  • I Spent Over 150 Hours Traveling Last Year—5 Outfits Always in My Carry-On

I Spent Over 150 Hours Traveling Last Year—5 Outfits Always in My Carry-On

    [ad_1]

I’ve always joked that I would live my life out of a suitcase if I could. Although that’s theoretically impossible with the state of my closet, I’m as close as I’ll ever get. After 24 years of long-haul trips and more airline miles than a Victorian-era child could ever imagine, I’ve perfected the art of packing thanks to smart, thoughtful outfit choices that will last me a week and a half that fit in just a carry-on suitcase.

Since worldwide shutdowns nearly two years ago, 2022 was a return to traveling for me. In total, I racked up over 150 hours on the go, including heading to Japan to see family, meeting up with friends in Spain, and taking road trips throughout California and New York. If I hadn’t had packing down to a science at this point, I don’t know how I would have done it.

With the amount of airline rerouting and luggage delays nowadays, no one needs infinitely more stress when it comes to packing for a weekend trip if your luggage gets lost. Although it hasn’t happened to me yet (fingers crossed!), the number of horror stories I’ve seen on social media has made me begin to pack a few days’ worth of clothing I carry with me at all times.

Below are the foolproof outfits I pack each time I escape the city and travel somewhere new.

  • According to Celebs, Thigh-High Boots Are the It Shoes of 2023—Here’s Proof

According to Celebs, Thigh-High Boots Are the It Shoes of 2023—Here’s Proof

    [ad_1]

Leave it to celebs to be fashion’s earliest adopters. Sure, we may still only be at the crack of 2023 but our favorite A-listers are already testing out one of next season’s most notable emerging trends: over-the-knee boots. Now, knee boots have reigned supreme for several seasons but based on our evidence, spring 2023 is when our staple boots will start creeping ever higher over the knee.

They’ve been making a big impact on recent runways, too, cameoing at Diesel, Fendi, Jil Sander, and Bottega Veneta, just to name a few and while our initial reaction was one of hesitation since OTK boots are notoriously tricky to style, we’re positive that they’ll become the biggest boot trend of spring 2023 after seeing how celebs are wearing them.

From Rihanna to Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa to Margot Robbie, the sheer number of celebrity outfits we’ve spotted with over-the-knee boots have us questioning whether they’ll replace our knee boots for good. All the proof your need is up ahead.

9 Comfortable Winter Outfits French Girls Always Fall Back On

    [ad_1]

French women certainly know how to dress up, but if there’s a type of outfit they really excel at putting together, it’s a comfortable one. And since winter is in full swing, let’s talk about cold-weather looks that Parisian women love to wear. As far as winter weather in Paris goes, I’d compare it to the U.S.’s Northeast (but perhaps just a touch milder). All in all, there are plenty of opportunities to wear winter outfits.

The hallmarks of a French-girl winter outfit are that it includes chic outerwear and isn’t constricting. The shoes (usually boots or sneakers) are walkable, and the accessories are cozy. Based on the following outfits, the French really understand the importance of layering in the winter, and they prioritize comfort more than being trendy. The classic outfits French women are known for apply in winter too.

Keep scrolling for nine excellent examples of the comfortable winter outfits French women rely on and shop key pieces to re-create them yourself.

  • Every Solid 2023 Outfit Starts With These Trendy Basics

Every Solid 2023 Outfit Starts With These Trendy Basics

    [ad_1]

If you’re looking for a few new outfit formulas to mix into your rotation, you’ve landed in the perfect spot. Below, I’m sharing a range of stylish ensembles to consider. While each look is unique in its own right, there is a common thread to note: Yep, each outfit features a trendy basic

Given that basics act as the foundational elements in a solid look, it probably doesn’t come as much of a shock that some of my favorite recent outfit ideas start with next-level basics. For reference, the basics in question fall in that “trendy” category because they’re highly versatile like a tried-and-true basic, but also have a forward element to make them especially modern.

Keep scrolling to check out 2023 outfit ideas that feature a trendy basic as the hero piece.

  • My Favorite Celeb Looks Happen Courtside—7 Outfits I’d Wear to a Game

My Favorite Celeb Looks Happen Courtside—7 Outfits I’d Wear to a Game

    [ad_1]

Fashion people are stereotyped as being more interested in the latest controversial runway trend than sports. I grew up as an overly dedicated football fan, so for me, that isn’t necessarily true. If you’re a person who loves fashion and sports, I can guess that you already know the thrill of getting dressed up to go to a basketball game.

Contrary to sporting events where the stars hide in private boxes, the best part of an NBA game is seeing your favorite celebrities front and center. Since they’re wildly on display when seated courtside, celebrities tend to arrive dressed to impress, which always inspires me to do the same.

In 2023, I want to do more activities in New York City, so I decided that a trip to Barclays Center is definitely on my to-do list. As I start to think about what I’ll wear to this exciting event, I’m browsing my favorite celebrity courtside moments. Below, find seven potential outfits to choose from.

  • I Just Built 5 Expensive-Looking Outfits from ASOS and H&M

I Just Built 5 Expensive-Looking Outfits from ASOS and H&M

    [ad_1]

We fashion editors are often asked about how to curate the perfect wardrobe, and the answer is often the same: versatility. In an ideal world, your wardrobe should include some timeless, premium pieces mixed in amongst more affordable trend-led items (extra points for any vintage and secondhand pieces you can wear). This mix of brands and price points will help your clothing will reflect your personality, and above all else, dressing in a way that is true to you is what makes fashion fun.

That being said, I totally understand the appeal of building a capsule wardrobe from just one store. First of all, it’s an effective use of your time. (No one wants to traipse around the shops or endlessly scroll through every new-in section.) And secondly, pieces from the same store tend to look seamlessly pulled together as we know all too well that a brand’s honed aesthetic can make or break your chances of shopping success. Two of the brands that we spend the most time looking at are ASOS and H&M. The sites are veritable treasure troves of new-in pieces ranging from affordable takes on runway trends to everyday basics, so there’s an overwhelming amount to sift through. That’s where we step in. Below, I’ve assembled five expensive-looking outfits that are guaranteed to work for every occasion in your social calendar.

  • Kendall and Hailey Just Made Wearing This Unexpected Item With Leggings a Thing

Kendall and Hailey Just Made Wearing This Unexpected Item With Leggings a Thing

    [ad_1]

Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber spend a lot of time attending workout classes. Therefore, they spend a lot of time in leggings. And as you’ve probably noticed, their innate stylishness doesn’t stop at the hot pilates door. It carries over into everything they do, so it’s worth paying attention to their looks—even when they’re going to a pilates class.

Given that leggings are such a staple in the wardrobes of Bieber and Jenner, you can always count on them to come up with new ways to style them. It’s even better when they style them very similarly for the same outing (guess they’re on the same wavelength). This finally brings me to my point: This week, the duo both styled their leggings with leather jackets. Bieber wore her flared ones with a black leather trench and Jenner wore her basic black ones with a brown leather bomber jacket. They went out to lunch after their class, which proves that pairing your workout outfit with a sleek leather jacket makes it instantly appropriate for going somewhere that doesn’t involve sweating.

Scroll on to see their chic legging looks and shop leather jackets to pair with leggings.

My Mom Is 63, and I’m 34—We’re Editing Our Closets and Like These J.Crew Items

    [ad_1]

My mother and I are spending the first part of the New Year sorting our closets in an effort to get rid of what’s not working for us anymore. The goal is to edit and not to replace everything we’re ditching, but it’s also a time we’re both looking at our wardrobes to identify any holes where a fresh piece or two could be worth it. And while age has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t wear, it’s fun to note that my mom and I tend to gravitate toward similar pieces and trends—despite our 29-year age difference. (I’m 34, and she’s 63.) Furthermore, one store we both love for uncovering wardrobe staples just so happens to be J.Crew.

On that note, we actually went into a J.Crew store over the holidays and also scrolled through the site to identify the items we both like. To give you shopping inspiration, I decided to highlight the five womenswear items I especially liked from my mom’s list, including the sweater J.Crew designer Olympia Gayot is wearing above. Keep scrolling to check out the items in question (the first grouping below). I also rounded up a range of other chic J.Crew pieces that could pique your interest.

I’m a Former Nordstrom Stylist—This Is My 2023 Capsule Wardrobe

    [ad_1]

Capsule wardrobes make the art of getting dressed that much easier with the idea that a few core staples can be mixed and matched to create a range of standout looks. While everyone’s personal style certainly varies, we’re routinely intrigued by how various creatives define their capsule wardrobes for potential inspiration. And that’s where Jennifer Sattler comes in. She’s currently a stylist and the mastermind behind Closet Choreography. She also worked as a stylist at Nordstrom for years, so her sartorial point of view is, well, on point. And her 2023 capsule wardrobe is quite noteworthy.

“So many of us choose to start over and redo our wardrobes at the start of the new year,” Sattler said. “If you’ve decided it’s time for a new wardrobe, make sure you have these eight closet essentials below.” With that in mind, keep scrolling to find Sattler’s 2023 checklist, complete with a range of shopping recommendations if you want to add the items to your own capsule wardrobe.

48 New Shopbop Finds That Are Perfectly On-Trend for 2023

    [ad_1]

At the start of every year, I’m always inspired to browse around what my friends and colleagues are writing about. Namely, I’m looking at things on our wish list, this year’s upcoming trends, and what’s worth your money in a sea of not-so-great products brands promise to deliver on in 2023. Now that New Year’s Eve has come and gone, the only thing on my mind is filling my closet with this year’s splurge-worthy and affordable finds. As always, Shopbop never fails to deliver.

Yes, 2023 promises to bring inclusive denim and anythingcore-inspired aesthetics for any rhyme or reason (hello, gorpcore parachute pants!), but nowadays, trends are fleeting, going as quickly as they come on our radar. With that said, there’s nothing quite as alluring as finding a long-lasting hidden gem of a style that’s sure to last through 2023.

Below are all the must-have finds you need to be ahead of this year’s trends. You can thank me later.

These 7 Outerwear Trends Will Be Most Popular in 2023

    [ad_1]

Contrary to popular belief, I love the wintertime. My resume wouldn’t tell you that though: after 23 years in Miami, people are surprised to hear that chilly weather brings out the best in me. To be fair, it’s only for one reason: winter outerrwear trends. Now that it’s cold, it’s time for me to really start dressin’.

As a born and bred Floridian who’s beginning to experiment with seasonal dressing for the first time in her life, I’ve been drawn to streetstyle and runway imagery focusing on coats and jackets. While it’s tempting to put on my favorite big black puffer jacket and call it a day, the art of layering is one I’m adopting into my wardrobe. Naturally, with a ton of layers comes even more fun outerwear.

Below, 7 outerwear trends that I’m getting ahead of and incorporating into my closet before they’re everywhere in 2023. Hurry though— add these to your cart before people catch wind and sell them out. Thank me later!

  • It’s Peak Bad Girl Fashion Era, 7 Outfits That Prove It

It’s Peak Bad Girl Fashion Era, 7 Outfits That Prove It

    [ad_1]

When Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad album dropped, no black corset or edgy bob cut was safe. Rihanna’s transformation from a fresh-faced girl next door to an It-girl siren felt like a dramatic shift out of nowhere and the whole world took notice. Right about now, there’s a similar moment happening in fashion. While LBDs and stilettos have always been a regular part of the It-girl style diet, looking at the crowd of designers who have put their full weight behind underwear-exposing pieces, and skin-tight bodysuits, it feels like a very defined shift towards the risqué side of things. There’s no buzzy, collective name for it, but with the influx of see-through statement dresses and sky-high revenge heels, I’ve taken to calling it the Bad Girl fashion era.

Just looking at the warm reception of Saint Laurent and Alaia’s spring-summer 2023 offerings, it’s pretty evident that showing skin is in. While the Bad Girl aesthetic is multi-faceted, the general approach is to stick with skin-exposing cutouts or underwear-revealing garments in shades of black. For those daring enough to take on the trend, I’ve compiled a list of 7 amazing outfits to reference to get the seductive mood right. Keep clicking for the best in show of Bad Girl fashion.

  • I Have a Baby Shower to Attend, So I Spent Hours Searching for the Best Outfits

I Have a Baby Shower to Attend, So I Spent Hours Searching for the Best Outfits

    [ad_1]

We may no longer be in the thick of wedding season, but baby shower season, however, is pretty much year round (it’s not quite the kind of thing you can put a timer on). While you’ve likely celebrated a number of milestones with loved ones, from graduations to big birthdays and bachelorette parties, there’s a certain excitement that comes with celebrating when someone close to you is expanding their family. First things first, perhaps a gift for the expecting parents, but immediately thereafter: what to wear? Luckily, figuring out what to wear to a winter baby shower is as simple as digging into the vault of your favorite winter outfit ideas.

When in doubt, you can always refer to details on the invitation (or check with the host) for any need-to-know details around how formal the event will be, and whether or not there is a color theme to follow. If the dress code is less defined, however, your best bet is often to forgo casual styles such as jeans and t-shirts, and opt for something fresh, fun, and festive. Think pastel colors (they may match the decor, and will look great in photos), florals, and if you must wear black (it’s not totally forbidden), opt for something printed, light, and airy. Where winter baby showers are concerned, a stylish coat and trendy boots also come to mind.

This probably already has planning your outfit feeling like less of a daunting task (because it doesn’t have to be!), and naturally, there’s even more helpful inspiration ahead.

This Is the One Item I Always Wear When I Want to Look Chic and Cozy

    [ad_1]

Among my friends, I’ve always been known as the one who, despite working in the fashion industry, couldn’t care less about putting myself in pain for cute clothing. Sweats to go out for a nightcap on a Saturday? It’s more likely than you’d think.

My sense of style is at the intersection of cute and comfortable—a fresh take on the age-old grandma-chic look. I stopped wearing high heels a year ago, and black leggings are my go-to garment of choice. All of this is to say it takes a lot for me to adopt something into my wardrobe that doesn’t get me excited about fashion again. Enter the quilted jacket, a seasonal staple that’s the gift that keeps on giving.

If you aren’t converted yet, let me help you. Quilted jackets are my personal savior. As I’m someone who’s getting adjusted to living in New York from Miami (hello, seasons!), a slightly oversize jacket is the key to success. There’s a color and pattern for everyone, from vibrant patchwork pieces to iconic army-green garments à la The Frankie Shop. The beauty of a quilted jacket is its versatility. I’ve worn the style both over my sriracha-stained pajama pants and over an expensive-looking cashmere turtleneck. Truly, you can’t go wrong.

    [ad_1]

I like embellishments, dramatic layering, platform heels and over accessorizing as much as (if not more than) the next person, but admittedly, dressing to the nines at all times can leave anyone with a bit of decision fatigue. Let alone that dreaded feeling of looking at a full closet of statement pieces (rather than staples) and feeling like you have “nothing to wear.” That said, even as a fashion writer whose job lies in scoping out innovative trends, sometimes there’s an even greater satisfaction in nailing the art of a really simple, but equally cute outfit.

I’m talking the kind outfits that you reach for when you do indeed have an itinerary of things to do for the day, but want to look put together without all the extra effort. As it would have it, building a wardrobe around these kinds of outfits will likely leave you investing in versatile staples.
