  • David Beckham Makes a Strong Case For the Power Cardigan

David Beckham Makes a Strong Case For the Power Cardigan

    [ad_1]

Logan Roy. Mr. Rogers. The Dude. The power cardigan has a long and storied history in pop culture. Now, there’s a cardigan wearer whose place in this pantheon we must duly celebrate: David Beckham.

The new four-part docuseries Beckham, directed by Fisher Stevens, has made quite a stir since it debuted on Netflix. It’s a rare intimate look into the soccer player’s dramatic ascendancy, his marriage to Victoria Beckham (née Posh Spice), and his turbulent relationship to fame and the sport that made him. The docuseries is also a veritable banquet of fits, from Beckham’s ‘90s Manchester United jersey to a cavalcade of the most mind-melting Y2K couples style imaginable. (The matching purple wedding looks! The blonde highlights! The sarong!)

When present-day Becks is featured in Beckham, though, his personal style is noticeably more muted and mature than the flashiness we see in the archival footage. It’s a reflection of how his life, once a rollercoaster, has similarly settled into a comfortable rhythm. Now 48 and retired from the beautiful game, the doc literally opens with Beckham gently tending to his beehives. Even the glimpse we get into his closet shows a hyper-organized wardrobe teeming with timeless classics.

Similarly, the most notable look that he wears while being interviewed is a glorious knit cardigan. It’s a collared, cream-colored number with double-breasted buttons, which Beckham pairs with a chambray shirt and jeans. It’s the rare sweater perfect for both padding around the house on an off day, and for being interviewed for a documentary in which you must reflect on your entire life. In this cardigan, Beckham appears unbothered, moisturized, happy, in his lane, focused, flourishing, and—crucially—supremely cozy.

How To Wear The Four-Figure Sweater Trend Designers Love For Only $20

    [ad_1]

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’m going to try my hardest to re-create a runway look for under $50. As a Gen Z fashion editor just starting her career, unfortunately, ready-to-wear pieces aren’t exactly in my budget yet, but after months of waiting, I can finally say I might be close enough— perhaps not to buying a full look from Prada’s Fall/Winter 2023 show, but at least to buying something that somewhat resembles it. Of course, I’m talking about grey sweaters.

While it seems trivial to call an incredibly basic, somewhat boring knit top the accessory of the season, looking at runway shows and Instagram posts, it’s clear that everyone else is taking inspiration from this paradoxical timeless trend that’s been everywhere the last few months.. Just take a look at some of the most buzzed-about shows of the Fall/Winter 2023 season: Miu Miu, Fendi, and Prada all included a simple, grey sweater paired with a bottom-du-jour.

Slipping into a soft, chunky-knit sweater is one of those cold-weather comforts I look forward to the minute summer is over. Whether it’s a cozy turtleneck, a cardigan for layering, or a pullover sweater, I’m always drawn to slightly oversize versions with a relaxed fit. The closer it feels to wearing a blanket, the better! I’ve been looking for a chunky collared sweater that won’t overwhelm my frame or make me itch, and I’ve finally found it. Old Navy’s Polo Sweater ($29, originally $50) is so perfect, I’m eyeing the dark green (hello, holiday gatherings!) and black versions to wear with my favorite jeans and boots all season.

    Main ImageMain Image

What I Like About Old Navy’s Polo Sweater

With its dropped shoulders and loose fit, this sweater is oversize coziness at its best but still manages to be flattering with its V neck, fashionable collar, and cuff sleeves. I like to tuck in the front to control the volume and keep it from looking sloppy. The material is a cotton-blend yarn that’s so soft, you might find yourself absent-mindedly petting your arm. It’s also sensitive-skin friendly, so you won’t be tempted to scratch or constantly sneeze with loose fibers floating and shedding everywhere. It’s on the thicker side, so it will keep you toasty on chilly days, but you can still layer it under a coat.

    POPSUGAR Photography | Angela Elias

What’s Worth Noting About Old Navy’s Polo Sweater

I got my usual size medium and didn’t need to size up to get the loose fit I was going for. If you want a little less volume, you could get away with sizing down without it feeling too snug. It hits right at the hips, which also helps the looser fit from looking too big. You’ll want to wash it on a cold, gentle cycle and lay flat to dry.

Who Is Old Navy’s Polo Sweater Best For?

This piece is perfect for anyone who wants a soft and comfortable sweater that can be dressed up with jeans and boots or paired with joggers and sneakers. Since it’s warm and thick, it’s best for chilly weather. It is a bit too chunky to layer under a blazer or leather jacket and works better under a roomier coat.

    Additional Details

    • It’s made with a cotton-blend yarn and 36 percent recycled polyester.
    • It comes in three colors, including black and dark green.
    • It should be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle and laid flat to dry.

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

Sweaters are a section of our wardrobes that we find hard to edit. Chunky and oversize! Classic cashmere cuts! Slim-fitting turtlenecks for layering! Sweater fatigue isn’t a thing in our book; we live for “sweater weather” season, and we’re firm believers that knits are acceptable year-round. Think classy crewnecks and chic cardigans tossed over our shoulders or paired with slim-strap clothes in spring and airy open-weaves with shorts or swimwear in the summer.

We get equally excited about sweater trends and one knitwear movement at the top of our lists as of late is the collared-sweater fad. Old Navy has an extensive collection, ranging from half-zips to polos, each exuding nostalgic, preppy-adjacent charm. These sweaters come in various colors, weights, and silhouettes, and in true Old Navy fashion, they are reasonably priced. Whether paired with wide-leg trousers for a polished-cool look, activewear leggings for a sporty vibe, or leather pants and heels for a night-out ensemble, the styling possibilities are endless. The collared-sweater trend leaves no room for fashion missteps, so, without further ado, explore and shop our 10 favorite collared sweaters from Old Navy.

I Ran My Hands Through Dozens of Sweaters at Nordstrom—These 10 Are Soft IRL

    [ad_1]

Online shopping is amazing—except when you order a sweater, and when it finally arrives, you realize it’s itchy AF and end up tossing it in a donation bin just a few months later. A lot of my NYC shopping adventures tend to lead me to Nordstrom simply because the retailer has everything, and my most recent visit made me want to explore the sweater offerings. There really is an undeniable charm to physically touching, feeling, and trying on the clothing before you buy it. My trip to Nordstrom helped me determine which sweaters were actually cozy in real life.

Navigating the levels and levels of sellout-worthy clothing, I encountered an array of textures, colors, and styles that promised to elevate my winter wardrobe. From chunky cable-knit styles that whispered warmth to sleek, fitted designs that were made for layering, each sweater I tried had a unique story to tell. But beyond the aesthetics, my mission was to assess the quality, the feel of the fabric against my skin, and the overall craftsmanship. Out of the endless options I perused at the Nordstrom flagship store, below are the 10 sweaters I would actually take home with me.

This Sweater Style Is Classic and Luxe Looking: 20 That You Need to See for Fall

    [ad_1]

If your style thrives in the falltime, there’s a strong chance you have a solid sweater collection. Among the cardigans, turtlenecks, and knit vests, there’s one classic sweater style that will always stand the test of time—the cable-knit sweater. After all, Rory Gilmore was able to wear one flawlessly in 2000, and Gen Zers are still following suit over 20 years later. That’s enough evidence to prove its fashion strength.

Now that we’ve established it as a timeless piece, let’s not forget its immense versatility. Equal parts comfortable and chic, a cable-knit sweater can be worn with pretty much anything. Live in leggings? A slouchy cable-knit sweater will bring a chic twist to the look. If jeans are more your thing, just picture a neutral cable-knit sweater with loose denim and chunky boots. We really could go on and on here.

With all that in mind, we thought we’d share with you some of our favorite cable-knit sweaters available right now. Keep scrolling for more. You just may find a new style to add to your rotation.

The Cutest Sweaters at J.Crew, According to a Fashion Editor

    [ad_1]

I make a lot of SNL references in daily life, but one of my favorite bits to call upon is the one about the sweater weather with Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph. It’s a banger every single fall without fail. The second the leaves start to fall and the air turns crispy, I’m always thrilled to bust out my favorite sweaters. Or, you know, buy a couple of new ones!

One of my favorite places to buy sweaters is J.Crew. They have a healthy mix of cashmere and cotton fabrics along with crewneck, V-neck, and cardigan silhouettes. I strongly suggest dipping your toes into the color trend of the moment: red. But if you’re more of a neutrals lover, that’s okay too. There are plenty of sweaters in camel, white, black, and other classic hues. Scroll down to shop my favorite J.Crew sweaters for fall and winter 2023.

Can’t Talk—I’m Too Busy Losing My Cool Over These Fall Fashion and Beauty Items

If you think editors are picky about what they invest in, allow me to introduce you to my close friends and family. As the resident personal shopper for my loved ones (a position they have appointed me), I’m always fascinated to see what they want to buy with each new season. The most popular requests for fall were, of course, new sweaters, transitional outerwear, and really good basics. And a few of my friends requested “going-out clothes for people in their mid to late 20s” (always a challenge) and interesting accessories to mix and match with their staple pieces. After searching high and low for my favorites in each of these categories, I decided to turn them into a shoppable story.
