Travis Kelce is making good on his promise to support Taylor Swift as she trots the globe for her Eras Tour. Just days after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end won the Super Bowl, he hopped a plane for Sydney, Australia to join Swift at a February show, and since then, he’s ping-ponged between acting and hosting gigs in the U.S. and stadiums abroad, rubbed shoulders with royalty and even took to the stage. On Friday, that support meant a trip to Amsterdam, where Swift was playing the second of a three-night-stand at Johan Cruijff Arena.

Fans first suspected that Taylor Swift’s football-playing partner might be in the stadium when social media users noted that she struck an archer pose similar to one Kelce has been known to strike. Fans have speculated that the move is one of Swift’s famous Easter eggs, this one indicating Kelce’s presence.

Reports that Kelce was in London on July 4, reportedly golfing with teammate Patrick Mahomes, made this hypothesis feel like less of a sure thing, but a couple of eagle-eyed attendees spotted Kelce in the audience and snagged him for photos. Big Yeti was definitely in the Dutch building.

By the time Swift repeated her now-famous edit to the lyrics to her song “Karma,” trading “karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me” for “karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me,” the secret was out. Around then, folks in the stadium caught sight of Kelce’s unmistakable silhouette making his way to the backstage area, briefly diverting attention from Swift’s performance.

Footage posted by social media users shows that the shorts-and-hoodie clad Kelce reappeared arm-in-arm with Swift at the end of the show. This wasn’t a choreographed appearance along the lines of Kelce’s “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” cameo last month, but it felt equally polished.

As the pair strode from the backstage, Kelce raised his arms in an “Are you not entertained?” style entreaty for cheers as Swift waved at the screaming crowd. Then the couple draped their arms around one another and disappeared from view, another chapter in their highly scrutinized romance seemingly written.

Hackers Leaking Taylor Swift Tickets? Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

Proton, the company behind Proton Mail, launched an end-to-end encrypted alternative to Google Docs, seeking to compete with the cloud giant on privacy. We broke down how Apple is taking a similar approach with its implementation of AI, using a system it calls Private Cloud Compute in its new Apple Intelligence features.

In other news, we dug into how the US bans on TikTok and Kaspersky software, despite their national security justifications, pose a threat to internet freedom. We went inside a crash course for US diplomats on cybersecurity, privacy, surveillance, and other digital threats. And we published an in-depth investigation into the origins of the world’s most popular 3D-printed gun, which revealed that its creator was a self-described “incel” with fantasies of right-wing terror.

But that’s not all. Each week, we round up the security news we didn’t cover in depth ourselves. Click the headlines to read the full stories, and stay safe out there.

The giant hack against Ticketmaster may have taken another twist. In June, criminal hackers claimed they had stolen 560 million people’s information from the ticketing company owned by Live Nation. The company has since confirmed a breach, saying its information was taken from its Snowflake account. (More than 165 Snowflake customers were impacted by attacks on the cloud storage company that exploited a lack of multi-factor authentication and stolen login details).

Now in a post on cybercrime marketplace BreachForums, a hacker going by the name of Sp1d3rHunters is threatening to publish more data from Ticketmaster. The account claims to be sharing 170,000 ticket barcodes for upcoming Taylor Swift gigs in the US during October and November. The hacker demanded Ticketmaster “pay us $2million USD” or it will leak “680 million” users’ information and publish millions more event barcodes, including for concerts by artists such as Pink and Sting, and sporting events such as NFL games and F1 races.

The claims appear to be dubious, however, as Ticketmaster’s barcodes aren’t static, according to the company. “Ticketmaster’s SafeTix technology protects tickets by automatically refreshing a new and unique barcode every few seconds so it cannot be stolen or copied,” a Ticketmaster spokesperson tells WIRED in a statement. The spokesperson adds that the company has not paid any ransom or engaged with the hackers’ demands.

Hacker groups are known to lie, exaggerate, and overinflate their claims as they try to get victims to pay. The 680 million customers that Sp1d3rHunters claimed to have data on is higher than the original figure provided when the Ticketmaster breach was first claimed, and neither number has been confirmed. Even if victims do decide to pay, hackers can still keep the data and try to extort companies for a second time.

Despite the breach at Ticketmaster originally being publicized in June, the company has only recently begun emailing customers alerting them to the incident, which happened between April 2 and May 18 this year. The company says the database accessed may include emails, phone numbers, encrypted credit card information, and other personal information.

In recent years, there’s been a sharp uptick in cybercriminals deploying infostealers. This malware can grab all of the login and financial details that someone enters on their machine, which hackers then sell to others who want to exploit the information.

Cybersecurity researchers at Recorded Future have now published proof-of-concept findings showing these stolen login details can be used to potentially track down people visiting dark-web child sexual abuse material (CSAM) sites. Within infostealer logs, the researchers say they were able to find thousands of login details for known CSAM websites, which they could then cross-reference with other details and identify the potential real-world names connected to the abusive website logins. The researchers reported details of individuals to law enforcement.

A Fan’s Guide To Helping Promote The Secret Of Us

    [ad_1]

We’ve got secrets. It’s time to admit that we are deeply in love with Gracie Abrams. Was that really a secret, though? Ever since Gracie dropped her latest project, The Secret Of Us, we’ve been hooked on songs like ‘Blowing Smoke’ and ‘Good Luck Charlie.’ The whole album is a musical masterpiece and our headphones have been working overtime lately.

If you’re a major Gracie fan and want to support her during the album release, here are six ultimate fangirl tips straight from the hive.

    Record Store Selfie

If you’ve been following Gracie on Instagram, you would know that a new trend with the cover art is emerging. It’s simple! Head to your nearest local record shop and grab a copy of The Secret Of Us on vinyl. Then, hold it up to your face and get a friend to snap a photo! Gracie’s head on the cover art should be aligned with yours so that it looks like you have a mega-Gracie head. If your stores are anything like ours, then The Secret Of Us is probably already sold out, but the challenge to find it and get that selfie starts now. Happy hunting!

Dance To ‘Close To You’ Online

Another re-emerging digital trend that has come from the album release is Video Star. If you grew up in the 2000’s like us you definitely know what the Video Star app is. It was TikTok before TikTok even existed. Using fun colorful filters and video effects, you and your friends could create music videos to your favorite pop songs. The app has been gone for a while, but Gracie is bringing it back! To promote ‘Close To You’ she hopped on Video Star and made a fun music video with a friend. We challenge you to do the same!

    @tehegracietehe

i wrote Close To You seven years ago and we made a demo that i posted 20 seconds of and you somehow cared about it enough for us to revisit the song seven years later. Close To You was not initially a part of TSOU — it’s from a different time entirely, we had finished the whole record top to bottom, but i heard you loud and clear. consider this one a bonus track pre-deluxe?? with everyone getting their vinyls this week, i got impatient and wanted you all to have it early. or seven years late, actually. CLOSE TO YOU OUT EVERYWHERE THIS FRIDAY AND ONLY 17 DAYS UNTIL THE SECRET OF US 😭💛💛💛💛💛💛💛

You Can Bet On Anything From The Debate To Marijuana Rescheduling

    [ad_1]

Thanks to online gaming, you can bet on anything from the debate, a coin toss or marijuana’s legalization process.

Betting is very popular, almost 37% of people placed a bet last year in the US and Canada.  And thanks to online betting people are wagering on weight loss, political campaigns, sports coin toss, and cannabis.  Today, you can bet on anything from the debate to marijuana rescheduling.

RELATED: Beer Sales Flatten Thanks To Marijuana

In ancient Egypt, 4000 to 3000 BC, people bet on dice, board games, and feats of skill, such as chariot racing and fencing. It has been popular ever since.  There are crazy things you can bet on, but today there is a big audience betting on the first presidential debate. Regarding the debate, you can bet on who the polls say won (odds favor Trump) and who has the first question (odds favor Biden).

You can also bet on the times Putin is mentioned (even at above or below 6.5 times) and also if Taylor Swift is mentioned in the debate. Niche bets are also on fire. Will Biden freeze for 5 seconds and lose his footing, or will Trump say “bing bong” and hit 5 sniffs in one response?

Marijuana being scheduled this year is another key bet…and has a whole industry anxious for the outcome. One site had a high of 80+% chance to now 46% to being completed in 2024. It is almost even currently with one regarding the Florida recreational amendment whether it passes or not.

“Today, betting is socially accepted and wildly popular. In addition to mainstream sports type stuff, if you know where to look, you can bet on all kinds of wacky things.” say Rep Porter, national Poker Playing champion and CEO of Hi On Nature.

One of the craziest things people are betting about online is alien life and UFOs. This type of wagers has exploded in popularity over the last few years. The following alien bets have seen plenty of action:

  • Here Comes Chappell: The Meteoric Rise Of The Next Blockbuster Popstar

Here Comes Chappell: The Meteoric Rise Of The Next Blockbuster Popstar

    [ad_1]

Popstars have been the backbone of the music industry for decades upon decades. There were OG divas like Whitney Houston and Britney Spears. There were Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Rihanna. But it felt like we were in need of a fresh sound.

Most of our original pop girls are onto ventures like starting beauty lines, starring in films, writing books, and starting families. There wasn’t an immediate need to release albums or tour anymore. So the takeover of male artists on Billboard charts ensued.

Of course, the shine to Taylor Swift will blaze on. But the world grows tired of hearing the same few artists over and over. As always, there’s a bright new, shiny Next Big Thing on the horizon.

The summer of 2024 proves that you don’t necessarily need to be a “new” artist to rise to superstardom. Ever since Coachella, it has become clear that there are two Next Big Things in the realm of pop music:
    Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

Both Carpenter and Roan signed to labels when they were young. You may know Carpenter from opening for Swift on
The Eras Tour or her stint as a Disney star. And you may know Chappell as the opener for Olivia Rodrigo on The Guts Tour.

    About Chappell Roan

    @1824official @chappell roan is taking coachella by storm with these insane vocals 👏🏼👏🏼 #chappellroan #coachella #chappell #goodluckbabe #coachella2024 ♬ original sound – 1824

Chappell has been signed to Atlantic Records since she was 17 – back when she uploaded an original song called “Die Young” to YouTube. Under Atlantic, Chappell released an EP and eventually, in 2020, released “Pink Pony Club.” Not long after, she was dropped.

Everything shifted in September 2023. After being dropped from the label, she remained independent until releasing her debut album,
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, through Island Records.

Come 2024, Chappell toured the album in two parts, captivating fans’ hearts with her wit, her live vocal ability, and her homemade tour outfits that were equally as camp as her music.

In the meantime, she remained in control of her social media accounts. Regularly posting funny TikTok anecdotes, capturing more fans in her web along the way. Although Chappell’s album was receiving rave reviews, we were still a little ways away from the world finding her.

Once she joined friend Olivia Rodrigo on
The Guts Tour (previously appearing as The SOUR Tour opener), Roan’s streams saw a 32% increase. But this was only the beginning.

April 2024 marks the complete juggernaut of Chappell Roan’s career. She’s no longer a best-kept secret. Chappell Roan – who sings candidly about sexuality and celebrates being gay in her drag-inspired makeup, her wild red hair, and her Lady Gaga-esque dedication to dramatics – was about to become the next mega-popstar.

    The Rise Of Chappell Roan

In early April, Chappell released “Good Luck Babe” as the next single from
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. It felt like the start of the rest of her career. Her way of telling the world: here I am to give you the latest, refreshing pop music. And while I’m at it, shine light on the LGBTQ+ community.

The song received 7 million streams in the first week, “Good Luck Babe” became her fastest song to reach 100 million streams in no time. And then came the Coachella performance.

Chappell was set to perform in the Gobi tent. If you’re clued in to Coachella lore, the tents are generally smaller venues compared to the stages. It’s not typically reserved for bigger artists because they draw larger crowds.

However, during Chappell Roan’s Weekend I set, the Gobi tent overflowed with fans and new listeners alike. The world was watching on the Coachella livestream. And thanks to social media, thousands of TikToks and Instagram Reels were sourced and shared to
    millions of viewers.

    @chappellroan It’s me, Karma @coachella ♬ original sound – chappell roan

Chappell Roan caught the world’s attention by being true to herself. Her humility and humor make her relatable – she often displays emotions on stage no matter what they are. Her avant-garde makeup and outfits pay homage to fabulous drag queens and are reminiscent of Lady Gaga in 2010.

And of course, her music brings back a sense of fun to the world. Each song is catchy, daring, and reveals Roan’s true colors. After Coachella, her monthly listener count on Spotify saw a 500% increase to 7 million.

The Year Of Chappell Roan Continues

Since then, the world’s attention is on Chappell Roan. Her monthly listener count sits at over 24 million. She’s dined with new friend Elton John, who shared her album with Ed Sheeran, who also adores it.

@chappellroan @Elton John this was such an honor to talk to you. I look up to you so much and what you’ve done for our community. Thank you #rockethour podcast for having me ♡‧₊˚ full interview in my bios #queertok #artistsoftiktok #eltonjohn ♬ original sound – chappell roan

She took the stage at Gov Ball 2024 inside an apple, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, holding a massive joint…to a massive crowd – bigger than the headliners. She’s as in-demand as it gets right now…publicly declaring she turned down a visit to the White House until there’s liberty and justice for all.

In an audacious performance, Chappell Roan declares herself as “your favorite artist’s favorite artist.” And she’s not wrong anymore. It’s no longer simply an outrageous statement. Simply put. Chappell Roan is a sensation.

She receives acclaim from Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and so many more. And has been candid about struggling with her recent rapid rise to the top – breaking down onstage, sharing with viewers on TikTok that many pop girls are really just as nice as they seem.

@chappellroan♬ original sound – chappell roan

As she continues to grow and flourish in the public eye, Chappell Roan’s bearing up under the burden of pop princess. It’s something she has in common with another rising star, Sabrina Carpenter – who often goes viral for her off-the-cuff comments and sexual innuendos.

A new voice of our generation – Chappell Roan is a breath of fresh air. The people love honesty, they love personality, and they love fine music. Thank goodness Chappell Roan has all three.

  • Why Is Dave Grohl Beefing With Taylor Swift?

Why Is Dave Grohl Beefing With Taylor Swift?

    [ad_1]

Photo: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Foo Fighters

Celeb feuds! They can be iconic, they can be profitable, they can be worked out in the remix. Dave Grohl seemingly tried to start a new feud ex nihilo with Taylor Swift, but she isn’t afraid of a little bad blood. Here’s how Swift reminded Grohl that she also has a band that plays live.

June 22, 2024: Both Swift and Grohl were playing London Sunday — Swift’s Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium (capacity 90,000) and Grohl with the Foo Fighters at London Stadium (capacity 80,000). Onstage, Grohl said, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.” In service of not suffering her wrath, Grohl then said the Foo Fighters call this current tour the Errors Tour. “We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple,” he said. “That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ’n’ roll music, right? You came to the right fucking place.” So just to recap: The Foo Fighters don’t want Swift’s wrath, but they do want to imply that she’s not performing live. Great, good. A well-argued, structurally sound piece of rhetoric.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX is calling off her fans’ chants of “Taylor is dead!” at her shows. “Can the people who do this please stop. online or at my shows,” she wrote on IG Stories. “It is the opposite of what i want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in the community. i will not tolerate it.” Someone really smart and wise said, “It’s just self-defense until you’re building a weapon,” and someone else really smart and wise internalized that lesson!

June 23, 2024: Just like clockwork, Taylor Swift gives a shout-out to her band and dancers during every show, but on Sunday she made sure to add some emphasis. During the Folkmore (Folklore, Evermore, you get it) section, Swift gave a pointed shout-out to the accusations made by Grohl: “Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3.5 hours tonight, they deserve this so much. And so does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.” Is this the perfect set-up for a Reputation re-release?

    June 2024: A Fiery Collaboration

The singer reminisced about her collaboration with Taylor Swift ahead of the release, recounting an eventful songwriting session. The evening began with dinner, wine, and a mutual preview of their upcoming albums, The Tortured Poets Department and The Secret Of Us.

“Something caught our attention simultaneously,” Abrams recalled to Billboard. “We rushed to the piano and began crafting this song… It’s something I used to daydream about as a child.”

During their creative session, Abrams heard a loud thud in Swift’s New York apartment. At first, they thought it was just one of Swift’s cats causing mischief. But as they investigated further, they found out it was actually a fallen candle that had set Swift’s kitchen island on fire. Luckily, Swift acted fast and grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before things got out of hand.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by Abrams, Swift scrambles to find her fire extinguisher to douse a flaming object on her kitchen counter.

“I think we’re gonna die,” Swift can be heard joking in the video as she readies the extinguisher.

“No, we’re not gonna die,” Abrams laughed in response.

June 2024: Taylor and Gracie Sing Us at the Eras Tour

During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show on Sunday at London’s Wembley Stadium, she brought Gracie Abrams onstage. Abrams, who opened for Swift last summer, just released her second album, The Secret of Us, featuring their collaboration on the track Us. Swift mentioned the song came from a night of chatting and wine, turning Abrams’ life stories into music. Swift played the guitar while Abrams played piano during their performance.

Dave Grohl seems to take jab at Taylor Swift: ‘We actually play live’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

Taylor Swift fans are coming for Dave Grohl, after the Foo Fighters frontman seemingly took a swipe at the popstar over the weekend.

Grohl’s comment came Saturday night as he performed at London Stadium in the U.K., on the same night Swift was onstage nearby for her Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium.

Multiple videos shared to social media by concertgoers show Grohl riffing on the name of the Eras Tour.

“We like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour,’” Grohl said. “We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few f–king errors as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live.

“What?!” he continued, as the audience booed. “Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right f–king place.”

However, perhaps aware of how dangerous it can be to rile up Swift’s massive fanbase, he prefaced his comments by saying, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”

Of course, nothing gets by the Swifties, and many took Grohl’s comments as an jab that Swift doesn’t perform live (she does).

“Wow Grohl so washed he has to use Taylor’s name for free pr? Embarrassing thought he was better than that what a shame,” on person wrote on X.

Another shared that they were “disappointed” because Grohl is “usually so kind, positive and a good force in the music industry.”

The ever-classy Swift, who often puts on a masterclass in avoiding beefs with other celebrities, seems to respond to the dig the following night, during her third Eras show in London.

“And so does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.”

Grohl’s comments were additionally surprising to fans, as he’s said in the past that he’s “obsessed” with Swift and her music, and the two have been photographed together on a number of occasions.

Airfield with Taylor Swift’s private jet targeted by climate activists using orange paint

    [ad_1]

Climate activists gained access Thursday to a British airport where Taylor Swift’s luxury plane is stationed and sprayed private jets with orange paint, a day after Stonehenge was hit with a similar protest.

The two activists made it onto the airfield at Stansted Airport northeast of London, climate protest group Just Stop Oil said in a statement.

Essex Police said they arrested two women, aged 22 and 28, on suspicion of criminal damage and interference with national infrastructure.

The pair, named by Just Stop Oil as Jennifer Kowalski, 28, and Cole Macdonald, 22, used fire extinguishers filled with orange paint to spray two private jets, the group’s statement said.

It said they were demanding that Britain’s next government after the upcoming general election legally commit to phasing out fossil fuels by 2030.

In a post on X, Just Stop Oil said, “Jennifer and Cole cut the fence into the private airfield at Stansted where @taylorswift13’s jet is parked, demanding an emergency treaty to end fossil fuels by 2030.”

The accompanying video showed one of the activists cutting a hole in the fence before spraying the paint over the jets.

Swift’s Eras Tour is scheduled to continue with concerts in London’s Wembley Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Swift a focus of protester attention before

Taylor Swift has attracted criticism over her use of private jets.

In 2022, she headlined a list published by British sustainability marketing firm Yard of the “worst private jet CO2 emission offenders” among celebrities.

Her jet flew 170 times in 2022, with total flight emissions for the year reaching 8,293.54 tons, or 1,184.8 times more than the average person, Yard said.

The protest at Stansted Airport came a day after activists sprayed an orange substance on Stonehenge, the prehistoric UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwest England.

Just Stop Oil said two activists had “decorated Stonehenge in orange powder paint” in a stunt that was roundly condemned by political leaders and heritage bodies.

Police arrested two people on suspicion of damaging the ancient monument.

  • Scooter Braun Is Finally Quitting His High School Job

Scooter Braun Is Finally Quitting His High School Job

    [ad_1]

Not to be all “in this economy,” but in this economy, it’s rare to see someone hold onto the same job for more than a few years, let alone 23 of them. Scooter Braun, however, has been a music manager for that long, beginning with, according to him, an Atlanta-based rapper called Cato, when Braun was 19.

On Monday, Braun announced in a lengthy statement on his Instagram that he would be retiring from music management. “Along the way I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of,” he wrote.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Braun, whose retirement announcement came the day before his 43rd birthday, said in the post that he had been “blessed to have had a Forrest Gump–like life while witnessing and taking part in the journeys of some of the most extraordinarily talented people the world has ever seen.”

Explaining his decision to shift gears, he wrote, “For my entire adult life I played the role of an artist manager on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And for 20 years I loved it. It’s all I had known.”

But hold the phone, didn’t he say he had been a manager for twenty-three years? Yeah, about those last three.

“Over the past two years I have been heading towards this destination, but it wasn’t until last summer that this new chapter became a reality,” he wrote. “One of my biggest clients and friends told me that they wanted to spread their wings and go in a new direction. We had been through so much together over the last decade, but instead of being hurt I saw it as a sign.”

Braun did not name the client specifically, but the dots are not so hard to connect: Ariana Grande fired him as her manager last summer, with Puck reporting that the tipping point came when Grande was going through a very public separation from her husband while Braun was on vacation. One guess on the year Grande signed with him originally, and do not pass go, do not collect $200 if that guess is not 2013. Soon after, reports emerged of Idina Menzel, J Balvin, and Demi Lovato also ditching Braun, not to mention Justin Bieber sniffing around for new management. Taylor Swift fans were also familiar with the name, due to the long-simmering feud between the two over the ownership of her masters and the “incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at [Braun’s] hands for years,” as she wrote on Tumblr in 2019. In fact, she has credited his control of the tapes with inspiring her to rerecord her older albums and release the (Taylor’s Version) records. (In response, Braun later said he was “firmly against anyone ever being bullied.”)

Now, in Braun’s words, he’s entering his “father first, a CEO second, and a manager no more” era.

  • We Finally Know How Joe Alwyn Feels About His Breakup From Taylor Swift

We Finally Know How Joe Alwyn Feels About His Breakup From Taylor Swift

    [ad_1]

Over a year after their split, we’re finally hearing Joe Alwyn’s Taylor Swift breakup response. In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the actor addressed their split along with Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, which many fans believe is about their breakup.

When asked if he’s listened to Swift’s album, Alwyn replied, “In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize…This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about. I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.”

He continued, “That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”

“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition,” Alwyn added. “And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”

    Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn

Swift and Alwyn reportedly met at the 2016 Met Gala and confirmed their relationship in late 2017, but they kept things low-key with minimal public appearances and social media posts. Alwyn supported Swift’s music career throughout their time together, even contributing to her albums under the pseudonym William Bowery, co-writing songs like “Exile,” “Betty,” and “Champagne Problems.”

Despite fielding engagement rumors for years, the couple chose to keep their romance private . “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins,” Alwyn told WSJ. Magazine in April 2022. “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say,” he added.

In early 2023, Swift and Alwyn ultimately decided to go their separate ways, with sources suggesting they “weren’t the right fit for one another.” Since then, Swift started dating Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce.

Meanwhile, Alwyn is still keeping things private when it comes to his love life. In his interview with the Sunday Times, the actor was cagey when it came to sharing his dating status: “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now,” he explained. Nevertheless, he insisted he’s doing “really good” overall. As long as everyone’s happy, right?

Taylor Swift Ex Joe Alwyn Weighs in on ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

    [ad_1]

If one accepts as truth that much of Taylor Swift’s newest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, deals with her six-year relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn, his absence from the spotlight seems understandable: the record describes toxic exchanges and painful breakups, with a cast of adult male babies that puts Animal House to shame. But with a prominent role in Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos’s new film, Kinds of Kindness, Alwyn has no choice but to step back into view. And unlike some luminaries who will only agree to interviews with strict topical guidelines, it appears that questions about Taylor Swift remain within limits.

At least they were for an interview with The Sunday Times published today, in which for the first time ever, Alwyn spoke publicly about his breakup with the billionaire singer.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn arrive at Zuma on October 06, 2019 in New York City.

    Jackson Lee

If the Swift song “Dress” is considered a reliable historical document, it appears the couple first met at the 2016 Met Gala. Swift was there because she’s Swift; Alwyn, an early-career actor, was reportedly there as actor Garrett Hedlund’s plus-one. Thus began a six-or-so-year-long relationship (depending on what clues you agree with) with a fairly definitive end point at or before April 2023.

Swift, who was mid-Eras Tour when the breakup news broke, moved on fairly swiftly, first with the 1975’s Matty Healy (also a rumored TPD subject), then with current consort, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. While those liaisons played out on the main stage, Alwyn’s life continued out of the spotlight, with rare public appearances and the occasional cryptic social media post.

Anonymous sources purportedly close to Alwyn have said that he, too, has “moved on” and is “focused on work.” And it’s that work that might force him a bit backward, if this latest interview—which, perhaps understandably, plays up his Swift connection far more prominently than his latest acting job—remains the norm.

Even Alwyn gets it, telling the Times, “I understand people’s curiosity,” when asked about Swift and TPD. And of the album, itself, he says that he “would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.”

“That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain, and the outside world is able to weigh in.”

Looking back on the furor around their relationship, Alwyn says, “You have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition. And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”

Alwyn also suggests that fans and the media have been slower to move on than either he or Swift were. “Look, this is also a little over a year ago now, and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally,” he says.

One thing the relationship did teach him was the need to keep his personal life under as many wraps as possible. “As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodity, and I see no reason to change that now,” he says.

The same goes for whatever is happening in his romantic life at present, which he refuses to discuss. “I’m sure you can appreciate,” he says, “given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now.”

“I have brilliant, authentic people in my life,” he says. “I try and live in reality and away from the kind of online noise of Twitter—or wherever else it comes from—and try and just stay in the moment.”

  • Will Taylor Swift Endorse Joe Biden in 2024?

Will Taylor Swift Endorse Joe Biden in 2024?

    [ad_1]

    Photo-Illustration: Intelligencer; Photos: Getty

Taylor Swift’s political leanings have been a topic of debate for many years now (Swift herself released a whole documentary about it). The Tortured Poets Department singer has a long history with Donald Trump, who practically begged her not to endorse his 2024 opponent. And a troubling number of Americans believe an unhinged conspiracy theory about Biden and Swift rigging the Super Bowl in favor of her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs.

So what’s really going on here? Has Taylor Swift actually endorsed a candidate in the 2024 presidential election? What’s her relationship with Biden and Trump? Could Swifties really decide the election, as some pundits have suggested? Here’s a guide to Swift’s stance on the 2024 election, which we’ll keep updated and packed with Easter eggs that will tell you the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) release date (just kidding).

    No.

Probably! She’s yet to announce her preferred candidate in the 2024 election, but since she endorsed Biden in 2020, it seems likely that she’ll do so again.

Swift hasn’t commented on Biden recently. She made her first public presidential endorsement about a month before the 2020 election, announcing her support for the Biden-Harris ticket with this tweet, featuring a batch of campaign logo cookies:

    Swift told V magazine:

The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included. Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.

I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.

In recent years, Swift has periodically encouraged her social-media followers to vote. After she posted an Instagram message about registering to vote in September 2023, the nonpartisan nonprofit Vote.org recorded 35,252 new registrations on National Voter Registration Day, a 23 percent increase over the previous year.

On March 5, 2024 she encouraged her supporters to vote on Super Tuesday, but she didn’t back any specific candidates.

After confusing Swift for Britney Spears during his 2023 turkey pardon, Biden made clear this year that he does in fact know who she is, and would appreciate another endorsement.

In February 2024, Biden joked several times about working with Swift to rig the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs. He referenced the baseless conspiracy theory — which nearly one in five Americans believe — in his first TikTok and this post-game social-media post:

When Seth Meyers asked the president to “confirm or deny” that there is an “active conspiracy” between him and Swift a short time later, the president answered, “It’s classified.” He repeated the line when asked if she might endorse him again in 2024.

While Biden has tried to play it cool in public, in January the New York Times reported that his campaign desperately wants Swift to get involved in the 2024 race:

… The biggest and most influential endorsement target is Ms. Swift … Fund-raising appeals from Ms. Swift could be worth millions of dollars for Mr. Biden.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, a top Biden surrogate, all but begged Ms. Swift to become more involved in Mr. Biden’s campaign when he spoke to reporters after a Republican primary debate in September.

“Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” he said. “What she was able to accomplish just in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and that they should have a choice in the next election, I think, is profoundly powerful.”

The chatter around Ms. Swift and the potential of reaching her 279 million Instagram followers reached such intensity that the Biden team urged applicants in a job posting for a social media position not to describe their Taylor Swift strategy — the campaign had enough suggestions already. One idea that has been tossed around, a bit in jest: sending the president to a stop on Ms. Swift’s Eras Tour.

She publicly criticized Trump for the first time on June 1, 2019 in an open letter to Tennessee senator Lamar Alexander, urging the Republican to ensure protections for the LGBTQ+ community by passing the Equality Act. She said of then-President Trump:

I personally reject the President’s stance that his administration “supports equal treatment of all,” but that the Equality Act, “in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to determine parental and conscience rights.” No, one cannot take the position that one supports a community, while condemning it in the next breath as going against “conscience” or “parental rights.” That statement implies that there is something morally wrong with you being anything other than heterosexual or cisgender, which is an incredibly harmful letter to send to a nation full of healthy and loving families with same-sex, non-binary or transgender parents, sons or daughters.

Swift kept her political views to herself until the 2018 midterms, when she spoke out against Tennessee Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn (her decision to endorse two Democrats in that election was a major plot point in her documentary Miss Americana). Swift explained why she’d previously remained silent in her Instagram post opposing Blackburn (who went on to win the election):

In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.

As the 2020 election grew closer, Swift voiced her support for the Black Lives Matter movement and criticized Trump several times on Twitter. In May 2020 she promised “we will vote you out in November”:

And in August 2020, she accused Trump of trying to sabotage mail-in voting and said his “ineffective leadership” had “gravely worsened” the COVID-19 crisis:

Yes, on more than one occasion. In January 2020 Swift released the song “Only the Young” to accompany the Miss Americana documentary. The lyrics seemed to make reference to Trump winning the 2016 election and other political issues, like school shootings: “You go to class, scared / Wondering where the best hiding spot would be / And the big bad man and his big bad clan / Their hands are stained with red.”

In October 2020, Swift allowed Representative Eric Swalwell’s Remedy PAC to use the song in a pro-Biden ad and got a personal thank you from Kamala Harris:

While Swift’s 2019 song “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” is less explicitly anti-Trump, she confirmed in a September 2019 Rolling Stone interview that the high-school metaphor in the song is about Trump-era politics:

There are so many influences that go into that particular song. I wrote it a couple of months after midterm elections, and I wanted to take the idea of politics and pick a metaphorical place for that to exist. And so I was thinking about a traditional American high school, where there’s all these kinds of social events that could make someone feel completely alienated. And I think a lot of people in our political landscape are just feeling like we need to huddle up under the bleachers and figure out a plan to make things better.

We know from this clip of Trump quietly driving his Rolls-Royce while listening to “Blank Space,” which was filmed by Melania Trump and posted on her Facebook page, that he doesn’t mind her music.

However, Trump has some issues with Swift herself. The ex-president and the pop star are engaged in a popularity contest (in his mind, at least). Rolling Stone reported in January:

Behind the scenes, Trump has reacted to the possibility of Biden and Swift teaming up against him this year not with alarm, but with an instant projection of ego. In recent weeks, the former president has told people in his orbit that no amount of A-list celebrity endorsements will save Biden. Trump has also privately claimed that he is “more popular” than Swift is and that he has more committed fans than she does, a person close to Trump and another source with knowledge of the matter tell Rolling Stone.

Last month, the source close to Trump adds, the ex-president commented to some confidants that it “obviously” made no sense that he was not named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year — an honor that went to none other than Swift in December.

On February 11, Trump made a desperate attempt to steal attention from Kelce and Swift and convince her not to endorse Biden. He posted this on Truth Social hours before the Super Bowl:

Trump has been careful not to criticize Swift in public. In a November 2023 interview conducted for the forthcoming book Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass, Trump repeatedly called Swift “beautiful,” and questioned whether she’s actually liberal. Variety published an excerpt from the book on June 10:

Trump, usually one to punch back at critics, is smart enough to know Swift’s fame is on another level. “She’s got a great star quality,” Trump says. “She really does.” Trump is effusive as he uses one of his favorite adjectives to describe women—“beautiful”— several times in a row.

“I think she’s beautiful—very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually—unusually beautiful!” It’s her fame, not her songcraft, that fascinates Trump. When asked about Swift’s music, played so frequently on the radio that it’s inescapable in daily life, he says, “Don’t know it well.”

Beyond Swift’s looks, what intrigues Trump the most is the idea— frequently bandied about online before she endorsed the Democratic Senate candidate in Tennessee in 2018—that she could secretly be supporting him. “But she is liberal, or is that just an act?” he asks me. “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”

I tell Trump that Swift is no longer a country star; she’s been making pop music for years. He doesn’t seem aware of this, but he reaches for a different name. “Garth Brooks is liberal. Explain that! How does it happen? But he’s liberal.” Trump trails off. “It’s one of those things . .”

But during a closed door meeting with Republican members of Congress on June 13, Trump reportedly complained about Swift being a Biden supporter:

In 2020, Swift officially endorsed Biden less than a month before Election Day. If she follows that precedent, she might make an endorsement while she’s on a break from The Eras Tour. The European leg of her tour runs from May 9 to August 20, followed by a ten-week break. Election Day is November 5, and Swift’s tour resumes in Canada the following week.

Could the megastar help boost turnout in the November election, especially among younger voters who aren’t that enthusiastic about another Biden-Trump matchup? That’s what multiple commentators have suggested. But PolitiFact poured cold water on the idea:

… it is misguided to assume that Swift’s potential involvement in the race would be a magic bullet with guaranteed results. Experts say it often takes more than a single message or action for celebrity endorsements to move the needle in elections. And younger people could be particularly hard to sway because they consistently chalk up the lowest turnout rates at the polls. An endorsement would draw attention, but her fans already lean left.

On the other hand, Biden did beat Trump in 2020. And betting against the power of Swifties is usually a bad idea.

  • It’s the end of an era: Taylor Swift says Eras Tour will end in December

It’s the end of an era: Taylor Swift says Eras Tour will end in December

    [ad_1]

It’s the end of an Era(s Tour).

Taylor Swift announced Thursday night during her Eras Tour show in Liverpool, England, that her behemoth concert tour will officially end its unprecedented run in December, presumably after her December 6-8 shows in Vancouver, Canada, at the BC Palace.

“This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is gonna end in December. Like, that’s it,” Swift said in a speech onstage during the “Red” set.

“That feels like so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour,” she continued.

Swift said the Eras Tour has “become my entire life” and has “taken over everything,” including her hobbies, which have been replaced with sitting at home and trying “to think of clever, like, acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear” during the “surprise song” set of her show.

From the stage, Swift also acknowledged that Thursday’s show was the 100th on the Eras Tour (on June 13, no less). She called the experience the “most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life, this tour, these moments with you.”

The Eras Tour started March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona and has since spanned five continents. When the tour wraps, Swift will have performed 152 shows. The tour has broken records and yielded (a few versions of) a concert tour movie that broke records in its own right

Thursday’s comments mark the first time Swift has publicly announced an end date to her beloved Eras Tour, which she had been adding dates to over the course of the last year.

It’s unclear what Swift will be up to next, but any true Swiftie knows it’s sure to be enchanting.

Swift continues her European run this weekend in Liverpool, before a rare Tuesday show in Cardiff, Wales, followed by shows in London next week.

Taylor Swift’s changing girl squad — from Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid, to Zendaya and Karlie Kloss

    [ad_1]

Taylor Swift is on top of the world right now as her Eras Tour enters the UK leg. Many people have compared her meteoric success, with Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department, with her 2014 popularity following the release of 1989.

It was a simpler time: Swifties weren’t concerned about masters, Taylor’s Version wasn’t a thing, and Taylor was walking around in a The 1975 shirt. She also had the ultimate girl squad, including Victoria’s Secret supermodels and Ed Sheeran.

The “Bad Blood” music video cemented the girl squad as a piece of history, as the likes of Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar, Lena Dunham and Gigi Hadid all came together for the star-studded music video.

More recently, the singer enjoyed a night out on the town in London’s Notting Hill, accompanied by old friends Lena and Cara Delevingne, as well as some new pals – Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Waller Bridge.

But Taylor has certainly gained – and lost a few friends since the iconic music video came out. Here’s a look at Taylor’s girl squad – then and now.

Taylor’s friendship with Selena is a tale as old as time, as they bonded while both dating a Jonas brother in 2008. Their friendship has only gotten stronger over the years, with Selena calling Taylor her only celebrity friend.

The Girls creator is a big reason as to why Taylor identifies as a feminist. The singer explained in a Guardian interview that being friends with Lena showed the songstress a new approach to feminism: “Without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realise that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so.” Lena doesn’t even seem to mind that Taylor is best friends with her ex, Jack Antonoff.

Taylor counts Gigi as one of her close friends, explaining that the model “has this incredible ability to see all sides of a situation and simplify it for you, to see the complexity of people.” They are often seen spending time together, and Gigi even caught up with Taylor in Nashville on the Eras Tour.

The model became friends with Taylor after meeting during the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and their friendship blossomed as Cara joined Taylor onstage during her 1989 show. Cara joined Taylor during the AFC Championships, as Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs took on the Baltimore Ravens.

    Zendaya

The Challengers star played a key role in the “Bad Blood” music video, appearing to be good friends. However, they haven’t really been seen together since, and fans have speculated this might be because Zendaya reportedly liked some tweets ‘dissing’ the singer during her feud with the Kardashians.

    Karlie Kloss

Taylor’s close relationship with Karlie Kloss has long been subject to speculation from Swifties, as they were once the best of friends. Karlie appeared at several shows during the 1989 tour, and they took photos together on walks.

Fans believe that when Taylor fell out with Scooter Braun over the sale of her masters, Karlie took the famous manager’s side as they had also been close friends. Now, Taylor only follows the model on Instagram, and Karlie was spotted in a distant seat when the Eras Tour hit California, as opposed to in one of the priority seats.

The Haim sisters are close friends of Taylor’s, after opening for her during the 1989 tour. They have since featured on her evermore album with “No Body, No Crime”. They also appeared in Taylor’s “Bejeweled” music video as evil step sisters.

Taylor and Blake are close friends, with the singer naming characters in her track “Betty” from the critically acclaimed folklore album after the actress’ three (at the time) children. The duo can often be seen going out for dinner together, and Blake even accompanied her bestie to the Super Bowl.

    Lorde

Taylor and Lorde seemed to bond as young singer songwriters, with the “Royals” singer spending time on the RED tour with her. Taylor even hugged Lorde during a performance of “22”. But the “Solar Power” singer has certainly had her critiques of Taylor, as she once described being friends with her as being “like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do”. The duo went to lunch and Lorde reportedly apologized for her public comments about the singer.

Taylor and Emma became friends in 2008, after meeting at the Young Hollywood Awards for Hollywood Life magazine. She described her as “a pretty normal girl”, and Taylor once said that Emma gives the best advice after a breakup. Taylor’s song “When Emma Falls in Love” is reportedly about the Oscar winning actress.

  • Kaleah Lee Won’t Pull The Fire Alarm (But She’ll Think About It)

Kaleah Lee Won’t Pull The Fire Alarm (But She’ll Think About It)

    [ad_1]

When Kaleah Lee tells me she only started writing songs during the pandemic, I can’t hide my surprise. Her lyricism has the practiced sharpness of someone who has been honing their craft for decades. And her production — which she does herself in her bedroom — is subtle and simmering with emotion. This is bedroom pop at its peak, but not what you’d expect.

She wasn’t the only one to pick up a guitar, a pen, and a camera during the pandemic. But she’s one of the most deft lyricists to emerge from the confessional-folk, alternative-ambient side of TikTok Music.

Perhaps it’s because she had been writing poetry for years before she set her musings to music. Maybe it’s because her themes are startlingly relevant. Lee sings about getting older, about nostalgia, about yearning for your old life and a new one.

The title of her debut EP, Birdwatcher, comes from a song of the same name. “Thinking with grace about what I’ve become / A birdwatcher,” goes the song’s refrain. Indeed, her lyrics have the sense of being outside yourself, watching your life like you’d watch the birds.

But don’t confuse this perspective for disconnectedness. Her songs jump from embodied descriptions of selfhood to abstractions and meditations on life and growth. Her ability to seamlessly weave personal details with universal emotions makes her music feel intimate and refreshingly full of perspective.

As a student of the school of social media covers, her music is heavily influenced by her listening habits. She cites an eclectic mix of Dijon and Adrianne Lenker as some of her inspirations. And she covers Beyonce’s Daddy Lessons” on stage.

With influences like Bon Iver and Taylor Swift, we won’t be surprised to see Kaleah Lee packing stadiums with her hypnotic vocals, gut-wrenching lyricism, and ever-evolving sound.

Fresh off an intimate show in LA and a few supporting gigs, Kaleah Lee is gearing up to support Del Water Gap on his summer tour. These will be the largest shows Lee has played so far in her career. And while she might joke about pulling the fire alarm, her gradual growth has prepared her for bigger stages.

Popdust talked to Kaleah Lee from her bedroom/production studio, about writing, Taylor Swift, touring, and more.

    Birdwatcher EP Kaleah Lee

    POPDUST:

You started making videos in your bedroom. Do you still record there?

    Kaleah Lee:

Yeah, I don’t leave my house. Get me out. [Laughter] But yeah, I do everything from my room.

    POPDUST:

    So do you self-produce?

    Kaleah Lee

I do everything. My project coming out is the first batch of songs that I’ve made myself fully produced myself. So I mean, I love GarageBand. And yeah, it is all from the room.

    POPDUST:

What’s it like to go from recording alone in your bedroom to performing on stage?

    Kaleah Lee

I’m just always nervous. But I think it’s all been very gradual. Which is nice. Like, I say everything’s scary, but nothing’s super scary. It’s been a nice glide into things. Like my first time performing in front of people was at a coffee shop. I did an open mic. And then after that, I played like a little restaurant show and it was just really small. I like the pace it’s going up because I would get overwhelmed fast. But yeah, I’m loving it.

I toured with Leith Ross last spring. That was my first show-show in front of more people in an actual venue. I was threatening to pull the fire alarm before I went on, like, two seconds before. My managers were like, no, don’t do that. I was freaking out. It depends, I guess on the audience. But Leith has a very warm, welcoming community that supports them. So to have that as my first experience was very beautiful. It made me enjoy it. So almost immediately I was like, Oh, I feel okay here because everyone’s very nice. I didn’t get booed off the stage. So that’s a good sign.

    POPDUST:

    The worst thing didn’t happen.

    Kaleah Lee

Now I know I love performing. I do love it once I’m up there, maybe a couple songs in, and I’m having fun. I’m just still nervous about being watched by people right in front of me. Being perceived. Like, do not perceive me. I’m not real. [Laughter] Having the audience like …right there. It’s crazy, but we’re getting by.

    POPDUST:

Well, you mentioned Leith has a very warm community. Do you feel like you’re on your way to cultivating a similar community?

    Kaleah Lee

I do. And it’s fun to watch. It’s very cool to watch. There’s a solid group of people online that I can recognize by username, which is cool. And like they’ve made group chats and like accounts, and it’s fun interacting with that, and kind of getting to watch it and be in it with them is cool. It’s cool to see a small, little community growing, which is nice. And they all like, just become so close to each other. So I’m like, that’s cool to watch you guys making friends through music and the different artists that you like.

    POPDUST:

How does that influence — if at all — your process? Since you know who your audience is in some ways.

    Kaleah Lee

I don’t want to say I don’t think it does at all. But it’s not a big thing that I think about, I think, when I’m making a song or writing, especially. It’s a very personal thing. It’s something I need to do just to process things. It’s like coping. Yeah, it is very personal. So I think more so after the writing, maybe. When I started doing production, if something sounded different than what I had previously put out, I would think about it a little bit. But yeah, it’s not huge. It doesn’t impact my process, at least not in a negative way. It’s exciting. Just to know that there are people who are anticipating something or wanting to hear something. So that just makes it more exciting.

    POPDUST:

So when you’re writing, you’re not thinking about the audience.

    Kaleah Lee

Fully myself. I’m like, super selfish. [Laughter] But no, if you think about it, it’s really crazy. So not that I’m not thinking about them, but it feels more like just like a coping mechanism. Like, I’m going through it. I’m like, Oh, my God. I’m actually spiraling. [Laughter] I think it’ll be more fun once I’m also just more comfortable in this to be able to let myself have more fun with it.

    POPDUST:

As you write and release snippets online, are those posted when the song is finished? Or is it extemporaneous? Like you wrote it minutes before posting.

    Kaleah Lee

It’s both. When I first started, I would write and immediately share it. I’ve gotten more hesitant to do that as time has gone on. I don’t know if it’s just fear or that there’s more people watching. But it’s definitely a mixture of both. Like, “Where’d the Time Go?” That’s on the EP. I had written it like, a few days before I posted. But some of them are not done at all. So it just depends.

    POPDUST:

Do you ever get feedback from an unfinished song? And people are like, put this out right now. How does that feel?

    Kaleah Lee

That’s encouraging, because I’m like, Oh, you like it? That’s great. But there’s pressure for sure.

    POPDUST:

Do people ever comment on a song that you don’t want to release?

    Kaleah Lee

All the time. I’m like, I don’t want to put that out ever. Actually, I’m gonna delete the video. [Laughter] That’s a little bit hard, because I physically can’t put something out that I’m not fully proud of or fully into. I just feel bad sometimes.

    POPDUST:

What’s the song that you’re most proud of?

    Kaleah Lee

Most of the stuff on my EP, I’m very proud of just because it’s new. But like, I was listening to it the other day — I rarely listen to myself; I cringe for some reason. But I was listening through and the last song on the project called “Wake,” I was like, Oh my god. I like this. I’m proud of this. I think that was like the first song I intentionally wrote also for the project. So there were a lot of emotions, and it was a very specific time. And I think I had fun with the production on that one. It’s a little different. Not too different. But for me, the topic. That one and “The Same” has been a favorite of mine. I think that’s like the oldest song on the project.

The past three singles I’ve put out are on there. And then there’s a few new ones that I haven’t put anywhere. Not even snippets. So that’s gonna be fun. Yeah, I think I like having it be more of a surprise for people. But then I also am like an oversharer. So like, I always want to post them before.

    POPDUST:

How long have you been writing?

    Kaleah Lee

I’ve always written poetry and I’ve always enjoyed writing, since I was young, but never music. That started around like COVID time. So not too long ago, really. I got into it by adding the music to poetry. That was helpful at the beginning. I still do that now. But yeah, it’s fairly new ish music writing, I guess songwriting.

    POPDUST:

The poetic aspect definitely comes through because your writing transcends the personal into the universal. How do you go about writing?

    Kaleah Lee

Every time it’s different. I have to be alone. I have to be in bed, most likely. I’ve noticed that I love riding in cars if I’m in the backseat or in the passenger seat. I’m on a long drive and I don’t need to be talking or anything, I can kind of make a little space for myself. I can get into a little space when I don’t necessarily need to be physically alone but if I feel comfortable enough that I feel alone. But usually it’s my room. I think the process itself, I’ll have things I’ve written or saved in different places — whether it’s my notes app or my journal — or lines of different things and I’ll revisit them if I need to. But a lot of it is like how am I feeling right now? What is going on? And then I’ll go from there. But yeah, it’s different.

    POPDUST:

In terms of your sound, who are your influences?

    Kaleah Lee

I feel like the main or like the biggest, foundational influence of mine has been Bon Iver, since I was a teen I’ve loved his music. It’s just so depressing, but if you relate to that … [Laughter] He’s been a big a big one for me. More recently, I’m so obsessed with Dijon. Totally does not sound like my music at all, but I’m very inspired. I love Adrianne Lenker and Big Thief, huge fan.

    POPDUST:

Do you have a preference? Adrianne herself or Big Thief?

    Kaleah Lee

I listened to more Adrienne I think. And when I started playing the guitar when I was like nine, I loved Taylor Swift. Of course. She was an initial big influence — just to feel comfortable writing about personal things. It was cool to see a young woman doing that. Now I’ve branched out to what I listened to a lot more. So I’m like, this is a new world. Like, I can do so many different things. I don’t have to feel super boxed in, which is helpful, but also kind of scary if you want to change up what you’re doing. I feel like I love everything. Like, I find something from everything that I’m like, I love that. And I can build on that in my own way.

  • Why the pregnancy speculation around Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga is dangerous

Why the pregnancy speculation around Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga is dangerous

    [ad_1]

Sigh. In today’s edition of ‘people are still really obsessed with women’s bodies’, we need to talk about the recent social media frenzy surrounding Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga – all centred around whether or not the women are pregnant. Yes, seriously.

Both were pictured simply not having an entirely flat abdomen – Taylor while performing during her Eras tour and Lady Gaga at her sister’s wedding with a paparazzi’s telescopic lens – and apparently this was seen as an open invitation for the world to question and discuss their fertility status.

TikTok and Instagram quickly became dominated by frenzied speculation about the famous women, with even medical professionals giving their opinion: ‘Is Taylor Swift pregnant? An OBGYN weighs in’ was the title of one video.

Taylor hasn’t addressed the rumours about herself but she has shared a message of support for fellow singer Lady Gaga, who denied the speculation in a TikTok video while referring to a lyric from Taylor’s song ‘Down Bad’: “Not pregnant. Just down bad cryin’ at the gym,” she wrote in the caption. Taylor rushed to the comments to defend the star: “Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body. Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.”

Spot on. The constant and often very public judgement of women’s bodies is totally unacceptable. It reeks of misogyny – I think we can all agree that body shaming disproportionately affects women and girls – and fatphobia. And, crucially, it’s dangerous. We know the negative impact that body shaming has on an individual: it has been shown to exacerbate and even lead to mental health issues including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and body dysmorphia.

What makes this current situation even more sinister is the fact that Taylor has been vocal about the effect that judgement about her appearance has had on her mental health. During an interview with Variety in 2020, she addressed how a tabloid once claimed that she was pregnant as a teenager.

“I remember how, when I was 18, that was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine,” she said. “And the headline was like ‘Pregnant at 18?’ And it was because I had worn something that made my lower stomach look not flat. So I just registered that as a punishment.” In her documentary Miss Americana, she also talked about struggling with an eating disorder, admitting that there have been times when she’s seen “a picture of me where I feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or… someone said that I looked pregnant… and that’ll just trigger me to just starve a little bit – just stop eating.”

Similarly, albeit much less recently, Gaga revealed her battle with bulimia. Back in 2012, while speaking at a conference for pupils in LA, she admitted she used to ‘throw up all the time in high school’, but ‘it made my voice bad, so I had to stop. The acid on your vocal cords – it’s very bad.’

In apparent solidarity of their shared experience, in January 2023, Gaga reacted to a resurfaced clip of Taylor talking about her eating disorder, shared by a fan account on TikTok. “That’s really brave everything you said 🖤 wow”, she wrote.

  • Lady Gaga Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumours, But There’s a Bigger Issue at Hand – POPSUGAR Australia

Lady Gaga Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumours, But There’s a Bigger Issue at Hand – POPSUGAR Australia

    [ad_1]

It’s 2024, but somehow, people are still all about celebrity pregnancy speculation, and Lady Gaga is the latest celebrity to fall victim to such rumours. The buzz kicked off when photos taken at Lady Gaga’s sister’s wedding hit the internet, but Gaga wasted no time shutting the rumours down.

On TikTok, Gaga addressed the rumours with a reference to Taylor Swift’s song “Down Bad” from The Tortured Poets Department. “Not pregnant — just down bad cryin’ at the gym,” she captioned her video.

The video quickly went viral, and Taylor Swift added her support in the comments, calling out the “invasive” comments about Gaga’s appearance.

“Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body,” Taylor wrote on Gaga’s TikTok video. “Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.”

Why Are We Still Obsessed With Speculating About Celebrity Pregnancies?

But why are we still so fixated on these rumours? It’s downright rude to speculate about someone’s pregnancy without their consent. Women’s bodies are constantly scrutinised, and it’s unfair to assume they’re pregnant when they’re not. Why can’t we just leave it up to the celeb to make that announcement before we start speculating?

Take Taylor Swift, for example. She’s been facing similar rumours during her recent Eras Tour shows. Lately, I’ve seen way too many “Taylor Swift is pregnant – that is a baby bump!” videos on social media, and truly, haven’t we seen these rumours about TayTay come and go countless times before?

Related: Vanessa Hudgens Is Forced to Address Pregnancy Speculation – Are We Still Doing This?

The sad thing is, Taylor’s not the only victim. Months before Kourtney Kardashian’s announcement of her pregnancy with Travis Barker, she faced persistent inquiries about her weight gain during her IVF journey. Similarly, Vanessa Hudgens found herself bombarded with pregnancy comments on one of her Instagram posts. Fans even directly asked, “Are you pregnant?” The comments became so prevalent that Hudgens eventually addressed them, clarifying, “Not pregnant so y’all can stop,” accompanied by an eye-roll emoji.

Lately, I’ve seen way too many “Taylor Swift is pregnant – that is a baby bump!” videos, featuring her performing on her Eras tour in a black and red sequin bodysuit. It’s not the only similar post circulating on TikTok and Instagram, and honestly, haven’t we seen these rumors about TayTay come and go countless times before?

    It Needs to Stop

We never know what someone is going through, and that can make rumours like this harmful. Jennifer Aniston has previously spoken about her difficult fertility journey, revealing that she tried for many years to conceive. The actress told Allure in 2022 that she went through multiple unsuccessful rounds of IVF — all while the tabloids furiously speculated that she was secretly pregnant.

“It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” she said.

“All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard,” she continued. “I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favour.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed.”

Celebrity or not, women shouldn’t have to constantly defend their personal lives against intrusive speculation.

In the end, it’s time we rethink our obsession with celebrity pregnancies. Let’s respect women’s privacy and autonomy, and remember that it’s not our place to speculate about their personal lives. After all, wouldn’t we want the same respect and privacy for ourselves?

Taylor Swift is in the comments, fighting for Lady Gaga’s life. In a recent TikTok, Gaga dispelled some pregnancy rumors. She wrote “not pregnant – just down bad crying at the gym” over a video of her showing off a severe cat eye liner. The message of the video then slid into civic duty, as Gaga asked all the little monsters to register to vote. Because of the TTPD reference, presumably, Taylor Swift left a comment in support. “Can we all agree that it’s invasive & irresponsible to comment on a woman’s body,” Swift commented. “Gaga doesn’t owe anyone an explanation & neither does any woman.” Nor does any man or enby, for that matter. Bodies are cah-razy! Best to ignore them completely.

Gaga felt compelled to comment on the pregnancy rumors after pics of her at her sister’s wedding surfaced earlier this week. Her makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, also tweeted in her defense, writing “Why spread a rumor about somebody that you care about or love? It does affect people’s mental health, people should not be body shaming people or assuming they are pregnant when they aren’t!” But we all know Gaga herself had the best pregnancy rumor shutdown of all time.
