  • Ree Drummond’s “Top Secret” Baking Trick Makes Boxed Mix Taste 100x Better (It’s So Fluffy!)

Ree Drummond’s “Top Secret” Baking Trick Makes Boxed Mix Taste 100x Better (It’s So Fluffy!)

Baking the perfect cake isn’t the easiest task in the world, but Ree Drummond has a special secret for making one of the best chocolate cakes you’ll ever have: Using a boxed mix.

Yes, okay, that seems like cheating — but when you watch Ree bake this chocolate cake, you realize that it’s actually ingenious. Instead of worrying about the proper mixture of dried ingredients, Ree makes the process easy by doctoring a box of dark chocolate cake mix with ingredients you likely already have: whole milk, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips. These additions promise a richer, moister cake.

So is her “top secret” cake really that good? I decided to test this chocolate cake and see if it really can pass off as a homemade cake with a very big secret.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a Bundt pan with cooking spray, then set aside.

Next, ignore the instructions called for on the box. Instead, whisk together a box of dark chocolate cake mix, whole milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes, then remove the cake to a cooling rack and let it cool completely.

Once the cake is cool, make a thick ganache by whisking together heavy cream and chocolate chips in a small saucepan. Once the chocolate is melted and the ganache is smooth, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a minute before drizzling onto the cake. Add sprinkles or other toppings if desired.

I am pleasantly shocked at how delicious this cake is. Even before baking this cake, I had a feeling it was going to be good based on how light and fluffy the cake looked in the photos. Once baked, the cake came out clean and held a shape that had me positively in awe.

I was delighted to discover that my assumptions were correct; the cake was, in fact, light and fluffy. The texture isn’t too moist or too dry, and the flavor is exactly what I look for in a chocolate cake. The chocolate chips mixed throughout create tiny pockets of melted chocolate, which give the whole thing molten lava cake vibes.

The only thing I didn’t quite enjoy was the use of chocolate ganache here. Because the cake itself was already so chocolaty (thanks to those aforementioned chocolate chips), I felt the ganache made the chocolate a little overpowering (which is saying a lot for a chocolate enthusiast like myself). I think instead I would have preferred a vanilla drizzle on top to balance out the flavors, and let the chocolate cake really shine in comparison.

I’m sure everyone has pride for the state where they live, but Texans seem to take their pride to a whole other level. Everything is named after the state they love: Texas-style brisket, Texas pie, Texas trash dip, Texas chocolate sheet cake. The list of food favorites seems to never end, and you definitely don’t have to be from the Lone Star State to be an admirer of all the delicious foods it has to offer. And now, thanks to Costco’s line of bamboo serving trays, you can show off your state pride in a deeper way when entertaining — whether for Texas or wherever you live.

Costco is selling a line of “destination” bamboo serving trays that are shaped like every state. That’s right: You can show off your utter love and devotion to your state with a tray that perfectly signifies all of the wonderful things that make your home state so special. The trays feature top cities and destinations, popular highways and routes, and laser-engraved artwork with symbols that make every state unique. Each tray is made of bamboo, making it the perfect board to serve charcuterie and snacks for your next gathering. Honestly, the trays are so cute you won’t want to put them away in a cabinet when you’re not using them. They make an adorable decor moment when set out on the counter against a wall. Each board is priced at $24.99.

Now for the sad news: These boards are no longer sold on Costco’s website, so you have to go to your local warehouse to grab one that fits your state. But if you’re looking for a board of a different state that you love — like your love for all things Texas — then you can actually buy this board over on Amazon as well.

These boards are originally sold through Totally Bamboo, a line of bamboo-based cutting boards and kitchen products. Totally Bamboo sells boards for all 50 states on Amazon at the slightly higher price of $29.99 (gotta love the Costco discount). But this still seems like a decent price to pay if you’re looking for a state that isn’t your own, especially if you want to represent somewhere you love to vacation every year — like a lake up in Minnesota, or hiking in New York.

Trader Joe’s is known for being one of the most affordable grocery options out there, and yet, it’s also one of the best spots to find high-quality items, like a bourbon vanilla bean paste to give all of your homemade baked goods the seriously delicious upgrade they deserve. And now, thanks to Trader Joe’s latest drop of springtime eats, you can yet again grab a jar of their beloved pitted Amarena cherries.

Back by popular demand, the Pitted Amarena Cherries with Stems are a customer-favorite sweet treat. If you’re not familiar, Amarena cherries are small dark, bitter cherries typically grown in Bologna, Italy. They are packed in a sweet syrup that gives your dish a rich cherry-almond flavor. Sold at just $4.49 a jar, these cherries are perfect to have on hand for a little sweet treat in the afternoon, or to top on all of your favorite desserts.

Customers are, of course, raving about these cherries. “[They’re] the best! I buy five every time I find them,” writes one enthusiastic shopper on a post from @trader_joes_treasure_hunt.

Many shoppers are also commenting on their favorite ways to enjoy these cherries, and to be honest with you, we’re taking notes after seeing all these tips. One shopper says these cherries are ideal in a tall glass of lemonade. Another says they enjoy making a Black Forest cake with a mix of these cherries and frozen cherries to balance out the sweetness. TJ’s lovers also say these are great for making cocktails such as an old fashioned, or even homemade sodas. We’re thinking a soda with this cherry-vanilla syrup sounds particularly delicious.

Needless to say, we have a feeling you are going to want to get your hands on a jar before it sells out, especially if shoppers are buying them five at a time. With the way TJ’s cycles through their grocery products, we have a feeling this popular staple won’t be on shelves for long.

Five Below truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Along with adorable springtime mugs and the plethora of cowboy-themed trinkets Five Below has right now, it’s no wonder shoppers keep heading to their local store to snatch all of the fun things. Yet every now and then we can’t help but pause at some of the more elegant items on the shelf, like these flower-shaped cups. They look so stunning that we’re almost convinced they’re not supposed to be at a discount store like Five Below at all.

Sold at the typical price of $5.55, these glasses come in two colors: pink and green. Each glass has a main color with the secondary color at the stem, which means you can still mix and match these cups to make a colorful, gorgeous set. While the tops of these cups are beveled to resemble a flower, it’s the flower-shaped bottom of the glasses we can’t get enough of, with actual petals and a pistil at the center to give this glass the true flower shape. They are made of glass (yes, glass!), and we think they would look absolutely stunning on your bar cart this season. And for an extra bonus, these glasses are dishwasher safe.

These glasses would look particularly remarkable with a sparkling beverage of your choosing. Sparkling wine is always a given, but if you’re looking for something a little more festive and unique, let these sparkling drinks for spring entertaining inspire you. Based on the color of these glasses, we think anything with strawberries would look lovely, like a strawberry gin smash or a strawberry basil margarita.

This blooming glassware is currently not available online, so if you see it at your local Five Below, you’re going to want to stock up before it’s gone!

  • Costco’s New $25 Cooking Find Is Too Brilliant to Pass Up (and Such a Steal!)

I live in a small apartment in New York City, so when it comes to cooking in my tiny kitchen, I have to come to terms with two very important realities: I don’t have enough space to buy all of the kitchen equipment I want, and for the things I do want, I have to get creative when it comes to storage. It’s no surprise that a grill is clearly not on my list of things to have in New York (I don’t even have a patio or backyard space for that kind of luxury), so grilling isn’t part of my normal cooking routine. But thanks to this most recent Costco find, I think that may be about to change.

According to @costcofinds75 on TikTok, Costco is now carrying the Lodge Double Play Reversible Grill/Griddle. It’s made of cast iron and already pre-seasoned, and features two sides for your cooking needs: a ribbed side for grilling, or a flat side for a griddle. It’s just under 17 inches in length and 9.5 inches wide, which, according to Lodge’s product description, is just big enough to fry eight eggs at a time. Yes, eight! You can use it in the oven, on the stovetop, on top of your grill (if you’re lucky to have one, of course), and even a campfire. Sounds like smash burgers and buttermilk pancakes are in your near future.

Now here’s the real catch: Costco is selling this reversible grill for only $25! That’s significantly cheaper compared to Lodge’s original price of $43, or even Amazon’s deal of $30. It’s unclear how long this cast iron beauty will be on Costco’s shelves, so if you’re also on the hunt for some kind of grill or griddle to use in your home, you better run to your local warehouse and grab it ASAP.

It’s almost time to go strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry picking, which can only mean one thing; berry season is coming! We’re dreaming of stacks of pancakes and sugary hand pies and sparkling cocktails with floating fruit — or maybe just snacking on those delectable little fruits themselves. Because who doesn’t love the taste of a freshly-picked strawberry? Thankfully Dollar General understands us, because they’re now selling a container that is ideal for all your berry snacking needs.

Dollar General is selling two different ceramic berry holders; one featuring strawberries, the other featuring blueberries. These containers are white and shaped like little fruit baskets that you would buy at the store or the farmer’s market. They are a square shape and made of ceramic, and only sold for $3 each. These square baskets (measuring at 4.25 x 4.25-inches) are not dishwasher or microwave safe, so you’ll need to wash them by hand.

“I bought the blueberry one a few weeks ago and then bought my mom the same one, they’re the cutest,” writes one shopper on TikTok. “And now I’m planning to stop [at Dollar General] on my way home,” writes another.

Now are these berry holders actually wise for storing your fresh berries in the fridge? As it turns out, berries can spoil faster if they are exposed to moisture, which can build up if they are placed in a sealed, air-tight container. While a vinegar solution can help with keeping berries for longer, it’s also wise to store them in a container that gives the fruit some air circulation. These baskets could be that solution. However, we also think if you have fresh fruit in the fridge sitting in an adorable container such as this, then we have a feeling that fruit won’t last long; you’ll be taking it out to eat in no time.

One of my favorite lunches to eat isn’t really a lunch at all; it’s just a bunch of snacks. When lunchtime rolls around, I love to throw a few things on a plate to eat, which seems a whole lot easier when having to prepare and pack a meal for the day. Put together crackers, cheese, meat, veggies, and dip … and lunch is served. So when I discovered a new large lunch box at Target, I was excited because packing “lunch” just got a whole lot easier.

Posted by @targettherapy over on Instagram, Target is now selling a new large bento box container for just $10. They come in blue or sage green color, and feature eight different compartments. Yep, you read that right; eight! Each container has two large compartments, perfect for a sandwich or a variety of fruits and vegetables, two medium compartments for larger snack items like crackers or strawberries, and four smaller compartments for nuts, dried fruit, and sweet treats like chocolate and mini cookies.

These “snackleboxes,” as shoppers love to call it, are made with BPA-free plastic with a matching lid that sports a clear top so you can see all of your gorgeous snacks on display. The container itself is microwave safe (without the lid), but the entire thing is dishwasher safe, making it easy to wash your new bento box when snack time is over.

This container is the perfect thing to have on hand for all of your road trip, beach, and picnic gatherings you’ll be having as the weather gets warmer. This particular bento box container is probably a little too big for a personal lunch, but hey, I’m up for the challenge. However, if you’d rather something personal-size, there are also smaller bento boxes with two compartments for only $5 that come in that same sage green and blue, as well as cream and terracotta orange.

Amazon has certainly capitalized on customer loyalty with their Prime membership over the years, with perks like free and fast shipping and discounted prices. It only makes sense that a big brick-and-mortar competitor like Walmart would do the same. Walmart+ is a membership program that provides shoppers with benefits including free delivery, shipping, and returns, as well fuel savings and cash back on travel expenses. While these perks are certainly beneficial for Walmart regulars, not everyone can afford the $98 fee a year or even the $12.95 a month, and shipping prices can be hefty for anyone shopping outside of their membership. Instead, shoppers turn to other marketplace sellers to get their groceries delivered to them, which can become a logistical nightmare when it comes to organizing item returns. So Walmart decided to do something about it.

Moving forward, any Walmart items that are purchased from third-party sellers outside of their physical stores or online offerings (such as their website or app) will have to pay a hefty new price for shipping and returns. In their March 2024 Seller Digest, Walmart states this change is due to “changing market conditions.”

Thankfully, Walmart offered a solution for customers of third-party retailers so they can avoid the hefty costs, as well as the logistical headache from Walmart itself. Labeled the Keep It Rule, shoppers have the option to keep the items while still receiving a refund when they initiate returns online or in Walmart stores.

This major change is announced months after another Walmart return policy where customers are required to provide a receipt of purchase when returning an item. Without a receipt, customers still have the option for a full refund in the form of store credit. However, Walmart may have the ability to pull up a receipt that is lost by looking it up with the credit card used for purchase.

The wine glasses have a smooth glass shape, while the old fashioned glasses sport an embossed pattern to give these tumblers some elegant style. All Crofton glasses are made to be dishwasher-safe, so no need to worry about having to handwash each of these. A win-win, if you ask us!

Who doesn’t love a Trader Joe’s frozen food find? From their delicious and simple dinners to their clever sweet treats, the Trader Joe’s frozen food section is stocked with all kinds of scrumptious eats that shoppers can’t get enough of. The discount grocer is always stocking their freezers with new seasonal treats, and it seems there is a new favorite that shoppers are already raving about: the Trader Joe’s Brown Sugar Boba Mochi.

Sold for just $2.99, the Brown Sugar Boba Mochi are individually-wrapped mochi balls made with soft and chewy rice cakes, then stuffed with a boba pearl center. They are gluten-free and come with twelve mochi balls, with two balls equivalent to one serving. In their description, Trader Joe’s says that this sweet treat is a “callback to the beloved boba shop classic” with all of the taste of a sweet boba tea without the straw.

In a review of this product, Natasha Fischer from @traderjoeslist on Instagram says she was surprised that despite the brown sugar flavor of this dessert, the mochi isn’t as sweet as she thought it would be. “I really like this because it’s not too sweet. It definitely has a lot of chewy mochi [texture]… I was expecting more of a gooey boba pearl center.”

Trader Joe’s shoppers have taken to social media to share how much they love this new cheap sweet treat, commenting on how they’ve “been influenced” to go to their local TJ’s and get a bag themselves. One TikToker even comments on how the taste of the Brown Sugar Boba Mochi tastes similar to the Trader Joe’s Non-Dairy Brown Sugar Oat Creamer.

Although it is unclear how long this new Trader Joe’s dessert will be on shelves, it might be worth snagging a bag if you see one; with all of this hype online, we have a feeling this will be another TJ’s gem that is going to sell out fast.

Bottoms up! Costco is not only known for selling high-quality food and home essentials in bulk at cheap prices, but it is also well-known for having a wide selection of beverages to choose from, particularly of the alcoholic variety. The warehouse is actually crowned the largest wine retailer in the world; they sell more than $1 billion in wine annually. So of course, when Costco highlights one of their wine products on shelves, we can’t help but take notice like their recent post about the beloved bottled mimosa.

Sure, a mimosa cocktail is easy to put together — orange juice and champagne in a glass, maybe add in some fresh fruit if you’re feeling festive. But why go through the effort of making the drink if Costco has a prepared bottled mimosa ready to go, and at such a low price?

The Kirkland Signature Mimosa is priced at a shockingly low $7.99, bottled in the typical 750-milliliter glass with a cork. The mimosa is made with real Sicilian blood oranges and Italian sparkling wine, and is marked as 6% ABV. While the serving size is technically three, you could split this bottle between four of you and enjoy your favorite brunch cocktail for less than $2 a serving. What a steal!

Loyal Costco customers, of course, love this bottled mimosa find. “Take all my money,” writes one shopper. “I think we owe it to ourselves to try this in the name of research,” writes another, tagging a friend to let them know about their new favorite Costco find.

On the other hand, some Costco shoppers are saying that the ratio between orange juice and sparkling wine isn’t up to their personal preferences. For those who love a mimosa that is heavy on the orange juice and light on the wine, this might be your beverage. For others who enjoy their mimosa on the boozier side, you may find yourself wanting to top off your glass with a little extra Italian sparkling wine as well.

Dollar Tree is now selling colorful iridescent drinking tumblers with matching straws and lids. They are made of glass and come in four colors: blue, pink, green, and orange. Each glass is tinted to match the color of the straw and lid, which seems to be made of hard plastic. They hold 15 ounces of liquid, perfect for your morning iced latte or evening cocktail for happy hour.

Clever TikTok creators like @kiki_createsgv are also finding ways to craft these glass iridescent tumblers with their own designs, using stickers to make these glasses their own. Given that these tumblers are not dishwasher or microwave safe, your decorations and designs would be protected from damage if you’re merely giving it a gentle wash by hand.

Dollar Tree shoppers are loving these colorful tumblers, praising how they are “so cute” and look gorgeous at such a low price. However, finding these cups in stores hasn’t been easy; shoppers are saying they aren’t easily available to purchase at their local stores. Thankfully, Dollar Tree is selling a set of 24 on the brand’s website for $30, which gives you six of each color. Shoppers say they love these cups so much that they’re buying multiple cases at a time!

These stackable bottle organizers make it easy to create an organized space for really any type of bottle in your home. These shatter-free bottle holders are made with a thick acrylic material. The bottoms of the holders have clawed feet that measure out perfectly to stack well together, creating an effortless stackable bottle holder for your cabinets, your cupboards, or even your bar!

While these bottle organizers do well for those extra water bottles and tumblers in your home, they also make for a cheap wine rack as well. These hold the standard wine bottle size, so if you don’t feel like buying a specific rack for your wine bottles and want to make your own using these bottle organizers and a shelf, Dollar Tree just made it easier.

These organizers are also great for keeping things tidy in your fridge; they give you designated spots to place your bottles of seltzer water and juice, thus making a lot more room for those dinner leftovers. Shoppers also say these are great for organizing beauty supplies in your closet, like hairspray and extra bottles of shampoo, or even a collection of yarn if you love to knit.

Plus, who doesn’t love a deal? If you buy four of these stackable bottle organizers you’re only paying $5!

The weather is getting warmer, which can only mean one thing: Barbecue season is almost upon us! If you love to host your friends and family for dinner parties out on the back patio or lawn, then you’re going to need all of the right supplies — like a new gorgeous pitcher to serve that batch cocktail you’ve been dying to make. So how great is it that HomeGoods has a new pitcher on shelves that is perfect for your summertime hosting festivities?

Originally posted on Instagram by @annafavoritesco, these two springtime pitchers look like they’ve been hand-painted with gorgeous floral designs. The tall pitcher has pink, yellow, and orange flowers, while the round pitcher has a variety of flowers with colorful butterflies and dragonflies. Both pitchers have curved spouts and wide handles for easy pouring, and they look like they are made of glass. “They really are so much prettier in person,” the Instagrammer writes, commenting on how these pitchers really stand out and sparkle. “I am thinking some sangria or fruit infused water would look great in those!”

Unfortunately, these pitchers do not seem to be online, so you’ll have to go to your local Home Goods and dig for it yourself! If you can’t find it, don’t worry — a trip to your local store won’t be a waste; there are a lot of adorable springtime kitchen decor items on shelves right now. Shoppers are loving their selection of flower- and fruit-themed kitchen decor, like these colorful spring-y wine glasses or wine glasses that are actually shaped like flowers.
