Earlier this year, the former “Superman” star Dean Cain, who has long been known as one of the only openly conservative stars in Hollywood, fled the liberal-run state of California in search of a better life in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, Cain is opening up about the “debauchery” that he witnessed during his decades in Hollywood.
Cain Talks Hollywood ‘Debauchery’
“I have my opinions,” Cain recently said, according to Faithwire. “You see a lot of debauchery in Hollywood. I’ve been debaucherous myself; I’ve done things that I’m not proud of. I’ve asked forgiveness for those things and I’ve mended my ways. There’s just so many things about being there.”
While Cain admitted that it’s possible to live a “godly” life in Hollywood, he made sure to add that it’s much easier to do so away from that world.
“You don’t find a whole lot of [Christian faith], certainly not openly, in Hollywood,” said Cain, 57. “That’s why I make all of the faith-based films that I make, because I want those messages out there. … I think those movies are really important.”

These days, Cain is focused on making faith-based movies that “stick with” audiences.
“They may affect someone’s life and they may speak to an experience somebody understands,” he explained. “And, if that happens, I’ve done the right thing by making that film.”
In this same interview, Cain confessed that developing his relationship with God has been a “process” for him.
“We all have our own process,” Cain stated. “You may grow up in a household that’s full of Christian teachings and go to church every Sunday and still have those questions — and that’s natural. I believe it’s a natural thing, and everybody’s relationship with God is subjective, it’s unique, and the way they get there … is their own journey.”
“And I’ll just say, God and I have a lot more conversations now than we did when I was 25,” he concluded.
Cain previously opened up about why he decided to leave the liberal world of California.
“I had to leave California,” Cain told The Messenger last month. “California has gone crazy in a sense. There’s been so much. Look at the taxation. Look at the regulations. Look at the silly laws that have been passed.”
“There were things that I didn’t agree with, and I’ve been voting here and living here and working here my entire life,” he continued. “I finally got to a place where I was like, I don’t agree with this.”
Cain went on to say that he has no regrets about moving to Las Vegas.
“It’s a big savings,” he added. “So much of it made sense. I’m so happy. It’s so much easier to travel places from Las Vegas than from LAX. It’s incredible. It’s the quietest place I’ve ever slept in my life. When I got here and saw traffic, I was like, ‘What is this foreign substance? I don’t like it anymore.’ I don’t deal with that at all. It’s great.”
We’re so glad to see that Cain is loving life in Las Vegas, and that he’s maintaining his close relationship with God. In the end, a godly American patriot like Cain is much better off far away from the “debauchery” of Hollywood!

The former “Superman” star Dean Cain is defying the liberal world of Hollywood to star in a new Christmas movie that celebrates faith.
Cain Talks New Christmas Movie
“Christmas, for me, is one of those things outside of any religious connotation, which … I think it’s very important: the birth of Jesus and celebrating his birth,” Cain, 57, told Fox News. “But if it’s outside of that, just for everyone to reach out to everyone, it’s a time for families to come together. It’s a time to reflect on the past year and things that’s been going on in life. And it makes it a wonderful, wonderful time.”
“There’s been a lot of talk about a war on Christmas,” he continued. “I just want to celebrate Christmas, I want to love my family, I want to be with everybody.”
That’s why Cain decided to star in “Bringing Back Christmas,” which is described as “a fun and inspiring holiday story of Faith, perseverance, and Angelic intervention.”
Cain explained that in this film, he plays a “callous jerk” who lays off employees right before Christmas.
“Then [the main character played by Mark Christopher Lawrence] meets an angel and has to go on this trip back … in time to Bethlehem,” Cain said.
“I guess there’s a little bit of a Scrooge element to it, but it’s more about like seeing what was going on Christmastime back in the day when it was baby Jesus,” he continued. “But it’s done with a very humorous, humorous twist.”

“I’ve got all [the] family coming this year,” he said. “So, I moved this year from California to Las Vegas, or just outside in Henderson. Big, beautiful house, it’s all decorated up. … Everybody’s coming out.”
“I can’t wait to have everybody here and just spend time together as a family and just celebrate each other and celebrate being together and have that warmth and wonderful time together,” he added. “I just cannot wait for it.”
Cain went on to say that he isn’t surprised that many celebrities have fled California, given how liberals have been running the state.
“I think there’s a number of people, big stars, that have moved out of Hollywood. And I understand why,” he said. “California’s tax situation is ridiculous. You know, 13.2 or 13.4% is the top tax bracket … that bracket is very, very high.”
“There’s no state income tax, personal state income tax in the state of Nevada,” he continued. “That’s a huge saving right off the top. The energy tax … other taxes are less, property taxes, sales tax, I mean, you name it. There’s so many things that are less.”
These days, Cain is loving his new life in Nevada, and he’s pushing for film studios to move to the state.
“I’d love to be asleep in my bed here and go to work,” he concluded. “That’d be wonderful.”

Over the past few years, there has been a mass exodus from the liberal state of California, with even A-list stars jumping ship in search of a better life. Back in 2021, the former Rocky star Sylvester Stallone became the latest celebrity to do this when he picked up and moved to Florida with his wife Jennifer Flavin and their daughters.
Now, his wife is speaking out to say that she has no regrets about making this move.
Flavin ‘Really Happy’ With Move
“It’s an incredible move, I have to say I’m really happy with our move and our change,” Flavin, 55, recently told Fox News.
“I was born and raised there, two of our kids were born there, but now everyone’s out, our daughters moved to the East Coast … so there wasn’t really anything left for me in California,” she continued. “A few of our best friends also moved, so I think it’s [a] good change, just making new friends, living a totally different lifestyle, I love it, I’m really happy.”
Stallone, 77, himself also addressed the move at the beginning of his Netflix documentary Sly.
“I wasn’t moving because ‘Oh, wow, I wanted another beautiful view,’” he explained. “Any time changing that paradigm which you become used to, it’s literally to jump-start that process again.”
Though many celebrities have said that they have left California because of the crime there, Flavin was quick to say that this is not why her family made the move.
“There’s crime everywhere, there’s crime in Florida, too, so I didn’t move because of crime,” she said. “You can find it anywhere you look, even in small towns.”
“I think California is probably the most beautiful state in the United States, I absolutely love it, but I just needed a change,” she added. “I felt like I’ve been there long enough, and life is short, so I wanted to make a change and not just be sitting in one house the rest of my life.”
This comes after the former “Superman” star Dean Cain fled California to start a new life in Nevada.
“I love California. It’s the most beautiful state,” Cain, 57, explained to Fox News earlier this year. “Everything’s wonderful about it except for the policies. The policies are just terrible. The fiscal policies, the soft-on-crime policies, the homelessness policies.”
“The things that our leaders in California have been doing have driven out anybody who can really afford to get out,” he continued. “People are flocking out of there in droves.”
The former “Happy Days” star Scott Baio also recently fled California to move to Florida due to rising homelessness and crime.
“I see people… When I drive with my kid, I gotta turn her head away. She’s 14 years old. I see people defecating on the sidewalk,” Baio lamented during a call with the Clay & Buck show. “You see people in parks shooting up. There’s people passed out everywhere. I mean it. It’s not the isolated. It’s all over the place. And I’m about ready to get out of the state. So, you know, just so you guys know, that it’s no joke out here.”
“I think, probably since Governor Newsom, it’s really gotten bad, and maybe a little before that. So, maybe four or five years ago,” he continued. “It’s just… It’s out of control, guys. Listen, I’ve been here for 45, almost 50 years. I’ve seen this place go from an absolute paradise into a cesspool…”

In the end, it’s easy to see why so many people are fleeing the radically liberal state of California. If the leftists running California want to keep the likes of stars like Stallone, Cain, and Baio in their state, they might want to start rethinking some of their policies.

Superman: Legacy’s cast has grown a bit bigger, as the roles of Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher have been cast for the DC Studios movie. The film is set to release on July 11, 2025.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Skyler Gisondo will be playing Superman’s best friend Jimmy Olsen while Deadline has reported that Sara Sampaio will be playing Lex Luthor’s ally and assistant Eve Teschmacher.
Gisondo has played roles in movies like 2021’s Licorice Pizza and series like The Righteous Gemstones and Curb Your Enthusiasm, while Sampaio has appeared in films like 2021’s Crisis and the hit Showtime series Billions.
Having become part of the cast of Superman: Legacy, the duo join David Corenswet — who has the titular role of Clark Kent/Superman — Rachel Brosnahan — who is playing Lois Lane — and Nicholas Hoult, who is playing the villainous Lex Luthor. Further cast members include María Gabriela De Faría, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and more.
What is Superman: Legacy about?
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Tim Burton was responsible for some of the most beloved superhero movies ever: 1989’s Batmanand Batman Returns. He also came very close to making a Superman movie, Superman Lives, which was supposed to star Nicolas Cage, and fell apart right before shooting was about to begin. All of these projects are referenced in the recent DC film The Flash, including having Michael Keaton playing Batman and a Cage cameo as Superman.
Despite the obvious reverence the film has for Burton’s work, the director says he wasn’t really a fan of any of that. He spoke with BFI and discussed how he feels about major studios today, his history working on Superman and Batman, and many other things going on both personally and in the larger movie industry.
Specifically, when asked about Superman’s cameo in The Flash, Burton said:
No, I don’t have regrets. I will say this: when you work that long on a project and it doesn’t happen, it affects you for the rest of your life. Because you get passionate about things, and each thing is an unknown journey, and it wasn’t there yet. But it’s one of those experiences that never leaves you, a little bi … but also it goes into another AI thing, and this is why I think I’m over it with the studio. They can take what you did, Batman or whatever, and culturally misappropriate it, or whatever you want to call it. Even though you’re a slave of Disney or Warner Brothers, they can do whatever they want. So in my latter years of life, I’m in quiet revolt against all this.

The Biggest DC Movie Bombs
These movies may have featured some of the biggest superheroes in history, but they were also big flops.
“Man is something that shall be overcome,” the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote in his 1883 classic Thus Spoke Zarathustra. “Man is a rope, tied between beast and superman—a rope over an abyss. What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.”
When he wrote this, the famously troubled intellectual was reckoning with ambivalent feelings about German culture (including a fallout with his friend, the composer Richard Wagner), a series of illnesses, and an opium habit that very likely constituted a drug addiction. But he was also grappling with what historians call the Second Industrial Revolution, that is, the revolution of mass production.
Much of Nietzsche’s writings, obscure in his own lifetime, foreshadowed a 20th century full of what he called “nihilism,” especially his famous proclamation, “God is dead.” In his place was the superman, or “Übermensch,” a determiner of his own life, who eschews traditional Christian mores and births his own system of values that allows him to conquer all human challenges. Now artificial intelligence is here, and modern technologists are proclaiming a “Fourth Industrial Revolution” that will give birth to a new “superhuman,” which begs the question, is humanity still the proverbial rope over the abyss?
It’s worth a look back at how we got here.
Faster than a speeding bullet
During times of technological upheaval, it seems that Nietszche’s prophecy of the birth of the Übermensch always reemerges. There are two famous examples—you already know them.
First, about a half-century after Nietzsche conceived his version, Action Comics released its first issue in 1939, featuring a character named “Superman” who went on to become the very first comic-book superhero just as the world was hurtling into the atomic age, recently depicted in the blockbuster smash hit, “Oppenheimer.” As society digested the breakthroughs of the Second Industrial Revolution, creating modern cities full of elevators, skyscrapers and cars, Superman represented a figure who could easily conquer modern technology. It was all there in the catch phrase: “Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!” (Even this phrase itself was industrial in nature, originating in a 1940 show for the radio, an entirely new technology.)
While Nietzsche’s Übermensch was an embodiment of religious rejection, a being who transcended the mores of the Christian church, the character of Superman nodded to generations of human advancement, with abilities including bulletproof skin and laser-beaming eyes.
Moreover, Nietzsche’s Übermensch was an aspirational concept whose name literally evokes a higher plane, and DC’s Superman is from the alien world of Krypton, a planet more sophisticated than Earth. Not only is Superman physically superior to the normal man, but he retains aspects of the original Übermensch as a pillar of moral uprightness. Even in his alter ego as Clark Kent, he is morally infallible as an idealistic journalist (the most morally correct profession, of course).
The superman goes hand-in-hand with the concept of transhumanism embraced by capitalists and technologists—the idea that advanced technology will allow humans to transformatively augment themselves and their environment. It harkens back to Nietzsche’s vision of man as a “rope” and “something to be overcome,” or in the transhumanist view, a base for mechanization. Within transhumanism is the concept of the “new man,” a utopian ideal of the perfect person, a concept coopted decades after Nietzsche’s death by non-Democratic movements ranging from Communism to Fascism to its subset, Nazism, each of which envisioned the perfect citizen created through science and tech. Even the most casual student of 20th century history knows this went tragically and horrifically wrong.
While these concepts seem bizarre to a 21st century digital native, they’re actually still heavily embedded into mainstream politics and pop culture. The world’s richest man himself, Elon Musk, is a known transhumanist who is actively working on projects to colonize space and insert computer chips into our brains. Science fiction has flourished by examining variations on the superman and the transhuman, often in dystopian ways, for example with Blade Runner in the 1980s and The Matrix more recently. Even this summer’s smash hit Barbie movie dabbles in transhumanism, as a plastic doll blessed with the stereotypical ideal of femininity and beauty ventures into the real world, although several readings of that film land with the takeaway that there’s just no way to be a Superwoman in modern life.
Whatever happened to the Superman of the 21st century?
We see the superman concept, especially as it intersects with technology, as a frequently used political tool because of the inherent stratification an “ideal” person erects. And although transhumanism is toyed with by socialists and capitalists alike, sociologists have theorized that political transhumanism could birth Capitalism 2.0, an era hyperfixated on tech-driven productivity leaps.
Now, as we are rounding the bend on the Fourth Industrial Revolution—the revolution of smart automation, interconnectivity, and artificial intelligence—philosophy buffs may be wondering what will emerge as the Übermensch of our time. While it’s early, to be sure, history hints that people will search for an aspirational icon that can transcend the power frameworks of our time.
One person has already posited a theory that our Übermensch will be A.I.: Masayoshi Son, one of the world’s richest men, has already labeled the invention as the “Birth of Superhuman.” Son, who has been a major venture capital investor for decades and is the CEO of Japan’s SoftBank, announced to investors this year that the emergence of ChatGPT brought him to a tearful existential crisis over A.I. and the meaning of life, before deciding to dedicate his company and career to “design[ing] the future of humanity.” Sounds slightly tangential to Nietzsche’s crisis on nihilism.
This surely isn’t to say that Son is the next Nietzsche—but the resemblance to the Übermensch is unmistakable. Son told SoftBank shareholders that he pitches and refines ideas with A.I. every day, and had used the tool to develop over 600 new inventions in less than a year. Through a transhumanist lens, he’s using emerging technology to hugely augment his intelligence and ideation abilities. As the world goes through another technological upheaval, and people look for an aspirational entity that can transcend the power framework of our time, it’s important to ask what that framework is. Arguably, it’s information.
In the way that Nietzche’s Übermensch controlled his own infallible set of morals, or comic books’ Superman controlled his invulnerable body, perhaps the parallel can be drawn of A.I. controlling its vast, 10,000 chip-cache of knowledge. The difference is that the Übermensch and Superman existed as fictional characters, without any real way for people to interact with them. They were aspirational, while A.I. is a real tool that’s driving rapid change in the world.
It’s too early to say how A.I. will transform the workforce, but we should probably take any notion of a superhuman with a grain of salt. Maybe humanity is a rope over an abyss, but the surest way to fall into it is through the pursuit of superpowers through technology.
Superman Legacy, the movie that will mark the live-action rebirth of the DC Universe, has added three new actors to its cast, each of them playing a superhero with a long history in the comic books. Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi will be Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillion will portray a Green Lantern (although not necessarily the Green Lantern.)
James Gunn, who wrote and will direct the 2025 movie, has already cast David Corenswet (The Politician) as Clark Kent and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. When it starts shooting in January 2024, it will set the course for the new DCU that the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker is building in collaboration with fellow chair and CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran.
In an exclusive to Vanity Fair, DC Studios revealed the new additions: Merced, best known for playing the besieged drug cartel daughter in Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the ever-exploring title character in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, will soar into the new universe as the winged warrior Hawkgirl. The hero’s favorite battle accessories are melee weapons—swords, spears, and maces—and Merced’s 5-foot-1 size will set her apart from the typical comic book brawler.

Gathegi, who played the double-dealing vampire Laurent in the Twilight films and the ever-evolving Darwin in X-Men: First Class, will take on the role of Mister Terrific, a.k.a. Michael Holt, who is not only a skilled combatant but one of the world’s most brilliant inventors and tacticians, orbited by the floating T-Sphere weapons he designed. Among his superpowers is his otherworldly intellect. On the sleeve of his jacket is the phrase “Fair Play,” a tribute to the catchphrase of an earlier version of the Mister Terrific character as well as a statement of belief.
Finally, Fillion—a mainstay of Gunn’s movies who starred in the director’s first movie, the 2006 horror-comedy Slither, and his most recent one, Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will join him again in Superman Legacy as a Green Lantern named Guy Gardner.
Comic fans primarily think of two primary characters in relation to the Green Lantern mantle. Hal Jordan was the original version of the comic book hero (played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie). The next iteration of the green glowing protector was named John Stewart, notable when he was introduced in the early ‘70s for being one of DC’s earliest and most prominent Black superheroes. Gardner, the character Fillion will play in Superman Legacy, is distinct from both of them for being somewhat less than heroic when he wears the matter-manifesting ring that gives the Green Lantern his powers.
Among the rest of the aliens and humans who serve in that group of galactic peacekeepers, Gardner is known as an abrasive, sometimes obnoxious presence. The role also brings a dose of awkward comedy to Superman Legacy. The character is known for his iconic bowl cut haircut, which will be a part of Fillion’s look in the film.
It’s a bird…. It’s a plane…. It’s another Superman. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and DC Studios have found their next Clark Kent and Lois Lane in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who are set to star in James Gunn’s forthcoming reboot of the superhero franchise, Superman: Legacy.
The pair was reportedly chosen after an exhaustive months-long search, which included multiple rounds of audition tapes and culminated in an in-person screen test for Gunn, who’s writing and directing the film, and co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran. Other actors who reportedly made it to the final round of screen tests—which took place over two days and involved full costume and makeup—included Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney for Clark Kent and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor for Lois Lane. At the end of the day, Gunn and Safran went with Corenswet and Brosnahan.

Gunn confirmed Corenswet and Brosnahan’s casting in a tweet. “Accurate!” he wrote. “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.” Last year, Gunn announced that he was penning a new Superman script about Clark Kent’s younger days. Shortly after Gunn’s announcement, Henry Cavill, who played Superman in three Zack Snyder films between 2013 and 2021, announced that he would no longer be donning the red cape. “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that,” Cavill wrote in an Instagram post. “James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
Superman: Legacy will mark the first major leading role in a studio film for Corenswet, who has starred in television shows including Ryan Murphy’sHollywood and The Politician, and more recently, in the indie film Pearl opposite Mia Goth. Brosnahan recently wrapped up her Emmy-winning turn as Midge Maisel on Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after five seasons, and is currently starring on Broadway in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window with Oscar Isaac.
Other major roles, including Superman’s archnemesis, Lex Luthor, and Kent’s friend, Jimmy Olsen, have yet to be cast. Per Deadline,Superman: Legacy will follow Superman’s quest “to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.” Superman: Legacy is expected to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

For those who don’t know, Kevin Smith is a bit of a comic book nerd. So much so that he was tapped to write the screenplay for a Superman movie in the mid ’90s. The only issue was a producer named Jon Peters. Peters had some… interesting ideas about how a Superman movie should pan out.
He initially wanted Sean Penn to play the Man of Steel. Okay, that’s reasonable enough. But he also wanted the movie to end with this Superman fighting a giant spider. Tim Burton was brought onboard to direct the project, which became known as Superman Lives. and Smith was supposed to get his wish. Burton cast Nicolas Cage as Superman. The only problem was that the budget was around $200 million at this point. The studio eventually decided to scrap the whole project. Superman Lives never saw the light of day.
That is until, the end of 2023’s The Flash. That whole giant spider climax? It happens at the end of the movie when Ezra Miller’s Flash witnesses the collapse of the multiverse. Complete with Nicolas Cage as Superman. Kevin Smith recently sat down with Rolling Stone to nerd out about how cool it was — and to reveal that while he fought with Peters about the giant spider idea, he now realized it might have actually made for a cool ending to the movie.
As Smith put it:
I got to go to the premiere the other day, and then I watched it again last night here at the movie theater I own, SModcastle Cinemas. I’m watching it again Friday and Saturday at the movie theater with audiences. It’s mind-melting. One of the first things I thought when I saw it at the premiere is, ‘Goddammit, it would have worked.’ As much as I used to make fun of Jon Peters, that looked badass. He wasn’t wrong. Like, it totally could have panned out.

While the classically trained actor starred in the 2013 “Superman” reboot “Man of Steel” and reprised his role of General Zod in “The Flash,” Shannon told Empire magazine he turned down the “Star Wars” franchise in 2016 because he doesn’t find “giant movies … stimulating.”
“I don’t ever want to get stuck in a franchise,” he told the outlet, per Deadline. “I don’t find them interesting and I don’t want to perpetuate them. If I’m making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it — I don’t want to make mindless entertainment.”
“The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it.”
Shannon didn’t name the “Star Wars” movie in question, but the timeline suggests he may have been offered a part in “The Last Jedi.” While appearing in it might have made him a target of online backlash, his comments to Empire last week have arguably done just the same.
“He cashed that check for The Flash tho. I tell you that much right now,” tweeted one person about Shannon’s “mindless entertainment” barometer, while another tweeted: “Says the guy who just starred in the most mindless movie of all time.”

“It’s basically looking at a civilization that destroyed their own planet and think the solution is to go off and destroy another,” Shannon told Empire magazine. “When you hear that hypothetically, if we destroy Earth, we might go live on Mars — it’s the same thing.”
Shannon said a huge motivator to join “Man of Steel” was “it was a one-and-done” job and didn’t lock him into a multiyear franchise. While he claimed to “like the story that ‘The Flash’ is telling,” he notably also explained he “wasn’t there for a long amount of time.”
“I was just there a couple of weeks — so it didn’t break my back to do it,” he told Empire.
While Shannon’s explanation for starring in one comic book movie and briefly reprising that role appears to make personal sense, him joining the DC Extended Universe — and clowning a galaxy far, far away — has many fans on social media turning to the dark side.
Warner Bros. has found a new way to sell fans a copy of 1978’s classic Supermanmovie starring Christopher Reeve: As an NFT.
A lot of the impetus for the movie by Warner Bros. (and likely other studios in the future) is the decline of physical media sales. The company has partnered with a blockchain called Eluvio, which uses proof-of-authority verification rather than proof-of-work verification. Without all the technical jargon, this form of blockchain uses fewer resources, while sacrificing decentralization. Luckily, that’s not really a concern for this kind of format.
Warner Bros. is releasing 1978’s Superman directed by Richard Donner. Instead of just releasing the film as a digital copy, Warner Bros. has instead decided to offer a number of different options. Each version of the NFT will include separate benefits. A “Standard Edition” for $30 includes an interactive location-based navigation menu, Superman: The Movie Theatrical Version, previously released special features and an image gallery featuring stills and behind-the-scenes photos. A “Premium Edition” for $100, Includes three different variations available for purchase separately — Truth, Justice and Hope — each featuring an illustration of Christopher Reeves’ Superman from one of three DC artists: Ivan Reiss, Ben Oliver, or Bill Sienkiewicz, along with an interactive and explorable location-based navigation menu and three versions of the feature film: Superman: The Movie Theatrical Version; Superman: The Movie Expanded Director’s Cut; and Superman: The Movie Extended TV Edition.

All the projects announced by DC Studios as the start of “Chapter 1” of the company’s new universe of movies and shows.
Superman is unarguably one of the most loved superhero characters ever made in history. Recently, it was confirmed that DC Movies is set to be back with yet another film based on the much-loved hero. The project, which has been officially titled Superman Legacy, is helmed by renowned filmmaker James Gunn. Expectations are riding high on the film, which is reportedly based on the origin story of Clark Kent aka Superman.

In his recent interview with Variety, director James Gunn opened up about his ambitious project, and revealed what he is looking for, in his version of Clark Kent aka Superman. “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien,” said the excited filmmaker. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug,” he added.
Tuesday, April 18 was an exciting day for James Gunn.
The DC Studios co-head took to Twitter to share a photo of his script for “Superman Legacy”, revealing that pre-production on the highly anticipated film had begun.
“I’m honoured to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy?” he wrote, reminding that day was also the 85th anniversary of the first comic-book appearance of the Man of Steel, in the first issue of Action Comics.
“Costumes, production design, and more now up and running,” Gunn added.
Gunn announced last month that he’d be writing an directing “Superman: Legacy,” a new chapter in the ongoing cinematic history of the iconic superhero.
While there’s been much speculation about who Gunn plans to play the role, he recently revealed he’d been compiling a short list but hasn’t entered into any casting discussions with actors yet.

James Gunn, who recently took over as one of the heads of DC Studios, will write and direct the next Superman movie, which will inaugurate a new, more interconnected universe for the superhero brand, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday.
Gunn will formally wrap up his ties to comic book rival Marvel this May with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the conclusion of his misfit space-heroes trilogy. Then he will helm the first chapter in a planned reboot of the DC universe: an entirely new take on the Man of Steel called Superman Legacy.
It’s not clear who will star as Clark Kent’s bulletproof alter-ego. No casting has been announced, but the film already has a script (penned by Gunn himself) and a release date: July 11, 2025.
“Superman Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” Warner Bros. said in a statement. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The movie will be produced by Peter Safran, who shares chairman and CEO duties at DC Studios with Gunn. Safran is best known for producing the horror franchises The Nun, The Conjuring, and Annabelle, and previously worked with Gunn on his 2021 DC sequel The Suicide Squad.
Superman Legacy will be followed by writer-director Matt Reeves’s sequel The Batman: Part II, which will bring Robert Pattinson‘s caped crusader back to screens on October 3, 2025.
Before it begins this new phase of films, which Gunn and Safran have titled “Gods and Monsters,” DC has a number of titles already in the pipeline to release, among them Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which debuts this Friday; The Flash, out in June; Blue Beetle, debuting in August; and the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, coming in December. The Joaquin Phoenix–Lady Gaga follow-up Joker: Folie à Deux, will premiere next year, but is considered an “Elseworlds” title—based on a DC character, but existing outside the universe of the other DC-branded movies.
Gunn and Safran announced a handful of new movies for their “Gods and Monsters” slate, among them a Supergirl movie, a feature based on Swamp Thing, and a separate Batman and Robin film called The Brave and the Bold.
Their do-over of DC has rankled some fans after reports that they had scuttled Wonder Woman 3 from director Patty Jenkins, seemingly ending Gal Gadot‘s tenure as the character. Henry Cavill fans also were unhappy after he announced his Superman run had abruptly ended. Moviegoers were promised a Cavill return with last year’s Black Adam movie, starring Dwayne Johnson. It featured a post-credit cameo from the Zack Snyder-universe Superman, hinting that he would be onscreen again as the Kryptonian.
The DC Universe (DCU) has experienced quite a shakeup of late. With James Gunn and Peter Safran being named co-CEOS of the DCU in October, the changes have been swift and impactful. So far, the duo seems to be aiming to retire most of the regiment’s former heroes. One of the first to go was Henry Cavill’s Superman. Cavill was actually the actor who launched the DCU with his role as Clark Kent (a.k.a. Superman) in the 2013 film Man of Steel. He would go on to portray Superman in various DC titles on the big screen until 2016.
Aside from the release of the director’s cut of Justice League (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), Cavill went on a 6-year hiatus from the DCU as Superman. However, Black Adam, which premiered in October 2022, brought with it a cameo that held Superman’s long-awaited reintroduction. For a while, Cavill’s future as Superman seemed bright. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson began promising fans that a Black Adam vs. Superman was imminent, and Cavill himself took to Instagram to announce his return.
However, just weeks after Cavill’s return, Gunn and Safran took over DCU and decided to retire Cavill’s Superman in favor of rebooting the DCU entirely and focusing on a fresh start for the majority of the main characters.
Who will be the next Superman?
So far, Cavill’s replacement as Superman in the DCU has not been announced. However, Gunn did unveil the reason for Cavill’s departure. In a Tweet, he revealed that a young Superman project is on the horizon. While Superman will be a part of Gunn’s and Safran’s DCU, they are seeking to focus on an “earlier part” of Superman’s history. Hence, the duo seems to be seeking an actor younger than Cavill to portray the role of Superman.
Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.
This bit of information is not a lot to work with. However, here are 7 young actors who boast the star power, acting skill, and physical appearance to potentially take on the role of a young Superman.
Austin Butler

Austin Butler is an actor on the rise in Hollywood after his electric performance as Elvis Presley in the 2022 biopic Elvis. In addition to Elvis, he has starred in The Shannara Chronicles and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. He is slowly starting to be picked up by big franchises and blockbusters, too, as he will star in Dune: Part Two in 2023. In addition to being a trending and talented actor, he boasts the looks of Superman. At 6’0” with chiseled features, hair that can be dyed black, and piercing blue eyes, he is the spitting image of a young Superman. Fan art has already highlighted how natural he would look in the Superman suit. At 31, he may be veering on the older side for the role, but he can still pass for a young man in his 20s for a few years. Plus, fans are already putting in a good word for him with Gunn.
Jacob Elordi

Another fan favorite that has arisen for the role of young Superman is Jacob Elordi. While he has less of an expansive resume than Butler, he is also a trending actor who has found star power among the younger generation. His roles in The Kissing Booth trilogy and Euphoria have given him a whirlwind rise to fame. Plus, the fact that he’s 25, has chiseled features, and stands at 6’5” also adds to his appeal as Superman. He is a perfect age, has the fan power, and looks for Superman, but, given his relatively fresh career, it’s unclear if he would have the acting prowess to take on a role like Superman.

Wolfgang Novogratz is another name that has come up in the discussion of who could be a young Superman. Like Elordi, he is another actor who has gained momentum and popularity with younger audiences. He is known for starring in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Yes, God, Yes, and The Half of It. Novogratz may not have the star power of some other choices on this list, but his experience in the coming-of-age genre could help him fit in well with the role of a fledging young superhero. At 6’3” with a fit physique and chiseled features, he also looks the part of Superman.
David Corenswet

Corenswet has been active on the Hollywood scene for over a decade now. He boasts credits in such works as Look Both Ways, Hollywood, and We Own This City. However, he is still in need of a breakthrough role, and Superman could be that for him. Meanwhile, he has the acting skills for the job with his impressive performance in Hollywood, combined with the fact that he started off performing in theatre and has been acting since he was a child. At 29, he is the right age for the role and also boasts Superman’s characteristics with his chiseled chin, blue eyes, jet black hair, and a height of 6’4”. It’s just unclear if DC would take a chance an on actor who hasn’t yet had his breakthrough.

Eli Goree is another name that arose quickly when it was revealed that DCU was looking for a young Superman. His name had already been in the running for Superman after it was announced Ta-Nehisi Coates was developing a Superman reboot centered on Calvin Ellis. However, young Superman offers another perfect role for the young actor. The award-winning actor has starred in Riverdale, The Peripheral, and One Night in Miami. Needless to say, he has proven that he boasts incredible talent in a wide range of genres. At 6’2,” 28 years of age, and the physique to portray a professional boxer, he is an excellent choice for Superman.
Adam DiMarco

Adam DiMarco is another actor on the rise who bears a resemblance to Superman. He is most well-known for starring in Pillow Talk and The White Lotus. DiMarco isn’t the most prominent actor in Hollywood, but his roles in Disney channel originals like Radio Rebel and Zapped gained him a large fanbase. DiMarco also boasts an uncanny physical resemblance to Superman, plus charisma and acting skills. At roughly 31 years old, he is a strong candidate for a young Superman, and the role could give him his much-needed official breakthrough.
Fionn Whitehead

Fionn Whitehead only recently entered the film industry, kicking off his debut as the lead protagonist in the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk. While the first film he starred in gained eight Academy Awards, he has gone on to star in Emily and the upcoming Great Expectations film. At 25 years old, his breakthrough in Dunkirk was unexpected and impressive. It wouldn’t be surprising for some big franchises to be casting their eyes on the relative newcomer, Whitehead, for future roles.
David Alvarez

At age 28, David Alvarez is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, with his most significant acting credit being his role as Bernardo in the 2021 musical, West Side Story. Aside from West Side Story, Alvarez has only appeared in short films. However, he has been acting his whole life and was one of the youngest actors to receive a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his stint as Billy Elliot in Billy Elliot the Musical. Nabbing his first feature film debut in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is the only testimony needed for his acting skills. He’s also the right age for Superman, in physical shape for the role, and has the necessary experience and skill.
With some major films still on the horizon written and shot before James Gunn stepped in as co-CEO of DC Studios, it’s impossible to know what the future of DC movies will look like. Fortunately, Gunn himself hopped onto Twitter to update the general population as to whether or not a complete recast is happening. With films that have long been in development hanging in the balance like The Flash or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it would be rather strange just to scrap everything.
This story is still developing, so there’s no final word on the subject. That being said, some wild fan theories have been floating around. Some theories say that only heroes that James Gunn has worked on personally, like The Suicide Squad or Peacemaker will stick around, while others say that the whole DC universe is getting rebooted.
Gunn, on the other hand, was careful to rebuff those claims and point out that he has no intention of recasting the entire DC roster. While of course, it’s easy to jump to conclusions after Henry Cavill’s departure from his Superman role, it’s important to keep a level head about these kinds of changes. As you can see, the whole slate isn’t just going to be wiped clean.
There’s no other major news to report at the moment on this matter, but James Gunn did also confirm that Blue Beetle is still slated for release next year.

Just saying what I heard.” Which lead to the shutdown of all shutdowns when Gunn fired back with:

Meanwhile, fans across the internet have been celebrating the 44th anniversary of Christopher Reeve’s iconic first performance as the son of Krypton in Superman: The Movie. Everyone has been sharing what they loved about Reeve’s performance and why he was excellent as both Superman and Clark Kent.

Netflix continues its savage run of canceling fledgling shows after just one season when it announced today that fantasy show The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself would not be returning for a second season. The new show had a small but dedicated following and many are maligning Netflix’s lack of marketing and promotion for the show’s failure. – Gizmodo

This weekend’s hot mess involves Elon Musk forcing employees to sign draconian NDAs in order to stop the flood of leaks of internal communications and information since he took over the company. He wasn’t really all that cool when he first hit the scene. I mean, don’t get me wrong. He was still pretty popular. There was like… a Black Sabbath song about him I think? Idk some Dad music. But he got SUPER popular when he was played by Robert Downey Jr. in 2008. And it’s all been uphill from there.
9. Thor

Thor is also what we call “new popular”. He wasn’t really all that back when his first comics started. Tbh I thought he looked like kind of a dork with the winged helmet. He debuted in Journey Into Mystery #83 all the way back in the 1960s. But it wasn’t till the Avengers movies took off that he saw his popularity soar. The first Thor movie was okay, but he didn’t hit home with fans. But then the people at Marvel had the bright idea to make him comic relief in movies like Thor: Ragnorok and the fans went wild. And who wouldn’t go wild over Chris Hemsworth, am I right?
8. The Incredible Hulk

Okay so the Incredible Hulk was always cool, but a lot of people didn’t give him the time of day because his mild-mannered Bruce Banner persona wasn’t as cool as, say Bruce Wayne. I mean Bruce Banner is kind of a nerd, and nerds weren’t really in for a while. Now nerds are so in; basically everyone on Earth is a nerd in some fandom right now. Just wasn’t the case back then. But what’s not to love about a guy who turns huge and green and smashes things when he gets mad? I wish I could do that.

Wolverine was also always cool, but again, he didn’t get MEGA cool until he a Hollywood makeover. The original Wolverine is kinda ugly. He’s short, stocky, hairy, and looks like he got punched in the face one too many times. He’s not exactly movie-star quality. Then some genius of a casting director decided that Hugh Jackman would be a perfect fit and the rest was history. Besides, he’s got KNIVES IN HIS HANDS. So cool. Yeah he’s cutting up his sandwich with them. Wouldn’t you?
5. Wonder Woman

You see that woman with the rippling biceps? That’s Wonder Woman. She’s in the big leagues. She’s been popular forever, and is arguably the most popular female superhero of all time. She’s got it all: brains, beauty, and a hero’s heart. Ugh. I just wanna be her. She grew up in a community of Amazonian warrior women, and is the strongest of them all. She was always a heavy hitter on the popularity front, but her popularity shot up even further now that she’s played by the incredible Gal Godot in the movies.
6. Captain America

To be honest, America is kind of a scary place to be right now, but Captain America makes it just a little bit brighter. He was a symbol of American strength and resilience since the 1940s. He has his roots in antifascism, and he was pictured punching Hitler in his debut comic in 1941. He represents all of the best parts of American ideals: courage, optimism, and tolerance of all cultures and beliefs (except for fascism). It also helps that he was played by that hottie Chris Evans and now second hottie Anthony Mackie. Definitely a popularity booster.
4. Black Panther

WAKANADA FOREVER! Omg sorry I just get really excited whenever I talk about Black Panther. I’m a big fan. His popularity EXPLODED back in 2018 with the release of the first Black Panther film. It was the first Marvel film with a Black director and a predominately Black cast, and was also the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture. Needless to say, it’s a serious touchstone in pop culture. T’Challa was played by the late, great actor Chadwick Boseman. A modern cinema legend.
3. Superman

You see those three dudes in the middle of the table? Those are the Big Three. The most popular superheroes of all time. And you see that guy in the red cape who also looks suspiciously similar to a certain mild-mannered journalist at the Daily Planet? Yeah, that’s Superman. He was one of the first superheroes ever conceived. He also has antifascist roots. He was created by two Jewish illustrators named Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938 to beat the shit out of Nazis, and his name, Kal-El, is a Hebrew phrase meaning “God is in everything”. This guy didn’t need Hollywood to make him popular, he had been a legend for DECADES.
2. Batman

See that guy in the dark cape next to Superman? He’s vengeance. He’s the night. He’s totally NOT a billionaire playboy named Bruce Wayne. What gave you that idea? Batman was created by Bob Kane in 1939, and since then he’s aged like the fine wine in Bruce Wayne’s mansion. But again, he’s totally not Bruce Wayne. Batman has it all. He’s got the dark past, the utility belt full of gizmos, and the mind of a master detective, and the body of a black-belt martial artist. He also didn’t need help from Hollywood, but one could argue that The Dark Knight is the greatest superhero movie of all time. Bruce Wayne is even in it! And yes, it is totally a coincidence that he and Batman are never in a scene together.
1. Spiderman

Okay, see the cute kid sitting in between Batman and Superman? The kid who caught that redhead and her lunch tray when she tripped earlier? That’s the most popular superhero of all time: Spiderman. There have been a few Spidermans (a whole Spiderverse of them, actually) but the first and most famous is Peter Parker. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, and has gone on to sell BILLIONS of dollars worth of comics and movies. Peter Parker is unstoppable, probably because he’s so charming! What’s not to love about a loud-mouthed kid from Queens? I know I love him. I pass notes to him in class all the time. He stopped opening them, but I know if I keep trying he’ll dump that ginger and take me to prom.
DC has a reputation for making gritty movies. While it works sometimes, Henry Cavill says when he makes his big return as Superman in an upcoming movie, he is looking forward to a more hopeful version of the character. Cavill previously appeared in director Zack Snyder’s DC films, which tended to take Superman into the shadows. There are definitely arcs within the comics that see Superman in that kind of light, but they’re not really the truest to the character.
Superman has long been considered a boy scout. He’s your prototypical superhero, stopping runaway trains, and rescuing damsels in distress, all with a smile and a wave. After a while, writers got bored of that whole schtick and started asking questions. What’s left for the man who has everything? What are the limits of corruption for an infinitely powerful being? These questions gave rise to an unstoppable, darker Superman, who would frequently be at odds with other heroes and villains alike.
Henry Cavill recently sat down with ScreenRantto talk about his take on Superman. The interview was about Enola Holmes 2, but since Superman appears in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, questions were bound to arise. Cavill said:
Obviously, I have a very close connection to the character. And there is something extraordinarily special about him; extraordinarily special about his capacity to give and to love. I don’t mean romantically; I mean his love for Earth and for the people who live here, and to make people feel powerful—to make people feel like Superman themselves. I have plenty of desires for this, of course, which will be discussed more in time. But the most important thing, which I will be aiming for, is for the audience to leave the cinema and to feel like they can fly, to feel like they can protect, and to feel like they want to give to everyone else. That would be my goal.
Black Adam is now playing in theaters. Enola Holmes 2 debuts on Netflix on November 4. Warner Bros. has yet to announce when or where Cavill’s Superman may appear next.

Today, Netflix announced that The Witcher will be back for a fourth season. However, it wasn’t all good news, as the streamer also confirmed that Henry Cavill will not be returning for season 4. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will be the new monster slayer, Geralt of Rivia.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular Witcher books first started airing in 2019 and quickly exploded in popularity, with many praising Henry Cavill’s stoic but charming take on the white-haired witcher himself, Geralt. Since that first season, The Witcher has become a bonafide franchise for Netflix, leading to more seasons, anime prequels, movies, and even a child-friendly spin-off. But the star of the original series won’t be sticking around as the fantasy franchise grows.
In a tweet posted earlier today, Netflix confirmed that Cavill will be stepping away from the role after season three of the Witcher airs…sometime in the future. Starting in season four, Liam Hemsworth will be joining the “Witcher family” and will wear the white wig and carry the cool swords as Geralt moving forward.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” said Cavill in a statement shared by Netflix.

“As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” continued Cavill, “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Hemsworth, a Witcher fan himself, also shared a statement about the surprising news, saying that he’s been a fan of Cavill’s take on the character for years and that he was “inspired” by his performance and what he brought to the character.
“I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” said Hemsworth.
The initial reaction online has been…not great! Many fans are confused and upset to see Cavill leave the role. And while it’s likely he’s hanging up the swords and the medallion to replace it with a red cape and tights as he returns to the DCEU film franchise as Superman, I assume many Witcher fans will be saddened to see the nerdy actor leave the popular show. But hey, with all that DC money he can probably build an even cooler PC!
