With the holiday season in full fa-la-la-la-flow, it’s time to reflect. When the year winds down, we feel a bit of burn out — you stare blankly at screens without motivation, you don’t want to work, and you’ve just spent all your money on gift giving.
The year ends in two weeks, which means all of your social media accounts are wrapping up the past 365 days and holding a mirror up to who you truly are. For Snapchat users, you get a montage of photos and videos from those embarrassing nights out and the time you took a selfie crying.
At Popdust, we’ve always loved music. It’s why I have a weekly segment rounding up popular new music and it’s why we report on so many of your most favorite artists. We’re constantly searching for the next big thing in music. And 2023 was massive for changing the soundscapes we know and love.
For instance, country folk was the breakout genre of the year thanks to artists like Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan. Popular DJ’s like John Summit and Dom Dolla have driven a surge in popularity of house music. We’ve seen Taylor Swift take over the world, alongside rapidly rising stars like Ice Spice and SZA.
With the recent announcement of the GRAMMY Award nominees, it’s never too early to hold our own award ceremony to celebrate all of the awesome music released this year. The Popdust Music Awards are for all of those 2024 hitmakers who gave us viral moments, graced our speakers, and made us sing along.
That includes celebrating Taylor Swift, our Artist Of The Year, whose Eras Tour is the highest-grossing tour of all time at $1 billion to date! Her album, Midnights, alongside re-releases like 1989 (Taylor’s Version) and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) were chart-toppers in their own right. Consistently breaking records like dominating the Billboard Top 10, Swift deserves her flowers.
And speaking of flowers, Miley Cyrus is having a huge year with her new album, Endless Summer Vacation. “Flowers” is our Viral Song of the Year, only taking 112 days to reach Spotify’s Billions Club, the quickest in the app’s history.
There are plenty of artists to celebrate in 2023, which means 2024’s gonna be a truly thrilling year coming up. Here are some of Popdust’s favorite artists and albums from 2023!

Netflix’s live-action take on the Yu Yu Hakusho anime is out and fans are wondering if the series has more than 5 episodes. Is there an episode 6 coming out in the future? Has Netflix only released Part 1 of the season, so is there a Part 2 on its way? Here’s all you need to know about Yu Yu Hakusho’s release schedule and episode count.
Is there a Yu Yu Hakusho episode 6 release date for Netflix?
No, there is no Yu Yu Hakusho episode 6 release date as Netflix has ended the season with just 5 episodes.
The live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series arrived on December 14, 2023, and many fans were surprised to see just 5 episodes in the show. Many have been left wondering if there’s an episode 6 on its way. But unfortunately, that isn’t the case as the series is extremely fast-paced and wraps up a good chunk of the anime’s story.
The original anime had 112 episodes and Yu Yu Hakusho’s 5 episodes cover the narrative of about 60 episodes. More episodes could arrive if Season 2 happens. But at the time of publishing, Netflix has neither renewed the show for another season nor canceled it.
Will there be a Yu Yu Hakusho part 2 release date?
No, there is no Yu Yu Hakusho season 1 part 2 release date as the season was only 5 episodes long.
Netflix is known for releasing its shows in two parts to keep them relevant for a longer period. But, despite having such a low episode count, live-action Yu Yu Hakusho Season 1 does not have a second batch of episodes. But whether a second season of the show happens remains to be seen.
The official synopsis of Yu Yu Hakusho on Netflix reads:
“After a selfless act costs him his life, teen delinquent Yusuke Urameshi is chosen as a Spirit Detective to investigate cases involving rogue yokai.”

Counter-Strike skin gambling continues on Twitch despite the platform’s efforts to ban it, the video gaming news outlet Dexerto reported. As it turns out, CS skin gambling still happens without prompting action from the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
For reference, Twitch banned CS skin gambling sites, also known as CS case opening sites, from being featured on its site back in August. The platform announced that any promotion of such sites, even of free social versions of such sites, is prohibited under the new policy.
The ban was prompted by the intense scrutiny of such gambling sites’ prevalence across the content sharing platform. Many believe that CS skin gambling can serve as a gateway product that leads to youth gambling.
Twitch heard the calls and introduced the aforementioned ban, just as many fans wanted. When the ban was officially introduced, Twitch officials told Dexerto that this new measure would make it clear what type of promotion is allowed on the streaming service.
However, the Amazon-owned platform does not seem to be very diligent in upholding its own rules.
Dexerto said that Twitch’s ban on CS skin gambling sites has changed virtually nothing on the platform. According to the news outlet, streamers continue to feature and promote such websites regularly without anyone getting banned for it.
Dexerto noted that not a single major channel promoting CS gambling content has been suspended yet. On the contrary, both CS2 streamers and tournament organizers continue to promote case opening sites and stream themselves interacting with such websites. Some even use Twitch extensions like Magic Wheel to win prizes, Dexerto pointed out.
This shows that Twitch’s crackdown on CS case opening sites is not proceeding as planned. The measure was originally expected to impact a multitude of content creators sporting partnerships with CS gambling websites. Such streamers would often provide affiliate codes and feature sponsored segments across their streams.
As of the time of this writing, Twitch has yet to address the situation.
Twitch’s relationship with gambling has always been troubled. The company has been trying to minimize the impact of such content with mixed results. Months ago, it introduced a ban on unlicensed websites that prompted a mass exodus from the platform and sparked the creation of Kick, one of its biggest rivals yet.
However, while many enjoy gambling content, a lot of other viewers have been getting tired of it and are demanding tougher measures.
Speaking of Twitch and its troubled relationship with gambling, the site was just fined by the AGCOM over gambling-related issues.

If you’ve been dying to know the identities of Anteater, Candelabra, Cow, Donut, Gazelle, and Sea Queen, then you’re likely also wondering how to watch The Masked Singer. Ahead of the season 10 finale, three characters will face off to determine which one will secure the last spot in the finale.
The Masked Singer is an American reality singing competition television series that’s part of The Masked Singerfranchise, which originated in South Korea. The American version premiered on January 2, 2019, and viewers can expect celebrities performing on stage while wearing elaborate costumes and face masks to hide their identities.
Judges and live studio audience members try to guess the singers’ real identities, and they both ultimately get a say in which characters move forward in the competition show. The A-list lineup of judges includes Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke, while the show is hosted by Nick Cannon.
Each week, the panelists guess the celebrities’ actual identities by looking at clues that are given to them. They also have front-row seats to each performance and vote alongside the audience for which character they like the most and want to take center stage that week. One by one, celebrities are eliminated and reveal their identities to the judges and viewers until there’s only one masked singer left standing. That contestant is declared the winner. Previous winners have included the likes of T-Pain (a.k.a. Monster), Wayne Brady (a.k.a. Fox), Kandi Burruss (a.k.a. Night Angel), and LeAnn Rimes (a.k.a. Sun).
The show is currently finishing its 10th season, which premiered on September 27, 2023. Six singers remain in season 10, with three secured for the finale (Gazelle, Cow, and Sea Queen) and three others (the Group C finalists, which are Donut, Candelabra, and Anteater) competing to stay for another week.
Who will snag the last spot in The Masked Singer season 10 finale? Well, you’ll have to see for yourself, so keep reading to find out how to watch The Masked Singer online for free.

No, you’re not the only person spending too much time on Netflix. The average Netflix user spent 16 days streaming content from January to June this year, according to new data released by the streaming service.
After two years of consumers and the press relying on Netflix’s Top 10 lists and Nielsen data to determine Netflix’s most watched content, the company just opened the floodgates to a wealth of information that will give more insight into how viewers use the streaming service. On Tuesday, it dropped a dataset of 18,000 shows and movies (which make up 99% of its catalog), listing how many hours of viewership they each amassed in the first six months of 2023. And it plans to continue releasing this information every six months.
Ginny & Georgia was one of the top performing series during the January to June period, with nearly 1 billion hours watched, the equivalent of 110,410 years. Other top performers were The Night Agent and Suits, with a respective 93,000 and 68,000 years-worth of hours viewed.
“This is the actual data we use to run the business,” co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in a press briefing on Tuesday. Altogether, Netflix’s 238.4 million subscribers (as of June 30) spent nearly 100 billion hours watching Netflix over the six-month period.
Throughout Netflix’s existence, “The one constant is that people are asking for more viewing information,” Sarandos said. By not providing it, the company took pressure off creators to produce breakout hits, but it also unintentionally built an atmosphere of mistrust that the company is now looking to repair, he said. The announcement follows months of negotiations with labor unions representing Hollywood writers and actors, in which the unions demanded greater transparency from studios.
Netflix is publishing the raw data in the name of such transparency, which “creates a better environment for the [writers’ and actors’] guilds, for us, for the producers, and for the press,” according to Sarandos. While advertisers might find this data useful in making decisions on how to spend their budgets, Netflix will continue to use third-party data to determine the cost of ads.
But the data, while informative, doesn’t give a total picture of the company. Since it has set six-month parameters, it isn’t an objective gauge of popularity. Wednesday, for example, premiered in November while the hours viewed metric begins in January. The show ranks lower than Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia, which launched in early January and benefits from its early watchers being included in the metric. Netflix also has no plans to break down the data into month-by-month or country-level lists, Sarandos said, because that would offer intelligence to its competitors.
Other streaming services have largely followed Netflix’s example in guarding title-level viewership data, so Netflix’s move could lead others to follow suit. “It will be up to them,” Sarandos said, adding that competitors are in a different phase of the streaming business and that 10 years ago, Netflix thought differently about sharing data as well.

Daredevil: Born Again star Vincent D’Onofrio has said that he believes the upcoming Disney+ show will fall under the Marvel Spotlight Banner.
While on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, the actor was asked if he thought the new Daredevil series would be part of the Marvel Spotlight Banner. The purpose of the banner, which will include the upcoming Echo series, is to highlight more grounded stories that are focused on characters instead of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s overall continuity.
“For sure,” D’Onofrio stated. “That’s my opinion, I imagine it would be. Nobody has said, ‘Hey, did you know this? This is happening’ — nobody said that. But it is of the same tone and feel [as Echo]. The attention that the big bosses are giving to it is extraordinary and Charlie [Cox] and I are just amazed at how much they care about this series. I can’t imagine it being treated any less.”
In October, it was reported that Daredevil: Born Again was undergoing a “significant creative reboot” after the production break that came from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman were quietly taken off the project alongside the series’ directors, while certain scenes and episodes that were already finished will be retained with further serialized elements added.
When did Daredevil and Kingpin debut in the MCU?
Both Daredevil and Kingpin made their MCU debuts in 2021. Kingpin guest-starred in the Disney+ Hawkeye series, and Matt Murdock briefly appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Charlie Cox also guest-starred in two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where he showed off a lighter side of the hero.
The combined Disney+Hulu app will leapfrog Netflix on both popularity and volume in the U.S., according to a report from Ampere Analysis.
One-third of the 100 most popular Q3 titles in their home market were on Disney+ and Hulu, Ampere found, with 17 on the former and 16 on the latter, placing the pair at the top of the popularity pile. Netflix’s figure sits a few lower at 29, with Max in third on 18 and Amazon Prime Video lagging behind on 11. Ampere measures popularity based on key metrics such as volume of interest, web traffic and box office income from major services such as Google, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
Meanwhile in terms of volume, Disney+ and Hulu will shoot above Netflix to become the second most populous streamer with 9,578 titles, with Hulu holding the majority, 7,250. The combined app is ahead of Netflix by more than 1,000 and second only to Prime, even with the 300 titles set to be removed following Disney+’s buyout of Comcast’s Hulu stake. Given that the Disney+ Hulu app doesn’t launch for several months, these figures could change.
Disney+ and Hulu bring together the might of the likes of the new Star Wars movies and TV series, Pixar pics and Hulu hits such as Only Murders in the Building and American Horror Story. Disney+’s content strategy relies on its strong children and family content portfolio and tentpole sci-fi releases from major franchises. These would represent 81% of the top 100 most popular titles on the combined platform, Ampere said, while Hulu’s content library would complement Disney+’s as it includes underserved Disney+ genres such as crime, romance and horror. Disney+ already features some of the Hulu library in international markets under the Star banner.
As of October 2023, Hulu had more subscribers than Disney+ in the U.S. According to Ampere’s consumer survey, 44% of U.S. Hulu subscribers already have access to Disney+, largely due to bundles offering both platforms plus ESPN.
“With a combined app offering Disney+ and Hulu due to launch in the U.S. in early 2024, its compelling new streaming content offer will surely shake up the status quo,” said Ampere analyst Joshua Rustage.
“The combined Disney+ and Hulu catalogue will provide one of the most well-rounded and popular offerings in a single platform, upping the content stakes at a time when many are pulling back on content investment. Rivals will have to ensure their offerings remain competitive as the battle for viewing time intensifies, especially as the need to pull in advertising dollars is now also central to the streaming mix.”
Earlier this week, Disney added Hulu as a sixth vertical on the home screen of Disney+ with an integrated “one-app experience” launching in beta. The apps will be combined in earnest next March. The launch scheme, initially announced last month during Disney’s quarterly earnings call, comes as Disney is in the process of buying out Comcast’s one-third stake in Hulu and becoming its full owner. It has had 100% operational control of Hulu since 2019.
