Steve Aoki is back with his first single of 2024, and this time he’s teaming up with Lil Jon for a modern reimagining of Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz’ seminal 2003 classic, “Get Low”. More than 20 years later, Aoki and Lil Jon decided it was time for fans to “Get Lower”. This is the fourth collaboration between the superstar DJ/producer and the King of Crunk. The two first got together back in 2011 on “Turbulence” and they’ve been fast friends ever since.
“Jon and I have been friends for years, and whenever we get together on a track, it’s a party,” Steve Aoki says. “When we performed at Tomorrowland last year, the energy was off the charts, and we knew we had to create another festival anthem. ‘Get Low’ is one of the most hype tracks of all time, and it’s an honor to work with Jon to bring it back for the next generation.”
“It’s crazy that Steve reached out to me about this song, especially considering it’s the 20th anniversary of the track this year!” Lil Jon says. “I’m grateful for our friendship over the years, and there’s no better way to honor this milestone for ‘Get Low.’”
Check out the official music video for Steve Aoki & Lil Jon’s latest, “Get Lower.” The video highlights the decade-plus long friendship of the two iconic artists and some of their best performances together all the way up to their appearance together at Tomorrowland last year. Check out some footage of them debuting the song together at Omnia Las Vegas below as well.
If you were in your teenage years during the year 2003, then chances are you’re very familiar with pop-punk/emo band Yellowcard’s seminal hit “Ocean Avenue.” An iconic anthem of teenage love and hijinks, “Ocean Avenue” still hits right in the feels to this day.
In perfect conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the song (and Yellowcard’s major label debut album of the same name), Yellowcard have teamed up with none other than Steve Aoki for a breathtaking remix that takes the pop-punk classic into the modern age and onto the dancefloor.
It was actually Yellowcard vocalist/guitarist Ryan Key that reached out to Aoki about the possible collab. Key and the band had been dabbling in electronic music since they returned from a six-year hiatus and Aoki’s punk rock bona fides are well known. There have been a lot of dance music remakes of early 2000s songs, but the music is way sweeter when the original artist actively contributes to the new track. That is definitely the case on this new edition of “Ocean Avenue.”
“When Ryan initially reached out about this possible collab, I was really excited—especially when I discovered how much he loves electronic music.” Aoki says. “We combined our different musical styles to create a perfect fusion of alt rock and electronic for this track. Honoring Ocean Avenue’s 20th anniversary by blending these sounds was an amazing experience.”
“I really admired the collaborations Steve was doing in the alternative rock and emo world, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect to reach out and see if we could work together for the 20th anniversary of Ocean Avenue.” Key adds. “Steve’s passion for music and creativity is infectious. The band and I are huge electronic music fans, so working with him has been an absolute career highlight.”
Check out Steve Aoki & Yellowcard’s version of “Ocean Avenue” out now on Dim Mak.
In terms of electronic dance music, Chris Lake is a bit of a juggernaut. He has no problem finding ways to innovate house music, constantly churning out hit track after hit track, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry, and giving us the soundtracks to many nights out on the dance floor.
His success is a result of his mastermind in the production studio, curating beats and sounds and blending them with strong vocals to give us hits like “Turn Off The Lights”, “Delirious” with Steve Aoki and Kid Ink, and even remixing Portugal The Man’s “Dummy.” He’s a prolific career includes a GRAMMY nomination, several #1 hits, and a repeat name on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down soon.
He’s had a busy year- touring across the globe and performing at some of the biggest festivals and selling out two nights at the Brooklyn Mirage, doing B2B sets with fellow house-dominator FISHER, even debuting their Under Construction brand…where they design their own stages and perform memorable sets.
Chris Lake has the ability to turn any song into a chart-topper…but his recent collaborations with Aluna have made even casual listeners a fan. Starting with “Beggin’”, which quickly amassed over 30 million streams globally, felt like the meeting of two titans in house music. Adding Aluna’s sultry vocals to “Beggin’” and mixing it with a heavy drumbeat, you won’t want to stop dancing until the song is over.
Now, they’re back to give us more with “More Baby!” A track perfect for your nights out, your workouts, and anything in between- the high tempo and Aluna’s mesmerizing voice makes you ready for whatever life throws at you. A duo for the ages, Chris Lake and Aluna prove they can make a hit…and another hit….and another. You can listen to the track here:
Chris Lake continues to set the bar higher and higher, and Popdust got the chance to talk to him about the tracks with Aluna, his Under Construction Brand, and more. Check it out below!
PD: Congratulations on “More Baby!” As your second single with Aluna following “Beggin”, do you guys now have a production process?
CL: Not one that we recognize no. We do have plans to get in the studio more though. We’ve only had a limited amount of sessions in the studio unfortunately. But, we’ve made two bangers so something is working.
PD: What inspired you both to work together again? Is this the last Chris Lake and Aluna track we’re getting?
CL: We did both of the tracks around the same time earlier this year. It was just difficult for us to release both of these around her album which had already been scheduled a long time previously.
PD: You’ve been working on your Under Construction Brand with FISHER. How did that start and what was it like creating it?
CL: At the root of this we’re just mates that love music and the few times we have played music together people have loved it. We’ve just essentially reacted at each stage to the last party and said –let’s do this next time– and at one of those points we decided to start the Under Construction Brand. Honestly all we care about is having a laugh and having a party that we have all our friends and family at. It’s not all just about what the crowd sees but there is also a whole party going on behind the decks too which is just as memorable for us.
PD: You both have been performing B2B sets as well, with an Under Construction event coming up in LA. How do you blend your sounds together during these shows?
CL: That is a good question. I don’t know. I guess we just have a synergy musically. I trust him and he trusts me. Most of the time we don’t have any plan we just follow each others lead and see where it takes us.
PD: You’re also the founder of Black Book Records. What was it like starting your own label and what do you look for in artists you sign?
CL: I am. I love that label. At the root of it it was an outlet for me to release my own music but more importantly, now it’s an avenue to develop and release music from new and exciting talent and it’s something that all of us at the label take very seriously. It’s our passion to release music that excites us and help expose and grow artists that we sign to a wider audience both through the success of the music itself and through the events they are abel to play off the back of those releases.
PD: You’ve got a few live performances to end the year. What are your favorite tracks to perform live?
CL: There’s loads. I still get the greatest kick from playing “Turn Off the Lights” because its still probably my biggest record and I’m proud of how it turned out and the reaction I get at my shows. It makes people happy which makes me happy too.
What can you say about a 2x World No. 1 DJ, who has been leading the electronic dance world for over a decade since he was only 14, who has officially remixed tracks for huge names in the music industry like Rihanna and Calvin Harris, that hasn’t already been said? That’s the case with the legendary Hardwell, who at 25, is just getting started.
As both a producer and DJ, Hardwell made his mark early on as a highly sought-after Dutch phenomenon who quickly won World’s No. 1 DJ in 2013, early on in his career. After remixing hit singles and sharing his own smash collabs with artists like Austin Mahone, Jay Sean, and Jason Derulo…you’d be surprised to learn what Hardwell has accomplished, accolades that take most artists multiple decades to be handed. But Hardwell is different.
He’s collaborated with fellow DJ’s like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, Tiesto, and AfroJack. He’s performed at the biggest EDM festivals in the world like Ultra, Tomorrowland, Coachella, and EDC Las Vegas. And while he took a 3 and a half year hiatus from releasing music and hitting the stage, 2022 Ultra proved to be his comeback.
Since then, fans have anxiously awaited Hardwell’s next move. Which has included his REBELS NEVER DIE era, remixing tracks by David Guetta and Benny Benassi, plus releasing original tracks of his own. You can check out REBELS NEVER DIE here:
It’s been a crazy year for Hardwell, but it’s safe to say he’s back. Hardwell sat down with Popdust to talk about what we can expect next, and what we’ve missed since we last saw him!
PD: You took a 3.5-year hiatus from music before returning to the stage for a surprise performance at Ultra last year…has your process of making music changed since then?
H: Yes, but not so much in a technical approach but more, what’s the right word, holistic. So, the big change has been about time and ensuring I give myself enoughof it focus on being creative. Without the pressure to be at the next airport, meeting,or wherever needed. I know, it sounds so simple but when you’re flying between multiple cities each week it can be difficult to properly get your head into a space that inspires creativity. So, for me, since the time away from touring, my priority now is to maintain the right balance between being on the road and at home in my studio.
PD: What have been your favorite songs to remix so far?
H: I’ve always loved remixes. It’s a part of the dance scene which since the verybeginning I’ve been hooked on so when it comes to being a remixer on some else’smusic, it always excites me to see what new direction I can take the song in. I’vehad the honour to be invited to remix some incredible acts, who I respect, likeColdplay, Moby, The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and US. But honestly, the one that really stands out is my remix of ‘Ocarina of Time’s Gerudo Valley’ for The Legend of Zelda. I can still feel the young gamer inside me grinning so hard at that one, like “Yes, we did it!”
PD: Are there any artists that inspire you or one’s you’d like to collaborate with in the future?
H: Of course, acts like Dr Dre, The Prodigy, Pharrell Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, and many others would be some others, are on my producer bucket list, but away from established acts, I’m actually really inspired by the artists coming through on my label Revealed Recordings. Seeing new artists like VINNE, Tim Hox developing in the studio, making music, and having that crazy hunger to succeed.Reminds me a lot of when I first got into it and it’s inspiring.
PD: You’ve teased you have a new single collaboration coming up. Can you share any more details, whose it with and what’s the name of the song?
H: Yeah, so the track is called ‘ANYBODY OUT THERE’ and it’s a vocal-driven anthem with Azteck and Alex Hepburn. I wanted to create a kind of hybrid song thatconnected with my current harder-edged style, but also leans into the vocal stuff Ilove in music. I needed something big that fits a Hardwell set and needed to find atrack that would have all the right emotions, the right chords, and the perfectbalance in arrangement to fit what I was after. So, this collaboration was focused on doing that and I’m so, so happy with the final outcome. I think the three of us crushed it.
PD: You recently completed an exciting North American tour with a stop at The Brooklyn Mirage, and have performed at some of the world’s biggest events like Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, EDC, and sold-out Madison Square Garden…what’s your favorite part about performing your music live?
H: It’s almost an indescribable feeling to be on stage. The connection with the crowd, playing music you love and sharing new/old tracks you’ve poured lots of time into creating to then have the crowd dance or sing them back to you. It’s such a surreal experience and such an amazing buzz to share it with the fans.
PD: You closed your 2022 REBELS NEVER DIE era with a deluxe edition followed by several new singles in 2023 like remixing David Guetta’s version of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction”, and a run of original singles like‘Take Me Away’, ‘Balança’, ‘Twisted’, and ‘Sloopkogel’. What is it like dropping all these projects over varying genres? Do you have a favorite right now?
H: It’s exciting because its exactly what I wanted, which is to be completely free ofany pressure to make a certain type of sound. I want to just explore whatever stylefits me at the time, whether it’s techno, electro, trance, big room, or whatever. Ican’t say I have an out-and-out favourite, because every song is special in its ownway. But I’m super proud of my recent song ‘ACID’ with Maddix and Luciana, simplybecause I had the idea of making an acid song for so long, but I wanted to make itan acid crossover song. There’s a lot of acid underground songs but I needed an acid song that had the right balance of a techno song and an EDM song to work in a Hardwell show, and I wanted it to have a vocal, so it had more of a crossover appeal
PD: What’s next for you this year? Any upcoming music or perhaps an album?
H: There’s no new album planned. I said to myself right after REBELS NEVER DIE was completed, that I wanted to go and have some fun collaborating with otherartists I’d admire. The album was a big solo project, so it felt like a nice change todo a bunch of collaborations and originals. I’ve got a ton of new music coming up,like the next track ‘ANYBODY OUT THERE’ which I mentioned. So it’s definitely goingto be a busy year both in the studio and on the road with a summer full of festivalsplanned..

Bizarre Reddit sex confession spikes Hudson Mohawke’s “Cbat” on the charts
There’s no manual to achieving a chart topping hit—but having your music be the subject of an embarrassing sex confession may be one of the most absurd paths possible.
On the “Today I Fucked Up” subreddit, a Redditor confessed to the world that Hudson Mohawke’s track “Cbat” had been a staple of his love-making playlist for years, standing the test of time through multiple relationships. The quirky rhythm wasn’t quite a hit with his current girlfriend, however, which ultimately put a wedge in their relationship.
The confession, which went viral on Twitter and TikTok, simultaneously landed “Cbat” in the #1 spot on the U.S. iTunes Electronic chart—over a decade after its release.
Steve Aoki is heading to the moon
Steve Aoki can always be counted on to take dance music to new heights. In December, the superstar DJ was revealed as one of eight people selected by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa to join him on an upcoming commercial space flight around the moon, the world’s first-ever civilian lunar orbital mission.
The trip, dubbed “Dear Moon” and organized by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is planned for 2023.

Music producer makes drum & bass track with a dildo
When a sex toy manufacturer reached out to Vancouver-based DJ electronic music producer Koji Aiken on Instagram to promote one of their products, his request was simply that they send “the loudest vibrator” they had available.
Harnessing the mighty power of the “Bendie Power Stud Curvy Vibe,” Aiken hit the studio and recorded the dildo’s various vibration patterns. He then sampled them to produce a song, the end result of which is a hysterical drum & bass record no one saw coming.
Limewire returns as an NFT marketplace
Over 12 years after closing shop, LimeWire returned in an attempt to reckon with its controversial past—and forge a new chapter.
The go-to peer-to-peer file sharing service that dominated the early 2000s came to an unceremonious end when lawsuits initiated by major record labels and music rights-holders resulted in a staggering $105 million in fines.
This year, LimeWire’s new management saw a new vision for the brand: as an NFT marketplace. Australian entrepreneurs Paul and Julian Zehetmayr hope to use the brand’s piracy-era brand recognition to attract new users while also actually getting artists paid this time around.
Fred again.. and Four Tet take over a food truck
When Fred again.. and Four Tet came to town, there was more heat than just that of the sizzling waffle irons emitting from a nearby food truck outside New York’s Terminal 5.
Following their regularly scheduled set, Fred and Tet went outside and promptly took over the vehicle’s aux. As fans gathered ’round, the artists played one last crowd pleaser, Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The U.S.A.,” before making a speedy exit.
The DJ has been revealed as one of eight people selected by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa to join him on a commercial space flight around the moon. The trip, organized by Elon Musk’s SpaceX and dubbed “Dear Moon,” is planned for 2023.
“Life is crazy,” Aoki said in a clip recorded to capture his reaction to the news. “I’m going to go to the… moon!”
According to Maezawa, a “space enthusiast” and online fashion retail mogul, the project marks the world’s first-ever civilian lunar orbital mission. He’ll be footing the bill for the 10 people he picked—including two backup crew members—who were reportedly selected from a pool of 1 million applicants. At the time of writing, Maezawa has a net worth of $1.7 billion, per Forbes.

The “Dear Moon” crew will operate a reusable launch vehicle developed by SpaceX, The Washington Postreports. The ship will fly around the moon—but will not land directly on it—before returning to Earth. The expedition is expected to last just under six days.
Another high-profile musician joining Maezawa on SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft is Choi Seung Hyun, the K-pop superstar from the boy band BIGBANG, better known as T.O.P.
You can check out the “Dear Moon” schedule and flight plan here.
TOKYO — Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa said Friday that K-Pop star T.O.P. will be among the eight people who will join him on a flyby around the moon on a SpaceX spaceship next year.
The Japanese tycoon launched plans for the lunar voyage in 2018, buying all the seats on the spaceship. He began taking applications from around the world in March 2021 for what will be his second space journey after his 12-day trip to the International Space Station on the Soyuz Russian spaceship last year.
The eight people Maezawa selected for his “dearMoon project” are T.O.P., who debuted as a lead rapper for the K-Pop group Big Bang; American DJ Steve Aoki; filmmaker Brendan Hall and YouTuber Tim Dodd, also of the United States. The other four are British photographer Karim Illiya, Indian actor Dev Joshi, Czech artist Yemi AD and Irish photographer Rhiannon Adam. American Olympic snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington and Japanese dancer Miyu were chosen as backups.
T.O.P.’s real name is Choi Seung-hyun. The 35-year-old started out as an underground rapper before joining Big Bang, one of the world’s top boy bands, in 2006.
T.O.P. said in a video released by the dearMoon website that he has always fantasized about space and the moon since he was a child and, “I cannot wait.”
“When I finally see the moon closer I look forward to my personal growth and returning to the earth as an artist with an inspiration,” he said.
Maezawa made the announcement on his Twitter and the dearMoon Project website on Friday, after he tweeted last week saying he held an online meeting with Elon Musk and that his “major announcement about space” was underway.
He and the others would be among the first to travel on the SpaceX vehicle. The trip is expected to take about a week. The spaceship will not make a lunar landing but is expected to come within 200 kilometers (120 miles) of the moon’s surface while circling it for three days.
The trip is expected next year, though the exact schedule has not been disclosed.
Last year, Maezawa, 47, and his producer Yozo Hirano became the first self-paying tourists to visit the space station since 2009. He has not disclosed the cost for that mission, though reports said he paid $80 million.
Maezawa made his fortune in retail fashion, launching Japan’s largest online fashion mall, Zozotown. In 2019, he resigned as CEO of the e-commerce company Zozo Inc. to devote his time to space travel. Forbes magazine estimates his wealth at $1.9 billion.

Gioli and Assia are making sure the world knows women have a place in dance music. No longer do we live in a world in which the music industry is a boys only club. In fact, there doesn’t have to be a man involved at all.
Both Gioli & Assia kickstarted their careers uploading videos to YouTube where they automatically began building their separate personal brands. By 2015, the two met through the platform and discovered that their sounds not only combined beautifully, but they also worked together seamlessly as singers, songwriters, DJs, and producers.
Gioli & Assia signed with Ultra Records, who represent juggernaut performers including SOFFI TUKKER, Steve Aoki, Benny Benassi, and more iconic DJs. With Ultra Records experience in the field, the two are able to create beautiful, genre-bending music that combines several different sounds in one song. Their revolutionary producing and writing skills make them a rare force.
They value visuals equally as much as lyrics and sound when it comes to their music videos. They’ve shot in some of the most beautiful places in the world, as their music video for their new single, Playing Chess, can attest.
Recently, the duo found success performing on internet series #DIesisLive, where they gained instant traction. Their videos garnered millions of views, and suddenly and unsurprisingly, the world loved Gioli & Assia.
The pair are looking forward to kicking off their headline show at NOVO in Los Angeles today, with another headline show at the Brooklyn Mirage on September 17. Beyond that, you’re able to catch them at the Life is Beautiful Festival, ARC, or Portola.
Their new album, Fire, Hell And Holy Water is out today with an exclusive interview for Popdust.
What are the main experiences you both wrote about for this album? Are they things that happened to both of you together, or do you like to write about separate experiences to form one song?
We usually write a lot about our life experiences, our relationship, our fights and love. In “Bittersweet Love” we wrote:
A bittersweet love that never fades, I never faked with you
After all the troubles that we both made, our home is still made for two.
We’ve lived and worked together for more than 7 years now, so it’s natural to have some arguments, but the concept behind this song is that we will always come back to each other, no matter what. Our home will always be made for the two of us.
Besides our relationship, we also write about sadness, family loss, and fear of death.
“Meaning of Life” was born after the death of Assia’s cousin because of cancer.
We were both sitting on the sofa, thinking about how life can give you everything and then can easily take it back from you. We were wondering about the meaning behind all of this, and that’s how we started the lyrics.
Fire, Hell and Holy Water is your biggest body of work to date. Did you know it was going to have this many tracks?
We didn’t know how many tracks we wanted on the album, but we knew we wanted it to be long enough to tell a full story. We were continuing to produce more and more tracks until the moment in which we both knew it was finally complete.
Gioli (left) and Assia (right)
You film your videos in some of the most beautiful spots around the world. How do the locations relate to the songs you’re singing?
There’s always been a connection between the songs and the location of each Diesis Live.
For example the second Episode was shot on top of the Aeolian Volcano island, and the song “Inside Your Head” was composed already thinking about how the power of the volcano should have been expressed in the track’s drop.
What are some of the ways you’ve seen misogyny in the industry and how are you working to change those notions?
The main cases of misogyny presented themselves in the form of skepticism. When a woman claims to be a writer, producer, live performer, editor, and producer of music videos, often her male colleagues find it hard to believe her, believing that there is always a male figure behind to move the ranks. However this can be fought as they show more and more how completely professional, competent and independent women are in the industry.
What is your favorite song on the album? What about that song stands out from the rest to you?
It’s very difficult to choose, but we definitely have our top 3: “Meaning Of Life”,“Eurydice”, and
“Even If The Time Will Pass By.”
These three songs hide within their lyrics the main concept that gives life to the album: Hell, which is depicted as a metaphor for depression. We are both fascinated by Greek mythology, which is why we are very attached to the Eurydice lyrics.
Gioli (left) and Assia (right)
This album has a great sound with equally impressive beats. What was the most rewarding part about creating it?
The most rewarding part was succeeding in our intent to create something we were so in love with and proud of. It often happens lately that artists follow musical trends, and therefore lose their uniqueness, often also losing love for the tracks they produce. We are number one fans of this album! We listened to it for months in our car, and it thrilled us more and more, so this is definitely the most rewarding part. Also seeing our fans singing the songs, dancing and being involved with our lyrics makes us even more proud.
