  • Man dies after being tased by Springfield officer during chase, family says

    The man who was tased by a Springfield police officer has died.

    Patrick Foley died on Friday, the Foley Family said in a statement.

    “Our beloved son, Patrick Foley, passed away yesterday, Friday, September 19, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. We are heartbroken and ask for privacy as we grieve. Going forward, all communication will be handled through our attorney, P.J. Conboy of PG Law LLC.”

    As previously reported on News Center 7, the incident happened along S. Isabella Street after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

    News Center 7 crews spoke with family and friends of the man, who identified him as Patrick Foley.

    A City of Springfield spokesperson said officers tried to stop a truck for speeding, but the driver kept going.

    Body camera footage shows the man hopping over a fence and running down an alley. It shows the officer using this taser.

    The man fell face-first to the gravel path, and his face started bleeding profusely.

    News Center 7 blurred most of the body camera footage due to the graphic content.

    The initial body camera footage didn’t have audio, but the second officer’s body camera did.

    The other officer is heard asking about getting gauze for this face.

    “Hold on, hold on, hold on,” the officer said. “We’re getting you something, okay. Just keep your face down, okay.”

    The body camera video shows officers using a towel to clean Foley’s face as they call for a medic.

    The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) confirmed Springfield Police asked them to investigate “an officer-involved critical incident.” That investigation is ongoing, and a BCI spokesperson confirmed they don’t identify uncharged suspects.

    U.S. Marshals arrest 60 fugitives across Mass. in operation that targeted ‘worst of the worst’

    Fugitives wanted for homicide, aggravated sex and assault offenses, firearms violations, narcotics trafficking, kidnapping, and robbery were among 60 people recently arrested across Massachusetts in a U.S. Marshals Service operation that targeted the “worst of the worst,” law enforcement officials announced Thursday.

    Federal agents, with the help of state and local police, executed “No Safe Harbor” from Aug. 25 to Sept. 17, an operation aimed at reducing crime in the Bay State by targeting violent offenders, unregistered sex offenders, and critically endangered missing children, according to Acting U.S. Marshal Kevin W. Neal.

    “We hunted down the worst of the worst – murderers, rapists, and child molesters – and as a result, communities across Massachusetts are safer,” Neal said in a statement.

    According to Neal, some of the more notable arrests included:

    • A fugitive in Canton who was wanted by Boston police for homicide and a firearm violation, with two prior violent/drug crimes. In May 2025, the victim was found shot to death in Dorchester.

    • A fugitive in Springfield who was wanted by Springfield police for assault to murder with a firearm and drug distribution. During the arrest, a 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number and seven bags of heroin were recovered.

    • A fugitive in Boston who was wanted in Maryland for forcibly raping his victim while strangling her.

    • A fugitive in Littleton who was wanted in North Carolina for indecent liberties with a minor while being a guardian to the child.

    Additionally, a 15-year-old girl reported missing by North Andover police was recovered in Hooksett, New Hampshire, Neal added. The child was found in the company of a 40-year-old adult man, both living inside a van.

    The man, identified as Christopher Rodriguez, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child.

    Neal said that the state police and police in Boston, Haverhill, Fitchburg, Holyoke, Leominster, Lynn, and Springfield all played a role in the operation.

    Springfield police warns drivers of “potential” funeral scam

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield Police are warning people about a “potential scam.”

    Officers contacted several people wearing traffic vests at a busy intersection in Springfield, asking for donations for a teenager’s funeral. Springfield police say it violates city ordinances. Police say the panhandlers even walked into traffic to get money wearing bright vests. Police say they are seeing this in other nearby cities too.

    “These people were just being more aggressive and getting up all in your face and everything,” said Connie Pugh, a driver who witnessed it. “They were asking for a funeral for a 15-year-old child.”

    Officers received calls about the group. Pugh says she knew they weren’t from the area because panhandling like this violates a city ordinance. A similar group was spotted in Buffalo, Missouri. The sign had a different name for the teen’s funeral.

    Buffalo police also sent out a warning about this group.

    ”There was this picture of this woman, and look like the same woman I had seen down on Sunshine and West Bypass,” said Pugh. “When you got people that are walking the intersections impeding traffic really, then you know that is dangerous for everybody.”

    Drivers spotted the same people along Glenstone and Sunshine. And SPD says intersections along Kearney as well.

    ”It’s a violation of our city ordinance, and for whatever reason that they are giving. It may not be a legitimate purpose,” said Lt. Steve Schwind, Springfield Police. “It’s not only a violation for the pedestrian to approach vehicles to solicit money and take any type of donations from the roadway, but it’s also a violation of the ordinance for the motorists to stop and give money to the pedestrian.”

    Pugh says panhandling in Springfield is getting out of hand and hopes the city starts cracking down on the problem.

    ”If that is a scam that they were doing over the weekend, I hope these people get caught,” said Pugh.
