Taylor Swift releasing Eras Tour book

    [ad_1]

Fresh off a night out in the Bronx, Taylor Swift announced her foray into a new venture early Tuesday.

This time, she’s an author. Swift will release a new book commemorating her historic Eras Tour, a first for her career, as she prepares to kick off the final leg of her tour this week.

The artist says it will feature her own personal reflections, behind-the-scenes photos and “all the magical memories you guys brought every single night.”

And that’s not all. In addition to the book, she announced “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” will be available on vinyl and CD at Target starting Nov. 29.

“Good Morning America” had the announcement. Teasing it earlier, fans had likely been hoping for a new album release date. They thought they had some Easter Eggs to that effect on a date night with Travis Kelce over the weekend.

Did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Really Grill Blake Lively About Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?

    [ad_1]

Jason Kelce has apparently had it with Taylor Swift’s fans. The retired NFL player accused the billionaire singer’s fanbase of election interference this week, saying that they’re responsible for forcing him into an “agonizing review” of the 2005 coming-of-age film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But just a few days after Kelce’s grumpy announcement, his brother was spotted out with Blake Lively, one of the film’s stars. Coincidence? Perhaps!

The elder Kelce unleashed the allegation this week on the New Heights podcast, the Wondery-based audio product he co-hosts with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The younger Kelce is better known to the non-NFL-curious as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, one of the reasons their goofy, loose, and football-centric podcast has become one of the most-listened in the US.

In addition to gridiron events, family reminiscences, and chatter about important matters such as chicken wings (boneless=bad) and doughnuts (the cake variety are “a waste of time”), the brothers have launched a “film club” for which subscribers vote in tiered polls to choose a movie the pair will watch and review. The first such movie to triumph in the poll was Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, the heartwarming drama that starred Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, and America Ferrera.

The elder Kelce wasted no time in expressing his disappointment. “You will hear the agonizing review of a movie about pants and sisterhood, two of my least favorite things,” Jason complained as his brother laughed. “The Swifties freakin’ dominated the poll.”

“I’m excited to watch this movie,” Travis said in response, a statement Jason met with disbelief. “You’re honestly excited to watch this movie,” he said flatly. “What in the title makes you excited to watch this movie?”

“Jason, I don’t let the title dictate what gets me excited about it,” Travis responded patiently. “Do you know anything about this movie? What is this movie about?” Jason continued to troll. “I don’t know,” Travis responded. “It has Blake Lively in it, and she’s cool.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are seen on October 11, 2024 in New York City.

    XNY/Star Max

It’s a good thing Travis responded so smoothly to his brother’s objections, as just a few days after the podcast dropped, he ended up on a dinner date with Swift, Lively, and Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds. The four were spotted Friday at The Corner Store, a recently-opened restaurant in New York’s SoHo neighborhood with a menu described as “kid food for adults.”

Its offerings likely appealed to Kelce, who also admitted on this week’s podcast that he is too squeamish to eat “anything with a casing,” Creole or Cajun foods including jambalaya, or thicker curries. “I have a mental block,” the 35-year-old said, about “food that looks like it came out of a butthole.” Does that mean The Corner Store’s filet mignon tartare was out, or its spinach artichoke dip? One can only assume so.

Ticketmaster is enforcing new rules around how fans transfer Taylor Swift tickets amid a surge in reported scams.

The ticket sales giant recently updated its website to say ticket transfers for Swift’s concerts can only start 72 hours before the event.

Previously, Swifties could transfer tickets between Ticketmaster accounts at any time.

Representatives for Ticketmaster confirmed the rule but did not respond to questions about the reason for the change.

It comes after a spike in reported hacks to Ticketmaster accounts that have affected Swift’s Canadian fans, as well as ticket holders for other events operated by the company.

Some customers posted on social media that concert tickets they purchased months ago were suddenly transferred from their Ticketmaster accounts without their authorization.

The company said in a statement it is working to “restore fans’ tickets.”

“The top way fans can protect themselves is setting a strong unique password for all accounts – especially for their personal email which is where we often see security issues originate,” it wrote.

“Scammers are looking for new cheats across every industry, and tickets will always be a target because they are valuable, so Ticketmaster is constantly investing in new security enhancements to safeguard fans.”

  • Taylor Swift Will Return to Chiefs Games, Travis Kelce Teasingly Tells Fans

Taylor Swift Will Return to Chiefs Games, Travis Kelce Teasingly Tells Fans

    [ad_1]

Reading headlines about recent Kansas City Chiefs football games, one has to wonder if the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is being held to an unrealistic standard. The singer “snubbed” her tight end boyfriend by skipping recent games, while Kelce “looked miserable” on the field, staring morosely “into the distance,” we’re told. Citing debunked social media rumors of a “breakup contract” between the pair, publications as august as The Economic Times reported that Swift’s absence has spurred betting sites to increase the odds that the pair will part within months. Those bookies might want to have a rethink, however, as Kelce says his famous girlfriend will be back in the stands for his next game, after a two-game absence.

Kelce dropped the news Saturday, during his Kelce Car Jam charity event, a 35th birthday celebration for the athlete that doubles as a car show and fundraiser for Kelce’s Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation. When Kelce stopped at a food tent staffed by workers from Louisiana-based chicken chain Raising Cane’s, one of the first things he was asked was if Swift would be showing up for the party. “She will not be here,” the New York Post quotes him as saying. However, “I know she’s coming in for the game.”

The game Kelce is referring to is Monday night’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints, which will kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. That detail—that it’s a home game, not an away one as the last two were—might hold the key to Taylor Swift’s presence, if recent reports are correct: According to an anonymous source quoted by Page Six, “If she is going to a place that isn’t Arrowhead, there are security concerns” that make her attendance more difficult. “She has worked with Arrowhead so many times, they feel at ease and comfortable. Going to all kinds of different stadiums, you need to send a team in advance,” the source said.

Even if rumors that Swift is eschewing away games out of security fears are pure speculation, it’s speculation based on a certain amount of fact. Given the credible allegations that a terror attack was planned for her since-canceled Vienna shows, as well as influential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s announcement that he hates her, it’s likely that Swift’s already-on-alert security team is under an all-new level of pressure.

That said, let’s remember that the singer also has billions of responsibilities that might keep her from games, including a resumption of her Eras Tour with a three-day stop in Miami from October 18 to 20. One also has to wonder if—as Swift sings in what’s since become an occasional Kamala Harris marching song—her attendance or lack thereof would be as obsessed over if she were a man. For example, following his Super Bowl win, Kelce attended some of Swift’s Eras Tour shows, but he certainly wasn’t there for all of them. It’s likely that some of his absences were related to his Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? hosting duties, or his role in the new Ryan Murphy series Grotesquerie.

But other times, it’s likely he just didn’t feel like getting on a plane! Or he wanted to spend time with family or friends! Or, like so many of us who have lives that extend beyond our romantic relationships, he just had other shit to do. That wasn’t questioned nearly as much as Swift’s whereabouts these past weeks. But as she sings in “The Man,” while men are praised for foregoing social engagements in favor of hustle, work, or “raking in dollars,” women are expected to dress up, take their seats, and smile as though absolutely nothing could ever be wrong.

We can’t see the future, but assuming Kelce’s overhead remarks to a couple of chicken finger vendors were true, we’ll likely see Swift in the stands again Monday night. And, if so, fans would be wise to drink in the view, as Swift’s tour dates will probably keep her from Chiefs games until at least December 15, when the Chiefs play the Cleveland Browns at that team’s Huntington Bank Field. Given those away game security rumors, we might have to wait until Saturday, December 21 to see Swift at a match, as that’s when the Chiefs return home to will play the Houston Texans.

  • Where is Taylor Swift Today, October 6? When is Her Next Show?

Where is Taylor Swift Today, October 6? When is Her Next Show?

    [ad_1]

In the aftermath of Taylor Swift‘s spectacular success on the European leg of her Eras Tour, fans are abuzz with anticipation for her upcoming shows. With her time in Europe behind her, the excitement grows as everyone wonders where Swift will head next.

This article will provide the latest updates on her tour schedule and offer a glimpse into the next exhilarating phase of the Eras Tour.

Where is Taylor Swift today, October 6?

As of October 6, Taylor Swift’s schedule shows no performances for today, leaving fans eagerly awaiting her comeback to the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has significantly boosted her popularity, despite Donald Trump’s claim that she would suffer repercussions for her support. Since her announcement on September 10, Swift has attracted approximately 1.85 million new followers on Spotify, bringing her total to 122.56 million as of October 3. This places her just behind Arijit Singh, who has 123.29 million followers.

While some supporters of Trump have noted a 3% decrease in Swift’s monthly Spotify listeners since her endorsement, this perspective is misleading. The decline follows a period of extraordinary rise after the release of her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024. Swift’s monthly listener count peaked at over 116 million in May, and the recent drop simply reflects a return to more normal listening levels.

When is Taylor Swift’s next show?

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is set to continue at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, where she will delight fans with performances from October 18 to 20, 2024. Gracie Abrams will give an opening performance.

Following her U.S. shows, she will head to Toronto’s Rogers Centre for a week of concerts from November 14 to 23, 2024. The tour will culminate in Vancouver, featuring shows from December 6 to 8, 2024.

Where Is Taylor Swift Today, October 5? When Is Her Next Show?

    [ad_1]

In the wake of Taylor Swift‘s phenomenal success during the European leg of the Eras Tour, excitement is mounting among fans for her upcoming performances. Each concert has drawn massive crowds, leaving fans wondering where will Swift take the stage tonight.

This article will explore the most recent updates on Taylor Swift’s upcoming concerts.

Where is Taylor Swift today, October 5?

Taylor Swift is currently on a break from her Eras Tour, with no performances lined up for today, October 5.

Kesha, who is currently single, recently opened up about how Taylor Swift indirectly played a role in her breakup. In an interview with ELLE, the 37-year-old singer shared that her latest song, “Joyride,” was inspired by a man she had been dating. However, she started to suspect that he was more interested in her celebrity status than in her as a person.

To test her theory, Kesha brought a friend to a party hosted by Taylor Swift instead of him. The following day, he ended their relationship. Following the split, Kesha found solace in self-love, realizing that she was “the one” for herself after years of searching for a soulmate. She expressed that she would only enter a relationship again if someone treated her as well as she treats herself. Kesha emphasized the importance of being your own support system, stating, “I kept waiting for somebody else to fill that space, and then I just stepped into it myself. You got to be all those things to yourself.”

When is Taylor Swift’s next show?

Taylor Swift will return to the stage in Miami on October 18, kicking off a series of U.S. performances that will also include shows in New Orleans and Indianapolis. As the year wraps up, she will travel to Canada for concerts in Toronto, ultimately concluding her monumental two-year Eras Tour in Vancouver on December 8.

  • Halloween Costumes Inspired By Celebrities

    Halloween Costumes Inspired By Celebrities

    [ad_1]

Now that it’s October, I’m accepting that it’s officially fall. I’m leaning into pumpkin-flavored baked goods, I put out my decor, and I’m rewatching old Disney favorites like Twitches.

But also, this means I have to stress over what costume I’m gonna wear. I actually despise Halloween for the sheer fact that I have to wear a costume. I’m great at dressing up (in designer) not (in costume).

It’s a weeks’ long debate that inevitably ends with me struggling to find a last-minute Halloween costume. I do not wear what everyone else wears, probably because I’m a Leo, so I want my costume to be a little niche.

In the spirit of being less of a procrastinator and more proactive, I’ve committed to choosing what I want to be for Halloween now. Yes, early October, so I can take my time and find what I really want to wear.

However, this isn’t easy. If you go to TikTok, there’s a 50% chance that someone else at the party will be wearing the same thing as you. So, you kind of have to relinquish that dream and embrace it.

If you’re like me and trying to find a good costume a bit early this year…let’s get through this battle together. Whether you need a group costume, something for you and your significant other, or just a solo moment, it’s easy to pick a celeb and copy their style as a costume.

Let’s take a look at some of the best celebrity-inspired Halloween costumes for 2024!

    Travis Kelce

For boys, Travis is an easy option for those with a girlfriend who wants them to dress up. I get how it may feel like you have a gun to your head if you aren’t a Chiefs fan, but this is the easier option compared to others.

To be Trav yourself, you just need a pair of jeans, a jersey or Kelce-related shirt. Literally, that’s it. You know what they say: happy wife, happy life! Bonus points if you grow a mustache in time.

Here are my picks for a Travis Kelce Halloween costume:

    Taylor Swift

And for each Travis, there should be a Taylor. For Swift you can go with many different styles — or should I say eras? — depending on your mood. Which is good news for those who hate wearing the same thing as others and bad news for the people who are bad at making decisions.

If you want to go with something matching your Travis, wear a Taylor Swift gameday outfit. But if you want to go with a Classic Taylor, choose one of her tour looks or something fabulous from her music videos.

This is my favorite Taylor Swift Halloween costume:

    Sabrina Carpenter

I’m warning you now: this will be a popular costume this year. Sabrina’s one of the breakout popstars of the year, and as she’s currently still on her Short n’ Sweet Tour, her star is only growing.

To achieve the best Sabrina Carpenter look, all you need are short skirts and corsets…and no costume would be complete without sky-high platform heels.

Capture that me espresso with this Sabrina Carpenter:

    Barry Keoghan

And you can’t have a Sabrina without her Barry! Saltburnstar Keoghan — alongside heartthrob Jacob Elordi — stole hearts in Emerald Fennel’s film…but his relationship with Sabrina has been all we can talk about lately!

The Irishman is known for wearing his signature tracksuits, while also being a bit of a fashion icon himself. If you don’t want to go too crazy this Halloween, I’d stick to a track jacket.

Another easy look is Barry in the Please, Please, Please video. You can achieve this look with these items:

    Rihanna

Rihanna is iconic. She’s had many memorable fashion moments, including that famous flaming red hair. If you’re in the mood to wear a wig, Rihanna is a terrific option. Plus, it’s a solid way to manifest her next album (I hope).

If you’re pregnant, her Super Bowl halftime performance outfit is a great pick! Even better, if it’s how you’re announcing it! But, if you want to be the Fenty founder for Halloween, here are some easy picks:

    A$AP Rocky

You had to have known this was coming. A$AP is Rihanna’s longtime boo and again, another male fashion icon. The duo serve major looks, which shouldn’t surprise you. But that means your A$AP Rocky costume consists of dressing really nice.

Or, controversially, you could be A$AP Rocky in Lana Del Rey’s “National Anthem” music video. If you think that’s the more fun option, here is how you can steal the look:

    Charli XCX

BRAT Summer to BRAT Fall. While Charli baby rages on tour with Troye Sivan, you can channel your inner BRAT queen this Halloween. Charli’s look is a little similar to Sabrina’s, but also a little less girly, and a little more grunge.

So grab a pleated miniskirt and crop a white tee. The Charli XCX look is actually an extremely comfortable Halloween costume that can be recycled on a later date…because I hate buying a costume and never touching it again.

Here are some BRAT outfits for your BRAT Halloween:

    Hailey Bieber

Would it be a celeb-inspired Halloween costume list without queen Hailey herself? New mom Hailey is such a fashion icon and our ultimate influencer. Without Hailey, we probably wouldn’t give a hoot about Kosas Concealer and we definitely wouldn’t have rhode skin.

She has a bunch of stylish outfits you can replicate — and for far less money than Hailey paid. But this is a super simple Hailey Bieber costume:

    Justin Bieber

And to round out the list, we have The Biebs himself. You knew it was coming. And we’ve seen many phases of Justin Bieber, so picking a costume should be a breeze.

Male or female, Justin Bieber is a popular Halloween costume. I’ve seen girls dress up as “Baby” era Bieber and boys dress up as current Justin. Either way, he’s a terrific celebrity to dress up as— especially if you have a Hailey joining you this All Hallows Eve.

Here is a simple Justin Bieber costume:

How American U. students are using Taylor Swift to learn about economics – WTOP News

American University students are using Taylor Swift to learn about economics by examining her star power’s impact on the market. The course offering was initially supposed to be a one-hit wonder, but its become so popular that it will also be taught next semester

Professor and AU Economics Department Chair Kara Reynolds (left) and student course creators Megan Wysocki (center) and Mackenzie Shultz (right).(WTOP/Jessica Kronzer)

American University students are using Taylor Swift to learn about economics by examining her star power’s impact on the market.

On the first day of “Switftonomics: The Economics of Taylor Swift,” Economics Department Chair Kara Reynolds sent students home with kits to make friendship bracelets — except unlike the ones from “The Eras Tour” that were modeled off Swift’s memorable songs, these spelled out economic concepts like “demand” and “inflation” instead.

“I spent the afternoon painstakingly stringing every one on, and it was so nice of her to do that for all the 40 students here,” said student Teddy Gelman.

Those bracelets set the tone for “Switftonomics: The Economics of Taylor Swift.”

As WTOP previously reported, students in the class are applying economics to parts of Swift’s career, including her re-recordings, and of course, her record-breaking Eras Tour.

Two AU students, Megan Wysocki and Mackenzie Shultz, designed the class for a course competition last spring and their concept won.

Wysocki said the course’s subject matter peaked the interest of some students who haven’t taken a higher level economics course before.

“This is getting people’s foot in the door of understanding that economics never stops. It’s everywhere,” Wysocki said.

The enchanted course offering was initially supposed to be a one-hit wonder, but it garnered such a big reputation on campus that Reynolds will teach it again next semester to accommodate students that are hoping to take the course.

“I can’t wait to see the next group. Actually, I would love to teach it forever,” Reynolds said.

Shultz said some of her friends enrolled in the economic prerequisite this fall with hopes of enrolling in Swiftonomics this spring.

“I think people see economics as a scary thing with a lot of numbers and it’s very complicated, but when you kind of pull apart the things that you enjoy out in the world, you can connect those and make it much simpler and more enjoyable,” Shultz said.

What’s going on in the classroom?

Each class is themed after a different Swift album.

“It’s a lot more fun than regular economics,” Gelman said.

Reynolds plays music as students enter. There’s an ice breaker question, such as “What Taylor Swift song describes your feelings today?” before they get down to business. Reynolds then teaches a lecture on an economic concept, such as supply and demand.

During this week’s class session, students learned about externalities from the Eras Tour. The economic spillovers were on the agenda.

“When someone buys a ticket to a concert, they don’t just contribute the economic impact of that ticket,” Gelman explained of the economic concept. “If they travel, if they stay in a hotel, that helps the economy. If they dine out, they are employing workers in that respect.”

The class also looked at the cost of the tour, including possible environmental impacts of the production and concertgoers.

“It’s a very meaningful economic phenomenon, and especially with how she has rerecorded her albums and has disrupted the industry, it has potential to reshape things for years to come,” Gelman said.

Over the past three weeks, Reynolds said the class has also gone over the Ticketmaster scandal that snowballed after the Eras Tour concerts went on sale. And they’ve talked about how Taylor Swift likely prompted the Department of Justice suit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster.

“(In) the first week, we talked a lot about the ‘superstar economy’ and inequality in our society,” Reynolds said.

While the class is partially about friendship bracelets and album listening sessions, Gelman said it also tackles topics such as how the Eras Tour may have helped pulled the U.S. out of an economic recession.

“I would urge everyone who thinks that all this Eras Tour talk is kind of unserious and marginal to reconsider and to think about how it’s really affecting a lot of areas of economic life,” Gelman said.

    Is it working?

There’s a lot of participation during the class, according to student Meg Norten.

“I always look forward to coming to class, and that says a lot, because for block classes that are over two hours long, that’s a hard thing to do for students,” she said.

Unlike other economics classes, Norten said there’s a lot of back-and-forth dialogue between students and their professor during class.

“It is a lot more … focused on just kind of making sure this is a ‘low stress, high learning’ experience for us, so that the pressure’s down, and we all just feel like we can be ourselves and just learn in the way that’s best for us,” Norten said.

The class has attracted those outside of the economics major, including students studying journalism and political science.

“The connections I’ve made and the kind of community I’ve been able to build within the class of people who have the same passions as I do, of Taylor Swift and economics, has been great,” said economics major Callie Morton.

In this classroom, female students are ‘The Man’

The class is nearly entirely made up of female students. Reynolds said that’s notable as only about 30% of economics majors are women.

The field often struggles to attract women. The professor said her students tell her, “When we’re in class, the men really suck the air out of the room.”

“To have a room of women who feel so confident talking out and giving their opinions, has been so rewarding for me as a faculty member,” said Reynolds.

Norten added that Swift is representative of the female experience, having persevered despite her experience with gender inequality and negative stereotypes.

“I think that motivates us, as a largely female class of econ students, in our own field of study in econ where women are underrepresented,” Norten said.

Norten called the popstar a role model who has broken down barriers. She wants people to think twice before mocking Swifties.

“There is something really powerful in Taylor Swift’s story,” she said. “It’s not shallow, it’s not surface level. It’s really inspiring to us. And again, she’s clearly powerful enough that we have a whole econ class on her now.”

A Falls Church, Virginia, jeweler is sleuthing in hopes of confirming whether Taylor Swift was wearing a necklace she tried to gift her — or simply a look-alike — last month.

Paparazzi photos of Swift from Sept. 21 show her wearing a gold necklace that business owner Rachel Harrison believes could be one of her pieces.

“I feel like I’m on cloud nine right now,” Harrison told WTOP.

Harrison has been running the online jeweler Au.RUM DAWN for about a year. In an effort to get the word out about her new business, she reached out to influencers and celebrities, such as Olivia Rodrigo.

“I actually reached out to a good friend of Taylor Swift, who has a following and is an influencer herself, and she happened to respond to my request,” Harrison said. WTOP isn’t naming that celebrity in order to maintain her privacy.

She ended up mailing an order to that celebrity and slipped a necklace and a note for Swift inside the package in late April.

Over direct message on Instagram, Harrison asked the influencer to pass along the gift to Swift on April 26.

WTOP wanted to call Swift up to get an answer to Harrison’s question. Swift’s management firm hasn’t commented whether Harrison’s necklace was worn by the pop star. But that hasn’t stopped Harrison from investigating.

    Could it be the one?

The necklaces do appear to have some similarities. Harrison’s design includes a double bail (most necklaces have just one), which impacts how the necklace sits.

“When Taylor Swift is wearing her necklace too, it kind of hangs in the same way,” she said.

The necklace Harrison mailed is meant to be a nod to Swift’s 2017 album, “Reputation.”

A portrait-cut moissanite stone frames the letter “T” — the font mimics the one used for the album’s cover art, she said.

“It looks like a beautiful picture frame with facets on the side,” Harrison said. “Behind that frame is the letter T.”

In photos of Swift, there appears to be a T-shaped reflection in the stone she’s wearing.

    Easter eggs

The ordeal has Harrison wondering: Was it accidental? Or is Swift a mastermind?

Swift has been known to wear outfits that hint at what rerecorded album her fans can look forward to next. Harrison speculated that wearing her necklace — if it is the same one — could indicate that Swift is rerecording her sixth studio album, “Reputation,” next.

“She seemed to wear it on that night on the 21st of September, where she was also seen wearing reptile, snakelike boots,” Harrison said. “And she had the curly hair that she had all throughout her ‘Reputation’ era.”

    Sleuthing

Harrison has been trying to figure out whether it’s the same necklace.

“I also sent out, like, a snail mail,” she said, sending a letter to the friend who she mailed the jewelry.

She’s also reached out to Swift’s stylist and management.

The Swiftie is not alone in thinking the necklaces look awfully similar. On Instagram, she posted a poll asking whether she was the foolish one or if her necklace could be the one.

Out of more than 100 replies, just three users voted that Harrison was delusional. The rest agreed that it looked to be the same necklace.

“Until there is a clearer photo, I guess one can’t know 100% for sure,” Harrison said. “I’m hoping that she is out and about photographed in it again. That would be best-case scenario.”

If Swift did receive and wear Harrison’s gift, she may have made this fan’s wildest dreams come true.

“I can attribute, like, almost every era of my life with her soundtrack, as well,” Harrison said. “It takes me back to silly high school heartbreaks and feelings of empowerment. … I feel very connected to her in that way, and so I wanted to share that with her.”

Man who smashed $4,000 Taylor Swift guitar with hammer shares why he did it – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

A Texas man who went viral after he bought a Taylor Swift-themed guitar at auction for US$4,000, only to destroy it with a hammer seconds later, says he pulled off the stunt for a laugh and claims there’s no ill will intended.

Gary Estes, 67, garnered the ire of many Swifties over the weekend when video was posted to social media that showed him smashing through a Swift-branded guitar at a charity event.

He’d won the coveted instrument, emblazoned with images of the pop superstar, at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas. Seconds after approaching the stage to retrieve the item, he smashed it with a hammer 17 times.

“Guess we don’t need the wall hanger,” the auctioneer joked before saying, “Hey, Gary, now take that and hang up that busted thing.”

The video, uploaded to TikTok by event attendee JD Cobb, immediately went viral. Many saw it as an act of debasement related to Swift’s recent endorsement of Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.

“We’re in an area (Ellis County) where Trump is pretty prevalent,” Cobb told USA Today, confirming he also thought it was meant as a slight against Swift. “Especially among country type folk, not a lot of people here like Taylor Swift.”

But Estes insists it was just a joke and “nothing mean about it.”

“There was nothing malicious or anything about it,” he told NBC News on Tuesday. “It was just a joke at an auction that we had to raise money for kids, right? And that’s all it was. There was nothing mean about it, nothing bad about it. It was just a joke that they were making up on the stage, and we just followed through with a joke.”

    Story continues below advertisement

However, he did say that he’s a Donald Trump supporter and hasn’t been keen on Swift’s support for Harris.

“Yes, you can connect the dots there,” Estes said.

Auctioneer Craig Meier, a spokesperson for the event, told USA Today he’s been taken aback by the online reaction.

“It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious,” he said in a statement. “He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics…. It was just a funny thing that happened at our annual event. The crowd thought it was hilarious.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Swift’s fans, however, don’t seem to agree.

“These old boys sure are setting an incredible example for their children,” one fan commented under Cobb’s video. “Desecrating a women’s worth. Their wives must be so proud.”

“Bunch of old men mocking a young accomplished woman – compensating for their inadequacy,” wrote another.

Swift fans, however, might get the last laugh in the saga – while initial reports said that the guitar was signed by Swift, sources close to her merch company told Variety the instrument did not bear her signature, nor was it ever used by her.

It appears that the guitar is once again being auctioned off, but this time on eBay. A listing shows a guitar covered in smashed-in holes and promises all proceeds will go to helping local kids participate in agriculture education programs. As of publication, bids for the smashed-up guitar have reached $4,400.

Travis Kelce Is Getting ‘Help’ in This Key Department From Taylor Swift…

    [ad_1]

It looks like pop superstar Taylor Swift might be adding “cooking coach” to her already-impressive resume. The 34-year-old singer has reportedly been giving her NFL beau, Travis Kelce, also 34, some pointers in the homemaking department.

According to Donna Kelce, Travis’ mom, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end could use a little help when it comes to household chores. In a candid chat with Extra TV, the 71-year-old matriarch spilled the beans about her son’s domestic skills—or lack thereof.

“He can’t clean. He can’t cook… (but he’s) getting a little better,” Donna revealed, hinting at a possible influence from Swift. With a wink and a nod, she added, “I think he’s getting some help.”

The “Anti-Hero” singer is currently enjoying a brief break from her record-breaking Eras Tour, having wrapped up the European leg in mid-August. She’s set to hit the stage again in Miami come October. Meanwhile, Travis has been spotted supporting his pop star girlfriend during her performances, most notably at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 23, where the NFL star even donned a tux for a playful skit that had Swift pretending to swoon.

It’s not just mom Donna who’s been dishing on the high-profile couple. Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce, former Philadelphia Eagles center, recently opened up about the challenges that come with dating someone of Swift’s caliber.

Speaking to the “94WIP Morning Show,” Jason admitted, “It’s a lot. There’s a lot of people paying attention at all times, which is positive and negative at times.”

Jason went on to discuss the difficulties of maintaining privacy and living a normal life under the constant spotlight that accompanies Swift’s level of fame. However, he was quick to commend how she’s handled her stardom, noting, “I think that she’s built up such a fan base and a contingency and an amount of people that really, really just, like, love her that it’s really cool at the same time.”

The elder Kelce brother also confessed that neither he nor Travis has ever experienced the intense devotion that Swift commands from her fans. Reflecting on the longevity and impact of her career, Jason said, “When I think of, like, big names in music that have sustained over such a long time, and the way she has (fame), it feels like all of them kind of get to that.” He even drew a comparison to music legend Bruce Springsteen, saying, “She’s at that, like, Bruce Springsteen (level) like, tied.”

Clearly, Taylor is killing the game—and with NFL season underway, it’s her boyfriend’s time to shine, too. But who knows? Maybe on top of being a Super Bowl champ, we’ll see Travis whipping up a gourmet meal and mastering the art of folding laundry in the near future. After all, with a little help from Taylor, anything’s possible.

  • Mondo Ironico #8: Britney’s Formerly “Too Sexy For Children” Looks Suddenly Being Distilled Into Toy Form

Mondo Ironico #8: Britney’s Formerly “Too Sexy For Children” Looks Suddenly Being Distilled Into Toy Form

    [ad_1]

In a series called Mondo Ironico, let us discuss how fucking antithetical something in pop culture is.

For anyone who witnessed the rise of Britney Spears that truly began in 1999 (though her illustrious debut single, “…Baby One More Time,” was released in 1998), it’s impossible to forget that the number one criticism lobbed against her was being “too sexy” for the demographic she was theoretically “geared toward”: little girls, tweens and teenagers. As many pop stars after her would learn (including the likes of Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo), the pressure to remain “Disneyfied” was constant, even after Spears herself was no longer in her teenage years.

The condemnation surrounding what she wore as her success amplified got so out of hand that, after the 2000 VMAs—during which she wore one of her then most scandalous outfits to date (a sheer bejeweled bra top with matching low-rise pants that made for a shimmering nude effect [with help from a coordinating nude thong, naturally] which presaged her literally nude look in the “Toxic” video)—MTV thought it would be a cute idea to make her sit down and watch some of the hot takes from people on the street about the way she dressed.

Some of the comments included, “If I had a little girl, I wouldn’t want her to emulate Britney Spears, you know, if she’s like twelve, thirteen, anything like that,” “Think about those twelve-year-olds that listen to your music and think about the twelve-year-olds who saw you on the VMAs. Think what they’re thinking. They’re probably thinking that it’s okay to dress like that, which it’s not.” To this particular criticism, Spears responded to the screen, “I’m not their parent, man.” Another commenter added, “She’s a role model to little kids and she doesn’t need to dress like that.” The furor surrounding Spears’ body and how much of it she chose to reveal as the 00s went on reached another crescendo when, during her now infamous 2003 interview with Diane Sawyer, the latter knife-diggingly mentioned how Kendel Ehrlich (the wife of then Maryland governor Robert Ehrlich) said, in reference to the way she dressed/was a “bad” role model for her young fans (not the male ones, mind you), “You know, really, if I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would.” Naturally, it came as no surprise that Ehrlich would later serve in the Trump administration.

Conversations around Spears’ body and being “too sexy” gradually began to taper off after 2008’s Circus, when, conveniently, a new batch of pop stars began rising to prominence—including Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift (even if then still in “country” form) and Katy Perry (who didn’t know her peak would cease with Teenage Dream). This wasn’t just because the media was trying to be “nicer” to her after contributing to her very public breakdown in 2007 through early 2008, but because, by pop star standards, she was finally considered day-old bread (she turned twenty-seven the year Circus came out). In the time since then, it has also become less acceptable to make comments about a woman’s body or how she dresses—and now, perhaps even unacceptable to be anywhere near the realm of what Eminem would call a “stan.”

By the same token, female pop stars have seemingly decided to “cover up” in general (with Billie Eilish being one of the first to set this trend during the teenage years of her initial stardom). This phenomenon was crystallized in a 2021 Salon article titled, “From Britney to Lorde: Young women shift from embracing body positivity to body neutrality as teens.” Which, of course, only adds further insult to Spears’ injury—as she seems to be positioned as some “relic” of what pop stardom used to mean when, in fact, she was arguably the last great show(wo)man.

All of this is to say that, after everything Spears endured in terms of the venomous rhetoric about what she chose to wear (or not wear) during the first eight-ish years of her career, some of those formerly salacious looks are now being deemed perfectly suitable to be turned into Fisher-Price Little People. Specifically, Britney Spears is becoming part of the Little People Collector editions that have also extended to the likes of The Beatles and E.T. Obviously, compared to those two, Spears’ Little People renderings are patently more “controversial.” Except that we’ve now entered an epoch where there is really no such thing. In fact, it’s more controversial to be conservative in the present climate than it is to be “liberal” (mind you, if you tear the mask off a liberal, you’re likely to find a conservative). Thus, the ease with which Fisher-Price opted to make miniature versions of Spears in some of her most “notorious” looks is but par for the blasé-about-sexuality course.

Among the looks selected to immortalize in “Little People” renderings is a version of Spears in her “…Baby One More Time” schoolgirl outfit, her “Oops!…I Did It Again” catsuit, her 2001 VMAs “I’m A Slave 4 U” costume and the flight attendant getup from “Toxic” (apparently, they had to stop short at choosing her naked-save-for-some-glued-on-diamonds look from that video)—and yes, these variations of Spears have already been rendered in Funko Pop! form. Her “toy-ification” knowing no limits, which of course has plenty of symbolic implications.

Another irony about the whole thing is that it is precisely because of the decreased interest in sex (all in keeping with George Orwell’s 1984 predictions) that Spears’ formerly “overly provocative” looks are no longer a source of such frenzied “hullabaloo.” In short, no one is really “that interested” in the voyeuristic sensibilities Spears once stoked at a time when the internet’s sexual scope was far more limited. Thus, the sudden “no big deal” aura surrounding Fisher-Price’s decision (or rather, the millennial in charge of said department who likely made it) to turn these erstwhile “scandalous” instances in Spears’ career into toys suitable for “children ages three and up” (a very big range, obviously) is not just a sign o’ the times, but yet another slap in the face to Spears.

Though, hopefully, at the very least, she 1) sanctioned the use of her image for this product and 2) will receive the majority of the money it rakes in. Though that still feels like a small token of “justice” for all the suffering she underwent for her “too sexed-up” persona before it was deemed suitable for distilling into a collectible toy.

  • How To Look Cute This Football Season

How To Look Cute This Football Season

    [ad_1]

As a girl who’s a die-hard football fan, it’s tough out here. I have men who don’t believe that I actually follow the sport and women who complain about having to watch the game in general. Football has been a male-dominated territory for a long time, but Taylor Swift is making groundbreaking changes.

With her regular attendance at Kansas City Chiefs games in support of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, Swift is basically guaranteeing that women will be there for NFL games now…even if it’s only to catch a glimpse of Miss Swift herself.

And even if you’re not a Swiftie, more and more women are watching football more than ever. Whether it’s because your father, brother, uncle, friend, or boyfriend forced you to watch alongside them…or because you and your gal pals started an all female fantasy football league just for fun.

Where I live, Sundays are great days to go out and socialize. Bars are packed with people watching the games, so even if you’re not a fan it’s a fantastic excuse to get out of your house.

Morning Consult Brand Intelligence reported that, in December 2023, 64% of Gen-Z and millennial women held the NFL in a favorable view. The interest surrounding football goes beyond Swift now, and the NFL must do something to continue to capitalize on that.

Yes, it helps that heartthrobs like Joe Burrow exist simply to keep women interested. But what’s more interesting is that women are starting to care about the game itself.

I’m in an all girls fantasy league, where almost no one cared about football beforehand. However now, everyone is super invested in their teams.

But even more critical is looking good during the football season. For so long, the NFL neglected their women’s merch. Even more egregious, all the team apparel for women was hideous.

However, since football has turned over a new leaf…things have improved significantly. Now, it’s about looking trendy this 2024 football season. And I’m here to make sure you do just that.

Here are my favorite women’s NFL apparel picks for 2024:

    Abercrombie

Abercrombie genuinely has some of the best NFL apparel for both men and women. It’s all on-trend, vintage in the right way, and a fan favorite. Seriously, every girl I know has one of the NFL sweatshirts from Abercrombie.

My roommate has this sweater and swears it changed her life because it’s so incredibly soft. Plus, the designs for your designated team are actually cute. Whether you like the quarterback because he’s handsome or because he can escape a sack like a magician…these sweaters are a staple this football season.

There was a time where only a few stores carried women’s NFL apparel. Since we’re in better days, plenty of women-focused stores now sell NFL gear that you’d actually wear.

This American Eagle Dolphins crewneck is oversized in the best way. Fine to wear with baggy jeans, leggings, a nice skort, or just biker shorts a la Princess Diana. An oversized crewneck is a staple for your closet…so make it NFL-themed.

    Junk Food

Junk Food is the go-to for graphic tees and sweatshirts. So it should be easy to find something for your NFL team on this site, because everything is simply adorable.

This thermal is outstanding for everyday wear during the colder months when you’ll be rooting for your fave team (in this case, the Eagles) while still serving looks. Not a fan of the Birds? Don’t fret, they have every team on this site.

    NFL Shop

Vintage is very in right now, which is why this Buffalo Bills sweater by Tommy Hilfiger is a must-have. With a double v-neck and the red, white, and blue trim, this sweatshirt gives the perfect dose of nostalgia.

Order one a few sizes bigger than your normal and you have an excellent oversized sweatshirt for the fall!

    New Era

The perfect NFL baby tee does exist, and it’s sold at New Era. With a simple embroidered cursive font and logo, this baby tee doesn’t have a lot going on. But it works with jeans and a leather jacket for a cute gameday fit.

It’s one of the most popular NFL apparel pieces this season for a reason, so get it while you can!

Where Is Taylor Swift Today, September 15? When Is Her Next Show?

    [ad_1]

Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour has captivated global audiences, leaving a trail of excitement at each stop and making headlines along the way. As the tour continues, fans are eagerly anticipating her upcoming appearances. Many are particularly curious about her whereabouts on September 15, 2024.

If you’re wondering where Taylor Swift will be tonight, we’ve got all the details for you.

Where is Taylor Swift today, September 15?

Taylor Swift is taking a break from her tour on September 15, with no performances scheduled for the day. It appears she is using this time to relax and recharge.

Following Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris which she signed off as “Childless Cat Lady,” Elon Musk fired back with a provocative comment on X (formerly Twitter). Musk, a supporter of Donald Trump, responded to Swift’s political move with a peculiar offer.

He wrote, “Fine Taylor… you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.” His post seemed to reference Swift declaring herself a “Childless Cat Lady.” Musk’s remark quickly went viral, racking up around thousands of likes and replies, ranging from supportive to critical. As of now, Taylor Swift and her partner, NFL player Travis Kelce, have yet to address Musk’s reply.

Elon Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, has publicly criticized her father following his controversial response to Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris. Wilson, who is transgender and has been vocal on social issues, took to Instagram’s Threads to support Swift and denounce Musk’s comment. She described the post as “heinous incel nonsense” and expressed her enthusiasm for Swift’s endorsement while condemning her father’s remarks. (via The Independent)

When is Taylor Swift’s next show?

Taylor Swift is gearing up for a major tour stop at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, starting on October 18, 2024.

The three-night series will run through October 20, featuring Gracie Abrams as the opening act. After her U.S. shows, Swift will head to Canada in November, with the last show scheduled for December 8, 2024.

  • Bill Maher Is Dumbfounded By Taylor Swift’s Influence On Male Voters After Kamala Harris Endorsement

Bill Maher Is Dumbfounded By Taylor Swift’s Influence On Male Voters After Kamala Harris Endorsement

    [ad_1]

Bill Maher might want to pick up a ticket to the Eras Tour on his way to the polls.

On Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the comedian marveled at Taylor Swift‘s influence after she previously announced her endorsement of Kamala Harris and drove more than 400,000 potential voters to the registration site.

“Let’s get to the big news this week,” Maher prefaced. “Taylor Swift finally told people who to vote for. Of course, immediately the response from the other side was, ‘Celebrity endorsements don’t matter.’ People are always so behind on these things. That’s the conventional wisdom for a long time, many celebrity endorsements don’t work… not in this case — I mean, just the number of people who were immediately registered from that Tweet.”

He continued, “And I’m sorry, but we live in Starf—er, America. George Clooney is the one who got Biden to step down. I wrote the exact same editorial he did, and so many other people did too. Nobody cared. As soon as George Clooney said it, he’s gotta go.”

Maher then attempted to unpack a “surprising” statistic about Swift’s fanbase following her post-debate endorsement of Harris.

“This was the most surprising part of it, was who she influenced,” he said. “Swift, it says, would have more influence over male voters — 27% of male voters said they’d be more likely to vote for a candidate endorsed by Swift. I must have this phenomenon gauged all wrong. I thought it would be women.”

Perhaps Maher should invest in a gay friend? They probably would have advised him against making the next joke he did about Swift.

“Now that Taylor Swift has saved democracy by endorsing Kamala Harris, she has one more mission: stop making Travis Kelce dress like a douche,” said Maher in his ‘New Rules’ segment. “I don’t own a cat but I know what it smells like when they mark their turf.”

Swift previously shared her endorsement of Harris and running mate Tim Walz on Instagram. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she wrote.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” added Swift. “I think she is a steady-headed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
