    A train derailment Monday morning led to an outage affecting as many as 17,000 Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers in Stockton, authorities said.”At about 8 a.m. PST today, approximately three cars derailed in Union Pacific’s Stockton Rail Yard, knocking over a powerline, a statement from Union Pacific read. “No one was injured, and no hazardous material was involved. The utility company has been notified.”PG&E said 17,000 customers were initially without power. That number was down to 100 customers by 3:30 p.m. PG&E said it expected the majority of those customers to have their power restored by 5:30 p.m. There was a separate outage at or near the French Camp area affecting about 1,500 customers.     Stockton police said a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

  • Multiple suspects arrested in CHP operation targeting Northern California organized retail theft ring

    A California Highway Patrol task force this month arrested 13 people and recovered over $800,000 in stolen merchandise in connection with an organized retail theft ring that operated across Northern California. 

    The CHP Valley Division’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force, which includes investigators from the Sacramento Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, was alerted in September to a pair of retail theft suspects operating in Placer County and at multiple other locations throughout the state, the agency said in a press release. 

    On October 1, the Rocklin Police Department located the suspects with help from the Valley Division ORCTF. The suspects identified others who were purchasing stolen merchandise from them and reselling it for profit at flea markets in Oakland, San Jose, Galt, Modesto and Stockton, the CHP said. 

    Investigators used information provided by the suspects to conduct surveillance operations and establish links among the theft suspects, the stolen merchandise buyers and resellers, and the flea-market locations, the CHP said. Search warrants were obtained for six homes, three storage lockers, and one storage lot.

    On December 11, the CHP said multiple law enforcement agencies conducted Operation Silent Night, executing warrants in Oakland, Richmond, San Leandro, and Galt. The operation resulted in 13 arrests and the seizure of over 400 boxes and 200 bags of stolen merchandise, along with two firearms, more than $10,000 in cash, five vans, two passenger vehicles, and two trailers, the CHP said.

    The stolen merchandise included cosmetics, household goods, clothing, power tools, toys, alcohol, and diapers. The day after the raids, Cal Expo provided an exposition hall to help investigators process and catalog the recovered merchandise, which amounted to 44,140 stolen items valued in excess of $800,000.

    • Eryn Wilfred Corea Guevara, 29, Oakland 

    “Organized retail theft is not a victimless crime. It impacts businesses, workers, and communities across California,” said CHP Valley Division Chief Tyler Eccles in a prepared statement. “This investigation highlights the strength of collaboration between law enforcement and our retail partners, and our commitment to holding organized theft networks accountable.”

    Governor Gavin Newsom established the CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force in 2019 to target sophisticated theft rings, beginning in Southern California before expanding to the San Francisco Bay Area and other parts of the state. In 2021, Newsom signed Assembly Bill 331, which permanently extended the task force and gave the CHP more authority to coordinate regional property crime efforts.

    According to the CHP, since the ORCTF’s inception in 2019, the agency has been involved in over 4,200 investigations, with over 4,700 suspects arrested and the recovery of nearly 1.5 million stolen goods valued at over $68.7 million statewide as of November 30.

After the fog lifts, skies will be mostly sunny with temperatures peaking near 60 once again in the valley, upper 50s in the foothills, and low 50s in the Sierra with light winds.     Another Dense Fog Advisory will be in place for the valley until 11 in the morning. After the fog lifts, skies will be mostly sunny with temperatures peaking near 60 once again in the valley, upper 50s in the foothills, and low 50s in the Sierra with light winds.

    Doug Martin, a former All-Pro running back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died. He was 36.“It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning. Cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Please respect our privacy at this time,” his family said in a statement to Fox Sports.On Monday, Oakland police said Martin died after a struggle with police officers who were taking him into custody while they were investigating a break-in at a home in Oakland.His death is being investigated by police, the city police commission, the community police review agency and the county district attorney’s office.Martin was born in Oakland and played high school football for St. Mary’s in Stockton.   • Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi says her home was struck by gunfire

    The home of the mayor of Stockton was struck by gunfire over the weekend, officials said. 

    Mayor Christina Fugazi told CBS Sacramento that the incident happened early Sunday morning around 2 a.m. No one inside the home was hurt, Fugazi said.

    “Mayor Fugazi remains focused on ensuring public safety and supporting ongoing efforts to reduce violence in our city,” Fugazi’s office said in a statement.

    Stockton police confirmed that a shooting had taken place at that time along N. Lincoln Street in Stockton’s downtown area, near the mayor’s home.

    Two teenage boys, 17 and 18, were hurt in the shooting, police said. Officers said of the teen’s injuries were not life-threatening.

    Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and no arrests have been made at this time.

  • Viewer Videos: Did you see the light streaking across the Northern California night sky?

    Several KCRA 3 viewers shared video of the moment streaks of light were traveling across the sky just after nightfall Thursday.

    While officials have not confirmed what the light was, Meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn said it was most likely to be space debris, but could also be a meteor breaking up.

    From Garden Valley in El Dorado County to Stockton, viewers across the Northern California region shared video of the mysterious lights.

    KCRA 3 is reaching out to several agencies to determine the source of the lights.

THOSE VICTIMS ARE FROM THE STOCKTON AREA AND KCRA 3’S MARICELA DE LA CRUZ SPOKE WITH THREE OF THOSE FAMILIES. SUNDAY’S DEADLY CRASH IN NAPA COUNTY CLAIMED THE LIVES OF SIX FARM WORKERS FROM THE STOCKTON AREA.   • Fundraiser held in Stockton for 6 farmworkers killed in Napa deadly DUI crash

    In the wake of a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of six farmworkers from Stockton, the local community is stepping up to support the grieving families through heartfelt fundraisers and acts of kindness.

    Among those killed in the Napa crash was 42-year-old Loreto Ricardo Hernandez — a father, friend and provider. His 17-year-old daughter, Jasmin Hernandez, is now helping to organize efforts to honor her father’s memory and those of the other victims through community-led fundraising events.

    “My dad was a very funny person,” Jasmin said. “He would always make the people he was around laugh—his friends, his family.”

    Jasmin, who is set to graduate high school early, was helping host a fundraiser at her friend April Brado’s home, where supporters gathered to sell mini pancakes and raise money for funeral costs.

    Brado opened her doors to offer comfort and practical help, providing a space for love and healing during a difficult time.

    “It’s a blessing, definitely a blessing from God,” Jasmin said. “I really appreciate the local community coming.”

    All six victims of the crash were identified as farmworkers from Stockton. The crash occurred on Sunday in Napa, involving a van carrying eight individuals. Only two people survived.

    The driver, who has been arrested on suspicion of DUI, is now facing six counts of murder.

    Despite her grief, Jasmin remains strong, embodying the values her father taught her.

    “He was my childhood best friend, my hero,” she said. “The one who always taught me to keep going, get a career, and to become someone.”

    Her teacher, Mike Mandujan, also came out to show support.

    “I love being her teacher, her advisor for the club,” he said. “I just want to help her any way I can. This is a great family—they could really use some help right now.”

    Jasmin hopes her father’s story will serve as a reminder to others about the fragility of life.

    “I would like to tell them to take my dad’s story as an example and reflect their lives on it,” she said. “Because you never know what could happen tomorrow.”

    Another fundraiser is planned for this Saturday in Stockton, where dinner plates will be sold to raise additional funds for the families.

    Despite the unimaginable loss, Jasmin says she is choosing grace over anger. While saddened by her father’s passing, she says she is not holding any grudges.
