Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, are embroiled in a high-stakes legal battle with their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, over their late father Sunjay Kapur’s vast estate, valued at Rs 30,000 crore.
Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor is in the news these days due to a big legal case. However, this case is not her personal one, but is related to her children Samaira and Kian. Actually, Karisma is appearing in the court on behalf of her children, but she herself is not a party to this case. Her lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani has clarified that Karisma does not want any personal financial benefit from this case. Her only objective is to ensure the financial security of the children, as her late ex-husband Sujay Kapoor wanted.
What did Karisma Kapoor’s lawyer say?
Jethmalani said in a TV debate that the purpose of this case is only to secure the legacy and future of the children. Sujay Kapoor had made a will and trust deed for his corporate assets in India and properties abroad. He said, “Karisma Kapoor doesn’t want anything for herself, the entire aim of this litigation is to secure her children in the manner in which her late ex-husband wanted them to be secure, which is as per a trust deed, which dealt with his assets in India, his corporate assets in India, and by and large his assets abroad, for which there was a will, which was never disclosed and neither has been a subject matter of probate, nor is it registered. So the battle is only about the assets which the will covers and not about the assets which the trust covers.”
What is the Sunjay Kapur assets controversy about?
According to reports, the total assets of late businessman Sujay Kapoor are said to be around Rs 30,000 crores. His wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor claims that as per Sujay’s will, Karisma’s children have been given assets worth Rs 1,900 crores. But Samaira and Kian have challenged this will in the court, calling it fake. Karisma’s lawyer Jethmalani said that the children’s right is not at anyone’s mercy, but it is Sujay Kapoor’s property, which they should get the right to. He raised the question that if Rs 1,900 crores are being given to the children, will Priya Sachdev leave the remaining assets worth Rs 28,000 crores? That is why this fight is to get the rightful inheritance of the children.
Along with Karisma’s children, Sujay Kapoor’s mother Rani Kapoor has also approached the court in this matter. She has also called the will presented by Priya fake, because nothing was left for them in it. The court has ordered Priya to disclose all the assets of her late husband. Now the next hearing of this case will be held in October.
