    J.Lo Wore the Controversial Denim Trend That’s All Over Zara and H&M

    Jennifer Lopez has seen it all, so when she endorses a controversial trend, people tend to take notice. The superstar and mother of two was spotted in Los Angeles walking to a casual lunch. Lopez mixed luxury and affordable pieces including an Hermés Birken and designer aviators with Nike Air Force 1s, a cropped sweater, and baggy low-rise jeans. And, while the sneakers are definitely cool, it was the Y2K-era low-rise jeans that piqued our interest. 

    Although low-rise styles have been creeping back into fashion over the past few seasons, it’s the unusual combination of the rise and the width that pushes these jeans into controversial territory. If you’re totally opposed to low-rise jeans, move along; this look isn’t for you. But, if you’re open to something a little out of the box, then you’re in luck. We found several pairs of loose, low-rise denim at places like Zara and H&M, plus a few pricier versions, too. 

    This fit might not be for everyone — J.Lo can pull off outfits that most women wouldn’t even attempt — but, we think this one’s a winner. We especially love how the super slouchy fit works with both casual and more elevated pieces; perfect for those of us with Birken bag dreams but on a Birkenstock budget.

    Despite working at Nordstrom throughout college and now, constantly checking the site’s new arrivals online, I don’t visit the store as much as I used to. I’m a full-fledged online shopper. I love to scroll through TikTok for product recommendations and surf through online reviews like it’s my job. As editors, we’re able to call in pieces to test drive (as seen in our Great Try On series) but I decided it was overdue for some good ol’ in-person shopping.  And after a few hours of trying things on and a brief trip to Nordstrom’s café, I found plenty of chic pieces that I wanted for my summer 2023 wardrobe. 

    Surprisingly, there were even items that I probably wouldn’t give a second look at online but wanted to purchase immediately after trying them on.     Is it just me, or are we all especially excited for spring and summer this year? I have always loved spring/summer fashion more than fall/winter fashion, so this is my time to shine. One of the main reasons is that it’s finally warm enough to wear dresses on a daily basis. I have such a thing for dresses.
