BTS member Suga fined, ‘deeply sorry’ for driving scooter while drunk – National | Globalnews.ca

Suga, of world-famous K-pop group BTS, had his South Korean driver’s licence revoked after he was caught riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. The singer (real name Min Yoon-gi) issued a public apology on Wednesday and said he was “deeply sorry” to bring the “disappointing news” to his fanbase.

Suga, 31, said he was riding his electric scooter home from a dinner where he’d been drinking alcohol.

“I thought it was a short distance and didn’t realize that you can’t ride an electric scooter while intoxicated, so I violated the road traffic laws,” he wrote in Korean.

He said he “fell over” while parking the scooter in front of his home, located in Seoul. A nearby police officer witnessed the star’s tumble from his e-scooter and had Suga complete a breathalyzer test.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said police revealed Suga’s blood alcohol concentration was at least 0.08 per cent, the legal benchmark for revoking a person’s licence.

Suga admitted to the licensure cancellation and said he also received a fine.

Suga was brought to the Yongsan Police Station for questioning. He was charged with violating the South Korean Road Traffic Act.

The singer was released after police questioning.

“No one was harmed or any facilities were damaged in the process, but this is my responsibility and I have no excuses, so I bow my head and apologize to everyone,” Suga wrote in his statement.

“I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my careless and wrong actions, and I will be more careful in my actions to avoid this from happening again.”

Suga is not an active member of BTS, which announced a hiatus in 2022. The break has allowed for the BTS members to pursue solo projects and to perform their mandatory military service, which Suga is currently completing.

The superstar is employed as a social service agent, an alternative form of military service that does not require someone to perform duties as a traditional soldier. Suga was assigned work as a social service agent after he was ruled unfit for regular combat duty, with local media speculating it’s because of a past shoulder injury.

Bighit, the record label that represents BTS, also issued a “sincere apology” for Suga’s behaviour. The label said Suga was wearing a helmet and travelled about 500 metres on his electric scooter.

    Story continues below advertisement

“As a social service agent during his military service, he is prepared to accept any disciplinary actions from his place of work for causing a social disturbance,” the company wrote. “We will take greater care to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.”

Suga’s military conscription is expected to end next June.

BTS is expected to reunite in 2025.

In Canada, it is also against the law to operate an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Driving any kind of motorized vehicle — including e-bikes and e-scooters — while intoxicated is considered illegal and could potentially lead to charges.

  • BTS: Kim Taehyung and Jennie Kim face nasty body-shaming comments as their fans fight it out on social media [Read Tweets] | Bollywood Life

BTS: Kim Taehyung and Jennie Kim face nasty body-shaming comments as their fans fight it out on social media [Read Tweets] | Bollywood Life

    [ad_1]

BTS member Kim Taehyung was in the news from May to September for his alleged dating rumours with Blackpink rapper Jennie Kim. The whole thing got rather disgusting with a spate of leaked pics that were allegedly hacked from the phone of the Blackpink star. There was no confirmation on the dating rumors from Big Hit Music or YG Entertainment. The latter however hinted at a breach of privacy. The rumours also sparked off toxic fights between BTS fans and Blackpink stans on social media. Jennie Kim’s dating history was dissected, and even GD Dragon, Jimin and Bang PD names were dragged into the whole mess.

The whole thing does not look like it will end soon. Of late, there are many tweets from rival fans blatantly body-shaming the two idols. As we know, Kim Taehyung aka BTS V is hailed as one of the world’s Most Handsome Men while Jennie Kim of Blackpink is termed as desirable by many magazine and polls. Both are music superstars and global icons in their own right. It looks like the whole thing started after Jennie Kim’s latest advertisement pics that got millions of likes. She was seen posing in Calvin Klein underwear. Take a look at the tweets…

Well, some ARMYs are clearly not impressed. As we know, body-shaming can be very damaging. The K-Pop scene is under a lot of scrutiny for how skinny most of the idols are. Genuine music fans told people to focus on the songs instead of going there….

We can see that the comments are quite disparaging. Blackpink and Jennie Kim are now in the US while Kim Taehyung of BTS is planning on his debut album. He might also travel to Mexico for a variety show as per rumours.

BTS member Jin’s Running Man telecast postponed, J-Hope deletes Halloween post after Itaewon stampede tragedy leaves 151 dead | Bollywood Life

    [ad_1]

It is a sad day for Korea. Last night, a terrible tragedy happened in Itaewon where people had gone to celebrate Halloween. There was a stampede that has left 151 dead, and the number of injured are close to 200. The President of Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol has announced national mourning till November 5. The telecast of all entertainment events has been postponed. Big Hit Music made an announcement that the Stationhead Listening Party for Astronaut has been cancelled. They have postponed the release of the Lyric Video too. It is understandable given the wave of grief in the nation. The saddest part is that the people dead are mostly teenagers or people in their 20s.

BTS member JHope had put up a funny post for Halloween but deleted it after the news broke out. All entertainment shows have been stopped. It seems a crowd of 100K had gathered in a narrow alley in Seoul’s Itaewon area. The locality which is a hub for locals and foreigners is known for Halloween parties. A number of people went there in costumes. It is not known what exactly triggered off the stampede. Now, survivors are sharing scary details of how the tragedy unfolded.

BTS member Jin is yet to get back to Korea from Argentina. He performed with Coldplay at the stadium in Buenos Aires. The singer gave an emotional performance before a packed crowd. Halloween is a big event in the K-Pop industry. We have parties held by agencies where idols turn up in costumes. This is the second terrible tragedy in Korea where young people lost their lives. The Seoul Ferry Tragedy is one of the worst involving young people.

BTS to enlist in South Korean military and regroup ‘around 2025’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

The longstanding debate is over — the seven members of BTS will fulfil their legal duty to perform military service in South Korea.

BigHit Music, the management company responsible for the internationally successful K-pop band, released a statement on Monday confirming the member’s upcoming miliary service.

For years, BTS fans have called for the members — Park Jimin, Kim Seok-jin (Jin), Jeon Jung-kook, Kim Nam-joon (RM), Min Yoon-gi (Suga), Jung Ho-seok (J-Hope) and Kim Tae-hyung (V) — to be exempt from mandatory service for their contributions to the South Korean economy and country’s reputation.

However, as is mandatory of all able-bodied South Korean men, the members of BTS will each serve almost two years in the military.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Group member Jin will initiate the process as soon as his schedule for his solo release is concluded at the end of October,” BTS’ management wrote in the statement. “He will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government. Other members of the group plan to carry out their military service based on their own individual plans.”

The two-time Grammy nominated band BTS will regroup “around 2025” when all seven men have finished military service, their management claimed.

In June, the members of BTS announced they would pause their group activities to pursue solo projects.

The break now allows the members to fulfil the South Korean military requirement for all men under 30 to serve between 18 and 21 months. (The members of BTS were all born between 1993 and 1997.)

    Story continues below advertisement

Refusing military service is a crime in South Korea that carries a possible jail sentence and negative social stigma.

The South Korean government has long since upheld that military service must be mandatory to protect against possible attack from North Korea. The two countries are still technically at war and have been since the 1950s.

There have only been a very select few South Koreans exempted from military service because of their international careers, including pianist Seong-jin Cho and Tottenham footballer Son Heung-min.

Earlier this year, BTS released their first anthology album Proof.

“We support and encourage our artists and are beyond proud that they will each now have time to explore their unique interests and do their duty by being of service to the country they call home,” wrote BTS’ agency.

The agency referenced the BTS song Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment), writing that the ballad “is more than a track from their latest album, it is a promise, there’s much more yet to come in the years ahead from BTS.”
