  • I Never Want to Shop in January, But These 15 Items Made Me Drop Everything

I Never Want to Shop in January, But These 15 Items Made Me Drop Everything

    [ad_1]

I don’t think anyone is trying to pretend that January is the most exciting month of the year. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it can be downright dull (and cold). I personally don’t have a ton of events on my social calendar this month so I hadn’t been all that inspired to shop, but I do have more time to shop for myself than I did over the past couple of months, so there’s that…

My previous statement about not being inspired to shop was in the past tense because that was before I came back after the holiday break and started working on a fresh batch of stories (which require a fresh batch of items to shop). The 15 items below, in particular, really made an impact on me and have snapped me out of my shopping disinterest. Among them are the perfect pair of H&M flats, a trendy new pair of J.Crew jeans, and that viral TOTEME scarf jacket in a brand new color. Scroll to shop these and more, all of which are likely to cheer you up this long, wintery January.

I Love to Travel Whenever I Get the Chance—These 30 Items Always Come With Me

    [ad_1]

I love to travel. In 2022 I traveled more than any year before and now that we’re entering 2023 I plan to travel just as much, hopefully more. It’s safe to say that my 2023 vision board is filled with images of airplane windows with a view of some glamorous European city peering through, groups of friends holding passports, and lots of travel outfit ideas. Now with traveling so much comes lots and lots of packing and unpacking, and while I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an expert packer I have found some items that make the packing process a little bit easier. I’m talking packing cubes, convenience kits, and even an herbal supplement that helps with jet lag. I want us all to be living our best jet setter lives, so I rounded up the best travel items from Amazon, Shopbop, Revolve, and Nordstrom.

  • Buh-Bye, Cutouts and Hello, Negative Space—6 Ways to Wear the Trend

Buh-Bye, Cutouts and Hello, Negative Space—6 Ways to Wear the Trend

    [ad_1]

To put it plainly, 2022 was the year of the cutout, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the various iterations from Jonathan Simkhai’s iconic waist cutouts to Euphoria-esque G-string pants. This year, what the cutouts reveal is just as important as the cutouts themselves—hence I dub the evolution of this trend “negative space.” While cutouts imply something being taken away, the negative-space trend focuses on what fills the void. Whether it be vignettes of the human form or an interesting web of shapes created via layering techniques, this trend plays tricks on the eyes, often leaving you with more questions than answers.

Many refer to this evolution of cutouts as subversive, drawing on the tradition of Rick Owens and others who subvert the industry’s notions of beauty to create something beautiful themselves. It feels very continuous in this tradition while also extending the field of market options to include traditionally pretty versions of the trend too, so there’s truly something for everyone.

Keep scrolling to see my favorite six ways to get in on the trend. Trust me—you’ll understand why every designer is tapping in.

  • 5 Easy Mistakes to Make When Buying a Designer Bag (and How to Avoid Them)

5 Easy Mistakes to Make When Buying a Designer Bag (and How to Avoid Them)

    [ad_1]

Deciding to take the plunge and invest in a designer bag is kind of a big deal, as far as fashion purchases go. And whether it’s your first one or your fifteenth, it’s still pretty thrilling. That said, there’s a lot to take into account when making such a significant purchase, and if you want it to be one you can wear for years to come, the purchase carries even more weight.

Since I live in a city that’s devoid of many places to purchase a designer bag in person, the majority of my bag purchases have been made online. For that reason, I’ve really honed my bag-shopping skills and have a list of things I look for when considering a bag. I’ve found that there are certain aspects of a handbag that may not initially come to mind but that you may find cumbersome once you’ve lived with it for awhile.

Below, I’ve compiled my shortlist of bag-buying mistakes that are surprisingly easy to make so perhaps they can help to inform your next bag purchase. Read on for the list and to shop designer bags that definitely aren’t mistakes in my book.

  • I Just Got Back From Aspen—9 Trends I Packed to Get the Après-Ski Look

I Just Got Back From Aspen—9 Trends I Packed to Get the Après-Ski Look

    [ad_1]

Is it just me, or are everyone and their mother vacationing in Aspen right now? But unlike last summer when the entirety of my Instagram feed was relaxing on chaise longues in Positano while I set up shop on a patch of grass along the Hudson River, I got to be one of them this time. Ahead of the holiday rush, I spent four days in the celeb-favorite travel destination to celebrate the opening of Canada Goose x Reformation’s pop-up shop at the St. Regis. And just like the A-listers who’ve been spotted there of late, I put a lot of thought into what I packed.

Aspen more than almost anywhere I’ve ever been gives off the “be seen” vibe. In other words, when you’re there, you always want to have on a cool outfit, even if you’re physically on the slopes, après-skiing at Ajax Tavern, or simply hanging out in the lobby of your hotel. So naturally, when I found out about the trip, I quickly made a point to source trends that fit that energy. Ahead, see which ones I settled on for the trip. Hint: Expect puffer jackets, shearling coats, and, of course, a balaclava.

  • 30 Ways Everyone’s Styling Flats With Dresses in 2023

30 Ways Everyone’s Styling Flats With Dresses in 2023

    [ad_1]

When Victoria Beckham said, “I can’t concentrate in flats,” I felt that in my soul. Before it was even deemed “apropos,” I tried to walk in heels at a very young age. Like Beckham, I’ve always been an avid collector of heels and have rarely worn flats. But things have changed over the past few years, and I’ve slowly come around to the idea of pushing aside my heels occasionally for a pair of flats. In part, that shift is due to the rise of cool shoe trends (e.g., ballet flats and cowboy boots) that have made embracing this style more tantalizing. But it’s also because I’ve noticed a styling trend among the fashion set that can’t be ignored: flats worn with dresses.

As someone who loves a good dress just as much as heels, I was dubious when my feed began to be flooded with the styling trend. However, after further research, I’ve realized that styling flats with dresses is the move in 2023. And to prove that point, I’ve found 30 outfit ideas that show how to wear flats with a dress. Plus, I’ve identified the best shoe styles to wear with dresses. Whether you’re a die-hard flats fan or need to give your feet a break, these styling pairings will come in handy all year.

I’m an NYC-Based Editor Who Just Escaped to the Mountains—These Items Came With

    [ad_1]

Every holiday season, I retreat from my tiny apartment in SoHo and escape to Colorado to spend time with my family and get a much-needed change of scenery. This year, in particular, I couldn’t wait. I was spending my time in Colorado at The Halcyon Cherry Creek hotel, which is something I was most excited about. This hotel has such a special place in my heart, it’s right near my grandmothers home and its the coziest boutique hotel. It was the perfect place for my Colorado getaway. Sharing big white robes and champagne with my sister was high on my list of priorities for my trip. Along with playing cards with my mother and grandmother, going to dinner and drinks with my two sisters, going on family outings to see a holiday version of Cirque du Soleil, and getting the best facial I’ve ever gotten at The Four Seasons in Denver. What else could you ask for on a holiday winter vacation?

For all of the fun things on my very packed Colorado itinerary, I had to make sure I brought some of my best winter outfits with me. After all, the holidays are such a fun time for outfit planning. I wore a red minidress from Nana Jacquline with a large bow on the back so I looked like I belonged under the tree. I mean, how cute is that? Another favorite look I wore on my trip was an all-white ALO outfit with the coziest beanie ever and classic mini Ugg boots.

  • Sophie Turner Went Pants-Less in a Blazer and Tights and Pulled It Off With Ease

Sophie Turner Went Pants-Less in a Blazer and Tights and Pulled It Off With Ease

    [ad_1]

Sophie Turner must get tired of people telling her that “winter is coming,” but when she wears an outfit like this, can you really blame us? Sophie, winter is here, where are your pants?

All Game of Thrones jokes aside, we’re into this savvy style statement. The actress and mother of two showed off her long legs in a gorgeous Ganni blazer paired with sheer black tights and the most perfect pointy-toe pumps. Given that she shared the photo on Instagram on January first, we have a feeling this was what she wore to ring in the New Year, and she certainly did so in style.

Upon closer inspection, the waist-defining button closure helps to make this garment look more like a dress with lapels, but trust us: it’s a jacket that could just as easily be worn with pants. But that doesn’t mean pants are required (although perhaps strongly suggested if you live somewhere it is currently snowing).

If you’re into the pants-less look, it’s actually quite simple to pull off. Just pair a slightly oversize blazer in a dark hue with matching tights (except nude), and coordinating heels. The entire outfit is probably already in your closet, but just in case, we’ve pulled a few pieces—including the Ganni blazer—that pair perfectly well together as a trio so you can save the pants for a snowy day.

J.Crew Casually Put a Ton Of Its New Arrivals On Sale—I’m Buying These 29 First

    [ad_1]

As a fashion editor who spends most of her time, both during the work day and long after it, scouring online stores for the next It thing, there are two specific things that get me really excited: sales and new arrivals. Sadly, I almost never get them in conjunction. That isn’t the case today, though, thanks to J.Crew’s current “SHOPNOW” code, which has much of the brand’s newest items marked down by 30%.

Since this happens so rarely, when I spotted the sale marker on J.Crew’s website, I knew right away that I had to first, shop the selection myself, and second, make it easy for all of you to do the same. After all, who can resist a sale that includes penny loafers, cable-knit sweaters, chic outerwear, and yes, cashmere, all of which is seasonally appropriate right now and 30% off? That’s right—no one. Scroll down to shop my favorite items from J.Crew’s sale on new arrivals (and more).

  • The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

The Official Dos and Don’ts of Restaurant Dress Codes

    [ad_1]

What to Avoid: The term “business” is an important addition to this category. While the sleek jeans you styled for a casual dinner can be considered acceptable in certain business settings, focus on chic pants to err on the side of caution.

What to Wear: Business casual, though it may seem obscure for a restaurant, is easy to understand, as it’s what one would typically wear to work. While that concept can become a little hazy for the fashion person who wears trendier outfits to the office, the idea is to maintain a professional, appropriate, and elegant appearance. Imagine the outfit you would wear when taking a client out to lunch. Personally, this brings to mind tailored pants, an oversize blazer, and a button-down with a pair of simple oxford loafers. Sophisticated and stylish but not overly stuffy.

  • Everyone Is Wearing This Shoe Style With Leggings Again

Everyone Is Wearing This Shoe Style With Leggings Again

    [ad_1]

In recent years, it was typical to see leggings paired with sneakers or a pair of slide sandals from time to time, but that’s about it. This winter, celebrities have been wearing them outside of the gym a lot more than usual, even dressing them up with chic outerwear and jewelry. And the particular shoe style that’s most often worn with jeans this time of year? Ankle boots.

Yes, you read correctly—leather ankle boots (and not just Uggs) have made their way back into celebrities’ legging outfits, many of which have heels. We’ll admit that they look very, very chic. Take Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, for example, in her long vest, athletic leggings, and black suede ankle boots this week. She clearly was not going to pilates.

I Know My Way Around a Great Night-Out Look—These 5 Outfit Formulas Never Fail

    [ad_1]

It’s a new year, and you know what that means: new outfits. This year, I’m planning on turning up the heat when putting together my looks, especially for parties and events. I always look at a night out as the perfect opportunity to wear something fun and really break out your best pieces. What I love about dressing for a night out is that you have a little more wiggle room when it comes to playing with fabrics, colors, and silhouettes.

Maybe a sequin miniskirt isn’t the most appropriate choice for your Monday meeting, but it is going to look great when you’re grabbing drinks and going dancing with your friends in downtown Manhattan. Or maybe you have a bold statement minidress in your closet that doesn’t exactly work for your best friend’s wedding but would be perfect for girl’s night. With that being said, I have been searching high and low for outfit inspiration for all of the fun nights out ahead and found five looks that I am absolutely obsessed with.

This French-Girl Outfit Formula Never Fails to Make Me Look Chic in Winter

    [ad_1]

I rack up a lot of miles on the pants odometer in winter. Jeans, in particular, are the go-to piece I rely on daily to keep me warm and looking cool. But after the umpteenth time wearing them, jean fatigue is unquestionably setting in. Luckily, the fashionable French set has kept any signs of sartorial boredom at bay. After studying in depth how French girls stay impeccably chic even through the most frigid winter months, there’s one particular French-girl outfit formula I’ve been stealing in lieu of my tiresome pants outfits: a skirt, tights, and boots, which is the secret sauce to an elevated-looking winter look. I recommend sticking to knee-high boots and pairing them with a mini or midi skirt. Then, just add some sheer or thick tights. Trust me—the simple and stylish combination always works.

If you need more proof, below I’m sharing plenty of chic skirt, tights, and boots outfits I’ve spotted on some of my favorite French influencers. Simple yet elevated, these are guaranteed to inspire your next cold-weather ensemble.

  • The London Fashion Crowd Loves Leather—5 Bold Outfits I Want to Try in 2023

The London Fashion Crowd Loves Leather—5 Bold Outfits I Want to Try in 2023

    [ad_1]

If there’s anything Londoners know well, it’s bold, grungy style. With the genesis of the punk fashion subculture based in London, leather is a mainstay in the British fashion scene. But these days, it doesn’t always have to be hard-core to be bold. Some of my choice London fashion people are opting for double-leather outfits, modern silhouettes, and dichotomous styling for statement leather looks.

Whether or not you’re a daring dresser, I’m convinced leather has a place in every wardrobe. A classic pair of leather boots, an easy leather jacket, or an everyday leather bag are simple ways to integrate leather into your closet. If you’re a little more experimental, longline leather shorts, a leather blazer, and patent pieces are polished yet adventurous ways to add in this bold material.

I’ve turned to some of the chicest Londoners for inspiration on how to leather up this winter. Plus, I added in some can’t-miss shopping below for upping your leather wardrobe.
