Body chains are back, as are belts that are more decorative than they are functional, shoulder-grazing earrings, and layers of beads and chains. For those who aren’t ready for this type of aesthetic comeback, there are other jewelry trends gaining steam, including floral chokers (resembling 2024’s popular blossom bags) and anklets. Below, we’ve rounded up the biggest and the best 2024 jewelry trends that’ll have you shining stylishly bright.

    Three-dimensional florals will be in full bloom across the spring/summer 2024 fashion landscape with designers replacing patterns of petals with more dramatic takes on the motif. In the accessories department, there were floral headpieces, not-your-grandmother’s brooches and chokers at Chanel and rosettes of all kinds including necklaces, earrings, and belts at Simone Rocha and Blumarine. 

    Jewelry Trend 2024: Anklets

    With lots of high-fashion ankle activity happening thanks to designers such as Paco Rabanne and Miu Miu, there’s one shoe-adjacent jewelry trend in the mix that will be easy to incorporate into your 2024 accessories lineup: the humble anklet. Opt for something sleek and simple like Fendi’s gold, tubular styles, or glam things up with a pearly take on the trend, à la Simone Rocha.  

    Jewelry Trend 2024: Oceanic Influence

    In addition to the pops of oceanic blue favored by Bottega Veneta, Versace, and Ferragamo, designers like Collina Strada and Schiaparelli went diving deep for accessories inspiration. This resulted in chokers and large pendants made to look like starfish, lobsters, crabs, and other sea creatures. But if a giant necklace featuring a fish carcass is not for you, you can still dabble in the trend with significantly smaller charms and studs that pay homage to the ocean. 

    Jewelry Trend 2024: Super Sized

    If a giant fish carcass necklace is for you — or at least large accessories of an equally dramatic nature — expect to have fun leaning into all things oversized when it comes to 2024 jewelry trends. According to Pinterest’s annual trend prediction report, big, sculptural jewelry and “larger-than-life accessories” will be top of mind this year.

    The year 2024 will be all about bows. While a number of girly fashion trends have been gaining popularity in recent seasons, this particular adornment has been spotted everywhere from the runway (Balmain and Sandy Liang) to the red carpet (Olivia Rodrigo and Sydney Sweeney). Whether it’s a necklace, a hair clip, or a bracelet, tie up your favorite piece of jewelry with a ribbon for a very on-trend look.

    At The Attico, it was the necklaces. At Armarium and Valentino, it was the earrings. At Tory Burch, it was the bangles (with earrings getting an honorable mention, too). Big, beautiful silver jewelry had a major moment across the SS24 collections, and we expect to see more of the heavy metal popping up in the months ahead. 

    Jewelry Trend 2024: Layered Necklaces

    According to Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Burberry, more is more when it comes to decorating the décolletage. Top designers are layering necklaces like it’s peak festival season, so we’re looking forward to a year’s worth of that kind of fashion fun in 2024. Get the look by pairing necklaces of varying thickness and lengths, and don’t be afraid to mix metals or add in something beaded (also a popular material on the SS24 runways). 

    Jewelry Trend 2024: Standout Earring

    No, that wasn’t a typo. A singular statement earring was embraced by the likes of Valentino, Prabal Gurung, and Gucci. But if wearing just one eye-catching piece will leave your face feeling half naked, try an asymmetrical pair as was done at Etro and Erdem instead for the same unique appeal but with no lobe left behind.

I’m starting with my favorite topic of all: shoes.

    If we’re being honest, most color trends are fleeting, but occasionally, one manages to break out of the cycle and become a “neutral” hue in its own right—red has done just that. Since last spring, we’ve seen various shades of red surface on the runways, but it wasn’t until we began researching for this story that we were fully convinced this color is here to stay. While we didn’t see one singular shade of red reign supreme, two noteworthy variations were found across the fall/winter 2023 and spring/summer 2024 collections: crimson and cherry red. With the former, we saw the highly saturated red play a bigger part in fall collections, but it did carry over into spring too! Designers often used crimson to make typical silhouettes feel sultrier. That aim was on full display at Stella McCartney in a double-breasted coat and matching slip skirt that came in crimson red. At Tory Burch, we saw how a longline wrap coat becomes fiery when fashioned from a crimson material. And then there was Ferragamo’s fall collection, which featured suits, knits, and coats in the brightest possible version of crimson.

    If the fall collections were all about using this shade of red to dial up the heat, then spring was all about bringing it to a subdued simmer, which is apparent in the broad adoption of cherry red. Designers took this decadent shade of red and dialed up the ante by using it for “luxurious” items. For example, in Sabato De Sarno’s debut show for Gucci, leather goods like bags, moto jackets, midi skirts, and pumps all came in cherry red. Similarly, a Versace skirt suit came in drool-worthy cherry-red leather. Although the shades differ in vibrancy, they’re both a reminder that any color can be neutral if you’re willing to commit.

    Everywhere we look, the ’80s are having a renaissance. From bold maximalist earrings and chunky bangles to nipped-waist blazers and structured tweed jackets, it’s hard to outrun the decade’s excess aesthetic right now. And while some items have been more readily accepted by the masses, others are still considered shocking news in 2023.

    Once such pot-stirring style is bubble hems, and I’m sorry to say it, but they too are about to make a major comeback. We saw the first inklings of their return in the 2023 collections with several bubble-hem skirts and dresses from Khaite and Prada, but for spring 2024, designers went full-force on the voluminous silhouettes, so consider this your official warning: No matter your personal feelings on them, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of the balloon-like shapes at the turn of the year.

    I don’t blame you if you associate the floofy shapes with an awkward middle-school dance or the wardrobe in 13 Going on 30, but I can assure you that the styles coming down the pipeline are much more sophisticated than they are retro. At Schiaparelli and Altuzarra, two-piece skirt sets were given the puffed-up treatment for maximum drama, but at Bally and Bottega Veneta, bubble hems came in the form of softer draping on dresses and skirts. Personally, I love the look of a bubble hem on a minidress with tights and heels for a holiday ensemble, but regardless, I’m sharing all the runway and influencer imagery of the trend so you can see for yourself.

    Just as the bright-red color trend is reaching its peak, designers are already conspiring on its successor. Don’t get me wrong—I don’t see the red trend going anywhere anytime soon. I’ve personally invested in it myself, but this past fashion month, designers posed a united front on a new It color that feels like a fresh evolution of the red theme that we’re seeing play out on the street style scene. Meet the shade we’re calling black cherry, a deep red that ranges from burgundy to oxblood and is just oozing with an aura of wealth, status, and power.

    We spotted the new It color all across the spring/summer 2024 collections at brands such as Gucci, Tom Ford, and Hermès, the latter of which showed a runway positively drenched in burgundy. For Sabato De Sarno’s debut collection at Gucci, the creative director notably made Gucci Rosso a color central to both the runway looks and new branding for the fashion house. It was spotted on trams running through Milan, on Instagram posts, and on billboards. 

    Burgundy is a color that represents power and ambition, and we expect nothing less when wearing the hue next spring.

    The buzzword from the fall/winter 2023 collections was “wearability” as brands showcased clothes meant to be worn and lived in, and items as simple as tank tops and hoodies got the designer treatment. In large part, the pendulum swung even further in that direction during fashion month for the spring/summer 2024 season, as designers focused on clothes that reflect our modern lives and what women actually want to wear. This time around, the pieces felt a bit more grown up and a bit more elevated, albeit just as essential. Yes, designers are thinking about what will sell, but they are also considering what is truly worthy of a spot in our closets.

    We’re seeing this unfold in a few ways. First, designers are taking the current leading trends to a new place. The fiery red dominating for fall was replaced with a more accessible shade of oxblood. Sheer outfits veered away from the “naked” aesthetic and took a modest, approachable direction. We also saw this play out with looks that are built around where our real-life days take us and how we’re dressing for them. Traditional clothing shapes were tweaked with cool, modern updates, while big, overstuffed bags echo the realities of busy days.

    This doesn’t mean that directional trends for the adventurous dresser weren’t present, though. Hot pants were at the center of the co-ord sets that are all but guaranteed to take over for spring. The not-too-short, not-too-long bottoms made a surprising comeback during New York Fashion Week, with appearances at Tory Burch, Phillip Lim, Mirror Palais, and Sandy Liang. Already, we’ve gotten a glimpse at the style’s first celebrity endorsement. 

    This week, Bella Hadid was spotted on a helipad in Manhattan after arriving in the city alongside her brother Anwar. For the trip, she chose an oversize button-down shirt, a white tank top, satin Miu Miu ballet flats, and *the* trend of the spring/summer 2024 runway season, a pair of white capri pants. On the accessory front, she added a burgundy satchel, a Y2K headband, and thin hoop earrings.

    In an industry where more and more people are finding themselves feeling excluded or dismayed by major runway players, Seoul Fashion Week challenged the system. With 30 home-grown designers showing on the calendar this year, the week-long fashion showcase and trade show felt more akin to a community rather than a redundant display of clothing—something this editor feels has gone on for way too long in major cities. 

    This year, Seoul Fashion Week didn’t just feel like a step in a new sartorial direction, but rather, it felt like a bubbling case study in the new wonders of a modern fashion world. Over the last months, Seoul Fashion Week (held September 5 to September 9 for the Spring/Summer 2024 season) has made incremental progress to be taken seriously as the next fashion capital: the appointment of It girl ambassadors New Jeans and the move towards an earlier time-frame have made the Seoul Metropolitan Government—the agency who puts on the festivities— a major player in the fashion landscape.
