One of Florida’s alligators is getting laughs on social media after it was caught trying to blend in with the landscaping at a tiki bar.
The odd discovery was made Monday, Oct. 6, at Harlow’s Hideout, which summoned the Stuart Police Department.
The cops thought it was funny, too.
“An alligator walks into a bar… No, seriously,” Stuart police wrote in a Facebook post.
“Stuart police received a call from a local tiki bar about an unexpected guest. And no, it wasn’t a rowdy tourist dodging their tab, it was an actual alligator, apparently looking to crash happy hour.”
The outdoor bar acknowledged it was “not an ordinary afternoon,” and noted it was a case of “gator on the rocks (with) cops for the chaser.”
Photos show the alligator was a juvenile, about 4 feet long, and it was found behind a row of lounge chairs.
“Officers arrived and promptly took the scaly suspect into ‘custody’ without incident. No injuries to the gator or any humans, just one wild story and a few surprised bar-goers,” police said.
“The party-seeking reptile has since been relocated to a more suitable venue, where the only cocktails are in the swamp and the sun never sets on happy hour.”
The department’s Facebook post about the incident had hundreds of reactions and comments as of Oct. 7, including from some who noted it was an “only in Florida” moment.
“Seriously should have left him be,” James H. Ares wrote.
“I never saw a sign out there saying no gators allowed,” Kevin Gemlich posted.
Stuart is about a 105-mile drive north from Miami.
