    Jenna Ortega is taking her press tour for Netflix’s new Addams Family series Wednesday very seriously, especially when it comes to her outfits. A month after wearing a completely sheer, black lace dress to Valentino’s S/S 23 show, the Gen Z darling wore a similar, albeit even more daring sheer, lace look for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This time, though, her dress featured a sky-high slit unlike any we’ve seen before. 

    For the show, Ortega and her stylist Enrique Melendez chose a long-sleeve, half French lace and half opaque dress from the fashion favorite label Dion Lee and a pair of Christian Louboutin platforms. In addition to the see-through material, it also featured cutouts around the ribs and up to the actress’s hip on one side. Bold? Yes. Shockingly pretty? Also yes.

    Looking good in photos is a skill that can be taught (hence the number of stories we’ve published on the subject), and one of the easiest ways to control that is what you wear. As you probably suspected, some colors look much better than others on camera, and who better to tell us exactly what they are than Lee Eiseman, the executive director at Pantone Color Institute and author of the book The Complete Color Harmony, Pantone Edition?

    When it comes to the worst color to wear in photos, Eiseman told us, “Solid colors are always best, as opposed to patterns. Very pale pastels and whites can make the subject looked washed-out. However, color in makeup can help considerably, especially professional makeup application. Cameras sometimes have difficulty adjusting between very bright contrasts, so it’s best to keep brights as solid pieces as opposed to separates.”

    So what should you wear? Eiseman gave plenty of options for what colors to embrace, explaining that “the best colors are deep reds, teals/turquoises, and other shades in the blue-green family (the most universally flattering family of all colors). Rich and deeper greens, purples, and blue are all good. If a neutral is preferred, gray is the best, even better than black. Earthy and warm browns are good. Black and white together can offer too much contrast as well. Mid-tone or more vibrant rose-pink tones and corals are flattering.”

    How would you describe your everyday style, and how are you switching it up for fall?

    With a hybrid work schedule, my outfits can change drastically throughout the week—I’ll wear everything from casual knit sets to tailored separates. However, I tend to stick with pieces that don’t take a lot of effort to style, which means lots of simple trousers, solid-colored tops, and neutral sweaters. Last season, I was really into bright colors, but the cooler temperatures influenced me to embrace strong neutrals like navy and dark green along with materials like tweed and cashmere.

    What makes this the perfect athleisure look, and how does it make you feel?

    This look feels very L.A. Everyone likes to wear athleisure-inspired outfits around here, so the leggings and sporty jacket are right in line with that laid-back vibe. I tend to stick with all black for my athletic looks, but the punchy, electric-blue sneakers and trendy shield sunglasses make the entire outfit feel cooler than the norm. It’s nice that these sneakers are easy on the feet and still look good. I don’t really have to worry about packing an extra pair of shoes to slip on after my a.m. workout.

    What are your tips and tricks for styling running shoes on those days when you’re doing more than running or exercising?

    Generally, stick to one color palette. Don’t try to mix a ton of colors, shapes, and silhouettes. When in doubt, minimalistic pieces are much easier to style with running sneakers than sporty pieces that have a ton of bells and whistles.

    You’d think after being in three weddings in the last year that my dress-planning energy and bank account would sweat at the thought of purchasing another dress for a wedding weekend, but here I am with this trend I accidentally started: wedding-party second looks.     There were a lot of thrills on the S/S 23 runways, but in my book, the moment that bested them all belonged to Saint Laurent. In a dazzling presentation set against the Eiffel Tower, Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello sent down one of his strongest silhouettes to date: padded-shoulder maxi coats layered over skintight jumpsuits and body-hugging maxi dresses. While Vaccarello also heavily showcased sheer dresses and seductive midriff cutouts, it was this maxi coat-and-dress pairing that ruled the show (14 out of its 49 looks to be exact). And apparently, I wasn’t the only fan.     As someone who just last month went to her first true ballet, I can say from experience how tricky of an event it is to dress for. Part of that it is because of the allure and exclusivity of it.     But contrary to what you’ve seen in the society pages, experiencing the beauty of a ballet at one of the world’s top theaters isn’t always a glitzy event. Sometimes, say if the performance you’re going to see is taking place in the daytime, the dress code can be quite pared-back. Then again, no one’s going to say a word if you doll it up a little. Really, it’s all about your personal style preferences. According to the New York City Ballet, that and your comfort level are all that matters.
