Getting a tattoo for a significant other that you end up breaking up with is a tough spot to be in — typically resulting in painful tattoo removal or some kind of cover-up. But Sofia Vergara found a third, more efficient way to deal with the tattoo she got in honor of her now ex, Joe Manganiello. During her appearance on The Talk this week with her son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara to promote their new show Celebrity Family Food Battle, Vergara bemoaned her son’s 34 tattoos, so he fired back by pointing out that she herself has some ink. One, she explained, was the initial of her late brother, and the other, on her wrist, is a “J.” “This was Joe Manganiello’s initial, but now he’s gone,” she said to laughs from the audience, before explaining, “How lucky can I be that the guy I’m going out with now has the same initial, the new guy. Recycle!” As long as she only dates guys whose name starts with the letter “J,” she’s good to go.
Malik’s chest is covered designs that he’s amassed over the years. He has a skull on each side, wings across his chest, Arabic lettering, and Hadid’s eyes at the base of it all. He has two different pieces of Arabic on his chest, one that says, “Be true to who you are,” according to a Twitter post, and another that is his grandfather’s name, Walter.
The singer’s right arm has a bevy of designs. On his right arm, there is a bandana design wrapped around the top of his arm, near his elbow. Below that, he has the word “chillin” with a little palm tree. In the middle of his arm, he has a hand with its fingers crossed. Beneath that one, you can see a number, and it’s part of his “X Factor” audition number, 165,616, which he has scattered around the arm. Besides the one in honor of the talent show, he’s never explained the meanings behind these designs. ‘s eyes is another mandala tattoo that juts out from what was once a simple design of wings and a skull in the middle of his chest that has been expanded into a larger colored piece. He also used to have a set of lips tattooed on his chest that he’s since covered.
On his torso, he has a filled-in black heart to cover a previous tattoo that said, “born lucky,” in Chinese, as well as a holstered gun on his side. On his ribs, he has a playing card that says, “a pirate’s life for me,” underneath it. He also has “DON’T THINK I WON’T” tattooed on his lower abdomen. While that is a line from the song “Don’t Think I Won’t” by Mark Wills, Malik hasn’t made any public mention of getting the tattoo for that reason.
On Sunday, April 21, a YouTube video was published which seemed to feature clips from a recent Instagram Live of Ray J’s. In the video, the singer showed up-close shots of his face.
The right side seemed to feature a logo of his reality TV network, Tronix, and the name of his son, Epik. Meanwhile, the left side of his face featured three stars and the name of his daughter, Melody.
“Yep, there you go.I look real unattractive now,” he said to the camera, before pointing at the tattoos of his kids’ names. “Melody, Epik… tattoos on my face. That means I can’t do no more movies, I can’t host no TV shows… It’s all in for me now, n***a. I ain’t wearing no makeup, you feel me?”
From there, Ray J revealed why he tatted his face.
“I did this on purpose just ’cause I don’t want another call time,” he explained. “I only want to make the call time. And what better way to do that then decorating your body with what you believe in… I love ’em… I just don’t ever — and wouldn’t even know how to give a f**k. I don’t care.”
Check out the footage below.
The Singer Speaks Out After Sparking Public Concern
Then, on Tuesday, April 23, Instagram account @livebitez published footage from another Instagram Live of Ray J’s. In the clip, he appeared to be in a casino while he spoke to a woman on the stream.
“You see the tatt on my face, right?” Ray J said. “Everybody trippin’, they saying that I’m like, going through some kind of like — I don’t know. I had a few doctors call me and DM me and out of respect, I’m like, ‘Thank you.’ I appreciate the love because, you know, if you worried about me then… please let me know.”
The singer then concluded his stance.
“If I’m falling by the wayside. If I’m like, if I’m going left like, help me go right,” he continued. “And Imma listen, straight up.”
In response, the women told him that she thinks his face tattoos are fire.
“Yeah, I’m about to go get — I’m bout to go finish… some right now,” Ray J replied. “And Imma really go big today. But this s**t — once, I’m done with them, then I think everybody might f**k with them. But if they don’t then, you don’t gotta look at me.”
Watch the clip from the singer’s Instagram Live below.
On Tuesday, April 23, Ray J returned to his Instagram Story to share additional close-up shots of his face tattoos. The photos appeared to show that he added a “P” to the left side of his forehead.
Additionally, the singer captioned the photos with a few cryptic messages.
“DARK TIMES AGAIN 4 YOU OPPS… DESTROY AND REBUILD… PRAY 4 WHATS NEXT… WISH YOU THE BEST… EVIL WILL BE DONE TO THE BAD WHO CHOSE TO DO EVIL TO THE GOOD… POWER – PROFESSIONAL….”
A Brief Recap Of Recent Events Surrounding The ‘One Wish’ Singer
As The Shade Room previously reported, Ray J most recently made headlines in February when his estranged wife, Princess Love, revealed they decided to file for divorce. To note, this is the former couple’s fourth time making the filing.
At the time, Love revealed that despite “reflection, discussion, and counseling” she and Ray J realized their paths have just “diverged.” However, she added that she and the singer were committed to carrying a “positive” co-parenting relationship.
In March, footage surfaced of Love participating in karaoke with friends and John Boyega. The clip went viral as viewers noticed that Boyega had his arm around Love, per The Shade Room.
In response, Ray J reacted to the viral video with surprise.
Earlier this month, the singer reportedly responded to Love’s divorce filing with his custody request regarding their two kids, per The Shade Room. Then, earlier this week, the ‘One Wish’ singer also responded after photos of his lavish gifts to Sukihana went viral.
Think Captain America is as tattoo-free in real life as he appears in the movies? Think again. In October 2020, fans were shocked when “Avengers” star Chris Evans posted an Instagram Story of himself backflipping into a pool, exposing his tattoo-covered torso, but the actor has secretly been hiding away several pieces of ink since the beginning of his career.
Chris Evans’s tattoos have been a hot topic since, but the actor has often spoken about his pieces of body art in interviews. During a June 2014 interview with Hot Hits Live From LA, Evans said: “I’m all for tattoos, but just somewhere they can be hidden.” While most of his ink is covered up by the iconic Captain America suit in all of his Marvel films, some of Evans’s real tattoos have made cinematic debuts in other movies such as “Puncture” and “Cellular.”
After the Instagram Story frenzy, the news of Chris Evans’s tattoos slowly faded but later reignited in March of 2021 when Evans and his brother did a virtual interview with Ace Universe. Fans noticed that Evans had multiple designs peeking out from under his white tank top. Afterward, many people tweeted that the interview was a perfect reminder that not only does the actor have tattoos, but specifically multiple chest tattoos.
Though they’re often covered by makeup or hidden beneath clothes, here’s everything we know about the actor’s not-so-secret collection of body art. (Yes, details about Chris Evans’s chest tattoo lie ahead).
Kulture, the name of his and Cardi B’s daughter, born July 10, 2018, is inked about the Migos rapper’s left jawline. He got this sentimental piece done by the tattooist Bricks, who debuted it on social media in September 2018.
Offset’s “Blessed” Face Tattoo
The word “Blessed” is inked in a black-colored cursive font over Offset’s right eyebrow.
Offset’s Cross Face Tattoo
Offset’s left cheek bears the outline of a cross, representing his religious devotion. While speaking with GQ, the rapper revealed this was the first-ever face tattoo he got. “I got that in jail, too,” he said of the piece, which he shared was painful and has been retouched since.
Offset’s “Kody” Face Tattoo
On the right side of his face, just above his jawline, the rapper got the name of his son, “Kody,” tattooed in cursive font.
Offset’s Eiffel Tower Face Tattoo
Offset got a tiny ink of the Eiffel Tower on the far right side of his face, placed horizontally next to his ear. He got this as a tribute to his late friend, Paris. A light, black-colored letter “P” is also inked near the top of the design.
Offset’s “YKN” Face Tattoo
Placed parallel alongside the Eiffel Tower piece, Offset has the phrase “YKN” tattooed near his left ear. It’s an acronym that stands for “you know nothing.”
Offset’s Angel Face Tattoo
On the left side of his face, Offset has an angel playing a guitar, likely representing his love for music.
Offset’s Hearts Face Tattoo
Two varying-sized tiny hearts are tattooed on the right side of his face, right below the angel piece.
Offset’s “100” Face Tattoo
Located on his right cheek below his eye is the number “100.” According to the rapper, it captures his authentic personality. “Gotta keep it 100,” he briefly explained to GQ.
Offset’s Ribbon Face Tattoo
Next to his left eye, Offset has a tiny ribbon drawn to raise awareness for cancer. The cause is close to the rapper’s heart, as he lost his grandmother to bladder cancer in 2012.
Offset’s “Sallie Ann Smith” Face Tattoo
In honor of his late grandmother, Offset added her name, “Sallie Ann Smith,” over his right brow. The rapper has touched on their close bond in an interview. “She watched me when my mama couldn’t be there,” he said to AndScape. “She was my daddy. She was the go-to person. If I was in trouble with my mama, I’d go to my grandma, and she always got my back if I’m wrong or right.”
Demi Lovato got their first tattoo when they were 16, and they’ve been adding to the collection ever since. Over the years, Lovato has gotten classic one-word designs as well as script tattoos, and as she’s continued in her career, she’s progressed to larger, more realistic portraits on places like their head, ribcage, and even their hands.
Similarly to their tattoo of the word “free,” Lovato’s pieces are known for having a deeper meaning. In January 2022, she revealed a spider tattoo on the side of their head, which she later shared was inspired by the Cherokee folktale called “Grandmother Spider Brings the Light.” “It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things,” Lovato wrote on their Instagram Stories. “She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web – each of us having our place in this world.”
It seems that for Lovato, tattoos act as a testament to life’s experiences, especially as they’ve opened up about their journey to sobriety. Back in 2019, they got the word “survivor” on their neck after experiencing a nearly fatal overdose the year before. Since then, Lovato has added numerous other designs to their body-art collection, so we compiled all of their known ink to date.
Read ahead to see all of Demi Lovato’s tattoos and learn their meanings.
So, you’ve decided that you want to get inked. And now you need to filter through the countless tattoo ideas to find a design you love enough to make permanent. Whether it’s your first time or fifteenth, deciding on a tattoo design can be a lengthy process.
The permanency alone is a daunting prospect (top tip: a tattoo is a bad medium for declarations of love), and then there’s the difficulty of choosing something that will remain timeless and immune to ever-evolving trends. Oh, and throw in the fact that you need to decide on tattoo placement and it’s no wonder the process can be a lengthy one.
Here to help, we’ve rounded up the best tattoo ideas for women – from dainty designs and uplifting quotes, to bold illustrations and graphic symbols. Sometimes, even a single dot will do (anyone remember Phoebe’s tattoo of the Earth “from a great, great distance”, in Friends?)
Where to get a tattoo? Here are the prettiest placement ideas
What are the best tattoo styles?
The answer to this is, of course, subjective. There are myriad tattoo styles out there and what one person likes, another may dislike. But generally speaking, there are a few styles that continue to be popular. Cursive styles, for instance, always look cool – choose a word, phrase or single initial and find a size/font you like.
Flower tattoos are also in-demand and have various meanings, depending on the bloom you pick. For instance, rose tattoos represent love and passion. Other tattoo styles include line art tattoos (where it looks as though the design is drawn in one continuous line) and watercolour tattoo ideas.
Whichever tattoo style you go for, make sure to do your research first to find a reputable parlour and tattoo artist with experience in this style. Plus, find out everything you need to know about tattoo aftercare.
How do I find a meaningful tattoo?
When searching for tattoo ideas, it’s important to find a design that’s true to you. Consider what makes you happy – the lyrics in your favourite song, or maybe a symbol that reminds you of a loved one – person or pet. If you’re not sure where to start, look for visual inspo (Pinterest and Instagram are great for this) and consult a tattoo artist who can help dream up a few ideas based on what you tell them.
Vanessa Hudgens has been hitting mini milestones in her tattoo journey at a rapid pace. As of June 2021, the actor has 10 pieces of ink in her collection, which is rather small – at least compared to her pals Selena Gomez (who has at least 17 known tattoos) and Ashley Benson (who has somewhere around 25 known tattoos).
As far as free-spirited stars go, Hudgens definitely reigns supreme, and her fine-line tattoos match that vibe. She’s the queen of delicate, small artwork. In addition to the sunflower on her side-boob and angel on her other, she’s gotten a phrase in script on her shoulder, the number “22” on the side of her wrist, a couple of finger tattoos, a tiny design in her ear, and a snake on her ankle. Hudgens also has halves of the om symbol on each of her hands – part on one pinky finger and part on the other – so that when she puts her hands together in a meditating position, it forms the whole ॐ symbol. The ink is a bit hard to see, not just because of how small it is; the artwork is from 2011 when she got tatted with long-time bestie Ashley Tisdale.
Hudgens’s most noticeable tattoo happens to be her first: a colorful butterfly on the left side of her neck. The actress got it in 2011 at New York City parlor Bang Bang Tattoo.
We’d like to think that a meaningful, well-thought-out tattoo would look good in any location, but we’ll admit that we’re strong advocates of hand tattoos over here. Getting a design on this area isn’t the most comfortable – they’re actually one of the more painful spots – but you can always count on them grabbing everyone’s attention. No matter what design you get, it’s bound to be the first thing someone notices when you’re talking with your hands or just showing off your manicure.
While hand tattoos can look pretty dreamy on anyone, it’s understandable if you’d want to look at some inspiration pictures before you decide whether you really want to take the plunge. One of our favorite hacks when trying to decide on a new hair, nail, or makeup trend is to look to celebrities who have done what we’re trying to emulate. Luckily for you, there are plenty of Hollywood stars who are big fans of hand tattoos. From Rihanna to Angelina Jolie, there are several stars out there who have been able to bear the pain and walk away from their tattoo artists with some dope designs on everything from their palms to their fingers. If you’ve been thinking about getting a hand tattoo lately – because there is a lot to think about – let these celebrities and their respective inks be your guide.
Consuming marijuana before any activity can make things better. While large quantities of cannabis can make some people anxious, the majority of experienced cannabis users know their bodies well enough to prevent this from happening. But you never really know how you’ll be effected until you smoke and in what situation. So, should you smoke marijuana before getting a tattoo?
Smoking before getting ink can get complicated. While marijuana may relax you for a semi unpleasant experience, it might also make you more anxious and sensitive to pain. Having anxiety while someone’s punching a needle through your skin doesn’t sound like a walk in the park.
First the practical reasons. Cannabis has blood-thinning properties. During a tattoo session, this can lead to increased bleeding, which may make it more challenging for the artist to implant the ink correctly, potentially affecting the quality and longevity of your tattoo.
Although some might think that cannabis could help manage the discomfort associated with getting a tattoo, it can actually heighten your sensitivity to pain. It’s also important to remember that pain is a vital signal that helps us understand if something is not quite right. Dulling this signal can complicate communication about your comfort levels with your artist.
Levi Moodie, owner and artist from The Drifter’s Ink, believes clients should be careful when it comes to cannabis and tattoos. He prefers to tattoo people who are sober, who are clear on their idea of the tattoo, and who really want it and won’t change their minds mid-session.
Moodie shares:
“Oftentimes, people who smoke marijuana go from being cautious, as they should be, to over-thinking their tattoos, flip-flopping on ideas, or their tattoo placement, and then when the needle hits the skin, they can potentially overthink the experience and get freaked out. I’ve seen it happen a few times.”
While you shouldn’t smoke prior to getting a tattoo, you could definitely take advantage of marijuana’s healing properties afterwards. THC is a known anti-inflammatory agent, and it can help lessen soreness and pain during your skin’s recovery process.
As an editor with a lot of tattoos, nothing gets under my skin (no pun intended) more than the thought of a tattoo with a typo. Only a couple of my tattoos feature text, but you can be damn sure I looked at the designs over and over and over before the needle came out. But even when you have two sets of eyes on the stencil — yours and the artist’s — mistakes can still happen. And it seems Cara Delevingne might have just found that out firsthand.
On Monday, September 27, the model and actor shared Italian tattoo artist Matteo Nangeroni’s grid post of her latest tattoo: a stunning dot-work piece of a mask-like, incomplete face above lettering. The words are a definition, which reads, “dormiveglia: (n.) the place that stretches between sleeping and walking.”
There’s just one problem: Dormiveglia is actually the place between sleeping and waking. It’s the Italian word for being half-asleep and half-awake. And the artist’s followers have flocked to the post to point that out in the comments.
“Nooo….you spelled it wrong 😑 it’s supposed to be ‘waking’ not WALKING 😭,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “Walking or waking? Beautiful tattoo though!! ❤️” When someone asked if it was choice or a typo, another commenter said, “Artist claims it was a choice but is deleting other comments calling it out…”
Instagram/Cara Delevingne
Quite a few folks also took issue with the artist having Delevingne pose topless for pictures of an arm tattoo, but she responded to that comment commotion by saying, “Just to be clear to everyone! I chose to take my bra off, the picture didn’t look good with my bra on. I am a perfectionist especially when it comes to photography and I was trying to help make something beautiful. Everyone calm down please. Thank you x,” but she didn’t address the concerns about the wrong word being inked on her for eternity.
Regardless of whether or not it was supposed to be “waking,” hopefully Cara Delevingne loves what is obviously an overall gorgeous tattoo.

Kathy Griffin just underwent a cosmetic procedure. In a new YouTube video, the 62-year-old comedian documented the process of getting her lips tattooed — and shared the initially frightening results.
In the clip, as Griffin walked into her esthetician’s office she told the camera that she was getting her eyebrows microbladed and her lips tattooed, the second of which is called blushing.
After undergoing the procedures, Griffin returned home to her husband, Randy Bick, who exclaimed, “S**!” upon seeing his wife’s lips. Through laughter Bick apologized for his initial reaction, as Griffin admitted, “It’s a little swollen.”
Next, Griffin showed off the work to her friend, Kristen Johnston, telling her, “I’m f**ked. Look at me.”
“What did you do?” Johnston questioned through laughter. “That’s not real.”
With that, fans finally got their first peek at Griffin’s lips, which were swollen and bright red. That fact didn’t stop Griffin from living her life, as she told the camera, “Kristen thinks it’s noticeable, but we’re going to go to the Fourth of July parade. I don’t think anybody will be able to tell.”
Four to six days later, Griffin was totally healed, with her lips no longer swollen and now tinted in pink.
Griffin has had several health struggles in recent years. She revealed she’d been diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2021, and ended up having half of her left lung removed as a result. Griffin announced she was cancer-free in November 2021.

Jen Shah is honouring her family amid her impending prison sentence. “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star, who is due to surrender herself to prison on Feb. 17, took to her Instagram Stories Wednesday to show off two tattoos she got in honour of her husband, Sharrieff, and their two sons, Sharrieff Jr. and Omar.
The first tattoo Shah shared appears on her forearm and features the word, “Keiki,” which means child in Hawaiian. A second photo shows the inside of her arm, which has her husband’s and sons’ names written out in cursive.
“Sharrieff, Omar, Sharrieff,” the tattoo reads.

The ink comes just one month after Shah was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, plus five years of supervised release for her alleged involvement in a money laundering scheme.
After the sentence was handed down last month, the 49-year-old tearfully apologized to her husband, and her two sons, who, according to ABC News, were seated behind her.
“I am profoundly and deeply sorry,” Shah said, the news outlet reported.
ABC News also reported that Judge Sidney Stein relayed he was “a little concerned” that the Housewives’ manager was in the courtroom and warned her against trying to profit from her crime. The judge also urged her to focus on restitution to the victims involved. ABC News also reported that the judge questioned whether Shah was still selling “Free Jen” or “Justice for Jen” merchandise, but the judge was told the merchandise was taken down from her website and proceeds from prior sales would be used to pay restitution.
“With today’s sentence, Jennifer Shah finally faces the consequences of the many years she spent targeting vulnerable, elderly victims,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. “These individuals were lured in by false promises of financial security, but in reality, Shah and her co-conspirators defrauded them out of their savings and left them with nothing to show for it. This conviction and sentence demonstrate once again that we will continue to vigorously protect victims of financial fraud and hold accountable those who engage in fraudulent schemes.”
Back in July 2022, the reality star appeared in Manhattan federal court and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing. The second count, conspiracy to commit money laundering, was dropped at the time.
Before your tattoo appointment, you should be sure to stay out of the sun as much as possible. “Dry or burnt/peeling skin can seriously interfere with the tattooing process,” says Harris. Keep skin extra moisturized a few days before so that you can receive ink more easily.
As for other things to consider before your tattoo appointment, Harris recommends showering beforehand and avoiding drugs, alcohol, and high-intensity workouts for 24 to 48 hours before and after. “We also highly recommend getting a good night’s sleep the evening before and eating a healthy and filling meal at least three hours in advance,” says Harris.
The ink itself is a major feat. Josh Sakhai, co-founder of Ephemeral, explains that the ink took six years of research and development to make and has gone through many different iterations since. You can also feel good about what’s going onto your skin. “Every single one of the materials in our ink is already FDA approved for use in medical devices, cosmetics, and drugs,” Sakhai says. “No tattoo ink is approved or regulated by the FDA. That being said, we took a ton of precautions because for us, that’s super important.”
Though it penetrates the dermis, or the inner layer of your skin, just like a normal tattoo, the ink has some major differences that make it special. “Permanent tattoos basically clump together and aggregate and become these larger blocks of ink that are too big for your body to remove,” Sakhai says. “So they stay permanent. Ephemeral ink does something similar and goes into your skin and clumps together, but our ink is made of biodegradable components that break down over time, and as [they] break down, your body’s able to remove them.”
For now, Ephemeral only has black ink, but Sakhai says other colors are on the horizon. Once the ink is mixed, it’s loaded into a tattoo pen.

After Kanye West, A.K.A. Ye, made antisemitic statements and false claims about George Floyd’s killing, a London-based tattoo parlor announced on Instagram that it would remove West-related tattoos for free.
Naama Tattoo parlor said its offer to remove tattoos of the controversial rapper was a “natural extension” of its “second chances” project, which offers free tattoo laser removal to people seeking to rid themselves of certain types of ink — gang tats or an ex’s name. The procedure, which can cost roughly $2,400 elsewhere, has prompted several customers to contact Naama about having their Ye tattoos lasered off.
“We understand that tattoos can be triggering for some people and not everyone can afford to remove their tattoos,” the company told The Washington Post in an email Thursday. It noted that one of the people who took them up on the offer said she was being trolled for her Ye-inspired tattoo.
The store said several people have contacted it in recent weeks to have their Ye tattoos lasered off — a procedure that can cost up to 2,000 pounds (about $2,400).
Ye was dropped by brands including Adidas and Gap and locked out of his Twitter and Instagram accounts over his past comments and posts. On Thursday, he appeared on Alex Jones’s Infowarsclad in a full-head balaclava. He doubled down on his past statements, telling Jones, “I like Hitler,” and, “Every human being has value that they brought to the table, especially Hitler.”
Naama told the Post that “there are a few former fans with tattoo regret,” stating that three clients are already in the middle of the tattoo removal process, and ten more are ready for consultations. Following Ye’s comments on Infowars, that number seems likely to rise.

“Music is a huge passion of ours, and we want to give back to the community that has inspired us so much throughout the years,” said an executive from Inked Cover Girl. “This year has been a challenge for everyone, but with fewer music performances in the world right now, many people have been out of work for months, and they need our help now more than ever. We are really looking forward to the opportunity to help the music community this year, and we know that MusiCares is a great place to start.”
