Kevin Durant’s 35 Ventures, Blaise Matuidi’s Origins Fund, Dapper Labs Ventures, Position Ventures, Valhalla Ventures, 6th Man Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and Breakout Capital also participated in the round.

    The company previously raised a $3 million seed round from Union Square Ventures, as well as Golden Ventures, Maple VC, Intonation Ventures, and Secocha Ventures.

    “Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand Gen Z sports fans’ desire to connect with their teams and fellow supporters on a deeper, more interactive level,” said Blaise Matuidi, co-founder of Origins Fund and 2018 FIFA World Cup Champion. “Stadium Live is the most relevant way for fans to gather and engage in the sports ecosystem.     Stadium Live emerged on the tech scene with an innovative sports platform, garnering over 500,000 users1 to date. The company is quickly becoming the go-to platform for a new generation of Gen Z sports fans. 

    Traditional sports viewership among Gen Z is on the decline, with Gen Z sports fans increasingly favoring short-form content on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok2. They also increasingly identify themselves as gamers, with 87% of Gen Z playing games on their smartphones weekly, if not daily3. Gen Z is also an early adopter of vertical social networks centered around a specific interest. Vertical communities like Stadium Live are among the fastest-growing social platforms in the world4.

    The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament recently celebrated 64 years of competition with a record-breaking purse and top prize payout. This year, 266 teams and over 1,500 competitors vied for a piece of the impressive $5,858,875 purse, and the winning team was able to stack up a total payout of $3,489,813 – a record only surpassed by one other event in all of billfishing’s tournament history.

    Day 1 of the tournament started off hot, with Captain Neil Sykes of the 72-foot Viking, “MERCENARIA”, and angler Matthew Brown weighing a 572.6-pound blue marlin. Their entry into the Fabulous Fisherman division of the tournament immediately ensured them at least $777,750 for bringing the first blue marlin to the scales weighing over 500 pounds. 

    Teams fish four of six days (captain’s choice) of the tournament and can enter as many of the 11 eligible divisions as they prefer, each with unique payout opportunities. Although seven additional blue marlin were brought to the scales at Big Rock Landing throughout the six-day tournament, none could unseat the 572.6-pound fish weighed by “MERCENARIA” on the first day. The team’s first-place blue marlin along with their Fabulous Fisherman prize added up to winnings of $3,489,813. Other popular billfish tournaments have had larger participant fields and total purses available, but only once has a single participating team won a calcutta of prizes this large. 

    Former NBA and North Carlina basketball superstar Michael Jordan added to the Day 1 excitement, backing into Big Rock Landing in Morehead City aboard his 80-foot Viking yacht, “CATCH 23” and weighing a 24-pound dolphin fish (mahi). Jordan went on to release two blue marlin during the tournament.

    While multi-million-dollar winnings are commonplace in the world of professional sports, fishing tournaments like the Big Rock attract entrants from all walks of life and experience levels, with Lady and Junior angler divisions also offering distinct payouts. In the 64 years of tournament history, fishing for blue marlin off North Carolina has truly evolved from a novel hobby to an epic sporting event rewarding anglers with millions of dollars.

    This year, nearly 1 million listeners from 60 countries tuned in to Big Rock Radio to keep tabs on the action. Big Rock TV also features daily live stream video sessions and racked up over 2 million viewers in 71 countries.

    Through this partnership, U.S. Polo Assn. outfitted the polo players in custom jerseys, provided staff attire as well as branded caps for attendees, social media competitions, and global promotion of the event across various digital platforms. This is the second consecutive year U.S. Polo Assn. has partnered with the British Beach Polo Championships tournament. 

    Now in its 15th year, the British Beach Polo Championships, also known as Sandpolo, is the largest beach polo event in the world. Sandpolo is a unique way to watch and play the sport of polo on the stunning shores of Sandbanks Beach, a prestigious destination known for its luxury properties and pristine sand. A twist on traditional polo, Sandpolo is played with an oversized orange ball designed to be easily seen in the sand but still move at a high speed. 

    In the sold-out Sandbanks Beach Arena, thousands of Sandpolo fans were close enough to the action to see all the fast-paced competition between Team Whispering Angel and Team Singha during the two-day event. In the end, it was Team Whispering Angel (Chris Gregory, Adolfo Casabal & Hazel Jackson) that took the British Beach Championships 2022 title with a 19-11 victory against Team Singha (Garrie Renucci, Ollie Cork & Jimmy Wood).

    BetOnline.ag, one of the world’s largest online sports betting, poker and casino platforms, became the first gaming operator to add ApeCoin to its approved cryptocurrency processing list, the company announced today via the Odds PR agency.

    ApeCoin ($APE) began trading on crypto exchanges Thursday, March 17, after months of hype and speculation behind the ERC-20 token created by Yuga Labs, which is the parent company of the popular NFT project, Bored Ape Yacht Club.

    BetOnline, which publicly announced its entry into the NFT market in February after purchasing Bored Ape #320 for $375,000 during Super Bowl week, was an early adopter of cryptocurrency. The website first began accepting Bitcoin for transactions in 2010.

    “We got in early on Bitcoin because we are confident blockchain is the future of global currency,” BetOnline CEO Eddie Robbins III said. “And now, it’s incredibly exciting to start adding NFTs to our asset vault and be the first in our industry to accept ApeCoin. We’re bullish on the world of Web3, and we’re eager to build and strengthen our partnerships and promotions in this space.”

    Outside of Bitcoin, BetOnline.ag accepts more than a dozen altcoins for deposits and withdrawals on its platform, including Ethereum, Dogecoin, Avalanche, Cardano, Polygon, Solana and USDC.

    ​​​The East Orlando Preds, the nation’s largest AAU Youth Football and Cheer Club, has always been committed to the health, safety, and the positive development of its athletes and families. For that reason, the Preds have made the very difficult decision to not participate in the 2020 Fall football and cheer season due to the negative effects of COVID-19 in its community and the country.

    Since being established in 2013, the East Orlando Preds football and cheer programs have had tremendous success. The Preds football program has captured five FYFCL Super Bowl championships, including back-to-back 14U undefeated championship seasons (2018, 2019), and have played in a total of 10 FYFCL Super Bowls. In 2019, the Preds 14U football team finished 17-0, AAU National Football Champions, and were featured Super Bowl Sunday on Fox News’ Fox & Friends telecast on its South Beach Super Bowl set. Today, more than 15 Preds student-athletes are playing or entering their first year of collegiate athletics, while another 10 high school players have current collegiate sports scholarship offers.

    On the cheer mat, the Preds Cheer Program has dominated youth cheer in the Central Florida region with over 50 first-place finishes, and over 100 second- and third-place finishes over the past six seasons, including being named Grand, Spirit or Arena champion over 25 times. In the past two years, the Preds cheer squads have won three UYFL National Cheer Championships at the 14U and 12U levels.  

    While the Preds love to compete and are committed to excellence on and off the football field and cheer mat, they have always done so with health and safety at the forefront.

    “Unfortunately, COVID-19 is having a devastating and disproportional impact on multi-generational and lower-income households,” says East Orlando Preds President Shawn Seipler. “Cases of diabetes, asthma, obesity, heart disease, and hypertension exist at higher rates in these at-risk communities. Individuals with these underlying conditions have the greatest health risk to COVID-19. With so little information about the long-term impacts of the virus and the number of cases and infection rates rising among younger individuals who can carry the virus, we do not feel it is prudent to have youth football and cheer this fall. We can wait until early 2021, after proven treatments and a potential vaccine are available, to do our part to stop the spread and to keep our families safe.”

    Shawn Seipler, President of the East Orlando Preds and Head Coach of the 14U football team, is also the founder and CEO of Clean the World, a global impact, social enterprise that distributes soap and provides WASH education to at-risk populations across the U.S. and worldwide. Clean the World has been a leading organization distributing soap and hygiene kits globally during the COVID-19 pandemic. Six members of the East Orlando Preds Board of Directors are Clean the World team members, including the reigning Arena Bowl Champion Head Coach Rob Keefe, who serves as the Preds football commissioner.

    “When you see what the NFL, college football and other professional sports leagues are doing around the country right now in an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19 with tremendous resources at their disposal, it just did not feel right for us to proceed this year, knowing we do not have the same resources and medical experts in place to protect our families,” said Head Coach Rob Keefe. “We encourage all youth football and sports organizations to take a hard look at what they are accomplishing right now by attempting to have fall sports. It may be time for us to concentrate on delivering safe classroom education while finding healthy alternatives to mental and physical engagement for our youth that incorporates the necessary precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

    ​The East Orlando Preds, now the proud feeder program to Colonial High School, will be back and will proceed with the 2021 season when things are safe to do so.

    ​Two college freshmen from the George Washington University have launched a platform where college basketball fans can donate on behalf of their team to the front-liners fighting COVID-19. The website is called “Bracket of Hope”, where in the light of the NCAA tournament’s cancellation this year, fans can instead go and donate on behalf of their team on a mock-up bracket, and the team that raises more money moves to the next round. In each match-up, 20% of the money raised by the winner of the round will go back to the school’s scholarship fund, and 10% of the money raised by the team that fell short will also go to their scholarship fund. The rest of the money will go to each respective team’s COVID-19 related charity of choice. The way teams are seeded is predominantly based on how they performed this year, with the exception of a few lower seeds consisting of teams with huge fan-bases but have not met the tournament’s required credentials. 

    Farid Adibi, a co-founder of Bracket of Hope, talks about the purpose behind the project: “In light of the pandemic, we wanted to unite this nation in a fun way all the while fighting COVID-19. We figured that March Madness has always brought people of different walks of life together, and people still want to show their school spirit even though the tournament was canceled. We hope that fans donate money on behalf of their team and show their true colors even in the darkest of situations.”

    Despite limited resources, these two freshmen still managed to bring up the website in a short amount of time in order to receive donations as soon as possible. They are excited about this project and can’t wait for the website to take off.

    “JTB Wheelchair Tennis Global Challenge” is an international competition held in San Diego. Eleven wheelchair tennis athletes have been invited from Japan, Canada, and the United States, all of whom are aspiring Paralympians.

    B-Adaptive Foundation (BAF), a non-profit organization out of Los Angeles, will be hosting the Global Challenge. January 2018 was the inaugural JTB Wheelchair Tennis Global Challenge, and this year’s event will be the second of its kind. The Global Challenge is an excellent opportunity for young athletes to compete against rivals from other countries and to learn from other cultures. Additionally, all athletes competing in the Global Challenge are unaccompanied by parents, creating an environment for independence and self-confidence. For athletes with disabilities, there are many challenges associated with leaving home, and overcoming those challenges can help them grow significantly.

    Marriah Publishing is proud to introduce new children’s book:  Erica from America: Swimming from Europe to Africa, which tells the story of Erica, who, as a child grew up wanting to do everything, and later decided to swim the Strait of Gibraltar. Her friends think she is crazy but Erica is determined (even if a little nervous) and decides she is going to swim from Europe to Africa no matter what. But when she gets to Spain, her plans are interrupted by the winds and another group of swimmers, who befriend her and ask her to swim with them. But ultimately, she and the other swimmers are all set to swim. They reach their goal to swim from Europe to Africa but not without a lot of activity during the swim!

    Erica has written an incredible story for children of all ages (and adults!)…it’s a story of inspiration and perseverance and proves that you can accomplish your dreams if you only believe in yourself and be dedicated to your goals. As a fellow swimmer I was touched by this heart warming story.

    About the author:

    Erica L. Moffett is an award-winning author and she also works as Managing Director at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. When she is not writing or working, she can be found swimming in the pools, rivers, or oceans. Erica from America is her first children’s book and is based on her first big open water swim from Europe to Africa. Subsequently, she has gone on to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, which consists of the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, and the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. She received a B.A. in music from Rhodes College and an M.B.A. from Yale University School of Management and divides her time between New York City and Fort Lauderdale. 

    Erica is an extraordinary person who has an amazing spirit and has been on many adventures which she shares through her writing. She is also working on a memoir about her adoption experiences, a section of which was first published on Woman Around Town (www.womanaroundtown.com) and which can now be seen on her website, www.ericafromamerica.com. She is also hoping to adopt a baby of her own.
