Kaia Gerber Didn’t Realize How “Iconic” Mom Cindy Crawford Is Until About a Year Ago

Kaia Gerber knew when she followed in mom Cindy Crawford’s footsteps and started modeling she’d have some big shoes to fill. It wasn’t until last year, however, that she really understood how massive those designer stilettos were.

In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, published Tuesday, Gerber revealed that watching the 2023 Apple TV+ series The Super Models, which chronicled the histories of Crawford and fellow “supers” Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista, opened her eyes to what a trailblazer her mother was in the industry she’s now a part of herself.

“I was starstruck in front of her after,” she said. “I was like, ‘I didn’t realize. I knew you were iconic, but….’ I didn’t understand when I was younger.”

While Gerber has been modeling since she was a child (and has now added acting and book club curation to her resume), she said that she was impressed by her mother’s success “coming from a very different background than I did.”

“I thought it was so cool that she always had that ambition, and she did things where people told her, ‘This will ruin your career. Don’t do this,’” Gerber said. “And she trusted her instincts.”

With her supermodel mother and her father, Rande Gerber, who co-founded the Casamigos tequila line with George Clooney, Gerber knows she’s a nepo baby and is thankful for it.

“I don’t think it’s a topic that will go away, so I’ve clearly reached a point of acceptance,” she told the magazine. “I personally am very aware of all the wonderful things it has done for me, and I would never, ever say anything negative about it, because that is my truth about it.”

Plus, while parents typically love giving their kids advice on dealing with school, friends, romance, whatever, 22-year-old Gerber is in a position to get expert-level tips from people at the top of her industry—who just so happen to have raised her.

“I can actually ask my parents advice on career things, on business things,” she says. “That’s very rare, to have parents who are in the same industry or career as you, whose advice you actually can trust.”

  • Supermodel Christie Brinkley Celebrates 70th Birthday Today – ‘We Made It’

The supermodel Christie Brinkley is turning 70 today, and she took to social media to celebrate.

    Brinkley Turns 70

Brinkley celebrated her landmark birthday by posting a series of photos to Instagram of herself and two of her children on vacation in Turks & Caicos. The images show Brinkley lounging in a cabana and then standing underneath a “Happy Birthday” banner with her kids.

“We made it here just in time for a golden sunset at lucky house,” she captioned the post. “And swipe to see what the kids did to our living room so I don’t forget I’m turning 70 on Friday! isn’t that S W E E T!!!!”

Last week, Brinkley told People Magazine that she is approaching her 70th birthday  “with a lot of reverence and emotion.”

“I think 70 is very similar to 50, in that it’s a time when you look both back and forward,” she said, adding that just like when she turned 50, the “steady march” to 70 has carried a certain weight.

“The big 7-0 is another one of those [ages] that’s up there in giant block numbers that loom over,” she explained. “At 62, you start thinking, ‘Well, I’m almost 70.’ It cast a shadow all over that whole decade down.”

Instead of letting this get her down, however, Brinkley instead put her energy into figuring out how to make this moment “special.”

“Over the last five years, I thought, ‘I’m going to do a big blowout.’” However, life got in the way of her party planning. “Every day I’ve been so busy,” Brinkley said. “I haven’t really had a second to put a plan in place. And you know what? That’s absolutely fine with me.”

    Brinkley Focused On The Future

Fox News reported that Brinkley is also focused on the things that she still wants to do in this life.

“I still have to see India,” she said. “I’ve never been to Tahiti or Thailand. I want to go to Bali also. I’ve got to do an eat, pray, love.”

Brinkley has made it clear that she has no intention of allowing her age to stop her from taking part in future projects.

“What’s the big deal about 30? What’s the big deal about 40?” Brinkley said back in September. “If you take good care of yourself, and you eat right, and you exercise, and you have a good mental attitude — lots of laughter, lots of curiosity, lots of adventures — that keeps you young. In short, age is just a state of mind, so I just don’t think about it.”

Brinkley ‘Open’ To Finding Love Again

Though Brinkley has been married and divorced four times, she is currently single. While she “remains open” to finding love again, she admitted last month that the challenge for her is that “there just doesn’t seem to be anybody out there.”

“At the same time. I am pretty comfortable with my life the way it is, so, que será, será!” she told People Magazine. “I always said my whole life that I think that you have to be happy alone so that you get with a man for the right reasons and you’re not clinging to him because you need to, you know?”

God bless Brinkley for continuing to show the world that age really is just a number. We would like to wish Brinkley a very happy birthday, and many more to come!

O’Neill’s career began in 1985, when photographer Chuck Baker and his stylist wife, Martha, approached her at New York’s JFK airport. At the time, she was working in marketing at Xerox; by March 1986 she was on the cover of British Vogue.

“By the time I was 11 or 12 years old, I was convinced that my tall, skinny frame was some kind of cosmic joke…with me the punchline,” she once said. That punchline was a lucrative one, however, as companies like Esprit, Coca-Cola, and Avon clamored to feature her in ads.

Tatjana Patitz, ‘original’ supermodel of ’80s and ’90s, dies at 56 – National | Globalnews.ca

Tatjana Patitz, one of an elite group of famed supermodels who graced magazine covers in the 1980s and ’90s and appeared in George Michael’s Freedom! ’90 music video, has died at age 56.

Patitz’s death in the Santa Barbara, Calif., area was confirmed by her New York agent, Corinne Nicolas, at the Model CoOp agency. ET reported that Patitz died after a battle with breast cancer.

“Needless to say, we are all devastated by her passing,” Patitz’s agent said. “She was a compassionate soul, kind and generous of heart and an avid advocate of animal rights.”

Patitz, who was born in Germany, raised in Sweden and later made her life in California, was known as part of an elite handful of “original” supermodels, appearing in the Michael video along with Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.

She was a favourite of fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, who highlighted her natural beauty in his famous 1988 photo, “White Shirts: Six Supermodels, Malibu,” and for British Vogue’s 1990 cover — leading Michael to cast the group in his lip-syncing video, according to Vogue.

The magazine quoted its global editorial director, Anna Wintour, as saying Patitz was “always the European symbol of chic, like Romy Schneider-meets-Monica Vitti. She was far less visible than her peers — more mysterious, more grown-up, more unattainable — and that had its own appeal.”

In a 2006 interview, Patitz opined that the golden age of supermodels was over.

“There was a real era, and the reason that happened was because glamour was brought into it,” she was quoted as saying in Prestige Hong Kong magazine. “Now the celebrities and actresses have taken over, and the models are in the backseat completely.”

She also noted that models from her era had healthier physiques.

“Women were healthy, not these scrawny little models that nobody knows their names anymore,” Patitz said.
