    The resurgence of ’90s fashion has resulted in a truly mixed bag of emotions. While the ’90s can be credited with providing us with now-favorable slip dresses and kitten heels, there’s also a raft of trends we’d like to keep in the past. After reaching out to the rest of the Who What Wear team, we reminisced about all the pieces we used to be so proud to own but can’t imagine ever wearing again (we think), as well as the celebrity looks we’d happily revisit time and again.

    As much as people like to say that fashion people only wear black, that hasn’t really been the case in recent years.     I don’t know about you, but Italian style is all I can think about at the moment.     If people think the Hamptons or Martha’s Vineyard are the most equipped locales to provide old-money style inspiration, they’ve probably never been to Cannes (or at least, seen street style from it during the French city’s annual film festival). Elegant and refined, yet effortless, the outfits that consistently come out of Cannes Film Festival are some of the chicest you’ll see on the celebrity set for the entire year. And this season’s festivities, which are going on as we speak, are far from disappointing.

    One of the buzziest names on the attendance list this year is Sydney Sweeney, who’s already debuted a handful of stunning looks, including a gorgeous peek-a-boo slip moment by Miu Miu and low-key luxury Celine bra–and–jeans ensemble that she wore to hang out on a yacht (casual). But the very best so far arrived when she left Hotel Martinez this weekend wearing a hooded, tweed micro-minidress by Miu Miu with a pair of penny loafers, tortoiseshell shades, and the brand’s Matelassé top handle bag in tow. Nonchalant yet impactful, the daytime ‘fit was Cannes street style at its very best.  

    Of course, copying the look to a T might be tricky unless you have a couple thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket right now. However, I did some digging and found the perfect alt that just so happens to be included in Abercrombie‘s epic spring sale.     The right Trench

    How to choose your trench coat? For me, it’s the slouch, lightweight material, oversized menswear look and details that read vintage. Trenches are so great because they can easily be integrated into any wardrobe and there really isn’t any styling faux pas when it comes to the trench. They really take any look and give it polish (besides rain protection, of course). A lot has been already written about how incredible, versatile and practical the trench coat can be (do you even need to wear anything underneath?). But I give it another go with some fresh options for you to get inspired to rescue yours this spring or maybe invest in a new one.

    Rain boots need to be waterproof — that goes without saying. But more than that, the goal is to look like you’re not wearing a rain boot rain boot. More like, a fabulous boot you just so happen to be wearing in the rain. It’s key to look for a pair that effortlessly blends fashion and function. Take a look at the options I found below. 

    Some bright cargo pants for your delight: these yellow, these Dion Lee ombré and these crazy good orange ones.

    Headgear

    Head accessories are often overlooked, but they’re the perfect addition to a rain-ready outfit! Silk scarves and especially (bucket) hats serve as a perfect color/pattern accent for an outfit – and obviously, they keep humidity at bay! The best part is that your ears are stylishly protected and if it stops raining you just slip it back into your bag. Goodbye umbrellas-that-get-lost-on-a-daily!

    Did anyone realize Santa Monica has an airport? We didn’t either. Apparently it’s been used since 1917, thus making it one of the oldest continually operating airports in all of the United States. Fascinating. But besides it being a quirky fun fact and a part of aviation history, the tiny single-runway hub served as the backdrop for one of Los Angeles’s most eclectic events, Frieze Los Angeles.

    On a dreary, overcast day, Day 1 of the art fair commenced in a windswept part of Santa Monica, a line of ubers and black cars with VIPs stretched out waiting at the entrance. From across the globe collectors, artists, curators, and the art-curious gathered in two huge tents to see what’s next in the world of contemporary art and culture. An offshoot of Frieze Magazine, Frieze was conceptualized as an international art fair by the title’s founders, with its inaugural event taking place in London in 2003. Twenty years later, the multi-day showcase is one of the premier art events of the industry, with festivals in New York, London, Los Angeles, and Seoul. This year’s Frieze fair in Los Angeles included over 120 galleries presenting their works: There was a traveling marching band with an accompanying dance line playing out “Swag Surf” (from performance artist Autumn Breon), cutesy inflatables the size of a small building (from ceramicist Alake Shilling) and bronze tortillas in a Chevy cargo van (an exhibition from artist Ruben Ochoa). And alongside these thought-provoking and memorable moments, was some great fashion.

    The fluidity with which Waterhouse has been able to move from creative career to creative career seems like the kind of path that’s only available to those who’s parents or family members provided a plethora of industry connections. And yet Waterhouse, a West London native was scouted at age 16 and worked her way into the spotlight via her modeling work and the connections she made along the way. 

    Regardless of how you came to know Waterhouse, though, there’s no denying that she’s in her moment. She’s always had that cool-girl vibe with model-off-duty style and a perfectly-messy coif of French-girl fringe to go with. But with the arrival of Daisy Jones has come a flood of new red carpet and street style ensembles from the star, with each look being even more major than the last. It has us certain that Waterhouse is the next style icon of our generation—and with so much of Hollywood paring things back with their tailored minimalism, the arrival of Waterhouse and her ’70s-era fringe and plethora of glamorous sequined, sheer, and high-octane ensembles, it’s a total breath of fresh air.

    In the midst of navigating where I’m heading and where I’m off to next during fashion week in New York (I do, in fact, live here, but getting lost remains my specialty), I make it a point every season to scope out the cool items that everyone is wearing, specifically looking for ones that pop up again and again. On the apparel side, there were certainly a few repeats, with big-ticket items including scarf coats, distressed leather jackets, full skirts, and anything really that feels ballet-inspired. The handbag selection, however, was by far the main event. 

    Throughout New York Fashion Week, show attendees debuted a vast array of bags, from classic shapes by the likes of Celine, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel to more on-trend silhouettes and accents like bowlers, metallics, and perhaps most prominent, surrealist styles. Knowing the brevity of the handbag moments this season, I took it upon myself to narrow down the trends I spotted most outside of seven days worth of nonstop shows, presentations, and previews this week to the six that feel most relevant and buzzy.
