  • ‘Greatest con artist’: Donald Trump’s ‘God Bless the USA’ Bibles were apparently made in China, and made him a $6.8 million profit | The Mary Sue

Donald Trump has long wrapped himself in patriotism, from campaign slogans to speeches invoking “greatness” and “faith.” But his cash cow, the “God Bless the USA” Bible, has revealed a cynical truth about how he monetizes both religion and his political brand.

Trump began promoting his “God Bless the USA” Bible edition in March 2024 as part of his presidential campaign. The Trump Bible is printed inside and out with patriotic trimmings like the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Pledge of Allegiance, and even lyrics from Lee Greenwood’s song. And it sells for $59.99 online. If you think that’s ridiculous, a hand-signed version goes for as high as $1,000.

But there’s a glaring, uncomfortable detail that emerged from shipping records. All Trump Bibles were printed in China at a cost of roughly under $3 each. According to global trade and customs data, about 120,000 copies of these Trump-endorsed Bibles were shipped from Hangzhou, China. At less than $3 per unit, the production value of all shipments was roughly $342,000. (via PBS)

The Trump Bible profit margin is 1900%, all thanks to China

If every copy is sold at the minimum list price, the total potential revenue equates to about $7 million. Work the math: printing costs around $3, retail price $59.99, and the Trump Bible yields an astonishing markup approaching 1,900%. Here’s the kicker: Trump built much of his trade agenda around blaming China for unfair trade practices.

Trump has called China a supposed threat to American industry, accusing it of stealing jobs from Americans. At various points, he’s even threatened steep tariffs on Chinese imports. Yet he chose to have his “ultimate patriotic Bible” printed in China. But that contradiction hasn’t been lost on observers.

Once a con, always a con

Social media pointed out the stark hypocrisy of promoting an America-branded religious product manufactured in a country repeatedly castigated. But one user said, “It wasn’t a mistake, Trump knows his MAGA base is too stupid to notice.” Most weren’t surprised, speaking volumes about Trump’s reputation.

“What do you expect? He’s a grifter, and he continues to milk the cult,” one wrote. Another called Trump the “Greatest Con Artist of all time,” while one added, “Once a con, always a con.” Trump’s own financial disclosure shows he personally received royalty income from the project. This includes at least $300,000 reported in licensing fees (via Business Insider).

Some reporting suggests total revenues could push into the millions, depending on overall sales and signed copies. One user joked on this, writing, “By the time his presidency ends, he will be trillionnaire. What amazes me is that there are still people falling for his grifts.” Other responses pointed to a broader irony. If the point of tariffs and trade wars is to bring manufacturing back to the U.S., why not produce Trump’s Bible domestically?

Yet, we got a Bible printed abroad, sold at a massive markup, branded with patriotic language and Trump’s name. Call it what it is: the ultimate grift dressed up in red, white, and blue.

  • Trump Made a Nice Little Profit on Trump-Branded Bibles, a.k.a. His “Favorite Book”

Trump Made a Nice Little Profit on Trump-Branded Bibles, a.k.a. His “Favorite Book”

Despite a long history of engaging in behavior that many Christians would likely object to—from blasphemy to lying to adulteryDonald Trump has managed to convince a not-insignificant number of supporters that he’s the Second Doming of Christ or, at the very least, anointed by God. And it was presumably those people who came out in droves to buy the Trump-branded bibles the ex-president start hawking last year, helping him turn a nice little profit that the big guy himself would have to smile upon.

Yes, according to newly released financial disclosures, Trump has so far made $300,000 on branded bibles that sell for $59.99 a pop, or $1,000 for one with his signature on it. The former president started pitching the bibles in March, telling his followers, “Happy Holy Week! Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the USA Bible.”

In June 2020, as racial justice protests swelled around the country, including in Washington, DC, Trump posed for a photo in front of a church holding up a Bible. Asked by a reporter, “Is that your Bible?” the then president responded, “It’s a Bible.” (The photo op was said to be Ivanka Trump’s idea.)

Not long before that, he declined during an interview to cite his favorite Bible verses, saying: “I wouldn’t want to get into it because to me that’s very personal…the Bible means a lot to me but I don’t want to get into specifics.” Asked if he was an “Old Testament guy or New Testament,” he responded: “Probably…equal. I think it’s just an incredible…the whole bible is an incredible—I joke, very much so, they always hold up the Art of the Deal, I say, ‘my second favorite book of all time.’”

  • Temptations Central

    Temptations Central

This thing with Satan is occupying a good part of my biblical studies lately. I’m encouraged to know that God’s plan is pretty precise and obvious to those who are looking for His Word. I was taken with reading Matthew 4: 1-11 regarding the three temptations of Jesus in the desert after 40 days of fasting. When Satan offers Christ ‘all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; I was shocked at the power the devil has to tempt each and every one of us as we operate on what is essentially his turf.

Remember Lucifer hung out with the Lord in heaven. They were roadies for a while until Lucifer got the big head and was banished to the physical realm. Once Jesus rebuked him for the third time scripture says “Then the devil left Him and angels came and attended Him.” So once Christ withstood temptation, God then delivered unto him all that Satan offered and more. You see that is Christ’s birthright and ours too. So let me get this straight. The devil probably knows the bible better than we do. He understands what tempts us because he knows what pleases God. Remember, they hung out together. Hence I am a much easier target certainly than Jesus Christ was and ruination for me won’t necessarily take the promise of all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. Since I am made in the image of God, perhaps the key to my salvation is surrendering all that I Have and all that I am to Him, He who is my Lord and Savior. By doing so I should be able to put myself into a position to see the devil coming. If I see him coming, maybe I can withstand, for the moment, the need to have my wants and desires satisfied by sacrificing the integrity of my soul for momentary gratification. I understand there is a difference between the temptation to sin and a test of faith. What I’m coming to grips with is how simple it appears to be when looked at from a godly, no spiritual perspective. Once Jesus answered each one of Satan’s successive temptations with Matthew 4:4 “It is (also) written: Man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Matthew 4:7 “It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”Matthew 4:10 “Away from me Satan! For it is written ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”Then the devil left and the angels came.

The key then is to get on the other side of temptation by walking in the Word consciously enough to understand that just saying no to Satan is an absolute guarantee of getting all that you desire and all that you need in this life. What must be overcome however is to realize just how cunning the devil has become in getting one to realize, to forget, to ignore that he is the source of all temptation. When in doubt, call on the name of the Lord and eventually Satan will be replaced with angels ready to attend you. As Jesus said, “Seek ye first the kingdom and whatever it is that you desire, you will have more…”

  • Deception Made Easy

    Deception Made Easy

They say that the single biggest trick of the devil is to get you to believe that he doesn’t exist. Out of sight…out of mind…doesn’t exist…PARTY!!! The reality of this should be more and more obvious as we try to navigate the nuances of life’s little ups and downs. The daily challenge of accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is tough enough without the temptations of sin and the challenges of virtue.

I mean, Eating is good, but according to the bible I read, gluttony is a sin. We talk about everything in moderation, nothing in excess. Marital sex is blessed. All else is considered adultery. Gossip is a perversion of healthy conversation that will eventually destroy the gossiper as well as the gospel. We live in a world of contradictions, or do we?

If you choose to intellectualize God’s Word, then you can rationalize anything, any act or deed. I guarantee you the last thing you factor in your decision-making is whether or not Satan had a hand in it. That fact only surfaces as you are forced to suffer the consequences of your actions when you have to answer the question, ‘Why did I do that?’ The consideration of God, however, usually gets sidestepped as one conveniently rationalizes the conditions of what is right versus what is wrong for that particular moment in time. The call of the world is truly as powerful or more powerful than any drug, thanks to that trick again of the devil.

    About Move the Mountains

Amanda started designing Bible journaling products after she was faced with a very real problem. She saw tutorials about how to create Bible journaling art but nothing about how to use Bible journaling to study and apply the Word of God to one’s walk of faith. After releasing Hearing God, the Bible Study Kit, Amanda’s products, and tutorials started gaining notoriety amongst the faith community.
