  • Complaints pour in over ‘ridiculous’ Deal or No Deal episode: ‘Play the game!’

Deal or No Deal’s new series returned to ITV yesterday (October 27), and already, viewers have a lot to say.

The hit game show, which is hosted by Stephen Mulhern, saw model and footballer Jamie take home £4,150 after accepting the banker’s offer. However, at the end of his game, he had £10k in his box the whole time.

Today (October 28), Paula became the show’s latest player to attempt to win a life-changing amount of money. Even though its format has remained the same, complaints seemed to pour in over the episode being dominated by “inane chat”.

Why do we always have to listen to contestants saying they know it’s a blue/red or it’s the highest prize #DealOrNoDeal ??? Stfu #fgs it’s a game of random decisions. Clowns,” a fourth said.

“If Paula talks anymore, the game will be over FFS, quit talking and play the [bleep]ing game,” a fifth viewer insisted.

In the end, Paula said “deal” on the banker’s offer of £4.5k. In her box, which was number three, however, she had £10k the whole time.

  • Why Stephen Mulhern refused to replace Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity

Why Stephen Mulhern refused to replace Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity

Stephen Mulhern has shared the reason he didn’t replace Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity.

Ant and best mate Dec have been at the helm of the ITV show right from the very start. In 2018 though, Ant pulled out to focus on his health and head to rehab. As a result, Holly Willoughby was brought in to fill in for Ant, alongside Dec.

But it turns out Stephen Mulhern was the hot favourite to replace Ant on I’m A Celeb. However, according to Stephen, he didn’t want the gig, insisting the show “couldn’t have gone” with another man to co-host with Dec.

When Ant had to step away from I’m A Celeb hosting duties, speciation was rife as to why could fill in for him. The gig went to Holly – despite Stephen Mulhern at the time being tipped to take the role.

But during an interview from 2019, Stephen shared how never could have hosted the ITV show. According to Stephen, he claimed bosses simply “couldn’t have gone with another guy”.

Stephen Mulhern says Holly was ‘best choice’ for I’m A Celeb

Speaking about Holly presenting on I’m A Celeb, Stephen told The Sun: “It was the best possible choice, you couldn’t have gone with another guy.”

It had to be a female host and Holly was perfect.

Stephen, who is on screens on Saturday (May 4) for ITV’s In For a Penny, added: “It had to be a female host and Holly was perfect. Holly and Dec worked a treat.”

What’s more, around the same time, Stephen stepped in to co-host Saturday Night Takeaway with Dec. And while fans loved the Dec and Stephen partnership, for Stephen there is no way he could replace Ant.

Stephen added to the publication: “When we were in Florida for Takeaway last year there was talk about me doing a lot more stuff on the show. But you can’t replace Ant. I’m not going to step into a friend’s shoes. I couldn’t do as well as him and I’m just pleased he’s back.”

Stephen Mulhern on Ant and Dec

Stephen has previously praised Ant and Dec and the friendship he shares with the Geordie lads. And if Stephen needs any support, Ant and Dec are more than happy to help.

Speaking to OK!, he gushed over his friendship with the boys recently. He said: “Ant and Dec and I have known each other for 26 years.” Reminiscing on the past, Stephen went on: “I was doing CITV and they were doing SM: TV Live and we would cross over and do things together but also, where I live, I can walk to the boy’s houses in five minutes.”

He then added: “Our friendship off-screen is just as wonderful as on-screen, we support each other, we’re there for each other.”

In For A Penny airs on Saturday (May 4) from 6:00pm on ITV.

  • Stephen Mulhern on “unbelievable” comment from late Queen during Buckingham Palace visit: “I thought, I’ll take that!”

Stephen Mulhern on “unbelievable” comment from late Queen during Buckingham Palace visit: “I thought, I’ll take that!”

Catchphrase favourite Stephen Mulhern was left with his jaw on the floor over an “unbelievable” comment the late Queen made about him.

The presenter shot to fame in the 1990s and since then he’s not stopped. So it’s no surprise to hear that he’s rubbed shoulders with plenty of famous faces – including the late Queen.

But it turns out she once left him stunned after a comment she made at Buckingham Palace when Stephen was invited there.

Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern on meeting The Queen

From hosting Catchphrase for a decade to becoming the new presenter on Dancing On Ice, Stephen has become a firm favourite with viewers over the years.

So much so, that he was once invited to Buckingham Palace. It’s something he dubbed “one of the most amazing things that ever happened to me”. At the palace he met Queen Elizabeth. And she was quick to issue a five-word comment about him.

Stephen Mulhern stunned at Queen’s comment

Speaking to The Mirror in 2015, Stephen shared: “One of the most amazing things that ever happened to me was when I was invited to Buckingham Palace with a load of other performers, such as Bob Geldof and Cilla Black.”

But she said: ‘You’re an amusing young man,’ and I thought, I’ll take that.

He added: “The Queen was there, milling about, and she came over to me. To this day, I still don’t believe she knew who I was. But she said: ‘You’re an amusing young man,’ and I thought, I’ll take that.”

    Stephen Mulhern on TV

In the last decade or so, Stephen has become a telly fixture, so it’s no wonder the Queen knew who he was.

He’s been a lynchpin for the likes of Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician and Text Santa. As well as Rolling In It and the National Lottery.

Stephen has also thrived in pivotal roles on In For a Penny and the relaunched Deal or No Deal, arguably his biggest positions with Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice.

It seems his star can only ever shine brighter. But back in 2021, Stephen suggested he’s more than happy to cast as support to telly kings Ant and Dec.

He reflected: “Somebody said: ‘You’re like the and in Ant and Dec.’ But my dad said: ‘You’re the Des O’Connor.’ Because when Morecambe and Wise were at the height of their fame, Des was the fall guy.”

  • Dancing On Ice in ‘harsh’ double elimination as Lou Sanders and Roxy Shahidi exit: ‘What a brutal way to go out’

Dancing On Ice in ‘harsh’ double elimination as Lou Sanders and Roxy Shahidi exit: ‘What a brutal way to go out’

Dancing On Ice tonight (February 11) culminated in a double eviction, with hosts Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern waving goodbye to not one but two skating stars.

It was an eventful night, with new judge Johnny Weir replacing Ashley Banjo on the Ice Panel. Elsewhere, Ryan Thomas hit the ice not once but twice, promoting Holly to ask: “Are you hurt?”

At the end of the show, it was revealed that the lowest-scoring couple – after the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes were combined – would be going straight home. Then, the next two lowest couples would be forced to endure the skate-off.

So this meant two couples left Dancing On Ice

Who left Dancing On Ice tonight?

Going straight home tonight was Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi and her skating partner Sylvain Longchambon. Holly asked her: “Roxy darling, would you come over here? I’m so so sorry, it’s such a brutal way to go out.” “It is brutal,” she said. “I was looking forward to doing my save me skate.” “I’m so sorry,” said Holly.

Next, Lou Sanders and Ricky Norwood were forced to endure the dreaded skate-off.

Then, after the celebs had done all they could do, it was time for the Ice Panel to cast their votes.

Johnny Weir decided to save Ricky. Oti Mabuse decided to save Ricky. Next up it was time for Torvill and Dean. Jane sent home Lou, while Chris decided to eliminate Lou.

    Viewers react

Dancing On Ice fans watching at home were quick to react to the double elimination.

Many said it was “harsh” that Roxy didn’t get the chance to skate-off. Others said that Lou was “robbed”. “Nah I’m gutted for Lou,” said one. “Poor Roxy, what a brutal way to go out,” said another. “I’m not happy,” said another. “Justice for Lou!” bellowed another.

“I’m tired of the women getting screwed over on this show,” said another, echoing the thoughts of many others as they noted that there’s a lot more male celebrities left on the show than women. Another added: “Two women left and five men.”

A third commented: “It doesn’t really promote the sport to women does it when they’re constantly under marked, told that it’s more impressive when a man skates and then gets voted out first.” “They’ve now sent four women home in a row,” said another.

Stephen Mulhern is hosting Dancing On Ice this series alongside Holly Willoughby, and viewers have already delivered their verdict.

She then introduced Stephen, adding: “Can we just say a huge welcome to Stephen Mulhern everybody!”

And a huge welcome is exactly what Stephen got over on X – formerly known as Twitter.

Someone else added: “Watching #DancingOnIce and god is Mulhern overdoing it. Shut up Stephen! Let Holly speak.”

  • Stephen Mulhern signs on as new Dancing On Ice host as ITV 'tries to convince' Holly Willoughby to stay

Stephen Mulhern signs on as new Dancing On Ice host as ITV 'tries to convince' Holly Willoughby to stay

TV presenter Stephen Mulhern has officially signed on as the new Dancing On Ice presenter for next year, it has been revealed. ITV bosses hope that Stephen will join current host Holly Willoughby, who has yet to confirm her return.

The Sun newspaper ‘confirmed’ that bosses have officially picked Stephen to replace disgraced former host Phillip Schofield.

Stephen Mulhern signs up to host Dancing On Ice

A TV insider told The Sun: “Stephen has been the frontrunner to take Phillip’s spot for months but ITV is thrilled to now have him signed and sealed and ready to roll. It means that, whatever happens, they have at least one host for the skate show.”

ITV bosses reportedly hope that Deal Or No Deal host Stephen’s presence will be what it takes for Holly to return to the show.

“Stephen is hugely loved by viewers, is a consummate professional and as an added bonus has worked with Holly for decades – they both started out in telly together,” the tabloid’s source continued.

“Knowing Stephen will be there beside her could be the comfort blanket Holly needs to say yes,” the insider said.

Stephen previously stood in for Phillip in 2022, when the then-Dancing On Ice presenter tested positive for COVID. Going back further, he and Holly both worked together on the children’s entertainment show Ministry Of Mayhem, where they quickly rose to fame as household names.

Holly has taken her leave of the spotlight since her sudden exit from This Morning earlier this year. Telly bosses and viewers alike have been on tenterhooks, wondering whether she would return to Dancing On Ice.

Holly Willoughby seen out and about for the first time following This Morning exit

This follows an increasingly rare public sighting earlier this week. We reported yesterday that Holly had been spotted on Thursday (December 21), looking decidedly chipper.

Pictures obtained by MailOnline showed the presenter out for a walk in South West London.

Holly wore a red jumpsuit and gold heels, paired with a long camel coat. She then reportedly joined her family for a Christmas lunch.

It’s claimed mum Linda, husband Dan Baldwin and a group of friends joined in on the celebrations too. Holly was seen leaving the venue and later walked down the road to a waiting car.

  • Stephen Mulhern “confirmed to host Dancing On Ice” as bosses “try to convince” Holly Willoughby to return

Stephen Mulhern “confirmed to host Dancing On Ice” as bosses “try to convince” Holly Willoughby to return

The 2024 series of Dancing On Ice is due to start in a month and Stephen Mulhern is said to have been ‘confirmed’ as the new host.

The popular Deal or No Deal presenter has been linked with the presenting vacancy that opened up following Phillip Schofield’s departure from ITV for several weeks.

Telly fave Stephen, however, is not expected to front the upcoming series in January on his own.

Furthermore, it’s been claimed DOI bosses are keen on having Holly Willoughby make a telly comeback for the next series, scheduled for January.

Holly left This Morning herself in October – but her future on ITV’s skating reality series has not been confirmed.

Stephen Mulhern previously filled in for Phillp Schofield alongside Holly Willoughby on Dancing On Ice (Credit: ITV)

Stephen Mulhern joins Dancing On Ice 2024?

The Mail reckons Stephen signing up for DOI is a done deal. Last month Stephen, 46, admitted he was in talks for a role on the show.

He insisted at the time “nothing has been agreed”. But Stephen went on: “Would I do it? Do you know something, I think it’d be silly not to do it. But nothing has been fully agreed.”

Now, however, the paper quotes a source as claiming Stephen is on board – but Holly hasn’t yet agreed “formally”.

    ‘Exactly what the series needs’

A source is said to have told MailOnline: “Bosses hope that they can convince her to come back to work in the New Year because they feel that the relationship between her and Stephen is exactly what the series needs.

“The channel is being careful not to put pressure on her decision, although they’re hoping that renegotiating her contract will help to close the deal.

“Time is running out now given photoshoots need to happen. Plus it won’t be long until the show needs to start promoting the new series.”

ED! has approached representatives for Stephen Mulhern, Dancing On Ice and Holly Willoughby for comment on MailOnline’s story.
