestigious about that.

And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t heard a single peep from the digital skincare community about any of her products in the past few months. I personally like to buy products that have the prestige of positive reviews. If stores I trust have picked them up, I know I can trust the quality. And if beauty lovers have actually integrated them into their routines, I know they work. I bought the Kosas Serum Spray — which is a novel product and unlike anything else I have — only after I’d heard about it from multiple different sources. And I am loyal to Indie Lee because it’s stocked in clean beauty stores I love and every product I’ve tried has worke. To me, that’s real prestige.

You might think SKKN contains only good ingredients…

SKKN, like many other brands, is actually full of filler ingredients. While it may “be certified clean” (which isn’t a regulated term so has no real value) and gluten free, the ingredients are pretty unremarkable. Nothing sets SKKN apart from any other brand in terms of formulation. And the efficacy isn’t even that strong.

For products with actives like SKKN Vitamin C serum, I would definitely opt for something stronger and better. The Indie Lee CQ-10 Toner is a cult-favorite brightening powerhouse with more complex brightening ingredients. It’s also trusted by stores that specifically ban many harmful ingredients, so there’s more pedigree to its ingredients than a meaningless label.
