    HUMBLE, Texas — You won’t find the designs at DC Apparel anywhere else. They are all created by the owner, Donecia Abate.

    At DC Apparel, her distinctive designs celebrate the pride of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Abate herself is a graduate of both Tuskegee and Prairie View A&M University. In the video above, she shares her passion for HBCUs and the inspirations behind her designs.

    It’s been less than a full week since Sofia Richie Grainge and her husband Elliot Grainge announced in Vogue that they’re expecting, but already, the 25-year-old mom-to-be has debuted two “maternity” looks, and both of them include a certain beloved winter staple: cashmere sweaters.

    On Monday, Richie Grainge was spotted in Los Angeles wearing a tan-colored cashmere knit underneath a pair of army-green R13 overalls. To the combo, she added white flat shoes, tortoiseshell sunglasses, and a canvas-and-leather Ferragamo Hug bag. A day later, she picked out another sweater in the luxe, super-soft fabric for lunch at Beverly Grill in Beverly Hills, this time, an oatmeal-and-black striped V-neck by Khaite. For the mid-day activity, she kept things casual, styling her thick sweater with leggings, white sneakers from On x Loewe, Toteme sunglasses and her go-to oversize The Row bag.

    Given how little time has passed since their big announcement, the fact that Richie Grainge has picked this specific sweater style twice already is a sure-fire sign that there’s a lot more of it to come in her pregnancy.

    J.Crew's Most Viral Sweater of the Season Is Finally Back in Stock

    As soon as J.Crew’s Creative Director Olympia Gayot posted about an extra-special new cashmere sweater on her Instagram Story earlier this fall and an entire J.Crew campaign featuring members of the New York City Ballet wearing said sweater, it’s a given that a swift sellout soon followed. The sweater in question is J.Crew’s Brushed Cashmere Sweater.

    J.Crew’s design team spent a year developing the special fabric, which is made of long cashmere fibers that are specially washed to give them a light and fluffy finish. The result is the softest, fluffiest cashmere sweater you’ve ever seen. It was originally released in oversize V-neck and polo versions (which there are currently a few sizes left in). People went crazy for the V-neck sweater and it flew out of stock in every color. But lo and behold, I just noticed that J.Crew has restocked it in a crewneck version, in three perfect colors (oh, and there’s a hat too).     Fashion people know where they were on October 6, 2019, when Katie Holmes went viral for her cardigan-and-cashmere-bra combination. The outfit—especially the sweater—is still imprinted into my memory to this day. The cardigan in question was, of course, Khaite. While it sold out not long after Holmes wore it, the brand has since maintained the style as a signature and keeps bringing it back in new colors. In the four years since that viral moment, the Scarlet Cardigan has hardly wavered from my wish list. The only issue is that my bank account has yet to catch up with my taste.

    I know this might sound weird, but my family has kind of an odd obsession with cashmere. Ever since I was little, cashmere sweaters, shawls, throws, or winter accessories like gloves, hats, and scarves were what people gifted each other, both on my mom’s side and my dad’s. It even become sort of a challenge of who can find the best cashmere for the most affordable price, be it because of deep discounts or some top-secret high-quality but low-price brand. (My mom’s pick was always Costco—IYKYK.) So it’s not all that strange that as an adult, my closet is now full of the super-soft fabric, both my own personal collection and pieces I’ve set aside to give away come the holidays or a birthday.
