  • Vishal and Sundar C’s New Film Gets Titled Purushan | Filmfare.com

Sundar C and Vishal are all set to extend one of Tamil cinema’s most reliable partnerships with their upcoming film Purushan. This marks their fourth collaboration after Aambala in 2015, Action in 2019 and Madha Gaja Raja, which finally saw the light of day in 2025 after a long delay. The new title was officially revealed through a stylish promo that not only announced the film’s name but also dropped a major casting update.

Tamannaah has been confirmed as the leading lady, bringing back the popular Action trio of Vishal, Sundar C and Tamannaah for the second time. For Tamannaah, Purushan becomes her third collaboration with Sundar C after Action and Aranmanai 4 in 2024, while it is her second outing opposite Vishal after Action. Their onscreen pairing has been well received in the past, and the announcement has already sparked excitement among fans.

The title promo hints at an intriguing dynamic at the heart of the film. Vishal appears to play a seemingly meek and obedient husband, married to a domineering wife portrayed by Tamannaah. However, there is a twist lurking beneath the surface, as the character is suggested to have a violent side that his wife is completely unaware of. This duality sets the stage for what looks like a mix of action, comedy and psychological tension, a space Sundar C has often enjoyed exploring in his commercial entertainers.

While the makers are keeping the rest of the plot under wraps, the tone of the promo suggests that Purushan will balance mass appeal with a quirky narrative hook. Yogi Babu is also part of the cast, which strongly points towards a generous dose of humour woven into the storyline.

Purushan is being produced by ACS Arun Kumar under the Benzz Media banner, along with Khushbu Sundar’s Avni Cinemax. Khushbu’s association continues her long standing collaboration with Sundar C, both on and off screen, and adds another layer of familiarity to the project.

Sundar C has assembled a technical team that he trusts, bringing on board his regular collaborator Hiphop Tamizha Adhi as the music composer. Cinematography will be handled by Gopi Amarnath, whose work has often lent a slick visual polish to commercial Tamil films. Editing duties fall to Roger, another frequent name in Sundar C’s team.

The Vishal-Sundar C partnership has had its ups and downs over the years, but it remains one of the more interesting long-term collaborations in the industry. Their first film together, Aambala, was a colourful family entertainer that leaned heavily on comedy and romance. Action took a more international route with its globetrotting spy thriller vibe. Madha Gaja Raja, despite being stuck in production limbo for over a decade, eventually emerged as a box office success when it finally released early last year, proving that their chemistry still clicked with audiences.

With Purushan, the duo appears to be returning to a more character driven, yet still mass friendly, space. The idea of a mild mannered man hiding a violent streak offers Vishal a chance to play with contrasting shades, something he has done effectively in films like Thupparivaalan and Irumbu Thirai.

As the film moves into production, expectations are already riding high. With a proven team, a star cast that knows how to play off each other and a premise that promises both laughs and thrills, Purushan is shaping up to be one of the most interesting Tamil releases on the horizon.
