A woman has been reunited with her dog after she says her pet was stolen at gunpoint on Saturday morning in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Sophia Radich told WTOP she was reunited with her dog on Sunday afternoon after a tipster spotted her pet in Landover and reached out.

The robbery reportedly happened near the 4800 block of Avondale Overlook Drive in Chillum at around 7 a.m. on Saturday, according to Prince George’s County police.

Before the reunion, Radich was searching for Yana, a small Havanese, sharing photos of Yana online and posting flyers near her apartment, as well as nearby busy areas like bus stops and metro stations.

“I put the $5,000 reward on it, because, like, this is my child,” Radich told WTOP earlier on Sunday. “I’m going to get her back.”

Prince George’s County police have said they’re investigating the reported armed robbery.

    What happened

Before leaving for a trip, Sophia Radich said she took her dog, Yana, for a walk outside of her apartment building. That’s when she said two suspects approached her from behind.

Surveillance camera footage captures an armed dognapping in Chillum, Md.

Footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera shows the scene where one suspect, wearing a ski mask, demanded she hand over her dog — Yana, a small Havanese.

“I thought he was pulling a prank or something,” Radich told WTOP, adding that she believed the suspects appeared to be kids or teens.

The masked suspect tried to take the dog’s leash from Radich, who pulled the leash back. He then pulled out a gun and held it to the dog owner’s head, she said.

“He’s yanking her so hard that, like, it’s pulling on her neck,” Radich said. “He was carrying her, basically by her neck, by the leash. So I let go, so she wasn’t strangled.”

The masked suspect continued to point a gun at her while running away. Radich said when she tried to call 911, the second suspect chased after her.

“I don’t want my dog in danger ever, so if that means they had to take her to not kill me, so be it,” she said.

Radich said she tripped and that suspect got “on top of me trying to get my phone.” He ran off after she called for help and fought back.

“I was horrified — 7 a.m., broad daylight like that,” she said.

Radich said the suspects left in a black vehicle.

Police haven’t placed an official lookout on a vehicle.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.

  • Suspect arrested in theft of French bulldog that left owner clinging to car in Southern California

Suspect arrested in theft of French bulldog that left owner clinging to car in Southern California

LOS ANGELES — An arrest has been made in the theft of a French bulldog that left the pet’s owner clinging desperately to the hood of a car as the thieves sped away in Southern California.

On Saturday, the LAPD announced that the suspect, Sadie Slater, was arrested in Inglewood. The 21-year-old was booked for robbery with bail set at $70,000.

It’s unclear if the dog, Onyx, was found or return to the owner.

The brazen dognapping happened the afternoon of Jan. 18. The dog’s owner, Ali Zacharias, was eating lunch outdoors at a downtown Los Angeles Whole Foods with her dog when a woman grabbed the leash and walked off with Zacharias’ beloved best friend.

The thieves kept going for several blocks before swerving, sending the dog owner to the ground.

Zacharias ran after her, but the woman jumped into a car with three other people inside. Zacharias stood in front of the car, but they rammed right into her. She slipped onto the hood and then just held on.

Bystander video shows the vehicle driving through the streets of Los Angeles with Zacharias hanging onto the hood. Eventually the car swerved and shook her off, then fled with Onyx.

Police later released a photo of a woman wearing a gray hoodie and purple sweatpants that is believed to be the suspect. It’s unclear if that is the same person who was arrested.

At least one other suspect has been described as a man in his mid-20s. They were driving a white, KIA Forte sedan.

  • Visiting Florida family recovers beloved dog taken in Gentilly truck theft

Visiting Florida family recovers beloved dog taken in Gentilly truck theft

    [ad_1]

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A family visiting from Florida says their beloved family dog has been found, after their pickup truck was stolen with the dog still inside Friday night (Nov. 18) in Gentilly.

Stuart Trahan said he, his wife and their 95-pound Labrador Retriever Sam (short for Samson the Great) had only spent a few minutes in the city before they were left heartbroken by New Orleans’ crime. While getting settled upon arrival for a Thanksgiving visit with their daughter, Trahan had left his 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 running, locking it and unlocking it as he unloaded luggage inside.

Suddenly, Trahan said, his truck with the dog in back began to speed away. An opportunistic thief had jumped into the driver’s seat and taken off down the 2100 block of Mirabeau Street before Trahan could react. He believes the thieves were watching him from the corner in a dark-colored 4 door sedan, waiting for him to leave the truck unattended.

“I’m not worried about the truck — insurance can take care of that,” Trahan said. “But we really just want to get Sam back safe.”

The dark gray truck, which has a winch attached to its front end and a “Louisiana Tech Forestry” sticker on its back window, was stolen around 10:45 p.m., Trahan said.

Trahan, consumed with worry for his buddy, took to social media, local news stations, animal rescues and the police.

Now, thanks to some eagle-eyed caring citizens, Trahan says the 95 pounds of lovable lab is back where he belongs — in Trahan’s arms.

    The truck is still missing.
